Pastor Joel Osteen: Homosexuality is "a sin"; Elton John is a sinner

Best-selling author and Pastor Joel Osteen, and his wife Victoria Osteen, are the guests on Wednesday's "Piers Morgan Tonight," and the hour-long discussion touches on faith, finances, charity and more.

But one part related to a topic Osteen rarely discusses – sin. Specifically, why homosexuality is a sin, and according to the scriptures, Elton John is a sinner.

"The scriptures shows that it's a sin," said Osteen in the interview. "But you know, I'm not one of those that are out there to bash homosexuals and tell them that they're terrible people and all of that. I mean, there are other sins in the Bible too...I don't believe homosexuality is God's best for a person's life."

Piers Morgan noted Osteen does not usually discuss this, and he admitted in the first interviews in front of the camera "this was all new to me" and "people say I don't talk about sin." As for Elton John, there was this exchange:

MORGAN: Say a friend of mine like Elton John watching this at home, who with his partner – a civil partner, David Furnish – have just had a surrogate child which was born on Christmas day. They're going to be pretty angry what they hear. They're going to think who are you to call them a sinner.

J. OSTEEN: Yes.

MORGAN: But why are they sinners in your eyes?

J. OSTEEN: Well, it's strictly back to what the scripture says. I mean, I can't grab one part and say God wants you to be blessed and live an abundant life, and not grab the other part that says, you know what? You know, live that kind of life. So it comes back to the scripture. I'm not the judge. You know, God didn't tell me to go around judging everybody.

The full interview airs Wednesday, January 26 at 9pmET/PT.

Mr. Morgan you are completely missing Mr. Osteen's point. ALL human beings are sinners. All of us and sin is sin according to the Scripture. God will judge the sinners not man. Mr. Osteen is simply trying to reach out to ALL people and give them the knowledge of God and assist people in developing their own relationship with God. Ask him if a murderer is a sinner; he will say yes. Ask him if an adulterer is a sinner; he will say yes. Ask him if a thief is a sinner; he will say yes. Ask him if an idol worshipper is a sinner; he will say yes. Why? Because the Bible tells us so.

Debbie, the "bible" is just a history book and sin is just a made-up term used to control or shame other people. If the bible is the be all, end all, why are there different "versions"? "God's" word? Or just some human's?

The bible is a collection of stories. Some of them pure myth. Some of them expressing powerful truths. But in the end, stories. We humans like to use them to judge others often as a way of grasping onto superiority instead of as a means of understanding ourselves. How easily we condemn others under the guise that God is the condemner. How easily many of us speak for God in that driven need to self-justify. And so we have many believe that an all-loving god tortures those who fail life's test forever, a page in a book thick with stories. If you are able to rationalize that, pretty much anything else is child's play...

No way! Men hate being restricted, which brings me to one of my favorite scriptures.
        2 Peter 1:20-21 (New International Version, ©2010)
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Sure, tthere are different versions of the King James Bible, made for easier reading for some people; however, the different versions all say the same thing – be it backward, forward, right side up or upside down, it's the same. The Bible is the truth, the way, and the light to Jesus and Jehovah God. To God give all the glory. As for Piers, he does seem to be picking on Joel. I like Joel alot and he is very inspirational for me. Take care.

Thanks for your comment and opinion but it's not a story.... There is a trend that I've seen that most all people who have decided to ignore the truth are because they don't like the truth and be told how to live, decide to say the Bible is a story. The Bible states exactly that we all have Free-Will so you choice what you want to do but ignore that we are not sinners is just disappointing. You tell me that a child is born without sin? For example, "please don't touch the cookie jar!" The child disobeys and touches anyways. There are moral laws is this world and you can't disagree with this. There are different versions of the Bible to help communicate the message to all kinds reasons because of ones age, the languages, or what an easier language to understand from the old translations but the message that it provides does not change. Read John 14:6, this answers all philosophical questions that man still battle with and are hard-headed because we can't accept something. Thanks again for your choice to express that you have free-will to ignore what you believe is a story.

        Hi katie,
Its true there are many different versions of the Bible and each new version that comes out is a little more watered down than the last, This is mans doing; to let him live as the carnal man wants, rather than the way God commands. But there is a sure scientific method for proving the true Word of God using numerics. Let me invite you to a site that has a copy of the NUMERIC ENGLISH NEW TESTAMENT free to download. Read the introduction and come to know without a doubt that that the Bible is the Word of God. The web site is: http://www.unleavenedbreadpublishing.org/

Anyone who does not follow what the bible says is sure of hell and that's the simple truth. Some people want to bend the bible to suit their emotions while others hate the truth because they submit to their emotions. HELL is real. So, let everyone beware. The kingdom of Heaven is near.

Just because you don't believe that the bible is the work of God doesn't mean others don't have the right to an opposing view. Liberal atheists don't have sole right to "freedom" of speech. Judging by the commentary in this column there appears to be just as many small minded, intolerant and self righteous atheists.

First we need to understand what we mean by a "version". A better word than "version" is "translation". The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. If every man could read Hebrew and Greek, then we would have no need for an "English version". Most people can't read Greek, "It's all Greek to me"! We must rely, therefore, upon men who are fully fluent in English and Greek. These "scholars" read the original Greek Bible and come up with an English equivalent. This process is called translation. We have all seen a foreign diplomat give a news conference through the help of a translator. One translator may choose different words or sentences, but the message is identical. Translation is a reliable science of communicating between different languages. Remember, it was God Himself who created all the language barriers in Genesis 11 at the Tower of Babel. God is satisfied that His inspired word can be maintained although translated into over 200 languages. http://www.bible.ca/b-many-versions.htm

Could you tell me how many of the history books you used in school has gone through what the bible has gone through, has as much followers as the bible, have so much confirmed archeological finds and such power that people are compelled to live by its tenets? You'd probably find none. That's why your intelligent mind should help you see that the bible is different. As a Nigerian, I must say that it made American what it is today. Check your currency.

You see Katie, in terms of a history book, through out my years of education I have come across at least hundreds of history books telling the same exact story, yet worded differently. Ancient Hebrews never saw the Old Testament as a History book but rather a narrative about a personal God touching mankind in a personal way and the amazing thing is we are invited into the story. Before, the bible was either written in only Greek or Latin and most of the worlds population at the time spoke neither language. So a couple of guys name Martin Luther and Tyndale translated the bible so that not one man could tell people what it said...for the first it was available to ALL mankind to judge for themselves

Glenda S and Others. I attend church every week, help with our youth group, give a significant amount of money to my beautiful, God loving church and I am gay. My point...I also write what God tells me to write and it is about God's love and understanding for all people. Do you think just because I am Gay God doesn't speak to me? You're sadly mistaken. God speaks to all of us and God is still speaking.

        Katie K,

Likely for the same reasons there are multiple versions of "Google", "War & Peace", and "The Art of War". When a publication (not so much for Google) originally exists in one language (such as Hebrew and Greek for the Bible) translators utilize "translation philosophies" when they translate from the original language. Having studied Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, Russian, German, and French I can tell you that there is no such thing as a direct translation from one language into another. Now, especially when a book gets some age on it, say a few thousand years in the case of the Bible, one must not only know what the words translate to today but must also have an understanding of what the original author intended.

If you're truly interested in understanding why there are so many "versions" most of the modern english translations will explain their philosophy in the introduction right in the front of the book. Many english readers read at different levels, so some translations (the CEV/Contemporary English Version) is written at about an 8th grade level) target a specific audience...same as the King James translators, in which politics played a big part...but that will ignite another argument entirely.

A great book to read for those who would like to disprove the Bible and Christ is "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel (a real and noted journalist). Very scholarly, and scientific investigation.

God Bless you all in your search for truth!!!

I'm so very sorry that you feel this way. Whereas I don't agree with everything that Pastor Olsteen says, he is definitely on the right track. I'm sure that you have never taken the time to read the Scriptures and you have never had any Christian instruction, or education. I was raised in the Church, not Catholic, and my faith is such an important part of my life I can't imagine living without it. I remember what I heard years ago, although I don't know who said it. "If Christianity and the teachings of the Bible are all a sham, a hoax, as you suggest and we follow this faith, one day we will meet our Maker, what have we lost? But if we don't, we have everything to lose! " I hope that you change your mind. God bless you.

There are many versions of the bible for several different reasons. I believe chief among the reasons is that people want their "Jesus" to be the way they want Him to be. People because of sin and their love for sin reject the truth because that would mean they were wrong in their sin and would need to adopt a life different from what they desire. As a matter of fact, all who say their is no God deny Him for this very reason. Its a fearful thing to live your life in fear of the judgment of God, so if you ignore or deny it, and Him, it in effect allows you to continue living in a way in which God said not to. But, if the Bible is the true word of God, as I know it is, then many, many people, regrettably, will one day wish they had listened.

To all who are broken in spirit, turn to Jesus and he will lift you up.

Mr. Morgan is NOT missing the point. It's people like Joel O'Steen and his flight attendant slapping wife that use words like these to promote discrimination against Gay people. In Texas where Mr. O'Steen is located it is LEGAL for a Christian to get a Gay person fired because they are Gay....and they do it all the time.

ever from the pulpit. This interview was a setup to cause Joel to expose Christianity's truth about gays because the interviewer knew Joel couldn't lie.

I hope one day he finds what is and isn't true and will have the strength to look into his heart for such answers. The word of God became the word of man, unfortunately. I understand he only wants the best for us, but he must realize that God made us this way and we can't just shake it off like an addiction or change who we are. Many of us have tried! Believe me! Drug and alcohol addiction is not the best analogy, but it might be useful in an attempt to draw a comparison. At some point, an alcoholic recognizes their desire to have a drink each and every day of their life. They are an alcoholic and nothing can change that. S/he wakes up with the desire to drink and each day, hour and minute, some alcoholics make a conscious choice to abstain from drinking, in the face of their deepest desires, because they understand the negative impact that drinking has on their own life, the lives of those closest to them and society as a whole.

God didn't make you that way. The Bible says that everything that Jesus came to do (sacrifice in the cross) is to set you free and to live life abundantly. It’s hard to understand the concept because for us leaving abundantly is doing what we feel is right for us. Unfortunately the tendency to satisfy our flesh is just a sign that we are in need of a savior, you see; God is holly and he can't have a relationship with you if you are unholy. I know this sounds strange because we think: then why he created it us if He couldn't have a relationship with us because our sins? The fact is that the first 2 humans were without sin, but Adam and Eve decided to disobey God and do as they wanted, ignoring what God said NOT TO DO. And that led them to a punishment from God, which is the same thing that being gay is or any sin is, we feel or think is who we are and it feels right, it matches our desires and it seems to fit in our lives, but you were created to live in a right order in the order or ways that God destined for you to live, Unfortunately Satan blind us and makes us think that God is wrong and that we are right. Satán is the father of all lies.
There is nothing that I can tell you that will make you change your mind, because it all depends from your heart and your understanding of God's Word and if you don't believe in the Bible and don't have fear for the Lord you won't understand it, sins are the same, lying, killing, being gay etc. The good news is that God loves us from the time we were in our mother's womb (says it in Psalms) and he wants to have a relationship with us and that's why he sent his son (Jesus) to pay the ticket or the penalty for our sins and thanks to Him we can have access to God the father and ask Him to forgive our sins and to give us His spirit to live in us. The Bible says that because He loved us so much he sent His son; His only son to whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Seek Him with honest heart while He can be found, the only way to heaven is thru Jesus, read your Bible and ask Him to reveal Himself to you and you'll feel the love He has for you, it's amazing. Once you accept it Him as your savior His spirit will convict you about your sins, and then you will be made free, is a process, is not overnight. But one thing know for sure: He wants to meet with you, He loves you..

According to the bible (Romans 1:27) it is a sin. It is black and white, just like murder, fornication, adultery...etc. If you have this problem, God can deliver you from it, and it's not easy, just like the problems I have are not easy to overcome. None of us can overcome sin without the help of Jesus Christ, He whom the son hath set free is free indeed. If you ask Him to help you He will help. If you ask him for bread will he give you a stone?

        @ Jenny,
You hope one day he'll find out that what he preaches is wrong? Read the Bible – with your heart and all honesty – you'll find out that what he says is right, and I hope and pray that in doing so you find a better and more personal relationship with God than Mr Osteen has.

Jenny – I would like to say keep fighting the good fight and don't give up. But the truth is you need to give up because it's a fight you will not win on your own. Put it all on God and your path will be revealed. You made the honest mistake of thinking you could "change" on your own. You did not become gay be yourself. You were helped. All you need to do is acknowledge that you can't make it back on your own. God gave you this struggle because he knew you could handle it. Take his hand (right now!) he will not let you go. He loves you so much Jenny. Believe me!

I meant to say you did not become gay BY yourself. You didn't "decide" to be gay one day. What ever made you think you could just simply decide not to be. So don't think of it in terms of "to be or not to be" gay. You say you would be straight if you had it your way. Listen to your heart. Take his hand.

He loves all of us but please no that just because YOU like your lifestyle does not mean that it is holy in his sight because it is not. It is written, read it, my advice to you would be...be afraid...be very afraid...it is in the Bible. Read it. Living a christian life is not always easy, I am trying to do what I know is best for me and loving toward God but I want to know without a shadow of a doubt that I will be there with him someday...what feels good isnt always good for you. Do all of you people trying to "save" Jenny realize how insane you sound? How embarrassing that you would feel righteous enough to condemn someone elses lifestyle that is not effecting in any way whatsoever. But of course you people are removed from this hypocrisy because its not you that made up the rules... Its the magical, invisible skywizard who has the ultimate say-so. Listen to yourselves. You take Jenny's comment that she would "rather be straight" as an indication she someone feels she is in the wrong. In reality, its biggots such as yourselves that are in the wrong and creating this sort of self-hate.

Jenny- Be yourself. Live your life and be happy. Love who you want to love and be evolved enough to distinguish fact and science from fantasy and fiction.

Would you die for someway that way? I would say not. He did that for you and for me. That should not put fear in your heart, that was pure love, i can not put into words what that means to me...the fear that you should have is that you deny him. I am glad that Osteen was on the tube. The truth is going to be out there more and more and if you can't love and honor our Lord and Saviour, you better be afraid but know that you can't hide when that day comes and brother, I would not want to be in your shoes. Go ahead and make your snide remarks about your creator but you will burn. Its never too late to ask him to come into your heart. Try it...so much easier than be a hater and non-believer. To those who believe the Bible: that's what the bible says. You may not like him or his wife as a person, but the guy says what the bible says. However, there are many people who unfairly single out gay people as "THE" sinner when the bible doesn't think highly of adulterer, etc. I don't see people running around with signs saying "Adulterers are sinners", so ya I think those who have a thing against Gay people are bigots.
To those who do not believe in the Bible: it shouldn't really matter to you anyways.

Quote – "most gay people that I know are good people".

Perhaps debatably, but the same is true for many people. BUT – there are many good people in Hell today, simply because they sinned the "Sin unto Death" – denying the Holy Ghost and Salvation offered by Christ. And that means sacrificing what they consider most important, their perverse ways that separate them from God.

      • mktpdj

JessicaB – The difference can be summed up in a word. FORGIVENESS. Islam for example, still allows for a woman to be stoned to death for adultery. Christ also acknowledged that adultery is a sin punishable by death. He then said to a mob set to carry out her execution, "whoever among you that has not sinned can throw the first stone", they all walked away. Islam allows sinners to judge other sinners who "get caught". In Christ, GOD is our judge. He hates ALL sin but he loves ALL sinners. Through Christ, our sins are forgiven.

I am spiritual, not religious, and find it frustrating that religions and their material can impact my life so greatly. To me there is no difference between Islamic religious customs and beliefs being shoved down citizens throats by various Middle Eastern countries and Christian religious customs and beliefs being shoved down ours by the United States government.

I agree Debbie – Joel Osteen is only telling what his personal faith is, if people want to listen to it and be uplifted by it then fine. He's not inviting judgement – he said himself that he's not in the judging business – and those of you that are judging him obviously feel as though you are. What a shame – try not to be so cynical. If he were damning gays and then having affairs with them then I might find the lying uncomfortable and not listen to him anymore – but he's not doing that. He's just trying to make people's week a little more tolerable and hopeful. I haven't watched Mr. Morgan's show yet, but based on this "gotcha" style of journalism that I witnessed here, I doubt that I will. How disappointing that he wouldn't listen to his guests' answers and take them at face value. How sad that he had to keep twisting and digging till he got a soundbite "worth" showing. Integrity in journalism is a lost art. Try watching Jon Stewart – at least he is respectful to his guests.

Nothing easier then ganging up on some gays, the oppressed-minority punching bag of our day. And what of the few hundred thousand other sing Olsteen could be bringing up? Well, perhaps they're too busy committing them. The beauty of co-opting of "faith" is that any doubt is answered with "just have faith!" No need to think! We all breathe air, yet don't question why it works; we all assume the sun comes out at day and the moon at night, yet we don't question how this happens...so actually everyone operates in faith, Christians just happen to place their faith and understanding in God's hands through his Son, Jesus Christ.

As for different versions of the Bible, it is a preference and all were derived from the King James Version that was first translated.

We have different versions of text books in schools , yet no one disputes high school diplomas or college degrees based on what text you were taught from.

The very notion that "ALL human beings are sinners" is appalling. Look, religion is made up. That's all there is to it, it's just a man-made ruse constructed to control people. If you really think your god is real, and are so convinced by all the genocide, slavery, misogyny, murder, and incest in the Bible and think that this book shows that there is a god and that he loves you read "god is Not Great" by Christopher Hitchens. Or look up the history of the Bible. It's pretty obvious that the whole thing is a bunch of nonsense made up by some Bronze0age illiterate desert people that got past along for hundreds of years and manipulated beyond recognition. The best part about it is that once you do this you can free yourself from this evil burden that religious belief places on you, that of you being born in sin and will go to hell if you question god. Again this is all made up. People like Joel are not trying to protect or help you or show you God. You are there sheep, there slaves in a sort of way. They are doing this because they love control, money and power. Don't let them have power over you.

You have all tried to make him look bad, and he always responds with a smile and kind words. You just CAN'T STAND the fact that a guy, who has managed to bring together so many people – through religion (and this is the KEY no-no for you petty, self-absorbed God-Complexers) – and just makes them feel so good and positive about themselves, DOES IT IN THE NAME OF JESUS. You all want to use the "power" of your various forms of reaching the masses and public exposure to ACTUALLY DO DAMAGE to people YOU don't like or approve of. You are clearly NOT fair and unbiased. Your purpose is to make issues or people that you don't like look bad, just because YOU don't agree with them. That is very typical liberal behavior and I hope your show fails. Miserably. Amen. The world only agrees with those who belong to the world. When Jesus was talking to the religious pharisees they did not know him because He was way out of town – I mean he didn't belong to this world and all interviews with Him well will ended up with WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? But, one day, at the right time the sinner's eyes will be opened to see the forces that plays them behind the scene to act, to live, and to believe the way they do. They do not understand now because they reason not with the spirit man. However, we do nothing but the two edge word does everything as it is released. Remember, it is still a secret that not even satan understands, ha, ha, ha...

I think the whole question from Piers was intended to be a publicity stunt to boost ratings on his new show! What a shame to use Joel Osteen to do that! While I am not a follower of Osteen nor do I necessarily enjoy his style of preaching , he is only stating what the Bible says, which is what God says. I thought he handled it well & I think Piers was just bullying him and egging him on. Joel himself admitted he too is a sinner and that one sin is no greater than another.

Joel Osteen did nothing wrong, he never personalized his statement towards Elton or any gays, nor was he the one that did the bashing. Piers, lighten up-you could be talented but don't bully good people just to give your ratings a boost.

People are not sinners Debbie. People are human beings. Human beings engage in activities which can reasonably be catagorized as sin, but again they are human beings. They are loved by God precisely because they are not bad. Only sin is bad. Humans can't even be good. God is the only One good, just as Jesus Christ pointed out and recorded in scripture. People are worth working salvation in and granting the gifts such as grace and salvation. That's what God does, and always does. If people could be "bad" or "sinners" then the whole lot would be lost since you "can't clean dirt". Think about it. What is the difference between dirty and dirt? Be careful not to judge, just love. No sinning there! And lastly if you serve your own will you can't answer this topic honestly, your still lost.

This is like a vegatarian confronting a meat eater.
There's no point to this discussion. God will judge everyone when the time comes.
If you don't think what you're doing is a sin, then by all means continue to do it.
It's on you in the end.
Does Elton John even believe in God?
If he does, then he doesn't believe in the scripture.

JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED. What about a "vow of poverty"? The Pastor, his wife who write books, splash all over TV, and similar "people of faith" who have made a fortune out of their opinions, who hide behind the "scripture" to judge others perhaps should consider what they do for those less fortunate. This is about all people being created equally and treated with respect. One look at this Pastor's eyes and face when he tries to justify bigotry and that smirk glued on his face, make me think he has trouble swallowing his judgemental and discriminatory preachings.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick and powerful, sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And tell me why the BIBLE has never been distroyed in all these years ? Because there is a God.

You see, people just take delight in getting Christians to believe they judge others, when their own conscious has already judged them. They prefer attacking and blaming others for what their conscience is telling them. Leave Joel alone, what would be the use to go about telling people you are a sinner, we are all sinners, but union with Christ helps you to know you real self, gain your self esteem (which most addicts lack). Joel only acts like Christ who did not go about looking for sinners to judge but encourage them, there is a light and a better life.

Joel, next time please exhibit more confidence for US, Vic, did better! DONT be cowed by these intimidates! Tell him to go on sinning if he feels good, guess that what they want to hear!

Joel, feel good and stay focus and enjoy what God has given to you!

Asserting that the position you've chosen is not really yours but is the will of an all knowing and all powerful deity is a comfortable stance for most people. They can then choose to opt-out of the discussion when the going gets rough by claiming divine precedent. It is the oldest ploy known, it is the reason for inventing Gods, and is essentially the reason we humans cannot solve our social problems. When people pull the God card on you they are basically saying, "You are not worth any further consideration on my part, but I'll leave you this crumb: God loves you." There is no such thing as a tolerant religion and there can be no merit based arguments when religion is involved. Oh yes, miracles are bunk, that about sums it up.

I agree with you Debbie. I think sometimes people just want to pin point one thing and focus on it. But the Bible says also that if you have committed one sin you have committed them all. Because in Gods eyes sin is sin, one is not greater than the other. And I for one haven't found a sinless person yet in my day. The only one that I know that is sinless is Jesus. I'm glad that Joel stood his ground. Amen!

Debbie, that's just redundant. Sure other things are sins according to the bible, but did it say anywhere that being straight was a sin? Gay being a sin but being straight isn't, I can't put it into words how silly and biased that is. I'm glad I'm agnostic rather than having to follow that bull.

    January 24, 2011 at 2:40 pm | Report abuse | Reply
    • MC

Being "straight" is a sin if you are a fornicator or adulter, along with being a liar, thief, idolator, murder, etc. The point is that we are ALL sinners and Jesus died on the cross to save us from the sins we ALL commit. Christ died for us while we were still sinners. For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish , but have everlasting life. John 3:16. I can only speak for myself....but when God was not in my life, despite all I had, I was not happy. Since I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour and began studying His words, in the Bible, I have a joy and hope that I never knew before. I choose to live my life for Jesus. What bad comes of it? If you follow what Jesus says, you live a good life, loving others, helping others, trying to do what is moral and right. Is that so bad? What am I missing by living this way? In my opinion, nothing....and I know the difference because I didn't believe at all before. I used to think that I was my own "god" and in control my own destiny yet something was missing and I couldn't find peace despite all the worldly things I had. I am so happy I don't believe that anymore. Am I better than anyone else now because of my faith? No absolutely not. The Bible says not to judge. Romans 14:7 " For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. 11 It is written: " 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.' " 12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God." Do I still make mistakes, am I still a sinner? YES, but I have God's grace and mercy covering me and I try to be a better person with each day. Is that bad? I don't think so. And what if I die and find out I was wrong? Oh well, then I lived a good life doing my best for others and then there is nothing, as the atheists say BUT what if when I die, I find out the Bible IS the Truth, then what? The Bible is very clear for believers and non-believers alike.

The point is Piers knew what O'Steen's answer was going to be. He is probably looking for ratings...nothing more. What kills me though is that everyone that touts we should all be "tolerant" of one another, because that is politically correct, appear to be the least tolerant of all especially to those that disagree with their point of view. There is such hypocrisy in being "PC" it's not funny. I thought this was a free country where one can have their own opinion, that is what made this nation great but I guess not nowadays....so much for "tolerance".

There are no big sin or small sin. Pastor Osteen has to understand the the Bible also state speak the word as it is. If the people like it or not because the truth will make us free. The Holy Bible states living a gay life style is a sin.

Everyone is a God's creation and God loves us all as his creation.
Through the scriptures we learned how to better live our lives, or how to behave, so we will regret the least.
Joel translated what is written, didn't mean to offend anyone.
If gays cannot change what they are, then they know they are doing their best in Gods eyes and they have a clean heart about it.
They shouldn't care about what people think or say about them, and should not be offended...
'Why do they need to hear it's a sin or not, if they cannot change it?

The bible says many interesting things. For example about ince$t

        Genesis, Chapter 19, Verses 30-38.
        30. And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
        31. And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
        32. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
        33. And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
        34. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
        35. And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
        36. Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
        37. And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
        38. And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-ammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

I think it is so interesting how people who do not have a personal relationship with God through Jesus say that we Christians are judging when we say we believe what is in the bible. I didn't say it was wrong, God does. And once more, praying and spending time with God reveals to each person what areas in their lives God wants us to work on. I do not have a heaven nor a hell to put someone in and I know I miss it too. So saying a person is sinning is not judgement; just truth.

Seriously, that makes absolutely no sense.... The fact the man, quoted something from his religious book does not make him judgmental. I would spread a word of caution to all those who think this man is judgmental and wrong in his beliefs. Be careful that you don't become judgmental towards those who believe differently, more conservatively or more liberally than you, otherwise you risk being completely contradictory. Good luck with all your debating.

      @ Hank, you're wrong.

Love the sinner but hate the sin. I suppose you never "judge" your children by correcting them when they disobey or do something bad? If you don't that goes a long way to explaining the troubles in our society especially our youth.

Anyway, just because he was saying Elton and others are sinners, doesn't mean he was judging them except in the hopes that some might hear and through his message hear the Lord calling to them to turn from their ways and draw near Him, who Loves like no other. It's funny how unbelievers like to twist the word "judge" around while doing it themselves.

        - (Matthew 10:34-36)

"Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two, and two against three..."
        –(Luke 12:51,52)

"And He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it along, likewise also a bag, and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one."

Mr Morgan says that Mr Osteen is a kind of judge because of his millions of followers. Mr Morgan must then also be a judge because of his millions of viewers and through the way he twisted Mr Osteen's words particularly in his tweets he is passing judgement on Mr Osteen who is only following his beliefs and what he knows from scripture. I'm not the biggest fan of Joel Osteen (I have some issues with some of his prosperity teaching) but I admire the way he answered this questioned. If Mr Morgan had actually listened to what he was saying he wouldn't have kept asking ridiculous questions to try and make him out as a bad guy. By the way even if Elton John wasn't gay he would still be a sinner, we have all 'missed the mark' as Mr Osteen would say, but God gives grace.

And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

This is a ridiculous portion of the interview to highlight. I mean the guy is a CHRISTIAN! Of course he is going to believe that being gay is a sin. Big shocker there! Not defending the guy but it was Piers that was so focused on the gay issue, not Joel. The fact that he's not out there telling all gay people they are going to hell makes him a better "Christian" then most in my opinion. We have enough "fire and brimstone" southern baptists around for that.

He was asked a question and gave his answer honestly according to what he believes based on his understanding of scripture. Then Mr. Morgan came back with the Elton John stuff and officially annointed Joel as a judge because people listen to him. Romans 3:23 says that we are all sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God. We have all missed the mark. Me, you, Mr. Osteen, and Elton John. There is no getting away from that fact. A more appropriate question for Mr. Morgan to have asked him would have been, "Do you think you are a sinner?" If Joel was being honest, then he would have to say Yes! If not then he would just be proving that he is a sinner by lying about it.

I have to agree with you here. Maybe I'm too pragmatic, but as a Missionary Baptist, and one who follows my heart and convictions of Faith, I have serious doubts about any televangelist or TV preacher; instead what I see and hear reminds me of 2 Tim 3:5, where Paul is addressing false teachers:

"Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away".

I hope to be proven wrong, but anything or anyone associated with television has never failed to disappoint.

LOL...really? Only crazy people take the Bible to be literal truth nowadays, not even the Pope believes it's all true. There was no Adam and Eve, the was no Garden of Eden, it's all made up fairytales...and to still believe in it as an adult is just ridiculous. Jesus may have lived, he was probably a pretty smart guy if he did, and if he were here today he would surely tell you the same thing I just did. The world is not shades of grey. God gave us everything we need because He loves us and a rulebook to explain how to live until He returns.

The problem is we have a lot of people that don't want to follow the rules. It has always been like this. It will always be like this until He returns.

What the bible leaves out is that Eve was not the first woman, Lilith was and that's not a pretty story. She was Adam's equal and would not cater to him, she was independent and therefore banished. That's in one of the hidden gospels that the Vatican has. Of course you can google it and all the info is available.

@JoelOsteen: using your religious beliefs to help yourself life a better life is admirable. Using your religion to boss, judge, or condemn those who don't share your faith is, in a word, evil. Time to re-read that holy book of yours, brother, because if you're using your religion to prove that gays are worse than you – or that gay behavior is worse than yours – then you're doing the wrong things.

As Christians we're not saying that one person is worse than us. What we're doing is answering a question directed toward an issue raised about a lifestyle choice that the Bible repeatedly says is wrong.

So...who hates here? Those who love someone enough to be bold enough to stand and try to correct them in hopes they'll come to the Truth? Or those who deny Salvation by saying it's not real? Who's the real hater and Anti-Christ?

Mr. Morgan, this interview was pathetic. You attack Mr. Olsteen for stating what the scripture says. He isn't calling Elton John a sinner. That isn't what he is here to do. He simply is stating that the path Elton John has taken is a sin in the Bible. Good, bad, whatever....the Bible says it;s a sin. If you don't like it, take it up with the boss when your time comes. Mr. Olsteen preaches positive messages that really can influence peoples decisions, if they want to make their decisions according to what the scriptures say. The bible states marriage is between one man and one woman. If you wish to debate this, do so with God on judgement day.

Pierce was so rude to pretty Victoria and sweet, kind Joel. I love all the gay people, and Pastor Joel & Victoria love people, all of them, just so happens their job is to tell people the TRUTH of the scriptures. Pierce was so disrespectful of their honorable place in ministry. Pierce ain't no American is he!!? Send him back, I say!! He sure is no drop in the bucket to Larry King! Y-U-C-K! And that crooked face!! Who wants to watch another mean Brit. At least the talent show one was pretty handsome. He was like KANYE WEST TO TAYLOR SWIFT!!!! So very rude. He wouldn't even let Pretty sweet Victoria help him understand. Producers, listen up: this guy's rude and not entertaining. Get Craig Ferguson or somebody like that. He knows how to respect people's intelligence. I think if Elton had been there, or if Elton should meet Joel & Victoria, they would be so kind, and Elton's not stoopit, he would immediately sense the love these ministers would show him. Lakewood sometimes even has great talent from London do their worship. Elton would probably especially enjoy that. We are all learning. Back to all that mean mean spirited rudeness of Pierce: he seemed to be seething into a pool of green sludge like the Witch in the Wizzard of Oz, out of sheer jealousy of Joel's purty wife, Pastor Joel's virtuous lil' Taylor. Send that Witchy Kanye Pierce back to england for etiquette classes.

That was the biggest setup ever!!!

Morgan did not have to keep beating a dead horse!
Joel answered his question and Morgan just kept trying to get Joel to bash and put down the gay people!!

Joel is 100% correct since he’s a believer and preacher of the Holy Bible.
To those who are NOT believers in the Holy Bible, well of course they are NOT going to understand the conviction of those who do believe.

The scriptures states that the ‘believer’ and the ‘non-believer‘ have absolutely NOTHING in common, therefore don‘t even try to understand!

Morgan and Joel are coming from two different perspectives, one is coming from a spiritual perspective and the other a worldly perspective!! DUH!!!

This has been and will always be the problem between the ‘believers’ and the ‘non-believers’, the TWO DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES!!

I think Piers is desperately trying to generate controversy to draw attention to his show. All CNN does these days is try to generate ratings – frequently by sensationalizing whatever "news" they happen to be making that day. In this case, Joel went out of his way to be respectful – the headline reads as if Joel said Elton John is a sinner. He did not make that statement, only answered "yes" when asked. To me, there is a minor difference.

The other night, when Howard Stern was on, spewing his hate for Jay Leno – where were you people calling him on it?

Joel lives his faith, and tries to inspire people to help others. I've watched his show about six times – and though I am not at all religous, I find his sermons uplifting. I usually find preachers on television revolting, boring, hypocritical, and would often label them as charlatans. In this case, I like this guy.

Piers on the other hand, not so much. I find he gives a pass to someone like Stern when he bashes Leno – when all the information in the press clearly indicates Leno was a victim – is irresponsible. I don't mind tough questions, but this guy is an entertainer, not a newsman. I miss the days when CNN was mostly news and less of this manufactured drama. News stories are good – this is not one of them.

On the issue of gays, Elton John, etc. – live and let live. Elton is no saint in my book – I couldn't care less if he is offended by Mr. Olsteen's beliefs.

    Mr. Morgan,

If this is how your show will be, I will not be tuning in. I felt you were very unfair to Joel Osteen. It is not HIS words that say this is a sin, it is in the Bible. We are all sinners. God is the ultimate judge, not us. You asked him if he believes it is a sin, as a Christian we believe the Bible. I really feel that was the point Joel was trying to make until you put him in a corner. He makes a point to say that we should not judge. What does Elton John have to do with it? It was like you wanted to bring up a public gay figure to make Joel look like the bad guy. He didn't write the Bible nor can he change the wording of the Bible just to please everyones situation or lifestyle. God tells us he is the ultimate judge and that we should love our neighbor regardless of their lifestyle or belief. I believe Joel does a great job of teaching this. I really think you owe him an apology.

Meh. Who cares? Anyone who has devoted his life to the delusion and empty promises of religion cannot be trusted to speak coherently on anything. Osteen is out to fulfill his calling – to make an enormous amount of money pandering books to support his lavish lifestyle, which even other Christians recognize as an affront to everything Jesus stood for.

As for the insane who actually agree with what he's saying and equate loving someone with murder and theft – you REALLY need to get some mental help. But, of course,, Mr Osteen manages to omit the accompanying verses about eating shellfish or pork also being an abomination. I do not believe that any of those actions are sins, nor do I believe that God regards one of them more sinful than the other – if at all. It is amazing to me how fundamentalists and prosperity-gospel proponents (who cannot support their views from a Biblical standpoint without coming to a conclusion first, then cherry-picking Bible verses to substantiate their ignorance of God and the Bible – while he laughs all the way to the bank.

And you can bet he wears makeup, his wife wears makeup, unnaturally shaves and powders her body, they both clip their hair. . .and yet somehow it is important for him to define the sins of other people?

I'm so tired of eyebrow-plucking con-artists insisting they are the exclusive arbiters and interpreters of God for everyone else. Apparently once a minister is able to fleece enough money from a gullible public, the media decides what they have to say about other free Americans is very important, yet try to get an interviewer to question just how "Christian" one of these people are and we'll have instant silence.

Why pick and choose which scripture should be followed? If you believe the bible, the whole bible, is the word of God then obey all that it contains. Christians should kill those farmers that plant two different crops side by side. They should stone those that wear garments made of two different cloths. Eating shellfish should again be considered an abomination. Christians should now be allowed to sell their children into slavery. Ahhh...the good ole' days. Let's all live by the word of God and let the slaying begin. Oh, but don't judge.

And why do others insist on going on national television to talk about gays as sinful? If we actually DO believe in freedom of religion, then why not have an interviewer question the motives of the alleged "Christian" for attempting to claim to interpret the Bible for the gays? If Osteen is sooo sure of his own purity, and the gays are so sure of their own pure hearts, why don't these alleged "Christians" just leave the gays alone instead of trying desperately to promote second class citizenship on them at every turn?

I'm quite sure that gays get very sick and tired of watching and listening to "straight" people talk about them all of the time.

I'm sure that the good Reverend is thinking of the notorious Leviticus verse, and a few others. Quite aside from the issue of whether we should be looking at the Biblical texts and asking "what does it say?" instead of looking deeper and asking "what does it mean? Is the bible to be read literally, or metaphorically?", I can't help wondering if Rev. Osteen keeps each and every one of the mandates in the Pentateuch - not mixing meat and dairy, ritual cleansing, and so on. Here's saying that the Reverend is, shall we say, a bit "inconsistent" when it suits his purpose.

I'm told that we are made in the image of God, so it seems axiomatic that God is made in the image of us – to be fair I'll say both our physical and mental aspects are modeled in this way. So what part of God and the subsequent soul and power of thought that we inherited upon our initial placement here was gay? Osteen shines of nobility, bridled by smiles and proper posture and enough confidence in his god to shake the tepid believers, but all of this showmanship is to blanket the community of his personal intolerance. This is truly a case of "life imitating art." His "God" justifies his personal intolerance. I find it curious how few religious people frown when carrying out hate crimes, it seems that many people would have a mind set of " well I don't want to do it, but its the rule of God." What I find is that even when people take the high road of " helping some one see the light " to make it seem less like a hate crime, they still preach about its destruction on our society. Thereby cultivating a scapegoat for the ignorant to point fingers and eventually rise to some power among peers and cast hate among the other ignorant.

It's not to be taken literally, that we "made God", but if something is made in the image of another you can inspect the newer item and reveal similar aspects in the original model. Or you could take it literally and say that man DID invent God and our personal mental models just project what our concepts of a God ought to be.

I will restate with one of the commentors said: The bible was written by MEN, not God. And it was edited, and re-edited many times over. Look up the first council of nicea, and the many church councils that followed. MEN argued and decided which texts sounded good enough to be included in the bible (new testament especially). Also, Jesus was not born on christmas. look it up. There was no mention of a manger, wise men, a magical star to follow, or magical birth of jesus until long after his death. Do your research. Jesus is not even mentioned outside the bible until Josephus – and even then, the earliest Josephus copy we have is from the middle ages, and he is mentioned in one line (which could have been fudged in the middle ages). All highly suspect. Yet people continue to blindly believe the most absurd things...

Unfortunately, history is not on your side of the argument. Scholars with more knowledge have studied the very things you cite and still come away with the conclusion that there indeed was a historical person named Jesus. Also, your point about the Bible being written by man is only half right.. it was inspired by God!

Scholars? citation needed. There is NO reference outside of the NT that refers to Jesus. Nazareth was NOT a city in the 1st century. You should get to school and read a little more.

There is NOT ONE contemporary writer of Jesus' time that spoke of Jesus Christ.

Psst. Go ahead and tell us how Josephus wrote about Jesus in the "Antiquities" and I'll be more than happy to tell youthat not only was Josephus born AFTER teh supposed Jesus died, but the quote which you will be mining from his work was a forgery by one of Esubius' scribes.

I am also continually amazed that people believe in a book, written and rewritten by politicians and churchmen (one and the same really) over 15 hundred or so years. That's ok though. We all get to choose how we live. The thing I find unacceptable is the assumption that it is ok to impose one's religious beliefs on others. That is immoral, whether it comes from an extremist muslim, jew, or christian.

News Flash to Joel: The Bible has been translated a number of times; mistranslated as well. So scripture is not the word of God if it can be mistranslated. Example; "God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost" is a mistranslation (King James version) of the original Aramaic word for Spirit which is "Spiros." So the Greek version was "God the father, son and Holy Spirit." However, spiros in Aramaic does not mean "spirit," rather it means "breath" as in "breath of life." Also, in Aramaic, Pilate asks Joseph of Aramathea if the "corpse" is still on the Cross, Joseph asks for permission to remove " alive body" of Christ. Please get your scriptures correct in the original language before you tell us what they mean, God bless you.

Aramaic? The 4 Gospels were written Greek. So anything Aramaic would've been a later fabrication. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Then your eyes and ears will be opened, and you'll be able to get your own history right.

The bottom line is we live in a country without God and Christ. Our knowledge of the Bible and absolute truths is leaving us or has left us already. Sin will always be present till Christ comes. If Christians have the wrong book and wrong belief, then explain the rest of the world and it's lack of food, shelter, and clothing. The United States sends out the most missionaries than any other country. We also have the most churches and are free to worship. The farther away we get from God, the more he will judge. Remember Noah and the flood? While Christians are pleading with those to come to Christ, we are laughed at. While Noah warned people about the flood, they laughed and scoffed him also. Until the day the rain started. I pray that God may open your eyes and you may find the truth. John 3:16

I hope our planet survives long enough so that more human beings evolve past the need to reference myths and imaginary beings to explain away the things they don't fully understand about the universe. Humans would also be better off if we were able to bravely face our eventual demise without the need to employ fictional characters as a means to come to terms with our own mortality. Whenever I see thousands of Religious pilgrims of any faith on TV flocking to some holy site that is meaningless outside the scope of their own beliefs, I wonder how the human race even made it this far.

If Elton John were in front of me I would be-friend him and his family and also deliver them the gospel of how Jesus came to this Earth and died for each and everyone's sin that whoever believes in Him shall be saved and have ever lasting life. You don't tell somebody that they better stop sinning because they will go to hell, rather you tell them that Jesus took away all our sins and once you believe that you are saved forever. See, once you believe that you are justified and it is a life long progress of sanctification or being made Holy into the likeness of Christ. With that sanctification you naturally stop doing the things you once did and start doing the things Christ wants you to do but again it is a life long process but you do change because you repented or changed your mind about who Jesus is and with that change of mind comes a change of action. Joel Osteen is clearly trying to be a man pleaser which is not good, God tells us that when we deliver the truth we will be hated. God bless

Piers was going OK and had potential even not matching exactly the network team profile. He was more focused in controversy (for the ratings to rise) than to try understand the answer.
The answer is clear and it was well explained. Some may not like it, but he asked again three times as if he didn't understand... So many things to talk about... clearly this is desperate behavior and a little bit of lack of respect with the guest.
Is this an afternoon talk show? Level is going down

Kill the messenger, not the message. That's old and bad. And we have been doing this for 2011 years...
Joel explained very well, but the focus was not in his explanation, but in the controversy. That's what raises ratings.
If Piers didn't want to hear that his friend is a sinner, like we all are, why invite a pastor to his show?
Looks like he wanted really to replace other talk show hosts of bad TV instead of LK.

Piers style of "interviewing" is uncomfortable to me because instead of interviewing people in a neutral way as Larry King does, Piers displays his opinions and judges – ex. "Elton will be angry with you" I don't think I will be watching him much. He also seems full of himself and not very humble.

As usual – a "Christian" spews what he believes while completely ignoring the rest of the Bible. There are LOTS of passages that seemingly abhor various acts which most of us do on a DAILY basis. Like eating shellfish, yet in Leviticus 11:11 the Bible says quite clearly "They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination."

Another question I might ask in passage after passage the Bible rails against the wealthy, does Joel actually believe his flagrant wealth-building is a Bible-approved message? Here's a succinct point from Mark 8:36
"For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?"

Since you put God in quotations, I will assume that you're an athiest. So, are you looking forward to what happens to you after death? What happens if something unexplainable happens to you that science or sheer reality cannot prove? Is that what you would call 'magic'? Do you believe in wizards as well? If you did, I do not believe I would bash you for your belief in however you can explain the unexplainable. That, my friend, is the difference between Atheism and true Christianity. Atheists believe they have the right to insult other's beliefs while True Christians do not judge. If you don't believe in God, that is your belief, and no one should condemn or bash you for your beliefs.

You come acting as though you have something to offer, as if you're more intelligent because you do not "conform" to the belief in a God...you know most people who are like this don't even know as much as they think about science either. You wan to talk ignorance, then how about ignorant people who have no backing in anything other than just feeling they are better or more intelligent than other only on the justification that they do not believe in a supreme being. It's not love. It's an opiate. You really are delusional. Let me share with you a little Freudian quote: "Of course it would be very nice if there was a God who had created the world and a Providence filled with goodness, a moral order of the universe and life after death, and yet it is very strange that all of this is exactly what we might wish for ourselves." Get over your fear of death.

I am amused by how many human traits are used to describe god. If he is supposed to be all powerful, using human characteristics limits his power unless you consider humans to be all powerful. Now try to describe a being without using words that would describe a human and adds to the power. There are no words that can meet such a request, therefore how can you describe or tell me that one exists. On the other hand, if the universe has an infinite number of possibilities, then therefore it is plausible that some sort of deity can exist.

The entire Bible is inspired by God. (Read 2 Timothy 3:16.) This is not an opinion, it just is.
IF you are a Christian, the Bible is a road map for how to live your life in a way that is pleasing to God.

If you are not a Christian, you will undoubtedly disagree with God's laws and principles that are written in the Bible.
Non-Christians will argue their point of view to justify their lifestyle, but that doesn't make it right.
If you want to argue against Christianity, fine, but make it an informed argument by reading the Bible from cover to cover first.

Pier Morgan is an entertainer, not a journalist, this distinction needs to be made.
His objective is to entertain, and his style of entertainment is an in your face approach.

He chooses controversal topics to stir things up for the purpose of generating viewers, which translat into ratings, which translates into revene, which has a payoff for himself, be it a paycheck or an ego boost, nothing more.

If Piers were a journalist, he would research his topic by reading the Bible prior to his interview with Joel Osteen then the questions he asked would be delivered in a much different way.

Jesus is about love not hate.
Which of these two more closely resembles the tone of the Piers Morgan "interview"?
Once you answer that question, you will know what is in his heart.

Then he must be doing the same thing to the liar lifestyle, the cheating on your spouse lifestyle, the gossipping lifestyle, and all the rest. I mean we all know that lying is not a choice...it's who you are as well as cheating on your spouse...you were born that way...to cheat on your husband or wife. And gossipping, well there's no way we can deny that part of ourselves so how dare this man use religion to make liars, cheaters, gossips and the like feel bad because it says so in that book! (all of that I just typed was sarcasm of course) If you're going to say Joel Osteen and anyone else that believes the way he does is trying to create hate towards one particular group then include them all. I am deeply offended by Mr Osteens comments on CNN, to be in the idea system that being Gay is a choice or a sin, is shallow at best and morally irresponsible at worst. The bible has been used in so many ways to hurt, to hate to discriminate. There are many lines in the so called "scripture" that can not be taken as the ultimate truth. In the end Mr Osteen is a part of the force, the idea system, the public leaders that are the motivation of gay teens killing themselves. These young men have mistakingly bought into the idea that being Gay is a Mr Osteen chose to say on national TV "A Sin". I don't want this kinda of GOD, its ugly and hurts others. So many parts of the Bible call to love and acceptance and being a force for good in life. Such a sad day for any of the young Gay men or any of the Gay individuals in this world that had to listen to the hypocritical words of a man of GOD pass out a message of destruction to gay individuals, self esteem and self worth. I can honestly say that I was open to Mr Osteens message and speeches on TV, until today. His comments to suggest that being gay is inherently some type of choice is as old as the idea that being, white, black, latino, female or male is a choice. All of Gods creation was created that way. The difference in each other is not a choice of humans, it is the mark of the divine creator. What Mr Osteen set into motion by suggesting that being Gay is wrong will have a ripple effect out into everyone who watches the broadcast. I hope that one day Mr Osteen will have a change of heart and learn to love everyone, not just the individuals he believes are right according to the Bible. Love is not about what Mr Osteen did on TV. And I'll pray to my God for him to have a miracle in his thinking and not be a part of the message that motivates young gay men to hate themselves to such a deep level that they take their own life. As MLK said in one of his speeches, "The time is always right, to fight for what is right". And Mr Osteens comments are not right.

Its the way the word of your GOD is being used to HATE people that is the problem with this whole right wing religious hate machine. How many more young gay men have to kill themselves before the people saying they know GODS thoughts give up the discrimination that they hide behind the bible with. The choir will now sing "What a friend I don't have in Jesus because I am gay." Seriously the damage to the universe, to people lives all in the name of dirty religious word games has to stop. I would love to see you and Mr Mega Millionaire Church man go to the funeral of some young gay man who committed suicide and look into his parents eyes and say "Hi we are here to let you know that our GOD thinks your son missed the mark, could of lived e a better life. The Bible on page blah blah bah gave us the right to hate gays." What a empty, ugly, destructive message. And yet its ok to go on CNN and say it to millions? Did you ever think that maybe one of the parents of the Gay TEENAGERS who killed themselves was or will have to listen to the Millionaire God Guy pass out this message of hate? In the end this was all about money, for Mr Mega Million book selling TV celebrity. It would cost him tooo much money to face the truth and take a stand for what will always be true. Being gay is not a choice.

Why must people choose to allow this man and the handful of people they encounter that choose the Christian faith to bring out the worst in them? A lot of nonChristians are tolerant of everyone except for Christians (not fair and kind of hypocritical if you're all "I love and tolerate all people") and a lot of the Christians that are offended by that start with their very unChristian like comments that only fuel the fire of hate a lot of NonChristians have for Christians.

Will there ever be a point where everyone gets over themselves and treats everyone the way they should treat people because that's what decent human beings do? Wait, no because that would be asking way too much wouldn't it?

If everyone is supposed to leave every other religion/faith alone because it would show intolerance and be politically incorrect then I must ask why the exception is Christianity? I mean, I just think life is too short to spend huffing and puffing about how upset a faith/religion makes me because of a minute point(s). That is all.

Hey, Osteen gave an honest answer to a question asked. Good for him not dodging the question just to get along. How could he be a minister of the gospel and not stand up for what he believes? Sin has to be called by its name. And we are ALL sinners. But the good news is that we can all be forgiven in the eyes of God simply by acceptance of Jesus as our Savior.

I am surprised that this interview took place because for business strategy this has been a huge mistake.
How many Christians are now going to turn off watching this show?
What advertiser is going to risk losing customers?
What other subject matter is next? Abortion?
This attempt to sensationalize by focusing on a very sensitive subject needed a little more thought than to just throw a question out to a very well respected pastor.
I think the managment team of this show needs to reconsider the business plan if they want a show that attracts advertisment dollars.
This episode is a horrible blunder.

I admire the simple decency of Pastor Joel to answer the question to the best of his ability.

I do not admire the commentator's ambuse set up questions.

I personally have been disappointed in CNN's replacement for Larry King. CNN took its time to replace Larry - but it seems they missed the mark with a solid replacement. Mr. Morgan, I agree with Joel Osteen and he is not trying to judge other people. He is just going by what the scriptures says and God is the final judge. In Leviticus 20:13 says, If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. God loves people, but he hates sin. If it doesnt agree with the word of God then that person is not pleasing God with their life. There is so many people arent happy and thats
why they're lives are messed up. Jesus is the only way to be happy and have the peace that only comes from the lord.
Joel Osteen is just trying to show a better way of life and encourage them that God is the answer to their problems.
Everybody might not agree, but we all have a choice and I rather know Jesus .

Mr. Morgan is paid to be a jerk thats why they hired him I really don't care who is gay or not I have people I LOVE WHO ARE Gay. And I love them enough to tell them to read the bible and decide for theirselves what God thinks. And for those who do not believe in God thats your right ,but like my dad says they will all be crying out his name when their time comes. And if your not someone who loves you will.

If you are going to speak about a subject do your own research on it, don’t take another’s word. If you have read the bible you should understand that it is NOT about a religion it is about having a personal RELATIONSHIP with our creator. There are many avenues to seek out the truth…

Joel O'Steen has NO AUTHORITY TO JUDGE ANYONE and neither do I.
But, I would like to know what Joel O'Steen thinks about Matthew 19 – verse 23 AND 24
which talks about it being hard for a rich man to enter Heaven. Joel was on Larry King's show in the past saying that
GOD wants him and his family to enjoy everything they want to enjoy.

People are starving. It would be interesting to know just how much money he and his family are worth.
If you PREACH the BIBLE – WALK IT JOEL!.

Jenny I think you're misunderstanding what Joel is saying when he talks about God wanting him and others to enjoy everything they can in life. First off, we have no idea what the Osteens do with all their money (i.e. what % is given back to the church, to charities, to programs in the Houston area, to help the needy, etc.). Secondly, Joel and Victoria's messages have always been uplifting ones, messages about believing in yourself, your potential, following your dreams, turning the negative into positive. God only wants the best for all of us, he doesn't want us to suffer or struggle. He wants us to succeed, be happy and have everything and more while here, there's nothing wrong with that. It's what we do with that gift if we are blessed with it that matters ya know? Just because he makes a lot of money and lives well doesn't make him a bad Christian or one who preaches one thing but behaves another way. His actions and words have proven that he believes very strongly in the Word of God and wants to reach out to as many people as possible and show them that life can be great or get better!

There are a few things I have to say about the way Piers morgan handle this interview with Joel O'steen. That man just like everyone else in this world has their very own opinion's about life. You brought a Pastor on your show knowing full well what his belief's were and tried to make him look bad. I personal don't believe in god but I have enough respect for others and their belief's not to try and make them look bad on television. The craziest thing about what happened is that you only made your self look like a bad guy in the eyes of his followers. He is bound by his belief's to say what it is that he said, what did you think he was going to say OH GAY IS GOOD BECAUSE AMERICAN TELEVISION IS ADAPTING IT AS IT'S NEW 'BLACK'. No, that was not going to happen and you wasted precious time on this earth with such stupid questions. But television is about making people watch and you made people watch your show at the expense of your creditablity with intelligent people.

Christopher, I have so much respect for you. Even though you don't agree with the views expressed, you have the decency to respect the interviewee's right to express his own beliefs and you also have a sober view of the line of questioning and motives of the interviewer! Yours was the most intelligent response on this page! After watching this clip, I have little respect for Mr. Morgan and have absolutely NO desire to watch this particular show. Mr. Morgan needs to stay out of religion and politics! I am not the least bit impressed with his line of questioning on either front.

I enjoyed your statement cause I am so used to hearing how the church attempts to force their beliefs on the world and yet this is another example of it being done the other way around. I caught a few clips of it on TMZ as he was questioning Olsten. The Word of God does not makes excuses or apologizes for what it says no matter who it speaks of and neither should Olsten or enyone that speaks according to the Word of God. Peace to you

I HAVE ONE MORE THING TO SAY. THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT CAN BE JUDGE IS PEOPLE THAT LET OTHER PEOPLE JUDGE THEM. IF YOU LET WHAT SOMEONE ELSE SAYS ABOUT YOU AFFECT YOU THEN YOU NEED HELP. EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION LIKE EVERYONE HAS A BUTT. PEOPLE CAN ONLY GET UNDER YOUR SKIN IF YOU LET THEM, WHO CARES WHAT SOMEONE ELSE SAYS ABOUT YOU. THEY DON'T PAY YOUR BILLS, HELP YOU WITH YOUR BAGS WHEN YOUR COMING IN THE HOUSE OR SHOVEL YOUR SNOW WHEN YOUR SICK, SO WHO CARES. THATS WHATS SO WRONG WITH AMERICAN NOW A DAYS, PEOPLE CARE TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY. IF PEOPLE HAD MORE THINGS OF THEIR OWN TO ATTEND TO THEN THEY WOULD CARES LESS ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THOUGHT AND SAID. I DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IN GOD AND STILL FEEL AS IF JOEL O'STEEN HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY WHAT EVER HE WANTS. I DON'T CARE, HE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME, HE IS JUST ANOTHER PERSON OUT IN THE WORLD.

Mr. Morgan you should have asked Joel what he thought about the lawsuit against Lakewood church, his brother Paul Osteen, Leo Tyler and long time friend and staff member Johnny Mcgowan. The story is posted on courthouse news service.
Thank you for being direct with Joel and not backing down. If more peole would be more direct during their interviews with Joel Osteen the truth would be revealed. He should not be nervous about speaking on something he believes. i believe he gets nervous because he does not want to offend people so they won't stop donating and buying his books. If he stated he can't speak being blessed without speaking the other then why does he on purpose not speak the latter on his programs, because he knows people will stop sending in the money and buying his books. They just moved into a mansion worth millions.

The man has sold millions of copies of books; that is his income, not the church's so why shouldn't he live in a home that he choses with the money HE earned?? Do you allow people to tell you what to do w/ the money you earn? No. If you don't belief what he does; don't listen, don't watch, but he has helped millions of people through his delivery of the Bible. A delivery that is very non-judgemental, yet listen to all of you judge him!!! Love the sinner, hate the sin. You don't believe in sin, great, shut up and worry about things that you do believe in. If everyone has a right to believe what they want, then why is it that non-believers are the only ones that have a "right" to insult, judge, and belittle those who place their believes in God? If you don't believe, then why does some "silly book" and what it says upset you so badly? Why do you care? Joel Osteen is a blessing to many, many people. He promotes love and an abundant life through His Word. And of course there are lawsuits against Lakewood; hurting people hurt people and so they try to stop a church that is helping so many. duh

  131. Hmmm well

We are all God's children. There are so many opinions on this issue, and only persons who live that experience understand the challenges they face daily. NO one else. Most gay people struggle with this and even though a gay person does not act on his feelings, living with the knowledge is never easy. The persons who say if they could be straight they would, are expresssing what many persons struggling with this feel, because everyone wants to be accepted.
Based on the bible many preachers and other public figures have condemned this until the public finds out that they too are gay. That is because even they, with all the so-called spiritual knowledge could not be any other way. What then? As more persons all over the world 'come out' are we saying that these people should be eliminated? We need to understand this more, not just react without thinking.

He chose Osteen because of this view because he knew the wrath that would be incurred. How in the heck did he get this job? I was so surprised to find out that he was larry king's replacement. I think he bought the show–he is very wealthy and has even wealthier friends.

The topic of religious beliefs are always a sensitive subject. Whereas I am not a religious person but I think people should be allowed to believe whatever they wish; but know this, we are but specks of dust in existence, as fragile as the trees, insects, and other creatures of nature we love and so despise. As nature takes its course so shall the human race. Transforming into something greater; no longer giving birth to our extinction. We are but things of amusement, and entertainment. Our very being is to insignificant to matter, much less be judged on a scale of relevancy by a God. As you would view God to place you on a non existing pedistal because of your actions in life, you are judging and condemning someone elses. Through the looking glass we are all EQUAL, regardless of your choices or actions there is no pedistal, there will be no pedistal just different variations of beings as demonstrated on this planet.

Let me start by saying that i have friends who are Gay! Joel Osteen and his wife are not judging, they are simply spreading the word of God and the knowledge that comes from reading the bible. The Osteens are doing what God put us here to do and that is to reach out to others and spread the knowledge of God and open the door for people to want to build a relationship with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! The Osteen's are not judging, nor is it their place or that of mans and they know and understand that! God is the only one who is allowed to judge us on that final day of Judgement when we stand face to face with Him! All humans are sinful in nature and the Osteens only speak what that bible says but at the same time still show that unconditional love that Jesus tells us to show the world! No one is perfect and no one person is not a sinner.... that's the point! Otherwise they would be God, but they aren't! Only God is perfect and sin free! And it is our job to wanna be more Christ like and to show unconditional love to others and spread the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ our savior through whom we are saved and may go to heaven! I am a sinner and i have repented my sins to the Lord and continue to whenever i find myself messing up! I do not idolize the Osteens but i do like what they are giving to our world and that is something that each and every one of us God fearing and loving people should do! I say thank you to them and may God be with you both and ur family always! God Bless~ Melissa and family!!! ;-)

I absolutely agree. It is hard to hear that we are all sinners and noone likes to be told that they maybe doing something that is sinful. God simply states the truth in his word. It is never easy to swallow, at times hard to master.but fact remains SIN is SIN. Accountability will be in God's hands to pass judgement not the worlds. We will all be accountable each and everyone. I for one want to be forgiven and I can be by asking and receiving his grace and forgiveness from Jesus who died on the cross to provide me with eternal life. I walk with God in my heart now and am so happy and releived. Everyone knows in their heart of hearts what God expects and wants for/from them. Everyone gets to make their own choice, but one day God will make the final choice and he will hold each person accountable. To be covered by Jesus' grace is where I want to be in that final judgement. How about you?. God Bless everyone.

Ps. 82:6 "I have said, You are gods; and all of you are children of the most High." This Scripture CLEARY states that the righteous are to judge. To stand up for the underdog, to cry out when you see injustice. Pastor Joel, I love you, but a agree to disagree totally with you on some of your comments. "God's Best" implies that He leaves "Good", and "Better" on the table. You know without a shadow of a doubt, that there is nothing "good" or "better" or "best" about being gay or lesbian. ON the contrary, using your vernacular, being gay or lesbian is God's Worse. In fact, He calls it an "abomination", and he burned an entire city for it. Let's think about the word, "Abomination", shall we? A abhorrence, odium, disgust, horror, evil, disgrace, outrage...just to name a few. It leaves an "imprint". When people are behaving in this manner, you can usually tell by the way they speak, walk, or act. Stealing, lying, cussing, etc. are also sin, but not abominations. No "imprints", just a gut feeling that they may be hiding something. Which, btw, you wouldn't have that sense, or feeling, unless you had a personal relationship with God and His Holy Spirit to dwell in you and give you discernment. It's quite simple to get rid of sin-ALL SIN, and that is to be born again. If you are gay? Be born again. If you are a thief? Be born again. If you are a cheat? Be born again. And then there is one more thing that you must do...constantly, and that is to re-new your thoughts and mind–in the Blood saving knowledge of God and His Word and His teachings on a daily basis. Over time, your spiritual you (which is the real you) will overcome and win out over the physical you (fleshly you), and you will see your life transform. From a caterpillar to a butterfly. I love Elton John, his mate and any other sinners out there, but I, like God, hate the sin. Jesus loves you Mr. John, soooo very much. He's already proven it. God, His Father, loved you so much that He gave His 1st Son, Jesus. So, that if you simply believe in your heart and know and confess this...you'll have eternal life. He also loved you so much He gave you such a beautiful gift of singing and writing such beautiful songs. I personally invite you to accept Him and His gift of love and salvation for you, so that you can be in heaven with Him in the very near future. Don't you want to personally "Thank Him?" Wouldn't you want to hang out in eternity with the One who created you and gave you such awesome talent? I can say, as a "little god", I know for a fact, that He sure does want to see you! The fact is, He will. But if you are not saved and have had a change of heart BEFORE you meet Him, you'll be judged for your sins, and be sentenced to Hell. Seeing Him but only for a moment. However, precious one, if you hear God's heart today, through my writing, and you repent and ask Him to come into your heart to save you, on judgement day, it won't be the last time you see Him. You'll be with Him FOREVER AND EVER. Singing and playing in heaven as much as your heart's content. I sure would love to see that. So, please, join me. You and whoever is reading this and wants to be in Jesus' life forever. I am praying for you. Choose "God's Best"

"Blessed is he that is poor in spirit, there's is the kingdom of heaven". Mr. Olsteen ~ Mathew 7: 1 – is something for Joel O. to please read. We are all God's children and should not be judged by anyone. I believe that Mr. O has treaded into the wrong waters with this one by lashing out to a person like Elton John. God will be the judge of his life; not Joel or anyone else. I know that God didn't give Joel this fame and glory to do this to one person. I love the word of God and profess it every day of my life....but we cannot put people on front street like this. I hate to say this, but this particular episode could be the downfall of Mr. O's fame and followers. This is what happens when "money" becomes a synonomous word with "FAITH". Remember Mr. O – "Money is the root of all evil".......when we judge others it is evil in God's eye.

I pray for you and your family and hope that God will intervene and subdue the spirit of judgement in an open forum like this. What should be done is have a private conversation with Elton John – if you need to minister to his spirit. Wisdom is not knowing the word of God – it's living it. Let me ask you Mr. O – if Jesus was on CNN would he single out Elton John amongst 7 billion people on earth.....my spirit tells me "NOPE". Blessings

Dennis, Joel Osteen was NOT judging anyone he was stating what it says and has said for centuries in THE HOLY BIBLE. Ever heard the term "Love the Sinner hate the Sin" The whole interview was a slam trying to hang Joel Osteen and Christianity which is NO surprise. Christians are in this world and not of it. Greater is HE that is in each Christian than he that is in the world. Instead of using scripture against Joel why don't you go back and read it for yourself in the HOLY BIBLE about Sodom & Gomorrah and what GOD says about what an abomination is? Also, read the NEW Testament about the end times and how man will lay down with man, man will love money, earthquake and famine.......The HOLY BIBLE spells it out in black and white for you and has been around for centuries....

He seemed wishy washy on what he stands for but should have been firm on what he believes in.Morgan, should have interviewed Pastor Dollar to really state the case clearly. Osteen is a uplifting preacher. He doesn't want to hurt anyone. If it was Pastor Dollar it would hv told it as it is. Gay is sin. Honesstly, where it even looks crazy a man sleeping with a man, a woman sleeping w/ a woman etc. It is not normal. What do they hv to offer each other and yet have the same goods. Chances are you probably do....so if your going by the Bible then you need to go by all the items in which its states as being a SIN.... Not just the parts that you can reflect off on others.... I love Joel Osteen but think he should have stayed on the fence with his feel good message and not choose which side he wanted to be on....& we would all remain happy....or atleast the gays would have.....

Wow. I've read all of your postings and the truth is that no one wants to be corrected by anyone. Correction isn't judgement. You tell your children to stop doing things that are "wrong" because you the parent, know what is right? Are you juding your child. If your child murders someone or if someone in your family malests your son or daughter would you not think of these acts as a sin...wrong doing or dealings. Be honest.

I have a good friend who is gay and he knows that his life style is contrary to the perfect will of Christ.

God loves all people and we will all be accountable for our own actions. Correction is not judement

All said, Being Gay is declared sinful in both Old and New Testament of the Bible. It therefore has nothing to do with Shell Fish. What if people start making claims that they were born to sleep with your wife or husband and they can't help it because that is the way they were born? Won't you think they were crazy and they had a choice to refuse it? You might not like God or His Word, but Christians and even Moslems believe that it's a sin. For a man of God so resound what the bible says, he doesn't have a choice. It was a needful question and a right answer. You might not like the question or the answer, but there is little you can do about it.

When each of us dies there will be two persons standing by our death bed. One will be Jesus Christ and the other will be Lucifer.
One will point to you as you take your last breath saying"Come with me you have lived your life according to what I have taught." Jesus will take you to Heaven or Lucifier will take you to Hell.
A Christian is only trying to insure that you do go to heaven and that applies to any sinner. Hell is for eternity and Lucifer doesn't care about being POLITICALLY CORRECT. JESUS HELP US.

Pastor Osteen and his wife are suggesting that we love the sinner, not the sin. In some way each one of us has sinned today in thought, word or deed. It is not our duty to judge anyone here on Earth least we be judged. We are charged with showing the love and compassion to others that our Lord and Savior has given to us...all of us who are willing to receive it!

okay, i totally respect those who don't believe in God or His Word. it's your choice. but wouldn't it be better to believe and be wrong then not to believe and find out there was a God all this time? and not just God, but His Son, whom He sent to save us? ooohhh, wouldn't want to be in those shoes at the time of judgment. "No one comes to the Father but through Me"..

WOw.... I think do indeed find that Piers Morgan is missing Joe Osteen's point. He follows G-d therefore he follows his commandments, his teachings. He is just preaching what the word of G-d says. Its not up to Joe Osteen to be a judge, its about what the word he follows and we Christians follow. We do not hate or judge, we believe in the word (The Bible) and we try to live by it. We are not perfect, everyone has sinned and that is why Yeshua (Jesus) gave himself as a sacrifice. God loves everyone the way they are, and accepts them how they are, but he will change something in your heart that will make you convert from sin. Everyone that has a heavy past knows that this truly happens. God loves us all!

There is too little LOVE in this world! If a gay relationship is filled with LOVE, then let the one that has never felt LOVE in their heart cast the first stone. John Lennon said it best "all you need is love". Isn't that what God really wants?

I think christianity ranks as one of the most obnoxious religions. Somebody is always judging somebody else, threatening you with hell, claiming they know the word of god. If figures a used car salesman type like Osteen would have star power in such a belief system. He could sell you christians anything, because I've never known a christian to use their brain like they use their mouth. So keep watching and giving money to Mr. Blinky. I'm sure his Barbie Doll wife could use another house or expensive car. How pathetic!

    Do your home work

We want to expose the Prosperity Gospel and the Preachers who are perverting the true gospel of Christ. False teachers like Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, TBN, and many others. What is it that God says about money and the Church?

This preacher is exactly right. If you are going to believe in the bible, you can't pick and choose which parts of it you believe. This means that he must also believe in the other parts of Leviticus which state that it is okay to own slaves, to sell your daughter into slavery and that anyone who works on sunday or wears clothes with mixed fibers should be put to death.

If you're going to believe in this hogwash, you have to believe it all of it, people.

Meanwhile, he may not be here to "judge," but because of this nonsense, he very well could have pushed another another gay teenager towards suicide tonight. How Christian of him.

Again with the fault of suicide of gay people on the Christians...this really is a terrible suggestion. No one person, or religious group, is responsible for the death of a person that feels they cannot deal with the life they are living and find the only way to make things better is to end it all themselves by killing themselves. Suicide is sad and terrible, but no one's fault other than the person that did it. It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

These are not just any kind of suicides. They are suicides based on young gay men feeling judged by society. It has been a major new story this year. To suggest that a man saying being gay is a sin, isn't a factor for young gay men to feel bad is is a level of denial. Thats the problem with the idea that being gay is a choice and it's a sin. Young gay men feel overwhelmed and don't know where to turn to for love and support. It is the so called Christians who are in DENIAL about this topic. It has been scientifically PROVEN it's not a choice. And there are individuals on here that miss that whole TRUTH. There was a time when we though the world was flat.....It's time to get out of the dark age thinking that GAY isn't a natural orientation that is biologicaly based. And DA it is about anyone saying Gay is bad or a sin or wrong that stirs the public opinion and creates stress to these young gay men who can't cope. Don't you realize that at Lakewood and also watching TV are young gay men who are being told they are a SIN? All this in 2011? Really we can do better.

        January 27, 2011 at 9:24 am | Report abuse |
      • DA

I still don't buy it. Many people have the ability to not care that much about what people say about them or who they are. If these gay men are not able to deal with that then there is something bigger beyond what Christians are saying they believe. So I think instead of blaming it all on the Christians those that this issue matters most to should be trying to find out what is REALLY happening. Blaming it all on the Christians seems like a cop out to me. Those are just my thoughts.

Well I haven't committed suicide because of all the racism of society I've experienced as a Black person and that's been going on for centuries. We don't kill ourselves, we rise above it. And being Black is not a choice either.

Eating shellfish is a sin. Being born is a sin. God wants everybody to be nice to each other – that's it. That's really it. If you're an atheist, there's still no harm in being nice to one another. The rest is just semantics for people to bicker over, which is a waste of time. There are more important problems in the world than where people put their penises behind closed doors. Let's feed the entire world, and then come back to these other pointless issues.

Those three passages has nothing to do with ho-mo-s3x-uality as we know and understand it today. Romans is about pagan rituals worshiping a pagan God. In Cor. a bias translators added the word ho-mo-s3x-ual and was not part of the original text. Lev. is outdated and Christians today do not have to follow that old laws. Read the rest of that text because Christians eat shellfish now, don’t stone their children, and wear cloths made of multiple fibers. Christians are so brainwashed on this subject. Part of reading the Bible is putting it into historical context. There are churches, pastors and other Christians that have gone on record stating that it is not a sin

Everyone is a SINNER. Identifying sins is not judging someone. We all have a free will to choose to SIN or not to SIN. If you do not believe in sin, then just ignore him. If you believe in SIN great, if you do not believe in SIN that's great too. Each group should not force each other to believe what they believe. And this preacher isn't forcing you to believe what he believes.

Hatred has many faces, and smiling ones like his and hers are just more faces of evil. So disappointing, but it helps their business to make people feel guilty and to try to spend their hard earned money to try to get better. Religion is bullsh–t and so is the bible. I say this because of how many times it was re-weritten. Thinka bout it. If the bible is based on ancient sumarian text then you damn bible thumpers need to read that. Jesus goes from a baby to being 30 in a few pages. You can't ge more biased than that. Christians are hipocrits. You say gay people are sinners and that's judging someone. Why not let them be and shut the F–K up. I'm not gay but I know a few and they're not criminals or murderers yet you treat them like such by bashing them. You people make me sick. Religion is oldest form of self help. Why do people follow the ways of man from 2000 plus years ago.....? Becasue you are stupid!. There is a god and he says not to worship false idols and you worship Jesus. The Bible says by one man's disobedience (Adam's) many were made sinners (from birth). By one man's obedience, (Jesus) are all made righteous (Romans 5:18) Until one repents of their sins, and are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of their sins according to Acts 2:38, we will remain sinners. If we believe the gospel concerning the ONE and only plan of salvation that was brought, we will do as the apostles taught on the day of Pentecost when the church was born. Nothing has changed in God's word because of the times; we all still need and must repent of our sins according to Scripture. Joel Olsteen needs to repent and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of his sins, and he needs the gift of the Holy Ghost so he can be a true witness for Jesus Christ. God wants us to talk about his Son, Jesus, who died for the sins of the whole world. Things will pass away. Jesus was the Son of God, but while he walked on this earth, he didn't own anything, yet he was the richest man ever because he was rich in the Word of God, and filled with the Holy Ghost. That is why he was able to say "the prince of this world cometh and findeth nothing in me'. The Lord is coming to get his true believers and then will we all know who they are.

Piers is just one example of what has happened to journalism. What happened to reporting the news and events of the world from a neutral standpoint? It's become more about entertainment and ratings, not journalism. Journalism reports the events as they are, American news organizations report the story, tell you their opinion as to why it happened, and who should be blamed, and in a lot of cases, how we should feel about it. I miss real journalism. Blame the politicians all you want, but today's journalists' hands are no cleaner when we talk about things like racial tensions, mall shootings, and name calling. The louder you scream and the nastier you call names, the faster CNN sticks a microphone in your fact.

Here's the jest of everything. We as Christians have the tendency to make others feel that if they aren't Christians we are better than them and how dare they do what they do. First remember we were once sinners, but we are now sinners saved by grace. Secondly, if we want to win anyone to Christ it must start w/love and compassion. NOT judgment. Yes, Pastor Osteen is right. I don't have to judge sin God has already judged it. What my job as a Christian is to tell you about His love and introduce you to Him. To warn you of the tricks of the enemy, but we have to keep in mind that we are trying to get people who do not understand spiritual things to understand the spiritual world. That's like talking to someone in Spanish who only speaks English. Just keep in mind that we love the sinner and hate the sin.

Piers is right when he says that an addiction to drugs or alcohol is vastly different than being gay. Most (who are NOT gay) believe that being gay iis a choice. My best friend once said to me, "If this is a choice, why on earth would I choose to be an outcast & go against the majority? I wouldn't and I have to be who God made me to be." I love Joel Osteen & this is a point I simply do not agree with him on though I appreciate that he admits that he is not a judge. He refers to the scripture constantly but can't actually quote any of it and he ignores much of it in the statements he makes. You don't need to bash people, I agree that much, but you do need conviction in your life. He's all about keeping people comfortable no matter how they live to keep the money rolling in. I like how he also always justifies being wealthy. I don't hate him for being wealthy. There is a lot of good people can do with their wealth and I don't know enough about him to know what he does do with his wealth. I do know that when a rich man asked Jesus what he needed to do to follow him Jesus told him to get rid of all of everything and come follow him...the man didn't want to get rid of his riches and there for didn't follow Jesus because the material was more important. That of course doesn't mean to say that people need to get rid of everything they have but if you do not realize how much it doesn't really matter in the end then you have a problem.

It's so sad to see some of the responses on here. Why is America in the shape that it's in? Well it's simple quite frankly. America was founded on God and godly priciples taken from the Bible. When does america respect and call on God? Well that's when it's in trouble, then we see all kinds of signs that say God bless america. Well it's time to reverse that, and say America bless God. America has turned it's back on God. Revelation says in chapter 3 verse 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

I'm tired of these fake Christains running around acting all high and mighty, and their just as goofy (or worst) then the rest of us. That's not being a good Christian. A Pastor's job is guide me to God, teach me the scripture, not hold sway over how I live my life. Some of those preachers aren't living a good life themselves. This Religious Revolution is a farce right now. We want bibles in our schools, but we act like there was never a good book in our own homes. Home is where it starts.

Christians follow the way of Christ. This is taught in the Bible, which Christians believe is the Word of God. If you do not believe this, or want to follow this way, then you are not a Christian – a follower of Christ. You can be any religion you want or no religion at all, but Christians follow Christ and His teachings.

I think Joel can be somewhat fake at times... and although he is trying his best to show the loving side of God... God is nothing but fake or lighthearted. I think it's awesome that Joel teaches about blessings but in all honesty, the Bible talks about trials and tribulations as a believer too. God never said that we were all meant to be rich although I do think that after a time of trials, prosperity (in whatever sense that means in your life) is something God is for. If God is for us, who can be against us. Anyways... God is a God of love and GRACE.... sinner or no sinner (and we all are sinners)... everyone has fallen short of the glory of God... God/Jesus want everyone to go to heaven and live forever. I guess, evcen Joel Osteen isn't perfect :)

God made the world and as owner and creator He has the right to say how He wants His creation to live and conduct themselves. Everyone makes a moral choice when they sin per the Bible.Men loved the darkness because their deeds were evil. Good news is that Jesus is the propitiation for our sin and we can have peace with God through faith.

Why do people argue so over this? Believe what you will. I believe in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, maybe you don't. You can talk about your beliefs and I'll talk about mine. People judge others every day on some issue or another. I try not to, but I'm human, so are you. We hurt and abuse each other with words in all our lives. God gives me the strength and grace to not do grievous harm to any human being and I give thanks for that. I do sin though, everyday of my life. But I depend on Him to forgive. Now, tell me about your faith.

The Bible was written 300 years AFTER these so called events happened.... Some truth, some not. I don't believe Joel judges BUT I think it's irresponsible for him to call being gay a sin. I'm gay. I believe in God. I didn't ask to be gay. I was BORN gay. I liked listening Joel for his positive message. I won't listen now because I don't feel supported or loved which is what he claims to bring to people. This makes me sad. I thought Joel truly had a better view, more balanced.

Hey Carol.... don't be upset. We are all sinners. If Joel was asked about murderers he'd say they were sinners, adulterers – sinners etc etc.... he's not judging he's just stating what is said in The Bible. He even said that he's not here to judge, The Bible does that for us – The Word Of God judges us. Peace.

Think on what you're saying. You are implying that being gay is on par with being a murderer, etc. True, the Bible has a long, long list of things that are considered worthy of the death penalty, including the command to put rebellious children to death (Deuteronomy 21:18-21). The point is that we are ALL sinners, including Joe Olsteen., We are filthy rags, so to speak, and are only worthy of salvation because Christ has paid the price.. But we're still sinners, redeemed sinners, that is.

I would like to explain what people refer to as “The Gospel” or “Good News”. In this explanation, I will discuss God’s grace, which unfortunately so many people do not understand or have never been clearly explained.

Unfortunately, many people attend a Christian church regularly (or attended one in the past) but have never been clearly taught what the Bible stresses as the most important decision that one could ever make. It is only in making this decision that one actually becomes one of God’s children and is “saved” from His eternal judgment. This decision deals with what is referred to as “The Gospel”. If you have never heard “The Gospel” before, here it is. Around 33 AD, Jesus Christ, who is God incarnate, paid the price for every single person’s sin in history by dying the death of crucifixion at the hands of the Romans. He willingly died for every person’s sin that has ever lived and every will live. That includes both you and me. He willing died a death that we deserve for our moral failures in life. Jesus was brutally beaten, whipped, mocked, spit upon, nailed to a wooden cross, and then died. Three days later, He rose from the dead, as He foretold His disciples (group of followers). Jesus then ascended into heaven forty days later. He currently lives with God, His father, in heaven today. During Old Testament times (times prior to the birth of Jesus Christ – B.C.), people had a keen awareness of their moral guilt, as any honest person still does today. I know that I have wronged many people and have felt a deep-seated guilt within many areas of my life. Many people during Old Testament times sacrificed animals to God as a form of limited atonement for their immoral actions. God often accepted these sacrifices, but only in a temporary and limited way. Over time, God changed this extremely limited form of atonement, as He had planned from the very beginning of time. Moreover, God sent His one and only son Jesus Christ down to the Earth. Since Jesus was both sinless and blameless, He willingly died on the cross as an unlimited atonement. It was in God’s will for His son to die in this way. This unlimited atonement is available to any person who whole-heartedly repents of their sins (moral failures) and then asks God to personally apply Jesus’ undeserved death and resurrection as a payment for their sins. It is imperative here that one believes the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was ultimately an act of God’s grace. God did not have to offer an escape from our moral guilt and eternal punishment. However, God is gracious. He has a compassion and love for people that is indescribable. God wants to “wipe the slate” clean for us, in regards to our moral failures. Through this action, we could then enter a personal relationship with His son Jesus Christ and escape his eternal judgment. The Bible refers to moral failures as ‘sin’, or missing the mark of God’s perfect standard of morality. “Sin” is an ancient archery term for an arrow that missed the target. God is loving in the purest sense of the word and would like to grant us victory over the sins that still haunt us from our past. All we have to do is accept this gift of grace from Him. It is free.

God promises us a way to become morally blameless and gain entrance into heaven after living our physical live here on Earth. Here is what we must willingly do on our part. First off, we must truly believe that God is gracious and extended His grace by allowing His one and only son to die as a ransom for our sins on the cross. We must admit to God that we have failed morally during our lifetime and that Jesus Christ’s brutal death on the cross is the only sacrifice that could ever forgive our sins. After making this decision (accepting God’s grace), we are immediately forgiven of all past, present, and future sins. In addition, we would be guaranteed entrance into heaven after our physical death here on Earth. We would then live with both God and His son Jesus forever. We would be guaranteed to see all of our loved ones who had made this decision during his or her physical lives on Earth.

You could make this decision today. Please do not wait for the “perfect time”. You could ask God for eternal forgiveness through applying the death and resurrection of Jesus to your life within the quietness of your bedroom tonight. This is the most important decision that you will ever make.

So you might be asking, “Where in the Bible does it explain what has just been summarized?” Here are some passages clearly stating that Jesus seeks a personal relationship with us:

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
    – Romans 10:9-10

"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; “
    – Acts 3:19

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
    – John 3:16

As long as you repent of your past sins (moral failures) from the heart, confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and apply Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection on the cross as a payment for your sins, you are guaranteed eternal life with God in heaven. You can make this decision at any time, anywhere. You can make this decision alone with God or within a group setting.

Please know that one cannot sit the fence on making this decision of accepting God’s gift of grace. If one chooses not to decide, he or she has still made a choice. This would be like receiving a check (hearing “The Gospel”) but never endorsing and cashing it in at the bank (personally applying Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection towards one’s sins).

“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
    – John 3:18

The result of not choosing to accept Gods gift of grace, which offers eternal life with both Him and Jesus in heaven is clear. You will live the remainder of your life here on Earth apart from Jesus Christ and His empowerment. You will then follow your life plan and not His plan for you. After you physically die, you will then be brought to a dark place where there is “weeping and gnashing of teeth”. It is a place of eternal regret. Here, you will remember this very letter and how you were told the truth but chose not to repent and begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Remember, if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. You could be diagnosed with a terminal illness tomorrow or be the recipient of a head-on collision while returning home on that all too familiar, two-lane highway this Friday night. If you are considering starting your personal relationship with Jesus Christ, please do not wait to make this decision. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

The following passage outlines the only requirements Jesus Christ has set to both gain eternal life and begin a personal relationship with Him while you are still alive here on Earth. He makes it crystal-clear in the Bible what is required…

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
    – Romans 10:9-10

God has a plan for your life. You can watch this plan unfold once you accept His gift of grace. This great plan involves your life experience while here on Earth and continues after your physical death on into heaven.

“For I know the plans that I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
    – Jeremiah 29:11-13

Please consider what I have said here. I am not sure if you have ever made this decision before, but I needed to make sure that you had the facts. If you should decide that you want to learn more about the life of Jesus and gain a better understanding of authentic Christianity, I strongly recommend reading the book of John within the Bible (NASB or NIV translation).

In closing, here is a verse that someone once shared with me that finally brought me into a relationship with God during an extremely low point physically and emotionally. The understanding of Jesus’ desire to know me personally changed my life forever. Here it is:

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”
    – Revelation 3:20

Paul. I have a comment for you. First, let me say that I know the Bible well. I would like to read it every day but I don't. However, when I do, before I do, I pray for understanding. In addition, just like Solomon’s wish. I believe God says yes to that one every time someone asks. So as I begin to read I realized I should probably get a pen and paper out so I can keep track of any mistakes, miss quotes, what have you. After carefully reading. Word for word skipped none. Here's what I got down on paper. A pen advertising RAMADA INN on its side. Don’t know where I got that. And a cap on the end that I never had to take off. Very well done. Just wanted to say thank you. And that it’s comforting to know that even in this new type of media. The Great Commission is right there with it. Step for step. God bless you my friend.
Oh, wait one question. In your younger days. You didn't by any chance go by the name of Saul did ya? Your Brother in Christ. Greg

Let's make it simple, God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. God is a forgiving God and will forgive all sins, but can a gay person drop to their knees and ask God to forgive them for being Gay??? Ummmm...No, but if they choose to change their life and then go to him then he will. Im not judging anyone, but I really hate the agenda that is being pushed, everytime you turn on the television you see it, so now I have to explain to my children why that has happen. I think its real sad that people don't understand that the devil is winning, his ultimate plan is to kill and destroy, and by allowing him to put his demonic spirtuality into your thoughts by allowing him to make you believe something that's not TRUE! All I'm sayin is as human beings we were made to reproduce, I'm sorry two men can't do that together and two women cant do that together. Hmmmmmm...so does that mean that if we all turn gay the human race would be

GOING TO HELL IS A CHOICE. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE TRUTH, THEN ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT, YOU CAN'T SAY "I DIDN'T KNOW." IT WILL BE TOO LATE.

THE MAN IS TELLING YOU THAT BEING GAY IS A SIN. & YOU KNOW IT'S A SIN. YES, IT MAY NOT BE YOUR FAULT, MAYBE SOMEONE ABUSED YOU, OR YOU WERE BORN FEELING LIKE YOU SHOULD BE SOMEONE ELSE. HOWEVER, JESUS CHRIST CAN HEAL YOU OF ALL OF YOUR ISSUES. AND DON'T TAKE THAT PERSONAL, WE WE'RE ALL BORN WITH ISSUES!

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LISTEN, THAT'S YOUR CHOICE. YOU CAN CONTINUE TO LIVE AN UNFULFILLED LIFE, AND GO TO HELL WHEN YOU DIE. I SAY THIS IN LOVE, BUT HELL IS A CHOICE.

To begin with.......No one on this Earth at this particular time was alive way back then......Also there is "NO" record of Christ or God...writing in this book everyone seems to derive joy out of quoting from....Also do you when looking for something to quote.....overlook all the things you are doing wrong............Also.....I very much believe in Jesus ....I also believe that if he were here at this time ...He'd shut all of you hater's up by marring me & my partner himself.....People need to start worrying about their own lives & their own sins before even beginning to tell anyone else what they or how they are allowed to live.... Her is a quote for all of you....."I'm not in this world to live up to your expectations and you're not in this world to live up to mine". One simple sentence everyone should be living by !!!!

Joel is not a preacher he is a teacher. He said it himself that he did not go to sem school. When his daddy died joel deicided to step in and be the preacher for Lakewood Church in Houston Tx. Now he is seen all over the world he even sells tickets in different states to be heard and thats ok for him but not right the WORD OF GOD is free to those who will read it and hear it. But you can't hear it if it's not being preached. But Joel has let fame go to his head. His dad was a preacher never did it to be on tv just want people to know God. Joel hardly talks about sin and never talks about hell. Joel as a "preacher" will be held accountable for alot of people going to hell because he never spoke of it and alot of people thought all they had to do was repeat a prayer but not change the way they are living. Many people love Joel because he makes them feel good about themselves. The Bible is to be preached word for word so that there will be no mistaken on what it takes to enter heaven and how to escape the gates of hell. GOD did say "don't be fooled by false teachers."

Its like you learn my thoughts! You seem to understand so much about this, like you wrote the guide in it or something. I feel that you can do with a few percent to drive the message home a little bit, however other than that, that is great blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.

No my friend God is not dead and you will surely see soon enough...as for all versions of the Bible I must say the authorized King James is the only one all others try to copy but like the NIV they continue to take out scripture and change when it clearly states one should not add to or take away!!! God Bless

According to the Bible we are ALL sinners (and we can be saved by grace.)
