Dan Rather: Mubarak 'has been great for the U.S...but wasn't great for his own people'

HDNet's Dan Rather was a guest on "Piers Morgan Tonight" last night, and told Piers Morgan about his past interviews with Pres. Hosni Mubarak and more.

Rather described Mubarak as "very modest" when he first met him. But, "his regime, no question, has become one of greed." He continued:

He's been great for the United States, but as the years wore on, he wasn't great for his own people. This is a bottom up revolution, a revolution made for the young. This was made for the young people of Egypt. Now, they will soon taste the fruit of their actions, whether it will be bitter, sweet or something in between.

Also, here's Piers' exclusive interview with exiled Iranian Prince Reza Pahlavi:

Pierce Morgan, unfortunately my first commentary was deleted so now I have reconstructed it...Last night as you closed your show you said "Let's hope we don't here anymore "Meely mouthed comments from the Whitehouse." or words to that affect. Moreover you recovered by hiding behind these words, "I am proud to be a part of CNN," again words to that affect. Before you so hastily allow your ego to overload your mouth you should review the commentary and opinion expressed by most of the people interviewed during the day by the CNN news team, the majority of which gave the President or White House good marks on handling this dangerous crisis. In addition Dan Rather in between your ask a question and then interrupt style stated that President Obama's Cairo speech during the summer of his 1st year in office, gave way for the current actions in Cairo, a comment you let stand without giving a meaningful perspective on that timeline and how necessary that speech was if international realations for the United
States were ever to imporve from eight years of a pseudo government under Bush and his crowd. Not to mention that we still had 150K troops in Iraq at the time and in harms way. If the President had rennounced Mubarack at any point, during this last week and even now, then the entire Middle East would be teeter tottering on disaster and you and your so called objective reporting would have been saying his Administration was way out infront of this crisis and being reckless? Actually I wanted to comment a bit more but you probably won't ever see this. I did, unlike you, spent sometime reading about your distinguished carreer and what appears to be a somewhat strong and stellar effort, still before you feel so confident that you can call the President and his administrations efforts "meely mouthed," you should apply for U.S. Citizenship, that would make things a bit more palpable when you make your trite egoic remarks. B.P.

What moal rights does MUBARAK have to continue to be in power after 30 years in office. He should step aside to avoid war in Egypt.

Piers, we like your new show, but you really turned us off last night with your constant interrupting of Dan Rather. How rude of you to not let him finish a sentence and you cut him off at the very end when he was trying to get a point across. I thougt Dan Rather handled it pretty well.

I have never seen such a weak interview and you have ALL the top people. As Oprah said nicely, well your surpising, wasn't a compliment.... and Howard Stern and EVERYONE else, but you have a 3 yr contract I believe so SOMEONE has to watch your show... Really bad....I gave you the time to break in and not make a judgement but this is what you should pick up at the grocery store tabloid while on line then put it back with not intention to buy, smug and BORING.... I'm sure cnn Is regretting this.............

    Mr. Morgan,
Kindly allow us the full response of your guests. These people are interesting, informed, and have invaluable experiences.
It will make you a so much better interviewer, we want to hear them. No need to be shown that you are very smart with rapid fire questions. RELAX. ENJOY YOUR GUESTS and we will accompany you on the insightful journey. Allow Dan Rather back and treat him respectfully. He was very gracious on air, better than his younger years. You're off to a
great start, just remember you're not the only person in the room....there's your guest and all of us watching...make room.

I really hope Piers Morgan is only a placeholder for something better that CNN has for Larry King's time slot. Morgan's interview style and journalistic interview skills are horrible and irritating. It became more obvious during his so-called interview of Dan Rather - a genuine journalist and interviewer. I will have to find something better to watch until this wanna'be interviewer leaves. Hopefully, CNN won't experiment with another Cartoon Network style interview show.
Hey, how about enticing Mr. Rather for a hard-hitting and insightful interview show in Larry King's old time slot?

I agree with several other commenters that Morgan interrupts his guests so often that I want to change the channel, which I do. At least Larry King listened first....Piers is not qualified for this job....case in point, the twin brothers who accused Facebook supposed founder of stealing their idea. He, Morgan, is in over his head....way, over.

This interview was so disrespectful of Dan Rather's experience. Mr. Morgan's interview style seems to be let me ask you a question and then cut you off when you start to answer. It was horrible to watch and I wanted to apologize to Mr. Rather for it. He has experience with Mr. Mubarak and might give some insight into the man. But we sure didn't get it from the half a word Mr. Rather was allowed to say. Did Mr. Morgan have too much coffee before this or what? The perfect interviewer is someone who lets his guests speak.

Mr. Piers Morgan,,, Tony Blair is a complete MORON, and if I were you I would have never interviewed him. He is such a show off loser.

I didn't see "rudeness" at all in the Dan Rather interview. I thought it was a very good interview. It was obviously time to stop, so that's why the interview had to "stop." It ran almost to the hour; only 2 mins til time for the show to end when Piers cut it off. I've enjoyed all the interviews I've watched so far with the exception of Howard Stern~~~now that was a rude & crude guest!

Piers, you should probe more into Rather's comment about Mubarak's wife, Suzanne, as the power behind the throne. What's going on there? I'm sorry you didn't ask Dan for more info ... how can a 'modest, humble' man 30 years ago become the brutal dictator of today? What is his wife's role? She is an unelected official (not that he is) and what is her impact? Dig deeper, dude. Stir the pot.
