Arianna Huffington on jobs in America: "Never had that sense of urgency around job growth"

One of the most powerful women in media, Arianna Huffington, is a guest on "Piers Morgan Tonight" this evening, and she talks about the 2012 GOP candidates, how AOL-Huffington Post is doing and more. She also talks jobs. "You never had that sense of urgency around job growth and the middle class," she tells Piers Morgan.

She drew a comparison to the response to Hurricane Irene: "If we had Hurricane Jobs, if we had recognition that the job crisis has brought enormous devastation in the lives of millions, and we need to come together collectively – in our neighborhoods, in our communities, at the local, state and federal level – and really solve it, everything would be transformed." Watch the full interview tonight at 9pmET/PT – also on the show, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Every life experience velaes a lesson behind. It isn't necessarily clear what that lesson is. Maybe the lesson is, proceed with caution! The person in this experience was your giant yellow light of love.

Indeed: It is noteworthy that during times of crisis or impeding disaster, the country bands together as one to overcome a larger foe and pray for everyone’s safety. Well, we have plenty of chronic crises and impending disasters in this country and indeed the world — unemployment, violence, hunger, preventable illness and suffering, to name a few — what a difference the media could make if it attempted to address those issues with the same intensity as the storm coverage?

How many more disasters do we need to bring us together? When will we come together just because it is in our best interests to do so?

      Excellent point and well stated.

Unfortunately all NON public donated networks are owned by corporate America and I am sure many of the issues you described would not be acceptable to their point of view. Most Unfortunate for Americans

The Investment Firms/Banks have paid us back with interest. I am not a big fan of the way they operate with bonus payments to management either but it was a good investment and saved us from Armageddon.

When is this going to be communicated? Do a thorough job. Terrible.

Please don't be offended Piers & Arianna but I always find it very amusing to hear multi-millionaires muse about the middle-class. The loss of manufacturing jobs and the rich running the country are just two of the many reasons for the sharp decline of the middle class and thus the disaster we are now facing.
Comments: We used to make many things now we make very little.
Only those candidates with millions of $$'s suceed the election process.
Which is why they used taxpayer money to bail out Wall St because it directly effected their large portfolios.
I wonder what kind of answers the media would publish if they actually talked to middle-class/working people and their families?

One of the easiest ways everyone in america can create jobs in America. Before you buy anything, ask a manager, send an email or leave a comment asking if it was made in America and that you'd be willing to pay more for products made in America. We can't compete on labor costs alone because we'll make it up with higher productivity, i.e. fewer people.

Check the numbers! We have allowed millions of jobs to go overseas to lower cost nations. Reduce the US mandated minimum wage by 15%, tighten the limits on unemplyment so that it is more bebeficial to work than stay home and we will find that suddenly companies can afford to bring back about 20% of those jobs. Wake up people.

Cut back the minimum wage 15% after it took TEN LONG STINKING years to get it raised from a lousy $5.50 an hour??? Ralph, I'm sure you are NOT making minimum wage. Why when the big corporate CEO's are now making TWO THOUSAND times more than their lowest paid employees should they have to take a cut in pay? The owners and stock holders are just getting greedier and greedier. It's sick and they will not bring back the jobs when they can pay someone $5.00 a day, NO benefits, and absolutely environmntal restrictions! Why don't you demand that the companies stop paying billions of dollars to our elected officials to allow them to pay NO taxes, put their money in off-shore accounts and poison our planet? This country and it's citizens made them rich, they should act like patriots and start creating jobs when so many people here are suffering.

Wonderful Piers! Having Gov. Scott Walker from Wisconsin on tonight and discussing things that may be controversial for him. Now PLEASE Piers, bring our Governor of the Great State of Florida.....Governor RICK SCOTT on the show. Ask that man where all the jobs he PROMISED are? What does Gov. Scott really do on the job all day and what are his thoughts of the homeless in Florida and the jobless and the hungry??? Because the real Floridian honestly doesn't know Piers. We only know what we read about him in the paper like he gives out donuts in a donut shop in a "meet and greet"....but that doesn't help the poor and the hungry who are our neighbors. Thank you so much for all you do. Peace.

The Scott Walker interview was a wasted opportunity and poor job on Morgan's part. He should have asked why Walker only targeted unions opposed to his election and let his public safety supporters off scot free. In any unions should not be allowed to strike, it's police and free. And when will interviewers challenge the lie that corporate taxes in the U.S. are the second highest in the world? That's based on the statutory rate and few if any corporations pay that rate. Many, in fact, pay zero. Long time before I watch this show again.

    Morgan,
As a fellow Brit. Last time I checked you weren't a US citizen. So say it like it is and stop being a CREEP and using the word "WE" whenever you talk about Americas problems. Don't you have enough back bone to back up your talk. You certainly don't seem to hold back when you talk about Football in the Daily Mail. Stop Americans from thinking the rest of the World goes along with all the BS.

Piers Morgan, stop putting down Obama. Are you an American officially yet? Were you here when George W and his three stooges cheated to get into office, lied, stole and killed to "lead" this country? Keep interviewing crazy Republicans, I can't stand your so over the top conservative Catholic views. You can be a Republican and a Catholic, I just don't want to hear about it on national american tv.

The problem is simple people like Steve Jobs is making billions and has more cash on hand then the Federal Government, because he created a few thousand jobs here in the US, and created millions of jobs in China, and in the mean time gave away the technology and is pocketing the cash. A job in the USA is currently fully deductable from the the gross to create a job in the US. The corporations are getting more greedy everyday. The companies will probably hold the monies not paid on payroll taxes and reduce the employee's overall pay. The airlines have already given the example. If you are self-employed you do not get to deduct 100% of your Salery from your gross.

well, you're right, he's a clown, but typical of the media types who are less isttreneed in learning something than in having a debate using the old, hackneyed terms of reference. for instance, i'll bet morgan doesn't even know what paul means by sound monetary policy, and yet he couldn't be bothered to ask paul to explain what he means by that.

Piers, you werefar too easy on Gov. Walker. You let him go on and on about the money from the left that poured in and failed to even ask about the millions that flowed to Walker from the Koch brothers. What about the phone call that Walker thought was from David Koch in which he (Walker) spent 20 minutes sucking up? Where were those sharp questions Piers is so capable of?

I listened tonight as you and Ariana ask why we don't all come together to solve the jobs problem. This administration had all the power for 2 years and tried to ram through their jobs program over the protests of the GOP. Now you know why........none of it solved the problem! Even coming together, is irrelavent if you're gonna head off in the wrong direction!! Another test of Keynesian economics gone amok. We need a knowledgeable administration.
