Jason Baldwin of the West Memphis Three on celebrity support: "It was very uplifting"

Tonight Piers Morgan sits down with Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols, two of the West Memphis three, who were set free last month after more than 18 years behind bars. After HBO's "Paradise Lost" documented their trials and tribulations several celebrities including Johnny Depp and Natalie Maines got involved in the cause to fight for the freedom of the West Memphis Three. "It was very uplifiting," Baldwin says. "So for us on the inside it was amazing."

Echols also talks about contemplating suicide. He says, "the pressure was so great that for a moment I lost all hope." Tune in tonight at 9pm ET for the full, emotional interview.

I agree. I find Morgan to be extremely annoying. I wish they could find someone better to do the interviews like Anderson Cooper or Barbara Walters or Oprah Winfrey. And unfortunately, my mom thinks your ugly. Sorry Morgan.

    • Evidence the three were guilty

Let's hear from the prosecutors and the parents that believe the three did this. Where is their side of the story?

Misskelley confessed THREE times, the third time in front of his lawyer voluntarily. Echols bragged about the crime or told others FOUR times before he was arrested. Baldwin told another person he committed the crime.

Echols had a long history of severe violence and mental illness. Police reports and court testimony report he brutally murdered a dog, threatened to kill himself and his parents, lit fires, hurt himself and had many psychotic delusions, being hospitalized several times due to mental illness. Where is this side of the story? wm3truth com

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. So before you post maybe do a little more research. Everyone one of Misskelleys "confessions" were different. He has an IQ of 70 and was held illegally by police. He was a scared kid. Jason Baldwin never has admitted to the killings. Damien echols was a troubled kid who was naive and thought the truth would come out.

I think those who post that these 3 kids could be even remotely guilty for these crimes have not researched the issue enough. I have been in the middle of this issue since its inception and the kids are innocent. "Alford plea's" often results in the case being continued without a decision and is later dismissed. If, after the amount of money our state of AR has paid out in the trial and surrounding events, they had concrete proof that they were guilty...I do not believe the Judges would not have been so quick to agree to an Alford plea. I mean Seriously, the story before putting both feet in your big mouth!

Thank you for having Damien and Jason on your program. The injustice they have suffered is beyond my ability to imagine. They are so obviously innocent. I don't know how they survived and can now be so free of bitterness. I'm thrilled that they are finally out of prison, and I hope someday they can completely exonerate their names. They are terrific people, and so is Damien's wife. Give them all a huge thumbs up from this viewer. Please repeat this show on the weekend. Thanks, Piers.

The handlers of Damien Echols likely wouldn't let him speak because he suffers from SCHIZOPHRENIA AND BIPOLAR DISORDER. Damien would scare the life out of people if he got off topic about started talking about his delusions.

Why do you say that when you return from the commercial break you will ask the following question and then you don't?
You did this several times during this interview and it was very frustrating because you introduce questions that viewers NOW want an answer to and never received the answer. This seems to be a pattern in your interviewing.

Can you ask the question and then silence yourself so that the interviewee has a chance to answer the question before the next commercial break? Tonight you spoke more than your three guests.

Mr Moore, I'm so sorry about the loss of your son, Michael. He looked like such a sweet little boy. The interview with you and Dana in "Paradise Lost" just broke my heart.

I've studied this case fairly extensively and I'm still on the fence as to the guilt or innocence of the "three." However, It disgusts me that the media simply parrots the supporter's spiel of "Jesse was retarded, Damion was misunderstood, everyone was lying, blah, blah, blah..." Just ONCE, I would like to see someone in the media take a serious look at both sides of this case.

My point in writing this is to let you know that there are people out there listening to you and the other "nons." I can't tell you the number of times I've watched a WM3 interview or story and come away from it thinking "wow, they ARE innocent." But then, I dig a little deeper, read some info from the other side, and I have doubts.

I wish Piers Morgan would have dug a bit deeper. This show was ridiclously shallow and one-sided.

A serious look at the evidence has been taken ..over and over. That is why these men have been released. Do you really believe that the state of Arkansas would let these men out if they thought they were actually guilty of this crime? Wake up! What you and Mr. Moore are upset about is that you are not getting the answers you want and expect. And you will cry foul until you hear what you want to hear. Unfortunately what you want to hear isn't the truth. The truth is that the state of Arkansas convicted the wrong people. If you and Mr. Moore want justice for those sweet boys who lost their lives, you need to direct your anger at the state of Arkansas and get them to reopen this case and find who did this and bring them to justice. Anything else fails those three young boys.

      Mr Moore,

It would be wonderful if you would be willing to go on any talk show of your choice to discuss this case. We always complain that the only side of the story that's ever told is the side of the West Memphis Three. You are passionate about this case and you are well-read on the details. Would you consider telling your side of the story? If the talk show person treated you unfairly, it would be there for everyone to see.

Please consider it! The other side needs a voice.

I've followed this story for a while. I can't forget how tragic it is that the three little boys were murdered, and then these innocent young men endured 18 years in prison – a double tragedy. It is amazing to hear how grounded these men are now. I am sure they will be affected for the remainder of thier lives. I wish them all the best to go on and heal. They have much they can teach us. This case forces us to think about the death penalty. I don't think I could live with ending another person's life even as a member of a jury.

  9. Misskelley confessed three separate times

Misskelley confessed three separate times, once with his lawyer present. Misskelley also told two other people about the crime before he was arrested. Baldwin told someone else he committed the crimes. Echols was seen in muddy clothes near the crime scene. He bragged about the murder to two other teenagers, stating he killed the three boys. Echols is reported to have either told or bragged about the crime to four people before he was arrested. Echols also had a history of psychiatric treatment. His reported actions included brutally killing a dog, starting fires at his school, threatening to kill his teachers and parents and stating he liked to drink blood.

Don't forget that Damien also threatened to kill his parents and they were so frightened by him that they kicked him out of their house. He sharpened his fingernails to points and tried to gouge out another person's eyeballs. Also, Damien Echols taunted the families of the deceased children by blowing them kisses inside and outside the courthouse.

Really? Really? Um, where are you getting your information? The girls that told that Damien was admitting to doing the murder's has since came forward and said it was a lie, and as for Jessie's confession, it was all done illegally as it could have been. No parent present while questioning, only a portion of the interrogation was taped which is also a BIG NO NO, and everytime Jessie gave an answer they coerced him into changing his mind on the time of day etc.... He was scared and wanted to go home and they told him if he told then they would let him go see his if you have a 5 year old's way of thinking you would hvae done the same thing too. Showing him pictures of the murdered boys and tramatizing him the entire 16+ hours may have also taken a toll on him..... But as for Damien Drinking blood, you need to read the real evidence in this case, and possibly some of the books about the case before you go spouting off untrue statements.. Seriously

Everyone should check out the website that Todd Moore is proud to be a member of - Piers/CNN workers, please take special note of the "Media" section of the board. Mr. Moore posts as "mikespadre" there, and he's said some pretty astonishing things there about his desire to murder these men.

It's a very interesting, very disturbing window into the twisted, ignorant mentality of the non-supporters, who are led by Todd Moore. Mr. Moore, I'm very sorry for your loss, but maybe you should think twice before you post comments on there about your desire to harm others. Jason confessed to a man who passed a polygraph about hearing this confession. Damien BRAGGED that he killed these little boys in front of others and they testified to hearing him brag about this.

All three murderers confessed. Two separate juries found all three murderers guilty. Eighteen years later those guilty verdicts were vacated so that the three murderers could plead guilty voluntarily.

Was this used as evidence anywhere? i mean jessie's confession was only used to convict him... these other "confessions" were used no where. Give me a break. Everyone knew they were BS. Yes people lied. People exaggerated the truth. These are facts. People walked away from this case thinking they helped get justice. The problem is when they had to sleep at night as they got older they realized that they basically lied and got three innocent men convicted of murder.

Piers, I would like to educate you about the term Mental Retardation. This term is offensive to many people in this country who have intellecutal and/or developmental disabilities. The federal government and many states in this country no longer use this term.

I, sincerely, hope that I am never wrongly accused of a crime and have to defend myself in front of a jury of many of you. You seem to have no concept of physical evidence, due process, or presumption of innocence. Perhaps you should add some legal books to your wish list and familiarize yourself with what is considered legitimate proof of guilt.

I don't know for sure if these three are guilty, but rest assured that the Lord does know the truth. He deals with people in his own way and how is not for us to say. If they are innocent, then he will allow them to live peaceful and productive lives, but if they are guilty, he will not let them rest for the rest of their lives. We can watch and listen as they go forward in life and see for ourselves their innocence or guilt. Their actions, from this day forward, will prove much to all of us. I feel sorrow for the parents of the three young cub scouts and hope that they can forgive, for they themselves may not enter the gates of Heaven unless they forgive them one day. Several years ago, I got the opportunity to sit down and talk with Damien's mother and sister face to face. I asked the question, "Do you believe that Damien committed this crime and how do you know for sure that he is innocent. His sister told me that there was no way that he could be guilty, because he was at home with her that night talking on the phone to some girl. His mother told me that she was with him at times during that night also. They were sincere in their statements and I could see it in their faces. Damien's mother is very ill right now and may not make it. I do know that she loves him very much. She told me that she only got to see him once a year while he was in prison. She has had a very hard life and has suffered rejection from lots of people because of this case and I don't see that as fair. She is not the one accused, but people are very hateful and hurtful and have no sympathy for the innocent mother of an accused killer. We can debate forever, but we will never know the truth unless it is proven without a shadow of a doubt. So I say, let them do what they have to do to clear their names and if they do, we will all know the truth. Good Luck WM3 with your quest to prove your innocence and I pray that you do. May God bless all of you.

I think it's sad that there are still this "little tiny" handful of people spouting all of this hatred about these three INNOCENT men. I KNOW this case inside and out. I HAVE studied ALL evidence, listened to ALL depositions etc. If you would do the same, there is NO WAY that you could come to this ridiculous conclusion. Educate yourself before making such absurd statements and calling them "facts" or a "basis" to murder three young boys. It also concerns me that Mr. Moore is still "stuck" in all of this propoganda. You are also a victim in all of this, just like the families of the WM3, and for THAT I feel terribly sorry for you, but it seems as though you would be on board with helping to apprehend the TRUE guilty parties in this case. We, the WM*6* supporters, are also fighting for YOU. We will DEMAND our voices be heard, and a full exoneration of D.J.J. be granted...not only for THEM, but for Michael, Stevie, and Christopher, as well. We want the TRUE perpetrator to FINALLY face his demise, and I STRONGLY feel that they will. He can't run from the FACTS and EVIDENCE forever. All 6 victims in this case DESERVE justice. Period.

I was happy to see an interview with these guys. I think it was a horrible injustice and they deserve nothing but happiness to come their way. I agree with some of the other ppl that I would have liked to hear from Damian and Jason instead of the guy "trying" to interview. Still great getting to see them

Piers. Our legal system is ancient and outdated as the result, judges and attorneys are frustrated and corrupt. Children and adults are suffering because the legal system has not changed with times. Since the 60's, we have spent much of taxpayers money on wars because America does not know how to settle problems amicably, therefore our Country is suffering and all aspects. We have had a do nothing congress for centuries and it's finally coming to a boiling point. During slavery, the Supreme Court ruled that children are chattels (a thing) and as to this date, our leaders are refusing to change such inhumane ruling, therefore children are also suffering a great deal. We cover up our human rights violations but expose other Countries for their inhumanity.

Mr. Moore, shame on you. You have been given the opportunity on numerous occasions to "tell your side" and you, and your ex wife have declined. You even declined to meet with several people in 2007, who wanted to show you new evidence. You chose NOT to tell your side of the story, but then you criticize when others opt to tell theirs ?

If you'd take a step back, and look at the posts from your followers, you will see why NO ONE, not the media, not the attorneys, not the prosecution, NO ONE takes you seriously. If i remember correctly, Mr. Ellington even told you that you have "NO VETO POWER"...why ? Because of the vile you and yours spew. It's rather disgusting, and behavior unbecoming that of a victims father. Do you think Michael is proud of you for the way your behaving ? I doubt it, I'm sure his restless little soul just wants justice.

As for Jessie not being interviewed...2 reasons. First, they wanted him to fly to New York, and because he's going to New York next week for the screening of PL3, he didn't want to go 2 weeks in a row. Second, his attorney could not be present, and he didn't want to go alone.

As for Damiens 500...people, come on !! That was completely exaggerated by Damien at the prodding of his family, to assure him Social Security....and this was BEFORE the murders. So, why don't you all dig a bit deeper and find something else to use as "evidence"....The great dane, again, BEFORE the murders...nice !

    Jessies confessions...debunked....Next !

Do you honestly think, that the AG's office in Arkansas, would have agreed, to let 3 child murderers free, if they honestly thought they were guilty ??....Each and every one of you need to take a good hard look and face reality....

The scary thing is, You call Damien the Psychopath....

  29. Misskelley's THIRD voluntary confession - in front of his own lawyer

    excerpts from callahan 8K

"STIDHAM: You still want to give a statement despite my advise and counsel?
MISSKELLEY: Yes, cause I want something done about it."

....DAVIS: Ok. And when they came over what happened?
MISSKELLEY: And then Ja, Damien jumped on'm. And them other two (2) started beating on Damien and me and Jason jumped on'm.

...DAVIS: Ok. Now when you grabbed one and Jason grabbed one what happened next?
    MISSKELLEY: We started hitting'm.
    DAVIS: With what ?
    MISSKELLEY: Fist at first.
DAVIS: Ok. Where describe to me what Ja, what you saw Jason do?
MISSKELLEY: He first he cut one of'm on a face on his left side just a little bit like a scratch. Then ..ah.. he went to the other one and got on top of him, started hitting him and then pull one of'm pants down and get on top of'm and cut'm.

....DAVIS: What, what was Damien doing during this time?
MISSKELLEY: Well the one that got cut on his face, he stuck his finger on his cheek and slicked the blood off of it.
DAVIS: That's what, saw Damien do. What else was he doing?
MISSKELLEY: He grabbed one of'm by the ear, I don't know which one, he grabbed on of'm by the ear trying to pull his ear off or something. He grabbed'm pretty tight. It turned kind of red.
DAVIS: Did the, were the kids, the threee (3) little boys were they saying anything, doing anything during this ?
MISSKELLEY: They were saying Stop, Stop.
DAVIS: Ok. And what about the boy that you were hitting, was he saying that?
MISSKELLEY: Yea, he was telling me stop and then I stopped and Damien told me, no, no don't stop. And I got on'm again.

....DAVIS: Ok. And did Jason have anything in his hands at that point.
    MISSKELLEY: He had a knife.
DAVIS: Ok. Where was, was he actually hitting'm with the knife or with his fist ?
    MISSKELLEY: blade was open.
DAVIS: Ok. Could you see where he, was he cutting the boy?
MISSKELLEY: No, he was like this swinging the knife at his legs.
DAVIS: Ok. Could you see, did you ever see one of the boys get cut with the knife?
MISSKELLEY: After he cut through with'm then I noticed what'd he done.
    DAVIS: What did you see?
MISSKELLEY: I saw that boy you know missing
DAVIS: If you worried when you saw that, describe to me what you saw Jason do and what you saw happened?
MISSKELLEY: Well when he was doing that I seen blood fly.
DAVIS: Ok. Well did he, where'd the blood go?
MISSKELLEY: Grass, I mean not grass but weeds, like sling around.
DAVIS: What'd the boy do when that happened?
MISSKELLEY: He started hollering. And Jason put his shirt over his mouth.

....DAVIS: Ok, Jessie tole me that Jason came over to you and then went back to the boy that had been castrated and start hitting him in the face. What was Damien doing at this point?
MISSKELLEY: He was still holding that, still messing with them boys, that boys p_nis.
DAVIS: Ok. And you said that you had, that your b, the boy that you had was unconscious and then what happened next, what you remember happening next?
MISSKELLEY: I, I let him go, after that I let him go and Damien come and got him. So I kept on hanging on to'm and start hitting him some more.
DAVIS: The, were the other two (2) boys still conscious. You said the one you had was unconscious, were the other two (2) boys still conscious at that point?
MISSKELLEY: Well the one who got castrated he wasn't moving that much no more. I figured you know he might be dead or whatever. I really didn't know.
DAVIS: What happens next you said you, Damien's still got the other one, Jason's got one and you got one. What happens next?
MISSKELLEY: Damien was messing the one little boy's p_nis.

    ....MISSKELLEY: We tied'm up.
DAVIS: Ok. Now you said before when the police asked you in their statement and asked you what they were tied up with. And you said they were tied up with rope. Ah..
    MISSKELLEY: I made that up.
    DAVIS: Why?
MISSKELLEY: Tied to get off, you know get'm off track.
    DAVIS: Who tied'm up?
    MISSKELLEY: Damien and Jason.

  30. myths about Jessie Miskelley

    myths about Jessie Miskelley

    from wm3 truth

Supporters have spread many myths about Jessie Miskelley’s 6/3/93 interrogation: the police bullied a mentally retarded teenager into making a false confession in a brutal 12-hour interrogation; his family didn’t know where he was; he was denied access to a lawyer, never informed of his Miranda rights, pressured to sign a rights waiver which he couldn’t read or understand; Misskelley’s story didn’t match the facts of the crime, except for a few details which the cops fed him and had him repeat back.

None of that is true. Here are the facts.

There was no 12-hour interrogation. Misskelley first confessed at 2:20 pm, roughly 4½ hours after Sgt. Allen picked him up at his father’s workplace. That 4½ hour period included maybe 3 hours of actual interrogation.

Misskelley’s father knew he was at the police station. Jessie Sr. talked to Sgt. Mike Allen at 9:45 am and again at 11:15 am about the interview. Allen actually talked to Jessie Sr. first in the morning; Jessie Sr. then drove off and retrieved Jessie Jr.; then Allen and Jessie Jr. drove to the police station. At the 11:15 am meeting, Jessie Sr. signed a waiver allowing police to give Jessie Jr. a polygraph exam.

Police informed Misskelley of his legal rights on several occasions. Sgt. Allen read Misskelley his legal rights around 11 am, and Misskelley initialed and signed a rights form. Detective Durham advised Miskelley of his rights again at around 11:30 am before conducting the polygraph exam, and Misskelley again initialed and signed a rights form. (This second form is not available online, but it was discussed and entered into evidence as “States Exhibit Eleven” during a court hearing on 1/13/94.) At the beginning of the first tape-recorded confession, police again reminded Misskelley of his legal rights and reviewed the signed rights form with him.

That hasn’t stopped WM3 supporters from making bogus claims. For example, Henry Rollins told a radio interviewer in 2003, “what was really interesting to me was the lack of due process that the three boys incarcerated did not enjoy and the lack of Miranda rights read to Jessie Misskelley and I went ‘wow, that’s not the way Americans should be treated’”.

Misskelley was capable of understanding his legal rights. His lawyers tried claiming that Misskelley was incapable of reading or understanding his legal rights, and thus that his 6/3/93 confession should be thrown out. Prosecutors countered that Misskelley had extensive experience dealing with law enforcement officials before June 1993, and that Misskelley had been Mirandized and signed legal rights waivers on four previous occasions.

There’s no evidence that Misskelley was threatened or harmed during his interrogation. Jessie Sr. later told reporters that cops “cussed him, spit in his face, stepped on his hands.” It’s possible officers used swear words around Jessie, but there’s no evidence of any physical intimidation.

Jessie Misskelley is not mentally retarded. Not by any accepted legal or medical definition, at least. No one disputes that he has a low IQ, but that is not synonymous with “mentally retarded”.

The bogus “mentally retarded” claim serves two purposes for WM3 supporters: creating sympathy (“look at how the mean cops treated poor retarded Jessie”) and sowing doubt about Jessie’s many confessions (“you can’t believe anything Jessie says, he’s retarded”).

Misskelley’s lawyers tried to depict him as “mentally retarded” during trial. Supporters continue to call him “mentally retarded”, or “mildly retarded” or “borderline retarded” or “mentally handicapped”. Not true. Misskelley’s lawyer and WM3 defenders often make the similar claim that Misskelley functions at a five-year-old level. Again, there’s no evidence for this claim. He was 17 at the time of the crime and confession, and he functioned at the level of a street-smart but low-IQ 17-year-old.

In fall 1993, when Misskelley was awaiting trial, a psychologist hired by Misskelley’s defense lawyers gave him an IQ test (specifically, the WAIS-R). Dr. William Wilkins declared Misskelley’s IQ to be 72. Before the murders, Misskelley had taken two other IQ tests and scored 74 and 73.

The jailhouse IQ test should be taken with a grain of salt. First, Misskelley’s lawyer told him upfront that a lower test score would make the death penalty less likely. Paradise Lost actually shows this conversation (around the 13:00 mark). That’s a pretty strong incentive to get a few questions wrong.

Second, cross-examination of Dr. Wilkins brought out some discrepancies. In Misskelley’s two earlier IQ tests, his performance score (a subscore covering five of the eleven subtests in the WAIS-R) had been 84 and 88; this time around his performance score was 75. The prosecutor also grilled Wilkins about the MMPI-2 test (a personality test, not an IQ test) given to Misskelley, which showed a very high level of “malingering” or “faking bad” or, in Wilkins’ own words, “trying to present yourself as being ill when you’re not for some particular gain”. Wilkins falsely reported a “mild elevation” on the malingering scale in his report; under cross-examination he admitted, “That may have been a mistake then. I may well have mispronounced what it was supposed to be.” All very technical, but the upshot is: Misskelley may have intentionally tried to score badly on his psychological tests, and Dr. Wilkins may have been complicit in this attempt.

That IQ score of 72 should not be taken as hard fact. Consider it the low end of a range. And even 72 does not mean someone is mentally retarded.

The Wikipedia page on mental retardation lists this rough breakdown:

    Profound mental retardation: Below 20
    Severe mental retardation: 20–34
    Moderate mental retardation: 35–49
    Mild mental retardation: 50–69

(Yes, I know Wikipedia is not always a reliable source. The Wikipedia page on the West Memphis Three is a complete joke. I’m assuming that the mental retardation page is a reliable summary of mainstream thinking, but I’m not an expert.)

Mental retardation is not simply a matter of IQ; the “diagnosis is not based only on IQ scores, but must also take into consideration a person’s adaptive functioning”. Adaptive functioning covers things like: “Daily living skills, such as getting dressed, using the bathroom, and feeding oneself; Communication skills, such as understanding what is said and being able to answer; Social skills with peers, family members, spouses, adults, and others.”

Misskelley definitely falls on the non-retarded side of the scale on all these “adaptive functioning” criteria. He lived very independently, going to jobs and hanging with friends with little adult oversight. He juggled multiple relationships with women. Watch Jessie interact with his family in Paradise Lost — he holds up his end of the conversation, uses humor, responds quickly to things other people say.

There’s a broad range between “average intelligence” and “mentally retarded”. Jessie Misskelly’s cognitive level falls somewhere in the middle of that broad range.

Ok, first of all I think people need to look for information in places OTHER than wikipedia. Anyone can post anything on there, it does not make it fact.

If you were to do some actual research on what IQ levels are considered "mentally retarded" then you would find that Jessie's IQ of 72 would make him "Borderline intellectual functioning". Also that it would have him on the low end of the borderline since the range is between 70-79.
I should also add that the term "mental retardation" is no longer commonly used. Jessie would now be described as having an "intellectual disability".
His brain is not high functioning. This would be like taking a confession from a child. 3 confessions, sure. Each one different from the last.
By the third one he had learned a lot about the case so it was more detailed.
You'd think the first one would have been the clearest account considering it would have been so fresh in his mind had he actually been there or done those things.

Second of all InTheKnow, I get what you are saying but I must admit, I was flabbergasted that you would say "Do you think Michael is proud of you for the way your behaving ? I doubt it, I'm sure his restless little soul just wants justice. "

While I disagree with the non supporters and their views, and I think it is terrible how much hatred is being spread by them, I have to say that reading that part of your comment made me angry.
I have children. I can't even bear to think about anything like this ever happening to one of them.
I can absolutely understand why he feels so much anger and so much hatred. I can even understand why he directs it at Damien, Jason, and Jessie.
While we, on the outside, can read everything there is to read and watch everything there is to watch and listen to everything there is to hear, can see where the evidence points...well it's easier for us because we are not filled with grief and loss.
He needs someone to blame. He had someone to blame for 18 years and now those wounds have been ripped wide open again.
I can understand why having them behind bars is a comfort to him.
So now, obviously, the only thing to do( because no matter how much people yell and shout about it, the WM3 are NOT going to go back to prison for this. It's done.) is to find enough evidence to put the true guilty party behind bars.
How this person or these people have been able to live with themselves for the past 18 years is beyond my comprehension.

I have been a WM3 supporter since the very first day I heard about this case and I will continue to be. But I am also a supporter of the 3 little boys who lost their lives, and I am a supporter of their grieving parents.

    • Misskelley knew what he was doing

Just because he had a lower IQ than normal, does NOT mean he was operating at the level of a child. This is totally ridiculous. He was street smart and knew exactly what he was doing when he confessed the third time with his lawyer present asking him not to confess. By the third confession, he had plenty of time to think about what had happened and get the story clear.

The only possible reason Misskelley would do this months after the other two confessions is to come clean about the crimes to try and clear his conscience. The hated is spread by the supporters. They are vicious at times, insulting those that think the three were guilty. The supporters call the nonsupporters names. They try to make sure that the nonsupporters views are buried and only that of the defendants is heard.

The supporters want the truth to be heard. They want the facts to be heard and they want people to be informed.

There is name calling from both sides by a handful of each. The rest of us supporters are more interested in getting the information out there to spread awareness.
We feel that the more people know about this case and the more people we get involved, the more likely we are to uncover who murdered these children.

  32. Jesse and the 3 told others they committed the crime

    – –

Jessie Misskelley’s confession to Buddy Lucas – May 6, 1993

Lucas – So we sit there, sit there, and I said, he said man me Jason and Damien we went walking last night in the town of West Memphis, I said why didn’t you all come by and get me? We will we uh, we were in a hurry and everything go up there and come back home. I said alright I understand (inaudible) now since I found out I’m kinda glad he didn’t come by and get me

Ridge – Okay, what did he tell you he do?

Lucas – He told me that uh, that he got in a fight, that’s what he told me at first

    Ridge – Okay

Lucas – I said Damien and Jason they helped you? He said um-yea and everything so I said well did you all hurt anybody? And he said yea, I didn’t think it was those 8 year old kids or anything, so I turn around and come to found out that Jason he was with Jason and Damien when they sacrificed them little kids. I was come and tell you all

Jessie Misskelley’s confession to Kim Floresca – June 2, 1993

Floresca said Misskelley told her and other students the day before he was arrested that he participated in the killings.

A group of students were driving last Wednesday after school to a friend’s house to go swimming when Misskelley began telling his bizarre tale, she said.

“He was saying he hit the little boy and the little boy ran off and he was taking him back to where Damien and the other boy were,” she said. According to Misskelley’s story, Echols had already killed the two other boys, she said....

The details in Floresca’s quote match details that Misskelley told police in his June 3 confession to police — specifically that Misskelley chased down and brought back one boy who ran away.

Damien Echols’ confession to William Winford Jones – May 1993

According to notes by police officer Shane Griffin, DeQuita Dunham “stated that her son William Jones has heard Damien stating that he pulled a fast one on the police and that has been telling kids at Lakeshore that if they messed with him, he would do the same thing to them that he did to the 3 little boys.”

William Winford Jones told WMPD detective Bryn Ridge that Damien Echols had confessed to him a week earlier.

Damien Echols’ confession to Ken Watkins – May 7, 1993

Kenneth- He said, i was there when the three little kids got killed.

Ridge- That’s what he told you?

Kenneth- That’s what he told me.

On October 12, 1993, Ken Watkins took another polygraph at the West Memphis Police Department. To the question, “Did Damien tell you that he was there when those three young boys were killed?”, Watkins answered “yes”; the polygrapher considered this an honest answer. Watkins denied knowing who else was involved and who actually committed the murders; the polygrapher considered those answers deceptive.

Damien Echols brags at the skating rink – May 1993
On June 16, 1993, a twelve-year-old West Memphis girl named Brandy Wilson told police that she had overheard Damien Echols bragging about the murders at a local skating rink.

Damien Echols brags at the softball park – late May 1993
Several tween girls claimed to have heard Damien Echols bragging about the murders at a local girls softball game.....

WM3 supporters often claim that the softball girls and Donna Medford later recanted. This is false. Some supporters point to this 2007 affidavit by Donna Medford (scroll down to Exhibit RR) as a recantation. It’s not. Donna Medford in 2007 repeated and affirmed exactly what she said in June 1993 and March 1994.

Jason Baldwin’s confession to Michael Carson — Summer 1993
In January 1994, sixteen-year-old Michael Carson contacted the Arkansas State Police with information. Carson and Jason Baldwin had both been held at the Craighead County Detention Center in summer 1993, and Carson claimed that Baldwin confessed to him sometime in late July or early August.

....However, there are good reasons to consider Michael Carson believable. By the time he came forward, Carson had been released and faced no charges. He had nothing to gain for his testimony. For what it’s worth, he passed a polygraph.

....Michael Carson reaffirmed his story in December 1996 and denied ever having met Johnny Preston. “That’s just something somebody has made up. They’re just trying to make me look bad so [Baldwin] can get off. I don’t go around crying about things in front of total strangers.”
