Need to Know News: Amanda Knox heads home to Seattle; What to expect from the Apple iPhone event

Each day, we here at "Piers Morgan Tonight" put together the news you need to know – from what happened last night to what will happen today.

For October 4, 2011 – Amanda Knox is a free woman, Apple expected to unveil new iPhone today, 'Monday Night Football' intro pulled...

Amanda Knox heads home to Seattle: "Murder victim Meredith Kercher's family cannot forgive anyone until they know the truth about her killing, Kercher's sister said Tuesday as Amanda Knox flew out of Italy, a free woman after four years."

• What to expect from the iPhone event: "It's the worst-kept secret since Adam Lambert's sexuality: Apple is expected to unveil a new iPhone on Tuesday. Apple sent out an e-mail on September 27 teasing reporters with phone-related pictures and this not-so-cryptic tagline: "Let's talk iPhone." So, yeah, we pretty much know what's coming."

• Rivals give Perry pass over racist rock: "When news broke in the national media over the weekend that Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry’s family had leased a property in his native Texas known by the name “Niggerhead,” Perry’s campaign swiftly responded. But so far, almost no one has taken the opportunity to slam Perry over the property’s controversial name. Instead, the reaction has been subdued – even from the White House and from some of Perry’s most prominent and outspoken rivals for the GOP nomination."

Program could shorten wait at airport security checkpoints: "The Transportation Security Administration on Tuesday will unveil a "trusted traveler" program - one meant to expedite screening at U.S. airport checkpoints, agency chief John Pistole said."

'Monday Night Football' intro pulled after Hank Williams Jr. comments: "For the first time in years, "Monday Night Football" viewers did not hear Hank Williams Jr.'s intro "Are You Ready for Some Football?" after ESPN pulled the song from the broadcast following remarks Williams made about President Barack Obama."

Pierce – way to go with your slanted Euro opinion and leave out the fact that the convicted/confessed murderer is behind bars in Italy. You didn't even remind your Vanity Fair guest of this.

Totally agree with above poster. What the hel* was that remark you made about the Knox case? They have found the killer and he's behind bars. Your conspiracy theory is best left over the sea. We Americans are not push overs. We can see, taste and know the truth as well as when something doesn't add up. If this case was anything resembling "justice," well you need an American education. She was targeted by an Italian bully, who has a strong history of being corrupt. Why didn't you mention that??

I have to agree, I don't get why this isn't covered more. There is a convicted killer whose prints etcc.. were everywhere.
Whose sentence was reduced, I am not sure why.

The Vanity Fair "Journalist" was horribly biased. In fact she was obnoxious! The hate just steamed out of her. Has she heard of Rudy Guede? All of the UK press I have read – never mentions him!

The UK press did not attack Raffaele Sollecito. Why is this? Why is the UK press so intent in attacking a 20 something girl? Amanda has been crucified by the UK press. The court overturned the conviction. If she earns money from this unbelievably sick situation forced on her by an incompetent prosecutor and the UK press – great! Leave her alone!

It is NOT justice, if the wrong person(s) is convicted. I thought this was one of the UK's principles?

CNN – get rid of Piers – his show has been bad since day one. Arrogance does not play as well on this side of the pond.

I do not get the people in the UK, including Vicky Ward!! Why do they insist they do not know what happened to Meredith Kercher now that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito have been acquitted?? Why do you all forget that Rudy Guede's DNA is all over the crime scene and that he is in prison for the murder. Anyone with intelligence could see Amanda and Raffaele are innocent and Rudy is the lone killer! It is obvious and he admitted it in a Skype call he had with a friend when he fled to Germany. He is a cold blooded killer and a liar!! May the Kercher family have closure but not at the expense of Amanda and Raffaele.

Amanda and Rafaelle are guilty!! Amanda also confessed to being their the night the crime happened, then recanted! She was out buying bleach that morning, and what was found in the apartment and on the knife at Rafaelles house? Bleach! If rudy guede was the sole killer then why would blood of merediths on the blade of the knife, with Amanda Knox's Dna on the handle be at Rafaelle's house? I'm assuming my fellow Americans believe Rudy Guede planted it there! Haha. When the police showed up the next morning after Meredith was killed Amanda was holding a mop and a mop bucket was leaning against the house!! Guilty Guilty Guilty. England AND Italy, and even most of France believe that Amanda Knox is guilty. The PR campaign of the Knox's have been giving another side to the story that wasn't true. Rest in Peace Meredith Kercher.

Of course Rudy Guede did not plant the evidence. He is a petty criminal that lied about Amanda and Rafaellle to get a short sentence. The DNA you are talking about is what the court said was bad. The DNA was contamination.
You are not an American – I can tell by your grammar.

These comments are just sad. "Amanda also confessed to being their the night the crime happened" – NO the Italian police who trapped her in a room, wrote that down on a piece of paper IN ITALIAN and slapped her around until she signed it, came up with that confession. Amanda Knox case aside, there a many people in the US that are falsely accused and sent to prison, and it is dangerous comments and shoddy reporting that puts them there.

Ask me anything you'd like, I am one-hundred percent an American. When I get worked up I make typing mistakes. Wrong again lol.

The court did NOT say it was bad. Look it up, they said that it couldn't be retested because it had been cleaned, and therefore, there wasn't enough Dna left to retest. Since they felt that the bra clasp could have been contaminated, they said they had to disregard the other evidence. It's people like you who don't know much about the case and just think you know what your talking about. Pathetic.

Amanda Knox's DNA was mixed in with Meredith Kerchers blood at the crime scene. Many people will stick up for Amanda and say well of course they lived together. What people fail to realize or consider is that if that was the case, in every drop of blood of Merediths, why wasn't any of the other roomates blood mixed in? Only Amanda's, Ruede Guedes, and Rafaelle Sollecito. Also, from the bruises and cuts on Meredith Kerchers body, both the prosecution and defense admit that it looks like more than one person was involved in the crime by the way of the bruises and cuts. The knife that was taken from Rafaelle Sollecito's apartment had Meredith Kercher's blood on it! With Amanda Knox's DNA? The only reason it was excluded was because they said it had been bleached and there wasn't much Dna left on it so they couldn't retest it!! I have to agree with Kathy. Amanda Knox, Rudy Guede, and Rafaelle Sollecito are guilty of murder!!

"Amanda Knox's DNA was mixed in with Meredith Kerchers blood " – That is simply NOT true.

Amanda Knox also said that an innocent man killed Meredith and made him loose his job and had him arrested. She never once cleared him. Amanda Knox didn't even attend the memorial service. She walked right buy and went to the lingerie store instead where video cameras have them laughing. Your roomate just dies and your laughing? Huh, that makes sense. All the roomates told the police they were creeped out by Amanda and they were very suscipious of her. All the other girls and guys were crying, Amanda and Rafaelle were the only ones who weren't upset.

Obviously you did not read up on the actual facts. The Italian police officers said, " that an innocent man killed Meredith" and slapped Amanda around until she agreed with it. Geez. "All the other girls and guys were crying, Amanda and Rafaelle were the only ones who weren't upset." You don't think the press MADE it look this way? And why? To sell more papers! "Destroy a life and make lots of money" – Euro Press ... You think they would have learned after the Death of Diana.
