Jailed Afghan rape victim freed: "An Afghan woman imprisoned for adultery after a relative raped her has been freed after President Hamid Karzai intervened on her behalf. The woman, identified only as Gulnaz for her own protection, had been sentenced to prison for 12 years after she reported that her cousin's husband had raped her two years ago."

• Senate to take up payroll tax plan opposed by Obama: "Following House passage of a Republican plan that would extend the payroll tax cut and speed the process for government approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, attention shifted Wednesday to the Senate, where the measure was deemed unlikely to pass because of strong Democratic opposition."

• Postal Service delays closings until May 15: “The U.S. Postal Service has agreed to hold off on closing any more post offices or mail facilities until May 15, 2012, to allow Congress time to work on a plan to save the service.”

• Euro drops below key $1.30 mark: “The euro fell to its lowest level since mid-January, easing below the key $1.30 mark Wednesday, as any enthusiasm over Europe's most recent 'solution' has cooled. The euro was trading at $1.2975 and Chandler said next year, it could go below $1.25.”

• Two accusers in Bernie Fine scandal sue Syracuse and Jim Boeheim for defamation: Two men sued Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim and the school for defamation Tuesday, saying they were vilified as liars out for money after they accused his longtime assistant of molesting them.”
