Clips From Last Night: Donahue on his daytime TV success; Christina Taylor Green's parents on how they've endured their loss

Media personality Phil Donahue sat down with Piers Morgan last night and reminisced over his ground breaking talk show program "The Phil Donahue Show". Donahue recalled the key to his success: "We knew because we were visually dull, against all those 'spinning wheels', the only chance we had [to succeed] would be to book issues that were seldom seen on television."

The parents of Christina Taylor Green, the youngest victim in the 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona that included Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords also joined Piers and discussed how they've endure their loss.

"Time does heal some wounds but this is one that it'll always stay with us forever," Roxanna Green said. "We're always going to miss her and we're always going to be sad about it."

  1. All for common sense

It was so refreshing to listen to Phil Donahue and the voice of reason last night! What a great guy, intelligent, well spoken and full of reasonable ideas. We need more people like that on the air, every day. Enough with the foolish discourse that is ruining the United States of America; right now it's more like the Divided States... isn't it?

I am also an Australian who has an interest in the US and I must say that Phil Donahue's insights and opinions were spot on.Phil should have a regular platform to express these opinions ... It seems that the Right has more opportunities to push their agenda compared with the democrats. maybe CNN should create this space for him ... I know that I would be a fan ....

I agree. I was thinking he should do a political show and get to the heart of the issues to help people weed through stuff feed through the media!

I loved the segment last night with Donahue. There was a great chemistry between the two and it felt genuine and revealing. I love seeing Piers Morgan on CNN and hope that he will be there for many years to come. Him and Anderson are it! I will not watch CNN if Piers Morgan is not there, except for Anderson Coopoer. They and Wolf Blitzer are the best.

Piers Morgan...i cannot understand, the man talks like he has a mouth full of marbles, talks way too fast, accent is way heavy, and interrups guests while they are talking. I think an actioneer would be a better job. So..........i don't watch. Come on CNN, you can do better!

It was thrilling to watch Phil Donahue yesterday night, he continues to be the real thing. Speaks his mind, intelligent, very knowledgeable about every single topic, and charming. I used to watch his show every day long time ago and enojoyed it very much. Yesterday I wondered wether after so many years I woudl find him as compelling and charismatic as I used to see him. And his political views so downtoearth .. NO dissapoinment at All .Pierce please have a full hour with him only on politics .. I guess he really tells it like it is Way much better than Trump– .And I was amazed how well he looks I did not even dare to calculate his age .. he looks just thje same .. Good for HIM ..

Ron Paul could still win, Phil Donahue from the 'Make love, not war' generation remembers Vietnam and how terrible it was for Southeast Asia and America, just because Santorum is married and has seven children doesn't necessarily make him a good man, just look at Goebbels. Santorum has no problem rattling the sabre and neither do the other chickenhawk warmongering Republican candidates, especially Gingrich, as for Romney, he would gladly send everyone else's son and daughter to war and leave his sons at home eating grass-fed beef and organic vegetables from his wife's kitchen.

Santorum always looks so bitter, that was a terrible thing for him to say 'blacks' in America live off of others, everywhere you go you see hard-working black people working for low wages, and many if not most of them are superb employees who face discrimination landing a better line of work. With Santorum as President, we would go back to back alley abortions and more of the same in the Drug War. With Ron Paul as President, drugs would be legalized and maybe the non-violent drug offenders could get treatment and pardons. With Ron Paul as President, we would probably not have a war with Iran, we might even recognize a Palestinian State and the libertarian Commander-in-Chief would probably get rid of the stupid and illegal Cuba travel restrictions. It would be so much fun to hop on a direct flight to Havana or Varadero instead of going on those tours where you aren't even allowed to go to the beach, I'll bet Santorum likes those restrictions on people going to Cuba's beaches, with all of those sinful, beautiful bikini-clad women that just want to sip a drink with you and go splashing around in the water. If Santorum went to Cuba, the first thing he would do is probably go visit the Archbishop of Havana, everyone else would be smoking a cigar, sipping a mojito, diving at Varadero, or dancing salsa and merengue at the clubs and bars in Havana

It was great to see Phil Donahue again. It was comforting to listen to him as I have the same point of views about our Country. The good old days are gone as our Government is corrupt.

I am Australian but have an international interest in watching the US lose its credibilty very quickly overseas.
Phil Donahue's opinions and values were a remarkable breath of fresh air to watch and listen to. Bring him back for a more lenghty interview and team him up with Donald Trump. Together they may get American candidates back on track and the voters back into focus.

It was refreshing to see Phil Donahue and listen to his opinion. I never missed the Donohue show. I will always remember the episode which dealt with debit cards. As I watched the show I thought there was no way a card would replace paper money. A few years later, it came to fruition. It was just refreshing to see him.

I was looking forward to listening to Phil Donahue on your show Piers, and I thank you for supporting our hea;th care system, but when Phil called our system ,which has been working since 1965, a socialist system then I lost all creditability in what he said. Our system as well as the one in France are the best health care systems in the world. We do not leave people on the street without the opportunity of proper health care. Why is it that hospitals will except people with only health insurance and let people die in their hall ways. Your system is broke and as long as you have a government that only recognizes people with money and big drug companies you will always be in the dark ages. Your government is broke and if you keep going on this path so will your country.

This was the first time I really watched your show and it was because of Phil Donahue. Thank you for bringing him on. I agree with others that it was refreshing to hear someone speak about the truth of our country. It was also refreshing to hear your views, Piers, as a person from another country, on this country's reaction to Obama accomplishing what he promised to do during the elections and how it doesn't make sense. Anyway, thank you and you should encourage Phil to go back to work with a show on politics that actually helps people process what is going on in this country. We need intelligent programming back on the air!
