Clips From Last Night: Ali Wentworth on the GOP race; escalating unrest in Syria; and Jon Voight on his daughter, Angelina Jolie

Author and comedienne Ali Wentworth joined "Piers Morgan Tonight" Wednesday, for a hilarious, no holds barred interview.

A "political animal", as described by Piers Morgan, Wentworth is the daughter of First Lady Nancy Reagan's social secretary Mabel Cabot, and Washington Post reporter Eric Wentworth. She's also the wife of political analyst and ABC reporter George Stephanopoulos. Naturally, the conversation turned to politics and the GOP race, about which Wentworth cheekily replied: “All I can say is that I hope Roseanne Barr wins," referencing Barr's recently announced presidential bid via Twitter.

Also, as unrest in Syria continues to escalate, Robin Wright from the Woodrow Wilson Center and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof joined Morgan, offering insight into a potential role by the U.S.:

"We can encourage some military factions within the government to think about defecting to think about a coup d'état," said Kristof. "And also there’s one thing we can do to give us a greater moral authority to criticize Russia when it supplies arms to Syria and that is for us not to be supplying weapons to Bahrain as it cracks down on its own democratic uprising in that country and our ally.”

Later on the show, academy award winning actor Jon Voight joined Piers in studio to talk politics, and parenting. The Hollywood legend is the father of Angelina Jolie, and he says he admires how she handles her fame:

"She’s very good with people and she has not been cowed by the celebrity, when people come up to her she is very welcoming, very loving and I think that helps her and she has people around her hopefully that are honest with her and she has a wonderful sense of humor."

I cannot believe how racist and vitriolic Jon Voight is. His hatred and prejudice toward our "black" president is beyond offensive. Also, his immitation of a black man was horrifying and incendiary. How could Piers Morgan just sit there straight-faced and not say SOMETHING?! Boy, Mitt Romney has a stellar cast of buddies endorsing him: First Donald Trump (who refers to our president as a Manchurian Candidate) and now Jon Voight, who obviously hates blacks and is likely certifiably insane! Why does CNN give these jokers a voice?

Jon Voight gets more insane every year or tow. I don't know what possesses people like Morgan to have him on the air! Remember when he was trashing celebrities for criticizing the occupation of Iraq and George W. Bush as unpatriotic?

He gets zero credit for the wonderful person his daughter is as he abandoned her when she was a baby. He couldn't be bothered to work and support his family or keep his zipper problem in check so he gets none of the credit.

Jon Voight has admitted that he was not a faithful husband, but he most certainly did not abandon his family. He worked as an successful actor and provided financial as well as emotional support for his family. His falling out with his daughter didn't happen until she had adopted her first child and they have resolved their differences, so get over yourself.

Jon Voight DID abandon his family and his financial participation was court ordered and yet he thought he knew better. Angelina explained on 60 Minutes that she decided to bury the hatchet with him for her brother's sake and so it wouldn't be awkward for her children to have a grandfather they had never met, but that he had to agree they could never discuss the past. She is the only healthy one in that relationship. Clearly!

He's also still an insane, facsist liar. It is seriously disappointing to see Piers Morgan and CNN accept that brither nonsense on his program.

I want Nick Kristof to know that Bahrain supports democracy. When people speak, the government listens! They created an unprecedented independent, international commission to recommend reforms to the government, which the government implemented!

  4. American in Bahrain

Bahrain has been a partner of the United States as long as I can remember. I know Bahrain provided a home to the Fifth Fleet when we needed a stronger presence in the Arabian Gulf. Bahrain and the US do a lot of business together, too. Their unrest last year was met with receptiveness by the government to create dialogue and enact reform. It's a shame Nick Kristof has learned so little about Bahrain on hIs visits here.

  5. Facts About Bahrain

About Nick Kristof’s comment on Bahrain - Bahrain is a strong and proud ally to the United States. The government here is working hard to create dialogue with the people and implement the reforms that they have asked for!

  8. Bahrain is Moving Forward

I echo the comments above. It's just not fair to lump Bahrain into the entire region's "Arab Spring". Each country is different and, in this case, Bahrain is moving forward on democratic reforms.

  9. Kristof has it wrong on Bahrain

Unfortunately Kristof has it wrong on Bahrain. Sadly his views have been colored by a few radicals who continue to distort the true picture of what is going on here. Bahrain is a progressive country that has been a strong ally to the United States and provides a critical counter to Iran's ambitions in the region. Had this deal come up last February when the unrest was at its peak, it may have made sense to postpone. But a lot has changed since then.
