Kirk Cameron on homosexuality: "It's detrimental, and ultimately destructive"

Coming up this evening on "Piers Morgan Tonight," actor and evangelist Kirk Cameron sits down for a candid and engaging discussion on politics, faith, values, and morals.

Best known for his role as the lovable Mike Seaver on television's "Growing Pains," Cameron is now a 41-year-old father of 6, and a Born Again Christian. Against a backdrop of the upcoming election, host Piers Morgan asks Cameron where he stands on various hot button social issues, including gay marriage:

"Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don't think anyone else should either," explains Cameron. "So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don't."

Joining Morgan in person, Cameron goes on to explain his views on homosexuality:

"I think that it's - it's - it's unnatural. I think that it's - it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."

Tune in to "Piers Morgan Tonight" at 9 p.m. ET/PT as the host of the upcoming documentary "Monumental" reveals his views on abortion, and details what he'd do if one of his children came to him and said "I'm gay."

What about his views on the 'rapture'? These are equally erroneous and destructive.

Pierce, you obviously were uncomfortable with the morals of kirk cameron. I thought you were an open guy, but your body language and your tone with him was defensive which was not necessary because you were not being attacked. May you learn to accept love when it is right in front of you. God bless. Good job Kirk.

I think Kirk is the one who looked uncomfortable. When asked point blank, yes or no if he thought being gay was a sin, he became defensive. He did not answer it directly. Instead, he said he did not want to go against God. He reminded me of a politician. If one thinks it is a sin, stand up for it and say so. He seemed too conerned with being "politcally correct."

God loves everyone regardless. In the Bible in the past we had slaves and women were second class. Times change and evolve for the good. If two guys love each other they should be able to be equal and marry. They are not sinners. I am sick and tired of some religious finatics thinking they know all and are about others or look down on others. What would God think of those people today. Maybe they need to look at themselves.....

I would have been uncomfortable too if I had been broadsided with an obivious air of contempt from the host. That is not good interviewing. Piers is more like Rush than he may want to acknowledge in his bias....neither seems to be able to handle opinoins and beliefs that are different from their own. It IS still a free country, and we still do have the right of free speech.

If any saw Piers Morgan being defensive they don't understand his job as a news commentator. CNN news and thier commentary programs I find very balance and respectful in reporting the news. Piers was asking questions in knowing all his audience would not be in agreement with his guest. Yes Piers made his own views known which is good and fair as a commentator. Body languge showing his compations as he believes in shows he is human. The subject of morals and whose set of moral is right is what his guest was questioning and I believe is wrong like saying who's beliefe system is right.

It's interesting Jill how you berate Mr. Morgan for the interview of Kirk Cameron. Apparently you forget that if not for Mr. Morgan inviting Kirk Cameron to comment on the subject, no one, with the exception of a few would know or care who Kirk Cameron is. So, your comments considered, perhaps Mr. Morgan and the staff at CNN should never invite Kirk Cameron or anyone else with an opinion to participate in the show because it may not agree with your beliefs. Is that what I can derive from your comment?

I agree with most of that comment. Piers, I have always enjoyed and admired you. I have respected and "heard" your opinions. Tonight, you were defensive, obviously. Not an impartial, professional interviewer. You obviously had disdain for his opinion, which I do not believe should have been that obvious. Your editing, also, was not impartial. I am dissappointed, to say the least. CNN, China News Network,,,as it has become, strikes again. Shame on you Piers, for being so closed minded, that no ones opinion matters..except yours

I agree. There was anger towards Kurt and only respect shown from Kurt. Kurt's manner was very kind. He did not say he hated gay people, on the contrary he said to love everyone but he also stood by what the Bible says on the subject. What a classy guy he grew up to be. Where is the tolerance from Pierce Morgan? Hmmm

This part of the interview reminds me of when Jesus was asked by Pontius Pilate "...are you king of the Jews ?" Akin to directly asking HIM "..are you Mashicach ?..." JESUS response was "...you have said so...". Why of all responses did JESUS give that ? Well, Kirk, great job ! you made the point wisely without leaving doubt as to what the LORD requires of us.

Kirk was right when he said we all choose a moral standard whether it is defined or not. For an authentic Christian that standard is set by the teachings of Jesus and the scriptures. For others it may be their favorite author, a pop or political icon, or their favorite professor, etc. Christians who believe in moral absolutes like Kirk will see an increasing chasm by those that oppose our moral standards and values.

Pers was rude to Kirk acted like a bully and did not give him the courtesy to answer. As a Christian I thought Kirk was thoughtful and kind in his answers. To disagree with gay marriage and the gay lifestyle is a fundamental free speech right. The true bigots are those who shoot down other peoples opinions that disagree with their own.

Kirk was brave and answered the question for what he believes. Good for him, it's easy to take a different path and just agree agree agree with whatever is "okay" at the time. We need more people like Kirk that stay up and are really honest with themselves and people they interact with. That is what America is all about and why this country is great. Im not saying everything that pops out of his mouth is right, but at least he has the courage to stand up and say what he believes!!

Piers, Thanks so much for these interviews with Kurt Camron, Santorum, Gingritch and the rest of the religions conservative right. I appreciate the interviews and find them quite intriguing. As a gay man married in California what I'm dying for you to ask these people, especially the politicians going for the president. I completely understand your religious convictions and your beliefs, however the U.S. has more than just Christians as citizens. The foundation of this country was built on freedom of Religion. There are many generations of American Buddhists, Jews, Protestant, Baptists, Quakers, Amish, Muslim, and yes Atheist. That the role of President, means you have the same responsibility to these people as you do a Christian. That no one religion should have define right over other. The more challenging discussion i am dying for you to ask Santorum, or Gingritch is how does one balance the line between your personal beliefs over the beliefs of the "entire" country. It would be my view that as a leader the "entire" country comes first over my personal convictions.

Appears that Kurt Camron's kids are screwed or going to be messed up if they ever come out gay. They're going to have a hell of a struggle with Dad's wishy washy I love you, but don't be gay message. Keep up the good work!

I just watched this interview that seems to have created so much controversy. In my opinion, as an open minded person, I did not see anything wrong with what Kirk Cameron had to say. I think it was highly rude of Piers Morgan to attack him with such questions when he knows that Kirk is an Evangelistic Christian. What did he really think he was suppose to say? Cameron: "I love God and believe in what the Bible says...but...I think it is okay and perfectly natural for men to be with men or women with women?" I mean come on...where does it say in the Bible that this is okay in God's eyes? Christians use their Bibles as the words to live their lives by. It is their instructional manual. He did not say anything rude or mean or nasty about gays. He was only going by what the Bible teaches and giving his replies honestly and accordingly. It is ultimately God's decision. Kirk was not judging. We are not to judge for only God has that right. I can certainly understand how Kirk would feel uncomfortable with the way Piers kept attacking him with the questions until he got answers. I got the impression he was trying to stir up trouble. Kudos to you Kirk for being such a perfect gentleman in the wake of Piers' rudeness.

Ryan...you're assessing of Kirk is dead wrong. Kirk is not afraid to speak his mind as he has done time and time again, however he was trying to convey his reasons for being not condoning it, without being brash, rude and unloving. If he were being a politician, we all know his answer would have been one that pleased the masses...and from the hateful reactions that people are posting, it's obvious he 's not doing that.

It's interesting that we have to be tolerant toward everybody but Christians.

The freedoms that the U.S. used to hold so dear such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion (notice it's was never freedom FROM religion), are all being stripped away in the name of tolerance.

I didn't see a shred of hatred or antagonism coming from Kirk Cameron, however I did notice Piers Morgan getting antagonistic.

As a fellow Christian I want to commend Kirk Cameron for not wavering and standing on the Word of God. He was asked to share his Christian faith and he did. I am not advocating hate toward anyone and God does love everyone but as a Christian we stand on the Word of God. It does not matter whether or not you agree or disagree the Word of God is going to stand. Keep Standing for the Word of God, Kirk! If God be for us, who can be stand against us?-Romans 8:31

Kirk, God bless you and your family. I felt so proud of you on this show. Finally someone had the courage to speak up for the WORD of God. The bible is not a book to be altered to suit the 'times'. The bible teaches us to follow God as we walk this journey, it is our road map, our guide and our comfort. We (Christians) believe that it is the inspired word of God and we follow it's teachings with great reverence. Revelation 22:18 warns us against omitting or adding to God's word. Genesis 2, verses 22-24 clearly show us God's plan for marriage. Thank you Kirk, you made me proud to be a Christian woman. I am terribly embarrassed for other pastors that have been on and have danced around this issue, the truth needs to be told.........we should never be ashamed to proclaim the gospel.

"The bible is not a book to be altered to suit the 'times'. "

Part of reading comprehension 101 is to put it into historical context to get the true meaning. Fundamentalist like you don't even get that grade school concept. What the bible condemns is male prostitution, adultery and idol worship. No where does your bible condemn the gay person as we know and understand it today! That's the POINT! It's why there are now gay churches, pastors, rabbi's, nuns going on record stating being gay is NOT a sin. Heck, there are many pastors that have written apology letters to the gay community. All you are doing and people like you is fueling hatred and prejudice towards this minority group and guess what that is not what your Christ would have wanted.

Piers is a journalist, he wants answers to his and the worlds questions. Also we are not in the 500AD anymore....time has changed....people have evolved.....and the WHOLE WORLD has changed and it is time that catholics/cristians (I am a catholic as well) evolve with the rest of the world, things never stay the same for long. People need to update with the world and times.

Way to go Kirk!! And way to tell it Jill! In Genesis 19, God burnt down the city of Sodom because of gay immoral sin. So if God says it's wrong...then it's wrong. It's black or white. God wouldn't say "as long as you are happy son" because he knows that only true happiness is found in God. You can't say you're a Christian, but then not agree with his word. That's being a hypocrite..all of it's either true or none of it is. You can't walk the line because God didn't. God doesn't just sit around and let us be 'happy' in sin; he did something, he acted, he died for those people who are lost. So you can't just sit back and watch your son live in sin and believe it's right because that's giving them the okay to do it. It shows more love for Piers to tell his son it's wrong to hopefully save him rather than letting him live in sin. And if everyone did what made them happy then there'd be murderers and liars and sinners everywhere. Thanks Kirk and Jill for being the salt.

Everyone want's to be liked, loved and accepted. so if I were to say to a gay person...you are wrong, and it's a sin, they would get mad at me,and just get so upset. This country is on a downhill slide, and I think that God is,and will take his hand off. God help us ALL! when he does. Just read the Bible people, open your eye's,a nd you mind, and you heart. listen to God for a change...not the Devil, who by the way hate's all of us, and want'snothing more than to see us fail, and die and go to hell. Kirk has become blinded by a book. To be free, it is important that there is no one religion dictating the way we behave. Kirk was all about pushing his own religion upon others. He thinks gay people choose to be gay and would try to change his sons mind if he came out to be gay. He would either encourage or force his own daughter to give birth to the baby of a rapist or due to incest and happily help her raise the child. This is so whacked!! Come on people.. put the bible down and have love, hope and faith in yourselves.

You said "Kirk was all about pushing his own religion upon others". I believe Piers asked him his beliefs on gay marriage. He answered. Piers knew he was a Christian and knew what his beliefs are as far as gay marriage. Kirk was calm and polite, he wasn't pushing anything on anyone. Was he suppose to talk out of both sides of his mouth to make everyone happy? He was an invited guest, which they knew was a Christian, and knew what his responses would be. So some of you don't believe in Christianity, that's your belief and that's all well and good. So many hypocrites here. Bashing him because you don't believe what he believes but he can't state his beliefs because they rub you the wrong way and don't line up with your own? People who are hypocrites must feel superior.

Shane your sense of direction is really sad. Have you ever taken the time to read what is in the Bible? If not, then how can you make a judgement call on it? The Bible is an instructional manual for Christians to live their lives by. It does not represent any particular "religion". In fact, it is the word "religion" that cause so much controversy. If someone is living his or her life in accordance to the Bible, then that person is living a healthy, nonjudgmental, peaceful, loving, and happy life. They have God living through them therefore, they are living God's way not their own. What better way to live life than the way of God. God loves ALL of his Children. And we are ALL his Children. We are the ones with free will to accept him in our hearts. Therefore, it is your decision as to whether you choose to live God's way. God's way has nothing to do with "RELIGION". THAT IS SOMETHING THAT MAN MADE UP. The only requirement to live God's way is to truly accept Jesus in your heart. Only through him can anyone get into Heaven. Once someone truly accepts Jesus in his or her heart, then that person will only desire to live life according to God's word. It is a natural process.

Frankly speaking what is natural is natural. That’s not a personal choice but just what is naturally. The penis has specific biological functions: waste elimination and reproduction. If you choose to use it for something other than what is was designed for that’s your choice. But don’t lie to yourself about it.

Hmmm... What Mr. Cameron and Mr. Limbaugh and other Republicans do not realize is this: Grey-haired older men should not be legislating what women can or cannot do with their bodies.

If Mr. Limbaugh or Kirk Cameron had to have an unwanted baby, more likely than not, there would be abortion on demand 24/7 every day in every major city. It is very easy for Mr. Cameron or Mr. Limbaugh to "talk the talk," and another matter entirely to "walk the walk."

Abortion and contraception is a matter between the woman and her God – no one else, especially the Republicans and conservative Christian Bible thumpers.

Those favoring no abortions should pay into a fund to help support unwanted babies. Unwanted, unloved little ones often grow up to be miscreants, criminals, and very familiar with the criminal justice system. We all end up paying for that.

I wonder how many of Limbaugh’s sponsors made contact with him and gave him an ultimatum, apologize or lose our support… ?? With $$MILLIONS at stake, Mr. Limbaugh probably saw the light at the end of the tunnel fairly quickly…

The truly scary apsect to this is Mr. Cameron and Mr. Limbaugh probably have a driver's license and are registered to vote.

The last thing that I can say is "spot on, Kirk." I'm disgusted by the responses that I've read here. What is destructive and immoral is his type of thinking. I have many friends in the LGBT community (Christian & non) and being gay is not a choice and it was so truly brave of them to come out to their family. Unfortunately, there are parents out there that share Kirk's opinion that do have gay children. My heart goes out to those kids. I prey that they'll have friends and other familial support to remind them that they are loved and that the most important thing is to love who you are, as well.

Why does the media like to instigate irritation in viewers to get a reaction in people? Why doesn't the media focus more on bringing people together – not dividing them?
God commands us to love Him and love others – for a reason. One of the biggest reasons for this, I believe, is because the world would be Eden if we all did this. There would not be any more wars, hunger, abuse, anger/rage, gangs, hatred, violence, etc.
So what if we stopped living our lives by what the "world's" standards are (i.e. majority of votes, or what the majority of the people are doing/saying) and use "love" as the standard – asking ourselves is what I am about to do or say out of love?

get the truth from the source of truth: The Bible. Israel: Apple of God's eye (Zachariah 2:8)
Can a Nation Be Born in a Day? Isaiah asks this unusual question (Isaiah
66:8) knowing that the answer from natural history is "N0" Throughout
history, wars of independence precede the obtaining of national
sovereignty; but in the supernatural history of Israel the answer is a
clear "Yes". As proven on May 14, 1948 when the modern state of Israel
appeared on the world stage, literally "in a day."Why do the nations rage,
and the kings of the earth set themselves together against the Lord.. The
Lord shall have them in derision" (Psalm 2). In spite of whatever man may
try to do to prevent it, the restoration of the Jewish people in, and to,
the Promised Land is guaranteed by Israel's God; so that "all the nations
of the earth "' shall yet be blessed. Listen to Amos: "And I will return
the captivity of my people Israel, and they shall build the waste cities
and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards and drink the wine
thereof; they also shall make gardens and eat the fruit of them. AND I
WILL PLANT THEM UPON THEIR LAND AND THEY SHALL NO MORE BE PULLED UP OUT OF
THEIR LAND .They will soon welcome Jesus Christ, God Himself in human
Flesh and Jewish. The Jewish people are: Apple of God's eye. Jerusalem:
The navel of the earth! On Wednesday (11-9-2011) there was a National
emergency alert test from Washington D.C.? News is Iran will have nuclear
weapons in the coming months. Their leader vows to wipe Israel off the
map, Israel vows to never let that happen. Show down? The key: what will
Russia do? Go against Israel as described in Ezekiel 38-39 or launch a
surprise nuclear attack on the The United States? (Revelation 18?, North
America is about to be attacked with nuclear missiles, you can read the
description for yourself) My opinion and only that: the second (against
America, than Ezekiel 38-39) Thru the Jews we have the knowledge of God,
the Word of God and the Savior of the world (John 3:16) Jesus Christ, God
in human Flesh. Jesus told the religious leaders they were good at
predicting the weather but couldn't recognize the signs of the times, all
thru scriptures people failed to recognize the signs of the times. God has
gathered the elect back to their land in preparation of His return in
Great Glory to set up and rule the earth. The Jews are the apple of God's
eye (Zechariah 2:8) As in the days of Noah so shall the coming of the Son
of man be. Come into the ark of safety which is in Jesus Christ before the
flood of destruction comes upon the earth (John 3:16) for all who trust in
Him. I think any time now things will start to happen, the storm clouds
have been building in the Middle East, so we can surely predict rain!
America will be so caught off guard. Although they may not know it, the
nations jointly, by fighting against Israel, the elect, have set
themselves on a collision course with the God of history (Joel 3:2).

      Sincerely,

      Mark

I believe in the rights of all people. Loving God with all your heart and loving your neighbor as you love yourself are the two highest commands of God. Especially the brother or sister that is different then myself. It is easy to love someone that loves me or believes as I do. The true test is my treatment and love towards others when its hard and they are different. Christ came and sat with the sinners but he did not compromise on truth. As Christians we bend our lives to fit the word we do not bend the word to fit our lives. Let people make their choice. As for me in my house we believe in the lord.

We are not claiming we are perfect, because we sin as well, but we recognize God's forgiveness from that sin and accept him as our Saviour through His blood shed on the cross ... We want to share that with others in a loving way, yet standing firm against sin, because we are commanded to be SEPARATE from the world.

As Barack Obama once said: any argument should be free from religious reasoning. The argument should be valid for all religions and even those who have no religion. Cameron talks about Adam and eve, what about non Christians who can be married outside of a church! Marriage is a legal concept not a religious concept anymore, that theory is as outdated as woman not being allowed to work! Im not gay so this doesn't really effect me but surely peoples minds have grown in the last several million years to realise that very possibly religious text should not be taken for its literal words, if you believe in Adam and eve and agree with the concept do you also agree with incest? In religion its always "prove my imaginary friend doesn't exist" in normal life the person speaking to something that isn't thier is the one to prove that it is!

Of course they did not exist. If you want to go back to the beliefs of 2000 years ago you're denying everything that we have learned since. Taking a stand that Adam and Eve really did exist is the same as arguing that the earth is the center of they universe. If you refuse to accept what man has learned since the times of Jesus, then your complete belief system is flawed and your claims that the Bible is the word of God is just as wrong.

I am shocked, because your usual intelligence was not present. The fact remains that an individual can do what ever they choose to do and it is no ones business (esp Gvt). On the other end tax payers should not have to pay for abortions, STDs etc etc. because it is NOT our business. The exception is education, we must educate out people so they know their choices and the consequences of their choices, but at the end of the day it is their choice and tax payers should not have to pay for someone elses' recreation or procreation.

Why do we want the government to do things that benefit us, but we fail to see how we benefit unless it is spelled out for us. Those people choose to over eat, so they should pay for their own care, not the taxpayer, right? No coverage for smoking related diseases either? Birth control is part of managing a woman's overall health and usually needs to be managed for her entire reproductive life. Vasectomies are covered by most plans. So is erectile dysfunction. Some of you think that being gay is not a choice, but expressing those feelings is...and the more that you express them, the deeper you become entrenched in such behaviors. Yes, some people struggle more with those types of feelings than others, just like I've never really been tempted to knock off a bank or beat a woman. Different people have different behaviors that they choose to act on or not, as they wish...

How about raping boys, abusing children. Who's choice was that. Mmmm, The Pope, The Vatican, and the huge pedophile ring which has molested and abused thousands on children on almost every continent, but is the" moral savior" of us all. I think not!

      James,

You didn't BECOME gay but rather you are choosing to follow that lifestyle, i'm wondering if child molesters should also use that and say I became a child molester.... NO! They chose to do so. At least admit that YOU LIKE men and CHOOSE to follow your lustful desires. Religion aside, man up and admit you chose your lustful desires.

"You didn't BECOME gay but rather you are choosing to follow that lifestyle, i'm wondering if child molesters should also use that and say I became a child molester...."

Being gay is not a choice. I hate to burst any bubbles, but science, in fact, is actually not in dispute on this matter.

All major medical professional organizations concur that sexual orientation is not a choice and cannot be changed, from gay to straight or otherwise. The American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, and European Psychological, Psychiatric, and Medical Associations all agree with this, as does the World Health Organization and the medical organizations of Japan, China, and most recently, Thailand. Furthermore, attempts to change one's sexual orientation can be psychologically damaging, and cause great inner turmoil and depression, especially for Christian gays and lesbians.

Reparative therapy, also called conversion therapy or reorientation therapy, "counsels" LGBT persons to pray fervently and study Bible verses, often utilizing 12-step techniques that are used to treat sexual addictions or trauma. Such Christian councilors are pathologizing homosexuality, which is not a pathology but is a sexual orientation. Psychologically, that's very dangerous territory to tread on. All of the above-mentioned medical professional organizations, in addition to the American and European Counseling Associations, stand strongly opposed to any form of reparative therapy.

In my home country, Norway, reparative therapy is officially considered to be ethical malpractice. But there are many countries that do not regulate the practice, and many others that remain largely silent and even passively supportive of it (such as the Philippines). Groups that operate such "therapy" in the Philippines are the Evangelical Bagong Pag-asa, and the Catholic Courage Philippines.

The scientific evidence of the innateness of homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgenderism is overwhelming, and more peer-reviewed studies which bolster this fact are being added all the time. Science has long regarded sexual orientation – and that's all sexual orientations, including heterosexuality – as a phenotype. Simply put, a phenotype is an observable set of properties that varies among individuals and is deeply rooted in biology. For the scientific community, the role of genetics in sexuality is about as "disputable" as the role of evolution in biology.

On the second point, that there is no conclusion that there is a "gay gene," they are right. No so-called gay gene has been found, and it's highly unlikely that one ever will. This is where conservative Christians and Muslims quickly say "See, I told you so! There's no gay gene, so being gay is a choice!"

Take this interesting paragraph I found on an Evangelical website: "The attempt to prove that homosexuality is determined biologically has been dealt a knockout punch. An American Psychological Association publication includes an admission that there's no homosexual "gene" – meaning it's not likely that homosexuals are 'born that way.'"

But that's not at all what it means, and it seems Evangelicals are plucking out stand-alone phrases from scientific reports and removing them from their context. This is known in academia as the fallacy of suppressed evidence. Interestingly, this is also what they have a habit of doing with verses from the Bible.

This idea of sexuality being a choice is such a bizarre notion to me as a man of science. Many of these reparative "therapists" are basing this concept on a random Bible verse or two. When you hold those up against the mountain of scientific research that has been conducted, peer-reviewed, and then peer-reviewed again, it absolutely holds no water. A person's sexuality – whether heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual – is a very deep biological piece of who that person is as an individual.

The fact that a so-called "gay gene" has not been discovered does not mean that homosexuality is not genetic in its causation. This is understandably something that can seem a bit strange to those who have not been educated in fields of science and advanced biology, and it is also why people who are not scientists ought not try to explain the processes in simple black-and-white terms. There is no gay gene, but there is also no "height gene" or "skin tone gene" or "left-handed gene." These, like sexuality, have a heritable aspect, but no one dominant gene is responsible for them.

Many genes, working in sync, contribute to the phenotype and therefore do have a role in sexual orientation. In many animal model systems, for example, the precise genes involved in sexual partner selection have been identified, and their neuro-biochemical pathways have been worked out in great detail. A great number of these mechanisms have been preserved evolutionarily in humans, just as they are for every other behavioral trait we know (including heterosexuality).

Furthermore, there are many biologic traits which are not specifically genetic but are biologic nonetheless. These traits are rooted in hormonal influences, contributed especially during the early stages of fetal development. This too is indisputable and based on extensive peer-reviewed research the world over. Such prenatal hormonal influences are not genetic per se, but are inborn, natural, and biologic nevertheless.

Having said that, in the realm of legal rights, partnership rights, and anti-discrimination protections, the gay gene vs. choice debate is actually quite irrelevant. Whether or not something is a choice is not a suitable criterion for whether someone should have equal rights and protections. Religion is indisputably a choice, but that fact is a not a valid argument for discriminating against a particular religion.

This is not an issue in dispute. According to modern science: baby, you were born this way.

Rob... with your own comment you are judging people because you are telling them they are the far from God based on what you believe to be true. ALL of us make judgments.

What do you base your judgment on?

See Jesus didn't just say "judge not..." and that's it close the book there you have it, Jesus said not to judge. No that is not what Jesus taught. Jesus taught do not judge in a way that will bring judgment back on yourself. See if I call you liar and then go walk around with a sign that says I am perfect I never lie...then I am deluding myself. That is why Jesus illustrated his point in continuation and in context to what he said. He said how can you with a beam in your eye go and try and tell your brother he has a speck in his? He said to first look in the mirror, remove the beam and then go and HELP your brother if you can with his speck.

People who judge like that will be judged because that kind of ignorant judgement is hypocritical.

The same charge can be made toward those who want to change what Judeo- Christian teachers, scholars, pastors, apostles, prophets and messengers have taught for thousands of years. It isn't just some simple minded blind faith in "God", a God who has engaged man and woman intellectually and relationally for at least 5000 years. At least there is a standard to Christian beliefs... with the relative moral stances of society today any thing goes. Why is it tragic if Cameron expresses his beliefs because he was asked, not because he imposed his view, about what he believes? What is tragic is how the so called 'tolerant' have no idea what that term really means.

Kirk Cameron is an ass. His comments were ignorant, close-minded and prejudice. How could sonone living in this time be so foolish to say such terrible things about gay people. Being gay is no more "unnatural" than being straight. When people come out as gay, they are being natural, they are being themselves and God loves them just as they are. God is love and Kirk Cameron is not seeing gay people with any love like God does, so he is not a good man. Kirk is coming from the perspective of hate and it's people like him that make this world a terrible place.

You must get back to the bible and the Catholic catechism on these issues. We do not kill babies in our faith. We find someone to adopt them. Stop being a cafeteria Catholic. I like this, and I don't like that. LOL! Piers, 4000 babies are aborted per day in this country, and about 40,000 a year. The only thing that will get us out of this moral dilemma is steadfast Christians who follow Jesus Christ. If you do not agree with the teachings of the Catholic church on abortion, etc., convert to another religion that agrees with you. I love our beloved Catholic faith.

    Piers,
You seemed very agitated with Mr Cameron, its unfortunate because it seems that you are not as opened minded as you might profess to be. There did not seem to be a dialogue going on but rather a list of social issues that you wanted to corner him on because you don't agree with his view of the world. So there seemed to be little objectivity in your approach to the interview. If you watch the tape I don't think you smiled much suggesting that you were troubled. You seem to give legitimacy to the notion, "its hard to find a liberal liberal". It seems that interviews with conservative or religious thinkers end up being attempts to portray them as haters rather than just holding a different view, which used to be acceptable in America. When you lose touch with a transcendant set of principles that guide your life then you eventually argue for your own preference over your neighbor which eventually leads to "might makes right"...... its a terrible cycle in human history.

So, under your not so logic, logic – black people should not have stood up for themselves and demanded equality, they were being intolerant? Piers,
Why is it, that as soon as a professing Christian comes on your show you shrink what they have to say to the answer to two questions only; "What do you think of gay marriage?" and "How do you feel about abortion?"

Surely Christians, along with all of your others guests, have more to say than their sound bite sized answers to these two questions.

You are so exceptional at interviewing people, and have such interesting personalities on your show, and yet rather than view Christians as whole people with many topics and feelings to discuss you, like so many other journalists, railroad the conversation towards these two topics, diminishing the integrity and scope of the interview.

Thank you for your good work, you are an excellent journalist and very enjoyable to watch, I would simply ask that you make every effort to accord Christians the freedom to express their views as whole people rather than religious stereotypes.

    Kind regards,

I think if Kirk would have answered directly, Pierce would have respected him for it. Kirk said gay marriage was unnatural, along with other words, but he did not call it a sin. Why are so many Christians afraid of saying something is a Sin? You know he believes it is, why not say so?

  26. Objective?

Whew....what a blood bath, and it makes me sad.
I began watching and ENJOYING Piers' show because I "thought" that he was not overly emotional, didn't inflame situations, tried to show some "objectivity," and gave some balance to his interviews and thought that is had some "educational" benefit. Sadly, this evening's show FELL COMPLETELY short of that.
If one would read what Piers was thinking, based on his questions and his behavior, I would imagine he was saying to Kirk Cameron, "you are a moron. Anyone who could think or hold these views is barbaric and an idiot. I can't believe I'm having to interview this person, I dismiss him completely." The end, as it was cutting to commercial, was almost PAINFUL to watch, the utter disgust and disregard.
ps. please don't use the fact that you are not a "citizen" of this country as a "get out of jail free card" to position yourself as someone who does not have an agenda

Objective – Whilst Piers is the show host, he also has his own opinion, and I think it would be a totally boring show if he didn't inject some of his own agenda into the show. . . He was DEFINITELY saying that Kirk Cameron is a moron. And Piers doesn't use his non citizenship as a "get out of jail card" . . . He uses his intelligence to show these bigots and religious fundamentalists for the crazies that they are . . . . And Piers is a Catholic, yet he too can see through all the BS. . . Makes me glad that I gave up my imaginary friend at a young age . . .

You are not calling Kirk an idiot , you are calling God an idiot, Kirk is just practicing the word of God almighty the one who created you. Read 1: 26-27 and corinthians 6; verse 9-10. God is the creator of the whole world. John 3; 16-17. FOR GOD SO LOVE THE WORLD,THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVE IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

17; FOR GOD SENT NOT HIS SON INTO THE WORLD TO CONDEMN THE WORLD , BUT THAT THE WORLD THROUGH HIM MIGHT BE SAVED. KEEP READING VERSE 18 -21. Remember that Jesus loves you ,he can give you peace and joy.

Or do you throw away the Bible completely and somehow just invent your own God, which somehow is called Christianity?

Wow, it is so irritating how many people speak of the Bible without having any real knowledge of it. The Bible is a history book and you have to know the history of that time to understand it. Slavery was a culture thing in those times, it not a culture thing now. The Bible teaches how to love one another and how to live in peace in a society of people. This society could use some lessons too!! And how husbands treat their wives is addressed in the Bible and they are told to LOVE their wives as Christ LOVES the church, which means they are to be willing to lay down thier lives for them. Society's view seems to be "Bang her till something better comes along." Thanks but no thanks, the Bible is the way for me.

LOL, Mr. Washington. You actually believe that story is real and not just a fable? The year is 2012, not 1012. If we're going to start taking the Bible literally, then we must return to slavery, we must return to stoning woman that get pregnant out of wedlock, we must return to the primitive state mankind was at when the laws of the land were cast as "The word of God" in order to install a fear and ultimately compliance from the simple people of the time. The Bible is merely a moral code dreamed up by ancient people who used a "God" in order to justify the unexplainable.

There is more evidence in this world of there being a God than there not being a God. If you don't beleive me, go searching, and you will find it. Stop listening to what people tell you and find out for yourself. I did and I was not disappointed.

Wellllll........it's all going to come out in the wash, now isn't it? I, too, believe in Jesus......after I asked "the universe" a long time ago, "Will the REAL God please stand up?" Gay marriage, abortion, and other issues will boil down to us as individuals when we meet our maker. Each human being is responsible for his/her own decisions. And being a Christian, by the way, is not based on anything except saying YES to GOD'S offer for redemption, and accepting God's invitation for a close relationship with him, through the Holy Spirit. My prayer is that whoever reads this comment will think about God and ask the same thing: "Will the REAL God please stand up"? God bless you!

Mr. Cameron believes like so many others that the primary founders were fans of Christianity. They can't make the correlation with King, James, and most have never heard the word "deist". Yes my children. The founders were horrified by the damage that organized religion historically wreaked upon the world, and believed in a "Creator" that set the wheels in motion and let us mortals figure it out. Their "Creator" had nothing to do with the affairs of man. They believed in a creator, but no confounding dishonest organized religion that by design is fundamentally corrupt. Thank you for listening.

It's quite possible that Kirk won't be found to have a boy lover hidden somewhere in a motel room, like so many other evangelists. What you read in the media? There are people who do sick things and call themselves christians, and that is heartbreaking for those of us that are truly trying to follow Christ. But the truth is people sometimes call themselves christians without having a clue what christianity is. Just read some of the comments in this blog, including yours. After tonight's episode of Piers Morgan, I will never again watch the show. What a bigot Piers is! This is the problem with America! All of the sudden, freedom to practice religion has become only a govt mandate (though now marginally), while the "liberal" left has completely lost reverence...though this is only targeted at Christianity. Tonight, CNN proved that with the interview with Cameron. (side note, has anyone ever seen a Christian on CNN not be treated like a second-class citizen? The hosts can't even give them the benefit of the doubt and allow them their opinion!) Piers is a hypocrite!!!!! He pretty much preached "fairness" to Cameron, while he told Cameron he didn't have the right to think the way he did....that he was just stupid. Sounds fair.

BTW, Cameron was right. We have our own standards, and they either come from our head (what we think) or God (if you believe that). Regardless, calling Christians bigots missing the whole point and is actual the opposite of what a liberal supposedly stands for. We see Piers only believes in his opinion, and would rather insult those that dont fit into his mold. Again, tonight was the last night. And I will be telling all of my Christians friends as well.

Okay, so I want to be sure I understand this marriage thing. God created Adam and Eve and this was the first marriage, and they were the only people on Earth. They were fruitful and multiplied and then they and their children were the only people on Earth. Then their children married their brothers and sisters, and through incest they populated the Earth. This was God's idea of holy matrimony. So gay marriage is an abomination, but how about incest? Can I still marry my Sister or is that no longer permissible?

It still amazes me how a "Christian", who supposedly follows the bible, the ten commandments, etc., still believes they reserve the right to judge another human being. I still do not understand the belief that a "Christian" can beat the heck out of his wife, and "God" will still forgive him. Yet a man will fall in love with another man, do good in his community, and cause no harm to another living being, but he is going to "Hell" in the eyes of a "Christian." Maybe that is why I left the church when I was only 13 years old. I refused to believe in a set of rules where certain people were considered "better" than others. To me, even at such a young age, I saw just how WRONG that set of ideals was.

i thought the questions were fair. when you are preaching so openly, and decide to go on a talk show, you should be prepared for hard hitting questions. telling people they can't do this and can't do that because you read the bible, or more importantly decided to use the bible as a tool to use against something that doesn't fit in your perfect world, is absurd. you can tell how delusional and insecure he is by how defensive he got. i've also noticed that with most of these types of christians it is only certain parts of the bible they choose to take literally and push in peoples faces. ultimately it's selfish and counter productive. it's not about attacking religion, but the ignorant beliefs you are trying to spout at other people for no good reason. leave people alone and stop trying to make people ashamed of themselves for their personal choices because differences upset your cookie cutter life. that is why the majority of people can't keep a cool head when people like kirk cameron start to talk.

Saying that something is legalised in 7 states has nothing to do with any religious moral view of whether it is a sin or not. State regulation and moral values have rarely walked side by side. This is such a weak argument. State regulation of rights and wrongs is simply not based on a religious moral view of sin. It's a non-point.

Christianity IS amazing in that it has such a long history AND it has more than weathered the significant changes in it's doctrine to go with the times. The religion would be virtually unrecognizable in it's original form to a practicing member today. It would actually seem incredibly barbaric and backward actually. The main truth is that no matter how you put it there is absolutely NO proof that God or gods in ANY form exist. It is all a matter of personal belief. I find it absolutely incredible and disheartening that so many people in the modern countries still believe in omnipotent old men in the sky who see all and are awaiting a final day of atonement. Kirk Cameron is one of MANY deluded fools who need to crack the most basic of science texts and get a clue as to how the universe was ACTUALLY formed. Kirk! Read some Hitchens, some Dawkins, maybe Harris! You might realize how much of your life has been wasted on fairy tales! Grimms Bros is more believable than the Bible!
Generally I don't disparage, but I make exceptions for ignorant people who cannot keep their mouths shut in public forum. Yes, I know that he was invited but so were my comments.

Kirk is not a washed up kiddie-TV has been, he has been acting in many christian movies, they just aren't movies you'll see on the bill boards. Which is something is to be respected in my book. He is a good actor and could have been in popular movies but chose not to sell his soul to Hollywood for the sake of money and fame. I am really amazed at how opinionated so many people are when they don't have the right facts.

Pierce I was disappointed with the way you treated Kirk on your show. I watched when you interviewed Chris Christie, and how the Governor was rude, disrespectful, blunt and even condescending toward you and you kind of just smiled and laughed it off. At times, it even seemed that the Governor was the one who was in charged. Kirk was the complete opposite. He was nice, repectful and answered all your questions, yet you were somewhat rude to him. It was obvious you did not like hearing what he had to say. Right before the commercial break you wouldn't even look at him, look on your face was unpleasant. I like watching your show and was very disappointed with last nights airing. Kirk is a good guy give him a chance! And then please ask yourself, why did you act that way?

Thank you, Kirk. I'm so glad there are people who will stand up for what is right. We live in a society where everyone is becoming so desensitized, and the line between what is right and what is wrong is becoming a big, grey area. Marriage between a man and a woman was ordained of God. The very purpose of this life is to be apart of and to create a family of our own to love and to nurture through life. One of the most-wonderful things you can ever experience in this life is holding a sweet baby that you and your wife took part in creating. THAT is one of the main reasons we are here on the earth; to experience parenthood and to become more like our Heavenly Father though it. Every person on this earth has a biological mother and father, because that's the only way it works and that's the only way that God intended it to be.

So under your version of Christianity, these people do not provide any value and are seen as less than in Gods eye? You are the real threat to the Christian faith and God makes it very clear how He feels of those who pretend to speak for Him by judging others. Moron!

Haha. Well, first of all, thank you for the name-calling. That says a lot about you, your argument, and point-of-view. But also, I never said anything about people who are unable to have children. For them there are many ways to have the same joy and satisfaction in raising a family through adoption. It's unfortunate that some people can't have children, but they try and find other ways to have a family if it's not possible.
But like I said, marriage is ordained between a husband and wife. No greater joy can be attained in this life than through wholesome and uplifting family relationships between parents and children (birthed or adopted). It's just the most important thing. Nothing else even comes close to mattering as much.

Someone should remind Cameron that after Adam & Eve, there were many plural marriages. So he should stop saying God defined marriage as between 1 man and 1 woman since God never told anyone anything of the sort. Also, if everyone descended from Adam & Eve, there must have been some incest going on. If God was omnipotent and omniscient, he must condone what is going on. If not, then either (1) he is powerless to change people away from what Cameron believes is correct, in which case God is not omnipotent, or (2) God just isn't interested in what we do, so people shouldn't bother even praying because God doesn't care.

lad, would it not be interesting if after death there was a judgement of you and then you find out that the bible was a trick? Then, the real god asks you: "so you believed it was righteous for those who did not believe in Jesus, someone such as Gandhi, that they should be tormented in hell for eternity?". "You condoned slavery, genocide and execution for the most frivolous offenses? You believed in ridiculous rules, believed in myth over scientific evidence and did not notice all the biblical contradictions?" But you know what, then that god forgives you and allows you into heaven along with the rest of the human race thus proving he/she is truly just unlike the travesty that is the deity in the bible. Now that would be amazing to see.

How many civil wars have broken out because of us? NONE. Every war, every problem on this earth boils down to the religious freaks that dominate and destroy this planet. A life without religion is a life that is truly lived. Religion is just a way to control people, and I'm glad I'm not a part of us. Religion is for naive losers.

Wow. Many of these comments are downright vicious. When did it become okay in society to name call, beat down and verbally attack another person for voicing their opinions and beliefs?

Piers had to know he was opening up a giant can of worms when he started that line of questioning. Kirk handled it quite well. He was honest and truthful in his answers. He is a Christian man who obviously loves his family very much. How him and his wife choose to raise their children is their business and theirs alone.

For the nasty commenters: now, before you start calling me a bible-thumper or crazy Christian... I have friends that are gay. I do not judge others for the choices they make. But who are you to judge Kirk like that? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

You may not believe in God and that is your choice. I do believe 100% though that when you are eventually facing death that most likely will change. I am not wishing you harm. As a nurse I have seen this happen many times firsthand as people were dying.

Personally, I find it difficult to entertain anything said by someone as ineloquent as this Kirk Cameron. Not to mention his scarce knowledge on the history of marriage. Yes, everyone would like to envision marriage as a union between a man and a woman that is sanctioned by God. However, as convenient as it may be to fabricate history in a manner that compliments one's beliefs, marriage predates Christian religions. When polytheism was the more predominant sect of religious beliefs, they too engaged in unions, but they were far less romantic. The majority of individual may wish to believe that marriage is as old as "dirt" and Christianity somehow has dibs on it, but it has been used for thousands of years to join nations. It was intended to secure a nation's security through wealth and power which was procured through the union of powerful individuals. That "pop" you just heard, is the bubble bursting for all the delusional bigots out there. And those that conspire to use religion as a scape goat and to limit the rights of others.

No. You want to DO what YOU want to do. That's why you've rejected God. You are placing yourself above Him.

Marriage has always followed God:s definition, between a man and a woman. Both gay and straight people have the same right to ask God for healing of their sins.

The problem lies in the fact that you WANT to keep sinning. Don't put the blame for YOUR decision on others. You are trying to make the others accept sin so that YOU feel better about it and to get others to do it as well, so that they too will fall away.

Kirk was brought on the show to talk about his views on some of America's cultural issues. Whether or not you were offended by his personal beliefs, he merely stated them. I am an athiest (grew up in a Baptist home/private Baptist school) and in no way agree with him, but making blanket statements about Christians (and/or "Christians") is unfair and unkind. All teachings of Christ center around grace and humility and any true follower (most who claim to have a true relationship with Christ/Jesus) put those values over EVERYTHING else. It's unfortunate that those who feel THEIR version of God is one that put them on this earth to be hold an ugly mirror to everyone they come across is giving Christians their mean and frankly UNGodly reputation. Hats off to those big enough to choose love over hate and discipleship (teaching by example) over condemnation. Maybe one of these days a church official and/or just some brave soul willing to stand with their Brothers and Sisters in Christ with the message that they are of equal value to their God...not that a story like that would ever make it to the news.

he is not saying gay people are serial killers, he is saying Piers' logic on how he engages his children's choices is messed up. I know people who respond to their children like this and it is mainly because they don't care what they do. Kudos to Kirk for caring enough about all six of his children to be involved with their life and take time to discuss their feelings and choices.

Piers Morgan is nothing but a jerk, he knew what to expect from Cameron in regards to that topic. Besides is 7 more than 43? Just in case Morgan does not know how to substract, I would like to let him know that if 7 states have agreed, 43 have not, and as far as I know 43 is more than 7. Also, what is GLAAD complaining about? they are always asking for tolerance, then they should be an example of such and stop attacking a person just because he has a different opinion.

People are allowed to have different opinions than the opinion that is being shoved down everyone's throat. Cameron shouldn't be demonized just because he has a differing opinion on this social issue that is obviously a personal one for everyone. Morgan practically forces it out of him, and I think Cameron answered honestly and calmly, as opposed to Morgan who got more and more heated. He didn't even as Cameron why he thinks its detrimental to society- that's a pretty big statement. A good reporter would ask why.

I am tired of the so-called liberal viewpoints which are definitely destructive in today's society. I am glad that CNN/Piers Morgan interviewed Kirk Cameron, not sure what their motive was, but it was refreshing to see an actor voice what a large majority of average Americans believe.

Personally, if they're gay, that's their deal, but I do NOT agree with gay marriage. I hear some people criticize that stance because the world today is different, and is changing. True, it is, but one thing that has not changed is God's word. When god says it's ok, I'll be ok with it.

Piers asked, and Cameron gave an honest answer. He is to be commended. Since most people follow the religion of secular humanism, they declare themselves to be their own authority. However, this is not the way the world was set up. God's standards are the absolute authority. No random person or society gets to call the shots. We would all call evil good if left to our own foolishness.

Michael, everyone does deserve everything they want so long as they go out and earn it, it's consensual, and don't harm people in the process. And it's ignorant to compare dogs and people marrying to gay people. Gay people have a consensual relationship, whereas a person would be forcing a different species to be with them.

Kirk does have the right to his own opinion. As so do I.

I believe to use a religion to force values on someone is morally not right at all. This country practices the freedom to believe whatever you want to believe in. Even people who believe in the same exact religion have different view points (a reason why there are so many different types of Christian churches). There's a reason why the church is separated from the state and it needs to stay that way or people would be slaves (yes, I said slaves) under values they don't believe in, and that's not what this country was based on. And with all due respect, if the government is going to get to the point where laws are based on a specific religion, then those churches very well need to pay their fair share of taxes.

As far as gay marriage, why not let them get married? These are two people who engage in a completely consensual relationship. This is their business and their business ONLY. And if God is involved, it's between them and God ONLY. You might look at this as a sin, but aren't we all sinners in the eyes of God? And aren't all sins the same? EVERY SINGLE PERSON sins EVERY SINGLE DAY. It's completely hypocritical to judge someone when you are just as much as a sinner as what they are. I'm sure you wouldn't want someone pointing out what they consider your sin and for you to change or you're going to burn in hell every single day, would you? I think not, because what's between you and God is between you and God. If gay marriage bothers you THAT badly, then that's your own issue that you need to deal with personally, or with God, or whatever you believe in. Telling someone to fix themselves (especially when it's consensual and harmless) because it bothers you is self righteous, self-centered, and egotistical.

And I think people need to slack off of Piers. Does he not have a right to his own views as well? He was obviously really fired up about something he whole heartedly believes in. Thats like asking a woman reporter not to show emotion when interviewing a man who believes women shouldn't have the same rights as men. It's completely and utterly ridiculous.

    March 5, 2012 at 2:56 pm | Report abuse | Reply
  129. Courtney

Furthermore, being gay is so much further from destructive compared to other issues this country is dealing with right now. You want to talk about destructive? Teaching children to tell other children they're going to burn in hell for their lifestyle or that their parents are going to burn in hell for their lifestyle is hatred, it's bullying, and it's bigotry. Even if you put your opinion in a "nice" way (which I don't see is in anyway possible, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt), you are making these people feel worthless and that their life isn't worth living so they might as well end it since they are going to burn in hell anyways. There are way too many people committing suicide, including children. It needs to stop.

Hmm, I wouldn't give Kirk the pleasure of stating that people are hating him. I don't think that's the case at all. Nobody hates him for having an opinion, or even that he's a Christian. I've read quite a few responses that I would define as hateful. Please help me understand how speaking up about his beliefs is forcing his values on other people. I've heard plenty of people speak the opposite opinion, and I don't believe they're forcing that on me. They're just stating an opinion that is opposite of mine.

I don't know why, Erin, but it's not giving you a "reply" button, so I'm having to reply to my own comment. So, if it looks messed up, I apologize.

But, anyway, just because something appears as "hateful" doesn't mean that he is "hated." Just like I'm sure a lot of people think that him stating that being gay is detrimental and destructive is hateful (which it is incredibly insulting), it doesn't mean that Kirk "hates" gay people. And by all means, him saying that pretty much defines where he stands on gay marriage and what he wants to see happen with that. And by forcing two people who want to be together not to be together, is forcing unwanted values.

I always find it interesting how one can voice his views, in a clear, non violent or malicious way and still be crucified by some. Kirk stated his views and was not hateful or insulting. He didn;t say :"Gays should die and are going to hell" No, he stated his views based on his beliefs and I respect him for it. It's all the gays and pro gay marriage advocates that have lost class for attacking him. If you want others to respect your gay choice of life, please learn to respect and understand that there are people who just don;t agree with it, but that does not mean they hate gay people. I think that is the point that is missed here. I hear more gays being nasty to non gay marriage advocates than vice versa. Prime example, Perez Hilton's disgusting and offensive reaction to Ms Prejeans answer at the Miss America. Google his reaction and then watch how Prejean answered his question on the Ms America, and see who is the real hateful person of the 2.

There is certainly something to be said about your argument. However, hateful speech doesn't have to be transparent. There are plenty of individuals, like Kirk Cameron, that do a beautiful job at illustrating prejudice without so much as a subtle mention. Granted, I doubt referring to gay marriage and couples as “detrimental” and “destructive” is a gracious way of expressing your opinion. Let’s not forget, one doesn’t have to be violent in order to voice opinions that are, in every way, demoralizing and abhorrent. After all, I could just as easily, with said calm disposition, call you a deficient waste of organic life that scars the very moral fabric of our society. I must admit, it is quite eloquently said, but fairly hurtful nonetheless. Oh, and don’t forget, I said it non-violently!

Elizabeth, weren't you made aware? Individuals like Kirk Cameron are not bound by moral decency or individual integrity. Hypocrisy is only present when it contradicts their own point of view, which is often times utilized for demoralizing effect. In an ideal world, one in which they control, they can superimpose their personal beliefs on all citizens despite controversy. Because everyone has to view the world under a lens similar to Kirk Cameron and those alike. Diverse opinions and lifestyles are unacceptable. And if not, they will certainly scour the holy text to substantiate their claims. Regardless of whether it makes any logical sense.

People do accept Christians. If they didn't, you wouldn't have the freedom to believe in the Christian faith. But just as well as you have your opinions, others have theirs. In this case, the Christian faith is very discriminating towards this lifestyle, so of course this is going to be a hot topic and people are going to debate.

I agree Amy!!! Isn't isn't it sad that today's society acts like little children...they don't like "rules" so they purposely go against them??? (have tantrums and rant) There was a reason for God giving His children instructions...just as we instruct our kids.

AMEN!! I also think that in our society it is all about instant gratification and not about restraint. It is a me society with no boundaries! I believe in loving the sinner and not the sin as Jesus taught us, but it is very hard when you are raising a child in this society today. It is hard to teach them how to be good and moral people when all around them society is telling them everything is ok. It is on every show they watch now, even ABC Family. I can't put my daughter in a bubble, that is not reality! I have to approach it as a teaching moment and explain everything as I feel Jesus would thorough his word!

Why is it okay for religious people to have freedom of speech, but it's not okay for a gay person to have freedom of expression/emotions? When will this country learn that we've separated church and state for a reason. FINE, we won't call it marriage, but for the sake of acceptance and peace, allow civil unions!

Piers will tell his son "It's okay if you're gay, as long as you're happy"
That sounds like the moral highground. But Mr. Piers, what if your son said:

    "Dad, I've started smoking crack"

Do you, Mr. PIers, tell your son "It's okay to smoke crack, as long as you're happy"

I doubt you would sir. Just because your son, or daughter, does something that makes them happy, doesn't mean you can just be irresponsible, turn the other cheek, and just let them and pretend that makes you a better man then anyone else.

Every man and woman turns gay. I'm sure this is many people's dreams. Well, how do we produce offspring? Hm? To encourage anything that threatens the continuation of our species? I fail to understand how you sleep at night Piers.

This is not a question if you believe in the bible but do you believe Jesus Christ died for your sins? That Jesus Christ is King of King and Lord of Lords. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God." but you can know him as Lord and Savior if you just repent and ask make him lord of your life.

Ginger, I don't believe you grasped what Shellie was saying. You have every right to live a life in fear of smiting and a fear that you're innately a terrible sinner despite any kind and good-natured behavior. However, you have no right to demoralize and degrade others to further your convictions. And you certainly do not have the right, this includes anyone who may identify as "religious," to superimpose your personal values on others. I am not entirely sure why you even wrote what you did, as it clearly doesn't argue any particular point. Obviously, if you trust that Jesus is your savior than you place value in the bible. Not everyone needs too, though. There are many religious orientations and spiritual belief systems and it is within no one's authority to dictate whether they're just or not.

I am not out to argue any point but to point you and other to only one who can save you and give true peace and that is Jesus Christ. I accepted him as Lord and Savior when I was 20 years old, that has been 30 years ago and what a blessing it has been. God wants us to bring glory to him and tell others about him. I pray you come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. What I don't ujnderstand is how one can look at his creation and deny his existence. I am a scuba diver and when I am diving and see the beauty below it is breath taking. All I can say is Thank you Jesus for giving the ability to view the beauty below as well as on earth. I promise you live will forever be changed if you live it for him. I am commanded to go into the world and tell other of Christ Love. John 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," Matthew 28:19

Honestly, I am unsure as of how to respond to your comment. Oh, and don't flatter yourself, nothing about it was either logical or sound. I suppose it is difficult to respond to anything with such poor reasoning, especially considering your scuba diving example. Sorry to break this to you, Ginger, but by simply saying God created the coral reef and justifying that reason with its beauty is not an argument. I could just as easily say that coral are evolved organisms that produce exoskeletons in a colony fashion, simulating large structural objects on the ocean floor. However, the difference is that much what I said is supported by scientific evidence. The only item you can provide as proof of your argument is the Bible which is, news flash, written by man. If man is innately sinful, as you mentioned in your earlier post, wouldn’t that suggest that sin has also impacted the writings of the Bible? What reasoning is there to exclude the Bible from the taint of sin, as it is, as I said, written by man? With that said, you most certainly are posing an argument for the existence of God, as you are verbalizing opposition to my statements.

I am not interested in arguing. I can only share with you what God has done in my life and how it changed me. You will die someday. I can only pray that when you stand before God and should ask you "why should I let you into my heaven" you will have the answer. I will be praying for you. God Bless.

Alaric. You have the right to your beliefs just as anyone else does. We all possess the right of freedom of speech as well as the right to free will. Nobody can force us to accept what we choose not to believe. That is what makes this country such a great place for us to live. But on the other hand, just because you have made the choice to not believe in God does not excuse you from making disrespectful remarks about the Bible. Yes, I said disrespectful because to assume that God can't possibly exist because man wrote down the words is in fact disrespectful. Of course man wrote the words. But what you fail to understand is that God gave man the words to write down. You don't have to believe this but it is indeed rude to ridicule people who do. I am a Christian and choose to believe and follow God's word according to what he has dictated to man. The Bible is our instructional manual so that we don't have to wander around confused on what he expects of us. There is nothing in it that is of a harmful nature. Before I accepted Christ, I was a lost soul wandering around with all sorts of troubles. And I mean that literally. At one time I was even homeless with no money or food. Once I opened my heart up to him, I began receiving Blessings. I am not going to lie and say that my life has not had troubles. Because that is the way of the world. But I don't worry over them anymore. I don't have to. They are always taken care of in the long run. I can live a life happy, at peace, and worry free. This is how I get to live every day now. I couldn't be happier. The joy I feel is so wonderful. I never want it to go away and I know it won't because I have God to take care of me. All I know is what I can see and I see the Blessings everyday. My nephew nearly died from cancer when he was a baby. The doctors said to not expect him to survive. We all prayed and believed. He is now 14 and totally cancer free. That is why we believe. If that isn't a Blessing, I don't know what is. God has been such a wonderful father to us all. Therefore we are not about to abandon him simply because others feel we are wrong. It is your choice to believe what you want. All I know is what I have experienced and seen for myself. I never want to go back where I was. Back then, all I wanted to do was die. Now, all I want to do is live and celebrate each day thanking God for all he has provided as I give back to others. I love paying it forward. It is so much fun helping others in need. My biggest joy is the ability to Bless others. I wouldn't be able to do this if God didn't give me the gifts that he does. I can promise you it has been a lot and each day he gives us more and more. He loves giving to his children. All he asks in return is obedience and love. Isn't that what our earthly parents expect of us? They like to give gifts to their children. I know I do. And trust me, the gifts God gives far exceed any that our parents could possibly afford. Ask and you shall receive as long as you are faithful to the Lord. Anyhow, he gave us all free will because he isn't going to make us be faithful. He doesn't want robots. Therefore you have the right to believe what you want and live the way you choose to. The only thing is that unless you give your life to Christ, you will never receive the Kingdom of God. But since you don't believe anyway, I guess it doesn't matter for you. Personally, I feel it is better to believe and be wrong then to not believe and be wrong. It doesn't hurt anyone to believe especially if it provides them with joy and peace. What could be better than that? I wouldn't trade anything in this world for it. God Bless you.

Yes Shellie you do have the right to not believe. But having someone tell you about how wonderful God is is simply a way for us to share our joy and happiness with others. Sorry if it offends you. We as Christian only want the best for our fellow man. God made Heaven and he wants us all to be there with him but it can not happen unless we give ourselves to Christ. I am sorry you feel the way you do. You will never be able to experience the wonderful feelings of blissfulness until you experience the moment that you allow Christ into your heart. I have never felt such freedom, peace, happiness, and joy. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am so happy I found God before it was too late for me. I am so truly Blessed in so many ways. I pray that someday you may find the same joy because the way I see it is; it is better to believe and be wrong than not believe and be wrong. If hell does exist...eternity is a long time to be there.

Theresa, from the way you talk, it seems like you assume that I'm not a Christian. Thanks for asking if I was or not, and I'll continue to let you assume.

I've studied the Bible through and through. What bothers me is that Christians pick and choose what they want to enforce. There are soooo many sins and soooo many abominations in the Bible, but only a few are mentioned and the rest overlooked. What about working on Sunday? What about women not being allowed to be the head of the church? What about eating pork? What about women who are on their monthly cycle not being allowed to step foot into a holy place? I could go on and on. My point is, either enforce it all and play God here on earth, or overlook what other people do, keep your relationship with God between you and God, let other's keep their relationship with God be between them and God, and let God handle it, which is the way it's supposed to be in the first place. We are not the ultimate judge, therefore we have no right to tell people what to do as long as it's not harming other people.

Besides, I think telling someone that they're gonna burn in hell for their lifestyle isn't exactly my idea of telling someone how loving God is.
& don't act like my life is miserable because you assume I don't have God. You don't know me, & you don't know if I do or not, so I'll continue to let you assume. My life is perfect to me. I have a loving Husband, a wonderful family, & great friends. If there's one thing I know about myself, is that I love ALL people. I don't care if you're gay, straight, transgender, male, female, what religion you believe in, what nationality you are, what you look like, how much you weigh, etc. If someone has a good heart, they are not to be overlooked. If their lifestyle is completely consensual, makes them happy, & doesn't harm me & other people, then it's no place for me to tell them that they're wrong, especially when there's no solid proof that it is.
We live in a modern world & it's time to start showing some tolerance & acceptance. We have the capability to coexist in situations like this. But comments like Kirk's & the lack of tolerance holds us back & doesn't allow us to move forward. It's heart breaking. You don't have to like the lifestyle. Just like Atheists don't like religion, but they tolerate it. Every different religion conflict with one another (even certain denominations within the same religion), but they tolerate one another (for the most part). Geez, I think flowers & plants on furniture is tacky, but I don't tell people how to decorate because they have different taste than me. It's time to show tolerance & respect.
Like an old saying states, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Plain and simple......many Americans fear the values that Christians hold because it makes them out to be wrong. No one likes to be wrong. However, one day we will all stand(or lay face down) at the feet of our maker! If the Christians are wrong and there is no God, then they will have led a life of kindness and caring and a high moral standard and there will be nothing to regret. If the Christians are right and God does exist and everything the Bible says is true.....then all those who rebelled against the biblical truths, you will tremble in fear knowing where that led you! You can continue to pretend that God is not real, that He will not judge you for your "choices" but one day you will have to face the truth and that will be a very sad day! It is my earnest desire that we have a true revival in this country, that people stop being so morally warped and that people stop fighting against God and quit excusing sin as someones choice. History books prove that Jesus was real, that He walked on this earth, scientist have tried to prove the Bible wrong, only to prove it right. I say keep up the bold faith Kirk! We should all be so bold to stand up for the truth! AMEN!

These are Kirk Cameron's views based off of his life experiences, religion, and personal convictions. Obviously, if you're not a Christian you're not going to side with Kirk. Kirk's views don't change who or what you are. Why are people so concerned with one man's views. We all have opinions. Opinions are like buttholes; everybody has one. We're not always going to agree 100% on everything. Keep living your life and as Kirk said, live according to your standards. You have that right. This is America. So long as your actions don't interfere with another person's liberties, you can pursue life, liberty, and happiness.

Leviticus 18-22. Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 18-23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Why can't we see the wisdom in these verses. Even if you don't believe in the bible can' you believe in the family. I am not trying to judge any ones lifestyle I just don't understand why we want to change the meaning of marriage after thousands of years. If two men or two women won't to become united let them come up with a new name for that union.

Mr. Morgan. It an interview the comedian, Mr. Black, you said that Kirk Cameron HATED gays. If I recall correctly, not once did he say this! As Christians, we love sinners but hate the SIN. We are not claiming we are perfect, because we sin as well, but we recognize God's forgiveness from that sin and accept him as our Saviour through His blood shed on the cross ... We want to share that with others in a loving way, yet standing firm against sin, because we are commanded to be SEPARATE from the world.

What a creep. He was too Lazy to think about life when he was young, (Just because you don't believe in God, doesn't mean you're an atheist some people were just too lazy and stupid to think about it) When he finally does think about it his personal opinion is for Evangelicalism and now this idiot wants to force his personal opinion on everybody else.
Marriage has been defined by wedding vowes for the last 150 years. If anyone is changing the definition of marriage it these evangelical creeps. American evangelicals are just bad people.

I thought Piers was Aggressive towards Kirk, You know before you interview someone who Walks the Walk,& Talks the Talk YOU should have educated yourself .the only fool was you. You did it so Beautifully that I prayed that the Blinders be removed from YOUR EYES. God Bless Kirk Cameron for standing on the WORD and not being overcome by the World.

Kirk, I think the problem comes from not reading God's word. Seems as though people want to change His word to fit what they want. Pray, read your Bible and know God's Word! Thank you Kirk for your standing firm on God's Word!
