Piers Morgan to Michele Bachmann: "Michele, you've got to occasionally answer some of my questions"

This evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes Congresswoman Michele Bachmann for an intense tête-à-tête, as both parties battle for a verbal upper-hand.

When Rick Santorum's recent college comments are reviewed, the host suggest his guest is dodging his inquiries:

"Michele, you've got to occasionally answer some of my questions," pleads Piers Morgan.
"OK. I am," promises Bachmann.
"Force yourself," he presses.
"I am," she insists.
"You're not," he continues.
"I am," she announces.

Watch the preview clip, and tune in this evening at 9 p.m. ET/PT to see who wins the war of words, and hear what Morgan says that leaves Bachmann calling him "rude."

Morgan's a weasel. To have Lewis Black on after Bachman to mock not only her but all Christians and her husband as well, then chortle with Black about all the republican candidates shows that his insistence that he's not a leftist was clearly disingenuous. He also was trying to deflect the criticism he got for his comments about what his guest said on last Friday's show. A weasel, plain and simple. I look forward to the day his show is cancelled.

Agreed. I enjoy a lively debate, regardless which side of the party the participants represent. However, I found it reprehensible that Morgan waited until after Bachmann left and could no longer defend herself to begin mocking and slandering her views. I have always enjoyed Piers Morgan's show but doubt I will ever watch it again after his display last night.

Mr. Smith,..... and I will look forward to the end of the FOX network period, speaking of weasal mouths, judgmental and arrogant, trouble makers. This extreme right wing mindset that prevails with some of the Republican politicians thinking they are speaking for the millions of voters out there is becoming most irritating. And especially the ones who use Religion as a weapon; they in fact are the dangerous ones. On a global scale it is embarassing to say the least since there are no real credible candidates among any of them to begin with (quoted on BBC). Yes, you can call Piers whatever you like, but perhaps it's time to take a little medicine back. This woman, god help any American, if she had gotten elected as a final nominee for the Oval Office. And speaking about who is the rude one here? Oh please!! She is some piece of work. I cannot for the life of me understand how a country supposedly the strongest, most powerful country in the world can have such extreme "backward" thinking. Hopefully, this next generation will eventually change that.

Michele Bachmann disgusts most Americans on one simple premise. She acts like she is speaking for the majority of Americans when she blasts Obama and his Health Care Reform Law. In fact, it is the exact opposite. She represents a very small fraction of Americans. Trying to ridicule a man who is possibly the most well-liked and popular man in the entire world, just makes her look like more of a fool. She is a radical of the worst kind, and should be ashamed of the lies and rhetoric she has created in her life. You've disgraced yourself, your name, and everything that is great about our country. Shame, Michelle Bachman, shame on you.

What??? The insurance company's and their investors love Obama's plan. Rich get richer! Get rid of the stupid middle men who waste 1/2 of money going towards medical care, i mean, they complain and yet are buying up stadiums and putting adds on tv every 10 seconds it seams.

Obama laughed at health care for all, i will never forget that.

Obviously, we are moving to health care for all, similar to Germany's system. In Germany, besides the current Obama Reform Law, they do have a single payer system. The goal is to build slow support to eliminate these private, unethical health insurance companies, especially since modern technology could replace what they try to do in a couple of creative key-strokes! You were not going to get to point C without going from point A to B first. Michelle Bachmann and her Tea Party views are those of about 8% of the US population, she's on another planet! She must have missed a few classes in school on the way to her law degree. Hey, there are a lot of idiot lawyers out there and she certainly is one of them... completely clueless...

I think we need to start drug testing the Congress because no one looks like that out of their eyes without some sort of prescription drug in their system. That was what I just said & wrote on his facebook page.

Piers, as much as I love your show…this time I think you should NOT have shied away from your question to Bachmann on Rush Limbaugh.

You allowed her to evade the question as most politicians do. She evaded the question several times. You should have continued on that trend and make her answer them. Did you notice how long she doubled down on her “prolonged knowledge of what Obama should do and not do; yet, quickly and evasively did not answer the questions on Rush Limbaugh?

You should have continued with the trend by letting her know that:

      1. You were currently asking about what she felt as a woman & mother when she heard what Rush said about Ms. Fluke.
      2. You should have made sure she answered the questions

We all know what she & her likes feel about Obama, which is the only time they have things to say. She has cramped all her comments, hatred, etc about Obama; yet, have no knowledge or rather would not share answer any controversial issues – their quick answer is always “we have beat this to death”?

You reporters need to stop being afraid of these politicians and ask the REAL questions.

Pierce, please tell Michelle Bachman that the WORLD thinks she sounds like a future version of human robots. Who programmed her – Republicans won't take credit for it. If I had a million dollars for EVERY interview and EVERY answer she begins with "This is what Obama Care will do...". She is rude, over talkative, and I would not give her airtime....America would probably prefer Charlie Brown's teacher, "Wa Wa Waa Waa". Please push her back in the box and all Media host, NEVER wind her up again. Rush was absolutely wrong, and she couldn't say it; but she could say Obama Care. So glad she and Sarah Palin can now have tea time, versus campaign time. And if may, now I feel better. 🙂

As bad as Bachman is, I am more annoyed with Morgan, who lets her use his show as a soapbox without cutting her off in her rantings and forcing her to answer the questions. And how about some critical questions for Bachman. She claimed christians were attached harder than gays simply because they were standing up for traditional family values. For a christian concercative "standing up for" means vichously attacking. Why not point that out, mr Morgan. Bachman and her like can have their values, but they, as most religous nuts, wants to impose those values on everybody else. Why not piont that out?

This country is based on freedom for all. It is very puzzling how a political party can be for pro life and also be for the death penalty. As far health care Obama is the only one who has shown compassion and care for the people of
this United States. The rest of the civilized world has basic health care for it's citizens. If people want more they are always free to purchase additional private coverage. Basic care should be available to all. Michele Bachmann herself
is probably covered by a government health plan. Please people use common sense don't be bamboozled by these extremest. Remember who brought us into this mess. It is absolutely absurd to think that Pres, Obama could
have stopped a steamroller collapse in just the time he has been in Office.

Oh no Barb, make no mistake the minute someone like her gets in office the tone moves from the economy to social issues in a nanosecond. Don't you remember the recent change in congress. All the republicans campaigned on JOBS, JOBS, JOBS and the moment they took office is was all about Abortion, Gay Marriage and scapegoating the poor in order to justify raising the debt ceiling. Remember that Barb? Selective memory? This is the reason people who built their political career by promoting bills that were bias against the LGBT community(exactly...EXACTLY what Michele Bachmann did in Minnesota in order to get into congress) must be called out everytime they refuse to answer questions about their past behavior. It is the predictor of future behavior...point proven by the example of congress above.

Thank you, Michele Bachmann, for standing strong to Piers Morgan's questions, responding with accurate factual information and for not playing into his rude interruptions and ridiculous badgering when your answer was not what he wanted to hear. Isn't the golden rule of hosts such as Mr. Morgan to remain neutral when questioning their guests? It is clear where Mr. Morgan stands by the tone of his voice, responses and mannerisms. Mr. Morgan, other members of the media and Democrats who chose Fluke to speak need to research Fluke's background, affiliations and writings. The question he SHOULD have asked her was, "Do you have even a SHRED of integrity? Do you have any intention of standing behind your ridiculous professed beliefs?" She isn't qualified to be elected dog-catcher and she makes me embarrassed to be an American.

In his fantastic little book, "Letter to a Christian Nation," Sam Harris wrote "Our country now appears, as at no other time in her history, like a lumbering, bellicose, dim-witted giant. Piers, you say you are a Catholic and clearly you do not know God's Word. What people fail to understand (or just won't come out and say) is that what Kirk Cameron and most followers of Christ are doing is simply defending God's Word. It is not Kirk's law or rule that that being gay is an abomination, it is what GOD says in the Bible. Kirk is just defending God. And those who are for "tolerance" are actually directly opposing God, the Creator of the Universe, the King of Kings. So go ahead, continue to oppose God but perhaps you may want to pick up and read a Bible for yourself before you do so. Denying God and denying His word as written in the Bible is a death sentence for all. By the way, if the comedian you had on your show directly after Michelle Bachman who purports to be a Jew would read his Torah, it would say the same thing. God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. Don't take my word for it – read the Bible for yourself.

Both Piers and Michele seem to assume that everyone should have a "right" to get married. That is not so, which is why this act between two people requires them to get a license. And the laws behind that license, and most of the marriage laws and traditions in societies other than ours, are written and enforced to protect dependent children and women from abuse in relationships. They are basically not written in regard to religious principles. For a further treatment of this matter see

Piers, the more I watch your show, the more I think that you are a lousy host.

It is one thing to attempt to set your guest up in hopes that they fall into your traps, but to start talking over them when they answer your questions is rude and obnoxious. To me, you come off as being pompous and ill mannered.

Watch some of your interviews. I am quite sure that you will be embarrassed? I suggest that you at least extend the courtesy of letting your guest speak before you scold them for not responding in the manner that you want. .

Have you gone to the Rush Limbaugh school of broadcasting?

Hopefully they will move your show to a later time zone, so that you will come on after I turn in.

Piers, you make an error, Marriage was created by God and not Man. If the USA dissintegrated tomorrow marriages would be still valid by God, a country does not make it valid nor what men say. Because Michelle Bachman believes that the validity of Marriage is by way of Men and not God (although I think she is confused on this point) she offends people. If Michelle Bachman was more like Ron Paul and believed that God and the Church having been separated from the State would be more peaceable among men. However, Catholics like yourself aren't allowed to read your own Bibles, therefore you wouldn't know that either; plus the words in a Catholic Bible were translated to something more favourable to the Vatican and for leading Christians astray.

Piers, why do you want to argue about Kirk and Michelle being judgmental? It is God Himself that judges the gay lifestyle. Christians are charged to place judgment on no one else, which is what she said: she wasn't there to judge anyone.

      Re – Michele Bachmann

You did try, but you really did not hold her feet to the fire about where she gets this drivel (I unfortunately did not hear the whole show) about the affordable health care act controlling what medicines you get and what procedures you may have. First none of that is in the law. What is there, is a minimum standard for health insurance. And her comments regarding the government deciding what procedures you can get, this woman has obviously never been sick because what surgeries you can have, what medication you can use is already controlled by the health insurance companies without any regulation. They literally decide what medication you can use and cannot use, in some cases forcing doctors to use medications that are not indicated for the disorder in question. You let her make all that up, translation. She lies and has no shame about it. I really wish someone would make her quote chapter and verse as to where these regulations are in the health care act. And if you get the chance do not let her get away with "O well that's where it's headed." I do appreciate your attempts to hold her feet to the fire, but if you get another opportunity, you simply must get her closer to the fire, perhaps singeing her toes a little.

Michelle Bachman and people like her are what's wrong with the conservative movement in America today. The conservative movement I know is supposed to stand for morality and rights of the individuals not only when they are violated by the other party but when they are violated by any one especially by any one powerful. What Mr. Limbaugh said was offensive, rude and yes disgusting and the conservative party / movement lost an opportunity to tell it as it is, to stand tall for the principles of morality, respect for individual rights and defending the of dignity of a young ordinary citizen against a powerful loudmouth who happens to be a republican. What a shame. WHAT A SHAME !. Piers Morgan called it exactly right and I am so disappointed in Michelle and all leading Republicans who chose not to repudiate Rush's disgusting comments.

Anyone who hesitates or refuses to answer such simple and fair questions is not only ashamed of their own opinion (as they should be) but also accutely aware of how thoroughly ignorant and wrong they are. Romney, Santorum, Bachmann, Limbaugh and the like, hide behind pathetic rhetoric to avoid admitting the full extent of their archaic beliefs. If these people are indeed so proud of their values and beliefs, why do they refuse to answer a simple question? Weak-minded hypocrites are vying to be a country's leader? Laughable.

I am frustrated but not surprised that Michelle Bachman did not answer the question regarding Kirk Cameron's comments about gays being "unnatural" and "detrimental to society". She would rather stir up the ghosts of terrorists as being a priority political talking point. OK, let's view the issue through that lense then...I would not for a second say that Mrs. Bachman is not patriotic but does she not see that defending Mr. Cameron by saying that he should not be vilified for his religious beliefs – despite the fact that they verbally attack gays – is akin to supporting terrorists who physically attack others on the basis of their religious beliefs. Like those terrorists who committed atrocities on 9/11? So Mrs. Bachman do you support discrimination on the basis of religion and thus support the terrorists? Mrs. Bachman, until you realize and verbalize that gays and all walks of society make significant contributions to society AND pay taxes that support the likes of you, you should never be allowed to be President!!

You choose to speak ill of ALWAYS give a negative comment about what people say and push your guests towards the same thing... remember, " we do not see the world as it is but as we are.....and it shows...... in your show. The system you choose in your show, shows not WHO you are but WHAT you are.... you are an intelligent man, but you need to look at yourself and decide WHAT you really are and WHAT you want to be. Michelle Bachmann was taking about ways to save the country from the overspending that is going on and the problems with the country and Piers was just trying to get her to defend comments on issues he took out of context from 7 years ago. Instead of letting her talk about the important issues and problems with the country Piers was stuck on little things just doing anything he could to get her to comment on issues that will have no meaning if we spend ourselves into losing our country. That is what we are doing. I have followed this issue since 1978 and we are going to go broke as a country in 20 years at this pace. Obamas administration has spent three times more than all of the other administrations combined and is taking us to go broke at a record rate. And all Piers wants to do is play petty games. We need a great leader and we need to balance the budget or the small issues won't matter because we will be owned by countries like China. Come on Piers look at the bigger picture. You are better than this. By the way Michelled Bachmann did great and I think she is an amazing women who got slammed over a few views that are not mainstream!!!

Also, when he was talking with Lewis Black about her inconsistency about government intrusion on peoples lives with healthcare vs. intrusion on marriage rights, again he should have nailed her on it on camera instead of waiting until Black arrived. You are right she is totally opinionated and extremist in her views about gays, birth control and so many other areas, yet during your interview she completely tried to avoid answering anything. I am Canadian and think similarly to you behoves me to see these radical religious politicians show such intolerance and think so archaically. Apparently, the only way to be "tolerant" in Piers view is for a person to change one's belief system to match his. I just witnessed the ultiamate demonstration of intolerance by Piers himself.

Carlos - I'm politically just about as far left of center as one can get, but I am one of those who has called Piers Morgan out for allowing Michelle Bachmann to take control of last night's interview.

You're right, they're nitwits, every last one of them, too stupid to know how stupid they are. And while I applaud Piers Morgan for having booked theocrat Michelle Bachmann - and especially for his attempts to expose her for what she is, by actually having asked her the tough questions - he absolutely let her off the hook way too easily. When she evaded those uncomfortable questions, what he SHOULD have said was, "Ms. Bachmann, aren't you PROUD of your deeply-held beliefs on these issues? And if you ARE proud of and dedicated to your convictions, why don't you want to shout them from the mountain top? I am offering you a platform here to do just that & I cannot understand why you don't want to take advantage of that." I just wish he had taken off the gloves & taken back control of the interview. It was painful to watch her roll over him the way she did. Painful.
