Rick Santorum on recent word choice: "The 'snob' comment did not go over very well"

On Thursday evening, Piers Morgan welcomed Rick Santorum for another honest and engaging discussion on the race for the GOP nomination, and more specifically, a few recent slips on the stump.

After recapping occasions when he perhaps could have chosen better words, the former Pennsylvania Senator explained that these are the perils of running an unscripted campaign:

"Look, you know, I don't have a speechwriter, I don't have anybody giving me talking points," confessed Santourm. "If you're reading off someone else's words on a teleprompter, you're having a hard time communicating that message...And sometimes I get a little, you know, say the wrong word."

One wrong word in particular is "snob," and after Santorum used it to describe President Obama, he received a phone call from Mrs. Santorum, his wife Karen:

"Oh, yes, the snob comment did not go over very well. And she reminded me, you know, it's snobbish. You can say it was a snobbish thing to say, but don't call him a snob," Santorum explained to the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host. "And I said, you know, I - that was - I made a mistake. I'm sorry. I just got all wrapped up and said it."

Watch the clip, as the GOP presidential candidate further reveals details of how his wife keeps a close eye on his word choices.

Are you crazy...Why don't you read yours and realize that the bible also says its okay to sell your daughter (Exodus 21:7), that you don't love your kids unless you best them (Proverbs 13:24), that violence cleanses evil (Proverbs 20:30), and that bats are birds (Leviticus 11:13,19)! You're judgmentally quoting the bible and you don't even know what you're saying!

The devil doesn't exist. And you can't pick and choose which bible verses to follow. Not following one of "god's" insane rules is a sin, which results in "god" damning you to "hell" for eternity. I guess this means you better start beating your kids and torturing people for petty crimes if you really want to get into heaven. Did you know that you should also kill people who work on the Sabbath? It says that in Numbers 15:32-36? "32 While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, 34 and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. 35 Then the LORD said to Moses, “The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.” 36 So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD commanded Moses." And you better check that shirt you're wearing. Is it a bland of two fabrics? If so, repent for your deadly sin! It says it right here in Leviticus 19:19 "You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together." Also, how can you be sure that your ancestors of 10 generations back all had kids of legitimate births! If not, then you, and all the other great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren of illegitimate births are FORBIDDEN from entering the church. Don't believe me? Read Deuteronomy 23:2 which states that "No one of illegitimate birth shall enter the assembly of the Lord; none of his descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall enter the assembly of the Lord." Also, dont you DARE eat pork or shellfish, it is a sin under Leviticus 11:8 "You shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.", and Leviticus 11:10 "But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you." You hypocrites make me sick.

Will, get over it!!! Christians don't still live under the Old Covenant. Through Jesus, we have a New, and much better, Covenant, called the New Testament. If you don't want to be a Christian, then don't be..... no one is going to MAKE you. But those of us who DO believe, also have the right to believe. I don't know how long we will have the right to hold that belief publicily, but no one can ever take it away from us in our hearts and in our minds. Just because YOU do not understand, does not make those of us who do understand and believe wrong.

Will, it's funny how much scripture you know and how little you understand it. In your fist post you quote Exodus 21:7. You lack of knowledge in then history of cultures is underwhelming. In those days it was common practice to sell children as 'slaves'. First off slaves usually weren't treated with harsh cruelty which I'm sure is what you assume. In fact they were practically accepted as family. They had food, clothing, and shelter. In fact, if you didn't take care of your 'slaves' you were subject to some harsh punishment if not death for the mistreatment of those under your care. Also, selling your child as a 'slave' back then is equivalent to letting your kid go get a job. Your statements concerning Proverbs 13:24 and 30:20 are also incorrect. The first is talking about disciplining your children. (I've seen the difference between how disciplined children act and how undisciplined children. The disciplined children almost always act accordingly and respectfully. I would be one of those children and would not change my upbringing.) Concerning the verse you cited from Leviticus...seriously? They didn't classify animals so specifically back then. Pretty sure that they were very general classifications. If it flies, its a bird. If it walks, its an animal. If it swims, its a fish. If small and weird looking, its an insect.
If you have a problem with God, Jesus, The Bible, Church, and Christians. Then have a problem with it. Like someone else said, nobody is forcing you to be a Christian. I bet that if someone had said "Read your Koran" you would not have responded like you did nor would you be offended.

Oh, and as far as your second post goes. It's all irrelevant. God gave the Israelite's a law to follow. If they didn't follow it they were punished accordingly. The man was found doing work on the Sabbath which was a holy day set in place by God and it says in the Ten Commandments that NO PERSON should work on the Holy Day. As for the rest of it, as Annette stated before me. Jesus came and set a New Covenant in place of the old one. If one person chooses to uphold the old ways and another does not, only God is to judge those people. Leave them and their actions to God's judgement, for He will always judge fairly. He will also judge the heart of that person and the means behind that persons actions. I pray that someday God get's your attention and your heart turns toward Him. Other than that, I have no more words for you.

I have heard the arguement that, saying people need educating is snobbish directed against me, and as a girl i am so glad that i was educated, the likelyhood that i would have gone to university a generation before was slim, so argueing for education is something that touches me close. Here in Spain it is normal, as far as i can judge from the catholics i know, for catholics to use this arguement of Santorums, they say that they are not all alike but in many things they are and this is one of them, to call you a snob if you talk about education being necessary a leveler and such.
The reasoning behind calling you a snob if you want everyone educated is this, that you dont think a person is as good as you without being educated so you are a snob, they take things down to the personal. Another part of the reasoning is that that people are as God made them and evidently you can leave all to God you dont have to put in anything, though they argue the opposite when it is morality they are taling of, then God cant be left to teach people at all, the religious have to take all your life into their hands.
They often seem to argue that education is uneccesary Paulo Freirle famouse educational theorist of the theology of the liberation says that you only have to ask questions to get stuff out of people because they have everything inside them, you dont need to educate them as in stuff things into their heads, which he considers manipulative, as classes at school usally stuff the ideas of many different people into the heads of the young and it is teachers of many doctrines that do the stuffing, I dont think normal education is manipulative. The questions of catholics of the Paolo Freire persuasion consist of putting conundrums to you and letting you sovle them, one form of conundrum is to put a story to you rather like the fables of Fountain, so they are putting stuff into the heads of those they question, they put in the contents of the stories they tell and more they are asking questions that beg of just one answer, you cant give a stork his grain in a doggy bowl for instance, it should be possible to elaborate on the answer in a more normal education system, but this sort of catholic does not allow you to, they are very good at hedging in the conversation, so it is really an extremly directed form of education, a very manipulative of their students form of education, all their questions lead to answers that fit in with caatholic doctrine.
Another part of this arguement is God meant people to be as they are, as the line in all things bright and beautiful goes, The lord in his castle and the beggar at his gate, God made them high and lowly and ordered their estate.
I tried saying here that you needed to educate everyone and got called a snob, being with people who used that sort of arguement made me feel miserable and confused for years, you have to be able to say that things might sound insulting towards the poor or women like, "they need eduacating", or you cant do anything to help them but if you do you may have to face being called snob. rose macaskie madrid.
