On the eve of a critical primary in Illinois, tonight Piers Morgan welcomed Karen Santorum, wife of Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum.
In their exclusive live interview, Morgan and Mrs. Santorum discussed the campaigns critical social issues, including contraception, and women's rights. Facing the claim that her husband is an "anti-women" candidate, Karen proved a staunch defender of the former Pennsylvania Senator:
"When I was doing my book tours, Piers, Rick was the one who was home changing diapers and making meals and cleaning the kitchen. He's been one hundred percent supportive of me," Santorum insisted. "I think women have nothing to fear with when it comes to contraceptives, he will doing nothing on that issue."
Asked to expand and clarify her point, Santorum told Morgan that if elected president, her husband would respect a woman's right to contraception, and would not allow his religious beliefs to impact his political position:
"Absolutely not. And again I think the issue is the government forcing people to go against their conscience. That's really the issue here."
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Karen explains how the media portrayal of her husband saddens her.

My wife and I attempt to watch Piers' show nightly but have come to odds with him not allowing his guests to complete their comments before he interrupts. His guests are very good and tend to have interesting points of views which we enjoy listening to. For example, Scott Brown who happens to be the Republican Senator from Massachusetts was quite interesting but was continuously cut off by Piers' interference. As moderate Democrats we wanted to hear more of his views. Same goes for most of the show's guests...not allowed to complete their statements. I guess that's the norm for rookie interviewers! Maybe a few more years will mellow the man!!!
Why on earth would you want to hear Scott Brown. A simple review of his voting record, will tell you everything you need to know--no matter what he says he believes, when the Party tells him to vote in unison, he Votes what they say. Just another partisan Right Wing guy, trying to destroy this country and blame it on Obama. Smarten up before November
Even if that is true about Scott Brown, Piers does this type of thing regularly. This is part of what makes me despise Fox News and MSNBC's work – I think that there is less of it on CNN and hope it stays that way.
You can read more about Rick Santorum and others at my blog:http://corporationsarepeople.blogspot.com/
He gets most of his money from Oil and Wall Street. His voting record is horrible on womens issues, the environment and banks.
A message to The Goverment:Don't push it any furhter.9/11 was 10 years ago.Despite the talk of peace despite the winning of a war despite the winning of a peace price : There is STILL war. Innocent bodies are destroyed. We don't want you to print more money, because you don't spend it right. We don't need naked scanning . We don't need a demographics unit . We don't need traceable ID cards. We don't need any ROBOCOPS patrolling the streets.Don't push it any furhter.Ron Paul 2012
Rick wants to stop funding for Planned Parent Hood, Outlaw abortions.Doesn't want health care covering hormone therapy
He's a do as I say not as I do, His wife had an abortion for medical reasons but he wants to deny it for other women. The man is a self righteous hypocrite. He has also said a woman should not work outside the house. This isn't the media reporting these word came out of his mouth.
If you want to watch a REAL 1st Lady should have watched Letterman!!!! Piers is a ROOKIE compared to David and Mrs Santorum the same feeble attempt at a real interview compared to Mrs Oboma. CNN picks leftovers from FOX and Dave gets the real deal!!!!! Too bad for CNN to be even behind FOX. I guess 2nd rate GOP folks and Piers are perfect for each other!!!!!!!
But he WILL seek to Outlaw Gay Relationships, and to Reverse the Marriages of Already Legally Married Gays. And so will Romney.
Aren't there more pressing issues before us? Who annointed these idiots with the perrogative to tell American Citizens how to live their personal lives? Is THIS the responsibility of a U.S. President?
They don't want to be president, they want to be GOD!
Please here the message that we egratly need a viable public transportation system. My wife and I are hoping the Rally Bus (Houston) comes through, but are not confident with the need for 25 more reservations in order for it to avoid cancelation. Greyhound and Amtrak, if leaving early o'clock on Friday would get to DC on Saturday evening and Sunday morning respectively. This would miss the event and would only allow enough time to board again and return on Monday night. Two days for one way travel from Houston to DC? That's great if time were of no issue, but most of us have job commitments. Air travel makes little environmental sense and therefore is not reasonable for us. Just for comparison, Madrid to Berlin (40 miles further than Houston to DC) takes half the time and you cross a couple of international borders. I am open to carpooling ideas for this event, but there will be many people who simply can't make it due to the transportation obstacle. Local rallies are great and helpful, but if we want to unite as one mass in one place, then we need a reasonable way to get there.
She's just as full of santorum as he is. A brainwashed Stepford wife.
Thanks for clarifying this is about individual liberty not about stopping contraceptives! Go Karen!
Rick's not anti-women. He's just a pre-enlightenment kind of guy. So he has . . . different views of women in society. Maybe soon he'll move to the 15th century . . . we hope.
The problem is that Santorum is his religion and will stand in the way of any civil right or liberty when his religious conscience tells him to.
Back to a 15th century theocracy – that's the plan.
Karen Santorum is a liar, just like her husband.
Sure ok
I am so glad that a point of view I have always held, but which was ttreead with tremendous disrespect by much of society, is coming out of the closet and declaring its rightful place in the realm of human thought. There are more of us than we realize. Even among believers there are many who are seeking a rational exploration of what life is and what it is all about. We are opening the door to the beauty of reality. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the rally.
Bridget, I requested ipternreters through the Contact Us form a few weeks ago and got no response. I have a group at Facebook of deaf freethinkers and some are interested in attending, but we\'d really need ipternreters there to make it work. Add to that Gallaudet\'s presence nearby and I think we could get a good turnout. It could be the largest gathering of deaf atheists, agnostics, skeptics and freethinkers anytime, anywhere.
This whole "conscience" argument is a red herring. When the law of the land is employer funded health care, insurance that doesn't include contraceptives becomes a real funding problem for women. It can cost over $100 per month for contraceptives – and many women need pills for medical conditions beyond pregnancy prevention. This was Sandra Fluke's testimony which people have ignored. Having been on a double dose for cysts, I would have been in severe trouble without health insurance discounts. Ms. Santorum is living in a non-reality bubble.
Why do I have the feeling that this woman is full of [forbidden s-word]?
Touche! If she hasn't been brainwashed, then she's every bit as bad as her pious, woman-hating jerk of a husband is. He wants women to stay home with the kids barefoot and pregnant and let the "man of the house" take care of the finances. I bet the men that are out of work love to hear this too," let's all just live under a bridge and starve together"! It sounds like he's not only intent on drowning us with his religion, telling women "their place" but emasculating men, as well.
Frankly, I hope Santorum wins the nomination. What better way than through the presidential debates to reveal to low-information voters just how regressive and dangerous the New Republicans truly are. Try to imagine this man with his finger poised on The Button, hearing envisaged messages from God.
You mean like Dumbyuh, who claimed that god told him to invade Iraq?
I'd rather that the voters never even got the chance to elect Santorum. Never forget this headline: http://0.tqn.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/X/_/bush_dailymirror_dumb_people.jpg
No one cares what any candidate's wife has to say unless she is First Lady, and even then it's only sporadically.
So Ricky gave the "little woman" her shoes so she could go out and try to mend some fences for him. Who cares what she says. She isn't running for anything. We have heard enough from her narrow minded husband. What he has in mind for the women in the USA is a return to some other century in someother country. Ricky should realize that the President in the USA represents all Americans not just the extremist nut balls and not just the ultra conservative so called Christians who are so full of hate and condemnation for anyone who isn't part of their little group.
I like how the anchorwoman dcberised Sweet Brown's experience as horrifying, and Sweet was laughing by the end of her interview. Stay classy local news.I don't really say pop or soda, I say Coke or Root beer or Sprite, and I never say Pepsi. Also, I think soda wins, because road pop sounds stupid whereas road soda sounds delicious.
Let's hope we don't get the "Double Rick" next November. President: Rick Santorum Vice President: Rick Perry.
What a waste of time. Did she say anything, really? Does anything she can say have any bearing on the Santorum platform? Can Morgan no longer get a real guest to interview?
Perhaps Rick Santorum is so against abortion because his wife lived with the doctor for six-years who did away with babies and he found it out after marriying Mrs. Santorum.
Most christians are like that; usually it is the person did such a thing unless Santorum is is guilty of something he did and trying to cover it up with being religious fanatic.
Remember Newt is now so religious.
Roger
Mrs. Santorum dismisses her husband's claim that he would ban contraceptives if elected. Does she also claim rhat he would not bring his Catholic training to the office of President, as he also said on winning the Iowa primary?
This man has made many stupid remarks while campaigning. When giving his reasons for believing that contraception is a sin, he mentioned that there are too many children in families which can't afford them & too many children having children. I would think that these are reasons to promote birth control. When criticized, for what he has said,he denies that is what he meant. It reminds me of Obama's campaign in which he made many blunders & always accused the people of "misunderstanding" or "misinterpreting" or "not listening" to what he said. People in 2008 believed him &, as a result, we got a President who still is flip-flopping on what he has said.
Santorum seems to open his mouth before his brain starts to work. If what he says is not what he intended, then we should not have a president who says things he does not mean. If he did mean what he has said, then we don't want a president that intends to bring his Catholic teaching to those of us who follow other religions or one. who will ban birth controls or who will push to ban abortion, a congressional right & a woman's right. Just the other day he complained that true Conservatives should not be reading the New York Times. Next, he'll be saying that Dicken's Christmas Carol is blasphemy because it ends happily.
Yes ... the design is clearly needed to be changed
The dark green color would fit perfectly xD
Doug, you have to come! I too am a huge Tim Minchin fan and I can't wait to see what craziness he'll unesalh on stage. I can tell this event is going to be one that will go down in the annals of secular gatherings as the one that changed everything. Some day when your grand kids ask you what you did during the great Reason Rally of 2012, you don't want to have to reply, Well, I stayed home and played with my Wii. Hope to see you there Doug!

Undeniably imagine that which you stated. Your favourite justification seemed to be at the net the simplest factor to have in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get irked at the same time as people consider worries that they just do not realize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing with no need side-effects , other folks could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thanks
