READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
Coming up this evening on "Piers Morgan Tonight," American novelist and cultural critic Touré joins the program for a passionate and fiery debate on the circumstances and media coverage surrounding the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
In an exclusive primetime interview, Touré takes exception to host Piers Morgan's coverage of the case, suggesting his British roots yield him unqualified to comprehend the complexity of the situation:
"You are too new to the situation to fully understand what's going on here, and what's really at stake for America."
The host takes a different opinion:
"What a load of fatuous nonsense you speak, don't you Touré."
Watch the clip, listen to the interview, and then tune in this evening at 9 p.m. as Piers Morgan and Touré battle for the verbal upper-hand in a spirited and passionate fashion.

PIERS!!!! QUIT LETTING HIM TELL YOU YOU ARENT PROFESSIONAL... SCREW HIM BC HE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE PROFESSIONAL HE'S CLAIMING YOU ARENT. THIS CASE ISNT ABOUT YOU PRESSURING THIS DUDE!!! ITS ABOUT TRAYVON!!!
Shame on Toure!!!! I'm African-American and feel distraught over how Piers Morgan was treated. Piers has been an inspiration regarding the Martin coverage. I'm proud of how piers handled Toure and the Zimmerman interview.
Wow, Piers had passion for Toure but did not have he same passion to challenge Zimmerman. Toure proved his point. Piers had many follow up questions for Toure but could not find any for Zimmerman? Great job Piers.
Thanks Piers. One other thing not addressed. The Haitians & Jamaicans that have been allowed into the US. They are on the Dole. I go to work to support foreigners, what about American jobs & Education for us who live here?
Piers had the nerve to tell Toure "What a load of fatuous nonsense." What Toure said was factual and without a doubt, what many people feel. I watched the interview of Zimmerman's brother and I felt the same way. He was allowed to say a lot of crap that the media already knows is either not true or has not been able to be substantiated. Yet, Piers let this guy go on and on and on about nothing more than conjecture. I say that because this morning, George Zimmerman's lawyer releases a statement saying that Zimmerman's brother's account shouldn't be looked upon as fact. Now, why is that? Well, Mr George Zimmerman's lawyer says he and his brother haven't been in contact in YEARS! That says something. Also, the brother's account does NOT correspond with the father's account. If it walks like a duck and smells like a duck, it is a quack, quack! I like Piers, however, Toure is right! Piers did NOT do his research. Had he done so, he would've called the brother out on his inconsistences. But it's all about ratings. Isn't it? That's the most sickening thing about the whole scenario. Trayvon, a 17 year old boy is dead and noone has been charged with any count of manslaughter, 2nd degree murder, 1st degree murder....NOTHING! I understand Toure's frustration because I, too, am frustrated and sick of the media missing the whole point of this story. Our grandfathers, fathers, uncles, and brothers have been singled out, harassed, mistreated, brutalized, and murdered in the past and NOONE has been held accountable. We, the living, are left to speak on their behalf. I'm proud of Toure for taking that baton because too many people in the media have missed the point: A 17 year old boy is dead because a 28 year old man, with a record of domestic violence, attacking a police officer and being fired from a previous security guard job for "throwing" a woman who happened to be intoxicated shot him to death after being told by a police dispatcher to stop pursuing the 17 year old. The history of our nation can not be overlooked in this situation! Black males are still being singled out even when they're doing absolutely NOTHING wrong! Now, that was Toure's point and I, wholeheartedly, agree with him!!! Great job, Toure!!!
I find you brilliant. We are not black or white in this case, (though I think George Zimmerman was Hispanic or of Mixed Race). In any case, what matters is the truth as Lady Justice must remain blind. It’s a tragedy to have lost this young man and the truth must be discovered. Consider me your newest white friend.
Shame on Toure? REALLY?! That was the most unprofessional, ego-driven, racist, uninformed "interview" I've ever seen on television! Piers claiming to be a journalist, and what I saw was nothing but him driving home his "uninformed point of view" which by the way a so called journalist would NEVER do. He was self consumed. He put himself and his own ego ahead of black America, who is facing yet again another heart wrenching situation. And I thought Toure showed remarkable restraint while being baited by an ego-driven, self consumed prime time suedp (sp?) journalist.
Shame on you Piers and CNN I will never watch your show again!
Piers questions to Zimmerman brother on 3/29/12 was respectful and professional. His guest tonight (Toure's) was a disgrace to the journalist race let alone the human race. His racist remarks toward Pier is no better than the situation the world is trying to deal with concerning Trayvon Martin murder. He only made Piers Morgan a better journalist by completing an interview with a jerk (Toure's), that apparently do not know how to conduct himself and he is proud to be an American.
As an African American woman, an older African American woman, I have never been so embarrassed in my life. Whatever Toure was trying to say he could have found a better way to do it. He was not for one second about Trayvon Martin, this was all about him trying to show off and make a name for himself. I thought that his conversation was going to be intelligent, thought provoking and to the point. Instead he was asking Piers and CNN to do what has always been done to African Americans – censor comments. It was better to have Robert Zimmerman on the air so the world could see the lie being told. Piers, in my opinion did challenge Robert Zimmerman on every point. Perhaps not the same way the Toure wanted it done but surely he was effective. Toure simply looked and sounded unhinged and childlike. Physically posing himself for the camera? Making faces? C'mon. Instead of attacking the host of the show he should have used his time wisely to bring the facts forward for the Martin family and the masses. Quite frankly, he wasted my time. He was just grand standing for himself. I was totally disappointed in him as a black man and Piers was right to ask him if he EVER watched his show. Robert Zimmerman is a man trying to save his brother at any cost. And? He loves him. And in that people can read between the lines and it doesn't make George Zimmerman any less suspected of guilt in the eyes of the world.
Why do I need to know u are African American?
No... my friend... shame on YOU...Tourre was absolutely correct in his frustration towards the interview. Pierce was arrogant and condescending towards him. That's why the conversation disintegrated to name calling by both parties. You might be too young to understand the agony we older people had to endure from police brutality, but its real. I agree that Pierce is a good journalist, but his gentlemanly approach to airing more "hearsay" information is merely giving Zimmerman a "pass".
First time I'm hearing about this 'PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST TOURE'. A professional journalist who doesn't know that you shut up and let others speak when it is their turn to. Just one stupid kid that has found an opportunity to appear on tv with no clue whatsoever what parts journalists have to play in our society. Toure shoule be a judge, not a journalist, otherwise he should go back and learn how to be a real journalist. Stupid brat Toure.
You are a ass kisser and if that was your son we would see how deep it would get ijs
I agree with you Cindy. I too am a black woman and really like Piers. I think anyone should be able to understand and feel the grief of what happened if you are not a racist. I don't feel in my heart that Piers is that way. He may not have been as strong of an interviewer on the idiot he had on but Piers is doing a great job. Let others put this guy to task, let Piers do the job he does. I am so saddened by the way he was treated. I understand the racial divide very well, I live it daily but I know their are people that logically could never understand this because they don't go through it, but my goodness, he understands that this was wrong and that is why he is doing the show. Please people, lets put the anger where it belongs. Piers is just trying to be fair. He is not congratulating the idiot zimmerman, he is just reporting. I would not give that idot a platform but I am not a journalist. Toure, I respect what you had to say but please direct it at the zimmerman family and not Piers. I am very sad right now.
I absolutely agree with everything Toure said!!! Giving airtime and bias interview to HIS BROTHER? Asking irelevant questions and giving a benefit of doubt????? Instead of outrage over sensless killing and outrage over the FLORIDA LAW you are trying to build a benefit of doubt????? Shame on you Pearce !!!! I am white Canadian.
Toure went off. He is obviously too emotionally into the story. He may be right, but the man (Zimmerman) has not had his day in court, if it goes to trial. People should not use one event to right all the wrongs done to a race a people.
Please get a little backbone...come on, PIERS became extremely defensive, which I understand, since his has NOT a clear knowledge of the AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE EXPERIENCE.
CIndy, I am a Young AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE, who has been VICTIM to racial profiling. If you have not experienced it as an AFRICAN AMERICAN, you cannot FEEL the PAIN. As an AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN, check with the men in your family and ask them about their first experiences with RACIAL PROFILING in this country! I'm sure you'd feel a little different if Trayvon was one of them.
To brobin who comments on everyone who states they are African American, get a life dude. Of course there is no way to prove they are who they say they are so your nonsense comments are as equally meaningless as their statement.
With regards to Piers vs Toure, it should not have happened if they are the "professionals" they both claim to be because professional journalists would not behave like 10 year olds. I do agree with Piers' method of interviewing Robert because if he gave the "hard treatment" that Toure wanted then it would just look like he called Robert on the show to attack him and his family. Piers challenged him a bit, but not too much, which is good because it allowed the world to see that Robert is totally lying and the fact that so many different stories are coming out of the Zimmerman camp hurts his case and takes him one step closer to jail.
While Toure has a point that Piers doesn't understand truly what black people have gone through in American history, Toure doesn't either. He was not the one that was a slave, nor was he lynched, nor did he witness it happen. He has definitely grown up in a difficult manner because it is not easy to be black in America, but to assume that he is an expert on what America is feeling because he is a black American is ridiculous. The entire notion that people who are not American don't understand pain or injustice or racism is absurd because it happens all around the world, and in comparison to many other countries, black Americans have it easy.
Toure went on the show not to discuss Trayvon, but to make himself seem like he is someone black people actually care about. He is not the voice of the black people in the US, not is he the face of responsible journalism, he is just another glorified blogger, which of course is now known as a journalist.
Sorry, Cindy, I don't think you're getting this one. Piers is more worked up about defending his ego than he is about doing a solid job as a journalist. When a respectable journalist sees that someone like Zimmerman's brother is lying to him, his job–if done properly–is to ask the subject tougher follow-up questions until the guy is in a corner and reveals his true colors. The good journalists have a gift for smelling the truth and staying steps ahead of their subjects to get the truth out. Piers just doesn't have those gifts, so he's trying to boost his own image by saying that he believes himself to be a great journalist.
I agree with SB
Wow. I have never even heard of this Toure guy... Agree that he doesn't get it or anything.... shocking!
As a person that knows both piers and you're n Harvey for what it's worth. You're spoke the truth n piers took cheap shoo
As a person that knows both piers n toure, I gotta call piers on this.. Toure made logical points n piers chose to make it personal instead of dealing with the topic as he shut toure down. This case is open, shut, shame on piers...
I agree Cindy. Toure was wrong for going at Piers the way that he did. The place that he should be is on Fox not on CNN going after Piers who has covered this story responsibly. He came across as very negative with a person who is professional and has given his guests an opportunity to speak as all hosts should. Everyone knows a family member will speak up for their relative and they should be allowed to. Toure is trying to get into the game but is barking up the wrong tree. Go to Fox and attack the pro Zimmerman's over there. He clearly did not speak for most black people on this. He should leave these things to intelligent brothers like Roland Martin. Hats off to Piers for putting him in check. Its ok to be angry but in this case it was very misdirected.
There is no question about who killed whom.
There was a dead body and a man with a gun.
The question is – was it self defense???
Why did Pierce ask him if he thought that Zimmerman was guilty ?????
Pierce does not know how to think and come to logical conclusions???
Cindy, I want to congratulate you on gaining your new White friend(s) here who are comforted by your total failure to "get it" and by your bashing of Toure for calling Piers on his journalistic hypocrisy. Piers had a bad night when failing to properly challenge Zimmerman, that failure likely caused a setback to justice being done, and Toure was brave enough to call him on it without apology. If I run into any more Black or White people out there who are as enamored by Piers and his laughable credentials as you are, I'll send those "friends" your way, too.
I agree that Piers Morgan is an excellent journalist. The person that was being interviewed was very cynical, and even hostile. It showed the true colors of this guy Touré. I think it was a total shame how Touré behaved, and conducted himself and treated Piers Morgan. I audio listen to Piers Morgan and watch him... and it was disturbing both listening and seeing this guy act the way he did. Good Job Piers Morgan!
Piers M got owned point blank as he very well should have!! he shouldn't have had that fool Robert Zimmerman on his show in the first place!! given a voice to that fool so he can try to cop a plea for his murderer brother.. thankfully Mr. Toure gave Piers the verbal smack in his head that he so desperately deserved. NOW GO RUN AND TELL THAT! <<<>>>>>>>
Piers Morgan displayed intelligence and class last night while Toure ranted nonsense. Mr. Morgan has showed empathy and respect for Trayvon Martin and his family in each and every show re this terrible injustice. As an impartial journalist he interviewed Robert Zimmerman and allowed him his 'right' to free speech. As a Canadian and a fairly intelligent woman I agree with Mr. Morgan's shock and amazement regarding Florida's 'stand your ground' law. I enjoy watching Piers Morgan because he is current, fair and impartial.
I like Piers too, but frankly, I think Toure was right. Black people in this country have a sad not-so-distant history with profiling, persecution and injustice.
"Why can't the english teach their children how to speak?" Piers learn the facts before you let racial biased Zimmerman on your show. Piers, you lack the journalistic integrity of Larry King. You're doing a diservice to your job. Please step down. I'm not watching anymore...
agree completely = Toure was completely unprofessional and did not promote his point in a professional manner at all. I ended up changing the channel for the last few minutes of the interview because it was distasteful to watch this unnecessary attack on Piers Morgan and returned to the show after the shouting was over. It was most certainly conduct unbecoming a guest on an interview.
Piers should have thrown him off the air. I have just written to MSNBC and asked them to sever any future interviews with Toure. Throw him on FOX news if he wants to behave like that! I cetainly do not want to hear him again. I hope others will write MSNBC and ask for them to keep him off their programs along with CNN! In my opinion, he does not deserve to be on television with others who make the profession respectful. All of this nonsense and a little boy has lost his life ... and some jerks want their own attention on TV for the benefit of themselves and not finding justice for this child. I think Toure is a disgrace.
Piers, I have always enjoyed your show, but this time you are guilty of shlock journalism. And how dare you say it's "Nonsense" what we as African Americans feel about this matter. And how dare you put a travasty like Robert Zimmerman who has no connection to the case, who is a blantant liar and who Toure is correct in saying, you do NOT challenge him. You let him get away with it. You haven't been in America long enough to claim knowledge of the intricacies of race relations in this country and should not presume to. Perhaps Mr. Toure was rude in his wording but he was correct in his assumptions and your responses were insulting arrogant to all African Americans- period.
Then you have been bamboozeled. I have been a fan of Piers Morgan for a long time. But you are uninformed if you think choosing a man like Robert Zimmerman to go on the air and voice a bunch of coached responses to things he had no first hand knowlege of is either helpful or informative reporting. Don't you know that there are now people that believe that obviously coached interview as fact?? I They want nothing more than to see a handsome white man say how innocent Zimmerman is. But Toure is right you should dig deeper with facts Piers not just let him lie unchallenged. It is poor jouralism to not ask him how he knows that is brother is innocent. You have to ask tough questions when you have a man so obviously biased- I'm Sorry- Piers let us DOWN here.
I Don't dispute Mr Morgan's approach to general interviews, but I do think he brought something up that made me question his background for this issue. He has been in the US for 6 years. I am from the 50's and 60's and I do wonder if he can have any idea of what the history of division in America was like. He is not from this post slave owning history that has lingering overtones of prejudice, especially from the south. My parents were born at the turn of 1900, my mother from Tennessee. I grew up hearing casual comments that shocked me when I understood them. They did not think they were bigots, just white people. Maybe having a foreign born interviewer can leave some distrust in their understanding of the emotional history of our country. I personally think it should be the law we are discussing. ANYONE of ANY color could be the arm bearer or the victim.
Send this pompous ass (not an anatomical reference, but reference to an animal) back to the land where his racist procilvities can slide by unnoticed. He has enough troubles there with wiretapping, etc. The very idea that this ass (anatomical reference restored) could lecture Toure is astounding. No wonder CNN is in trouble. Get him out of here.
WHAT IS TOURE TALKING ABOUT? AS A BLK PERSON I SEE RIGHT IS RIGHT AND WRONG IS WRONG. TOURE YOU ARE WRONG. PEIRS DID ASK ALL THE QUESTION I HAD WANTED THE ANS TO. GREAT JOB PEIRS.. I AM A FAN
FOR SOMEONE WHO MAY NOT UNDERSTAND THE BLACK EXPERIENCE (THAT MAY BE TRUE) BUT....PEIRS DID A GREAT JOB. I MEAN HE DID ASK SOME TOUGH KEEEYYY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CASE...THE CASE...TREVON'S CASE.
I am African American too and I was appalled by Toure’s utter insolence to Piers. It was totally uncalled for! While emotions are high and I get that Toure’s obviously furious about the situation, I believe his anger is misdirected. There just is no excuse for such rudeness and condescending tone. Quite frankly I was embarrassed and feel compelled to apologize for him.
I don't believe most of the people here who claim to be African-American while criticizing Touré. Of course black people disagree, and some blacks surely don't agree with Toure's arguments. But I have no way of confirming whether people who claim to be black are, so I would say we should try to assess the arguments for either of the interlocutors here simply on the basis of their cogency, not the self-proclaimed 'race' of the blogger.
Dear Piers, I thought the job that you did on the Robert Zimmerman interview was fair and impartial. This was needed, so that information gathered can be on the record period. As of this Sunday the 911 audio has been analyzed and the voice crying for help is not a match for George Zimmerman. This is an important 1st step leading to the eventual arrest of “G. Zimmerman”. This debunks the Zimmerman’s family claims, so please continue with the interviews.
I just caught up with the vid. The problem with this case is obvious to anyone that has the intelligence to see the larger picture and not be blindly herding behind beliefs. To elaborate; a thought or mindset is open to learn and evolve with new information while a belief is like concrete and would crack before accepting any new information. This case was never a racist issue it became one by racist beliefs. Yes, these beliefs are as in grained in the protesters as Obama not being an American is in grained into the beliefs of the birthers.
Seeing that the media has played out the belief, "Trayvon Murder" and is starting to expand with new information; it gives me hope for the human race that common sense will prevail. For the spin, easily seen with open eyes, was little poor teen profiled, stalked, targeted, and clearly killed with premeditation for being black. To accept this spin one has to consider 1 of the eye witnesses, 2+ paramedics at the scene, 6+ police officers, Zimmerman's entire family and their black friends to all be a large conspiracy of racist out to target and kill black teens. It makes as much sense as an illegal alien going to school and building a career in American Law becoming president.
Thank you to all that have eyes and hearts open to truth over spin and hate beliefs.
RickyD, very sensible post finally, after all the spin. Trayvon Martin, RIP, you deserve a speedy trial and so does George Zimmerman.
Are you a racist? What difference does your skin have to do with the facts?
and you being African-American should not matter when viewing facts that is unless you are a racist and want to promote a divide between different race? I wish everyone would quit giving people a pass because you are "African-American" when you use that African-American you are separating using race. please quit using the race card it get old and offends many people.
Tour'e came off like a total idiot. Piers Morgan is an exceptional journalist. Thats why we watch him.
A true professional journalist? Really? Piers Morgan, who once worked for Rupert Murdock's, News of the World newspaper, is a professional journalist? I watch him, sometimes, but I'm under no delusion that he's anything other than a tabloid journalist. You don't know what you're talking about. He's a tabloid journalist just like most of the media, today. In fact, he got his reputation for being a "hard ass" by disregarding the privacy of celebrities, people in power, being invasive, and disrespectful. Back then, I guess he believed in holding people accountable and drilling them. I wonder where that Piers Morgan was when he interviewed Zimmerman's brother....out to dinner? That interview was a waste and did nothing but introduce more inconsistences. It may just turn out to be a God-send for the prosecution. By the way, George Zimmerman's lawyer told us all, today, not to listen to the brother's account because he and George haven't been in contact in YEARS! Piers wanted ratings and didn't drill the brother like he could have. "Has George ever lied?:" What a silly question. How about asking him "Have you guys been very close?" "What kind of upbringing did you guys have?" "When did he convey the story to you?" Toure's right! This guy is not qualified to even begin to understand the pain in the hearts of black America, let alone America, in general, as it relates to this incident. I don't expect him to because his experience is different. But don't you dare try to tell Toure that his account of Pier's naivete, regarding the unfortunate, racial experiences in America makes him unqualified to understand this sensitive matter is wrong. It's not wrong! Unless you walk a day in my shoes, you not only do not know how I feel nor can you comprehend the pain that ensues because of the insensitivities and discrimination that you must learn to live with in your own country. BRAVO, TOURE!!! Piers was out of his league and I applaud you for taking him to task for being a phony. I've seen him nail people to the wall but he handled Zimmerman's brother with kid's gloves. That was insulting to me!!! His brother didn't even show much sympathy for the parents. He recognized the pain of the mother and disregarded the father's pain, altogether. What a sickening situation!!!
I TOTALLY agree with you Mary! I got VERY upset with Toure. I have ALWAYS felt a warmness towards Piers; especially because he is so evident about how much he cares for America.
Toure came off as a disrespectful bigot. Piers was far too patient with him. He should have hit the "OFF" button. I must say that it was unsporting of Peirs to engage in intellectual combat with this unarmed twit.
That mean nasty jerk was just plain RUDE. He now has a real bad reputation for himself. Piers did an excellent
job interviewing Zimmerman. Hopefully I will never see Toure's face again. Never have till then. He obviously is very
jealous of Piers and his success. ha!
Its nonsense saying you are black to identify yourself. I am not going to say anything about my race. I think Pier was totally wrong!! A young kid got killed and killer is still free. And that sums up why all the emotions.Sometime you have to let the emotion go and thats part of being human.I am not saying is the rational thing to do. I am tired of hearing people saying being professional all the time because you are on television.Sometime you can't. You have to flush the emotion out of your system.
I’m a black woman. I saw the Piers Morgan show last night with Robert Zimmerman. In all fairness, Piers did challenge him, he did ask him tough question. Piers did try to have him justify some of his ridiculous comments and falsities. Piers did not try to “bully” Robert into changing his outrageous answers, but he did the best that he could with the professionalism and dignity that he could in the given situation. It is unfair and unwarranted for another journalist to attack Piers for trying to get to the “root” of the problem and try to catch Robert in the BIG lies that he was telling. Everyone has a different style of interviewing and Piers did it the way he does it best. Please let’s begin by respecting others in our society regardless of where they are from. That is an irrelevant piece of information to us to attack someone on the air. How unfortunate. Piers keep on doing what you do. You do care and you do ask and you do push back (gently), in the professional way that you do it.
I thoroughly agree with you GFrank. Jouranlists all have their different ways of evoking information from people. As the scriputres states, 'a word softly spoken will cause a lot to be revealed'. Sometimes to get at the truth from someone, you allow them to 'hang themselves' and that's exactly what Zimmerman's brother did; he hung himself, based on the questions put to him by Piers. I don't knock anybody who can strategically uncover the truth from someone who does not even know that he/she has revealed it. I love these different variations that the Zimmerman family is coming up with; it shows that their legal counsel does not realize that he has some 'dim wits' for clients; they can't even get their lies in alignment. Now I understand and can relate to the passion of my young black brother; at age eight, white people burned a cross in my front yard while me and my family watched, however, my mother's brothers came on the scene and those white folks in that neighborhood quickly moved out. Black men and boys are still being lynched and hung; a black solider home from leave was hung in his mother's front yard a few years back in Georgia. The Criminal Justice System has become the 'new' slave master. As sad as it might sound, there is a need and a purpose for young black brothers like these; never in the history of this country have blacks ever gotten injustices addressed without 'making' some noise. But it has been all of us, blacks, whites, brown, yellow, working together to resolve the race issue; and it will take all of us in unity to fight the racism in this country today. Be Blessed!
Why do we need to know you are black?????
Thank you GFrank!! I was extremely upset with Toure's attack on Piers, and I wanted him to know how much I support him. You composed your comment so eloquently; anything I would have written would not have been as good as your comments. Thank you again!
I completely agree. For Brobin's sake I won't say what race/ethnicity I am. That being said it doesn't matter what background I or you are. That's where Toure went wrong. First of all, any person who cannot learn to wait their turn, is unprofessional. Watching this infuriated me. Toure was wrong for getting Piers uppity in the first place, and you know what? The frustration probably would make me jab too. Piers was wrong for the snide remarks, but I do believe, without a doubt, that those remarks would not have been said had Toure been professional and objective. A couple of people here have written that they now despise Piers for playing devil's advocate because the "facts" that Toure spoke about is how many people "feel". By definition, you don't "feel" facts... Facts are facts, opinions are another thing. Once you become subjective and take feelings as fact, you are no longer an effective journalist. Ergo, I will not state my opinions of the Trayvon Martin case, because, let's be honest, Piers and Toure didn't spend much time on it either, they were too busy at each other's throats. Piers handled the Zimmerman interview to the best of his ability. He's not the prosecutor, he's not law enforcement. It's not his job to get him to "spill the beans", it's unreasonable of Toure to want Piers to challenge him in that way. If Toure had been paying attention, he would have seen that Piers asked the right questions, and his subtle answers showed where he stood on the case. Toure- it was a lot of bark, but not a lot of spark; I'll listen to you when you stop preaching.
I so agree with you GFrank. A good journalist will probe and a credible or non-credible person will expose themselves. His brother (Zimmerman's) is not on trial. Toure did himself a great disservice as a journalist and a cultural commentator. What happened to Trayvon was very wrong and I believe most people can see that and want to see all the evidence.
I thought your note very thoughtful and well written. I agree completly with your analysis.
brobin – wonder why you have to ask such a stupid question of each person here that identifies themselves as black?
Peirs i'm African American and I'm not a big fan of yours but how you handled Toures won me over today. The fact that you even allowed that type of banter to go on while being decent is commendable. Today you officially replaced Larry King for me.
Why are you stating that u r black?
I am a big fan of Peirs. I am a black person and reason I say this is to say we can support fairness and truth. Toure is being unfair and is not right in my opinion. The interview was totally good. Toure is not speaking for me.
Mark, good for you! I am a Black person, who feels that Piers provided Robert Zimmerman an opportunity to spread unsubstantiated propoganda, and I truly hope he doesn't do it again!
Don't try that, I don't think you are an African American
As much as I appreciate your show Mr. Morgan, I agree with Toure. You are not credible in your reporting of Trayvon Martin. Number one, it seems you've done little research into the evidence surrounding the case and lack a complete understanding of the US Justice system and it's history. Let alone Florida. Seriously, go report for Fox, or return to your job with the last UK tabloid .
I'm sorry Carol but I'm disturbed by your and Toure's thirst for bloodlust in place of the truth. You have to look in the mirror and ask yourself, why do I "truly" feel this way...what happened in my life to bring me satisfaction for another person to suffer, whether or not it may be just?
Both you and TOURE have some real issues to resolve..please get help...I have practiced Psychiatry for over 22 years.
IF PIERS CALLS HIS SHOW JOURNALISTIC HES SO WRONG<<>>YOU GOT PROVED WRONG IN A HUGE WAY AND TRIED TO USE YOUR WHATEVER IT IS YOU THINK YOU HAVE,,,,, YOU COME TO AMERICA BECAUSE YOU FAIL IN YOUR HOMETOWN AND EXPLOIT A LOT OF BIAST AND STUPID PEOPLE<<<<<>> GO HOME LOSER>>> PLEASE.....
Yes, Pier's is ill equipped to deal with this subject. He's too soft and uncaring. He's a celebrity interviewer. He has no journalistic credibility!
Are doctors and the police department been terrorized in the State of Florida from proving that Zimmerman killed in self defense the same as they are been terrorized in the State of Maryland by radical African Americas?
I agree with FreeDog, who referenced "bloodlust" perfectly. You cannot state yourself as the voice of reason if you are adding prior knowledge and bias. If Piers has no credibility, why should it bother you so?
I agree with FreeDog, who referenced "bloodlust" perfectly. You cannot state yourself as the voice of reason if you are adding prior knowledge and bias. Furthermore, if Piers has no credibility, why should it bother you so? (I'm sorry but the grammar hound within me is irked by your incorrect use of "it's". I apologize for this and this had no bearing on my opinion.) This being said, are you really Carol Channing? If you are, I still love you, no matter the grammar.
I grew up in Florida. So, I have some claim to know the state. I fail to see what that has to do with the Treyvon Martin case. This tragedy could have occurred in any state in the U.S. Piers Mogan credentials are impeccable. Yours are not. Thus, I find your critque "fatuous".
As an African American I opine that Toure was disrespectful to Pierce. While it was clear that he disagreed with Pierce's approach to interviewing Zimmerman's brother, he had a right to show respect.
Telling Pierce that the MSNBC folks were laughing at the way he (Pierce) conducted his interview with Zimmerman's brother – without providing any tangible proof of flawed journalism on Pierce's part – served only one purpose, and that was to throw scorn Pierce's way. In doing so, Toure showed what a small person he is!
Toure, as a journalist, displayed a lack of professionalism rushing to judgement regarding Zimmerman's guilt. Pierce did the correct thing in 'pulling' from Zimmerman's supporters that he (Zimmerman) has a broken nose; now we can all await the hospital's report to better assess guilt or innocence. Furthermore, we can only disprove (based on the video shown) Zimmerman's account of receiving a bloody head if the 1st responders confirm that he was not cleaned up prior to being captured on video. At the end of the day we must demand the same justice for Zimmerman as we seek for Martin.....otherwise we (the Black community) seek to have our justice delivered in an unjustifiable manner.
Why do we need to know you are black?????? Makes you wonder..........
Way to go Jake!!!!! That is SO close to what I was thinking and feeling. When Piers interviewed Zimmerman's brother I realized he was lying in order to protect him bother (same with the interview with the dad).
Regardless of your "race", Toure was the most professional on the show. Zimmerman's brother should have never been on the show. Piers was undressed and humiliated on his own show by Toure because he didn't live up to high journalistic standards. Deal with it!
Piers, although I enjoy your show, as a professional social worker, I would have to recommend several things that would have diffused the hostility between you and Toure. First, being that you are not American and Toure is, a professional journalistic approach would have included validating something that Toure said, as his passion about Trayvon's tragic death is also rooted in American history and his own ethnicity/race, that even for me as an American white I could never fully understand. As a professional white social worker, I still work on compassion for diversity and all the injustice that black Americans face in our culture. Furthermore, admitting in a calm tone that 'yes' you are not American, thus, understanding the pain would not be possible would have built a bridge and not a racial/journalistic wall. Finding a common ground during these times should be the efforts of all reporting the news, and especially when so much is still missing in terms of the investigation. Secondly, I'm saddened to see what used to be The Larry King Show turn into a debate forum much like that of Bill O'Reilly, where disrespect is heightened, with language suggesting total disrespect for the common cause, which in this case is the memory of Trayvon Martin, his family and social justice.
Sonja, I think you have the most compassionate and insightful comment I have read here. Come to think of it , your comment is so profound I think it is one of the most intelligent comments I have seen in a very long time anywhere.
Sonja, Read Trayvon's Twitter accounts–you can Google them.
Excellent post Sonja. I agree with you.
Piers, watching you interview Toure made me embarrased of you. I saw a good part of your interview with George Zimmerman's brother and was struck by the pathos he expounded while making his brother (who he is not in contact with) seem a step or two away from death when he shot Trayvon. The video in the police station, taken about a half hour after the shooting, shows the lies to be what they are... lies.
I also agree with others that seven years in the US does not make you an authority on us. You clearly do not understand the deep painful issues that are usually hidden but brought to light with this case.
Mr. Morgan, how dare you!!! you cannot begin to understand how we feel,i thank the brother for speaking what alot of us feel:mistreated, hated, looked down on and our lives dont matter.I'm a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and you have NO IDEAL WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO SIT MY 7 YEAR OLD GRANDSON DOWN AND EXPLAIN THAT BECAUSE HE IS BLACK,HE MAY NOT MAKE IT TO THE WHITEHOUSE AND BE PRESIDENT AS HE HAS SAID HE WOULD DO SINCE BARACK OBAMA WAS ELECTED.not because he cant win but because he is black and therefore he might not live long enough.I HAVE DEALT WITH HATE ALL MY LIFE AND I'M SICK OF IT.WATCH ROOTS,READ ABOUT OUR HISTORY,AND YES I BELEIVE ZIMMERMAN MURDERED TRAYVON ALSO!!!! all we ever hear is wait and find out!! we already know, you see when have traveled this road for hundreds of years.THIS IS NOT TABLOID GARBAGE,THESE ARE OUR BABIES,PLEASE STOP KILLING THEM!!!!!!!!
Are you trying to say that because you are a social worker that you have the solution to right or wrong?
In response to Victoria below....no I would never say that because I'm a social worker I have all the answers; however, I would say that our professional/academic training includes hours & hours of diversity classes that encourages empathy and compassionate regard for cultural diversity. And in this case, due to my career with those who are both Amercian black and disabled, I determined that a thought from this perspective would be appropriate....we must all take time to reflect and find that place in our heart to hear the pain of others, and especially before we speak in anger and strike out towards those who are individually and collectively victims of hate crimes, profiling, sterotyping, and a long history their continues to haunt even their rightful place in American society....I believe the 911 call directed Mr. Zimmerman to cease following precious Trayvon....my question is, why didn't he follow the orders of local law enforcement if none of the aforementioned motivated his actions? God Bless Trayvon and his family!
I think it's an idiotic repsonse from the social worker...Piers acted like an adult Toure acted like Juvenile delinquent without a shred of knowledge about what journalism really is.
Tough luck that Toure' wasn't getting further patronizing of his feathers smoothed by Piers
Piers treated him like an equal subject to the same rules as everyone..you as a social worker as many social workers do excuse bad behavior instead of confronting it for what it is RUDE and WRONG behavio on Toure's art.
And yes, I think George Zimmerman should be arrested and convicted and sooner the better and I feel very very sad about this innoent young man Trayon Martin.
But Peirs acted like the adult here. Toure did NOT!
Great job Piers! Toure was completely wrong and definitely out of line. I am an African-American woman and I was embarassed by Toure's line of questioning and reaction to your interview with Robert Zimmerman, Jr. You were very professional and objective, both in your interview with Robert and Toure. Keep up the good work and shame on you Toure!
I totally agree. Piers, you stayed on the high road and should be commended. You fully exposed his prejudice. The only downside is you've somehow given this no-name Toure a name. My guess is that was Toure's mission. Thank you for being above that. I won't read or pay attention to anything having to do with him. Ever.
Further, it is repulsive that the tragic death of this young man is being exploited by the opportunistic Toure. Are you as apoplectic as I? That poor boy, his family... I can't comprehend the grief and rage, and this guy decides to make a name for himself. This tragedy transcends our race, our status, our politics. And will surely leave the dreaded Toure a discarded, forgotten footnote.
I have to agree about Mr. Toure's behavior and responses towards Pier Morgan interviewing George Z's. Pier wasn't the least passive-aggressive with George Z's brother.Pier should have challenged every statement made about the event given by the brother which is to change the public's opinion about what really happened.Let's take racism out of the equation of this tragedy..the results will be the same...unarmed and a dead innocent child who was trying to go home to watch a sports game while eating skittles..drinking ice tea.
DO ANYONE KNOWS WHAT CHALLENGED MEANS...NANCY GRACE!! Gotta love her!!
LET ALL THE ZIMMERMAN'S COME FORWARD TO THE MEDIA STATING WHAT SUPPOSEDLY HAPPEN
Sorry Piers...YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE STRUGGLES OF AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THIS COUNTRY just because of JOURNALISM..having empathy, apathy, or compassion doesn't count...walk in the shoes and experience the judgment of yours peers or those considered to be your equal will bring understanding to what Mr. Toure's stated to you about not being able to understand LIVING as A BLACK or AFRICAN AMERICAN.
GET YOUR LIFE!!
You have a lesson to learn from Pat G.
Toures an idiot Morgan told him off and that's why it's "PEIRS MORGAN TONIGHT" not Toures tonight..
The truth is that much of this anger is NOT all about the 20% of young black males that are killed by non-blacks, it's also about the 80% that are killed by other black males. This case is just an easy outlet for ALL of the anger. I believe much of the anger stems from the frustration that there seems to be NO answer to the senseless deaths of 'most' young black males. And that frustration stems from the fact that one has to look a littler closer to home to see the problem. The breakdown of the black family, and the lack of self respect is at the core of 'most' young black male murders. And I wish more of the anger was aimed at the 80%.
Toure was rude and I'm embarassed that this now it has gotten to the point of him and Piers arguing about what should have been asked and the interview. Let Pier Morgan inteview his guest in the manner he likes. Again, Toure was way out of line.
I think what Piers encountered is an angry black man. I had the same experience once with an angry black woman. It's OK. They are outraged by their history, and they should be by the Trayvon matter. But unfortunately, they take it out on some who are trying to help and understand and bring about change, like Piers. I don't think his journalism was lacking. He just didn't attack this as an investigative journalist. He let the brother of the man who killed Treyvon talk and weave a story what appeared to me as a fabrication. I think Piers is a welcomed sight at CNN and I really enjoy his show. I also am absolutely sick about the death of Treyvon. I have an 18-yr-old myself and think the shooter MUST be arrested!!!
Toure did a MAGNIFICENT job! Toure is a REAL journalist. Piers is not. My family and friends have now STOPPED watching Piers Morgan. We'll never watch him again. I was embarrassed for Piers. He seemed out of control and weak in his interview. He was taking everything personally and not listening to the facts. Toure's explanation of how this murdering of another innocent boy of color is corrosive and damaging in this country, was laid out beautifully. Piers is not on the same level as Toure or any other REAL journalist. He's only an entertainment personality and he should stick with interviewing celebrities.
How can you sit here and berate Toure' for being BIASED about sharing his honest opinion on whether George Zimmerman is guilty, then follow BIASED on the BULLY MOVIE BEING RATED "R".
AS A JOURNALIST, IF YOU ARE GOING TO PREACH OBJECTIVITY, PRACTICE IT!! DONT FLIP FLOP...BASED ON THE
"FLAVOR" OF THE SEGMENT!
Piers doesn't even seem to understand the connection between HIS NATIONALITY AND THE PAIN AND SUFFERING OF AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THIS COUNTRY... THERE IS A PLIGHT, SUFFRAGE AND SENSITIVITY TO RACIAL PROFILING IN THE COUNTRY TOWARDS YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN THAT UNLESS YOU ARE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN, YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND!!
WHY IS HE SO FOCUSED ON ATTACKING TOURE?? HIS HUGE EGO HAS MADE HIM LOOK EXTREMELY CONTRADICTORY IN HIS NEXT SEGMENT ON BULLYING WHERE IT'S COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE AND FOCUSED AS A PLATFORM TO JUSTIFY THE CHANGE OF THE RATING...
I am a biracial woman and simply cannot believe the unprofessional behavior displayed by Toure. Piers handled the matter beautifully despite being repeatedly attacked on a professional, personal and national level. For Toure to be so presumptous to assume that every journalist should share his confrontational interview style and have no outlook other than his own is both narcissist and myopic. As you may recall, Lt. Columbo had a unique style all his own. There is no doubt, however, that he got the job done! (smile) Toure who supposedly champions the rights of African Americans had no right to insult and demean Piers for being an English citizen. I simply could not believe Toure's self righteous, all knowing, rude, unbalanced, disrespectul airing of his viewpoint. Surely, Piers nor anyone else need be an American or have any other special standing in order to understand injustice and the pain of others. Touche Piers, I agree, "what rubbish". Many thanks Piers for having a balanced, insightful, professional interview with all parties so that the facts can CONTINUE to be flushed out allowing all to assess the situation for themselves. Keep up good work Piers. Remain true to yourself as we enjoy your program every evening.
You can have your opinon but I don't see Piers' approach as being balanced, at all. Had he been seeking balance he would've been open to seeing Toure's side. However, he wasn't because Piers is an egomaniac who thinks he knows everything. Don't be fooled. Toure champions causes dear to his heart, not only African-American issues. Furthermore, Piers knew who Toure was when he INVITED him on his show. He wanted the ratings and he may have gotten the ratings. Piers is no professional journalist. I've watched him nail people to the wall. That's his reputation. He's the former editor of Rupert Murdoch's News of the World newspaper. You know the one that is under investigation for hacking celebrity's phones and other improprieties. Piers is a tabloid journalist just like the majority of our American journalists. It is rare, these days, to find a Tom Brokaw or Brian Williams. Our media is corporate owned and it shows!!! Thank GOD for people like Toure!! Many people black and white said the exact same thing about Martin Luther King Jr. Not to compare Toure with Martin but those who make us feel uncomfortable are always targeted and made out to be the bad guy who's rocking the boat. Our boat, in America, needs to be rocked!
This is the reason why black people should not married white people – This is what happened to Africa, mixed children of Africa – they called them Arab and Indian/ today the first groups who en- slavery the Africans. Looked up Tipps and slavery
This what destroyed africa read Dr. Clarke
Piers is one stand-up dude. Dont let raceiest people put down an up str8 MAN
Capt. Pierce Morgan is NOT a real Journalist,
he is Rupert Murdock's poodle and a joke.
Even Toure is smarter.
I Agree with you Jana, Dear, Mr. Morgan, I was washing your tonight show interviewing with this edit color person challenging your ability as journalists covering about some young man, who was probably on crack, when he got shot, no one seems to talk about whether he was on crack, no one has right to tell you that you were unprofessional intervening His Brother, who appeared well educated better than some jack ass;s who like to make big deal, about what occurred without knowing full facts, You are very Good Journalists keep up the good work and do not let these edits take control of the media and force the country to lean there way, very soon than they expect, the truth will be prevailed. Take Care my Friend and keep up doing Your Job, They think they control this country, we will know this coming election, the media got to stop covering this issue and forget let the law take it course for justice if has any merits, One important fact, it should be Law order Against wearing Hood’s period.
Actually, Trayvon did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system but GZ was not even tested for anything. That is one of several outrages. If you were not biased by stereotyping, you would not have made that assumption.
The next issue most people do not realize is Piers and Toure had already been arguing back and forth for a while on Twitter before Toure came on the show. Piers had been criticized for the way he lobbed soft balls at GZ's brother. If you only saw the on-air interaction between Toure and Piers, you certainly would have thought both men were truly combative. What I don't get though is Piers insistence that he knows what it's like to understand the African-American experience. He can't and he doesn't. Toure is absolutely correct. Even first generation African immigrants can't begin to fathom the layers and centuries of pain, of being "a problem". Throwing around all these british words like fatuous nonsense only actually further proved Toure's point. Piers had his ass handed to him.
Jana I agree with you 100%, Dear, Mr. Did you proofread your post?
Really...These statements about being on Crack...This is what has the profiling in attention. This is what a great deal of people are talking about. Trayvon was not under the influence of any type of Drug. Do your homework. This young man is dead because of preconceived ideas and that is what the uproar is all about...Sad that people still think of young people as all being crack addicts...or was this presumption because He was a Young Black kid? That is Racial profiling, the very reason for so much outrage.
Toure...What makes you the authority on the pulse of America? What are your qualifications? Hmm...college drop out, cover stories on Snoop Dogg & other artist`s & last but not least your article on dale earnhardt, jr. Sounds like someone full of hot air!
The history of US most black people have an Stories to tell, someone in their family being hanged. This bring back pains we know what happened to our family members / We heard the stories this is old pains. When they hanged a black man or boy they would cut off his privacy parts and take pictures and sell it on post cards...
Piers, thank you for providing a superb example for an unbiased journalism.
Piers, WOW this guy Toure is sounding agree. If journalism is about reporting non bias facts of an event and making sure the facts are verified and true without personal twist and personal view this guy Toure has missed the point. Yes this is about racial profiling and a man that acted inappropriately even though he was told too stand down. Plus it seems the police do not have constant story for the events that happened. BUT that being said does not give a "professional" the room too slander another journalist because of your personal agenda. I do not believe Piers was defending himself rather the principles of proper journalism, which truthfully very few in newspapers, magazines or bloggers do or understand. And anyone in a heated vocal situation will raise their voice and without a doubt once it becomes personal attacks, as Toure was doing, even in the humbleness that a person thinks they are will tend to defend themselves or in this case the principles of reporting.......
Piers does not know who killed whom?
There is a dead body and a man with a gun.
Piers !!!!!! try to figure that out.
Yeah... we read your position the first 7 posts... enough
The person you had on your show Friday night who was labled a 'comedian', was discraceful. He is a white person hater who is a racist and he jokes about it and gets away with it. He is discusting, mean and wrong in how he has convicted George Zimmerman in a crime that has not been determined yet. It makes me extremely angry that our nation has become this divided and uncivilized because we are still bringing up things that happened 50 plus years ago.The only reason there is still racism in America is because black people continue to bring it up and accuse white people of hating and disrespecting black people STOP NOW. Please don't let people like this on your show. It puts your network in the same GUTTER as MSNBC and that is BAD.
I am deeply saddened by Trayvon's unnecessary death, and I have to admit that I have probably already made up my mind that Zimmerman is guilty. Having said that, it blows my mind to think that Toure was given so much air time to is attack Piers Morgan's professionalism. He obviously has a complete misunderstanding that responsible journalism requires multiple perspectives. Though the format of the show permits the host to have an opinion, he would be completely irresponsible (and quite boring) to be so biased that he would marginalize those who might have a different perspective on an issue. Interestingly, Toure bases his strong opinion based partly on the fact that the various «stories» are inconsistent. Isn't ironic that he can make this statement because of interviews that do allow the various perspectives to be aired, including the very interview he criticized. By the way Toure, this issue, very serious indeed, is not unique to America...this is a universal issue. You'll do a lot more good defending these issues if you broaden your own perspectives. Piers, you are a respected journalist, but I would suggest you don't spend any more time defending your decision to look at all the information.
Liz, someone who worked for a Britsh tabloid (News of the World) does not make him a journalist and neither is Toure, he is a blogger.
I am proud of pierre he prevailed to an absolutely incoherent person. Keep it up. We need facts not bias opinions.
I couldn't believe the tone of the attack against Piers. Sometimes Piers interview approach aggravates me, but, he is not easy on anyone and it does seem that in most cases, he is truly seeking to expand his own understanding and to get to the underlying truths. There are many lessons that can be learned by our national conscience through this tragedy, but I am afraid that some of the real lessons are becoming obscured because people are latching onto this, seemingly for their own benefit so here's mine: http://www.themyriafoundation.org. I am a white republican female crime victim who has been treated poorly, even to the point of covering their own butts, by a white republican prosecutor's office in Sangamon County, IL. I blog about it at http://www.themyriafoundation.org. I WISH someone would take up my cause, but alas, there are people across the internet seeking justice and writing about it .... and getting nowhere. I pray that the lessons to be gleaned from this awful tragedy will make this nation better. Many changes that need to be made need to be made at the local, county and state level, which the national media does not focus on. Each citizen has a responsibility to find out about their own laws, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors.
Piers is doing an injustice to our judicial system by giving George Zimmerman free reign to spew his side of the night. Piers, you looked like a low rate journalist the other night. Toure told you the truth and your ego got knocked down, as it should.
Nonsense. Piers is very objective.
Total nonsense! Piers was the only one who acted like an adult in his interview with Toure.
Toure acted like spoiled little child.
I totally agree. Piers Morgan's softball interview with Zimmerman's brother showed a sort of bias I was not ready to see from Piers Morgan, and I for one applaud Toure for being willing to stand up and say so, since the rest of us will never have the opportunity to do so ourselves.
The beauty of the American judicial system is the fact that everyone has a right to defend. The Zimmermans need to get their story out so we can analyze how full of s**t they are
I know this is Pierce Morgan blog so its pretty much pro Pierce. For what its worth since this is the internet I believe there was alot foul play still to be resolved and the "stand your ground" law is idiotic. I believe this is what Pierce believes also. Toure from MSNBC is totally out of line. He is so far jumping to so many conclusions that its just what helps divide our country more over race. Toure made quite a few assumptions where there is liitle or no evidence, so I do not know who he calls himself a journalist. As far as Pierce questions toward Zimmerman's brother I believed he did a good job. I'm not a journalist and honestly do not know what "hard hitting" questions I would ask. Toure's beef was with he didn't drill him like Pierce was a prosecutor on a cross examination. I actually liked this. If say Pierce would have kept drilling him over and over on his broken nose or some other "gotcha" all it would do is again perpetuate the "stereotype" of the liberal media that they just out to get the bad man. He asked a question, let Robert Zimmerman answer, did some follow ups and moved on.
Hip Hip Hurray for standing up to The Torres ignorance. I stronmgly suspect that your Enfglish backgroud gives your far more insight into American observations than his slave background does. After all we speak English not Congolese.
There are many lessons that can be learned by our national conscience through this tragedy, but I am afraid that some of the real lessons are becoming obscured because people are latching onto this, seemingly for their own benefit. I am a disabled, white, conservative female (I voted for Santorum in the Ohio primary) crime victim who has been treated poorly, even to the point of them acting to cover their own butts, by a white republican prosecutor's office in Sangamon County, IL. I blog about it at http://www.themyriafoundation.org. I WISH someone would take up my cause for I have tried to be my own lawyer and really can't be. Alas, there are people across the internet seeking justice and writing about it .... and getting nowhere. I pray that the real lessons which can be gleaned from this awful tragedy will become clearer and help to make this nation better.
Many changes that need to be made need to be made are at the local, county and state level, which the national media does not focus on. Each citizen has a responsibility to find out about their own laws and policies of their law enforcement agencies and prosecutors. How many actually know, I wonder? The Florida laws regarding freedom of information seem to limit the amount of information released. If Trayvon's parents were made aware of what is now trickling out, earlier on, I don't think this would have garnered the attention it has received. Now, I fear, human nature makes it hard to retreat from positions so strongly taken, if the facts prove to be opposite of what people have come believe. The simple act of fully informing Trayvon's parents early on would have indicated that they mattered to the powers that be. I pray for true justice for all.
When I was 11, in 1970, my parents moved from Cleveland to one of the suburbs, not because people moving in were black, but because of the increase in crime (that in spite of the violence going on in our own home!). I pray that no child in this great nation is forced to live in fear. I wish the remarkable amount of energy and focus we are seeing expended in this case would spill over against the daily crimes committed in poor neighborhoods, and for the good people who feel trapped there and forced to tolerate it, for fear of their lives and safety.
Certainly the United States has better to offer than Piers Morgan. Never understood his getting a show on CNN of that magnitude. Piers Morgan is a pompous, know-it-all and always has been. Didn't watch the show last night and never would watch Mr. Morgan. I happened to see a clip of it covered on the news. Not surprised. CNN should dump Mr Arrogance and put any of the wonderful people we have in this country in Larry King's place.
China D, I totally agree with you.
Piers simply DESTROYED Toure and rightfully so. The latter is one of a whole cottage industry of profesionally aggrieved blacks who have suddenly shown up on TV. It seems they must be called upon to provide their special understanding of all things Obama. As soon as Obama is voted out of office, this crowd will be at the unempolyment office.
Although I don't always agree with Toure, Piers Morgan's softball interview with George Zimmerman's brother left me wondering why he even bothered. We already know Zimmerman's brother was not present at the crime scene, and therefore has absolutely no first hand info, and yet he was allowed to speak (mostly unchallenged) as if what he was stating was fact, especially when we see the police video that makes it clear that the injuries the brother insists were sustained that night, were not. So, while Mr. Morgan might want to understand the way American's feel about this case, his lack of hard hitting interviewing skills makes me wonder if he is trying to make Zimmerman's case for him, and I therefore side with Toure on this one.
Just a reminder to Mr. Morgan that he was the host of the show and Toure was his guest. I couldn't believe the exchange could get this low particularly the ending. I really missed Larry King show now!!!
I don't understand why the " stand your ground " law doesn't apply to young Martin . He was where he was suppose to be and he was the one being followed . I don't believe that if Zimmerman was the one shot he( Martin ) would not have be treated as kindly by police as Zimmerman. And that is what feels racist to me.
Piers your right.....welcome to the white burden.
Piers your right....welcome to the white burden.
Piers you did nothing wrong, welcome to the white burden.
Piers, you DID everything wrong. Welcome to America.
Piers... You handled both Zimmerman and mister Toure with elegance, manners and neutrality. Toure is an embarrassment to us in his black suit making him a mere caricature of Cornell West [who did in fact finish college and works at Princeton University I might add]. Toure used that as a platform for air time for himself and to me just amplifies the tension. And how dare he question your journalistic credentials. Wasn't he a hip hop VJ a few years ago?? Give me a break. Love your show. Go UK.
So let me get this straight. A Black man in a Black suit is somehow a charecature of Cornell West? Really? Is that the only name you could come up with? Ignorance must truly be bliss!
As a white man transplanted to America, Mr. Morgan is not qualified to give any commentary on the African-American experience. The lynchings and cross burnings have happened as late as the 1970's to men and boys who's only crime was having dark skin. As recent as the the 1990's innocent men have been dragged to death. To deal with the constant threat of violence, from racists and black-on-black violence, we have developed a dark sense of humor that is only shared by combat vets. If George had dark skin or a non-jewish sounding last name, he would have been arrested and facing a large bail or denied bail for the same offense.
Why are you so scared of an unbiased third party opinion? African Americans are petrified of an unbiased third party weighing in on these issues. When a white person in America says, "it's been a long time since slavery, get over it" the white person is told they have no right to say that because they are not the one who suffered. When the white person says "it was my ancestors, not me", they are told, yes, but you have to still make it right. But when a third party like Piers who has only been here for 6 years says "get over it" then it stings, and the african american has nobody to point the finger at and say "you owe me", "somebody owes me something for nothing". The truth is minorities these days have the advantage over whites. Only minorities get jobs and favorable treatment to fill quotas, not whites.
Why are we interviewing people who don't matter. His brother was not there, his dad was not there....
Mr. Piers did a fantastic job in this enteriview and was very polite, after which his guest took this interview to a personal attack on Piers! Telling Piers this was something Piers could not relate to! Indeed we all know what the past has been like, for all races, includeing the Jews. So I applaude Piers, and why is no one talking about the many deaths in the Chicago shootings/ 29 in all in one weekend, all African Americans,,including a small beautiful little girl, the age of 3???? Makes many wonder why this case is so publicized! Just a question some might want to ponder on. Good Job Piers!
Piers, something that jumped out at me during the exchange with Toure.
And well, something jumped out at me form your message. The fact that you are as pompous and your post as self serving as Piers Morgan's interview with Robert Zimmerman. Cogratulations! LMAO!
OK Karen W, I guess "just because you say so"..... Talk about lame!
Let me see, you respond in a childish manner, but I'm the one who is "lame"? Oh, O.K. I suppose I should take that as a compliment!
The producers should have made sure Trayvon's parents were Pier's guests first before the Zimmerman's family.
Touré was such an angry arrogant racist, seeing only hate and conspiracy behind every corner, that it would have been laughable had it not been so sad. Like the race baiters Sharpton and Jackson, waiting for the investigation would just be a waste of time. And like Spike Lee and Roseanne Barr, we should just go ahead and Tweet the addresses of all the Zimmerman relatives, even if they are the addresses of the wrong people. And a nice bounty by the New Black Panther Party, what the Hell, they mean well, right? Nothing wrong with a little vigilante justice, if the wrong person gets hurt, as long as they are White no problem, right? At least the family will sleep better at night knowing that "justice" is being done.
Of course justice is not always done for teens gunned down in Florida, how come you never hear outrage about the murder several months ago of of James Cooper and James Kouzaris, gunned down in Sarasota in a gang initiation while on vacation from Briton? ...Maybe as the parents of the two murdered boys states, there was no "political value" and not worthy of a few minutes of Obama's time. They were White, the shooter was Black. No outrage from the community or apology from the President to the parents in Britain. The President of the United States is Black along with many corporate and other leaders. But certain people in the Black community still find it convenient to blame Whites for all their problems, all these people who got ahead have one thing in common, an education.
Toure, is hurting he might have a family member who was hanged n the past all that pains is coming back; one should asked himself why does he feel this way?
Two things Micheal. Roseanne Barr is white, and if Trayvon's shooter had been Black, this woundn't be in the news, because that shooter would be in prison. Next!
Unless you've lived your life as a African-American man whose been profiled you'll never truly understand the Trayvon Martin Case!
No such thing as a color-blind world http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-orlando/no-such-thing-as-a-color-blind-world-1 via @examinercom
Toure is absolutely right: there is no need whatsoever to look at the FACTS or get PROOF. Ugly George Zimmerman has already been tried & convicted by those anointed from On High: (liberal) news directors. I have already gotten out my knee-pads to kowtow before their sacred images on my TV set ( made in 1984 by one Ugly George Orwell). I am ready to grovel at their feet & obey the sacred scriptures of lib-casts...Let's see if Piers or Soledad want to query me on that LIVE...
I fully agree that Piers did a very professional interview. Toure obviously belongs to the "I've already decided." cadre.
Stand your ground PM.
Toure is an idiot. RACIST - he makes people that agree with him sound like idiots. good job -
How you kept your cool I do not know...faced with such ludicrous claims against your research, reporting and ability (as a non-U.S. citizen) to be fully aware of the various issues concerning the Martin case. You are the true professional in that you stood not to judge but to give both sides a forum and a fair hearing. Toure is the bigotted individual. I could barely listen to his attacks on you, and he did not produce ANY legitimate argument!
From Vienna, Austria
Morgan is NOT a real Journalist, Capt. Pierce Morgan, is Rupert Murdock's poodle and a joke.
I really am dissapointed that there are More Brits reporting their opinions on American news!! Why does America care so much what the Brits think about us or our culture etc! These Brits are all puffed up like a bunch of over paid stuffed shirts! Send them back to UK where they belong!
Who is this Touré guy?? He's so disrespectful and unprofessional. Why is he even on this show?
that's exactly what I asked myself....
This is ridiculous... are they really having a spat... on air... right now???? c'mon...
MAN!!! TOURE ISNT A DAMN MESS!! I CANT BELIEVE HE DID THAT MESS!! HE CALLING PIERS UNPROFESSIONAL??
YOU SHOULDNT HAVE AIRED THAT INTERVIEW BC HE WAS SO RUDE!!! PIERS YOU DID YOUR JOB AND I WELL....YOU ARE NOT THE DAMN PROSECUTOR BC ITS APPARENT HE WANTS YOU TO ACT AS IF YOU ARE IN THE COURTROOM INTERROGATING HIM!!! TELL HIM TO GO SIT DOWN SOME DAMN WHERE....I WATCH CNN 24/7 AND I THINK YOU DID A DAMN GOOD JOB!
This man Toure is clearly biased based on his race and doesn't have any desire to understand the facts. He appears out for justice based on very little concrete information that we know now
the facts are clearly displayed. Zimmerman follows martin continuously, despite the police telling him not to do so. Zimmerman utters racial slurs (and that was only on the phone, who knows what else he said). Zimmerman on neighborhood watch with a gun and without proper neighborhood watch attire. Zimmerman 28 yrs old 250lbs Martin 140lbs 17 years old. NO WAY IN HELL THAT SKINNY KID TOOK DOWN THAT HUGE GROWN MAN AND GAVE HIM A BEAT DOWN!!! Screams from a kid where heard on the phone. Police tapes show no signs of a broken nose, blood, or injuries to Zimmerman's head, about 30 minutes after the fact. For gods sake, the next door neighbor said that he say it from his window where Zimmerman was in fact the one on top of Martin. People, when you see 2+2...it is always 4...even if the "=" is not shown...
Piers Morgan needs to go back to hissy-fit fighting with Howie because he is over his head as a journalist. What his type of show needs is a William Morrow, Mike Wallace, etc. kind of interviewer. Like Larry King before him, Morgan lets his guests spew whatever kind of lies they want and he is ill-equipped to challenge them. Or, when he TRIES to challenge them, it is embarrassingly feeble. Really ... he is a fluff guy ... send him back to FluffLand because hard news is NOT w3hat he is cut out for. And if there is a hard news story to be covered in this country right now, it is THIS story. It cuts to the core of who we are and Morgan is just too weak to be at the helm. CNN ... move on and find someone good for this show.
If the next door neighbor witnessed the incident, why didn't he call the police?
Toure? Is this the new black professional journalists? Toure does not know how to listen before even answering. What an idiot Toure is!!!!!! Very embarrassing.
he was soooo disrespectful, I wanted to jump through my screen!!! what an idiot
Yes Latoya...I became unglued by tourers behavior. Pierce, you are loved...from my American heart..I feel such shame at how vicious Toure against you!
I was sceaming at the tv too and was embarrassed for the entire race because of Toure's behavior. What a joke. Even if you are upset, you don't go plum apes and not publically as a journalist with that type of platform. I felt like I was watching a toddler. Grow up and put your man pants on. I understand anger, but not ignorance to combat anger.
Yes Toure, how dear you disrespect the white man?
Its has nothing to do with him being the new black jornalist. He was a very unprofessional journalist. He coulf take a leson from Piers.
You are a great man Piers, and you conduct your interviews with class and grace............ you let them talk freely and that allows them to spin their webs. This is of course what makes a good interview of someone we don't know, let them talk!!! Then you ask them to clarify, like you always do, and now you have the story!
You are much like Larry and that's a great talent to have when you interview folks for the first time.......... that's how you get them to come back when you need another interview!
Toure, would talk all over his guest and all we would hear is his one-side of the story, less any facts, and that isn't how interviewers are suppose to get information!
Toure, is an embarasement to the African Americans of the world by his stupid, childish, conduct on your show tonight and he owes you an apology oneday.
We Love you Piers, keep up the GREAT INTERVIEWS so me can decide the facts as you dig them-up for us.
Thanks for Being YOU, Piers Morgan the Profesional Interviewer on CNN.
Take Care Piers,
John & Christie Reeve
This has nothing to do with black journalism.....Toure is a handful. Period.
Toure was the real journalist. Piers came across as stumbling and weak. Where was that fire Piers when you needed it for your George Zimmerman interview? Piers, when you're attacked personally you have guts. When you're doing an interview, you don't. Piers is about Piers and nothing else. He's not a real journalist. Thank God for Toure. A real journalist at last. Piers please take classes at a journalist school and learn your craft. In this country you have to study and work hard to get somewhere. It can't be given to you.
Agreed so weak he dedicated a show to a critique of a real reporter, he showed his insecurity
What Toure high on drugs?
This debate with Toure' is dumb why are you guys arguing over the merits of the interview both of you looked ridiculous, I would have preferred that you not put him on. This should be about Trayvon, and the evidence, not about who is a better journalist. You guys are idiots.
CARLA, you're the idiot! You forgot that the REASON Piers had Toure on his show in the first place was to put him in his place for Toure's critical assessment of Piers having Zimmerman's brother on the show. Did you forget? That is why this blog is taking place. Piers got shot down in embarrassment. This has lead to a fury of a debate on this blog from every fool and racist in this country. Furthermore, we know the travesty of the Trayvon murder and we all hope Zimmerman is brought to justice. Lastly, don't blog if you don't know what you're talking about.
Wow, I am not a fan Piers as our politics differ greatly... But way to let Toure know what a narrow minded, glory hound, irrelevent, ALLEGED journalist he is.
Hang in their, Piers. Toure is being a jerk. You are the true professional. You and Anderson Cooper seldom appear to take sides when you interview anyone., I am enjoying this debate.
WHY IS HE SO FIXATED ON PIERS NOT DOING HIS JOB?!
I felt like he was having a personal attack "issue" going on with Piers. It was as if he was hurt along the way. Perhaps he tried out for the same job??? ((ouch, I went there)). I just feel it in my heart that it was more about Toure wanting recognition. Didn't I see Toure mant times back and the dasy and recently commentating on MTV/VH-1/BET.... on music videos and artist and now he is Mr. Black Power and big shot journalist that tears down the guy from over seas?
Jana, Piers is purely an entertainment interviewer and nothing more. He has no journalism background. He was clearly put in his place on his own show. Piers needs an ego check and he got one. Toure clearly took over, stated the facts and showed more journalistic integrity and brains then Piers will ever have. Piers was reduced to silly name calling and looking flustered. He shouldn't have brought him on the show if he couldn't handle hearing the truth!
I completely agree with Trevon. Piers Morgan hasn't been very good from the get go. A huge story has come his way and he has blown it. Big time. Cudos to Trevon for calling him on it. It's about time someone spoke up. Remember Mr. Morgan's roots...a gossip paper. I wish he would go back to jolly old England. Cheerio!
who is "trevon"
I agree. I think Piers tries a little too hard and often gets if wrong. He is a lightweight Nd doesn't push the boundaries like real true professional journalists do. I think he is a bit too comfortable in his chair. Needs to grow some.
I think Piers uses "them" when need be. He was just being compassionate.
Are you saying larry king did that hell no he didn't. I am really sick and tried of people wanting and expecting people to scream at each other and be disrespectful, that is why things never get done.this is a news and entertainment show not meet the press. We live in a world and I think he brings great perspective agree with it or not.
Trevon is dead, toure was on the show.
I think Toure is making this a race issue, unfairly so.
Well donePiers , very professional.
Yes i totally agree with you. Toure' is making this a race issue when it maynot be the case. It seems it was Toure' who has profiled Zimmerman and tried him already. It was a shame to see an unprofessional immatured and ridiculous RACIST like Toure' commenting on Piers who knows more journalism than the number of years Toure' has lived . Shame on NBC for hiring such idiots like Toure'
First, I would like to let you know that racism does exist in America. If we pretend it does not, it is not helping anybody. Secondly, Tour'e was a little hard on Piers. What Tour'e neglected to understand that the more Robert Zimmerman talked the more we noticed he was not telling the truth. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister. They are okay people, are they always honest and never lie, I cannot say that. When he stated that, "if Treyvon would have banged his head one more time, he would of been wearing diapers for the reast of is life" c'mon no explanation needed.
I truly think that George Zimmermna has some mental issues not so much racist issues. Think about it, people watching a community for the program he was a part of, does not take it to the degree as G. Zimmerman did concerning Treyvon. I think if Zimmerman was evaluated we would find that he is a person that likes control and a person that likes tp be praised for is efforts of fighting "crime" etc.... I could be wrong.
Now, back to Tour'e. I think that Tour'e let his emotions get the best of him. Tour'e has researched and studied many issues concerning the Black community, which I do as well. Sometimes being a Black person and studying these sensative issues, one can get emotional. I have read much of his work and have disagreed with him. He is not normally a "jerk". Give him a little slack and Piers as well.
This is an obvious "race issue". Another young unarmed black boy was shot once again in America. Wake up and see the truth. Race is all over this. Stop pretending you don't live in America.
I agree w/ you but the brother's name is Toure not Trevon.
Toure' is his name, Not Trevon
I agree...he allowed that sorry lying Brother , Robert, to put all that nonsense into the Universe... (but we expect that from Zimmerman's Family, right?)
Piers- I think your interview last night with his brother was good. I think Toure is making assumptions like every body else is talking all over and showing that frustration on you. We don't know anything until everything comes out. Its like we are fighting over half truth with limited videos and tapes. I think his brother's story was honest and truthful. Toure appeared rude and disrespectful. He needs to grow up. It has nothing to do you being Brit and its a simple fact that he cannot realize that!!
It is about time someone pointed out what a lightweight Piers Morgan is. His forte is judging entertainment shows (badly). He is NO journalist and CNN NEVER should have given him a serious prime time show. This Toure guy is absolutely right. Piers was a total wimp in his interview with Zimmerman's brother. He sucks as a journalist ... send him back to light fluffy stuff because he cannot handle the job he's been given. Zimmerman's brother fed him bull and he swallowed it. BAD journalism!
Saw that interview also with Robert, I totally agree with you...Piers was wimpy (too soft) But I appreciated the interview because it's amazing how the Zimmerman Family keeps fabricating the story.
Absolutely right, David. Piers has been and will always be a lightweight interviewer until he possesses the compassion for others. Piers is so detached from the everyday man and his problems. It seems as if he tries to compensate by being a bully. This tactic was on full display when Toure was on his show. Piers didn't seem seem to empathize with Toure's point about another black kid who is unarmed and murdered. Regardless of Piers feeling insecure about his having Zimmerman's brother on the show, Piers resorted to bully tactics and complained that Toure didn't know what he was talking about. Piers made it about Piers and not the Trayvon murder. I've stopped watching Piers for good.
Toure's comment regarding Piers nationality is extremely prejudice. I am not a fan of Mr. Morgan, but this interview with Toure was an all time low. Why give this man the airtime?
HMM! Does Tore have a crystal ball? Who elected him the journalist of the year? Oh! and does he have secret access to facts that no one else does? He's crowing like a spoiled brat because other than obviously using a Thesaurus to say the same things over and over again - he didn't get the interview! Also, he doesn't represent the views of anyone except himself. This guy is ridiculous as his only 'defense' is only he seems to understand America. Please! He doesn't understand America at all and he doesn't have a clue what is good for America. In fact, he should be fired for being the worst journalist and for spewing a bunch of BS on national television.
I agree. We need to demand that he is fired. He lacks journalism qualities and needs to grow up.
so right....I watch Piers and believe he's the best,I avoided CNN,especially news,but Piers'show I never miss!!
piers don't change
Spoiled brat is right! What an idiot he is. He really needs to get into a different line of
work. He will never make it as he is. Piers did a good job interviewing Zimmerman. Afterall
his show is not a courtroom, and he is not a lawyer, prosecutor, or judge. It is an interview show
on tv. I would ban that Toure character forever. I wanted to punch him right through my tv.
Such terrible behavior! He is just another angry black man, like so many others. I'm sick of them.
Instead of trying to make the world better, they focus on 200 years ago. Get over it!
Currently watching Treyvon interview with Torry. Really enjoying you showing true unbiased journalism. Hoping for America the truth comes out and justice served. Keep up the fascinating journalism.
Piers is not a judge nor the jury. He is an excellent reporter and is there to help the public with the facts about Trayvon's murder. Piers did an excellent job with interviewing Robert Zimmerman who the world can see that he was fabricating the facts. It doesn't matter what Robert Zimmerman says; the 911 tape, and the eyewitnesses, as well as the tape showing George Zimmerman's physical condition after the murder of Trayvon is evidence enough to ARREST GEORGE ZIMMERMAN. TOURE SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR A SEASONED AND PROFESSIONAL REPORTER.
Good for Toure for insisting his voice be heard. Mr. Morgan who does nothing but interrupt his guests certainly gets his back up when he's interrupted. Piers Morgan should have a show with no guests. He could ask and answer all the questions. Clearly, he hangs on his every word. He is the most arrogant, pompous interviewer on TV. CNN, can't you do better?
Couldn't have said it better. Piers is CNN's best joke.
The only "good" thing Torre' did was look like a fool.
And act like a fool.
Toure for President! Love it! Piers looked like an English twit scrambling for tea and crumpets. Toure obviously told his english a.. off!
Piers has class and interruptions are normal in interviews.
Sorry Victoria, but if wearing a suit and tie and speaking in a british accent gives you class then you brain is warped as well. CLASS is something that is earned. He does not have class. He is a "shock journalist", he had Zimmerman on the show and he acted like a crying baby when Toure read him his rights on TV.
What a rude and disrespectful way to act!! That was not a representation of America in my eyes!! It sounded like Rick Sanchez was feeding him lines lol.
TOURE' what on earth is your issue you did nothing but take out aggression and anger... You will never be a qualified journalist because you have a bias opinion of what you feel 'should be done'....
THUS, why you do not have your own show! and the nerve to question Piers qualifications??? PLEASE GET HIM OFF
Who does he work for? Why is he on TV? He needs to be fired, please don't ever put him on TV. Incredibly ignorant! I do not want to be a woman of color right now this is painful.
Toure was the best thing on the show. He got his points out accurately. Furthermore, Piers was flustered because Piers knew he didn't do a good job having Zimmerman on the show. When Toure told him the TRUTH, Piers came across as a silly school boy that was scolded and is now having a tantrum. We all saw the same show. Piers couldn't say one thing back to Toure but criticize him personally. Piers felt stupid and instead of admitting guilt, he did what all children do, hide behind other issues and point fingers at the truth teller. Piers, PLEASE GO BACK TO ENGLAND! We've stopped watching you here in the USA.
Who is this guy? MSNBC has been trying to get more innocent people hurt. Please stand your ground. I have never seen this guy.
This guy is a nut can't imagin he is with NSMBC
Actually, Toure is very smart. Piers came across as the nut. Piers is a journalist. He should have a clear understanding of what that is and do his job accordingly. Toure told him off and you feel nervous watching it. Piers deserved to be put in his place.
Al Sharpton is on MSNBC who rather than spreading love and peace is spreading hate and war. What a Reverend.
Agreed, Victoria! Al Sharpton has done more to create racial unrest than any man I know. Instead of preaching brotherly love and a unified world of peace, he's always the first to take up a cause and drive a wedge between people based on race...and normally, it's without his having any of the facts.
So Al Sharpton should learn his place and stay there. He should not protest injustice in this country. This is America and he should love it or leave it. You are right, this black man should learn his place. He is a hate monger. Shame on you Al Sharpton for pointing out America's ills. Racism, what racism?
You are very right Victoria! Both Sharpton and Jesse Jackson only make situations worse with all
their hatred and negativity. They both love to stir up the pot and make it smell even worse. When I see
any of these "so called Reverands" on tv, I turn the channel. If they don't like it here, and the way things
are, there is always the option to move away. They make me sick with their huge desire for the spot light.
Toure is a total jerk, and I hope and pray I never see his snarly face again. Good riddance!
Toure's the best thing on TV. He should take over Piers show. Piers needs to retire and go to journalism school.
I know. I LOVE TOURE! I hope we see more of him on TV. He's a REAL journalist. We need more of those. Bye bye, Piers...
There are no real journalists today on the cable networks; I find them all to be opinionated shows, including Morgan's show.
It is completely inappropriate (and distracting from the important matter of the young man that has been murdered) for Toure to be disrespecting Piers in the way that he is. I saw the interview with Robert Zimmerman, and feel it was handled appropriately. I am black, and Toure does not represent my perspective. Additionally, I think it takes intelligence and compassion to understand the matters underlying the Trayvon Martin story...not being born in America. Piers, kick this dude off your show, and get back to covering the story as you have. Isn't this guy a music reporter anyway???
absolutely agree...Toure is an embarrassment to the Trayvon cause. Piers is part of the solution...his origins notwithstanding. It is about time tolerance becomes a virtue.
Toure shut up
How opened minded of you to want to stifle Toure's right to freedom of speech.
I don't think it was as much a matter of freedom of speech as it was a matter of not being so ugly in his (Toure's) remarks. They were VERY hurtful and brutal!!! All it did for me was make me disgusted with Toure!
Toure keep speaking the truth! Piers, shut up and go back to school!
Toure has a right to speak his mind, Barbara! How dare you tell him he can't educate America. Piers was doing a poor job on his on show. Toure simply schooled him on the truth. Deal with it!
Toure is the epitome of the most idiotic black reaction to anything 12 seconds from his location. Black Americans have to respect the knowledge of people who know more of what goes on here in the US. Does anyone know where Toure went to get a token journalism degree?
He got it out of a buble gum machine.
relative to yours?
The last time I checked the color of my skin, it was white.
Piers is one of the lamest interviewers around. He doesn't even give Touré a chance to reply and constantly berates the man as he attempts to answer. This is typical of Piers. He is a bully, a tempered journalist. What ever was CNN thinking putting Morgan in such a position. I rarely watch the show any more and even when I do it is for moments and then I have to turn away. Don't judge the good people of England by this twit. He picks fights as I switch back to watch this terrible interview.
Piers do not argue with a fool.... Toure is too emotional and should not be to be on air..
Toure is way over the top. Regarding you not challenging Robert on how George didn't appear to injured. You didn't need to push any more because you appreciate the fact that your viewers have eyes and can assess the video for ourselves. Hats off to you for staying professional.
Yep! I agree!!!
As an African-American, I am really put off by Toure', Piers' interview style and format is not the same as Lawrence O'Donnell.
This is a waste of time.
No one has answered my question. Why do people need to know your race when posting a comment? Either you dislike or like what went on tonight. Period.
Because brobin, if you watched the interview you would have realized that Toure felt that he could speak for all African Americans and made and assumption that, collectively, we were with him on this one. And, simply put, we were not. It was not for yours or any other person's benefit that some of us (not all of us) identified our race, it was due to the manner in which Toure, presented his opinion.
Toure has a very wonderful style. Best journalist on TV I've seen in a long time. Piers was humiliated on his own show by a smarter man than himself. I'm so elated Piers finally came face to face with truth.
Toure should answer the question of black on black very young killings. Do they treat them the same way?
Why did Peirs even give this guy any air time at all. In all the years I've watched ANY news interviews I've never seen anyone as senseless as this Toure.
OMG!!! Talk about a pompous angry black man...who certainly does speak about my pain as a black man with that vocabulary...NOT a professional.....Hope MSNBC drops the idiot...
I am black and American and toure sounds like an idot.
Now you see why politicians go to CNN and not Rachel Meadow or others on MSNBC. They get challenged about their crap on MSNBC and not on CNN. This is why the media is so weak. It is because the media is afraid to push back and challenge politicians and others on their crap.
Sure, you're a "black american"? "Black american's" never say that. Now that we know you're white please send a congratulations to Toure. Toure cleaned the floor with that English twit!
Wow! Please don't have this guy on your show again! Very disrespectful and full of himself! Blah, blah, blah .............
Patti, Toure was so wonderful. Glad you agree. Piers should leave the air for people with journalistic integrity.
Piers – GOOD JOB tonight
Toure had an emotional stake in this. Besides the fact that he's a GREAT journalist, he really cared. Piers didn't seem to care about Trayvon. He seemed to care that he was being admonished on TV. Piers cares about Piers. If Toure sticking up to Piers makes you feel uncomfortable, look inside yourself more. Toure had the right to be emotional. Another innocent child has been killed senselessly. Just because Toure raised his voice (so did Piers) doesn't make him "angry". The "angry" black man point you brought up is your way of not dealing with the subject at hand. It shows your true racism and ignorance. Toure is equal to Piers and should comfortable telling Piers off when he's wrong. Toure had the guts to do it. Piers looked out of his element. Piers should NEVER have Zimmerman on the show. Bad choice on Piers part. Piers has a lot to learn about being a good journalist. The questions he asked Zimmerman didn't lead him down a road of learning more about his brother. They were questions about the night Trayvon was murdered. Zimmerman's brother wasn't there, so it was irresponsible to have him on the show in the first place! All Zimmerman's brother was doing was telling the public and Piers hearsay. Piers knew it was bull.... Piers failed us all.
Who is this arrogant twit? Toure? Toure who? What a disgrace! Piers destroyed his argument. Kudos, Pier.
Pierce, as an american I apologize for this Toure person. He is not only rude, but also completely biased – it is exactly people like him who make the situation difficult.
I agree with both Andrew and Christine. I was wondering if I were the only one. That Toure really made us look bad. I hate that people like him get a chance to voice thir opinion but people like me donot. I would like to tell Toure to shut his mouth and think before he speaks. The only comment Toure made well was about relating Emmit Till to this crime. I wasglade somebody finally did. And to let Toure know a little something. You donot have to be from America to know our history! The most intelligent well respected Black History Professor I ever had was a White man named Martin, from Germany. I learned more in his class than I did with Professors from Africa.
I do believe in my heart of hearts that Zimmerman is guilty formany reasons. Not because I am black but because the information that we have prooves it. Zimmerman was wrong for following Trayvon after he was told not too. This prooves thatsomethings has never changed. I do believe in my heart if Trayvon was not black, this would have never happend and regardless of what anyone thinks, we blacks from the hood knows whats up.. Sorry. I love america and being American but i do have to keep it real.
On behalf of the African American community, I would like to apologized to Mr. Morgan for that EDUCATED FOOL Toure! I watched the interview last night the Zimmerman brother and what i witness was Morgan allowing Zimmerman to make a fool of himself. I enjoyed it. Anyone who can process information will clearly hear and see that Morgan was not buying Zimmerman's bull. Also that EDUCATED FOOL TOURE could have started a professional war between two networks! If Toure's network was mocking or laughing at Morgan; shoukd have kept that to himself. Boy, I cant wait to finish college so I can take the place of Toure and show him how to Rep for us BLACKs. Because he made us look like fools. And for the record. He does not speak for me. Good job Morgan on allowing Toure and Zimmerman to make fools of themselves....
I had a few typos in my comments earlier. I meant Toure was wrong, I watched Piers on this story and others and that Piers nor myself is not badgering others. Sorry everyone
Tia, thank god there are sensible people like you in this world. Too bad you couldn't be on television. It makes me feel like there's hope for us all.
And for the record, I am with you. He appears to be a radial African American with a lot of anger and is a disgrace to the decent African Americans.
For your information, Toure is no disappointment to the African American community. I am very proud of his take on the matter and I agree with him. And I don't care how many imbeciles get on this board and talk badly about Toure, he was the guest at Piers' station and Piers was rude, talked over Toure, easily took offense to almost everything Toure said and showed himself to be a hypocrite. He called Toure names online but tried to call him out on TV about calling Zimmerman names. What a phony! Exactly what I expected from a former editor of Rupert Murdock's News of the World. He's NAILED former guests to the wall, which by the way is his reputation, but couldn't seem to muster up the courage last night to ask George Zimmerman's brother tough questions that had been either disproven by new evidence or was unable to be substantiated based on eyewitness testimony disputing his take on the matter. Piers is an egomaniac who doesn't get it and that's fine. He hasn"t been reared in America, doesn't understand the hurt and pain in the souls of people of color, in our country, and can't relate to it without experiencing it first hand! But we know that simply will not happen. Will it?
Victoria, Toure is a shining example for ALL americans. Victoria, you're a disgrace to all americans. You've been writing racist rants all over this blog. Please get some mental help!
Piers. I am very proud of you for standing your grounds. Toures came across as an unprofessional idiot. Was he at the scene of the crime to have all the answers?
Please educate yourself on the fact that you can not speak for an entire race of people.
I'm an African-American woman and you have no right to apologize on my behalf or any other African-American, for that matter. WHO do you think you are? Set your ego to the wayside and get over yourself! I fully support Toure. What he said what absolutely RIGHT! So, Piers you do not have my apologies. If anything, you might want to apologize to Toure for talking over him, after asking him questions. That was disrespectful of you and you showed your ignorance and insensitivity amongst many within the black community. I am one of them. That's no RUBBISH!!
Pearl, I totally agree with you. How people can support Pier's ignorance and possible racism is beyond me. My husband and I happen to be white (we are all part of the human race, maybe some more than others) and wish we could've participated in the marches in FL. Part of the anger people feel, other than the blatant racism of Zimmerman, is the fact that he is still a free man. No arrest or perhaps arrested in handcuffs and then released. The case totally mishandled by the police. The truth will emerge thanks to residents who made 911 calls reporting the crime and others who will speak up. I am totally disgusted with the comments on this site against Toure. Thank goodness someone like Toure is not afraid to speak the truth and address our history of prejudice towards African Americans. Sad, very sad that we haven't evolved much as humans, isn't it?
It sounds like Toure has it all figured out and knows everything. Pretty sad that people have no respect on TV (not talking about you Piers) that you cannot finish a statement but yet he is telling you that you are not professional. Thank God he is not the judge or jury! My 8 year old daughter was watching the show with me tonight and even she stated how Toure is very disrespectful. Would he be this upset and talking over you if the person was not african american? Just woundering. Everyone has there own oppinion but if more people showed respect and spoke to people like they are human beings maybe everyone would get alot further. No matter what is said or how it is said you have a young boy that passed away and man that shot him. No matter what the outcome is no one wins! Thank you for your time,
Way to STAY professional!!! You handled the silly remarks of Touré extremely well. **clapping hands**
The issue is that everyone seems to be rushing to convict this guy wether he is guilty or not. I know there were some issues with the initial investigation which might actually acquit Zimmerman. But, we all need to stop and allow the Justice System deal with this issue. The system is not flawless but it is the best we got and the best in the world. This idiot debating Piers is CLEARLY a RACIST!!! His tweets, which are racist, he explains as "black humor" but if a white person said the same thing about a black person we would be a racist and need to be arrested on a hate crime. Get over it people, slavery ended years ago, stop blaming the white man. Its an old and useless argument which no longer holds water.
I completely agree with Toure. I watch Piers every night because I'm always tuned in to CNN, but I find HIM to be fatuous, slick, oily, insincere, and completely unprepared for the demands of serious journalism, namely, he lacks curiosity and an ability to respond quickly to new information. I agreed with everything Toure said, and I have wondered many, many times what the h- Piers is doing on a show that prides itself on "keeping them honest."
I AGREE JUDITH IS BROTHER WAS LYING AND WE ALL KNEW THIS I THINK TORRAY IS UPSET THAT THIS REMIND US OF EMMET TILL SAD
I agree. Everyone is saying how unprofessional Toure was, I think Morgan was the one who completely lost it; throwing out non-agruments like "rubbish' and getting completely self-absorbed about his journalism credentials.
Piers, let me congratulate you on the FIRST objective interview I've seen to date about the Trayvon Martin story (re: Robert Zimmerman). I saw Toure's comments and was in disbelief! Like too many media types today, he has obviously formed his opinion and now is attempting to further his own agenda in his subjectivity. You are a breath of fresh air in the search for truth and informing the public. You, and possibly you alone, will not have to apologize when the tension explodes due to a fueling of the fire based on emotions rather than the facts caused by irresponsible "journalism" by the media...which I'm sure Toure will NOT have the guts or class to take any responsibility for.
I agree with Jay M–Piers has the only really objective coverage of this story. Piers: if you read these comments, please please keep giving your objective view. This country does not need race riots over this case. Every day black, white, brown, citizens are killed by thugs and no one even notices. This case is one of purported self-defense, and we must have all the information before the country implodes over this.
Sorry Piers but you played softball with Zimmerman's brother. I was siting on the edge of my seat the entire interview....waiting for you to raise your voice just a little...You m,missed the boat...
Agreed. I watch just enough to get the same feeling. I can't believe the comments in Morgan's favour on this topic. The man is embarrassing.
Piers you are a stand up guy. I watched the entire interview yesterday and think you did a great job. I was only disturbed by one instance, when Robert Z Jr misquoted a statement by Trayvon to his girlfriend, saying Trayvon told her "I am not going to run I am going to walk slow"...this had NEVER been stated in any acounts. According to the statements in the media Trayvon said he wasn't going to run he was going to walk FAST. When there was no follow up to his statement about that I just imagined that you didn't hear it then and would catch it on the play back or one of the producers would point it out later. I would have liked to see Robert Z Jr been asked to retract and corret that statement.
All in all you did a great job as usual. Toure is RUDE and combative and did nothing to contribute to the conversation. He was insulting and now we will probably lose much needed international support for this movement because nut jobs like Toure will make them feel like they can't sympathesize with "American" issues...when in fact this is a justice issue and justice last time I checked was a human right.
piers morgan is simply not up to the task of serious journalism. he really is a joke. and while I really dislike toure, I cannot argue with his criticism of morgan. cnn is better than morgan and it is about time they found someone for this slot who can ask the tough questions and not let guests like zimmerman's brother treat it like a pr junket. he did a terrible job on that interview ... terrible. an embarrassment to cnn really.
Nice job Piers. You handelled it professionally. Keep it up, continue to be fair and give both sides a chance to talk
The unprofessional one is Toure. What a jerk. You my dear fellow are very professional and glad to have you in America.
Thought Toure was so rude to Pierce. No need to resort to that just to make a point. Yes the brother's interview was pure B.S but we all knew that -even Pierce. Toure needs to take a chill pill.
It appears to me your last guest was not offered the job you got. I am happy you stood your ground and used professionalism.
Piers is sensible and tough as nails with this guy Toure as he must be. Piers needs to check out Trayvon's two Twitter accounts. His vulgar, leaning toward violent tweets need to be exposed. This young man is about more than Skittles and it is time for the media, especially CNN, to get the truth to the public. The African American community is causing a race problem with this. It must be stopped. There is black on white crime that never sees the light of the media. I am appalled at the biased reporting of this case. Piers, you are our only hope. Please look at Trayvon's tweets. You can google the topic and find them. You will be shocked and saddened by this young mans awful comments.
I have rarely watched CNN in this time slot since Piers was hired. He bring a yellow tabloid type of journalism to CNN. His credibility is already suspect from the phone tapping scandal. I too feel he has no understanding of the civil rights struggle of African Americans. His experience is very different from white Americans who lived through the Civil Rights Movement. He is just an ordinary entertainer who is not very entertaining.
Morgan did a very credible job in both interviews, especially Toure, who is a real idiot, and not very objective. I want someone like Morgan interviewing the brother, in a calm, organized and non-threatening way. It was actually quite brilliant. "Fatuous" was the perfect word to use to descibe the "cltural expert" Toure, who lost a lot of credibilty in his field. If he is truly a joiurnalist (is he?) he should be fired by MSNBC. Fatuous or fathead that he is..
Since when do you have to live here to give a good interview. People may not understand what black Americans have been through but they still can have compassion when someone is gun down. Stop putting yourself in a box. We are all in this world together. Everybody is not racist. At least Piers can sit down and talk about it. What are you doing to change things? By the way, I am African American.
Waqtching the video of the zimmerman arrest, it seems strange. Everytime I have ever seen a person arrested, even in TV shows, there is no time when the person in hand cuffs is walking alone. A police officer always has contact with the person that is under arrest. It seems like taking zimmerman to the police station was just for show.
Why not see where zimmerman lived, and see if the the shooting took place on the way to the target store, then get zimmerman's brother back on the air to back it up.
I've never heard such racist nonsense as the interview with Toure, it is he who is the racist, he seems to have a very blinkered memory as to all of the crimes/killings that black men do against whites e.g the 2 totally innocent boys in Florida in November last year that were shot and killed as a bet in Florida but there were no protests or bounties on these boys heads! I think what happened to Treyvone is absolutely devastating but until the police have the facts everyone is just guessing as to what happened.
I agree Helen! What happened to due process in this country!
for some of us justice seems more important than due process.
Why does this Tores choose to display this level of ignorance and outright stupidity. It's obvious which side piers is on. We have enough enemies on this and we not need to antagonize our friends.
i thought the interview was horrible and piers seemed sympathetec to an angry man whos brother killed a child. not watching again, ever.
Piers, I watch you every night and have found you to be a consumate professional journalist. I admired how you handled yourself in this difficult interview with Toure. Your interview with Robert Zimmerman was conducted in a manner by which you challenged his side of the story, intertwined with an attempt to get to the truth and with an eye on objectivity. Keep up the good work and know that there are thousands of us who love what you do on CNN.
To all who have rushed to comment, trying Zimmerman in the media, street and congress, as well as our president (who has been as silent as all on the BOUNTY placed on a citizen of the US dead or alive by the Black Panthers), shame on you all. We teach our children to be patient, honest and respectful and to not jump to conclusions before knowing all there is about someone or something. Tweeting people's address who are not involved and now having to hide in fear away from their AMERICAN HOME. So called newscasters spewing their biased views in place of fact checked news. Millions being made off the death of another AMERICAN is getting out of hand. Supposed outraged students not in school but robbing Walgreens. To turn up the heat you refer to his race (Zimmerman’s) as WHITE HISPANIC! When on air has this been said before of any race? Oprah has commented and convicted to prove my point!
The police referred to him as Hispanic - guess that u missed that ! or cjose to ignore it !
Well said, Sonny! Agree 100%
Here is the deal Piers, you asked the reporter if he thought Zimmerman was guilty and he told you his honest opinion. Imagine if there were no 911 tapes or video showing how the story played out, than there would be a lot of hearsay about this case, but that is not the situation here. Those 911 tapes and the video clearly contradict the assertions Zimmerman has made. Zimmerman deserves a fair trial, but he also must be put on trial.
This was another example of the hysteria about the event in Fla. I was glad to see some one stand up for the " search for truth" as I was worried that ALL the networks were going the way of the " fair and balanced" one...and just sensationalism before any facts come out. I'll be watching the show just to see if it will still be unbiased for EVERYONE...
Right on PIers! It is great to hear you calling out Touré for his BS. I am a 53 year old American White Male and I am sick and tired of hearing these liberal self appointed Cultural experts tell us we are uneducated and unable to form a meaningul opinion. Since you are British, you are able to call him on it! As an American, I would be called a racist for saying the exact same thing. I hope you don't allow this punk on your program again. America is moving past this racial divide, witness the WHITE people who elected Barack Obama! I guess Touré wants to return to the hyperbole of the past. Keep up the good work!
Did you vote for Obama, Voos?
Toure must have snapped tonite and as a Black and American toure sounded like a fool
Kudos Piers. What an embarassment to the black community to have the likes of Toure speaking on behalf of the Martin family. He is one of the most unprofessional individuals you have introduced on your show. Shame, shame on him.
I thought Larry King was bad. You are horrible. Toure should have torn your head off. You don't know about the murder of Emmett Till; you only know light weights like Lionel Ritchie and that Whitney Huston dribble drabble. Stick to what you know and it ain't black pain or white racism. You want a qualified opinion, as (Dr.) Condoleezza Rice or the black people wrongfully imprisoned in this country. Please, either shut or take yourself and your family away (aka off of American media).
PS And the way you tried to railroad Gloria Allred and Lisa Bloom is a disgrace.
Toure should be released from his job if his style is considered being a journalist. He basically discriminated against Mr. Morgan for being British. Really? Like Americans are the only ones that know the history of the Africans? It has only happened in this country? Any journalist who claims to know about American history should know that no professional on air should never try and hang a person with a judge of one. Everyone deserves a trial with their peers. Mr. Toure, you need to brush up on American History.
After watching your interview withToure, it seems that he is to American justice and race relations what Fox News is to the American political discourse and responsible governance.
So much for ever tuning into CNBC for news. Wow. That's gotta be embarrassing for that whole network.
Touré was absolutely correct. Why didn't Piers show the same passion he showed towards Toure in the interview he did with Zimmerman? Piers pushed Toure but could not push Zimmerman on his crap. So Toure proved his point. CNN always try to play it down the middle and sit on the fence that is why CNN is usually last in programing. There is a reason CNN hired Piers and could not find any host in this country. Anyone ever asked why CNN has no African American host in there prime time line up. Just maybe they do not want to offend white America.
I found Mr. Morgan behavior gutter racist and insensitive towards african americans he is not qualified after his 6 year stay in america to speak about blacks and their experinces in thei country. I have always said who the hell is he the usual arrogant , self appointed british ass hole! He really needs to stay away from subject matter that he is unfamiliar too. How dare he berate an african american journallist who seems to be more versed on this subject than he. Mr. Morgan maybe you should move to the black neighborhoods in america and report from that space than your seat at a desk at CNN. Your behavior was totally racist in nature and I am surprised that CNN is letting this type of thing happen
Don't know where this guy gets his information. He is very rude and disrespectful. I believe that we should just wait and let the jury decide who is guilty. Not be quick to judge. America clearly has not heard all of the facts yet. Piers is an awsome reporter.
A young black boy is dead because someone was judge and jury in his case. This person has not even been arrested.
Exactly! The very point everyone seems to forget or ignore.
He was arrested. The lead investigator, first on scene did not believe Zimmerman's account of events. It was the state attorneys office that refused to charge Him. Arrest is different than being charged. What you are wanting is him Charged and to stand Trial.
There's this thing called probable cause that you need before arresting someone. I'm guessing the Eric Holder led justice dept isn't going to let this slide if there is enough for an arrest so everyone should slow their roll til the facts come out.
Unfortunately Torues just used Pierce as a spring board to promote himself and MSNBC...He was a nobody...looking for a hook..To Bad Piers and CNN took the bait....Kudos to MSNBC....because I just looked them up...too bad Toures is just as bad as his debate with Piers was.......Toures was/is just looking to climb the ladder at MSNBC....IT BACK FIRED!!!!
You are so wrong. You're on the east coast and the west coast. If you'd grown up in middle America, in Rush-Limbaugh-Cape-Girardeau territory like I did, you'd know Toure is right. Do you live in a place where people still call President Obama the 'n' word? Do you know what it's like to live with people, your own family and best friends, who say the president's mother shouldn't have "laid in with a black"? You live in the la-la lands of America. Which is where I live these days, in northern California, because I couldn't live like that anymore. But do you know how many people in America would wish Trayvon harm, because of his skin and his hoodie? If you don't, I suggest listening more and talking less.
Mr. Morgan is a most qualified and professional journalist. He speaks "the King English" , is unbiased during his interviews and is spot on regarding the fracture of both the American political and class structures.
Always a GENTLEMAN!
Sign me "a very satisfied Canadian viewer!
Canadian, eh? King English. Mean you not the Queen's English, hoser. Ha!
NICE JOB TONIGHT PIERS!!! KEEP IT UP!!!
Piers, you did challenge zimmerman's brother throughout the interview and Toure is totally out of line critisizing you on that point, and speaking completely out of turn too in your interview. Toure seems to be very inflammatory and that kind of discourse does not help though I fully feel as I think you do that this case needs to be investigated thoroughly. You stood your ground in a very unreasonable discourse and handled it very graciously. Toure's way of talking does not help the black cause or civil discourse.
I find it absolutely arrogant and pompas of Pierce Morgan to claim that he understands the deep wounds of African-Americans surrounding racism and discrimination in America. He can't possibly relate to any black male's experience in America. I surely doubt Pierce Morgan has been stopped by police for being white and British in America. I certainly doubt Pierce Morgan has been denied access to jobs an other opportunities because of the color of his skin. I certainly doubt he will ever be stopped or pursued if he decided to don a hoodie while walking or jogging in his neighborhood. On the contrary he benefits from the color of his white skin. He should not presume to consider himself an expert on America let alone black America just because he's been in this country seven years.
I think I will move on from MSNBC if this is the type of "professional journalist" they hire.
Toure should have said what; yes master or no master, or only speak when spoken to?
The Toure guy is behaving like a total mess. That being said, he has made a good point about Morgan's lack of journalistic intregrity. What is ironic is that he has done so not by his poor actions, but simply by being allowed on the show. What good journalist would air such a pointless interview, which takes away from the seriousness of this tragic case? The only reason this was aired is because poor Morgan's feelings were hurt by another bad journalist. Any reporter worth his salt would have fought back Toure on twitter, by releasing a press statement, etc. Using your "journalistic" platform to air a petty feud is pathetic, and stinks of a desperate ratings grab. Both have proven the selves as terrible journalists and even worse human beings. Shame on both of them for using the death of a young man for ratings, attention and a bad p*ssing contest. Disgusting!
CNN, You try to treat your prime time as a series of "Network" like programs and you have a clearly, lower caste Brit, Piers Morgan, patronize an invited guest about journalism. Piers journalistic ethics are less than stellar and to treat a guest by berating him of a biased opinion and then touting his own opinion is when his program lacks viewership. One can see he is getting fleshy in appearance since the show started. A fat-headed opinionated middle class nebbish not worthy of an intelligent program time slot. CNN has ridden the middle of the see-saw as a false pretense and lost it's voice and integrity. Keeping Piers on-air is a programming error... CNN needs an A. Huffington figure for a half hour then another counter point half hour to create your prided balance. A point – counter point hour. To have to viewpoints at the same time is blowing hot air. Cancel Piers's contract and clean up the important news-hour.
Piers your ego-melt down was pathetic. How about you get control of yourself? You really don't understand America. This is one of the only modern regions where we create laws for justifiable homicide! Thirty years, our political system has been corrupted to server people like you Piers. We have health care system designed to pump wealth into a too powerful economy of finance which for foreigners like you is great tax shelter. Meanwhile, your world scale hacker Fox Nation and ALEC writes laws for a handful of activists to increase justifiable homicide by three times.
I had too turn your Zimmerman interview off in thirty seconds it was so bad. He sat there trying drop these contrived parts of a story built by his expert father a magistrate from Virginia, and you just let him roll with little challenge.
Are you kidding me? Shameful display of reverse racism... Toure is telling Piers that he has no rights in America, Piers isn't from here so he has no right to speak or understand ? Humm,,, this sounds very familiar. This moron Toure just threw history back 20 steps with his racist comments! Piers, your a true gentleman and handled yourself with dignity....
I tend to agree with Toure, even though I like Peirs. Peirs needed to be tougher on his brother. The whole idea that that Trayvon is going to find Zimmerman's gun and try to shoot him is just erroneous. Nevertheless, Not sure Toure did any good for Trayvon with this arguement. All he did was excaberate the racial polarization.
Piers.... I watch you everyday.... You've grown on me and I respectfully like you.... This Toure creep was so out of order to come on your program and act like an idiot!!! He was so disrespectful and insulting it made me sick to my stomach!!! You handled yourself as a true professional.... I would told him to F&#% HIMSELF!!!!
I, wholeheartedly, agree with Toure! Great job, Toure!! Of course, Trayvon was murdered. However you believe the incident happened...this one thing we know. George Zimmerman was TOLD by the police dispatcher to stop pursuing this young 17 year old boy and to let the police handle the situation. He refused to listen and continued to pursue the boy. The boy ends up dead!! That we know for a fact. His father & brother claim that his head was being bashed in to the point where he would've ended up in a nursing home. BULL! I don't see any signs of a beating like that in the arrest video. Maybe that's why the Mayor of the town stated the police department didn't want the video released. Maybe it's just that they knew they had reasonable cause to press charges & someone at the top, namely the Brevard-Seminole State Attorney Norm Wolfinger, decided not to pursue charges. The lead investigator should have been trusted to do his job. He did not believe Zimmerman and the case should've proceeded as a homicide investigation until further evidence said, otherwise. Piers doesn't understand America!! You can't live in America for 7 years & know the Soul of America! He has never been harrassed b/c of the color of his skin or the kind of car he drives. GIVE ME A BREAK!!
This the best TV I have seen at 9:00pm ... I love Piers Civility and British (Stiff Upper Lip) , I love the passion Touré American brutishness and sensiblities....
AWESOME ..when is ROUND TWO ..... MORE MORE
Toures was rong for this attack on Piers. It was uncalled for and not needed at this time. I have followed Piers on this stiort and others and he was being fair and honest. It is not his job to bagger a peson and called them a liar while interviewing them. I am a African American woman and I am following the Martin case closely but I am not baggering and being hostile to others.I am waiting to see what the law does and pray an arresst will be made. Piers keep doing your style of reporting. I enjoyed you and Lionel Richie.
Couldnt have said it better, its not his job to hammer the witness, he was dispassionate as a journalist should be, but still asked deep penetrative questions. i know trayvon was murdered from the available facts, but we need to go through the legal system.i think the combative style of toure, al sharpton makes its very hard for us black people to protest wrongs without appearing confrontational.
Toure was very patronizing towards piers, telling him his nationality made him clueles on Trayvon, how rude, bigoted is that.
toure needs to snack on some ice, and cool down.
I am so happy how Piers Morgan conducted himself in such a way that made Toure' look like a fool! I am a black young woman and Toure' in no way, shape or form represents me nor my family!!!! God Bless.
Amen Courtney!!!! Shame on Toure! Piers handled his business. Piers has been out front and on target with reporting the Martin Zimmerman case.
I think he is trying to be "someone" and he is the biggest jerk I ever saw on t.v. A total big mouth who can't get his point across without being insulting. Msnbc is nothing to brag about – A joke just like him. All these people who just can't let the law take it's course. I wonder what he thinks about the black panthers putting out a witch hunt out to commit murder.
The joke is he most likely thinks he acted like a intelligent person. JOKE
What a racist bucnch of crap. I cannot believe he said you have no valiliaty because you are not born in this country .Common sense is common sense no matter where you are born. White people are not the problem or Pres. Obama would have not been elected . l
Wow, I cant believe what I just witnessed. As an african american, its extremely easy to formulate a biased opinion about Zimmerman; however, I rely on facts....Toure on the other hand does not!! He was clearly out of line with his comments on Morgan's British descent–which could have easily been a form of "racial" profiling in itself! Piers, I personally believe you have done an outstanding job covering this tragedy!
Toure, You have just single handedly undermined the credibility of your very own message. Your arrogance and self-involvement is embarassing. Do us all a favor and stay out of the dialogue. We need progressive dialogue, not ignorant rhetoric void of fact.
I can not believe that Piers or CNN could think that viewers want to watch two "journalists" criticize each others style of interviewing. I had to turn it off because it was becoming such an ego fest. And I was just starting to feel that Piers was getting more comfortable in his role. Larry King might have stayed on air too long, but he sure brought out the humaness and honesty in most of his guests. Larry come back!!
Jane you should have stayed on. Piers did extremely well and as for the other he looked like he was high on ego, drugs or what ever.
I found Morgan behavior to be totally unacceptable and his line of questioning made me think he is in some support of this zimmerman fellow. I think you really should take that racist , Nazi behavior back to britian where it seems acceptable. And please get to know more black folks before commenting on them. I bet you have no black that eat at your table on a regular basis , yet your the onr that will say "i'm not racist and pull up a few blacks who cant say what your address is or anthing about your family becasue " they are your friends" give me a break. Your behavior was unprofessional .
I think its rude to refer to piers as a nazi, i am a black woman, and people who reason like you and cannt agree to disagree and get all stroppy, knickers in a twist huff and puff, because you think piers didnt do a great interview with zimm brother, because he wasnt as confrontational as al sharpton style, need to get a grip.
his questions to the brother were penetrative and made zimmerman brother very uncomfortable, please chill, leave piers alone
nice job Piers! msnbc is trying to pressure the FL. authorities by indicating that anything other than an arrest and conviction will mean that justice was not done and as a result violence will follow-–no one knows the facts of the case and i hope that officials will not be affected by the threats of violence if the liberals do not receive their idea of justice regardless of the facts and due process-justice must be about the facts and the truth NOT an appeasement for threats to satisfy an agenda!!!!!!
Pierce well done you are a professional in my book and in a very professional way you put this guy in place , he is bias and he can be reporting on this any more, he already thing Simerman is guilty and WE DO NOT HAVE ALL THE FACTS. Yes we all have our doubts about what the brother say but we need to wait for all the facts and we have to remember even in this case we all are innocents until prove guilty.
Note to Touré:
I’ve always thought very highly of your professionalism until this evening on Piers Morgan’s show. I think you've perhaps now damaged your career and credibility. I empathize with your passion in this case; however, attacking another journalist attempting to extract information by means somewhat different from those which you might have utilized is beneath you. You owe Piers an apology. Just agree to disagree with your choice of methods. You simply looked tonight like a black man that blames white people for everything that’s ever happened to black people – that’s just ridiculous. You’re stereotyping Piers Morgan and acting like George Zimmerman likely did with Trayvon Martin.
Give us some credit out here in TV viewer land. We’re not just believing everything we see on TV, or from George Zimmerman’s brother, as absolute truth.
Who is this Toure guy? Have never heard of him. What a naive idiot who thinks he knows it all. How arrogant that he thinks he understands America and he understands what true journalism is. Is he intentionally trying to be an a&# to get any kind of publicity he possibly can – trying to get a job somewhere? CNN and Piers - why would you waste air time on this tool.
Finally FIRE WORKS ... TV ON
This the best TV I have seen at 9:00pm ... I love Piers Civility and British (Stiff Upper Lip) maybe thin skin too , I love the passion Touré's American brutishness, gall to call out Piers like that and sensibilities....(Credit Must Be GIVEN TO PIERS FOR ENTERTAINING IT)
Loved it!!!! Toure didn't mince words which raised the ire in Piers and forced him to uncomfortably become a provacateur as well. Great TV
As one who has worked in the field of investigative interviewing for 25 years and literally co-wrote the book for investigators, Piers Morgan is one of the best questioners i have observed. No reason for my writing that other than it is my professional opinion. Investigative interviewers have to bite the bullet often to get information from subjects, to maintain narrative responses. I'm sure Mr. Morgan has personal opinions on just about everything, as do we all – one key to effective interviewing is to keep them talking without showing judgment. When an interviewer feels too passionately about a situation to conduct the interview, s/he must pass it off to another or become a community activist.
I meant to say biased. Now he glibly goes to Reba McIntyre. How insignificant can you be. And I love Reba. C NN Maybe Piers needs to go
The primary point that has merit is that 6 years in America does not provide an understanding of race relations in this country. Even Dr. Drew is admitting that he has not comprehended the issues of growing up black. I would have liked to see Piers admit his limitations rather than dismissing the remark.
I am just chiming in with others who found this Toure guy totally disrespectful and question why a so-called major news network would call him an employee. He doesn't appear to be capable of professional journalism. The only network I think might be interested in him is FOX. Piers, you are great!
Pierc's disarming manner with the Zimmerman brother was extraordinarily effective at prompting Zimmerman to reveal to the world the absurdity of his assertions. Professionals like Pierce understand that direct confrontation is sometimes far less effective than prompting people to reveal themselves. And as for Toure....what a fool.
Wow, Toure just handed Piers his knickers!!! Go back to England, bloak – this is America! Don't you remember we defeated you Brits and kicked you out. Toure just did it again! Professional journalist? More like entertainment show judge or football (we say soccer) color commentator. He asked Toure a personal opinion, the debate premise became one of opinon, thus once you ask a personal question you get a personalized answer. That bears no journalistic integrity its a straight answer. Piers reminds me of a character in Oliver Twist – the artful dodger – THANK you very much!
Piers – Screw Touré!!! You should have pulled the plug on him. You don't have to be black, white or any other color or from America to understand the depth of this case. People are fighting racism all across the world. Touré is full of crap and as a black woman, I am offended by his arrogant, obnoxious, silly and ignorant behavior!! You did a great job by keeping your composure with someone who came unarmed with wits to a debate.
Good show , Toure. I watched the interview with some pain. I also felt Zimmerman brother was putting lies and trying to formulate stories to make it sound true. If Piers and the rest actually knows what we go through. he will have been more forceful in the interview. We live to see.
I agree. Piers didn't do a good job by having Zimmerman's brother on the show. Toure schooled Piers on it and Piers couldn't take the heat.
I think the conduct of Piers and Toure speak for themselves. It is clear that Piers is the true professional while Toure dug his own trench and clearly showed his bias, bigoted and one sided perspective of his narrow world.
I stopped watching CNN and especially Piers 'the brit" Morgan when they switched into RNN aka the Republican News Network. Piers shows his bias with every interview, caters to right-wingers, is uninformed most times and I wanted to throw-up with that lame, "have you ever been properly in love?" question. Why can't CNN I mean RNN find a competent actual journalist in the 6PM time slot? His ego is just too big for the job, so he should keep sucking up to his hero Donald Trump who may just hire him as his "best- brit boy."
Another network lost to the dirty, filthy money of the right-wing nuts. Shame!
And I tought , if anything, people would consider this the DNN networkm, not the RNN
hoping to get some feed-back
My God, will it take a Brit to restore the good name of American journalism and drive the pretenders back into the woods?
REALLY???? Toure know it all. Hopefully you know the meaning of your name since you have decided to play a racism card! Toure is one of the Americans who are rigid and live in the past. If we want reconciliation how are we going to get there if all we talk about is black and white and now British versus American? Toure you are an embassement to what you refer to as "DARK" Americans. You demand changes from other but you do not have to change yourself. Is that what you learning from school of journalism? I am convinced you are in a wrong career oh wait no, one of the white professor must have given you the wrong diploma since you are "black". This is how you sound.
Respectfully, Toure "dark" or "black" reference was to one of humor not race, hue or phenotype. Again a form of humor.
Toure used a time honored form of humor, black or gallows humor. Ironic and in the finest tradition of the blues "laughing to keep from crying". So if he says you're Zimmermaning me, its like being Emmett Tilled. Like me saying of the white guy who put a lit cigarette in my hoody in 1962, in Disneyland.... perhaps i resembled his favorite ashtray. Angela Davis, had it right about we need to look beyond these individuals, and look at the matrix if you will that makes such violence, regular and predictable.
Piers, I was astonished at the interview that I just saw between yourself and Toure'. I must say that usually he is a tempered, professional journalsit. To say the least, tonight was NOT one of those occasions. I kept wanting your producer to break to a commercial, or some urgent story cause a cut-away to something other than the utter plane wreck that I just was witness to. Regardless of your opinion on the Travon Martin matter, (unfortunately, it is not yet a case) Toure's unprofessional, rude, embarassing assault on you was uncalled for and I for one have lost a lot of respect for his journalistic ability based on tonights performance.
Please know that he is NOT the talking head for black america and that I am certain when he calms down and has an opportunity to review this interview he will have yet another reason to apologize.
On a brighter note, I absolutlely LOVE your show :) I think you're fair, funny, and smart. Keep up the good work!!
Please respect the dead. When you read back your message, his name is spelled, Trayvon. Toure is a real journalist! Piers looked no more than a whiney child uncomfortable and embarrassed by being told off by a passionate journalist with integrity and brains. Piers is an entertainment interviewer, nothing more. He should go to journalism school and study to learn about how to conduct a proper interview. Piers failed miserably. Never watch him again!
People like Toure, hurt Trayvon. Toure is more interested trying to sound intelligent. Didn't work!
Unbelieveable how the super left will even attack their own when they display the slightest bit of fairness and an objectivity towards a complicated and sad situation. Toures should be fired from whatever publication that would stoop low enough to hire him. Bravo piers for having the courage to display all sides of the Trayvon case without jumping to judgement before our judicial system can run its course. Finally Toures comments towards Piers were as prejudice as the come and he came off as a complete hypocrit and way too ignorant to be a reputable journalist.
Pers – great job! Toure sounds like the Rush Limbaugh" of black history. All mouth and no substance.
Touré simply isn't playing with a full deck. He's aggressive, insulting, condescending, judgmental, evasive, egocentric, and only interested in the sound of his own enormous sized horn. I thought Pierce did an excellent job in not taking the bait and falling to Touré's level.
There's an old saying-never wrestle with a pig because you'll both get dirty and only the pig will like it. Given this, Pierce remained quite clean!
You lovers of this man should at least learn how to spell his name, it's Piers. And I don't even like him.
Toure clearly spoke his mind and Piers couldn't handle that. BTW, his name is Piers not Pierce, ok. Toure needs to take over Piers show. He's the best, I'll be watching Toure from now on.
I wonder what Toure's response would be if asked whether he thought OJ SImpson was guilty of murdering his ex-wife and Mr. Goldman.
I think pierce morgan was horrible in is behavior and comments. Why are we getting more and more brits on our tube is unemplyment that bad over there, my suggestion is Perice go back to journalism school and back home where your arrogant behavior is more acceptable. Keep your racist commets to yourself
I was a little surprised at Toure. He knows full well that anger (and passive-aggression) is an emotional state that demands a reduction in the ability to reason, on the part of the person that experience it. It's a physiological neccessity. An angry person motivation is to make others afraid, or angry themselves. Both of those emotions (anger and fear) ,demands a reduction in the ability to reason. Piers options were to become afraid, or be "more angry" than Toure. The latter would force Toure to be afraid. Again, neither of those emotions are ones where a person is capable of reasoning very well.
Piers wants to teach Toure how to be a professional journalist? Does that include how to wiretap celebrity phones? Even the guy on CNN at 5:00 had the courage to challenge Zimmermans brother when he said the whole thing could have been avoided if someone had come out to help during the scuffle. What bull***. The whole thing could have been avoided if George Zimmerman had not taken it upon himself to stalk Trayvon Martin and followed the 911 dispatchers orders to stop following him! Always blame someone else! I cannot stand rude journalists and that is why I won't listen to Nancy Grace and I won't watch Piers again either. If you invite a guest into your home, you don't insult them just because they don't agree with you.
Wow, Piers that was awesome. Thank you for defending yourself, and calling out Torre's absolutely IRRESPONSIBLE comments.
WOW, Toure you're amazing. Thanks for putting Piers pompous english a.. in his place. Don't be a racist and be embarrassed that a black man is smarter, wiser and has more journalistic integrity than Piers Morgan. Piers is just another english export that need not be taken seriously.
Piers Morgan is a wonderful interviewer and journalist. This Toure guy is exactly what he is accusing Piers of being; unprofessional. As an interviewer Piers has truly caught the true "American" demeanor and feel for most situations. After all, these traits aren't that different from the British perspective in any case. Toure impresses me as a very prejudiced, unprofessional dilettante, and a bully as well.
Piers, I think you did the right thing in allowing the Zimmerman family to express their side of the story as a part of professional and balanced reporting. Toure was completely out of line with his display of disrespectful conduct while participating in your show and his attack of your journalistic skills was pitiful to say the least. While I'm not partial to either side of the story, I do appreciate the forum you provide to hear what each side has to say. After hearing Toure's criticism of your actions, it makes one wonder if he has his own agenda to promote, relying on shock value and belligerence to achieve it. He obviously has his own definition of what a good journalist should be...which I, and hopefully, many other of your viewers will disagree with. I'm glad you stood your ground in defending your journalistic freedom.
I just saw the interview and Toure split Piers a new one. Clearly I agree with Toure and it is about time someone called Piers on his interview skills. CNN either need to allow Piers do his fluffy interview or get someone else who can handle in depth interviews....Toure good for you for making the media world accountable.
I totally agree with you! Although we are outnumbered, the truth hurts and Toure' gave Piers the truth. Of course many who want to hide from racism are upset and angered that Toure' pushed the evelope with Piers...it needed to not only be pushed, but opened and expose...Racism has always been a taboo subject in America...If you are going to live here in America, then you need to expose the ugliness from discrimination, racism and racial profiling!
Piers let me start by saying I'm a big fan of your show. Let me also say I don't always agree with your point of view but this is not one of those times. I personally think this Toure idiot is exactly that. You are one of the most professional journalists in modern times and he came off sounding like an immature little boy. Keep up the good work we love you here in Canada. P.S. going to miss you on AGT
dooes it matter to you that a young innocent kid was killed for no reason or is it that important to get a story with folks who were not even at the scene, oh i forgot your white and the kid was black! explains it all!
Toure is what's nuts are made of. He needs to get a life and help for his temper. Hope Toure does not represent any African family or rather any family. He is a no brainier and no reporter.
I am so glad you interview the other side of the family. It is important to ask what millions of people would want to know and ask. This guy is only trying to get ratings. I am a black woman who thing you asked all the right questions, because it puts more encise on things. I think you drilled zimmerman brother. Keep doing what you do. You are a excellent reporter.
Great interview, Mr. Morgan
One question that still needs to be asked (imho). Why did Geroge Z, carry a gun if he was on the way to Target to run an errand. Living in a country with very restrictve gun laws (and that's a good thing) I am trying to understand why ahybody carries a concealed weapon when going shopping....
Piers I am proud on the way you responded to Toure. You were very professional and he was not. Good job...
I am from Suriname ( South-America ) and I have followed the case of Trayvon a little. I have direct TV. I find it really disguisting how this Toure is speaking. How he knows everything and you dont. A really arrogant guy. I ask myself why you did not ask him the following question : Would he also react this way and spend so many time if Trayvon was a white or hispanic guy?
He speaks of racism but he himself is a racist in a way by saying that you are from England , so you dont know the facts and you dont feel it. Yes NONSENSE.
These guys especially MS-NBC and NBC distort all the facts . I hope that you stay objective and let the court ( law ) do its job. Please also talk about the bounty that is put on Zimmerman. Is that permitted??? Where is Eric Holder??? Where is president Obama???
You simply don't understand as to what Toure was trying to say. The problem is with America's Justice System and laws; regrettably, they do not protect African-Americans. In fact, the history of America shows that African-Americans have been targeted by just the color of their skin. No matter what color, race, and/or culture someone is: if your child no matter what age was shot and killed the way that Trayvon Matin was murdered: you and everyone else would want to know what happen. Thank God in Trayvon's Case, there was 911 tapes and witnesses, for too many African-Americans are killed in this country; and the Justice System fails to bring their killers to justice. Zimmerman, should have been arrested period, based on all the evidence which shows clearly what was up. I am an Muti-Racial African American woman who weighs 128 lbs, and if George Zimmerman should have stalked me like he did Trayvon Martin (remember, he was not an officer of the law and did not identify himself). I would have stood my ground and fought George Zimmerman, but he would of shot me too...just for being black and trying to defend myself..
I'm sure i'm outnumbered here, but I'm sorry Piers, I happen to agree with Toure'. You should have pushed Robert Zimmerman, George Zimmerman's brother, harder. It made me and other very uncomfortable that young man was able to come and tell what he "Thinks" happen to his brother w/o ever seeing evidence that Trayvon Martin actually beat Zimmerman up like that. Zimmerman's story is one thing, but he video tape, well,,,, that's another! If the video isn't lying, who is?
Yes, you're correct. If Piers was a good journalist, he would ask the necessary questions to trap Robert Zimmerman into delving deeper in about his brothers past. Piers, simply isn't a good enough journalist. Frankly, he and his producers just had on Robert Zimmerman for ratings. They don't truly care about the Trayvon case or they would have contributed something good for it.
I feelthat toure is the most obnoxious black man i have heard i would not have had him on my show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ask him how many black men have shot a white man for no reason The slave error is over and has been for over 100 years. Let get on with our life and notaccuse anyone until the trialand the facts of this!!!!!!situation is announced. This talk of racisim iskilling me to where I wont to throw up. this is 2012 we do He certainly does not come off as a speaker for the Black racenot think of racisim until someone like toure talks Good for you to stand up to him. Where ever he works should fire him
responce to my comment
I think I can understand both sides. It was pretty raw, but it was genuine.
I don't think it is always appropriate to be 'civil' or 'professional'.
I think you both should alot of courage and restraint, and humanity, given the situation.
I missed the beginning of the show and had to look up Toure on line to see who he is...."a cultural critic"?? What I appreciate about Piers and his refreshing British self (!) is his objectivity, professionalism, willingness to have both sides of a situation represented, ability to listen and interact effectiively – all without "picking a side" before the facts are known. Whatever is true or untrue about what Robert Zimmerman discussed with Piers, Zimmerman was very articulate and deserved to be heard. In contrast to both Mr. Zimmerman and Mr. Morgan, Toure acted in a rude, disrespectful and unprofessional manner. Much will be revealed after medical records for George Zimmerman are released. For now, I perhaps the effort and time of people may be better spent in repealing or changing the law that has allowed the situation to occur. And I hope the "weight of American history" is not a factor in what needs to be an objective review of known facts in this specific occurance.
Piers I have been a fan since your show began but you really impressed as a complete professional tonight . I admired your restraint while you let this Toure person make a total jerk of himself. His sincerity is what I'm doubting right now and I see him as being confrontational and it seemed more about him making a name for himself and trying to pick a fight rather than focus on Trayvon and justice for him. This tragedy could be the gateway to an opening of minds and hearts and people all over the world are watching to see if we are who we say we are as a country. I believe every race and all people across the nation are looking for justice for this young man and have looked into Trayvon's eyes and seen our children there. Just a kid walking to the store. We need to start looking to each other with respect and love in our heart for our fellow human beings. We need to stop hating. Leave room in your heart for the love God wants us to have for each other. Trayvons was denied a chance to live his life. Let us make his name a healing word.
You are wimp Pier Morgan along with CNN. You could call out your guest tonight but last night with Zimmerman's brother you handled and swooned over him and let him flat out lie and did not ask any tough questions or cross question him at all.
I was delighted to see someone put you in your place!!! I am a white Canadian woman just for the record. Learn how to do your job that you are over paid to do! CNN always says no BIAS but that is crap! Get some facts about your guests before you do interviews. You should of questioned Zimmerman's brother about not having any contact with him for years and where did he get his facts of how it happened. Look at the video and listen to 911 tapes! I realize there is more to this than just dirty cops covering up facts and no doing their job but come do yours and get the facts straight and out there! Stop being bias and a wimp!
piers, i am a black british woman, and i watch you everyday from good old england. you do a fantastic job, and the interview with zimmerman brother, was fascinating you pressed really hard on the questions and we even got new information, who is toure to refer to your nationality, what prejudice, you are not the prosecuter of zimmerman, i loved the way you covered the whitney story, as we say back here, you gave toure enough rope to hang himself.
May be toure wants you to be loud like the american way but that is not our way,you are a fab journalist, toure has noo right to tell you, you dont know how things work "there" clearly you do, thats why you have a show....Toure is too angry, he shouldnt carry all the burdens that society place on black men.
Toure, al sharpton, his side kick jesse and the cowgirl from congress, make it hard for to focus on the situation.
this shouldnt be about race, im black british of kenyan descent, my anger is that a young boy is dead, not his colour, two white british men were murdered in florida, the killer was a black teenager, and im glad he got life, death would be appropriate because he showed them no mercy. its about a young life lost, not COLOUR, although clearly some in law enforcement didnt put much value on a black life counting for much.
piers just wondered, is it normal for the AG and chief of police to come into the police station at night.....
why didnt they wait till morning......
Great job piers, we miss you in england...
I think you both showed courage and restraint, and humanity, given the situation.
As an African American male, I have never been more embarrassed about another African American male presuming to speak on behalf of all of us and about our shared experienced as a people. Toure, unfortunately, fuels the unwanted bigotry and hatred we see spreading with ever greater intensity behind the unfortunate and devastating experience of the loss of young Trayvon Martin. While, Toure's point regarding the unfair treatment of our people in this country is true, his personal attack on Piers was unfair, uncalled, for offensive. The fact that Piers, allowed him to have even more than a 5 minute say on his show, even after he spewed his poisonous hatred truly showed the kind of journalist Piers Morgan is, classy. Toure, you have vilified the wrong person and you have created a distraction from the real issue at hand, shame on you man. You have, in effect, used the death of Trayvon Martin and the pain we all feel for his family, for your own personal agenda, to discredit Piers Morgan. YOU have also continued to propagate the view that many already have of African Americans as angry, high-strung, out of control with hatred for the white man, and always seeing ourselves as the victims. Please, don't ever speak for me or my people again, until you can learn THAT IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT YOU. Great job Piers, thank you for being fair and OBJECTIVE.
Awesome response William! America needs more gentlemen like you.
Piers brought both sides of a very serious situation for us to digest and respectfully allowed his audience to be the judge. I sincerely regret this encounter turned out to be so ugly. Toure was excessively harsh and out rightly personalized the matter...it is important to remain objective when temperatures are this high.
Well I'm a Plutonian and had to leave Pluto because it is too small and I kept falling off so now I am in America and I am amazed how many African Americans support Morgan by first identifying their heritage. Wow! America has come a long way.
Unfortunately, whether we want to admit it or Plutonian, race is the issue Toure brought up here, not what celestial body one hails from, maybe that's why you missed the point, you're not an earthling (lol). With that being said, identifying myself as an African American speaks to the fact that Toure felt he was obligated to speak for all of us, and that's not true. Identifying my race served that purpose and that purpose alone.
This shouting match was embarrassing both ways; all ways
We watched two 'grown' men hash out their egos, that's all.
I bet you all love Rupert Murdoch too. PM is a fake and I miss Larry King.
PIERS MORGAN JUST GOT THE BEATDOWN OF A LIFETIME ON AIR! BEST PART: WE OVER @ MSNBC HAVE BEEN LAUGHING AT YOU. LAUGHING AT YOU!!!
Looks like some people think journalism is about the journalist's job is to force his personal views on others and suppress information to make his case. Professional and responsible journalism is to dig for the facts and present all the findings for the viewer to make an educated decision form all sources. Excellent job Pierce! Don't let others bully you, which seems to be the American way!
Great job Piers!! Toure is a nobody, never heard of him. We all need the facts before convicting someone. Toure has already found Zimmerman guilty , I guess toure was there when it all happen, Toure needs to find another career
I wrote a whole book. It didn't happen. Piers, I am the American Male! Write me if you feel appropriate. Who is "Toure". Thank you for your professionalism. Angry that anyone can see this unfortunate situation. WM/46/USA Veteran /Police Dispatcher / Executive/ Disabled.
I'm sorry, but toure is right. Last night I felt the same way, I couldn't watch it the first time. Watched it the second time. I just wish they would've had the conversation at a later date, just the two of them. That interview really hurt because, I knew hateful things would be said by his family member. Let them and false spin go on FOUX NEWS. I felt it was a real insensitive interview for right now. I'm also Black, 48yrs. old, and the Mom of a 24 yr. young man whom I worry about everything he leaves the hse. Remember, his Father accused the Pres. of spreading hate w/comment, to which we know he did no such thing. So, for some of us , this was a hard interview to see.
U RIGHT TRINA. TOURE FKED PIERS UP 2NITE! PIERS SHOULD'VE COME CORRECT. HE GOT A SEVERE BEATDOWN ON HIS OWN SHOW! LOL!
Want to add my voice to the many people who were shocked and offended by Toure throughout this interview with Piers. Toure comes across as extremely defensive, appears to have a huge chip on his shoulder, and obviously is irked by an intellegent approach to unresolved questions. He's self-righteous, and I would ask him the personal source of that (which has nothing to do with the case at hand or the state of America or anything else. He attacked Piers and was quite abusive, I thought. He doesn't realize how that type of energy feeds into the problem and actually expands the problem. Piers handled it very well.
Yes, Toure was defensive and rightly so. Apparently he and Piers had been trading barbs on Tweeter for a few days now and there was a basic difference of opinion and taunting going on. That said, Toure was right that Piers does not know enough about the depth of anger or pain involved
TOURE is one of the few journalist who is INSISTING that the truth of this Tragedy be told. NO, Piers didn't challenge the brother enough for the truth...the video that shows George is quite conclusive, as to his injuries. This is another example of how America views People of color. Even to the extent that Zimmerman's ethnicity as a Hispanic ( white) is being ignored. The problem here is that had this been a person of color who had done the stalking and shooting ANYWHERE in this country ( even without that ridiculous FL. Law) we would NOT be having this conversation...The shooter would be in jail and America would have him/ her guilty in the court of public opinion. The question that I would LOVE asked and answered...IF THIS HAD BEEN A WHITE, HISPANIC, INDIAN OR CHINESE youth with the same clothes ( specifically a hoodi, since most youth TRAYVON's age wear them). Would the events and outcome have been the same? African Americans are TIRED, we are TIRED of being targeted, hunted, ostracized, blamed, persecuted and annihilated by other nationalities in AMERICA AND ABROAD. We are TIRED of not being at ease in OUR HOME...THE AMEICAN FABRIC IS TAINED WITH OUR BLOOD AND SWEAT TOO....THIS MAY BE THE BEGINNING OF A MOVEMENT THAT AMERICA CANNOT IGNORE...BECAUSE IT IS NOT JUST US...ITS ALL RACES WHO CAN SEE THE INJUSTICE WE LIVE UNDER IN THIS LAND.
can you share/post the link to the police logs? No one has been able to show the times that you just reported. thank you
Job well done!!! Only a few "journalist" are keeping their comment neutral on this horrid story. HLN is the worst tho. Vinnie, Nancy and all the other "journalist" have this man tired, convicted and to the chair already and are causing more and more tension between the races. This is a horrid story and a child was killed. Now we have famous people tweeting incorrect addresses out to millions? WHY? Did he want his millions fans to go take him a get well card? A prayers card? or send him flowers? I don't understand why "journalist" keep taking sides. When I was young the anchors reported the news and didn't takes sides and incite more outrage. This was clear with the Casey Anthony story and is very clear with this one too. Im glad you exposed this non "journalist" He has a clear side to this and should not be reporting any news what so ever...
Peace to all
piece i am so sorry for what took place this evening. It was awful. I give you credit for not asking Himm to leave.(I was wishing He would) Check yesterdays comments on Robert Zimmerman for other comments on this. We started posting before this blog was posted...You can hold your head High, Toure surly can not...
Piers, please try to remain calm as you instructed Toure (who didn't appear to be overly excited to me). What's happening isn't new to us. maybe this will help you to better feel the depth of the situation as we Black Americans do:
That Justice is a blind goddess
Is a thing to which we black are wise:
Her bandage hides two festering sores
That once perhaps were eyes.
you got your head handed to you. LOL
Toure, showed how racist and blinded he is by his hatred.
Touche' !....as well as how immature Tour'e showed himself to be.
Toure want to work in journalism? Then please do grow up.
Piers handled himself with dignity and as a professional.
Piers – Why did you ask Toures if believed that Zimmerman shot Treyvon? Everyone knows that he shot the teen and all the evidence so far shows that the Zimmermans are lying. MSNBC is doing a lot better job in covering this story and analyzing the stories of George's father, brother, and so-called friend, Oliver. It was stated earlier this evening that the brother has actually not spoken to George in years, not even since the incident. Last night, MSNBC showed a timeline of events from the time the friend was on the phone with Treyvon to the time when Zimmerman was getting out of the police car. The total time span was approximately 35 minutes. The police arrived at the scene at 7:17 PM and arrived at the police department with Zimmerman around 7:51 PM. The ride to the police department was approximately 20 minutes so that would have left 10 minutes for paramedics to take care of a broken nose and a head wound, and for police to question Zimmerman. There's no way that could have taken place . . . and where's the bandages in the surveillance video? There's not any because Zimmerman lied. I'll be so glad when he's arrested and charged!
Poor, poor, poor Toure' ...he desperately needs HELP, maybe- anger management? Can somebody help this young man who is seconds away from loosing his noodle?
Journalism is about presenting and listening to all different viewpoints. We enjoy Piers' show often because oh his guests' diverse opinions and Piers' articulate inquiries. After 20 years of practicing law, it is clear to me that only a jury may ultimately get to decide whether George Zimmerman is criminally liable for a violation of Florida law in this case. We have a responsibility as citizens to examine what this horrible tragedy means for our country and communities so that we can learn and evolve. This evening "Toure" did nothing to advance a respectful or productive dialogue. His display was arrogant, discourteous, and vulgar. If he appears on screen again in my home, I will hit the "off" button.
Toure gave Pierce a journalism 101 lesson tonight. Yes Pierce is good at times but on this particular case his coverage is amateurish. Toure said what had to be said. Its about time some one did
Mr. Morgan, as a middle age black man who is proud of his African-American heritage, I want you to know how proud I am of the manner in which you conducted yourself during the verbal exchange with Toure`. I don't believe a person has to be an American nor a citizen of this country for any lenght of time to understand in an intelligent way, the plight of the people who have endured trauma, prejudice and bigotry at the hands of the powerful. Just as I don't believe one has to have lived in the time of Jesus to believe in his teachings and become a Christian. I believe by allowing him freedom to spout such nonsense, was genuis and exposed him for the fraud and incompetent journalist he claims to be. Personally, I would have ended the conversation a long time ago by cutting sound to his microphone. Bravo to you sir. Keep speaking and searching for truth! In the end, Truth always rises to the top.
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
– Mahatma Gandhi -
George, I'm native american, christian and feel the same as you on this.
Levi Mcfadden, in my travels and living in various places in America among all types of people I've met people who don't reach beyond their comfort zones and those who have intuitive understanding as well as a passion to learn. Mr. Morgan wasn't born yesterday. He's a citizen of the world. I appreciate the CNN's talented journalists.
Toure' immature attacks on Mr. Morgan made me cringe in shame for Americans. Is HE the product of our educational system? I'm going to google him and see where he came from.
My dear man, Piers. You appear to have suffered a verbal assault the likes no British man has seen since the Revolutionary War! Are you ok? Should I send a medic?
I concur, Sir Rodney. Piers got beat down USA style!!!! God Bless America
Yes, please send him a medic and fast, he is dying a slow demise over here.
Toure does have a point and a very serious one. Given the serious nature of the recent events I would of hope that CNN would of given serious thought to whether it would be wise to give Mr. Zimmerman's brother airtime on CNN. Why? Because of what Americans are starting to witness from some on the far right which MSNBC's Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough criticized this morning on his show, which is Irrational thinking coming from Zimmerman supporters on the far right. Given that CNN should have had prior knowledge of some of the right wing push back, a more vigorous questioning of what Zimmerman's brother would of been in order. I watch the show and Mr. Morgan did question some of the statements that Mr. Zimmerman's brother made but he did not follow through like most serious journalist would have. When you have citizens willing to believe anything, it doesn't mean that you should feed them anything. It like the big Sarah Palin lie about death panels. Just because she said it doesn't mean CNN should be the source that the lie flows through. If you interview her you have a responsibility to challenge her not with a wink and a smile but with a seriousness as serious as the lie that she decided to told. Why? Because as a journalist you have a responsibility to your viewers,. unlike FOX news which appears not doesn't care whether their viewers are being fed half truths or lies.
Sorry, Toure vs Piers...I take no sides. However, I do not watch Piers Morgan...very uninteresting show. He does use a "dog whistle" approach at times, he thinks it is not audible...but all his "watchers" can have their own opinion. BTW...I listened because I wanted to see Soledad.
Toure was very rude, disrespectful, and brash wjen he was on piers morgan show 2nite and he also used RACIAL slurs about pierce's not understanding americans and referring to him as.going bk to england what dose that say ? I really hope yoir parent's didn't raise you that way when I see you I see that snare of a antagonist
As an African American, I disagree with Toure regarding your interview of Robert Zimmerman. While I, too, believe that George Zimmerman is guilty, I appreciate your professionalism and style of interviewing. The fact that you allowed Robert to express himself without lambasting him (as Toure would have had you do) made Robert comfortable to the point of saying things that really made him appear even more unreliable than if you were more harsh with him. I believe that challenging Robert more than you did would not have produced the effect that Toure thinks it would have. I think you handled things appropriately and quite well!
As a white american I'm so proud of Toure for speaking up for ALL AMERICANS! Toure is a shining example of the best journalist in the USA. Piers is nothing more than a 3rd rate celebrity interviewer. Toure, PLEASE TAKE OVER PIERS SHOW! PLEASE!!!! WE NEED MORE SMART AMERICANS ON TV LIKE YOU TOURE!
I think Piers is a true "twit" in the finest sense of the word. I think Toure' is right that Piers is not familiar enough with the history of race relations in this country especially from a black perspective to understand how this whole debacle has been a slap in the face of blacks. I Piers needs to ask if Zimmerman had shot a white upper class white boy how would the result be different. What if Zimmerman had been black and Trevon a hispanic? If this had happened in various other parts of the country how would that have affected the outcome. Piers is a definately a true human rights advocate and justice for all "limey" but i don't think he gets the strong racial undercurrents at play the way this episode has played out.
Piers, you conducted an objective interview and that's what made Toure angry. He is a bully.
STOP BEING BUTTHURT ON TWITTER ABOUT GETTING TRASHED ON YOUR OWN SHOW BY TOURE, PIERS! YOU GOT PWNED! CASE CLOSED! GO BACK TO MERRY ENGLAND YOU CAD!
While Toure was no doubt over the top, and his playing the Freedom Rider card was a bit of a low blow – your attacks on him were largely unwarranted. Accusing him of not being professional was unnecessary and your hurling around "fatuous" was defensive and undignified. The TRUTH in Toure's comments are not what he can PROVE but in what he BELIEVES, that Millions of Americans of all colors UNDERSTAND. Even when the evidence is preponderant, yet another Family of color must wait until it is exhaustively confirmed by law enforcement who have already proven their prejudice. When white folk experience this, our history is understanding is short, our actual experience is limited. But many of us have come to understand that the PAIN of our black brothers and sisters goes back BEFORE slavery. And that PAIN is earned again every time this kind of ugly incident resonates for over 150 years.
Another way to see this is that some Americans tell their children the stories of slavery, the Civil War, Tuskegee,
the Second World War, the Civil Rights Era, the Birmingham Bombings and more recently James Craig Anderson and more and more and more. And then they have to answer their children's questions. As their parents have done, and as their children will do, their history of continual loss, continual injustice. True, many of us have the LUXURY of telling these same stories to our children- but we are at a distance, only rarely are our sons imprisoned or our families destroyed.
Piers, get a grip. You will be a better reporter if you can be more open about these issues. We will never be Black, but we will learn that some questions intended as objective carry a history with them that is all and only be and can only about PAIN.
Wow an anomaly. A thinker and seeker. You do get it.
It took a while for me, as a Black American, to read through the over the top Freedom Rider comment to get to the text of what you were sharing. Once I was able to get through the comment I was able to achieve an understanding:
"one man's gorilla is another man's guerrilla."
Thank you. I hope Mr. Morgan gets it.
Wow, I have nothing against Toure, but I feel embarrassed for him after this interview. Piers Morgan came out as the professional one, and it's clear from his interview with Zimmerman's brother that he did not shy away from challenging him.
I would like to say that Wolf really P.M.O the other night. He made a comment cutting off a black news reporter saying " we would not want this to happen to any child, not just black." It made me upset because like I said earlier, this whole siruation would not have happened if he were not black, Deep down inside, Zimmerman knows he is wrong and so does God. Sorry for any typos. Need a pc...
I think Toure was right ....he spoke the truth and that is why Piers Morgan got so mad...I don't think not only can Piers Morgan understand...British or not...I don't think any of us white folks can understand....the bottom line how long has it been and we still don't have answers...let me tell you if I got on the highway and did 70 mph I would have gotten more attention from the cops...if that kid shot Zimmerman we would have gotten more answers.
No smart educated person agrees with toure's non-sense. Perhaps he would be less hostile living in a country that considered EVERY man guilty until PROVEN innocent. The way I see it Piers is the more patriotic American for respecting our judicial system. please don't give this unwise, unfortunate, Toure' a platform ever again.
I have two graduate degrees and I agree with Toure completely. I assure you I am much more educated than you are. and I bet if you were to survey the average PhD, many would agree. To reveal the prejudice in this incident, one only needs to reverse the situation: If a black man followed a white kid and ended up shooting him, there is absolutely no way that that black man would not be going to jail. But lets imagine he was freed for self-defense. Do you think the Peirs Morgan would have been as forgiving talking to his brother?
I guess 2 graduate degrees must prove you are right and most others are wrong. BTW it's Piers, not Peirs
But he wasn't forgiving! He didn't buy any of his convenient lies and neither did I. I don't understand why people are treating Piers as if he's a Zimmerman defender when he's not. I thought Tour'e needs to go to Fox News and get angry there. CNN has done everything they can to give this case a voice.
Peir Morgan, I am whatching you talking to Toure who says you did not fight back hard enough when interveiwing Zimmemans brother.
I like leaving people to have their say without pushing them to much, I feel that it encourages them to talk with more freedom, to lie with more freedom or express themselves truthfully with more freedom and that in the end allows me to know more about them but I am willing to talk to people often and for hours and expect to get to the truth some three years later, a situation not everyone can enjoy. However i have meet people who get cross with this way of behaving as Toure does with you and the problem seems to be that if you are not fast to proclaim your own principles, then you might be confused with a unprincipled person yourself and so they have learnt to be fast expressing their disaproval or they feel that you should be impressing principles on others not listening to them. It is not so much that you did not force information out of him that gets people who always expect other to attack those they interview with fervour, as that you did not learn them when they felt it was time to give them a lesson, though Toure pretends it was that you should have pumped the information out of him. As to pumping information i would disagree that being very challening is what allows you to know people but it seems that the sort of people who think you should be very quick to tell others were to get off come to think that doing so is an interrogation technique.
People arent just whatever humor they are said to have, it is not htat htat humor is part of their make up, in this case that the english are phlegmatic, they are brought up to be that way, arguements are used by parents and such, to persuade them of the benefits of being dispassionante and of the dangers of being to hasty and coming to an unfair conclusion, of the worth of letting everyone have their say while th emore billious believe that there is never any time like now to tell a spade he is a spade.
I found it interesting that Zimmerman should talk as he did, I thought, " am I whatching a man go a really long way in lying to defend their brother, or has his brother, scared stiff by what he has just done made up a whopper and broken his own nose or is this may be all true. It will be very interesting if it turns out that Zimmermans brother was lying because it is always interesting to know what faces people put on while they pull the wool over your eyes.
I love whatching people talk as they do if allowed to talk and waiting to see, but maybe, if there is a court case impending and the brother of zimmerman allowed to lie in public, he will cause a great impression on people who believe him and it is better not to let him lie so it could lead justice astray. On the other hand this interveiw brought out the interesting reply of the woman who is if i remember right defending Treyvon Martin who said that as long as he does not say he spoke to his brother he can say what he wants as he will never be put in the witness box.
There is the possiblility that you shout him down in the interveiw, possibility the impassioned Toure wanted and then again if you let him gable on without scaring him to much, you provide and open feild for others to pull him to peices afterwards, which is one clever way of going about things. I have often wondered if interveiwers on CNN did not let people talk so as to get information they and others on the news channel, could work on at another time. Anyway it is not true to say that American journalists are always feirce interveiwers, they are often desperately soft. rose macaskie madrid.
Piers did his best with Zimmerman's brother and not being aggressive with him was even a good tactic to say the least because Zimmermans seems to be weakening their defense with multiple versions of the story.
Emotion seems to be running out of control. I could understand where all of these are coming from. Nonetheless, I think Toure was being harsh on Piers tonight. It is true that Piers is a foreigner here but that doesn't mean he did not understand the plight of black people or not qualified to talk about it. I would have preferred both of them showing a level of civility as opposed to personal attacks on who is more professional. The least we want is this tragedy turning into a personality clash of some sort. I have a lot of respect for both Toure and Piers. I hope they continue to be civil towards one another.
This story very well may define this decade. With racisim running rampant because of our president's color, frank discussions and HARD discussions are what's needed. Morgan failed in his interview with Zimmerman's brother by trying to be polite. Polite does not cut it in this story. This a a HUGE defining moment for us as a society and it calls into question all sorts of things regarding laws, law enforcement and our justice system. Zimmerman's brother was making claims NOT supported by facts and he SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THEM. That is Entertainment Tonight journalism, NOT what this story requires. Morgan failed miserably in every way both last night and tonight and he should be replaced.
You see how you handled the American novelist and cultural critic Touré
You didn't get emotional
You didn't accuse..
You did not call him names
but of course sometimes let him see his own judgments
As a Jr. Journalist
of course he is right for the pain Blacks feel. I appreciate it.
Now you are having movies about Bullying.
I truly think, the problem is with the drugs,
And every young people running with around with miss understanding the confrontation & standing up for self
If you look around, you see too many parents thinking they are giving their children love but kicking them out at early age, bullying the poor kids when they cannot carry their responsibilities.
It all comes from home. Parents have to respect the children. They have to talk with them with love & understanding.. Not threats, or prejudice..
I think this Toure guy is really not a professional journalist as he claimed. Would he have done better after he has convicted a suspect without trial? I am thrilled with his arrogance and choice of words making it feel that only American journalist are competent of airing the ongoing Trayvon Martin case, making less great journalist – Peirs Morgan, because he's British. Toure, I think you blew it. Also, are you representing MSNBC or yourself? I see you are asking Piers to Push, push for what? It is very clear that there is no connection in the statements made by any of the Zimmerman's family or his brother. Nonetheless, they have the right to band together and say what they feel is right to defend their brother but they have no power to sweep justice under the carpet. All we (the entire Americans) are asking for is justice to be served and a means to halt a repeat killing of another innocent soul, either white, black, or hispanic. So please Mr Toure, Americans are better viewers than what you are trying to sell to them.
Toure has never worked as a journalist. He's a commentator who gives is opinion. Piers, on the other hand, is an objective journalist who keeps his emotions out of his interviews. The media has whipped people into a frenzy to distract everybody from the lack of jobs. Zimmerman is becoming a scapegoat for all of the problems of black America.
Your comment "Zimmerman is becoming a "scapegoat" for all of the problems of black America". As an African-American Woman; I don't consider George Zimmerman as a "SCAPEGOAT"T...he is an example of a cold blooded murderer. What African-American's don't like; is simply being stereo-typed saying one size fits all. We have diverse opinions however, when African-Americans have concerns and/or we voice our opinions; we are label angry, unprofessional and/or emotional. However, people like yourself who are not African-American; you consider your judgments and opinions as professional, insightful, pleasant, etc... Wake up and smell the coffee; for the aroma I'm getting from most of these comments about Trayvon Martin and Toure on here; is what racism is all about. Look in the mirror…and reflection and tone of your essence needs a reality check!!!!
DeLin just got it right. Susan, you have big problems. Seek help, seriously. Otherwise, you're going to cause more people closer to you real pain. Your thinking is about as scary as it gets.
I am a 37 year old black female and I wanted to jump through the screen and yank Toure off the show. He was an embarrassment. Why did he keep saying Morgan "allowed" Zimmerman's brother to say certain things. What the hell was he supposed to do, he's a JOURNALIST. He's supposed to let all parties speak their side no matter how ridiculous it may sound. And if Toure had an ounce of sense, he may have been able to figure out that by Morgan "allow"ing the brother to go on on, made the family's side of the story look ridiculous. Kinda of like how at one point Morgan let Toure talk for a good minute so America could see how asanine he sounds. He "allowed" that. And attacking Morgans lack of knowledge or compassion and saying "that's not how we do it in America" was beyond moronic. How do we do it in America Toure? How would you have interviewed the brother? What thought provoking and deep "rooted" questions would you have posed? Again, you're an embarrassment to journalists, blacks and human beings everywhere.
Toure is no more embarrassing than you are, "Nina Brown". To defend Piers' terrible performance and his ego, and turn against the harsh truth that Toure spoke, is an embarrassment to yourself and everyone else.
To James M. i would like to call Toure unprofessional because he clearly is.
He may have been unprofessional, but he told the truth.
Caring about giving a full spectrum of information about what happened, while being sensative to all involved, is good journalism. It's not British or American.
Touré is disrespectful to the memory of this child. He is using this terrible event to promote himself. That does not seem to be very American.
Thank you for the professoinal and honest opinions that you have expressed on your show . You put Toure's in his place . Unfortunatley preduce works the same from both sides. His accusations of you not living in the US long enough to have a position are unfounded. Everyone in this world has looked to the USA for inspiration and equitty for all . Many have tried to follow their example . Your report on this matter was objective and impartial. Alot of American reporting has become a matter of sensationalizm and showmanship. You have shown that objective reporting still has a place in American reporting. Whether you allways lived or you moved there yeststerday you still get a say . Keep up the GOOD WORK. and your welcome in Canada any time.
Toure' exemplified all that is wrong with the current state of American journalism. When did we devolve into a culture that requires rudeness, interruption, and agitation to express opposing views in the media? He could be spot on with all his observations and opinions but his method of presenting his viewpoint smacks of "confrontation for the sake of entertainment". Kudos to Piers for handling him as well as he did. I probably would have lost control after about 45 seconds!
Toure was not being emotional...it is called BEing in the state of TRUTH...Jounalist have always put their "SPIN" on stories and news lines... Toure was not being hostile...for what happen to Trayvon Martin should have NEVER happen to any teen no matter the the hue of their skin. The problem???? America continues to not face the truth about the injustices and racism that court our systems when it comes to getting to the truth about wrongful deaths of African-American black males in this country.
I could hardly sit still as Piers was totally disrespected by this classless moron, Toure. Why would such a personal attack be aired? Toure needs to realize that a true professional journalist doesn't treat a guest (Zimmerman's brother) as if he is a witness in court being cross-examined. There's a difference between being interviewed and being cross examined like a hostile witness. Piers has no obligation to shoulder any anger we may or may not have as (black/African) Americans. Toure was low to continuously make reference to Piers being from another country. What the hell does that have to do with any of this? Perhaps Toure has caused himself to be crossed off future guest appearances.
Toure was asked to come on Piers Morgan's show for RATINGS! Are you even asking such a question? He wanted people to be talking about his show. HELLO? He is a tabloid journalist or commentator, former editor of Rupert Murdock's News of the World newspaper. So, his attempts to get ratings shouldn't surprise anyone and by the way, he's no more professional than MOST of the other media personalities. Most are tabloid commentators. They are not real journalists like Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams.
Piers, I withheld an immediate responce so that I could go back and review your interview with Robert Zimmerman. It is my opinion that you piers'd every aspect of this young mans responce, defences, deceptions, etc. without being judgemental. I generally only watch your show based on who you are interviewing (if I am a fan of the person). However, this interview taught me what a true journalist is. It is definitely not trying and judging a man to gain personal notariety. As an African American man I must admit that I was initially biased against George Z, but am now more inclined to side with the justice system in the hopes that the truth is vigorously pursued and justiced fairly rendered. Now, it is extremely unfortunate that Toure chose to publicly render a verdit based on emotion and not the facts, as they are discovered by investigation. How that affects Toure's career and personal life will be what he invited. Sad. Anyway, Robert Z was a pretty intelligent defender of his brother, but you did question him at every point, by what is known and did not condem him upon profoundly obvious inaccurate statements. I think that I will perhaps watch you more often from now on. Oh, by the way, for Toure to say that you should go back to Brittain is as racially biased as anyone could be.
Do you actually believe that ALL African-Americans will get "JUSTICE" in America??? I'm an African-American woman and was born and raised in America, and from what I've seen thus far; African-Americans are not afforded the same rights and protection under the laws here. Therefore, I am so happy that Trayvon's murder has come to the attention and light of the American people; for if it hadn't, Trayvon's Murder would have been left behind; hidden in the shadows without ANY JUSTICE...added to all the hundreds of black males who have been wrongfully murdered in this country...
Piers,I could not believe my ears when I heard Toure speaking to you tonight. Shame on him. He was not respectful or professional. I can appreciate that he was passionate but he could have voiced his point of view without disrespect or name calling. I am proud of you for keeping calm, professional and finishing the interview. I will certainly continue to watch your show with new found respect for you.
As much as I like Piers (where I've thought he has always been so gracious when I've seen him do interviews; however; with this particular interview, I actually thought the interview with George Zimmerman's brother was quite light weight as Tore suggested. It seems that the brother of George Zimmerman didn't look at the actual facts surrounding Trayvon Martin's case; (i.e.: the 911 tapes is excellent evidence and source which CLEARLY SHOWS the type of mindset that George Zimmerman had especially at the moment in time; the day he murdered Trayvon Martin. Piers could have asked more direct questions; like have you seen your brother’s injuries in person and/or have you seen the actual Medical Reports that showed if your brother had inquiries or not? Are you aware, that your brother has a problem background? Piers, could have really asked questions that would reveal that the brother was actually making up (make believe scenarios) that would make people think that George Zimmerman was an altar boy.
Also, Trayvon Martin didn't know ZIP about George Zimmerman nor did George Zimmerman know ANYTHING about Trayvon Martin (except the fact that he was a black teenager). All that was said out of George Zimmerman’s mouth which, (no one was putting a gun to George Zimmerman's head to say ALL those negative racist things about an innocent young black teen who was just walking along the sidewalk to a where is father was;’ so to finish watching a sports game on TV). With that 911 tape, as well as, the tape of George Zimmerman and witnesses that heard and saw Zimmerman after he killed Trayvon, as well as, getting out of the car at the police station (clearly needing no assistance) and/or showing no obvious signs of having a life or death fight that Zimmerman claimed he had.
Zimmerman’s brother didn’t say ANYTHING that would make me feel that George Zimmerman is this wonderful nice guy who was acting in self-defense on the “Stand Your Ground Law”. George Zimmerman, his father, his brother and his so called friends like Oliver in my mind after seeing their interviews, seem that the Zimmerman family and friends, and Sanford Police Department major in the ART OF LYING. I agree with Tore, that Piers could have ask questions that WOULD NOT ALLOW Zimmerman’s brother to grand stand so to further confuse the world and/or viewers about a murder that should have never happened. George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin in cold blood which, therefore, Zimmerman was Trayvon’s murderer, judge, jury, and executioner on that doomed day. African-Americans have been wrongfully targeted, abused, killed, hung, burned, beaten, and profiled for at least 300 years in this Country by folks who are simply intolerant of people who have a skin color darker than their own. Pier has to understand the history behind why African-Americans are tired of the in justices that we have suffered for years. Racist people are evil, for they want to destroy instead of celebrate the diversity that African-Americans can bring to the table. In fact, we helped build this country and in the 21st Century; people still want to discount that we too are God’s children and we deserve to be treated way better than what I’ve seen thus far
CONGRAT, PIERS FOR BEING PROFESIONAL, WHO TOURE THINKS HE IS?
HE IS GIVING THE WRONG MESSAGE AND HE IS NOT TALKING ON OUR BEHALF.
KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB AND LET tOURE BECOME JUDGE, JURY AND COPS.
WE LOST TREVON, THAT'S SAD. LET'S FOCUS ON FINGING THE TRUTH, NOTHING ELSE.
MAY GOD BLESS US
Piers also let the lawyer for martins family say that three witnesses confirmed the screaming for help was Martin, although that statement was complete BS. She was respectful though, so he treated her respectfully. Same with Zimmermans brother. I don't really see the problem.
Piers, you have every right to talk and discuss this case. This is crime is should not be about race but about justice !
Nobody has right to publicly threaten George Zimmerman or his family! Court is the place to resolve this case – not the street. Toure acted in unprofessional and disgusting way and by doing this he disgraced himself and the African-American community which he represents.
Why is there no medical attention for Zimmerman's injury' at scene of the crime, the police department are not medical responders. Zimmerman should have been seen by medical responders to verify injury at scene of the crime. Claim on Peir's Morgan: Zimmerman's brother states his broken nose in his medical history (Zimmerman's past) who is to say Zimmerman's nose was broken at scene of crime or did Zimmerman use a past injury. Case in my perspective Zimmerman called 911 and was told not to pursue. Zimmerman is guilty.
Piers: "Do you believe Zimmerman killed Trayvon"
Toure: "Yes I do"
Toure, do the words "Rush to judgement" sound in any way familiar to you when applied to someone other than a non-Black person?
Your appearance (and poor performance) will come to define "lack of professionalism" in journalism schools across the country...Well done!
A RUSH TO JUGEMENT...was exactly want GEORGE ZIMMERMAN did when he killed Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman killied a teenager who happened to have the right to be in that community. You need not feel sorry for Toure, for, you obviously don't understand where his poinis of references were coming from. Guess what: I've worked in the entertainment industry and it's okay for a journalist to be honest about what they think should someone ask them the question. A journalist not only report the facts, write the facts, spin the facts; they actually at times can say what is on their minds especially when they are asked. A good journalist is only as good as his honesty and truth.
I hate to say this but you're a MORON! Zimmerman confessed to killing Trayvon. Piers was dumb in saying he wasn't going to rush to judgment. He was only trying to make Toure look bad. In my eyes, he failed to accomplish the task. Toure didn't spell out a sentence for Zimmerman. He simply stated he killed him. When someone is murdered, they are usually killed by someone. Does that make any sense to you? That's not even a question. The question is whether Zimmerman will be charged w/manslaughter, 2nd degree murder or 1st degree murder. The question is about intent when it comes to Zimmerman. He's guilty of killing Trayvon. I'm a black woman and if Zimmerman chased and grabbed me, while not even identifying himself, I'd do whatever I could to defend myself and get away from the whack-o! They're are too many perverts in this world and when I finished with him, he would think twice about grabbing another black woman. Zimmerman is a 28 year old man. Where was the maturity found in this situation? He just couldn't let the "c**n" get away. Could he? There is no question about who pursued, pulled the trigger and killed Trayvon Martin. Read any?
Pearl...Excellent comment and I agree with you fully!!!!! Amen!
Piers, Im a african american decent, I am so ashamed of Tours anger towards you. You are definitely a professional journalist. I feel sorry for Tours because he will never understand your professionalism. I would have really enjoyed watching a professional black journalist point of view. How did this guy actually qualify to be on your show? He was just as hostile as the act being discussed. I dont have much time to watch your show so I was really disappointed to watch this discussion. Tours definitely couldnt see the facts as objectively. I would love to condemn Zimmerman however we dont have all the facts. Its obvious Zimmerman's family is trying to protect their name. However I would consider a better screening process for future guests on your show. Its hard to watch somebody harass another human being on a live interview. You handled it well, however I wouldnt want Tours to ever speak for me.
Since so many of you seem to want to identify your race this evening, let me say that I'm a black woman and I enjoyed the interview. I'm neither ashamed of Toure nor am I baffled about how he got on Piers Morgan's show. U are really one naive person. Do you even know who Piers Morgan is? He's the former editor of Rupert Murdock's New of the World newspaper...the one that is being investigated for tapping celebrity phones and other allegations dealing with improprieties within the paper. Pierce is a hard-nosed tabloid journalist who got his reputation from being ruthless, invasive and disrespectful to those in positions of power, that did not exclude celebrities. Where was that Piers Morgan last night when he interviewed Zimmerman's brother? He was only trying to get ratings. FYI: Since you can't figure out how Toure got on Piers' show tonight, I'll give you a little clue:RATINGS! Remember, he's a tabloid journalist.
just google "piers morgan and toure" and you will discover that way before the two of them got on air together, they had been duking it out on twitter and calling one another out for a while. So Toure didn't suddenly get angry on the show, There had been taunts and criticisms going on for a while. And by the way, Toure was right. Piers was soft on Robert Zimmerman. That interview was all about ratings for him, and he allowed RZ to spout off nonsense without really challenging him. In that regard, his journalistic integrity was off...
Here's the law. The case turns on the issues of "pursuit," "removal of a child", (17 years old) an whether Traavon was a "lawful resident." Yes he was. He was staying with his father and his father's fiance. Remember, police report verifies that this child gained access by using his pass code at the entrance gate.
READ THE LAW FOR YOURSELF.......
This is my take. Both sides – Piers and Toure came across as egomaniacs. At the beginning Pierce sounded more professional, and Toure was the one who had an ego by repeatedly saying: " You are too new to the situation to fully understand what's going on here, and what's really at stake for America." You can make a point about something like that in a more suited way. It's true sometimes a person's race, nationality etc. might make somebody not understand the minutiae of a situation. Toure should have expanded on that. That happens all the time across different ethnicity, religious groups, race etc. You don't have to be from a different country. It happens here in the U.S all the time. Even sometimes among families, place of work etc. I do have to say, like I said, it is okay to make that point, but is the way Toure said it , and with the smirk on his face. He surely had something to prove.....Pierce lost me when he said : What a load of fatuous nonesense." He was professional until then. His ego gave in.
You were ABSOLUTELY brilliant in this segment Piers!
Piers I find you to the most professional and a true journalist. Toure is no journalist and has no idea what journalism is. He is arrogant, high on him self and the kind of face msnbc should stay clear off, a real thug with a high vocabulary and a small sense of what it is to be open minded and true to the profession . If Toure was a child and he sure acted like one. he just got disciplined.
Whatever points of reference Toure' had were diluted by his hostile and arrogant presentation. I would think that someone trying to get his point across would be intelligent enough to present reasonable and unemotional arguments to support his contention. It was apparent right out of the starting block that his only motivation was a confrontation.
Peirce was pretty much called a racist for no reason at all and he didn't like it. LOL
Tea party says "How does it feel?"
Piers, you're hot. You set this bufoon straight. Whoever can't see that it also a bufoon with a personal agenda.
Toure' just says what Obama, Holder, Derek Bell, Farrakhan and Rev Wright are thinking.
I believe there's a majority of anchors and reporters that have a fixed opinion of Trayvon Martin death. Do I expect them to state it like Tour'e did, absolutely NOT. Piers has asked anyone in the last few weeks what their opinion is, personally, legally, speculatively; he's had experts on, he's had the Martins, their attorneys, and now Zimmerman's brother appear. Was he to grill the brother as Tour'e would with total bias or to ask questions for the rest of us to consider. I didn't find anything revealing in Zims brother except a brother speaking up for his brother (which is usually expected). Toure's attack on Piers I found totally out of line. To blame a person, resident in the United States for approx seven years and to use their heritage as reason to knock their abilities to ask questions about this situation appalling. Does Tour'e believe this is not being discussed in many countries by people of every ethnic background. One does not have to be part of the American experience to form an opinion based on the facts to date and hopefully any new information that comes forward. I do believe Zimmerman is in the wrong here. How Tour'e approached his attacks and expectation of the populace being thrown by an interview he did not agree with .. I find problematic and he does no favors for his "community". I would expect many would disagree with Tour'e on how thorough Piers has been with the guests he's had to date. I would listen to Piers any day before the ramblings of an angry already has his mind made up public affairs reporter.
MSNBC should fire this "nut". He is so irresponsible and "flip" with his comments and appears to be extremely immature. Toure is the type of person we do not need in this debate. His comments are inflammatory and just gets everyone more upset about this whole tragic event. Toure, just go away and spew your racist junk elsewhere. It appears to me most people are "discussing this matter" with respect for one another and even Trayvon's parents are being extremely dignified and just want this to go to court. You should be ashamed of yourself Toure and I am sure Trayvon's parents are ashamed of you too.
I'm proud of Toure!! Why don't you go away, instead. Long live, Toure and his honesty. Stick to the truth, always......no matter what!!!!
According to Michelle Obama and Ben Jealous, it's equality to cause people pain.
You sound ignorant, tool! Sounds like you watch too much FOX News. Get out sometimes and check out what's going on around the country instead of sticking with those you only feel most comfortable with. I think that's your problem because your comments are typical of someone who is very ignorant of others. They make you sound dumb and unintelligent!!
You also sound ignorant for voicing your opinion when you do not know what I am talking about. I do not watch FOX news.
Larry King, I'm down on my knees begging you to come out of retirement and return to CNN. This disrespectful, incompetent, pompous egomaniac who has the unmintegated gall to call himself a profesional journalist is more than I can take. He insults your memory with his unprofessional conduct. He prooved that tonight. He continuously interupted Toure when he was speaking and personally insulted him. His conduct was disgraceful. CNN, what were you thinking when you hired this buffoon to replace one of the greatest interviewers ever? I've had it. I will not watch CNN again until this pathetic excuse for a jounalist has departed. THAT'S A PROMISE!!!
Toure acted like a complete tool.
Why? Because he told the truth?
I have read some of the comments on this page. I do agree with some, and do not agree with others , and that is okay. Why is that people would like to start a sentence by saying: "I am black from....; I from Jamaica ....; I am middle aged black man ... etc." Not to say, you can't say that? Why don't you make a point without saying, " I am black that, african that etc." This is problem we having in this country. People now, and I think most of the people on this forum are not even blacks to begin with. They just write they are black because they want their comments to be taken seriously. Your point can be taken seriously without saying " I am black, " so far as your comment is sincere.
Gee: Yes, I am one who stated that I am a Black African-American woman. Also, surely my reason wasn’t base on any of your assumptions and/or references? I stated my race based on the fact that I am proud of being a Black woman and there is nothing wrong when someone identifies with who and what they are. The focus of this conversation touches several topics which are: Piers interview with Zimmerman’s brother and Toure’s comments to Piers concerning the murder of a here it goes...a young black teenager...who was murdered wrongfully by George Zimmerman, who obviously displayed some serious racist issues that he had about African-American males or Trayvon Martin wouldn't be dead today. Unlike you, I'm not afraid to talk about "Race"...this is what is wrong with America, not wanting to face the injustices, prejudices, and racism that has taken its toll on many (along with their families) of those who have been wrongfully murdered where justice was not served on their behalf
well, im black........
and doh... its because toure seemed to think he was the spokesman for all black pple, i guess we feel bad that he was utterly rude to piers....we do not all agree with antics of al sharpton and co, yes i want justice for trayvon and i believe that g.z killed him in cold blood, but what u believe is irrelevant, it is up to the court of law to pass judgement. forget about the colour but a young man was killed and his mother will hurt forever...
This Man is an IDIOT... Pierce, you did a Great jot at the interview with Zimmermans interview...
Piers. I had a broken nose and never bled. My nose was a little swollen and my eyes did not bruise until days later and did not go to the doctor until approximately one week later at which time, I learned that my nose was broken.
Victoria, you're an imbecile and a tool. What an absolute IDIOT, you are! May GOD judge you for your lies, deceitful stories, and attempts to trick the people. You're a fraud. You're the typical, stupid, misled, ideological conservative moron who thinks he/she is smarter than he/she really is. The shoe fits you, perfectly. Where it, baby!!!! LOL!!! What a FRAUD you are!!!
By the way, Victoria, you're also a LIAR! If your nose is broken, which means there is a fracture of the nose, there will be SWELLING. What kind of imbecile are you? LOL! The nose swelling decreases within 3-5 days. Noone walks around for a week, with a broken nose and doesn't know that something is seriously WRONG, you stupid! I have to call you that because like I said earlier, the shoe FITS!
I don't understand why this guy was so angry and vindictive to Piers, who clearly agrees that Zimmerman is guilty, and clearly did not buy that guys BS last night! It was infuriating to watch, I think CNN should have pulled that because I think his anger was inappropriate and misplaced. Toure may have done things differently but it's not his show.
You don't understand why Toure was angry? Huh? Well, you didn't listen to Toure! I understood exactly why he was angry. I was upset by the interview with Zimmerman's brother, as well. II understand why my father was angry and cried when he was alone after being treated like a boy in front of his wife. I understand why my uncles are angry for being pulled over while driving black in a nice car. I understand why my brothers are angry for being questioned about where they're going as if they are always up to no good. The only way you wouldn't understand Toure's anger is that you haven't walked a day in his shoes, aren't a black male who's been hassled and harassed by authorities for no other reason than you're black and/or you don't give a damn and don't care to understand Toure's point of view because it's not your experience or your concern. You figure out which category you fit in!!!
this" toure" is a major dick. dont lower yourself wasting any more time on this moron. hes all pasionate only because the kid was black. its not about justice. hes a fool the way he is being so unprofessional.
i respected piers choice to interview toure. toure sounded very brash in his assessments. having said that i will also say that journalists lost focus with this story. cnn among other news outlets took a position in this story, which is hypocritical of the journalists who did this. i have noticed that journalists like Anderson cooper and Erin Burnett take positions/sides in a lot of the stories they air. i respect the journalists at cnn i have been watching them since i was a child but i feel you take positions so hastily with your stories that the way you potray them is not honest. the issue of race was brought up and is such a deep issue now because the media potrayed it as so. race is not the issue the issue should be that a neighbourhood watchman shot and killed a young man who was unarmed. whether he is charged with murder or manslaughtershould be the question. trayvon is not the only 17 year old who has lost his life to guns, in fact alot of young black men kill each other. here is a thought. If trayvone had been shot by a black man would this be such a big story or just another shooting police have to deal with? i salute piers though he is the only journalist who has done his best to be objective and fair!
If you think for one minute that Zimmerman would've gotten his butt out of his car and followed a 17 year old white boy who he didn't recognize in the neighborhood, you're dreaming. You are either naive or totally unable to deal with the facts. Trayvon was not targeted because he was 17 years old. He was not targeted because he was tall. He was not targeted because he was carrying Skittles. He was not targeted because he was carrying Arizona Iced Tea. Zimmerman told the dispatcher 5 times that Trayvon was black. Yet, you say that this is not about race. What world do you live in? Furthermore, according to his brother he wasn't patrolling the neighborhood. Yet, he got out of his vehicle and pursued a 17 year old black teenager and I emphasize BLACK because Zimmerman wanted the dispatcher to know Trayvon was black. Otherwise, why would he mention the color of his skin 5 times. Don't you think the dispatcher heard him and took down the information the first time? The dispatcher did not ask for the race of Trayvon after the 1st time but Zimmerman had to let him know 4 more times. How anybody knowing the facts could think that this case is about anything other than race, speaks loudly about how many people do NOT know what they are talking about or choose to walk around with blinders on!!! This unwillingness to deal with reality is why people like George Zimmerman and others get away with harassing, humiliating, discriminating and yes, even gunning down innocent people in the streets!! GOD breathe life into the soul of America!!
piers your are very professional toure is very RUDE. i LOVE YOUR SHOW BECAUSE HOW YOU PRESENT IT.
If a journalist interviews some one and stands on one side this is bias and unpro.
Toure's, You really don't get it, do you? If you want people to understand your view point, you do not go on national media and proceed to conduct yourself in such an arrogant manner ... perhaps you really do not understand that many people already have a horrible opinion of black people. Do you not understand, you only proved them right! You have already tried the case and I guess you are ready to hang Zimmerman from the nearest tree. While I do agree that everything points to a murder, I will never settle for so called "facts" from a radical like you!
They are terrorizing doctors and the police department from revealing the fact – Zimmerman acted in self defense and they have the proof.
VP: You are delusional and need to stop going to your KKK rallies!!!! The person who was terrorized was Trayvon Martin; for he was MURDERED by GEORGE ZIMMERMAN! People of color are not back in the days of overseers and plantation masters; therefore, it is truly okay for African-Americans to have civil rights to speak and make sure “JUSTICE” prevails.
Sicko Victoria or whatever you are......Get some psychiatric help! You're in desperate need of it!
Toure was right on the money when he said that Piers Morgan was too new to America to understand this tragedy and the correct response from Piers would have been "I respect what you are saying", not "what a load of fatuous nonsense". The phrase "walk a mile in my shoes" resonates here. A white middle aged Englishman cannot possibly fathom what young black men in America have to contend with.
In response to Scotty's comment, "The phrase "walk a mile in my shoes" resonates here. A white middle aged Englishman cannot possibly fathom what young black men in America have to contend with." Does this mean that only African-American journalists can now report on this story because they are certainly the only people that know how this feels. You need a reality check... pleeeease! Toure should be ashamed of himself..he sounded like a pompous ass!
actually piers was the pompous ass – "what a load of fatuous nonsense" says it all!
Toure. You cause your own pain. I am glad that Zimmerman is not in prison. It's equality – Michelle Obama and Ben Jealous who have committed worse crimes are out of prison. Prisons are full of blacks because they commit the crime.
What a pile of rubbish, but thinks for showing everyone what an ignorant, narrow minded racist you are, Victoria.
In November 2011, the Archives of General Psychiatry and the Los Angeles Times reported that new study finds widespread substance abuse among Native American, mixed-race and white teenagers. The study of more than 27,000 adolescents found 31.5 percent of Native American teens had substance-related disorders, followed by adolescents of multiple race or ethnicity (25 percent), whites (23 percent) and Hispanics (21 percent).
In contrast, only 5 percent of African American teenagers abused or were dependent on drugs or alcohol, the study found. For Asian or Pacific Islander teenagers, the rate was 3.5 percent. Now, how could that be given that African Americans are, overwhelmingly, charged with drug offenses when compared to whites. I'll spell it out for you Victoria, since you appear to be racist, ill-informed and SLOW, it's because of racism! There's no way that white teenagers use drugs at a much higher level than blacks, yet they are not incarcerated. In fact, as a black female whose family moved to a white neighborhood when I was a child, I can tell you that the white kids shocked me because I never knew about drug use in school until I entered an all-white school. Iowa is overrun by meth addicts. Blacks aren't even 3% of the population so you can't blame blacks for the meth addiction issue there. Not to mention countless other states where cocaine, heroin and meth are on the rise. This is not about blacks being more criminal-minded than whites. Whites commit as much crime, if not more than blacks and Hispanics. This is about opportunities and the lack, thereof. That's why blacks are locked up more often than their white counterparts committing the exact same offenses!
I just wanted to say that please do not think all Americans are so rude. This man was a bad example of some Americans, no class, loses temper easily. Thank you.
Piers, I think you do a fantastic reporting job. I am a big fan from Canada and I know Toure was just flapping his tongue without backing up his facts. Keep it up, it entertains my eve.
I think Piers did a great job. WOW he is totally right though. I'm sick of "professional" journalists using their power to publicity convict Zimmerman when they don't have all the facts. Its outrageous that they are allowed to do this and aren't getting fired. People are innocent until proven guilty in this country and that is part of what makes this country great. And these idiot journalists are trying to change that.
Toure is the racist. Morgan was clearly the professional!
Piers. Hated you yesterday, I am now your biggest fan. Nice job.....
I love watching Piers Morgan but i think his involvement in this case is not doing him any good. It appears to me that he was trying so hard for us to believe Zimmerman's brother and trying to make Trayvon look guilty. Perhaps that is not his intention but that is the perception. Toure i think was right in saying that Piers does not understand the magnitude of the racial problems and i really did not think he did. it is unjust and dumb to compare Zimmerman's brother with Toure the later has a passion for the case because it could be him or his son, the former has nothing to lose so the passion cannot be there. It is hard being black in America on any level.
Hey Peirs, You're a class act and you've handled the Trayvon Martin story as well if not better than anyone else. I have never seen such a rush to judgement with people who I once regarded as talented and thoughtful going off the deep end in this march to lynch Zimmerman before he gets his day in court. Case in point. Spike Lee tweeting the address of someone he thought Zimmerman and actually turned out to be an old couple in their 70's. I previously liked this guy Toure from MSNBC but no more. This "so-called" journalist is just a racist fool himself. I understand the knee jerk reaction from citizens on both sides of this issue, but I do not understand leaders and journalists that are supposed to be responsible and keep a cool head jumping on either side of this issue just yet. Zimmermann likely overreacted and committed a crime but he's not even arrested yet. Everone needs to shut th heck up and let the police and prosecutors do their work. As usual Peirs you handled yourself with class in all your interviews and I believe you did the public a service by interviewing Zimmerman's borther. In fact, I was quite disturbed and uncomfortable for him watching it. You grilled him well but fairly. If I were you or CNN I would never let this reverse racist Toure on your show again.
This Toure guy is a complete a**hole! Absolutely pathetic. Piers is a great journalist, and for Toure to say anything otherwise is utterly ridiculous! As a journalist it isn't your job to verbally attack someone continuously. If he had a problem with Piers, he could have said it in a much more respectful, professional manner. People actually listen to Toure and take him seriously? How can you when he speaks to others in such ways. Thank you Piers for what you do, I have so much respect for you that you didn't freak out on that d*** more than you did!
Piers Morgan, I never come to this discussions but after see your show today I must to recognize you're an amazing journalist, my daughters wants to fallow your line and thanks to come to America, about this guy, he seems have a strong racial issue, actually close to the hate, this case is very confuse and no one shall take side here until the court define this case, however here who has fully responsibility are the guys go pass this bill in Florida, And this shall be in alert to all other states to review this kind fo laws.
Piers is an idiot. Which makes Toure a massively huge totally ridiculous idiot. Toure is a racist.
I am appalled at how Toure treated Piers! How hypocritical of Toure to mention Piers nationality! Isn't that what we're here for????? How dare him say ANYTHING about the fact that he "can't understand" how America feels. The best moment was Piers saying "What a load of crap!!!! Listen...the interview wasn't strong by any stretch of the imagination....Piers has done much better (lwhat the hell WAS Zimmerman doing going to Target with a gun for...YEEAHHHHHA RIGHT!!!!) but the level of arrogance displayed by Toure made me sick....I hope I don't see him on MSNBC anymore...there is no place for those who predjudice other cultures on MSNBC. He should apologize for his arogance and unprofessionalism ASAP!!!!!
Mr. Toures was very unprofestional. In his mind he has already convict Zimmerman. I wonder what he would be saying if it was the other way around?
Piers, I did look at your interview with Zimmernan last night and thought it was professionally conducted. As a journalist you allow persons to aire their views, regardless of your persuasion. You did well. I also admired the manner in which you highlighted the Trayvon story without deviating from the cause.
Why did you allow that Drama Queen/King to make you lose your cool..he's not worth your professionalism. I did feel your pain tonight. Chin up Piers!!! Keep up the great job.
Good on you for calling Toure out. This is a human tragedy and those that are trying to capitalize on it with "sensationalism" are missing the point. The bottom line is a young man is dead. Regardless of his race, his life and all of its potential is lost.
I think that piers morgan was very professional with his interview with Zimmermans brother. I believe like most that zimmerman is a murderer. And at very least should be arrested and broght to trial. But I also believe that he deserves a trial. And his family deserves to be heard just like everybody else. Its hard for me to believe this Toure is actually a professional journalist. He totally embarressed himself. I watched both interviews and I thought Piers did a good job with the zimmerman brother. And he handled Toure very well.
To Brobin, I am African American. I say it because we as African American stand up for right not color. So there's your answer. Now as an African American, I am very disappointed in Toure. He need another job. He had a few minutes of fame and now please hide. I am a regular watcher of Piers Morgan. He is very good, respectful and when he has to be he is tactful. I like it the way Piers handled Toure. He has so much anger. Like the Bible says, a soft spoken word will go alot futher than being arrogant and rude. Just because you can speak big words, does not mean you use them correctly. I wouldn't dare buy his books. We as African Americans are all angry about Zimmerman getting away with murder but you have to be a dumb man to think you can go on someone show like Toure did and tell them how to interview. Where is your show Toure? After tonight let's see who hires you. He has really embarrassed me. Sad Sad Sad.
you are absoultly right im an afro american 2 n also belive Mr Zimmerman is guilty n shouldnt be free, n im soooooo DISAPPOINTED on how toure insulted Piers. This way very rude of him, i couldnt even stand listening to him with that disrespectful attidue. Come on your a journalist ppl are watching you could have made your point VERY clear in a more respectful manner, cause ppl would ve listened.
piers sucks. he was a fox reporter for the now defunct British newspaper because of lies and deception, and now over here he's sucking up to stupid, idiotic fox friends. Wow, what a journalist!!!! Toure has lived here his whole life, he has a right to feel bad about Treyvon. So do I. So stop your whining.
Oh so you are saying because Piers is from another country he has less of a right, if not any, to speak of Treyvon's death? But the ignorant Tour'e can because he lived here?
OK So what about all of the Americans who go to all the 3rd world countries and risk their lives to save peoples lives!??!?
OR if you are so smart, then what about the journalist that die in other countries trying to get the truth out? Syria has claimed a couple lives.....
hmmm as an American you aren't really showing your stripes but more of the ignorance of an uneducated delinquent.
MOST OF ALL DID YOU see how Sir Tour'e did not ever answer a single question but just got wrapped up in his testosterone trying to prove Piers wrong and interupting him on every chance he could find instead of answering the real question Piers was asking and the question the people of American want to hear. Also did you not see the ignorance of Sir Tour'e?
I really think Piers stood his ground and was measured in his response to Toure. That guy is doing more to fan the flames of hatred than Zimmerman himself. We should all just let the criminal justice system do its job and not assume the worst all the time. I usually am not a fan of Piers, because I think his show can be inane. But he is much more proffessional than Toure.
Toure needs to take a step back emotions are running too high about this case I understand the African American community are fed up with the treatment of young males. These young people are not going to take what happen in the ciivil rights movement.
If they don't arrest Zimmerman I am afraid tempers are really going to flair and someone will have to calm them down. This is bigger than what people realize and hatred toward President Obama is also intertwined in this and they are not going to take it any more.
Everybody needs to watch what they say especially the candidates and some Radio/TV pundents who are fueling the fire. This is serious business and there are a lot of angry people out there.
As a pyshiatrist for over 22 years, this interview was one of the most disturbing I've ever seen. For a so called credible journalist (Toure) to ignore all truth in favor of his own ego shows real issues in judgement.. Furthermore, to lash out at Mr. Morgan for not being American showed a vulnerability in Mr. Toure's confidence in his own judgement to start with. You always hear about the lame stream media, the far left meda...this interview was a transparent look into Mr. Toure's highly biased, highly prejudiced soul. Any credibility this man had before as a biased reporter must be questioned in the future.
If you step aside who was the better journalist, see the original complain of Mr.Toure, than you have to admit that the soft fluffy way of giving interviews suits the profit driven CNN as well as the NRA supporting all efforts to keep the Right Wingers, holding there head up high to justify there gun ownership fueling the hate against a minority
Never heard of Toure' before. The man seemed immature and lacked even a facade of journalistic professionalism.
As an American I was appalled by his zenphobic attack upon Morgan. Morgan appears highly educated and a 'citizen of the world'. I guess Toure' (whoever he is) isn't educated enough to know that the UK also has some racial 'issues' in their past. Britons long ago initiated the slave trade which brought Toure's ancestors to the N. American continent.
Wow! I can't wait for the day when Toure looks back at this interview and realizes how immature in his profession he is. I wonder if he will apologize?
Toure needs to learn the art of communication!
Toure may not have liked Piers's interview (if Toure had any intelligence, he would have seen this was a very telling interview), but at least Piers does not believe he is THE OFFICIAL on this topic. Toure cannot see that Piers was able to get yet another story from the Zimmerman family. Does Toure not say, himself, that there are different stories from the Zimmerman camp? Did Piers not just proove that to millions of people by having George Zimmerman's brother on the show and allow him to spew his lies? Does Toure really believe that Piers took the statements from George Zimmerman's brother as truth?
Does Toure not see that in his statements about Piers being "to new to the situation" and to new to our country that Piers has no right to speak on this issue are themselves prejudice thougth and speak? Really! Toure, you do not know PIers. If you did. If you spent anytime watching him and his show, you would know Piers is a PROFESSIONAL and always is very well prepared and educated abou the topics his is presenting on his national show. Is Toure really so arrogant to believe that Piers cannot possible understand the "nuances" of this situation? To me, Toure is being very prejudice himself in stating that Piers cannot possibly understand the situation. Wow. Toure, you have just made yourself look very, very bad. I wonder if your co-workers are cringing at your derrogatory and rude statements.
Toure, at least Piers understands that he, personally, was not there, and thus, cannot possible know for certainty what transpired. Were you there Toure? Do you know with abosolute certainty what happened? How could you possibly? At least Piesr knows that all the facts have not come out. I think if you would have gotten off your high, blind horse, you would have seen that Piers believes this incident to be tragic. I think if you were not so arrogant and immature, you would have seen that Piers is confident that the truth will come out and that justice for Treyvon will be served. I am also sadened to think that you may be looking at this as a "Black" issue. I am so saddened for the Martin family. This should not have happened to their child. However, I think you need to look further into what has happened here and see that this is a human being issue. Absolutely NO PERSON on this Earth should be profiled. Not even Piers Morgan.
I was wondering when Piers Morgan will apologize for being an arrogant jerk who disregarded the experiences of a young black male. Toure, as a cultural critic, was speaking from experience. I've heard how he's been harassed and singled out because of the color of his skin. Heck, Senate Chaplain Barry Black, a black man who is a decorated retired Navy Admiral, within the last week, spoke about how he, too, has experienced the same harassment. Piers can't see what Toure sees unless he walks a day in his shoes. He's in NO position to tell Toure he did everything he could in the interview. I am a black woman and I don't believe he did everything he could've done while interviewing Zimmerman's interview. Someone who was either well aware of the black experience in America or who has first-hand experience would've asked more probing questions. PERIOD! Perspective matters!! Piers thinks he knows everything but he does NOT!
I did look at your interview with Zimmernan last night and thought it was professionally conducted. As a journalist you allow persons to aire their views, regardless of your persuasion. You did well. I also admired the manner in which you highlighted the Trayvon story without deviating from the cause.
I saw the interview last night. Piers was a gentleman. I like Toure', but tonight he was out of control. Sure, I, too, was frustrated by Zimmerman's comments and felt he was untruthful. Keep doing the right thing, Piers, despite adversity and your life will be truly blessed.
I think Piers did a great interview with Robert Zimmerman. While watching it I thought he challenged him on many occasions. I think Toure only wants one side of the story to come out. Everyone keeps saying that they hear a boy screaming on the 911 tape. When I first listened to it, I thought it sounded like a man screaming so thought it had to be Zimmerman, then I heard that all the photos I've been seeing of Martin were 5 or 6 years old and he was actually 17 and over 6 feet, so it could have been either one, but definately not a little boy. And why do people keep saying that George Zimmerman weighed 250 pounds when he is actually 5' 8" and 170 pounds. And why does everyone keep saying that Zimmerman was told not to follow Martin but he kept doing it? If you listen to the 911 tape he say okay that he would stop and you can tell that he does stop running then he continues to tell the 911 operator where he will be waiting by his vehicle when the police get there. I have heard that there was actually an eye witness that gave a statement to police that night that saw the whole thing, the family has talked about it and the police have said that is why he was not arrested. I wish Florida could release all the information so there would not be so much gossip. I think the best thing to do would be to arrest Zimmerman, release all the correct information and let justice take its court instead of trying this case in the court of public opinion on gossip and rumors.
I don't know what our President has to do with this discussion, Michelle, Eric Holder, common guys, hide your hate. This is between Piers and Toure. Piers' journalistic approach is not hard-hitting, that's just his style. He should stick to celebrity guests. Toure's point (although he didn't articulate it like I would have preferred) is simple, THE MATTER IS OF DEEP AMERICAN HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND SADNESS, that affording Robert Zimmerman a world stage at prime time required that he is properly and surgically interrogated rather than the "softball" approach Piers is known for. Oh, one more thing, you hateful bloggers or posters; can you get a high school diploma before you write in? It helps because targeting the Obamas with your hate just reinforces your self-hate and hickish culture.
Well spoken, thank you
Does this guy, Toure, claim to be a journalist? Wow! How sad. Journalists are suppose to be objective. Just report. Period. He is adding to the madness that is pervasive in all the news outlets. Piers you are a professional in the way you keep your cool with your guests. I NEVER watch MSNBC and NBC; I now know why. Piers, your show is both entertaining and informing; keep on doing what you do.
Lol ppl are so stupid of course some of you ppl don't understand how upset a black person gets when its about race and injustice I'm not going to be on here saying I'm black or white but I understand that america still have not healed from racism this is just something that put it to light and ppl are tired of injustice and black ppl have no vocie to it because ppl always think its the black card being pull I've seen it for my own eyes and if we as appl think the high justice system cares about us have fun dealing with this problem for another 100 years of course there will be hate but we need protectionn too
Mr.Toure is right. I was annoyed to see that CNN and Pier invited one side of the story, when the other side is facts that speak for itself. Not guess but prove if the truth can not be opened for all eyes to see.
This will prove damaging fueling the NRA to seed doubt in order to save the fear to sell there products.
Hello, Piers, I'm here to commend you for the job you did today with your debate with Toure...that is of course if you could call a prejudiced, biased, unprofessional journalist ranting and rambling on and on without even letting you give a rebuttal point by point a "debate". You stuck to the main rule of journalism: stick to the facts, not the rumors, and do not take a biased stance. Apparently, Toure didn't. he NEVER, at any point (and I particular paid attention to this) gave SPECIFIC examples of journalistic misinformation on your part. Toure, if you're reading this, I'm telling you this: I never disagreed with your point that Piers could have followed up with more questions, but you need to prepare a good argument if you want to criticize someone's show...ON THEIR OWN SHOW.
I watched the interview, Piers called Toure names twice. So he wasn't as professional and cool as you think.
Good for you Piers. Why is it that reporting the news now requires taking a side, no matter how obvious it may be. Is it not the purpose of a "Professional Journalist" to be neutral? Yet, your being attacked as if its a shame your not taking a side.
In our fight, America, to find true equality, lets not destroy journalism.
Shame on you piers and you call yourself a professional
Until you walk a day in the shoes of an African American male and their parents you don't understand everybody is angry and this is where professional journalism comes in but they are also human too because they have had that expierence.
I hope and Pray that the justice system will be fair or you are looking at the time when Martin Luther King was asassinated and it was not a pretty thing over this country. They are now walking on egg crates and emotions are running very high. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I would be very careful how I judge someone TENIONS ARE VERY HIGH ALL OVER IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY AS WELL AS SOME WHITES.
Piers, you were more than gracious to allow Toures to verbally abuse you in such an unprofessional, inappropriate manner. First of all, CNN and the Piers Morgan Show is NOT a court of law and unlike what Toures suggested, you didn't have the right to drill George Zimmerman's brother like a private investigator. Zimmerman was your guest and didn't have to appear on your show at all. Had you been accusing or disputing Zimmerman's comments, he could have got up and walked off of the set. You were firm, but not rude and should be applauded for being the first person to have any of the Zimmerman family on your show. Secondly, it was actually brave of George's brother to appear on nationwide TV that could have been risking his life with all of the angry racial hatred going on.
As a last note, Toures said "You don't know about what goes on in America." But obviously, Toures doesn't know that in America a person is INNOCENT until proven guilty and they have a right for a fair hearing. And he also obviously doesn't know that in the court of law, George Zimmerman will have the right for HIS side of the incident to be heard.
You were fair and professional. This is a tragic story regardless of the color of Trayvon's skin, but unfortunately, this is what happens every single time. But if Trayvon had been "white" where would Toures and all of the other racists be? They would not say one word about it. Unfortunately, Toures needs to go to an "anger management class," and then he needs to be taught about the America's legal system as to what happens when a crime is committed. There are TWO sides that must be heard before a Judge can make a fair decision on the case. Toures has already made up his mind about what happened when he doesn't have a clue as to what happened, nor does anyone else at this time other than George Zimmerman. The truth will come out and our court system will try George Zimmerman accordingly.
But the most scary thought is in knowing there are racist like Toures and others out there who are ready to have a lynch mod to take care of George Zimmerman without a trial. So, it is Tores who is NOT a professional journalist - you did handled the interview appropriately. Remember this: "People who belitte someone else - IS LITTLE!!!
america4me: I agree with everything you wrote. Well said.
You sound like a racist and you seem to be unaware of the fact that you write things that would be considered racist. What upsets many people, both white and black, about this case is that Zimmerman was not arrested even though there was 'probable cause' to arrest him. You also do not seem to understand how the legal process works. An arrest is not a conviction of guilt. Yes, you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, you can be arrested if it is 'believed' that you may have committed a crime under the law.
Here is the deal – Zimmerman is GOING to jail and in there he will get his "Black Justice" that you can count on. The police department at Sanford; you dudes are out of a job. Heads will roll starting tomorrow, watch your TV as the demonstrators flood the police department. I DON'T KNOW HOW ANY OF YOU CAN CALL TOURE names when all his asking for (in-artfully) is that this Zimmerman animal be arrested. It may take a while but he is going down. The problem with White Folks is that, most (not all) underestimate the influence of black folks, it may take a while but Zimmerman as well as any other vigilante in plain clothes or uniform that thinks they can hurt a broder is got another thing coming. Black folks revolted agains the most powerful nation on earth (USA) and changed a lotta stuff (google Civil Rights) – IT JUST TAKES TIME – ZIMMERMAN'S FREEDOM IS LIMITED. I give him even a shorter time in jail.
Zimmerman is not white....what are you talking about.....? anger management needed here maybe?
Hey Blue Chip, Journalistically Peirs Morgan is the new Gold Standard and Toure is just an arrogant and insignificant MSNBC mouthpiece. Peirs Morgan is very hardhitting and substantive in his approach. Just because he doesn't engage in yelling or name calling does not change that fact. It only makes him more compelling to watch. Toure seriously damaged his television career tonight. I suspect that in a few months you'll have to find him over at Current Tv because he is not ready for and does not posess the proper temperment needed for primetime. Toure is clearly a racist. I hope MSNBC fires him if he does not offer a sincere apology to Peirs Morgan.
Steve D, Ok, I will try this a little differently...., Pier's show on CNN is a different format and genre from what the story deserves. He ventured into "investigative journalism" which is not his strong point. You should know that Pier's last job was like American Idol. I would not be too quick to call Toure a racist, I am assuming you understand what that word means..., perhaps you don't. Toure is pop-culture and his appearance on that show was not in the capacity of a journalist, he was on there as concerned african american citizen who felt he deserved more from piers' interview with Robert. Both men are actually acquaintances and you guys fell for a the show designed to up ratings, so is TV. MSNBC will fire Toure, they like him very much, THAT I KNOW, I am in MEDIA
I love to see people on here identifying the interview as it happened, not injecting there own opinion
Oh I love to be a young Progressive Democrat seeing my brothers and sisters.
Bring it on you all out there.
Good job Blue Chip
Hey Blue Chip, Wow, a thoughtful reply, I am impressed though I totally disagree. Peirs Morgan has every right to delve into any subject he wants on his own show. Morgan clearly has strong journalistic chops and his opinion is very well informed. I dont see how a cultural/pop; commentator like Toure has any more right than Mr. Morgan to discuss this matter. You can defend Toure all you want and spin his childish uninformed and judgemental tirade all you want, but the prevailing view out there in the news world and the blogisphere is that he did the cause for justice in this case a great deal of harm. I always liked this Toure and found him to be quite humorous. Particularly when he appeared on VH1 programming. However, he is way out of his league here and revealed himself as racist in that he believes white English men have no right to an informed opinion or to discuss a matter that involves anything to do with Black society.
What kills me here is that Peirs Morgan is clearly seeking to expose the truth in this matter and to my mind has conducted his interviews with a high level of profesionalism. Morgan clearly beleives something is amiss with Zimmermann's story. Morgan is correct to let the facts come out before making a final judgement. However, what is also clear is that for people like Toure nothing less than an outright attack and conviction in the press on Zimmermann and his brother will do. Toure like Spike Lee did the cause for justice in this case a great deal of harm with their kneejerk responses and hysterical tweets. If Zimmerman is eventually arrested and convicted it will likely be appealed again and again and possibly overturned because of the poisoned political atmosphere they helped create. No verdict in the case will ever be trusted now. How does that serve society? Now if you've really been following the case, most of the same leaders who initially rushed to judgement in this case have suddenly gone silent as it is apparent that neither of the individual involved in this case were angels. To my mind, this case is about a tragic death, but it is also about whether or not as a society we need young neighborhood watch vollunteers with no proper police training to be armed and it is also about Florida's Stand Your Ground Law. I think that Zimmerman is most likely guilty of manslaughter, but the facts need to come out at trial before I can make a final judgement for myself. If Zimmerman is prosecuted for murder instead of manslaughter there is a high likelyhood he will walk because it will be very difficult to prove he woke up that day intending to kill someone. Everyone needs to chill and tone down the inflammatory rhetoric.
Toure is a racist. HUH? I guess that means he hates one of his parents! You do know that Toure is bi-racial. You're a typical idiot who thinks that Toure couldn't possibly have a white parent and express his displeasures in the manner in which he does. You're a real linear thinker, there! Join the rest of us in reality and come down from the clouds!!!! There's a real world down here where people, with feelings, dwell.
Piers is lame. Robert Zimmerman made him look very weak.
Mr. Morgan's extraordinary defensiveness and personal attacks on Toure' were the most unprofessional behaviors I have ever seen on any news channel (outside of Fox"News" which I do not consider a news channel) the past five decades. Mr. Morgan obviously does not understand the depth of racial conflict in America. Perhaps he should talk with the Southern Poverty Law Center to get more educated before he carries on any more personal attacks on people who do understand the depth of those issues. I object to news media granting George Zimmerman's relatives air time to spread their stories and opinions, so I guess Mr. Morgan would personally attack me like he did Toure'. What a major disappointment for CNN.
Good job, Ron. I concur.
You used my words Sir, thank you. I could say it better.
I agree! Piers did a horrible job and Toure called him on it. Piers could man up and admit what he did and that he needs more journalistic experience. However, Piers ego is way too big to admit he's wrong. Remember, Piers is always going to believe he's the smartest man in the room. That's Piers downfall.
I'VE WATCHED AND ENJOYED YOUR SHOW SINCE YOU BEGAN.
I AM A 72-YEAR-OLD WHITE FEMALE. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH TOURE ABOUT YOU LETTING ROBERT ZIMMERMAN SPREAD HIS FABRICATIONS TO AMERICA. IT WAS SO CLEAR WHY RZ WAS SAYING WHAT HE SAID, MAKING UP WHATEVER HE COULD IN ORDER TO CLEAR HIS BROTHER'S NAME. BUNK!. (REMINDS ME OF THE JURY OF CASEY ANTHONY WHO BELIEVED THE SIDE SHOW ABOUT HER FATHER, THEN LET HER GO FREE.) SORRY PIERS, YOU LOST ME ON THIS ONE.
Thank you nancy grace she is always the vocie of the ppl now she is the real thing
I agree GEEJAY. Pier's outside his comfort zone.
I love this country. we all get to tell our opinion without fear of arrest by the government. we live in a great country. Hopefully the Justice system will work in this case. If zimmerman is quilty he should go to jail. But no matter what happens, he should be giving a fair trial. And we have to accept whatever the justice system finds. I am afraid of what will happen if Zimmerman is found innocent. Please just remember that most people believe O.J. was quilty of killing his white wife but whites didnt start killing blacks when he was acquitted. racially motivated crime qoes both ways. If you don't like it, then don't do it!!!
The USA is a free country you can bring who ever you want in the air just don't watch if you don't like it.
Good job Piers!
Toure said it out loud and clear. If you are not willing to call somebody out by there lies, than you should not let them speak to distort the trues. People that was not there. If anybody George should do interview. Watch Lawrence O'Donnell interview with the "........Friend" of Geoge. He ask hard demanding questions over and over again and made the "friend" admit out of his own admission, that Gorge and he are not friends and spoke last before the killing.
Yup, PM should take a note from Lawrence.
Paul, our country is more "free" for some than for others. I have no doubt that George Zimmerman would be in jail in Florida if he was African American and his murder victim was white.
