READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
Attorneys from both sides of the Trayvon Martin case joined Piers Morgan last night to express their views on the handling of their clients in the case. Trayvon Martin Family Lawyer Benjamin Crump told Piers that Martin "had every right to defend himself" and that there is evidence to believe that "Trayvon Martin went to his death not knowing who this strange man was that was approaching him."
George Zimmerman attorney Craig Sonner told Piers that the media's treatment towards his client has "destroyed him unfairly" and asked the public to wait until the case goes to court before making any judgements.
"Wait till this case goes to court, wait till the facts come in, admissible evidence in court, not what's admissible evidence in public opinion because what's admissible in public opinion are doctored 911 tapes, whatever anyone else wants to say about George Zimmerman. It's been open season on just destroying this man's credibility."

I think the media is not helping at all in this case. They should be focusing on the "stand your ground" law and how it has been misused in the state of Florida by criminal offenders, by many other people in the past, and possibly with Treyvon Martin as well. Focusing on that, I think would prevent tragedies like these from happening again in the future. I agree that Zimmerman should have been arrested and should face trial for shooting Martin, but I suspect that this law somehow affected the police's ability to do so. This needs to be investigated by a higher level in the justice system, and by legal minds who understand the law, not by the media. As a community we need to focus on our laws, so that those who kill someone are held accountable and are not given a pass with these types of laws. I think we all want to feel safe in our neighborhoods and justice for everyone.
It would be great if Zimmerman were allowed to go to court and be tried in a court room by a judge and jury. But still to today's date he is a free man
In the Trayvon Martin Case, George Zimmerman violated the Civil Rights of Trayvon Martin by chasing him down the street with a gun. Americans have the right to walk down the street without someone, unprovoked suddenly seeing them and begin chasing them with a gun. In New Orleans after Hurricane Katerina policemen chased several residents and shot them and were prosecuted under Hate Crimes Law.
1. Mr. Zimmerman had no training to be able to handle himself. His mind ran away with him.
2. He was disobeying basic Neighorhood Watch (NW) protocol- do not engage, pursue, nor while neighborhood watching be carrying a gun. He knew this from a police NW session he attended at Twin Lakes.
3. He chose to directly disobey police dispatch. "Are you following him?... We don't need you to do that." That's phone speak for, "Stop that right now. We are the police, you are not. Stay put." He said, "Okay."
4. He saw Trayvon Martin through his own erroneous thoughts, i.e. he was unconscious.
5. Trayvon Martin, a kid with candy going home, had a right to defend himself from a strange man, with no official identification, who was following him, and therefore acting like a predator.
6. Everything Mr. Crump said.
To get a feel of what went on the night Trayvon Martin was killed, you need to listen to that 911 call made by a neighbor. The fatal shot is heard in the background.
Just listen to it.
You don't need any experts.
You don't need to know anything about the case.
You don't even need an open mind.
But you do need to listen to that heart-wrenching call.
Then draw your own conclusions.
All you need are your ears and a heart not made of stone.
I heard that 911 call and I can tell you as a mother, and a human being, it tore my heart to hear someone yell for help and then a that gut-wrenching shot!! Not sure why it is believed to be Zimmerman yelling for help when he was the one with the gun. My heart just breaks, I have two sons, that I now take to work and school and go back and pick them up and pray and give them a speech on what not to say to police officers. This incident has taken away my son's freedom in this Country and they are being taught to be subdued and not stand up for their rights because they may fall down for those same rights. Let God be truth and every man a lie..freedom for every man, woman, boy, and girl, every race, creed and culture will one day be free..unfortunately, that day is not today! Pray America!
Witnesses say they *HEARD* the men arguing BEFORE they were engaged in a physical confrontation. This contradicts George Zimmerman’s claim that Trayvon Martin sprung up on him and attacked him. People do not engage in physical confrontation, take a break and engage in verbal confrontation, and then go back into physical confrontation. This IS NOT human nature. It is more likely that Zimmerman continued to pursue Martin and then they engaged in a verbal confrontation (backed by witness statements) before then engaging in physical confrontation. Zimmerman's story makes no sense. He is/was the aggressor, and therefore self-defense does not apply.
A lot of what Zimmerman has stated just does not make sense at all.The screams first of all are not that of Zimmerman's.Secondly if his head was pounded against concrete and his nose broken they would not have cancelled the second ambulance. And just as Mr. Crump says,Trayvon's body was found far away from where Zimmerman's SUV was.He needs to stand trial for what he did.I find it really funny that his attorney says the 911 tapes have been doctored, that's his defense, really ??
Piers you did a wonderful job interviewing the attorneys last night. I think you brought out so many good points.
May I say to Zimmerman's attorney He needs to remember first....Zimmerman has not been charged with anything that would not allow him the opportunity to go to trial so that the evidence can be presented fairly. Can we take this back to basics....I believe if he is arrested and allowed to testify in a state of court all of this drama would be remissed and justice can be served as it should be.
What a terrible interview Piers Morgan conducted with Treyvon Martin's attorneys. He is so biased and narrow-minded,unable to let the truth surface. He was loud obnoxious and rude.
I will not watch him again. Fawning over Jane Fonda was also a major turn off and this was the final blow. Piers go back to England maybe they can tolerate you. I can't
Piers should be ashammed about his inteview–he is only quailtifed to comment on the upcomming royal birth-thank the lord he is not a real media person.
Trayvon Martin had the right to walk on the sidewalk in the Sanford Development. When George Zimmerman spotted him he immediately got out of his truck and began to pursue him with his gun, through the housing development. This was causing great concern and fear to the teen as he indicated to his girlfriend on the phone. All citizens have a Civil Right to walk on an American City’s sidewalk without a maniac with a gun chasing them. I believe that Travon’s Civil Right was violated once Zimmerman spotted him. I think that the federal government must handle this because there have several cases where a murderer has chased a victim in Florida, killed them and Florida Judges dismissed the case. Therefore Florida routinely ignores Civil Rights Violations such as this.
