Tonight: Jonah Goldberg Returns, Live

Coming up this evening at 9 p.m., "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes back author Jonah Goldberg for a live interview.

The syndicated columnist first joined Piers Morgan last Monday, for a face to face discussion that proved hotly contested and highly contentious:

Despite their differences, all parties involved have agreed to a rematch, during which the pair of personalities will debate Goldberg's new book, "The Tyranny of Cliches: How Liberals Cheat in the War of Ideas."

Tune in this evening at 9 p.m., as Morgan and Goldberg follow up their first meeting, about which the guest said: "You're cross-examining me. You're not interviewing."

What a liberal fool. Clearly Piers prooved Jonah's point to a tee. He is so left he doesn't even understand that he is asking questions from the leftest point of view. He like most liberals only see things from a single point of view that is out of the mainstream and very socialist in context. Jonah Goldberg clearly and easily showed how easy it is to expose a liberal and their slanted style of "journalism". Well done Jonah. Please make yourself available to more liberal interviewers

Peirs , just a reminder the 8 states you stated as allowing Gay marriage were forced into it and the vote never was held fairly to allow the people to vote for or against. The States that were fair allowed the people to vote and they all voted against it including North Carlina recently. We live in a country were the people should have the say not the politicians and judges that have their pockets lined.

I started out liking Piers Morgan...but, Jonah Goldberg is right, Piers leans heavily left and to say he doesn't is hogwash.
It is obvious that he supports liberals and when he says he has had more republicans on – it is merely for sport. He wants to "catch" them, make them look stupid and pander to the left. At least Larry King tried to act middle-of-the-road! Great debating Piers..but just own up to who you are and please please try to respect your guests even if they are – gasp – conservative. You do know there are wonderful, educated, smart, patriotic, considerate people on the right?!?!?

Jonah Goldberg mentions a checklist of priorities that includes whether you are for expanding freedom or limiting freedom. Without specifying whose freedom, freedom from what, freedom to do what, this is exactly what Goldberg accuses liberals of doing with social justice. There is, of course, a well-articulated theory of social justice, for example that of John Rawls, to which many liberals could appeal. Is there a theory of freedom–just the bare word, freedom?–that Goldberg has in mind?

TO: Piers Morgan, this is in response to comments made on your show tonight concerning gay persons. Is being gay a choice? The answer is yes. In Romans 1:25-28 reads...For they EXCHANGED the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever, Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women EXCHANGED the natural function for that which is unnatural. and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a "depraved mind," to do those things which are not proper......So, this is simply saying people EXCHANGED their desires. Gay persons are not born gay, it's their choice. Can this lifestyle change 180*? Yes, if they ask for forgiveness (like straight or gays must do first) ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior and ask Him to enter their hearts. They will be healed and can live a healthy straight life. Those who find this way unacceptable are those who choose to remain gay and/or those who don't believe in Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Just because you don't believe it, doesn't mean it's not true!

Hahahahaha......YOU ARE CRAZY. Who cares what the bible says. The bible also says thousands of things that are absolutely NOT true. Phttp://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/3.0/1px.giflus, why do you care? If you're not gay, drop it!

I can guarantee you Stella, with 100% certainty, that there is no such thing a Jesus Christ.....as the son of god.....I can also guarantee you that if there was, you're going to hell for not being excepting to others.

Thank you Jayne for your hateful and uninformed remarks. You don't have a clue about the Bible especially since you never read it. I can assure that if you read it, it would read you. As for Jesus Christ, He is very much alive and the Holy Spirit lives in me. I made 180* turn in my life and it wouldn't have been possible without Christ. Don't worry Jayne you still have time to prove yourself wrong. If not, you will live in hell for eternity to think about how foolish you were not to give HIM a chance. Satan loves people like you because he's the father of lies, and you Jayne are a liar.

No, No, No. The biggest fight is State Law vs Federal Law and I'm getting upset that the right wing dogma continues to expand ever fight they fight as a principle that the states should be able to declare which personal liberties are allowed in their states. My opinion is that some liberties should be guaranteed in EVERY state in the union and some, but few, should be decided by the individual states, BECAUSE, an individual can't always just pack up and leave a crazy state if they go nuts and violate personal liberties, and visaversa, some people work for corporations that transfer them to other states and those families have NO CHOICE if they want to keep their income from that job, but to suffer the throws and nuts laws in that state. Give everyone some consistency in this great land please.

That Jonah guy is absurd – right wingers use just as many or more cliches – Frank Luntz makes a living disguising their ideology in ridiculous cliches – instead of paying a fair share of taxes they say it's wealth re-distribution. They are quick to say all liberals hate the rich. Defense of marriage means don't let gays marry. They re-name estate taxes into death taxes – etc. etc. etc. No one tends to hide behind cliches more than conservatives.

I tuned in to listen to the guest, not to labor through diatribe by Morgan. Larry King would interview – not abuse the guest. Why can't Morgan just pose a question and keep quiet!?

    Piers,
If we followed this Goldberg person's idea that the decision on gay marriage should be left up to the states
and applied it to the case of the civil rights movement, black people would still be riding in the back of the bus
in most southern states. The application of gay marriage or civil unions however he cares to define it needs
to be applied on a federal level so all rights (ie. federal tax law not only state) apply to each person
across the country. Another example, a gay couple that includes someone from abroud would never be able
to get married or have a civil union because immigration law occurs on a federal level not state. These two examples probably never occured or mattered to Mr. Goldberg because they are automatically afforded to him simply because he's straight

Piers – enjoy your show, watching the John Lovitz interview...please – shut the hell up and let the guest speak!!! We all know your probably a OWS Euro socialist whose answer to everything is tax, tax tax. Ironically we're all now witness to the results of that abysmal economic policy, which will hopefully wake up the other brain-dead half of the US population before November(doubtful). Ask Lovitz a question, then listen to his answer – from the few pieces of his answer it sounds as though you could learn from John.

He even said to you that you won't let him finish his answer
If you don't like what they say and cut them off, why not just ask your question and tell them what their answer is.
You do not know how to interview people and are very rude while you are doing it.

I don't agree w. Jonah but was interested enough in the definition of ideology that I looked in up on Wiki to see how it differed from my general understanding. I need some more time; however, I will say that I have thought that the conservatives were the masters of sloganeering. Need I say more than "Obamacare". So, it's not a discussion of the important issue of health care in this country, it simply becomes how upset some people are with Obama. It really annoys me, lets have a real discussion and not call each other names.

I also disagree with Jon Lovitz. Sorry, but I think anybody who has thought about our housing meltdown is aware that there is blame to go all the way around. As to the 1%, while the term was popularized by the occupy movement; it is the conservative side (Fox?) that came up with class warfare as a phrasing. Again it's not the simplest issue. Personally, I think that the job creation from the "1%" has been shown to be rather bogus at this point in time. And, those who have a great amount of money, also have the ability to hire phalanxes of accounts, lawyers, etc. When you're really in trouble is when you're salaried. I can go on and on but would suggest that it is worthwhile to do some research on this issue, many things are much more complicated than it sounds with these labels (the Buffet rule, etc.). Then, one can make up their own mind as to which party/representative will support your views.

Here is what I believe Jon Levitz was trying to say, but was rudely ignored. When the rich pay 15% on capital gains (so called Buffet rule), that is 15% on money that they earned. Say they earned $1M in 1 year. They have to pay taxes on that initial $1M or $380,000.00 to the government (38%). Then they take what is left over, $620,000.00, take out say $50,000.00 for expenses like house, car, electric, food, gas, etc., and invest $570,000 the following year. Assume it was a great year and they made 20% or $114,000.00 (maybe Buffet). They then pay 15% on that $114,000.00 or $17,100.00 to the government. They take out their $50,000 for expenses leaving $46,900 to invest with the intial $570,000.00 for a total of $616,900. Say the next year, it is dismal and they lose 10% or $61,690.00. Well you can't pay taxes when you don't make any money, right? So no taxes, but you still have to take out $50,000 for expenses so you take that from the capital or the $555,210 left, which reduces your investment which now your capital is $505,210.00. This is a simple example and investing can become very complex, thus the need for lawyers and accountants, which you have to pay, which is not inexpensive. That cost is not calculated in. I simplified and there are truly more costs not identified.

So to summarize, in 3 years, the rich earned $1M dollars initially, gained $114,000, lost $61,690, paid $397,100 in taxes, paid $100,000 in expenses to live and now has $505,210.00. To keep up with expenses and not get another job, the investment must make 10% every year and not lose any money until the rich dies and there is 0 inflation. Most likely, the rich needs to get another job to continue to spend $50,000 a year on expenses. This is very simplified.

I'll be surprised if many read through this entirely, it is much easier to say "let's hate the rich. They just keep making money and don't pay their fair share of taxes." In this example, they pay more in taxes on average than the average American makes a year. But how did they make the intial $1M?

Jeff – Mitt and many rich manage to pay less than 14% with deductions and tax shelters. And if they hide money in the caymans or switzerland for instance, then they pay even less.

I always loved Larry King and watched him for years...then along comes Piers, and I understand hes not Larry and I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the longer I watch Piers the more he cuts his interviews off before they can even answer a question.....he gets mad when people don't answer a question the way he sees it, hes rude and when the interviewer doesn't agree with him he starts screaming like a spoiled child. The network obviously sees this as an entertainment show only as there is definitely no journalism or freedom of speech on this show anymore. In the interview with Goldberg.... He was terrible, and very very smug and snobbish and obvious he is Pro-Obama...and has an agenda of his own.

John Lovitz is clearly a fool but even a fool can make Piers look like a moron. As a Brit living in the USA I am offended that this idiot is considered intelligent enough to replace Larry. Any half witted journalist would have ripped Lovitz to shreds, instead he ran rings around Morgan. Wake up CNN, the emporer has no clothes, Morgan left the UK in disgrace and he's not capable of doing the job you gave him. Look beyond the British accent, we can all do that, get rid of him before he causes you more embarrassment.

We watched Larry King for years. He practiced humility & respect and he let his guests talk whether he agreed with what they said or not. A good interviewer is skilled in asking the right questions to illicit candid answers & then listens to the answer. You wasted time badgering Jonah Goldberg & Jon Levitz. They had to defend themselves before they could respond to questions. It's obvious you are pro-Obama but if you can't be objective & withhold your opinions then this job is not for you. Do you even understand the democracy & capitalism that made USA the country it is? Are you a voting citizen of this country? We don't want to hear your opinions, we want to listen to your guests.

Morgan is exactly what I expect from a "news" network that has been sliding downhill for the last 6 or 7 years. He's not taken seriously in Britain and now he's brought his mediocrity to North America. He misses Tony Blair. A lot. So he's replaced him with Obama. He's not exactly subtle in his hero worship of Obama and anybody that even remotely disagrees with the left, he has a hissy fit. Morgan should also get it through his thick British skull that it isn't a trait of a good interviewer to constantly interrupt his guests. Morgan isn't even ready for the farm team, never mind prime time.

I am Canadian and Catholic. I have gay friends and think they should be treated like everyone else – with respect and kindness. But that does not mean I need to agree with Gay marriage. To me, what God teaches comes first, not what mainstream media sides with. Clearly, the Bible believes marriage is between man and woman, sanctified by God. The Bible also states that man should not lay with man. Because marriage is sanctified by God, I also do not believe in all of the divorce we have now. But what gets me with Pierce and his pro gay marriage supporters, is that if you don't agree with them, then there is something wrong with you. Hypocrites – you want to be treated fairly then allow what others feel to be heard and respected as well. You say ignorance is the reason people don't agree with Gay marriage – what are we ignorant about? I think you have that reversed – it is your ignorance of Bible teachings that is the issue here.
