Mitch Winehouse on Blake Fielder-Civil: "He introduced her [Amy] to Class A drugs, and she took to it like a duck to water"

Coming up this evening, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes Mitch Winehouse for a candid and revealing discussion on his late daughter, her life, and her struggles with substance abuse.

As the one-year anniversary of Amy Winehouse's death nears, her father has written a book entitled "Amy, My Daughter," in which he touches upon her final studio album, "Back to Black." Largely inspired by her rocky relationship with ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, the record won five Grammy awards in 2008. In the book, however, Winehouse is hardly complimentary of his daughter's musical muse:

"It occurred to me recently that one of the biggest-selling UK albums of the 21st century so far is all about the biggest low-life that God ever put breath into," he writes in the memoir.

After listening to the host read the passage tonight, Winehouse stands by his story:

"That's right, I did say that. And it's true. Amy was besotted with Blake for a period of time, and his way of showing how much he loved her, was to – in his own words – he introduced her to Class A drugs and she took to it like a duck to water."

The singer and songwriter died as a result of alcohol poisoning in July of 2011 at the age of 27, and though her father doesn't hold Fielder-Civil directly responsible for the death, he feels his daughter's ex-husband is not without fault:

"Of course, I don't blame Blake for Amy's death. That was just a terribly unfortunate accident," he tells Piers Morgan. "But he has to be responsible, for the fact that he introduced her to Class A drugs. Whether she would have found her way to Class A drugs without him, who knows? But he stood up and said it was him, so, that's who we point the finger at."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, then tune in this evening as Winehouse reveals precisely how much contact he's had with Fielder-Civil since his daughter's passing.

  1. Can't Help But Wonder

I can't find anything I disagree with in regards to Mr. Winehouse's position towards Mr. Civil's. It's notable that at least Amy's ex-husband HAS accounted for the role he played. However; I also noted that Mr. Winehouse hasn't really delved on the type of FATHER he'd deem HIMSELF in regards to his DAUGHTER. If he's so adamant about Blake being 'the biggest breathing lowlife'---I Can't Help But Wonder what sort of father he was while raising Amy. A woman's choice in a man is a DIRECT REFLECTION of her relationship with her father. No....Mr. Winehouse clearly doesn't appear to be (or have ever been) a "Class A" substance abuser......but I Can't Help But Wonder if something extremely TOXIC in Amy's upbringing is what so-inclined her to a person of Blake's caliber. I'm gonna need more than Elementary-school-based Disney and Boarding Academy Professional portraits too, okay? Thanks.

Amy was a remarkable singer, but you can't blame her hubby and the drugs. She overdosed on alcohol. Who gave her the first taste of that. Maybe Daddy dearest? Alcohol is the worst drug out there, killing half a million a year. My Dad was hooked on alcohol. Terrible stuff!
