Tammy Duckworth on her opponent Joe Walsh: "He's the one who's been bringing up the military service"

Tonight, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed Lt. Col.Tammy Duckworth for a candid interview on fighting for her country, politics in America and her race for Congress. Duckworth is running in Illinois for the eighth Congressional District seat against opponent Rep. Joe Walsh. Last week Walsh said Duckworth should stop talking about her service on the campaign trail.

"I dont mind if he attacks me personally," said Duckworth. "But when he says a veteran is not a true hero if they speak about their military service he's now discouraging 23 million veterans across this great nation from speaking about their service at a time when young vets coming home need to be talking about the leadership skills they developed in the military."

Duckworth also noted that she has already been "fighting him [Walsh] on the issue" and that Walsh has been the one "bringing up the military service."

"He's the one that challenged me, you know, invited me to a town hall meeting during a weekend when I actually have National Guard duty. So, I've been talking about the issues."

Watch the clip and listen to the interview, as Duckworth explains who is really talking about the issues.

He is correct. She is no Hero. She survived an attack. Her buddies are the ones who did something. They saved her. You are wrong Pierce. You only want viewers.

Tammy has said since the beginning that she was NOT the hero, that the one's who saved her were the hero's. Our VA and government, since they so screwed up returning Vietnam vets, learned one lesson concerning a way to help overcome PTSD early. The experts tell soldiers who were in combat to talk about their experiences and it helps. Now we have an expert no military experience Walsh telling vets if they talk about their experiences, it's wrong and it makes them somehow non-patriotic, only true heroes would ever talk about combat experiences. the guy's a nut!

Deadbeat Joe has no right to declare who is or is not a hero until he has put on the uniform and risked everything in the name of service to country. LT COL Duckworth is an American HERO. Deadbeat Joe is a coward hiding behind his empty words and promises built on whatever values that suit him at that moment in time. The State of Illinois deserves what they get if they choose to put this Senator McCarthy wannabe back in office.

So If I go wear a uniform and get shot, that makes me a hero? Hold on, I'm gonna go do that right now.

She's a hero because she voluntarily signed up to defend her country. Did you do that?

Real heroes don't brag about what they done in times of war for gain. She knows she's done this. It's like celebrities who think they should get special treatment only cause their famous.

Colt, you will note, I hope, she has not bragged about her service, nor has she withheld her thoughts from any conversation entered into concerning the same. She has said the real heros were the soldiers who rescued/saved her. She has said that speaking of ones military service is a healing thing. This I believe is right and just and smart, not only for the soldier, but for the other party engaged in the conversation.

Im floored that Congressman Joe Walsh would say something negative about a woman who has served our country and then use her injury against her in his campaign. My heartfelt thanks to Lt Tammy Duckworth for her service to our country and for your desire to make the US a better place for all of us to live. Best of luck in your campaign.

Your twisting his words around. He's not attacking her that she got hurt, he's attacking her for bragging about it. there's a difference!

It appears HE is using her.. let's be honest here, war record and being disabled in the line of duty against her more than she's speaking about it. How many speeches online can you find during this campaign that she's bragged about having lost her limbs? You'll be hard pressed to find one where that's the main point of her conversation. Spare me you're feigned outrage against a United States veteran simply because she's of a different political affiliation than yourself.

So you are saying that vets like McCain or JR Martinez should not talk about their sacrifices or service? Or is it because she is a woman? It is important for vets who have suffered and sacrificed and picked themselves up to move forward to talk about it an let those coming after them that they will survive and can have a normal life. My son has been in 8 explosions in two tours in Iraq and has many issues to over come and it is helpful for him to know there is a future.

No doubt Walsh would be talking up his military service, only problem is he doesn't have any. To make a sweeping statement that hero's don't talk about themselves is absurd.

No Joe Walsh wouldn't. People who make statements like this have not done their own independent Research. While the "Think Progress" hit piece on Joe did stir up a hornets nest, you can go on youtube and look where Congressman Joe Walsh thanks vets long before the "New 8th" was ever drawn and before Ms. Duckworth became a candidate.

The fact that you see vets here posting, like myself, who are talking about how Ms Duckworth is conducting herself speaks volumes. The fact that CNN didn't even remotely try to present the otherside also speaks volumes.

This was a horrible job by CNN and its flying around the 8th district now. Its good to see people call out hit pieces like this.

This was NOT an was nothing more than a STAGED HATCHET JOB against TEA Party Congressman Joe Walsh! The commentary was a complete fabrication, and distortation of what was said at that meeting! At EVERY occasion Congressman Joe Walsh addresses an audience...he begins with recognition of military veterans in attendance, and praises them for their service, regardless of political party! As a veteran who supports Joe 100% I was appalled at this LIMEY Piers Morgan telling my Congressman to ZIP IT! Done completely with CNN...they are going the way of the liberals/progressives/socialist lunatics on MSNBC.

Some NERVE...this Limey PIERS MORGAN telling my U.S. Congressman to ZIP IT! CNN and Piers Morgan owes the American people from the Illinois 8th Congressional District an apology!

He owes no one an apology. He works and pays taxes here. He may not be able to vote as many Americans have the right, yet do not exercise it, but that does not immune him from free speech. He did ask Ms. Duckworth if she was prepared to stop the military rhetoric is she believed she had been guilty of it to give him issues only to counter her with. Piers has every right to speak to both sides of an issue no differently than any tax paying resident of this country.

I believe he's identified her as using her service to our country as a way to flag away her opinion of issues. It's a great smoke a mirrors game he's playing at. He should be ashamed of himself. I don't witness our other military veteran politicians being mute about their service. It's part and parcel who they are. John McCain ring a bell. It was on many commercials at the time. It was something to consider as a presidential candidate.

NO Colt you don't get it. Tammy put herself in harms way and was wounded. The only Joe "Purple Heart" Walsh could be hurt is reaching for his wallet for child payments, falling off of his bike or being burned from birthday cake candles. It's about talking about something you have no knowledge about i.e. being in a dangerous life-threatening situation.

PS Joe Chavez you don't get it either

That makes no sense at all. Are you saying everyone who doesn't serve lives in a basement? What does that say about you then? You should think before you get butthurt and start talking.

Please tell me what part "Veterans for Joe Walsh" don't get? I'm waiting to hear this...A LIE IS A LIE PAL...sick and tired of these LIBERALS/PROGRESSIVES/SOCIALISTS and their agenda to ruin our country! We live in Illinois...there is no mystery to us why our country, that is governed by OBAMA and his Washington DC Cronies, resembles the incompetent, corrupt, bankrupt, and leaderless condition of our state! Tammy Duckworth is just a rubber stamping political hack for Obama...we have enough of those thank you!

Tammy Duckworth has already shown herself to be a proven failure at her fomer VA post. She is seriously mistaken with the idea that somehow her valor issues are also "qualifying" for a congressional seat in Washington DC. In this regard, Joe Walsh has it right. Tammy tries to have it all by her own admission: who needs a missing in action congressperson who is still on active duty?? The VA disability claims system is in ruins and both her and Eric Shinseki had a full term opportunity to fix what is broken. Instead they both went on world tour, so it seems, called "It's All About ME!" Then she resigned and ran for Congress. What the hell isall THAT ?? Go home, Tammy Duckworth and move on with your life in the aviation industry where they need you. -- Sue Frasier, Army 1970, with service at Fort Rucker, Alabama home of the Army Aviation School.

Yes, go home Tammy. I'd much rather we vote in a dead-beat dad who was busy vacationing with his girlfriend while skipping out on child support than someone who made an incredible sacrifice while serving this country.

(I can't understand how anyone can support a guy who failed the biggest fiscal responsibility anyone can have on this planet who then has the nerve to actually lecture Americans on fiscal responsibility.)

As a disabled Vietnam Vet I applaud Tammy Duckworth. There is an extreme fringe in the Republican Party that is just plain out of touch. Joe Walsh is one of them. He has a history of failing to take responsibility for his children's welfare for starters. Even former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has said that neither his father nor Ronald Reagan would make it in today's Republican Party. Sad, so sad! I'm an independent outraged voter. I'm fed up with the lost of humanity and decency that some people in this country are now expressing. Some people are expressing the opinion of hooray for me and to hell with everyone else. I blame this on our politicians. The worst thing that happened to our country was ending the draft. The spirit of patriotism, team work, discipline, personal responsibility, and esprit de corps was always taught to one in the military. It was working class vets from World War II that built our prosperity and national strength after that war. Those vets through combat, learned the importance of coming together and working for the betterment of our Nation. Today's generation is lost in their selfishness. I rest my case.

Listening to Duckworth rag on and on about her military service is like going out on a first date and listening to the person talk about nothing else but their es boyfriend/girlfriend when you want to get to know more about them instead. Duckworth has spent so much time in the military arena that it would be better for all of us if she simply STAYED THERE! Her heart is in that area and NOT in representing the voters of Illinois District 8 as she has proven time and again with her continued absence and availability. She had finally agreed to four debates with Walsh but after the first one you never heard zip from her again until she was prodded by Wolf Blitzer to come back and debate on the air. We are all still waiting for her to come out in the district and debate. The heck with these TV interviewers. Come out and take questions by the voters in the District which WON'T be about your military record because most of us don't really give a crap since it has nothing to do with the economy, jobs, budgets, immigration, securing our borders, etc.

I couldn't of said it any better! It's like a citizen asking "How are you going to fix our jobs, schools, taxes?" and she responds, "I got injured while serving in the military! " does that make any sense? The answer is NO.
