Clips from Last Night: Michael Moore on gun control, Trayvon Martin, and the comments of hip-hop artist Ice-T

On Tuesday, filmmaker and director Michael Moore returned to "Piers Morgan Tonight," bringing along his trademark blend of social commentary, and candid insight.

Joining the program primarily to discuss gun control on the heels of last week's deadly incident in Aurora, CO, the Academy Award winner related the movie theater shooting to the ongoing Trayvon Martin case.

Addressing the "irony" of George Zimmerman quoting Florida's "stand your ground" law in the Martin case, Moore surmised "You could equally argue that Trayvon Martin may well have been doing the same thing."

"Let's say George Zimmerman's right when he says that Trayvon Martin was trying to kill him," suggested Tuesday's guest. "But it was George Zimmerman who was told by the police to quit stalking this boy. And - and he was the one who was committing the infraction against the law by disobeying the police and going after Trayvon Martin. Doesn't Trayvon Martin actually have the right to kill George Zimmerman if George Zimmerman is stalking him and - and the police have told him not to stalk him?"

A decade since "Bowling for Columbine" – his groundbreaking 2002 documentary film exploring the causes for the massacre at Columbine High School – Moore also addressed recent remarks by actor and hip-hop artist Ice-T.

Being interviewed by U.K.'s Channel 4 just hours after the movie massacre in Colorado, Odafin "Fin" Tutuola of NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" said he sees no potential link between stronger gun legislation, and a reduction in gun deaths:

"Nah. Not really really. You know what I'm saying, if somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don't need a gun to do it."

Moore had a different perspective:

"That part that Ice-T said about that reducing them wouldn't reduce it. That's been proven," he told Piers Morgan. "If you reduce the guns and the ammo, you'll reduce the murders."

As the 54-year-old musicians went on to add, "You can strap explosives on your body, they do that all the time," Moore insisted that was another issue entirely:

"Somebody strapping a bomb on themselves, that's a whole different animal that we have to deal with in these times."

Watch the clips, and listen to the interviews, as "Piers Morgan Tonight" landed a rare interview with one of America's most outspoken and influential voices.

Piers Morgan and CNN are to be congratulated for a consistently perceptive and timely show. Gun control is a surprisingly divisive issue, made more so by the efforts of the NRA. Although it wouldn't have achieved much to bring up the NRA's role, I was surprised it was not discussed, except implicitly. Nonetheless, congratulations on a string of great programs!

Gun control again? Two days after Aurora 14 (fourteen) people were killed in Texas by a FORD F250 pickup truck and it's driver Where is Piers Morgan and Michael Moore's opinion on that killing? People -especially drunk people, kill innocent folks with their vehicles. People even attack and kill police officers with their vehicles. Four or five times as many people are being killed by vehicles every year compared to gun deaths. Where is the "vehicle control" issue? Certainly not on mainstream media since they getting paid billions of dollars by the makers of those killing machines. Every week almost THOUSAND PEOPLE die violent deaths in car wrecks. We bear those deaths almost siently. Less than half a dozen people killed in a vehicular homicide -yes, people kill people not their vehicles, is not even mentioned in the news. We have to live with vehicles, guns, knives, baseball bats -and whatever other things people use to kill other people. Just live with it all.

OK – sorry there are laws for Drinking and Driving – it is outlawed! And I am sure it has saved many lives...even just one is enough to improve owning guns, and stop automatic weapons.

Exactamundo. Almost 33,000 people died from car crashes last year and all you hear are crickets. The differerence is you cannot protect yourself from oppression with a Toyota Prius. Our politicians know this and also know there are enough voters out there to buy into the garbage about gun control and safety without guns. Remeber the police are only minutes away when seconds count.

Surely, Daniel, you are not suggesting that mass shootings (and there have been 154 since Columbine) are the price Americans have to pay to protect the 2nd Amendment??

The accident in Texas is a whole different animal – the truck was being used to smuggle illegal aliens and the driver had an accident. The truck's driver did not deliberately plow into a crowd of people, killing 15 people as a result. And how twisted is it that you cannot drink and drive but you can drink and operate a loaded gun?

France has had as bloody a history as the United States, and yet why is it that the same gun-loving fervor does not exist there? Nor does it exist in Canada, where, trust me, the early settlers needed their arms to survive every bit as much as the early American settlers did. The debate about assault weapons or the right to carry a concealed weapon does not even factor into Canadian politics. BTW – the article about gun control in Canada in the latest NRA magazine is propoganda at best, and pure crap, at its worst.

What are Americans so afraid of? What boogeyman is going to creep into our windows at night? We should be more concerned about the fact that our young people increasingly treat education as though it's kryptonite, with fewer and fewer students embracing math and science. America CANNOT be great if its population cannot read beyond a Gr 8 level, let alone do basic calculus. Being overtaken by massive foreign investment is a greater worry for me than the prospect of military invasion by a foreign power. If your children aren't excelling at school and taking their education seriously, then you'd better invest in 'Chinese for Dummies', because one day you are going to wake up and find that a Chinese family has purchased your mortgage while you were watching the Superbowl and you're going to have to find another place to live....

morristownmom, apparently you need to learn the laws a little better. you said and i quote "you cannot drink and drive, but you can drink and operate a gun." to the best of my knowledge it is against the law anywhere in america to drink and carry a gun let alone drink and shoot a gun. it is unfortunate that certain people cannot follow the rules and remain cool calm and collected. that is the way the world works and it is all because the gov't is to easy on criminals. strengthen the laws on criminals crime will go down. you steal, we cut off your hand. that way you cant steal. you beat your wife and kids, we tie you up and let bubba beat you. you kill someone, we kill you. i guarantee stricter laws, more law abiding citizens.

Guns are a way for people to protect themselves from the tyranny of government. If the government illegally decides to begin taking the rights of citizens away, how can the people protect themselves against such a government if they have no weapons to do so? Look at the news around the world. People are in a constant struggle with radical government bodies and the only way they can protect themselves is with guns... Syria, Egypt ring any bells?

Michael Moore is no better than James Holmes. They are both attention grabbing idiots and neither one of them should be allowed air time. But if you try to shut up Michael Moore, he will quote the first amendment.

If anyone remembers your history, the second amendment was created by the founding fathers to protect citizens from foreign and domestic governments.

What is worse than a madman shooting a gun in a darkened, gas filled, crowded theater? A frightened unskilled vigilante firing blindly in the general directions from which he believed the shots came..... and maybe a third moron unable to determine who started the shooting firing at them both....and we could add a fourth person from another theater rushing into the room and deciding that he is going to save the day! With a little bad luck, we could have multiplied the casualties by a multiple of five.

No matter what you say about a young man who can no longer defend himself – and my own children have been guilty of at least one of the offenses that you list and they are very white, full time employed, and have NEVER been arrested or threatened with arrest for it – none of these are death penalty crime and some of them are not crimes at all. There was no justification for Mr. Zimmerman provoking this situation. We hire and train law enforcement officials who know how to handle young men carrying soft drinks and talking on cell phones....they leave them alone.

Mr. Zimmerman frightened the kid, and the kid lashed out (granted...not a bright thing to do) and the kid died because Mr. Zimmerman didn't like the kid's reaction. Mr. Zimmerman should go to prison for the balance of his life.

Listen to the 911 tape that George made he is lying about what happened.

    @ 2:08 George said, "he's running."

    @2:11 His car door opens

    @2:14 his door slams shut

@2:26 Operator says, we don't need you to do that. had he listened

@2:39 He again says "he RAN!" The is the second time he said TM was running away from GZ. Not too him away from him.

@2:42 He would have been back to his car. But where is GZ?

@2:42 You hear a click it's the back door patio of "Jeremy"

@2:46 You distinctively hear GZ knocking on the back door of a home.
@ 3:07 The resident met him at the back. The back porch light came on it was never on before, but in the re enactment it was on at exactly the time line on GZ 911 call...
Keep in mind GZ. He sought and waited for TM to come walking down the side walk between Twin Creeks and Retreat View Cicle.

Now TM thought he lost the crazy guy because GZ was driving so TM didn't thinking he was not in any danger down the path way to his home. GZ is on the back porch of the side too TM home. GZ and possibly Jeremy and who ever else was out of their tried to detain TM.

I remember one of your early interviews on CNN with Donald Trump and was so disappointed with your lack of journalistic integrity. Watching you pandering to Mr Trump reminded me of a middle school girl with her first crush on her middle age teacher.
Then yesterday I watch you encouraging Michael Moore to continue his dribble. During his hallucinated filled rants he wandered across three (3) universes and five (5) solar systems. Unfortunately as you are aware he was not lucid.
These “fluff” interviews need to stop, Larry King was a professional, it is sad that CNN allowed you to follow in his steps.
Why not invite Ted Nugent back to the set and have an intelligent debate on current gun laws and there lack of enforcement. My guess is that you are afraid to have a real debate and discussion.
Lest you forget the reason that America is no longer a British Colony is that the original settlers were able to defend themselves against the red Coats. Then 150 years later the United States has to rescue your United Kingdom as your government chose to bankrupt the military allowing Adolf Hitler to come to power. Your military was training with fake wooden toy guns while a tyrant was running amok across Europe.
My family and I have lived outside the United States for the past 8-years currently residing in Singapore and previously in China. I grew up in Wisconsin enjoying my rights to hunt and fish. I am proud to hold a conceal and carry permit in my home state of Texas. I consider myself left of center.
A couple of weeks ago I was back in my home town of Houston Texas visiting family and friends. I was so proud of my youngest daughter, age 9, as she asked me to take her to the shooting range for the 1st time. Both of my daughters are trained and understand how to handle and use firearms. Individuals are accountable to be responsible with their given rights. If you choose to openly educate your children on firearms, alcohol and drugs they will reward you by making the right choices. It is not to prohibit but to use responsibly.
What you fail to understand is that in America we have the right to protect our family, friends and home from those that wish to cause us harm. Due to the sensationalist journalism and the reality shows becoming common place in the United States you are promoting a fringe element to act out inappropriately to claim their 15-minutes of fame. Unfortunately, you are seeking rating and tweets vs. journalistic integrity.
I would be happy to join your show and educate both you and your audience.

Just like we did in the late 1700's. We did it and we are all better off fighting tyranical corporate infested governments controlled by large banks hell-bent on population control, without guns. We should do it by learning a classy british accent, that is true power.

Search Youtube for "Discovery: DeeDee's (Trayvon's Girlfriend) Full Statement to the State Attorney."

According to DeeDee, Zimmerman was following Trayvon and she heard Trayvon say "Get off! Get off!" before the phone line went dead. Therefore, Trayvon was assaulted first by Zimmerman.

Search Youtube for "Trayvon Martin moving Scream for Help".

The screams for help in that 911 call was a "MOVING" scream. That means the two were moving from one place to another during the struggle. You cannot hear any obvious hits, thumps or bumps during the struggle.

Only one thing causes a piercing scream of pain and cries for help while the two MOVED from one place to another.

Zimmerman did a HAMMER LOCK on Trayvon. Search Youtube for "HAMMER LOCK FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SECURITY".

Trayvon said "Get off!" because Zimmerman made a move to grab Trayvon's arm to detain him.

Examples of REAL LIFE hammer lock arm twisting.

Search Youtube for "Discovery: John's Statement to the State Attorney".

John, the witness did not hear hits, thumps or bumps during the struggle. What was the point of this interview with John by the State Attorney?

Zimmerman claimed that his head was being banged repeatedly on the concrete.

When people have a physical fight, you hear hits, bumps, thumps, etc. If you hear screams only, that person is being restrained.

Like what the other poster said, "GZ and possibly Jeremy and who ever else was out of their tried to detain TM."

Search for an example of sounds made when someone is being hit vs. when the man was being restrained in Youtube at "Police beat up a mentally-ill homeless man to death".

Obama has had 17 million more Americans fall into poverty under his watch, continues a Vietnam strategy in Afganistan and has not made a single arrest for the 2008 economic meltdown. Search Youtube for "George Zimmerman's ACCOMPLICE !!! CAUGHT ON TAPE!!!"

The following below is transcript from ZIMMERMAN'S REENACTMENT.

After I shot him, he like sat up.
He was on top of me like this. I shot him.
I didn't think I hit him. Coz he sat up and said, oh you got me. You got it. You got me. You got it. Something like that.
So I thought he was just saying I knew you have a gun now. I heard it. I'm giving up.
So I don't know if I push him off me. Or fell off me..
Either way, I got on top of him. Push his arms apart.
I don't remember how I got on top of him. I'm sorry.
I got on his back. I move his arms apart. Because when he was repeatedly hitting me in the face and the head, I thought he had something in his hands. So I just I move his hands apart.
Yes, face down and I was on his back.
Then somebody came with a flashlight. And I thought it was the police officer.
So I said, Are you the police? I still had my handgun on.
I told him, Are you the police and my gun was right here. (right side)
He goes, No, no, I'm not. I am calling the police.
Don't call the police. Help me, restrain this guy.
And He said, I am calling the police. I am calling the police.
And I said I already called. They're on their way. They are coming. I need your help.

So did the police INTERVIEW THIS ACCOMPLICE OF ZIMMERMAN, who scrambled at running from the scene after the gunshot as seen in the raw Clubhouse surveillance videos?

CNN Transcripts: Trayvon was found dead - his body was found face down in the ground with his arms UNDER him.

It appears as if someone helped Zimmerman restrain Trayvon.

I saw your interview with Michael Moore. Mr. Moore has influence with his peer movie makers. What has Mr. Moore done to get guns (and acts of violence) off of TV and movie screens? If Mr. Moore wants to be an activist, he should start with the Hollywood establishment.

Piers,Come to Rural America, and you will understand why there will always be semi-automatic weapons. I can take a 30.06 caliber Deer Rifle and put a bigger clip in it, and now you basically have an assault rifle. I will turn 49 years old this year, and in 1980, when I was a Sophmore in highschool i had a gun rack in the window of my old chevy pickup, and there was a shot gun and a lever action model 94 Winchester. Now days, these kids even pull on the school parking lot with that same set up they will get suspended for 30 days ! Just for the record, I no longer Hunt, I play Golf so all my fire arms are gone. But I cherish the fact that I can go and purchase a firearm any time I want to.

Fortunately for you we Yanks are a bit more civilized toward you British commoners. Before and during the War of Independence your public decry to disarm the common people of this country would have gotten you shot or hung on the spot. You would be considered a spy, a British agent with the intent of demoralizing our country in league with your royal masters in london. Today it's called espionage. Government can and do change direction overnight. Go home and start a campaign to ban backpacks in the tube. You'd save a hell of a lot more innocent lives...

Guns are bad but how are law abiding citizens supposed to defend themselves when someone does something like this, wait for the police to arrive??? Gun control laws are notoriously ineffective this guy hand the guns legally but what if he decided to use the homemade grenades that were found in his house. Here's an interesting fact, since the FDA approval of Prozac (a drug that has a side effect of pyscosis) in December 1987 there have been more the 5 spree shootings per 10 years in the US, before this that number was below 2. Gun control laws have also become stricter in this time period and spree shootings are on the rise. Would a total gun ban work? Do abortion bans, marijuana bans, alcohol bans work?

Greetings from Germany Mr. Morgan! I enjoy all of your interviews, even though they air at 03:00 German time – Much more so than Larry King; ( My own Personal prejudice of an interview Mr. King Broadcast Worldwide, a few years back – with Nancy Grace – completely disrespecting an innocent mans' Wife and Family about a missing child; COMPLETE DISRESPECT and NO apology afterwards – Please NEVER do the same. )
Your interview about the Gun/ Weapon issue in the U.S. is another addition of many and done quite well on your part, different viewpoints, angles of perception. The question Mr. Moore seemed to keep bring up with, "Why only in the U.S.?", really dumbfounded me. It proves, to me, that the Media is hiding the Truth to scare Americans into some sort of Gun Control measure in the near future. I am an American Citizen, living in Germany for the past 14 years and I can assure you that we have the same, give or take a few, violent incidents with Weapons, even in the usually quiet nearby City of Siegen, here. In the past 6 years, in Germany, we have seen an influx of East Europeans move into Germany. The local Police T.V. show – Who look for Criminals, air Sketches, Photos of Suspects – Have literally gone from, "UNKNOWN" Suspect to 85% "Suspect/s East European". Believe me, or not, America is not the only Country feeling the Heat of random misfortune with the Lunatic Fringe, in today's Society. To get to the, " Meat of the Matter ", on the " Why? ", continually asked by Mr. Moore.....It is quite simple, America has been involved in too many Ongoing Wars, needless to mention a collapse of Wall Street...Loss of Life Savings...Loss of Homes...More War...Continual Warnings from the Media on Terror code RED-YELLOW-GREEN (?)...add in the Fact that most people Outside of America, no longer Trust and Borderline Hate what the U.S. Government has done and still is doing since 9/11....
America is a Land on the Edge of it's seat right now, it's on Burnout. I miss America at times, Family and Friends...but I can Honestly say with a straight face, the America i once knew, died a few years back. In any Society, any Land on this Earth – The more Stress you place on a population, the more acts of random violence will occur. How do you control Violence, or better to say Lower Violent incidents? Lower Stress. God Bless and Good Luck to America and the rest of the World. – Steve B.

Any city that welcomes law breakers should be refused any state and federal tax dollars. Period. Let them fix their own streets and build and maintain their own highways. Isnt that what they did to Arizona when they began to protect themselves against illegal aliens. Boycott Baltimore should be the motto.

Why is it liberals refuse to look at all the data which indicates the cities, states and population areas where guns are strictly regulated have the highest murder rates and violent crimes. Many with illegally procurred guns. On the other hand cities, states and population areas with more gun owners, especially ones with concealed carry permits, have the lowest murder and violent crime rates. Its simple...when the criminals know or suspect the people are packing heat they will not try to rob, kill or commit other crimes against someone. Criminals are cowards not idiots. Pleeease review data on the FBI website. Look up true stories about the armed citizens who protect themselves every day. More people are saved very year by personal gun ownership than get killed by criminals. Statistics do not lie.

Some good points made in this interview.
Here's a recent story I would like to add:

Tulsa 3-year-old shoots self with parents' gun, police say

    Published: 7/24/2012 10:43 PM
    Last Modified: 7/25/2012 8:50 AM

A 3-year-old Tulsa girl accidentally shot herself in the leg with her parents’ handgun Tuesday night, police said.

The child had gone into her parents’ bedroom in the 8900 block of East Marshall Street by herself before the shooting occurred just before 10 p.m., police said. They did not know immediately whether the gun had been secured.

The girl shot herself in the upper thigh and was in serious condition, but the wound didn’t appear to be life-threatening, Capt. Karen Tipler said.

Police were still investigating late Tuesday, and the family’s names were not released.

Tipler said that "the parents have definitely learned a lesson about loaded firearms in the house."

worldcares, This is a serious problem for certain. Responsible gun ownership is imperative. I just can't understand why gun related tragedies like this always take the headlines, yet no one is insisting that we ban cell phones because kids and adults abuse them while driving and kill far more of our children than guns. Perhaps we should even ban automobiles. Why don't we ban nuclear weapons in the US also? Our enemies would never attack us then would they? Could it be that it's the GOVERNMENT that fears it's own people owning guns? I wonder why an HONEST government would even care! OUR government; not honest? Heaven forbid...

      Thanks worldcares. Here's my contribution:

From NY Post article July 29, 2012

Gun violence erupted again this evening as six people — including a 2-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy — were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn, law enforcement sources said.

The victims were struck near Rockaway and Riverdale avenues in Brownsville shortly after 7 p.m. when people playing a dice game on the street were targeted, the sources said.

Michael Prince, the father of the wounded toddler, Ariyanna Prince, was shot as he heroically protected his child from the gunfire.

“He was trying to shield the baby when the shooting started,” said the child’s grandmother, Leteria Hinton.

I have to disagree with Michael on this one. Mr. Holmes could've run up and down the aisles with a Samurai sword or throwing explosives (he did have 30 improvised explosive devices in his apartment.). And what about Alaska, Arizona or Texas, why didn't this happen there? It also seems that the 3 major gun related incidents that occurred recently were carried out by "students" and not gun fanatics, survivalists or extremists.

yeah we should ban all guns and ammntion then we can watch them get smuggeled in like the drugs and illegal alliens. Our government can't stop either one so I suppose they could keep guns away from the criminal element in this country. Why do you think we haven't been invaded by anyone; is it because they realize that they would have to contend with the greatest military plus an armed citizenry. I'd rather be terrorized by chickenchits in planes than by any person or country that comes to my door for my guns or tries to sell drugs to kids or prey on the weak. First off, GZ was told to stop following TM by a dispatcher, not the police. He did stop and was going back to his car to give police a correct address. Secondly TM wouldn't have the 'right' to kill GZ as he wasn't fearing for his life if he was going towards GZ to confront him. And thirdly, if Moore would just eat all the guns, the problem would be solved!

GZ killed a kid and it never should've happened. Period. What I'd like to see is a huge increase in the price of bullets...or a place for the Feds to log all purchases of guns and ammo...just like the medical world has in place...most all gets logged in and that's that. 58,000 people have been murdered in Mexico in the last five years. Thats more than the Vietnam War dead. Mexico has some of the most stringent gun laws in the Americas and look what it has brought them. Maybe if Americans could face the reality of everyday life without consuming illegal drugs there would be plenty of Mexicans alive today. There is a certain level of liberalism that borders on mental illness. It seems regardless how many facts, statistics logic and common sense is produced it just bounces off their heads. It's common sense to realize that if guns were prohibited for law abiding citizens then.only the thugs and wacko's would have them, and the innocent would be at the mercy of these ruthless criminals..And just say that the thugs had no guns,.. they would most certainly find other way to do their evil....Timothy McVeigh killed almost 200 and injured 800 with fertilizer. With gun control in certain areas here in the US and in other countries proves with out doubt that gun control does not work and will never work...Like the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920's....How did that work out ??

This guy could have rented a truck and driven it through the lobby and killed more people as did the guy in NC, and the theater WAS in a gun free zone. All more laws would do is make easier potential crime victims. Would you put a sign on your front door saying "gun free zone"'d be an easy home invasion victim. "It is better to unarm before a weapon is present than to wait until afterwards." i.e. Cuba, terriost, Iran. We have nuclear weapons as a deterrant...does that mean we don't stop others whomight wish to harm us from getting them? Of course not...And that is why we have this policy in place. And is a brillant policy to keep us from harm and it should be a domestic policy. Strong deterrent working with strong action...laws. If history has taught us anything...The act of inaction is the worst action of all. WWII,9/11, 5 mass murders in 5 years. I will not resign myself to repeating mistakes I have made in the past. All reasonable people and societies do this.

If a law were passed that would confiscate of the guns, honest and decent Americans would typically obey the law and turn theirs in while the criminals, the terrorists and the police would remain armed by hook or crook. This is a fact. The same logic would apply to Nukes. Honest and decent nations would dismantle their weapons, the criminals, terrorists and their military would also remain armed by hook or crook. If we could literally ban ALL the guns then I fully agree with you.

Should we have laws at all because it doesn't stop crime? Laws are deterrant and punishment. The very fact we have "Law Abiding Citizens" and jails prove this. If your point is a new law won't stop all violence, then I think your missing the point. No law has ever stop all, it just stops some. When we find an expose gap in our laws, we try to close that gap. It is absolutely my belief that when someone seeks mental health, their name should be entered into the Federal database within 72hrs. It is also my belief we have tighter red flags on bulk ammo purchases the same way we have wth guns over the internet. Neither of these two opinions effect the 2nd admendment. What it might effect is convenience. We all suffer the illegal acts of others.

James, the bottom line is that if you take away citizens guns the criminals will STILL HAVE THEM!! Are you proposing that the criminals will back off once they know we have no defense? There are countless gun laws on the books now; why don't we enforce the ones we already have? Could it be that our government isn't interested in regulating guns but taking them away from us? If someone wants to kill you or even a large group of people they WILL FIND A WAY. Knives, poison, bombs, automobiles, airplanes, box-cutters, baseball bats are all instruments of murder. Look how many people were murdered on 9/11 by a few nuts with only box-cutters or how many were killed by one man and a truck bomb in Oklahoma.

Why is it a pro gun activist always falls into the "disarming law abiding citizens" as a last resort in a I put up two opinions. Not one suggested disarming law abiding citizens....I guess you are for the mentally ill having access to guns and terriost having access to Americas Ammo...

Your show with Michael Moore pretending to solve the Colorado massacre with gun legislation is quite honestly offensive.
If you take away all the guns in the US, you'd still have the Oklahoma City bombing, the Tylenol poisoning, the unibomber, poisonous powder sent in the mail... and the list goes on.
The reason you don't understand why Americans want to own a gun is because you're British and you don't understand the Americans' need to be self-governing and free. After all – in America – we would never worship a family who's the richest in the country and allow them to pay no taxes – just because hundreds of years ago they were the head of state.
More gun control laws would never stop crazies from killing. They would find other ways to cause our community pain so that programs like you would show their pictures and talk about them for days.
In addition – you're comments on Trayvon Martin are 100% incorrect. The way this kid was behaving, including drugs and fighting – you could NEVER say for sure that he would be alive now if Zimmerman had not shot him. For all you know, he could have OD'd or got in a confrontation with a police officer and be dead now.
When you're given a stage on American TV, please be considerate and informed on what you say. Liberalism is great for initiating a debate – but if you truly want to solve problems, why not have opposing views that contribute to the conversation, instead of another liberal who takes things out of context to make his point?

I remember a long time ago when CNN used to be a news organization.
Remember Bernard Shaw? Now the entire channel is filled full of clownish
    amateurs pumping out blatant inaccuracies,
sensationalized non-stories, and this kind of contemptible saccharine glop.

FEAR is the problem. Why are Americans so afraid? What are Americans afraid of? Why are Americans living in suburbs more afraid than those in the inner city? Those who feel threatened run out and buy guns. Do guns make the fear go away? There is an underlying message of fear that pervades the culture. The message says, if you don't do this, you will be in danger of ... It's unspecific and unsettling. The message says, your neighbor who thinks differently than you do is "the enemy." And you can't be sure who exactly that is. You must be cautious about everyone. Why? You feel afraid. Even at church you are told that others are not like us. Fear of the other, fear of the unknown, fear of death. Weapons or banning weapons will not make such fears go away. "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

While gun deaths might be low in Britain, because of their very strict gun laws, their overall homicide rate is substantially higher than the German’s and the Swiss. The German’s privately own five times as many guns as the British, and the Swiss own nearly eight times as many. Murder is murder, by whatever means. The British are simply using different things to murder each other with.

What I can't understand with the gun debate is why the proponents of gun control only refer to the gun homicide numbers and not the overall homicide rates in these debates. By whatever means, murder is murder. The other night on CNN you interviewed Michael Moore and on the show he cited that gun crime in Britain was low because they have very strict gun laws. While this might be true, if you look at the overall homicide rate in Britain it is actually higher than Germany's and Switzerland's, and the same as the French. When you consider the French and the Germans privately own nearly 5 times as many firearms as the British, and the Swiss privately own nearly 8 times as many, you would think that these countries, if you are to believe the argument presented by gun control advocates, would have substantially higher homicide rates than Britain's, but they don't. According to UN statistics the annual homicide rate in Britain runs at 1.25 murders per 100,000 of the population, The rate in France is 1.35, Germany's is 0.8 and Switzerland's is 0.72. I find it hard to square the argument that more guns mean more homicides, I can't see the correlation. In the case of Britain, people are obviously just choosing different means to murder.

It is not that I expect Zuma to act out of his own sense of what is right. A sense of what is right has never been his srotng point. Self-preservation, on the other hand, is a major aspect of his political instinct. If he does not realise that his continued tolerance of the Shicekas of this world poses a threat to him, he really has lost the plot. Justice Malala
