Mitt Romney on gun legislation: "The effort to continue to look for some law to somehow make violence go away is missing the point"

Coming up tonight at 9 p.m., Piers Morgan finds himself on familiar soil, as the British-born television presenter continues to broadcast his program from London, home of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Though tonight brings the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXX Olympiad, it also marks one week since the deadly shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, CO.

Joined by Mitt Romney from the Royal Naval College in England, Morgan asks his guest about the political debate that has risen in the aftermath of the movie massacre:

"President Obama, last night, in a speech, made a big speech which on the face of it, and he’s getting credit for this, looked like he was moving to change things," says the host. "If he called you up and said 'look, we need to get together in the wake of this, as I’ve said, the worst ever shooting, we need to get together, do a compromised deal, that just makes it more difficult for people like this to evade the system,' would you at least, in principle, be happy to have that conversation?"

Addressing gun control, which has quickly become one of the most polarizing issues in the country, the former Massachusetts governor cautions against sweeping changes:

"Piers, I don’t support new gun laws in our country. We have a lot of gun laws now. We have background checks and other restrictions on gun ownership in our country," explains the presumptive GOP nominee for the 2012 election. "But as you say, we have three hundred million guns in America. We have a second amendment that protects the right of people to bare arms. I support that. I think that the effort to continue to look for some law to somehow make violence go away is missing the point."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, then tune in tonight at 9 p.m. as Morgan sits down with the couple who may be the next residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Romney is missing the point. Limiting the types of weapons people can easily buy won't end violence but it can limit the damage caused by such violent events. Simple handguns and hunting rifles are all any citizen needs. We don't allow people to have private bombs and we shouldn't allow people to have high powered assault weapons of any kind.

Virginia Tech had more kills, and the shooter used two pistols, one being a 22 pistol. Limit the damage? Im thinking the shotgun did the most damage. with your rational wouldn't it be better to allow everyone to carry any weapon they wanted and conceal it if they chose? Romney gets the point clear, dont be his "tougher gun law" self, because he wont get elected period. Iol yea we don't let people have bombs, and yet anyone with a little knowledge in chemistry could make one using wal-mart products. I sorry but you generalize all the normal people with the crazies and disarming America isn't the answer. Sure banning guns will keep the law bidding citizens like you and I from buying them but think of the black market, that already exists mind you, that will get a drastic increase in business. Yes ban guns and bring more violence into this country. Good work.

Idaho billboard compares Obama to Colorado theater shooting suspect!!

The sign features photos of Holmes and Obama side by side. Of Holmes, it says: "Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out." Of Obama, it says: "Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize."

Mitt should have asked Piers how without guns British guys killed so many in one day on the Tube and buses. Hypocrite.

Romney is clearly protecting his votes by not supporting any new gun laws. No sane person could possibly believe that a citizen should be able to go into a retail store and purchase an assault weapon that fires 100 rounds! There may be a lot of Americans that wish to bear arms, but Mitt is crazy if he thinks the majority doesn't want control of these types of weapons.

Your destiny is to die at some public gathering of size by the hands of some lunatic being able to freely purchase a gun and unlimited amount of ammo. May you die in a hail of bullets, bless you for enabling that to happen (?). Peace be with the memory of you..
May you be right or left wing, your political views does not really matter in that situation, does it?

For a presidential candidate to simply state that it is acceptable for a mass killing to take place because there are crazy people around that you can't control, wh can and should be allowed to buy any amount of weaponry and ammunition to proceed to kill citizens of our country is not the kind of president we need.
If that is the opinion of the president, there ought to be a solution at hand of how to solve the problem at hand; if indeed it is a problem perceived that people may go to the movie at this free country of our without risking being hailed in a cloud of deadly bullet while enjoying a movie. Just what is the NRA solution of this problem? Even this organization and it's supporters must recognize that this is a problem. If not, how many American citizen's lives will be lost without any action to prevent it? The argument for personal safety and right to hunt does stand in stark contrast to our safety from these crazy people and something has to give. That is our reality, unless catastrophes like these is what you want to see happen in this land of the brave and free. People just doesn't seem to be grown enough to handle the guns the right way and therefore shouldn't be allowed to.
People are able to drive fast but are not allowed to. Why?
People are able to overdose on drugs but are not allowed to. Why?
People are able to kill but not allowed to. Why?
Why do we allow high caliber automatic guns with unlimited amounts of ammo in the hands of crazy people?
    Because some people are sane?
This has been proven the wrong answer too many times.
We have had enough of this nonsense.
We want sense and real safety. Fool proof safety.
We don't trust you unsecure fools any more.

This man scares me. He and Mrs. Romney sit there with smug, know-it-all looks on their faces (disgustingly similar to those of Joel Osteen and his wife when interviewed about gay marriage) while Piers attempts to discuss mass murder in America. The blank stare of Romney's eyes tells me no new information is going in. It can't. He must repeat the party line for the sake of winning. Instead, he patiently explains–as a father to a son–how it is and how it will be, now and forever more: Americans have the second amendment and Americans have the right to bear arms–apparently of any kind. A president who cannot take in new information and make changes in his views? That's scary.

The feeling I get from Romney is: "I'm in charge here. I know what is right and you will do as I say. I will soon have America's military might behind me and then I will have the authority to bully anyone I choose. Just watch me." I am scared for America.

Piers, can you please ask Mr. Romney: "When faced with new information about an important topic, especially if the information goes against your current beliefs, what is your method of processing that information?" Also: "Do you believe you have an open mind to new ideas? Can you give a personal example?". Thank you for your revealing, informative interviews.

There is no 2nd amendment right to own a gun and there never was. What did the author say., Thomas Jefferson. We need to take back our streets from the NRA. It's all about money for them disguised as gun safety. 100+ gun deaths per year in Canada and 5000+ per year in the U.S. Somethings is wrong with that picture

'Discouraged' workers face tough road back to employment!

Are you feeling the effects of four years of failure? Why don't you try another four years of the same? Who was it that said that failure is the desire to repeat mistakes with the hope that good results will eventually happen?

Well you can thank the Failure in Chief, Obama!

23 million America's unemployed or underemployed!
Unemployment over 8% for 43 months and counting!
The price of a gallon of gas has doubled! Under Obama's failed leadership!
49 million Americans on food stamps!
3.6 million more Americans on Social Security Disability Insurance!
    Backdoor amnesty for illegal aliens!
Democrats in the Senate have not produced a budget in four years!
51% of college graduates cannot find a job! Because of Obama's failed fiscal policy!
$5.5 trillion in new federal debt, under Obama!
In Obama's twisted logic, he will not tell Americans, that the top 20% of all American income earners pay 87% of all federal income tax.
Will not enforce all federal laws equally! Will enforce DOMA!
Ambassador Stevens was murdered in Benghazi, Libya! Obama lied about his death!
Obama's foreign policy failures are notable, he has lost. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Yemen, Libya!

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.
    –Aldous Huxley

Remember: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

    Romney/Ryan=2012 and beyond!
