On Monday, Ryan Lochte's mother, Ileana "Ike" Lochte stopped by the "Piers Morgan Tonight" Olympic set in London to chat with Piers Morgan about her son's winning performance in the the 400-meter individual medley.
Beaming with pride, Mrs. Lochte laughed with Morgan over her son's choice of "flash", a stars and stripes jewelled teeth grill, to go with his newly acquired gold hardware. "It's Ryan," sighed Mrs. Lochte. "I can't change that. You know, you pick and choose your battles. And that wasn't one of them."
Also on deck last night was former Olympian and swimming commenter Mark Spitz to discuss the controversy surrounding Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen. Ye is currently under suspicion of doping after her record breaking swim in the 200-meter individual medley Saturday night. Ye shocked spectators when she swam a faster 50-meter freestyle split than Ryan Lochte in his 400-meter individual medley the same night. "I wouldn't want to speculate on anything that would be negative to her performance," cautioned Spitz at the top of his commentary.
"I mean it stands on its own unless she doesn't pass the drug test which I haven't heard yet," explained Spitz. "But I think that it's incredible to think that a woman can swim faster than a man. Especially when they were both on world record pace. Ryan [Lochte] just almost got the world record, and yet she swam faster that last 100 meters."
