Piers Morgan: "You're looking live at the empty chair that Todd Akin was supposed to be sitting in"

This evening, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed a guest unlike any other – the empty chair initially set aside for Representative Todd Akin.

Over the weekend, the Republican Representative from Missouri claimed that 'legitimate rape' rarely results in pregnancy, a stance that has ignited a firestorm amongst politicians on both sides of the aisle.

On the heels of his comments, Akin had agreed to appear as a guest this evening, only to later cancel.

Watch the clip, and listen to host Piers Morgan, as he explains the strange circumstances that led to Representative Todd Akin's empty chair.

No longer a huge fan of CNN, and Mr. Morgan is one of the reasons. So tired of his simplistic, biased, and overly judgemental approach to issues. Tonight's show was just an excellent example. Not sure there is a point to baiting someone who decided not to show up for an interview and there really is another side to Augusta's policy towards female membership. However, he is either too lazy or simplistic to really dig into both sides of an issue, just seems to jump on the popular side of the issue, perhaps in the hope of improving his (I think poor) ratings.

Piers Morgan is my favorite television interviewer. He asks intelligent questions after having done his homework and being knowledgeable about the subjects. He's on point, doesn't miss one step, keeps the interview focused, holds his own when he's asking the hard questions, and isn't afraid to express his point of view. Has a good sense of humor as well. In general, unfortunately, CNN has grown to be a little too sensational; for the most part, Piers' show isn't as sensationally-tainted as Dr Drew's and Anderson's. Of course, we could do without the empty chair episode. Let's not keep hammering the "bad guy." When we do, we regress and emulate the one we are criticizing. Let's not be a model for bullying.

Please have someone on who can talk about the Republican "Southern Stratigy" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy) and explain how they are shamefully using hot button issues to swing voters who are pretty much voting against their own self interest.

I have always liked Piers Morgan. He views the whole picture. As a journalist, he is excellant.
As a born citizen of the United States, I certainly do not want to see Rep. Todd Akin in the Senate.

I don't really know what kind of news is significant to CNN, am surprised that you couldn't even report the death of the Ethiopian Prime Minister ....who is also the African leader!
American press is trapped with what the Kardashians wear every day :(

Piers: I encourage you - and everyone - to be sober when commenting on the flaws in others. One day, God Almighty will judge the secrets of everyone's life. Do you have any?

The "gutless little twerp" comment last night sounded real grown up...actually more like an 11-year-old bully trying to call out a fight with some little kid. Time to grow up Piers...you're taking news interviewing to a new low. When I first saw you on Britain's Got Talent, I found you to be refreshing, real, and the kind of person I'd like to have a dinner conversation with. Now, you seem overly biased, self absorbed, focused on creating a headline, and not helpful in creating a constructive national dialogue.

"Twerp" comment was uncalled for. We use to like Morgan, now he comes accross as a spoiled British smart Ass who talks more than he Listens. I think he owes the viewers an Apology.

I miss investigative journalism. Where has it gone? It is hostage to ratings stunts. By Piers. My family and I are no longer watching. Let's see... I've stopped watching most of CNN programming, if not all, and that goes for Fox and MSNBC as well. When are you going to use the power of the media to INFORM the public, instead just handicap the horse race or "be the news" with your opinionated talking head experts? Did any viewer get education just to be told what to think, especially by Piers, or any network as it carves out its biased niche for ratings?

It seems that, for some, the real issue gets buried or ignored. That is, Akin is a "gutless little twerp" and not so much for his inability to face a direct response to his own stupidity, but more so for having absolutely no knowledge of the issue he so cavalierly disparaged on Sunday. What, he should be considered a bona fide candidate for public office? For me, gutless little twerp nails it ... way to go, Piers!

Piers has my respect where so many don't. I may not like some of his views on some things but I do believe he is a fair man and have seen him admit when his point of view was not the right one. If you want to bash him over the man vs. woman crap that\'s been around for years and years and years then bash everyone. That is one topic that will be argued forever. As far as Akin\'s concerned, BRAVO PIERS!!

So never mind the inaccuracies and lies of Akin regarding women and their biology, you're attacking Piers Morgan?!? Way to completely miss the point!

This message was brought to you by a woman who understands biology.

Todd Akin misspoke which he has admitted but I am staunchly pro-life and life begins at conception. I also understand biology and I am a woman.

Still haven't heard anyone explain how Akins "misspoke." Sounded to me like he pretty clearly expressed a position he had formulated after giving it some thought. That's not misspeaking.

A provision of ObamaCare is set to punish roughly two-thirds of U.S. hospitals evaluated by Medicare starting this fall over high readmission rates, according to an analysis by Kaiser Health News.

Starting in October, Medicare will reduce reimbursements to hospitals with high 30-day readmission rates - which refers to patients who return within a month - by as much as 1 percent. The maximum penalty increases to 2 percent the following year and 3 percent in 2014.

Why isn't MSDNC not reporting this!

obamacare is throwing the seniors and mmiddle class under the bus!

There is no recovery. Dont let the numbers fool you... they have been cooked for a long time now. Obama has wrecked the economy and added over 5 trillion to the deficit with nothing to show for it. In the first two years he could have passed any bill he wanted but didnt even think about jobs. His "laser like" focus was on the golf course and lavish vacations while Americans lost their jobs. He is the biggest clown to ever sit in the Presidency... and he is done come November. I just hope there is something left to recover.
