Coming up this evening at 9 p.m., "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes television veteran and former political adviser George Stephanopoulos for a face to face primetime interview.
Joining the host on a day in which his friend and colleague Robin Roberts had a bone marrow transplant, the "Good Morning America" co-host shared some insight into her ordeal:
"She's been going through chemotherapy all summer long," he reveals to Piers Morgan. "The last week has been especially intense, several days, of several hours a day of chemotherapy, capped off on Tuesday – 18 hours of chemo, to completely wipe out your system."
Speaking candidly, Stephanopoulos provides some perspective as to what it's like to undergo such a medical procedure:
"What a lot of people who get bone marrow transplants call this day, the day of the transfusion, they call it their new birthday. Because it's like she's starting all over again, with brand new blood, brand new bone marrow cells, and she's going to have to go just one step at a time."
Watch the clip, listen to the interview, then tune in to "Piers Morgan Tonight" at 9 p.m. as Stephanopoulos explains where Roberts gets her strength, and how she's empowered to keep fighting.
