Newt Gingrich and Jennifer Granholm decide the fate of Big Bird

Former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich joined Piers Morgan tonight, along with former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, to debate last night's presidential debate.

As we look ahead to tomorrow morning's job report, Morgan asked Granholm and Gingrich to take an honest look at the unemployment numbers under Barack Obama. "This is the lowest male participation in the workforce since they began keeping records," the former speaker of the house said. "People have been dropping out."

The host of "War Room with Jennifer Granholm" shot back at Gingrich:

"It's the policies of the Republicans that are completely trickle down, hands off, laissez-faire, which means that you don't do anything to try to get manufacturing jobs in this country," she explained. "You want to know why there's lower male participation in the workforce? It's because we've lost so many manufacturing jobs."

A more pressing matter to the host of "Piers Morgan Tonight" was the Twitter trending topic of "Sesame Street" and the concern that if Mitt Romney becomes president he would "kill" Big Bird.

So should Big Bird live or die?

"I would save Big Bird by liberating Big Bird from the bureaucracy," Gingrich said.

"Big Bird lives!" Granholm exclaimed.

Watch the clip, listen to the interview, and follow the "Piers Morgan Tonight" debate clock as Granholm and Gingrich heat up the conversation.

Your President hasn't done his job for the past four years and deserves to be fired.

The best part of this is the people of the country who honestly believe Jennifer Granholm is an expert on anything. Being from the state of Michigan I can personally inform you this women was and is the worst executive offficer to ever hold office in this countries history. Just like with Obama she did nothing in her first four years and the morons of the state of Michigan (voters) put her back in office for four more years. And when I say MORONS I mean M O R O N S!!!!! Her next four years she did the same she did in her first four years.

As for our new Governor, well, in only two years Michigan is in a much better situation financial and the confidence is coming back. By the way, this has nothing to do with the Auto bailouts.

You said President Obama hasn't done his job for four years and he should be fired? Really? Well, let's review...5.2 million jobs created in the private sector, 2.2 million jobs saved in the public sector. 1.1 million jobs saved in our auto industry. 32 conservative months of job growth inspite of teapublican obstruction measures. Affordable Care Act passed, providing health insurance for an additional 32 million Americans, American Jobs Act passed, stabilizing and growing our economy and averting a depression. Financial Reform passed, safeguarding against another financial meltdown. Our national security strenghtened with the demise of OBL and other al Qaeda operatives. America's image, trust and credibility abroad restored. The illegitimate and costly Iraqi war comes to an end and the Afghan war is winding down. And though a rocky road ahead, through the Arab Spring democracy has been inspired and supported in Egypt, Libya and South Sudan. O' and by the way, the unemployment rate has dropped to 7.8% inspite of obstructionist measures by the GOT.

        Obama/Biden 2012 by a LANDSLIDE.

I have to laugh at teapublicans who have been bashing the President on the economy since he took office. Let's face it, during Paul Ryan's leadership in which the GOP controlled the House and Senate and the Executive branches, we didn't end up with a stable and thriving America. No, instead we ended up with a squandered surplus, a housing crisis, high inflation, record unemployment, a broken financial structure and the worst economic crisis in America since the Great Depression. Who's the GOP to attack, criticize, scrutinine, judge and evaluate the President's handling of the economic crisisthat occured under their failed and misguided economic policies? You people had your chance and you blew it. You have no answers and no clue of what it takes to improve and grow our economy because if you had any answers, we wouldn't have been in this crisis in the first place. Paul Ryan and Mitt outsourcing Robmiddleclassmoney are not the solution. They are the problem. Please go away.

I start to think fox news is partially subsidizing his show on cnn and his salary now.

OK Morgan, a little simple math for you.. If you go and blow $1000.00 in a casino and your poor wife then goes and earns $1001.00 – true your household is only $1.00 better off, but your wife earned $1001.00 not $1. Oh look, it's actually quite easy.

We're not sure why Piers Morgan doesn't get this. The millions of jobs were lost about the time Obama first came into office. Jobs have been slowly and steadily created since. But in general, unless they do something extraordinarily smart or stupid to radically affect the economy, presidents don't have much effect on the numbers of jobs created.

Couldn't agree with you more. In fact, I said the exact same thing to a group of women yesterday who were discussing the upcoming election. The President in office always gets the blame or the credit for the jobs numbers, but it's unrealistic to presume that they are solely responsible either way.

Let's try another piece of really complicated – what are they called – oh right, facts... the ~$700B reduction to Medicare *Advantage* (N.B. – Morgan, you may remember what N.B. means – Medicare is where the Gov subsidizes insurance companies to provide Medicare recipients with healthcare) is money that wont *need* to be spent. Not a removal of service, a removal of waste.. Oh wait, that's why Ryan has it too....

Gingrich spent a lot of time laughing condescendingly at Jennifer Granholme, but about the only point he came up with was that fraud in Medicare is an example of why the government can't run things efficiently. Of course, anyone except a complete bozo knows that the fraud is on the part of unethical providers and not the government. The private insurance industry has to dedicate squads of people to deal with these fraudsters. Why Gingrich is taken seriously or brought on to shows to offer commentary is beyond me.

'Discouraged' workers face tough road back to employment!

Are you feeling the effects of four years of failure? Why don't you try another four years of the same? Who was it that said that failure is the desire to repeat mistakes with the hope that good results will eventually happen?

Well you can thank the Failure in Chief, Obama!

23 million America's unemployed or underemployed!
Unemployment over 8% for 43 months and counting!
The price of a gallon of gas has doubled! Under Obama's failed leadership!
49 million Americans on food stamps!
3.6 million more Americans on Social Security Disability Insurance!
    Backdoor amnesty for illegal aliens!
Democrats in the Senate have not produced a budget in four years!
51% of college graduates cannot find a job! Because of Obama's failed fiscal policy!
$5.5 trillion in new federal debt, under Obama!
In Obama's twisted logic, he will not tell Americans, that the top 20% of all American income earners pay 87% of all federal income tax.
Will not enforce all federal laws equally! Will enforce DOMA!
Ambassador Stevens was murdered in Benghazi, Libya! Obama lied about his death!
Obama's foreign policy failures are notable, he has lost. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Yemen, Libya!

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.
    –Aldous Huxley

Remember: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

    Romney/Ryan=2012 and beyond!

Why did Obama have to beat up the challenger, when all the talk show hosts are doing it for him by bringing up the issues that matter?

I'm disappointed that you let Granholm spew out democratic talking points without challenge. It was clear that the Obama campaign decided to try to save face by claiming Romney lied in the debate. I heard it from Obama, Axelrod, and several others during the day. They all said Romney lied, without backing it up with any facts. You should have demanded specific instances of lying, and at least acknowledged her statements as talking points from the Democratic choir.

Piers i like you but you were wrong in acting like all the jobs lost before there was a net gain dont count. I understand the point you and your fact checkers are making. But to leave out all the jobs he had to gain before that net total sounds kind of Fox Newsy.

Piers wants to know why Obama was looking at his notepad during the debate. Likely, it was because he came to debate issues. Romney was there to spew out dishonest talking points he had memorized, so many that it was impossible to deal with all of them in the time allotted, a very low-brow but apparently effctive tactic. Fact-checkers have been steadily dismantling Romney's nonsense since the debate, but meanwhile Obama has been pilloried for his lackluster manner.

Romney came to bully and hector, and Jim Leher lost control of the debate. He knew Romney was repeating talking points long since debunked, and he should have challenged him on them immediately. When Romney offered the absurd promise to cut funding for PBS to save money, Leher should have dripped contempt on him. PBS funding is a microscopic part of the Federal budget, and serves to bring culture into people's lives. All civilized countries support funding for arts and culture.

The transcript of the debate shows Obama giving substantive explanations of his policies, and Romney evading giving any details to support his claims. He even invented on the spot a clause in his health plan to cover pre-existing conditions. His inablity to describe how his tax plan would bring in necessary revenue is a classic example of evasion. Romney is not going to close any tax loopholes on the billionaires who make up so much of his campaign support. Romney is a con man. I hope voters figure his out before it's too late.

A famous expression repeat a lie loud enough and people will end up believing it. Mitt Romney said absolutely nice or new in the debate , he just memorized it many times and repeated those lies forcefully. And jim lehrer as a moderator was not unbiased and encouraged mitt,s lies so dearly. The only reason he won he presented a lie so well that people got dubbed by it so the poll shows a fake 67% for mitt which will evenporate very soon..................the 25% for Obama were thinking and this will increase.

Wow! Some in the Romney camp are saying that the new job numbers were fixed by the Obama administration and these numbers are a lie. Well, did the Republicans fix the numbers for the last three years then so they didn't look good for the President? These guys are so mean. There are a few questions regarding the whole unemployment problem. At the debate, Romney boasted that he had worked with Democrats in Massachusettes to pass bi-partisan bills. Well, he was lucky then that he didn't have an oppostion party who had vowed that its main goal was to make him a one term Governor, who signed pledges to a non-elected lobbyist and who filibustred, obstructed or delayed every job producing bill. Wouldn't there be a lot more jobs right now if the infrastructure, farm, research and other jobs bills had been passed? Just wondering. It has been reported that many big businesses and companies are sitting on trillions of dollars that they could be using to hire employees and expand their businesses. Why aren't they doing this if that's what "trickle down" economics is supposed to do? These "job creators" are Republican supporters so could that be the reason? Also, why are the Republicans rooting for the economy to be in bad ahape and seem so upset when things look up? They are so negative about everything. Can't wait for the next debate!!!

Finallay Governor Romney provides the voters with details of how he is going to balance the budget!!
He is going to eliminate PBS (450 million dollars a year; only 15% of the total PBS budget; the balance comes from charitable foundations and viewers like you). And if you were curious to know how that is going to balance the budget here are the arithmatics: 450 miilion dollars is the budget of pentagon for 6 hours (yest, mere 6 hours) and that's folks, the budget is now balanced!.

Obama lost his first chance to establish dominance over Romney near the beginning of the debate. After Obama's first rebuttal, Leher asked Romney to ask Obama directly about some of his policies. Romney took that time toinstead spew out more of his bs and never did ask Obama a question.
Obama should have interupted Romney atthat point and simply asked "Where's the question Governor? Or are you playing with you directing the debate?"
I think that would have thrown Romney off and established some early dominance be Obama.

Jim Lehrer as a moderator was pathetic and very biased and skewed against the President , asking direct questions is the job of the moderator than both sides get to answer and make their own comments. The moderator should be thrown out and replaced. Romney continued with his lies and sick jokes as usual , nothing new here.
