John McCain on the U.S. response to embassy attacks in Libya: "Either a cover up, or colossal incompetence"

With the general election now less than two weeks away, this evening at nine "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomes the return of John McCain and his candid political insight and perspective.

As the September 11th attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya continues to be a polarizing topic amongst the campaigns, the Arizona Senator offers his assessment of the controversy surrounding the call for more troops:

"There was – there was clearly requests by our ambassador, not Facebook posting but by our ambassador for better protection. His last message was about that," says McCain of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, one of four Americans killed in Benghazi. "His diary that was found, not by our people, but by CNN reporter, talked about his concerns. I think it’s a very legitimate question, why didn’t we do something about it?"

McCain, a former war veteran, questions the lack or support on the ground, and denounces the theory that that attack was anything other than terrorism:

"If we knew that there was danger why didn’t we have forces on alert in case something that would happen and then why did they send out our ambassador to the UN and why did the president go on these programs and speak to the UN and continually claim that it was a hateful video that triggered a spontaneous demonstration. You can’t assume anything, but either a cover up, or colossal incompetence which is, which is absolutely ridiculous and outrageous."

Tune in tonight at nine to hear more from McCain, as the former GOP presidential nominee reveals his reaction to fellow Republican Colin Powell again endorsing Barack Obama.

Lets get some facts right. It was McCain and gang who refused security that killed our Ambasador. Why are they not saying it was Israelis who killed the Ambassador? They want this region to stay in conflict zone so they can keep there occupation and get our tax dollars. What a cosy Sugar deal. Why did Romney go to Israel ?????????

CNN has become pathetic and has double standards

How did McCain deny security in Libya?
No budget cuts were made, and it was up to the administration to take care of the security.

Yes, there were cuts to the budget and the republican controlled House slash $1.5 billion from embassy security to continue more tax breaks for the rich. You can google it.

Budge cuts were required because the spending just doesn't seem to stop. But the budget cuts didn't target particular embassies, it was a broad reduction. So on 9/11/2012, the French Embassy, the UK Embassy and the Australia Embassies had 3 times the security detail over the Libya Embassy... Where the cuts were made are the direct responsibility of this administration. Common sense tells you to beef up security in Libya, were you have been attacked several times in the past 30 days and reduce security in Australia were its not needed. I'm not saying Obama is not directly responsibility or is directly responsible, but 4 Americans are dead, they asked to help and were told to "Stand Down".... American should never stand down when American's are being attacked, especially on American soil... Which an Embassy is!!

This person knows what he is talking about. Why doesn't CNN do any reporting about Benghazi instead of as Ann Coulter says "The word police"? CNN is promoting a cover up by the Obama Administration. Fox is the only channel you can hear about new developments. Shame, shame on the media for not being fair or honest in reporting the news.

All these blowhards laying the cause of this calamity/debacle are absolute morons. The budget cuts cited reduced the amount of total increase to the budget. No budget reductions to previous budgets resulted. Besides that, regardless of budget increases or reductions, actions to shift wasteful expenditures from low risk areas to HIGH RISK AREAS should've occurred....they didn't. The faux political image that BO wanted to create regarding an improved environment in the area took priority over dealing with the reality of the situation. THEN, after the unfortunate/deadly results, for the administration to attribute it to an obscure video (that had been released a year before) was/is an absolutely corrupt effort to coverup the malfeasacne engaged in by the WH and state department (all part of the executive branch for which the president is responsible).

Let's get our facts straight–the Obama Administration is to blame for the Benghazi killings. President Obama and Hillary Clinton stood outside the White House and deceived the American people. How can you have trust in a President who is supposed to represent the United States when he shows no honesty or integrity

Pierce, why is the media falling asleep or failing the American people. Please just report the facts. And her is one.

Obama's earpiece and wireless transmitter failed during debate (first debate)
As the mainstream media discuss theories of what happened in last nights debate, I think a very clear explanation is obvious. President Obama's wireless transmitter and earpiece that allow him to receive answers from his handlers was malfunctioning during the debate. Furthermore, It is quite clear who caused the malfunction. There is emerging evidence that George W. Bush was behind the debacle and his team of wifi hackers and oil industry electronic technicians were successful in tapping in to his frequency and interfering with his ability to hear David Axelrod feed him answers.

White House Press Secretary would not confirm or deny the plot to comandeer the debate or if Bush's crack team of hackers left their finger prints on this operation, but he did say it's too early to speculate and he did not want to get ahead of the ongoing investigation. The FBI is expected to arrive at the University of Denver as soon as the debate site is safe for them to search for evidence.

We can expect the real Obama to be back and in true form for the next debate and for the bumbling caricature of Romney to return after Obama administration officials get to the bottom of this.

Dan Rather was quoted as having heard a man yelling, "What is the Frequency, Kenneth" from behind the stage.

An unnamed source told us, "If Jimmy Carter's grandson can dress up like a waiter and wire up a Republican candidate talking about the 47%, Halliburton and Rumsfeld can pull together enough old Nixon plumbers to make one last ride for their rich oil buddies".

I will make this easy for you to understand as the MSM is intentionally distracting. Obama knew the Libya attacks were not about the video, and that they were not born out of a natural protest. But he and his team lied about that to the American people and choose to blame freedom of speech. Then he stated to the UN and world that the future does not belong to those who slander the prophit mohamd. Then they had film maker was arrested on TV in front of the world by a large well armed force and held to this day without bail (even suspected murderes get bail). What do you think the radical islamists think about all that? Do you think maybe they think that their violence actually worked? Will they do more or less now? So Obama's lies about this and the consequenses we will face from it were all done for his political career. And you disgusting takers cheer this monster? People died and he did nothing, went to bed, went to a fund raiser the next day all the while lying to us all.

Yes! Tex! Big lesson for any Republican Governor Do Not Educate the plebs.

If you educate them the ungrateful swine will realise the ruse of trickle down and stop voting GOP.

Remember Romney is a compulsive liar and is Republican in name only your GOP couldn't put up a true conservative because the polls told them that they had Zero chance of beating Obama.
Romney's chances revolve around the fact disgusted right wing racists and disappointed liberals will form a coalition and will hold their noses and vote in a liberal liar Romney.

As for your cost of living the cost of living is higher the richer the area is it is a linear curve.
Well actually not completely linear as it drops in relation to increasing income.
Texas has the highest proportion of welfare claimants for a large state In fact the more likely a state is to vote Republican the greater the number of welfare claimants.
Higher unemployment in wealthy area is reflective of their desire to wait out the recession rather than move for work.

That is because Massachusetts was 47th in job growth under Romnesia and that binder of women he talked so proudly about was actually in reference to the 20,000 female Chinese workers his Bain firm hired. Just google the transcript from the controversial 47% speech and read how passionately Romnesia spoke about those female Chinese workers and the deplorable conditions they worked in. Romnesia will trash 47% of his own people but he'd weep like John Boehner for Chinese workers. And his friend Scott Walker would strip American workers of their collective bargaining rights and their tool to call for better working conditions but this half of a man would express so much emotion when he talked about communist workers and their working conditions. its time the American people wake up or their future and their family's future would be at stake.

Perhaps the American people would have been more compassionate about Libya if the Republicans had not put our young men and women into wars that we had no business being in for such a long time. Talk about misleading the American people. John McCain is just a bitter cranky old man which is such a shame. There was a time I truly respected the man. Then he sold his soul to the republican party hook, line, and sinker instead of standing by what he actually believed. Oh and Mr. McCain, I won't call myself a republican again.

You are insane to not think this is a big deal. Republican and Democrat shouldn't matter and your excuse for not caring because of "Republican wars" is pathetic. These were Americans that were attacked and where were the balls that Biden and Obama keep touting that they have. Killing Osama Bin Laden with a year of preparation doesn't take balls. Making a call to save Americans the President is responsible for in Libya would have been balsy. Obama messed up and then misled us and that is a fact. If he had balls like Biden says then he would not have lied. Hillary told the father of one of the seals who were killed that they would arrest and punish the guy who made the video. You and the media keep ignoring that the white house pushed this line for two weeks when everyone knew what happened within hours of the attack. Just be honest and don't blame "not caring" on political issues.

There is no truth in journalism anymore and everybody who watches the mainstream news, including CNN, is an idiot. First you know nothing of rocket propelled grenades so shut up. They are not fired at long range idiot. Secondly, they were mortars that were attacking the compound. Mortars are tracked with radar. We had two drones in the air and one of them had an armament. Third, the ex-seals had a laser designator that would allow for a precision bomb to take out the mortars with ease and this was not done and the President is busy ducking the questions and people like you who railed Bush are now defending the same idiocy. You are so wrong to say that "all the security in the world would not have prevented this based on your lack of military knowledge. A big enough security team would have been able to repel the attacks. You are also incorrect when saying that bases were compromised in Afghanistan and Iraq with rocket propelled grenades. This is a completely false statement and you should stop before you get caught in your own little lie trying to construct a narrative that defends the indefensible. I am an infantryman by the way and know everything there is to know about deployment of weapons.

First and foremost, what happened at our consulate was an unfortunate tragedy and an outrageous attack on these Americans. Secondly, I believe in time of national tragedy, what is most important is that we come together as a nation and display our unity and resolve. However, the last thing we want to to is to convey to the enemy that we are divided and that their attack on our freedom has succeeded. Let's face it Senator McCain, a parent of one of the deceased said she does not trust Mitt Romney and she demanded that he stopped using her son's name on the campaign trail for political gain. And recently the Ambassador's father said he believs his son's death is being politicized too much. Should I say more Senator McCain?

And while more security could have averted this attack, a war veteran like you who got shutdown in Vietnam should know that when missiles or rocket propelled grenades are unleashed from a distance, all the security in the world don't make a difference. Let's face it, the deaths at the Benghazi compound didn't occur by intruders who used machines guns but rather as a result of terrorists unleashing rocket propelled grenades from a distance, setting the compound on fire. Likewise, during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, our heavily fortified compounds were breached dozens of times with casualties ensuing simply because the insurgents used rocket propelled grenades from a distance to unleash their attacks. And the same can we said of the 1983 Beirut attack that killed 283 U.S. marines. Our compound there was heavily fortified, yet our security was breached and these casualties occured. So let's come together and discuss ways to ensure that such attacks do not occur again and that discussion should start by calling on the republican controlled House to go back and make available the $1.5 billion they slashed from embassy security to continue more tax breaks for the rich.

Casey, as a former infantryman and now a schoolteacher you are what is wrong with Americans. You are completely wrong saying it is manufactured because I have seen the caskets. Those are real. The emails showing that the CIA denied help three times are real. The two drones flying overhead taking real time video showing the attack is real. The denial of the attack by the White House and Obama by claiming it was incited by the anti-muslim video that lasted for two weeks is real. Put your head in the sand and I am again ashamed that my military brothers put themselves on the line and you get to live in ignorance. Please don't make this a political issue. Look at the evidence and ask yourself why doesn't the President release the drone video which is what he had access to so we can decide for ourselves why the president didn't think it was a coordinated attack and not deserving of sending help.

This is a guy calling Obama incompetent. We've older by 4 years (and we remembered everything.) since you and Obama competed in 2008. You were running like a mad cow all over the place to handle economic turmoil @ the time. You went to the White House and met with Bush. You stayed mum all through the meeting with Bush and you had noting to suggest how to fix the problems at the time. Obama did. You skipped Letterman's show to rush back to Washington to tackle "economic crisis" and later turned out you went to another show. Pathetic! You were very competent back then, huh?

Four Americans were slaughtered. The Consulate was minimally protected to give the impression that the Arab Spring had somehow eliminated the hatred against the US. The administration needed a fall guy and used the ‘Video Excuse’ because Obama has declared both Bin Laden and terrorism dead at the Dem convention. Obama can keep doing his Bin Laden victory laps until the cows come home but that won’t end the infinite hatred and bloodlust of those troubled people. That attack went on for many hours and I believe 2 of our people had to defy orders to go and help. The subsequently lost their lives. It’s time for CNN to cover this tragedy and get the truth to the people. The uninformed comments from Admin loyalists prove how good a job CNN is doing to keep them in the dark.

I don't understand all of your Romney supporters. Romney is a guy that is quick to start a fight but is not willing to get his own hands dirty. During his college days Romney participated in demonstrations to support the Vietnam war. Instead of putting his life on the line and enlisting in the Vietnam fight he ran off to France for some missionary work that he was conveniently called to do. Evil is not black, white, yellow, brown, its green baby. You want to put someone in office that hides his tax returns. You don't know who he has loyalty to. His success is building up companies and shipping them overseas, this is your idea of how to build America!!!!! Everybody kiss your job goodbye. Romney and friends will ship it away to the lowest wage worker. These guys scare me and they should scare you too. I know some of you hold traditional values and you want to support Romney because he has some of the values that you have(depending on when and where you ask him). There are a lot of things in this world that people with traditional values do not participate in, it does not mean that the rest of society has to also have those same beliefs. If you don't believe in abortion then don't have one, teach your children the importance of not having one. You don't have to outlaw things for everyone else because you don't believe in them. The same thing could be said for alcohol, divorce, adultery, judging others, we all know that we should not do these things and we all have to answer to God one day for our own choices. There are children that are just waiting to be adopted and we are obsessed about these children when they are in the womb, but don't give a care about them once they are born. How many adopted childern are you willing to take in.

WHY isn't CNN covering this story? I don't like going to Fox for my news, but I have to with this. This is a huge story and important to the American people if they were lied to by the president. This makes Watergate look like a picnic, but I watched all the news shows on Sunday, and CNN didn't even touch it. Shame on you!

Sen. Mc Cain, It is time to retire ...
After kissing up to the Tea Party during the 2010, so that you gte reellected, you hav enot gotten your brown nose out of TP's behind yet.
TP owns AZ GOP, and it is clear with them electing the recalled State Sen. Pierce as their chair in AZ.
Mc Cain is just sitting and saying nothing about the TP politics of destruction and hate.
Only after GOP establishment started supporting J. Flake he stood firmly with J. Flake. (another politician)
and against Gordon in the primaries.
McCain is a flake, so is J. Falke who has not ever had a real job or succesful career outside of politcis.
Falke: another polical flake who used to be moderate republian (and started as Dem) in late 80s.
Where is teh TP who hates career politician?
    Vote Carmona!

Cindy Sheehan tragically lost her son in Iraq. She was followed all over the nation by the press and she was given ample opportunity to be critical of the Bush Admin. CNN practically followed her into the restroom. Now we have 4 of our people slaughtered in Libya while Obama is president and the families of the dead have no voice on CNN. The state run media won’t cover it because the chosen one is in the presidency now.

  34. Where are the US Journalist??????????????????

    Benghazi story…………….

FACT1: Benghazi consulate was attacked over a 7 hour period. This attack was videotaped and the Obama administration watched in did nothing….Two seals were denied to defend the attack. They defied orders to help….Later ending back at the annex for protection they were killed by mortar shells despite many calls for help and even laser siting the mortar team for air assets…Incidentally the nearest help was less than 2 hours away…..

FACT2: Obama and company have been caught trying to cover up Benghazi attack by claiming common day protesters turned violet over a video…….WHY: They didn’t want Americans to know al-Qaeda is alive and well, they denied help during attack and our diplomats were not adequately protected……Despite numerous request to beef up security.

FACT3: The video explanation was televised by Obamas administration on many talk shows and a UN speech……..This broadcasting of the Video incited many riots with additional deaths (mainly Muslim) …..Many Many Muslim knew little of video until after the Obama administration mass broadcasting of it. Clinton even went on to say she would prosecute film maker………

FACT4: A video of our own was created apologizing for the disparaging video (the one Obama and company advertised) and broadcast in Muslim countries on tax payer’s dime!

    This is impeachment material folks!!!!!!!

ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN are all quite……..all silent……………………………………..

John McCain? Are you serious? That guy changes his mind more than people change their underwear. Just interview him again a week from now and he'll have a totally different opinion.

.. word on the street is that confederates of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq terror cult and operatives for terrorist media financier Alwaleed bin Talal will be meeting in the City of New York, Monday Dec. 3rd 2012 @ 7 pm.
Where? 768 5th Ave. Why? to plot destruction, naturally. We have been unable to determine what code-phrase will be used to gain admission to the Plotters' Ball. "Dan Quayle's brain" is rather too obvious. "Midge Decter's penis" perhaps?"

    (will McCain be there?)

I have actually turned away from watching CNN over the last 2 months because it seems as though they are leaning more to the right. They have journalist that have focused on Libya constantly. We have some of them that had access to journals written by the ambassador and seem to be talking a lot to so called intelligence officials. Obtaining the ambassador journal as well as communication with intelligence officials seems like tampering with an investigation. I could be wrong but lower level intelligence officials should not be talking to the press while an investigation is in process unless it has been reviewed and released by higher ups. Anyone could be claiming that they are a intelligence agent and could give false or misleading information.
