Amidst swirling rumors surrounding Cory Booker making a potential run for the governorship, or possibly a seat on Capitol Hill, on Friday evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed the Newark mayor back to the program, allowing him an open platform to set the record straight.
In classic political fashion, Booker addressed the chatter by providing no concrete hint of any future plans:
"I want to find whatever I do that can best make a contribution to the people in the city I love, and the state I love," Booker told Piers Morgan.
"At the end of the day, politics should be left to political seasons," he insisted. "Governing should be done during governing season. And even right now, in New Jersey, before we get to next year, which will be the election year, even right now, it's time for us to focus on governing and serving people."
When pressed by Morgan about a possible run for the presidency, Booker pushed back with humor:
"President of the New Jersey 'Star Trek Association?'" he quipped. "Because I will definitely volunteer to be chief 'Trekkie' of the United States."
Watch the clips, and listen to the interview, as Booker further describes his political passions:
"I want to stand up and fight for issues that I believe in," he said, noting that in his opinion "life is about purpose, not position."
