Clips From Friday: Piers Morgan gets fired up over gun control; shooter's former classmate remembers him

On Friday evening, in the tragic wake of the Connecticut Elementary School Shooting, Piers Morgan dedicated the evening's program to the subject of gun control. Joining Morgan on the program was John Lott, author of "More Guns, Less Crime," New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Dan Gross, and Steve Dulan, attorney for the Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners.

The night's discussion reached a boiling point when Morgan exclaimed, "It's a load of total hog wash," in response to the argument that the best preventative measure to gun violence is to have more individuals carrying firearms.

"He didn't go to the movie theater with the largest screen," argued Lott and referring to the shooting in Aurora, Colorado a few months earlier. "He went to the one movie theater that banned guns."

To which a strongly disagreeing Morgan responded, "More people would have been killed in the mayhem that erupted."

Also on Friday, Morgan spoke to Alex Israel, a former classmate of the shooter. Israel expressed her shock over the realization that her childhood friend was the perpetrator. "I don't know if you can ever predict something like that would happen," she said. "You never think it's going to happen to your school, somewhere you live and you've your whole life. But I don't know if I could predict it."

Israel did however recall that "there was something off about him."

"He was a little fidgety, a little uneasy sometimes if you were just to look at him," recalled Israel. "I think he was just socially not really into going out there and making as many friends as everyone was really doing in elementary school and middle school. He was just - he preferred to stay to himself."

Watch the clips, and listen to the interviews, as "Piers Morgan Tonight" continues our coverage of this tragic event and the ongoing discussion of gun control.

Exactly Gary! What I'd like to tell Mr. Morgan is if he so desires his gun free social utiopa he can go back where he came from, as a matter of fact he can take all of his liberal gun grabbing friends too. If you all don't like it here you are all more than welcome to leave. We won't miss you.

Gary, Chris and others of this mentality. Are there any Americans outside the USA working, trying to help other countries, for example the military? It may take a moment before the light comes on. Now, think about your statement.

Gary, think before you call someone an "idiot", you could be looking in a mirror.

Focus on the issue and have a great day.,

What’s the cause of this violence in America and this tragic shooting?!?
FIRST: The news media, CNN included profits from the coverage. So they will run stories like this in a loop until the rating fall off. They also profit from the story about gun control, while they campaign to take our rights away.
Second: The entertainment industry profits from making violence movies, the more shocking, the better for them. They have no responsibility if someone emulates the behaviors.
It makes no more sense to outlaw guns than it dose to censor the all news and the Hollywood movies.
Most of these ldiot killers wouldn’t think up such violence if it had not been suggested to them by the Medias, Obama type supporters.
THIRD: It is you. You have morbid curiosity that should be replaced by positive thoughts. Don't go to the slasher movies. Also our moral fiber is being destroyed by thing like legalizing drugs and gay marriage. The liberals are destroying your moral compass. What actor said? "I got to kill all the white people" like it was funny just before this shooting? I forgot to mention that, in a society that has no value for LIFE, I mean that is pro abortion why should any life have value. Obama should be happy with the killings. It fits his MO

Thank you Piers for speaking out and asking sensible questions!! Too bad Mr. Dulan chooses to avoid answering, but he is not fooling anyone! He has no answer because no REASONABLE person can defend the need for a citizen to own an automatic weapon.

It is a good thing these have been outlawed since 1968. The truth is these are legally purchased weapons, that were illegally taken from their owner just as her life was stolen. It was the psychopath that did this not the instrument used to terrorize. If he ran these children over with three cars we would not be crying to make them illegal.

The AR-15 pattern weapon such as the Bushmaster (not Bushwhacker – as I heard several times on CNN) used Friday, IS CURRENTLY ILLEGAL FOR CIVILIANS TO OWN IN CT (since 1993). Would making them illegal elsewhere change anything about the situation – NO, would changing the purchasing process or creating a registry – NOPE not a bit.

Now, ACTIVELY working with the NRA to get people educated about the responsibility a gun owner has to secure their firearms when not on there person or under their control in addition to the options to implement such security while allowing access when needed could have potentially helped the situation we had Friday.

i.e. of the above, a tipple locking safe for long term storage of infrequently needed weapons (AR-15)
AND a quick access pistol safe that uses a personal combo to access 1-2 weapons.

A lack of knowledge of the shooter's mental illness may have led the owner to a situation where she felt that a safe was unneeded . The fact remains that we will not always know if a seemingly typical person is mentally ill when they are functioning within society norms.

Another non-gun owner who doesn't understand the law or their rights trying to speak out against it. Automatic weapons have been outlawed for some time. Guess you should understand the difference of automatic vs semi-automatic.

Morgan was unable to hold a reasoned debate because he is not well versed in the facts and arguments of either side. On most topics of real importance, he is never able to do so. A liberal may love him, but MSNBC is already available for intellectual vacuousness. O'Brien the same thing. CNN will continue to tank if it continues to parade on these unveiled liberals who emote on TV as a replacement of engaging journalists who conduct themselves with sobriety and intellectual depth. CNN is a biased snore.

The problem is never the tool, its the people that use them. Want to fix the problem? Bring back boys and girls training schools and fix the delinquent children before they become adults. Our country is full of violet, disrespectful, delinquent teenagers headed for our prison system. Tim Mcvey used a truck and farming "tools". You are not going to stop a violent person set on doing harm by changing the size of a gun! Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their family's.

Michigan has some of the most violent cities in America, and if he is representing our state for "RESPONSIBLE" gun ownership, we are all in trouble!

You CAN do something NOW! I strongly believe that violence in the media is bad for society so years ago I made a promise to myself. I will NOT contribute or add to the violence. That means that if it is a violent movie or video game, I refuse to allow my money to go towards something that encourages violence. That's it. It really is that simple.

I took a personal stand and decided not to add to the problem. I don't preach, argue, or try to change people's minds. I simply refuse to allow my money to be used to support something that I truly believe is bad for everyone.

So please join me if you wish and take a stand by refusing to buy, watch, or play movies or videos that are contributing to the problem.

Have u people ever heard of the Black market, any outlaw idiot nutcase who wants a gun will have no problem getting one. Just like anyone who want drugs can find them. Only the lawabiding families who like to hunt & shoot guns will pay the price. Yes we need stronger gun laws, but i say i would rather pay taxes to my school distric to put armed guards at the front door& pay for any teacher who wanted to carry a gun to protect my kids. Just saying that a all out gun ban will not work because 95 % of the banned guns will NOT be given up.

Can anyone offer some other statistics?

America has the highest rate per capita of gun related deaths than who? Higher than central american countries, or middle east, or africa?

Why is it that each side has statistics that support thier arguement, yet nobody seems to be able to agree on the actual issue?

Piers, I urge you to be less like Jerry Springer and more like the unbiased reporter you used to be. Try bringing pertinent statistics to the show, and don't let your guests (or yourself) talk over them. Yes, please do explain since it is my experience that hunting game with a firearm in the UK is reserved for the wealthy elite due to the money involved with licensing requirements to own a double/single shotgun or rifle. Hell, even the ~7000 bobby that do have pistols lock them in lockers at the station unless authorized to deploy with them.

As an Australian I am perplexed by the lack of logic, common sense and the ability to have rational, intelligent, constructive discussion on many pressing subjects. Supposedly learned individuals defend and advocate irrational policies and avoid commitment to answering very simple questions.

For instance, how can your guest argue that only 60% of gun purchases need to have a background check. Obviously a 100% background check would do good on so many levels... Who has what, why and where, at the time of purchase.

Why do people need high powered semi automatic rifles for home defence or hunting? A hunter that needs a semi automatic is comical and embarrassing, It's like an Olympic cyclist with training wheels on his bike. Using a high powered semi automatic rifle for self defence in a home, car, city or built up area is a recipei for disaster.

Do you seriously advocate that the second amendment professes the right to purchase any and all weapons including more advanced weapons, if one becomes available. The latter to create your level playing field, just in case the home invader that may enter your house has one.

My thoughts are with the children, teachers and their families. Also the Police, Medical Staff and officials that had to attend the scene. Awareness is for the ease that the mentally twisted excuses for humans can easily gain military style weapons and ambush school children, office workers and shoppers. Don't say it's non of my or anybodies business.

Why do you as an australian care about American laws or policies? From what we hear, in Australia... only the criminals are armed, and therefore can take what they want. We really don't welcome your views if you haven't fought for your freedoms of this country, then you cant possibly understand. Its about liberties and freedom the basis which this country was founded... certainly we don't expect others from other countries to understand as there is no sense of pride for freedom which many even those who live here take for granted. Giving up even one liberty leads to forfeiting them all eventually. How can you possibly understand...? Its quite simple... You cant. Why don't you put your commentaries to matters dealing with your own country instead of molding ours with your very skewed with no sense of liberties which we hold so dearly? If you were my neighbor....my sign would read "My next door neighbor wants to ban all guns
Their house is not armed. I respect their opinion and promise not to use my guns to help protect them." Please move next door.., I'd love to see the outcome. Ps. We also have more than kangaroos in this country, we have Grizzly Bears too.

Case is hardly closed, its closed when I say its closed control freak. Only one who doesnt live in this country trying to comment on Americas values and liberties is the ignorant one. This means you since you arent likely smart enough to figure it out. Thank you for re-iterating my post, I meant it, and still do. And by the way, Pearl Harbor attack was hardly an invasion, they didnt land foot on american soil...it was an attack, and of course us gun slinging Americans came out victorious. We still have never been invaded. Also, australia doesnt and hasnt lent a hand in any fighting along side of America in any conflict. Certainly if they did, we wouldnt rely on them actually hitting their targets... shooting from Aussies is no better than their pompus mouths, with the aim like that of the french to US, and almost as worthless. Again, since you dont live here and have no right to protect this land or our liberties.... Your worthless commentary is not welcome on this soil any more than you chance of getting a residence visa. Thats slim to none for your mentality. Case closed Aussie. Stay in your lands, dont come here where we are free and appreciate it loyally.

Wholey support Piers Morgan's comment on gun control – all the way from Australia, we look on horrified and bewildered as to why the gun lobby exhurts so much power over politicians and moreover why politicians so not put the safety of American's first. Children rely and need adults to be responsible and look after their well being. In this case, the adults have failed miserabley. If this awful tragedy does not change the laws on gun control, I can't imagine anything will.

Our founding fathers were in fact very smart men to understand the need of guns to protect form foreign and "domestic" threats. IN this day and age I say a semi-auto is not good enough. One needs fully auto to protect one from same. Anyway, it is the wrong thing to try, rether an insane act , trying to take away 300 million arms...No army on Earth, or any combined army could disarm the USA. Perhaps this is what makes us "different".

Hey folks . I just wonder just how many criminals are stopped(deterrent) by families having guns in the house ? 22 house burglaries in my area in 3 weeks . most were sneaking in at night while folks were asleep. scary huh ? these druggies any more are not normal people we are dealing with. The world is NOT what it use to be. please be safe with guns they are to be respected. Please try and change the morals , controlling drugs will stop a lot of it.
First of all I live in a remote area in the country , nearest house 1 mile. A drunk man came to my door one night carrying a long gun. he was plowed , drunk . could barely stand madder than hell he couldn't find his car. I took a revolver with me ,,, he was very mad and had the shotgun turned toward me once so i took it away from him and put him to bed. I didn't sleep after that but he was a great guy... until the alcohol. what if I hadn't had the gun ? every one coming to your door may not be rational.

Stop it?! You think your my father or that you can tell people what to do or not to do? I think not. You may not exercise your freedoms, or appreciate them... but you cannot impose ours with your skewed perspective. Its unfortunate that people believe our government is going to always protect them, and be the answer for everything and operates in the better interest of the people. It does not. There is no fiscal responsibility or moral obligation to the people and one day, you may need a gun for protection. All great nations eventually fall, and we, the people are always rounded up like cattle. Dont think because you live in the greater united states that you are exempt from any criminal activity or government corruption. One day perhaps you will value your current freedoms, and hopefully will never have to use them. Its always hindsight when people see clearer. I think its better to have preparation and never need to use it, than to wish you had it and dont...

I was NOT trying to tell you anything. I was trying to open Piers peoples eyes as to what there doing by running this on the media over and over and over . he's cutting his nose off to spite his face, they cant keep the Bushmaster in stock !
I am a proud gun owner . I can reach and get one in any room in my home. They WILL NOT take my guns. Period. When they take our guns we become victims . break into my house at your own risk . It will be dangerous.
I think we need to train first responders outside law enforcement in each community to help with school protection. trained properly and scheduled with responsibility from say 8 AM to 4 PM would help . I don't know the answer.
I believe drugs are the bigger problem and the cause of most gun violence . lets start there . Then lets take care of our family members who have problems . dont look the other way like the mom did in newtown. she made a lethal mistake with this shooter. Pay close attention to what your kids are watching and the games their playing . Dont know if theres a connection but there might be. cant be positive for a young mind to be blowing people away on a tv screen.

Its time for the US Congress to remove the 2nd Amendment, no person except the US Military, Police and those Security Personnel that require them to carry firearms during their official duties. All weapons should be outlawed by the every State, and enforced by the USG end of story. No firearms regardless of make, model and caliber. And Why Not?

Owning A gun for protection at home, oke i can relate to that. im not an american but i think that makes sense. would like to have that in my country as well just in case an idiot gets the wrong idea of getting into your house. although semi's, hunting rifles etc. these guns should in my opinion be locked away at a guarded lockup or gun club. you can own them and when you want to pick them up you can do so. but beter control measures should be put in place so that if a nut walks in he can not just take whatever gun he likes and go on a shooting spree.
By heaving guns kept safe at lockups you can see what goes out and comes back in to these lockups.
having a beter oversight of what really is going on.
also putting a minimum age on weapon ownership would do some good.

If you can't ban firearms all together, because the lobby is too strong and the majority of US citizens still believe in the 2nd amendment, than couldn't you at least ban semi automatic and automatic guns from the market? Now instead of talking about the right to own a gun, couldn't you think and talk about the need to own a gun. Commentators are saying that there are 3 millions guns in circulation. Responsible and concerned Americans should turn their guns in to authorities... it would also help a little don't you think. Small steps to empower the average person on doing something to stop this.

Your yelling about removing guns from the general population is not the ONLY thing that needs to change. It is values, morals, media etc that ALL needs to be addressed. This is just a component of the problem. Maybe addressing the junk that comes out of hollywood on TV and movies needs addressing. Just about a month ago you had on a billionare producer who you promoted as an amazing man and his story was glorified... yet when you showed his 30 second clip it displayed massive shooting and violence... and Pierce thought how great this was!!! What is wrong with you.... guns are not the only problem... this probably has a bigger impact on our young children than owning guns... Take a look at your overall opinion and get it in check Pierce... you were VERY disappointing in your behaviour. Hypocracy.....

That's Right, you should always think before you speak. I do not own automatic weapons but I am not against them because it is not the gun that kills it is the person. If you ban guns you still have not banned the killers, so the problem has not been solved.. If someone wants to kill they will. We as a nation need to find out the problem why we have so much anger and killings and fix the problem now, no matter what the cost don't put the blame on something else like more gun control or whatever ... because the next time the killer will bring something bigger that could kill more people at once. If a killer wants to kill they will kill period. Drugs are illegal and our country is run over by them. So I believe if guns are banned law biding citizens will be the only one's that don't have them and the bad guys will own them all. Just like the Drugs.

For years the US Government has successful campaigned against smoking by putting more and more graphic pictures of mouth cancers on cigarette packets. If President Obama is serious about making a change to America's gun laws, there was a terrible job to do when he visited the parents of the slain innocents of Newtown. He needed to ask for their permission to publish selected crime scene photographs and medical examiner photos of the kids who have died. America has been desensitized from real violence and real war by Hollywood and TV dramas. What is needed is a real and graphic confrontation with the reality of what a semi automatic rifle can do.

I do not believe that any of the gutless wonders in Washington who are bought and paid for by the NRA would have the strength to stand up against such imagery nor the avalanche of outrage that would fall on them if they did. People who vote and put these lobbyist controlled yes men into congress need to clearly see what they are voting for. The vast majority of people in the US have said time and time again they want more control of weapons in their country. It is time that they were heard.

Terrible though this course of action may seem, this is one way to assure that the children of Newtown did not die in vain. Something good needs to come out of this tragedy and shock therapy may be the only answer. One can only hope that President Obama was up to asking the question. If it had been my child that had been taken in such an awful way, he would get a yes from me.

Here we go again. Let's make MORE laws that are essentially sybolism over substance. Someone who is determined to commit murder is not going to care about whether the weapon he has is banned or not. Never mind Lanza killed his mom in her bed and then went on his rampage with stolen guns. How many layers of futile laws do you liberals want to pass to make yourselves feel better? Feinstein's new version of the AWB ignores everything already in circulation. What are you going to do about those? If you think going after guns in this country is the answer (and it's not – the 1st AWB expired because there was no data to support its continuation), then ether try to repeal the 2A, and/or try and conficate every gun out there (~300M). Good luck, and be prepared for the next civil war. Deaths by traffic accidents (35-40K per year), exceed firearms deaths in this country...but do we hear any outrage at that? Nope....business as usual. And that is one of the most heavily licensed and regulated products we American enjoy. As far as what happened on Friday, having someone armed at schools, at all times, whether it be a cop, a security professional, or teachers/administrators with the proper training and willingness to fight back is THE ONLY measure that will actually make a difference in a situation like this. We need to stop the sheep-like thinking that schools are safe becuase we don't allow guns there. If the government declares a "gun free zone" and doesn't provide for the safety of civilians in that zone, they should allow people to take that responsibility to defend themselves. The liberal counter argument to that is always that us "normal" people can't be as qualified as LEO.I'm sick of hearing that cops are these superhuman beings and are the only ones that can make a difference in life/death scenarios. Nonsense...The same training is available to citizens on the private market. Even at a lesser level, Florida is at the 1M mark for CCWs....with all those guns in public, you'd think the streets would be red with blood with all these gun battles the left said would happen. Seems pretty calm to me. All the talk about gun control won't stop someone who is already willing to commit murder. They will find a way. Time to rise above the all the emotional rhetoric and use some logic. Taking a data-driven, rational look at the situation does not honor the fallen any less.....

If law abiding citizens did not keep legally purchased guns in their homes waiting to be stolen by criminals and murderers then criminals and murderers would not be able to steal these guns. If there was no ammunition for sale and if it was illegal to possess it then sooner rather than later hundreds of millions of guns would become virtually harmless.

I agee with Piers on gun control issues. The lack of mental health support in the USA is just as important. Most insurance companies only cover limited visits. Some don't cover any. Then there are the millions without cover. My son doesn't have any cover though he works full time and can't afford to buy privately; he suffers from OCD and we tried to get him in to see a professional, only to be told we don't take self-paying patients. WHAT? Healthcare for every individual is as important as the food we eat to sustain our bodies and it shouldn't be controlled by profit making insurance companies. This guy suffered from mental health issues, as did some of the other mass killers.

The story I read on MSN this morning, where the mother of 13 year old Michael, has been trying for years to get help for her son only to be told by a social worker that the only way he will get help is if he is charged with a crime. What's going on in this country?

Clearly, with the number of mass murders which have occurred in schools and malls (there have been over 50 since 1983), there is a significant "copycat" factor at play. The blame for that can clearly be placed on the media.

Instead of talking about restricting gun rights, we should look toward placing reasonable, common sense restrictions on the press. Our founding fathers never envisioned a world with high speed printing presses and instant worldwide communications, so clearly, the First Amendment should not apply. Without these, these copycat murders would likely not have happened.

It's time to open a national debate, to restrict the reporting which so clearly leads to such violence. An obvious start would to be outlaw high speed printing presses and electronic media, require journalists to be government licensed, and subject any crime reporting to government review. This is of course entirely reasonable, given current events. "Free press/speech" would not be violated, since (slow speed only) copy machines would still be available to duplicate and deliver a message, as would megaphones and soapboxes.

We can't be unnecessarily concerned with civil rights at a time like this – think of the children!

What I have to ask Piers is how many more children have to die before that pommy butt changes his mind. There is enough proof that the only real way to stop an armed person is another armed person, let the teachers have more options to self defense.

Here we go again, "pommy butt", armed teachers. They have to be armed because only an armed person can stop them right?
There is a frightening number of ignorant, insecure, uneducated or badly educated males out there. There comments clearly show that the lights are on, a bit dim, but there is nobody home. Piers and Anderson make good role models, watch them, learn to think through issues and come up with an informed view.

Your proposal, if extended to other peoples lives, indicates that at a basketball match 2000 fans would carry a semi automatic rifle with mags, just in case someone looses it? All traders on the Stock Exchange floor. All 100,000 fans at a sporting event. Wow, you could have a concession stand near the entrance, just in case you forgot to bring it on the underground with the other armed people, all of stable mind and passive of course.

Please try and put yourself in the place of one of the teachers standing in the open in front of a class of six year old children. The door bursts open, shots are fired, you turn see a semi automatic, military style rifle aimed at YOU. What could you do if you don't frieze with shock or hesitate? WHERE IS YOUR SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLE, HOW DO YOU GET IT, HOW DO YOU AIM IT AND FIRE IT WITHOUT HIM PULLING REPEATEDLY THE TRIGGER OF HIS?

Whats the use, I'm wasting my time . Those poor kids and teachers.

Due to the solemn events of 12.14.2012, the words unfathomable & unspeakable prove to be just palpably ineffective !

I've often imagined what I would say as testimony before an NRA panel or perhaps a Congressional hearing in regards to Assault weapon 'public' gun control !

Due to the events that have transpired, I now have my FINAL answer:

PROPER PERSPECTIVE CONFIRMS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH REGARDING THE OVERWHELMING & OVERREACHING LETHALITY OF ASSAULT WEAPONS.

TRUTH BE TOLD, FIRED AGAINST, EVEN, THE MOST EXPERIENCED OF WAR VETERANS IS NOTHING LESS EFFECTIVE THAN 'LEADING LAMBS TO SLAUGHTER.'

Let it be known to ALL who read, I shall go to my grave knowing the above statement to be resolutely factual, most truthful, and guaranteed for certain...

@Wyoming provided some stats, funny how no one is challenging him on the numbers....probably because he is correct. Data is hard to argue. Why is it the states that have the highest rates of gun ownership have the lowest crime rates? If Guns were the problem, as the liberal gospel mandates, then we should see really high crime stats in the midwest. Compare that with states and major cities that the Brady Campaign gives high marks for gun control.....anywhere Kalifornia, Chicago, IL, Boston etc etc...it would seem the correlation doesn't work there. Could it be that generations of poeple living in the big cities growing up without fathers and a culture of violence has anything to do with it?? More people died in Chicago than in Afghanistan this year...all with the strongest gun control laws on the books. And virtually none were killed by so called "assault weapons". It was illegal handguns....so how does Chicago have such a problem? Ummm because gun control DOESN'T WORK. Its much harder to address the crumbling social foundations of our society (declining morals, breakdown of the family structure – any family structure), than it is to just blame the object used in the crime.

Oh boy do I miss Larry King. Piers Morgan gets so nasty when he disagrees with a guest and especially tonight.
When I heard of the Newtown shootings I was saddened and immediately thought back to my own son at that age and then I thought of my three teenage grandsons. I would hope if ever someone evil came into any of their classrooms and started shooting that a teacher or security would be armed and perhaps stop some of the carnage. I remember back in the 90's there was a shooting in a Luby's Cafeteria and there happened to be someone armed who stopped that shooter. I believe it was in Texas although I'm not certain.
If only CNN can replace Piers for someone nicer, I don't care if they're Liberal or Conservative I would just like them level headed and able to put on a program without the sarcasm.

What is it that these "pro gun" people don't understand. No other civilised country in world allows such weapons and not surprisingly few other countries have people walking into schools and movie theaters etc shooting women and children on the frequency as the USA. USA police agnecies have weapons that equal a small army, most police in the world carry a hand gun and usually thats all thats needed. No SWAT teams, no police trained in miltary tatics.

The closest culturally to USA is Canada, they have less than 1/10 the shooting death rate of USA per capita basis.

Those who defend the need to own such weapons are murderers by association which in some countries will get you the death penalty. YEs the person could have killed with a car, or a knife, but how can you sensibly compare this to a gun that can execute and entire classroom of children in a minute and then move to the next. The 2nd ammendment was written in an era when it took a minute to load a single shot rifle.

You cannot drive at 200km/hr on hwy's, why because you might kill someone, but that doesn't mean all people who drive at 200km/hr will kill someone.

If all guns had to be insured through the NRA and the NRA to pay normal compensation levels to victimes, anything more than a 5 shot low powered rifle would banned tomorrow.

Is it ironic in USA that you lables must be placed on hot coffe mugs or temperatures of served coffee reduced to prevent idiots burning themselves, but buying a weapon suitable for destroying armies is legal and supported? Even Israel doesn't allow such weapons and you get 50 bullets for life on smaller after extenstive checking and testing.

This will not be the last mass murder in the USA, the idiots are not waking up to the real problem.

So now you can determine what others do or dont understand, as if your some mind reading genius!? I dont think so. Those who give up essential liberties in the name of safety, deserve neither liberty or safety. Ben Franklin. Where do you fit in? In my opinion you like to speak out freely, and in many of the countries like you speak of... You cannot. If we're murderers by association.... Then you commit treason with your words. Obviously you are not citizen of US or have not fought for the rights of your country voulentarily, so your opinion doesnt matter one bit. US citizens owning firearm is one reason why we have never been invaded! Probably most likely your country needed help of US at one time.... Which is why youre not speaking german. Your words are meaningless. And for the record, cars kill more people yearly in US than guns, but noone blames the car and tries to take away our right to own one. Stay living outside of US, while I enjoy my freedom within US, and will die fighting to keep them.

Shane, Your stats are incorrect; you need to do a little more research with the bias filter off. Your analogies presented here are also flawed. 50 bullets for life, is incorrect. Almost all male Israeli civilians between 17 and 49 must serve – they are all given full auto weapons, so yes you are correct in that their weapons actually hold more potential for collateral damage than our little black semi-auto American Rifle (AR) not assault rifle as you likely say. Sorry, but a 80,000 lb Mack truck could have instantly killed a classroom of kids as well. Your argument is in fact fundamentally flawed.

Thanks to Gary for setting Journeyman straight on the (para)military balance. The reason that situation doesn't exist today is because it did back in 1776 and we use arms to protect what is right for humanity. The 2A keeps that balance of power in check – meaning it keeps the government from turning its guns on you / us like they do in so many other countries in the world. Riot control in many countries is full-auto gunfire followed by street sweepers to clean up the carnage...

The premise that a government – and specifically the US government – would turn it's weapons on it's own people is incomprehensible anachistic garbage. I can't think of a single riot is a western democracy in which the partcipants were mown down with semi automatic weapons. Rioters are handled by rubber bullets, water cannons and tasers as authorities favour non lethal force. The requirement to bear arms in the event the US government goes mad is an anihilalist wet dream, a delusion based on an end-of-days wish, and the fantasy of war.

Gotta love people who try to sound intelligent by making broad statements which simply aren't true. US is far from the "largest" military force in the world. World War II, Vietnam, Afghanastan, Iraq were all proof that joint efforts also exist. So I suppose we should base giving up our gun rights, and freedoms based on your very skewed statistics? You spit on the graves of those who died for your freedom and rights which you are willing to give up so freely.
