I know gun regulatin is not the ansewer. And Mr Morgan my reason is what a government is capable of doing to an unarmed population. Such as yours did to the Irish people for hundreds of years.

Firstly – making no mention of the massacres in the UK isn't relevant....the conversation is about things that happen in the US – so apart from judging him for his accent (if he were from latin america would you require he talk about gun violence in the barrios?) – your point is irrelevant from understanding this specific tragic situation. Secondly bringing up examples about why he is against gun ownership being related to A) his being british and B) the british subjugation of the irish is ridiculous. As a brit, with 100% irish heritage and two history degrees on the matter...your pathetic commentary goes to prove the exact heart of the issue, a complete lack of education as to the causes and things we need to be discussing instead. What happened in the UK 100 years or more ago, has no relevance to this issue. Gun laws in the UK or Ireland have no relevance to this debate, they are inconsequential other than to mention – that in a country where to own a gun is illegal, the actual statistics show that un violence is significantly reduced. Furthermore – the irish rebellion had nothing to do with the right to bear arms. The origns were non violent -any anyone who thinks the IRA were anything other than organized crime hiding behind some sort of political or religious rhetoric is deeply uneducated on the matter. Talk to the hundreds of mothers and fathers, english and irish – who lost young children in the irish troubles, the bombs the IRA set off uhn the hearts of english towns and the bullets english soldiers fired into crows of peaceful protectors......you know nothing.....and the ral issue here is this....people are inherently flawed....even those who arent mentally ill - and if we are all flawed and capable of great anger and irrational behaviour at times – do we really want to take the human condition and all its emotions and put weapons into such easy access when our babies are at risk.....you know nothing

I agree with you James, Notice how Brit does not mention the brutalities leading up to the IRA rebellion.

In light of the continual news regarding massive shootings throughout our land, it is important to know Santa Clara County in CA has had successful programs that were highly successful in preventing violence. I am a MFT who has specialized in domestic violence and violence prevention using the Dept. of Congress' Exemplary program: Second Step. It has been proven over and over again that children who have gone through this program do not become violent.

The perpetrators of mass shootings have been reported to have had Schizophrenia, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and in some cases, Narcissism Personality Disorder and are usually males in their teens through their twenties. Schizophrenia is an organic disease of the brain. Personality Disorders are grown environmentally and may have some genetic predisposition.

Violence prevention programs, if they had been allowed to continue in our schools, would have been able to intervene early with children who had symptoms of developing such diseases. Counselors would have worked with teachers and parents to get early psychological and psycho-educational support. Violence that may have occurred in the future would have likely been prevented and future victims would be alive.

It is far easier to prevent such problems than it is to remedy once violence is learned and acted upon. In Second Step, I visited each classroom for 15-minutes with my puppets and other visuals for 8-12 weeks. I also was a part of all school assemblies and visited students during recess. I coordinated all violence prevention materials and verbiage so that teachers, principals, yard duty and other staff all used the same words therefore providing consistence for the children. The kids loved it and so did the staff.

    Violence prevention consists of:

    Empathy training
    Impulse control
Learning about emotions and how to handle them

All this can be in the form of games for children 4 years and up. Our school had peaceful recesses where other schools who didn't have our program had violent recesses. The population of students who go through this program were watched for several years. They continued to be violence free.

Why do we no longer have these programs? The grant ran out and funds were pulled. It needs to come back in our county and throughout our land. It doesn't need to be complicated. We don't need a 500 page manual. It doesn't need to be expensive. Part-time counselors can do the job.

I'm no longer in the schools but do use violence prevention strategies in my private practice. I educate parents and work with children and teenagers. They are so anxious to hear and learn.

I hope psycho-educational prevention will return and that children throughout our country and their parents will feel empowered and safe once again in future school settings.

    Thank you, Veronica Vitale, LMFT

I have asperger's and linking it to the shooter is totally wrong. Asperger's is a developmental disease on the Autism Spectrum and will be absorbed into the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in May 2013. We have difficulties expressing our feelings verbally but physically and in writing we are very good at it. I have never had a snapping incident in which i ever became violent and even tho i'm a fan of wrestling, i would never resort to violence at all. Please do not label this madman as having our condition. Thank you.

I was appalled tonight watching Morgan interview a grieving family and bombard them with the most moronic questions. Are you surprised your sister risked her life? How are you handling it? How did you feel when you found out she died? HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU FOUND OUT SHE DIED??!!? I couldn't believe he actually asked the last one. Let these people mourn! I realize they agreed to the interview but what were you trying to get out of them? Stop bothering them stupid questions so that you can get a story.

These people choose to talk. The best thing for them to do, mentally, is to talk about their experience. It is dangerous for them to keep it all inside. Piers is actually just leading to help them express themselves.

These media types , like Piers , have on goal ; to make the one they interview cry on camera ! That to them makes for a
" great " interview ! Katie Couric did the same thing on ABC ; Barbara Walters is the best at it ; she never fails !

I just have to note that I'm a bit surprised Ms Nancy Lanza is not included in this beautiful tribute. Ms Lanza was very much the first victim of this crime and while her murder occurred in a different locale than the others, I find it disrespectful that so much attention is being paid to the other women and children who lost their lives whereas nary a mention is made to Ms Lanza, whose death was equally tragic and equally deserving of posthumous tribute.

To show the global support and thoughts going out to the families of the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School, it would be really nice if people could take a photograph of a lit candle, stating where in the world it is, and paste the photo on the Facebook page of the school. I think the only way this will be controlled is by not producing guns, violent videos games and movies.

For the people who like to hunt they should put the animal to sleep and then do what ever you like.

To Steve Dulan....I hope you never in your life experience what these 26 families are going through right now. Your gun control reasoning makes me sick. You mentioned that the gentleman that did the shooting in that movie theater could have picked a theater closer to his home, but he chose that one. You claim that theater was located in an area that had better gun control laws, and yet he still picked that theater. NO NO NO.....he picked that theater because of the number of people that were in the theater.

I think Steve Dulan should live on an island with all the other people that think it is right to be able to buy guns that have the ability to shoot multiple rounds. That type of gun killed 26 beautiful people in Newtown, Ct. He should be ashamed of himself.

I live in a country that has gun control (no handguns, no automatic weapons). This country also has universal health care for every citizen. Until the citizens of the wonderful country of United States of America are willing to let go of their fears and recognize healthcare for all, illnesses, (including mental health ) is a right and that no one is safe without taking automatic weapons off the street, this carnage will continue...

@Carol G: I lived in The Netherlands for four years, so I know what you talk about when you mention universal health care & the ban of automatic weapons. I have experienced both cultures first-hand. But you need to realize something...you will NEVER get automatic or any kind of weapons off the street! Don't you understand that criminals or people bent on exacting any kind of carnage WILL get their hands on the weapons they want, no matter if they are legal or not?! These weapons will remain and WILL BE AVAILABLE to criminals or whoever wants them, regardless of whatever laws we pass for "gun control". Criminals will get them no matter what! It is only the law-abiding citizens who will have their weapons taken away, thereby making us more vulnerable than ever! If a criminal knows you are unarmed, how much easier will it be for him/her to execute their deadly plans?!! Think about it...if you know the other person could possibly have a weapon waiting for you on the other side of the door, wouldn't that be more of a deterrent than knowing the other person is unarmed? If the principal or one of the other office personnel had been armed, it could have saved many lives...and possibly the situation would have been averted altogether had Adam Lanza known the principal or other office personnel were armed. He knew there was nothing on the other side of those school walls to stop him. And that is exactly what will happen if guns are taken out of the hands of law-abiding citizens. How is removing guns protecting our citizens? We must protect ourselves. What next....outlaw knives when someone gets stabbed?? When will people understand that it is PEOPLE who kill people, not guns!! Lanza would have found weapons somewhere, just like any other criminal who seeks to hurt, maime, or kill others. Guns owners must be responsible in how they store & lock their guns, yes. But taking them away is NOT the answer!

      AMEN to this person.
Yes, the carnage is incomprehensible and should not have happened. When are we going to do something about mental health? It seems that mental instability is behind 99% of these horrors, but all we do is want more gun laws which criminals will ignore. Gun laws do nothing to mitigate the underlying problem of mental instability.

Piers, having grown up in Europe I'm fairly amazed that I've survived my 40 years hence in America, arguably still the Wild-Wild-West! While the "gun thing" is totally beyond me never mind the inevitable and antiquated "2nd rights" argument I was surprised to see a post by a friend whose an officer (and lawyer) in a large insurance company who argued that there are too many guns to simply dismiss; we shouldn't let emotions rule rational decisions and he ultimately deferred to the following book, whose author you may wish to entertain on your show... here's the link he posted for the book: Interview with John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime http://www.press.uchicago.edu
More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws, Third Edition. Let's be clear, I'm not pro gun however, my friend is a very educated individual holding a prominent position with a large insurance company ... when they relocated my car at the JFK airport to a lot which subsequently flooded, he determined that my car and 40 others were victims of "an act of god." I say god didn't relocate my car however, he won! I'd enjoy seeing his arguments on your show. Keep up the great work, best, Peter.

Just because this friend of yours is smart to game an insurance company does not make him moral or deserving respect.
Ask him "WOULD YOU BE SAYING THE SAME ARGUMENTS SUPPORTING GUNS AND ASSAULT WEAPONS IF IT WAS YOUR SON / DAUGHTER/ GRANDSON/ GRANDDAUGHTER OR LOVED ONE WHO HAD BEEN KILLED OR IF YOU WERE LEFT PERMANENTLY MIAMED AFTER THESE GUN CARNAGES ? " IF HE ANSWERS "YES", YOU SHOULD RESPECT HIS CONVICTION. IF HE SAYS "NO' , HE IS FULL OF HYPOCRISY!!

I commend you for getting their story out. It is important for these people to talk. They are not being forced to talk. Also, gun controls & bans will not work. If someone wants a gun they can obtain one whether there is a ban or not. We need to focus on the ones that commit these senseless acts. Guns do not kill people; people kill people. We need more education regarding warning signs of mental problems so help can be provided. Another thing and the most important, our nation needs to return to God. Evilness was the cause of this tragedy. Look how these parents talk about God. God alway creates good out of tragedy.

Gun Control will not be enought. I will say this over and over until I get heard. I had been besieged by a force that tried to compell me to kill everyone around for three months and I am telling you that this urge to kill was so compelling and terrifying. I overcame it because I was not and I am not mentally ill and also because of my firm belief in a greater power above which will not forsake me because I have a completely clear conscience, free of any wrong doing. Dr. Carl Gustav Jung is correct in his theory about the archetypes that emanates from our collective unconscious that can interfere with our activities and I am a witness to this truth. All these senseless killers were mere outlets of the forces of the dynamic negative archetypes that emanated from our collective negative thought energies and all these horrible tragedies are but symptoms of the condition of our collective unconscious. Dr. Jung had warned that the balance may tip towards the negative and these senseless killings that are now happening in a more rapid successions are indication that the balance is beginning to tip towards the negative. Andrea Yates did not use a gun to kill her five sons and she was but an outlet of a negative archetype from the collective unconscious created by everyone who believes that God can ask a man to kill his child. Guns are not the only way of killing. We have to address this phenomenon of the collective unconscious which is surely affected by all the violent entertainments that everyone, including little children who are playing with war-like electronic games blasting away their video image enemies, getting disensitized in killing a man. I was ao appalled when I saw my four year old grandson playing with such kind of a game and my condemnation was dismissed by my daughter, "Ma, it is just a game". How many more senseless killings are needed to take Dr. Jungs theory seriously? Please believe me, dynamic negative forces emanating from our collective unconscious is alive and well and are possessing the mentally ill with ease to carry out the act of killing that seems to entertain everyone when they are either watching violent movies or playing with violent video games. James Holmes is a very good example of this. We have a name for this dynamic negative archetype, we call it Satan and Satan is alive and well creating havoc to humanity and this will go on and on for as long as we ignore Dr. Jung's theory.

I'm screaming for CNN to fire Piers Morgan!! How dare he call people names and berate them just because he doesn't have the same view as he does? We don't go over to England and tell them how to run their country , so he shouldn't come here and do it. I have no respect for anyone who doesn't listen and calls anyone names. I don't care what the issue is. If you oppose it then without resorting to a 2 year old then state your reason. Larry King would never express his self in that manner, nor has anyone else at CNN. Doesn't matter what side of the debate you are on. Gun Control will never work in this Country. The Gentleman on this evening who Piers called both a Moron and a Idiot was almost right. You don't hear of these things happening where Guns are allowed. Today in the State of Pennsylvania gun sales have doubled since Friday. Both hand guns and assault weapons. Such as the Bushmaster and AR-15's. Why because people that never owned a gun want one before a ban takes place. So you can scream call people names and it won't change, people in America love their Guns. Right or Wrong the US Supreme Court said that it was legal for anyone to own one. CNN should no longer let anyone who acts the way Morgan does allowed to be anywhere near their "news" stations. I won't watch Fox News because they act as uncivilized as Morgan has. Anderson Cooper is the only one that has shown great respect for the family members by not saying the Killer's name. I will not be watching CNN anytime soon, now that I know they condone the actions of the people they put on Air.

    Dear Mr. Morgan:
Many of us are grateful to you for your coverage of the horrific tragedy at Sandy Nook. But please, do not turn your good journalism into a reality TV show. You border on being rude, and you interrupt people, mostly those who you oppose. I worry that young chlidren and young adults learn a style of communicating that impedes on any real and sustained understanding.

Why is it so hard for Piers M. to understand that gun control prohibited the teachers from stopping Lanza when he first broke thru the glass? 26 innocent lives would have been saved and and one potential murderer would have been stopped. Gun control laws do nothing to stop a killer, but does everything to stop self defense. Chicago is a Perfect example of Piers vision of a dissarmed nation.
