This evening, "Piers Morgan Tonight" continues our discussion about gun control and gun violence in America as Piers Morgan welcomes voices from different sides of the debate including Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, and CNN legal analyst Jeff Toobin.
Also this evening, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy and Congressman Ron Barber join the program to discuss gun policy as well as efforts on Capitol Hill to address this most recent display of gun violence.
Dr Mick North, whose daughter was killed in the Dunblane school massacre in 1996, speaks to Morgan exclusively from Scotland and gives his perspective on being a surviving parent and a member of a community who survived a similarly tragic event such as the most recent school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
And Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Welner give their analysis on the mental stability of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooter as well as their insight on the psychiatric profile of other perpetrators of similar crimes.
Tune in at 9 p.m. as "Piers Morgan Tonight" continues our coverage and discussion on this complicated but imperative topic.

Don't back down! Keep pushing those gun nuts....the more they talk... the more insane they sound! There is no reason to own a gun in this or any other democratic nation. We've had enough! What happened in Columbine, Aurora and Newtown is a disgrace to this nation. If the politicians don't get it right this time, the blood of all those innocent children and adults is on their hands!
I've said this before and I'll say it again: There are too many assault-style weapons out here already. The only possible effective way to stop this is to put a ban on the sale of ammunition for all of these weapons, and also to outlaw reloaders from selling and distributing this type of ammunition. If this cannot and will not be done, then nobody is serious enoght to put a stop to it. Gun control does not seem to work, because there are too many loopholes.
Exactly Mac! Forget the 'gun control' laws! It has never and will never work! Make it illegal to have possession of or to be able to manufacture the ammunition and stop this insanity! Don't hesitate for too long and make something happen!
This makes sence ban the amo if no bullits a gun becomes a hammer and a riffle a bat. Why is this solution is not being discussed more.
I think you came up with a GREAT idea....because like you, I agree,,,,there are too many guns out there allready....so limiting the bullets is a pretty brilliant idea !!! Good for you for suggesting !!!!
Actually that is a good idea. Best I have heard yet. Plus no more assault weapons, you can kill an animal with a bow and arrow no one needs them, not even hunters.
I'm sorry but all this gun talk is overrated it is not the gun but the people wielding the weapon the second amendment was laid Down to have self protection but the semi-automatic guns are to given to the civilians for the choice of, if the government is starting to overturn the power of the democratic rights of the civilians for them to create a militia to protect those rights from the erratic government and to protect from any type of invasion what we need is trained people or personnel in any system whether it be of work place or school system and for it to be harder to obtain these semi-automatic weapons and background checks being deeper into the history of that individual.
Gun control is the issue, but not the answer. The problem we have now did not exist 40 years ago. Stuff like extremely violent movies and video games didn't either. We had Lassie, Gentle Ben, the Waltons, and Little House on the Prairie etc.. Kids grow up watching this stuff and playing these games. We did have these guns then also but killing people wasn't entertainment. That stuff needs to stop. Maybe we also need to look at how we handle people w/mental illness and make sure they get the help they need.
"Deerhunter" yes that is right but now that we HAVE the problem we ALSO have to outlaw the assault rifles etc. and tighten the gun sale laws. This violent generation you speak of is going to be around for a LONG time!
Only guns similar to the ones existed At the time the second amendment was written should be legal. If you put AR 15 under the same gun definition what keeps you from claiming that a nuclear bomb is a gun too?
hmmm, its good that someone mentioned aurora, columbine, etc. all PSYCHOTROPIC DRUG RELATED! gee who sponsors cnn and liars like piers morgan, dr oz, fareed zakaria? BIG PHARMA! thats why we never get to the bottom of it and have to choke on how it feels for days vs WHAT IS. gee who can believe dr oz when he pushes vaccine poisons on other peoples kids and will not vaccinate his own?? http://www.infowars.com/big-pharma-agent-dr-oz-pimps-vaccines-on-public-after-not-vaccinating-his-own-children/ these people are calling for the more death of children here with gunbans while they are the same people who expect you to continue to pay for a fake war boogie man in the desert that kills children every day , WITH YOUR MONEY! and god should smile on people how? cnn can spin go any way they want but my bible doesnt say its good to kill other peoples kids and expect yours to be blessed by god and be ok!
My Bible says THOU SHALT NOT KILL. Maybe your bible says something else.
certainly I will happily help pay for a ticket to take piers back to you.I don't believe I want a man so immature that he calls people names on live TV. Seems to me he is just a trouble maker. As a country we are trying to solve some hard problems. We don't need Piers to tells how to do that!!!!!!!!11111
Shawn Polan (?) - great comment about the psych drugs! Refreshing to know other people notice that psychiatrists shouldn't be allowed to experiment on our kids (beyond the scientologists, and right-to-refuse medication/blood transfusion religions) . For instance, if a ritalin junkie and a ritalin junkie mate, will their children be overly docile? We won't know until that happens, but hey, we can always hype them up with an opposite psych drug, right? "bath salts, anyone?"
i cant beleive it simply cant beleive it. mr pratt excuse my language... just shut up! makes me sick to listen to him.
Piers, do you have armed security in that studio? Why? Why not my children?
You're so right! I simply cannot understand why there is such a 'mindset' in the USA whereby everyone seems to want to own a gun so that they 'feel safe'. Now there are so many young childrens blood on the hands of all those who support more guns! Absolute insanity! The problem will not 'go away' with more guns! C'mon people, change is now needed! Action is a necessity!!!
@mikey. But what action is necessary to stop such insanity and keeping weapons out of the hands of the insane? Also violent video games must be done away with to keep the mentally unstable from acting out their deranged fantasies.
not a "mind set" reality. and this should be about school security more than guns. tell me how tight your local school is.
but this dope Morgan wants to make us like the UK where break-ins at night are 9 times the US – guess whay – and where there have gun crime as well.
"A new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose by 40% in the two years after the weapons were banned.
The research, commissioned by the Countryside Alliance's Campaign for Shooting, has concluded that existing laws are targeting legitimate users of firearms rather than criminals."

I just watched CNN's Piers Morgan show. He's a terrible interviewer to begin with, and to be honest, I was just flipping channels. But I must say, after watching his show – what a ass. Go back to England or Scotland or wherever you come from. Good grief – name calling? Yeah, Mr. Morgan, you're not a journalist. Go home. You don't want to hear another viewpoint, so you not only talk over your guest, but now you yell and call people names. What a f'ing ass. Go back to your home country, and don't come back. Further, the only reasonable and professional person left on CNN is Anderson Cooper.
I totally agree. He is not even an American so it is none of his business what we do here. I agree that Anderson Cooper is the best on CNN
I do not believe in everything that the NRA says. I am a recently retired teacher and have practiced the crisis drills many times over. But, I will not watch Piers Morgan belittle guests on the show. He continually talks over those that he does not agree with and the name calling has got to stop. He needs to show more "give and take" in his interviews. I have taught that for years in middle and high school with special ed students and have had great success. Piers Morgan needs to change his bad habits or CNN should take him off of the show. This is probably the 10th time I have turned the show off because of his poor behavior.
The bottom line.....you can pass all the gun control laws you want & all you will accomplish is to remove weapons from law abiding citizens. There are a lot of sick & depraved people out there who can always get whatever weapons they want on the black market, not to mention the criminals who have them. More should be done in the mental health field to either help these mentally unbalanced people or else have them where they can be taken care of and controlled. Piers Morgan needs to go back where he came from. He is a blemish to journalism in general and CNN in particular. He has absolutely no manners nor self control on the air and I won't watch CNN again as long as he is employed by them. Surely CNN can find someone intelligent with a foreign accent that can participate in a discussion with someone with whom they disagree without calling them names and yelling like a spoiled child.
I agree with you. He is a jerk. Correction liberal jerk.
The way he handled this interview was unprofessional and pompous, but lets say this is a cultural thing, which CNN would do well to raise a notch or two. I don't own a gun, and am not a nutcase, but the gun owner interviewee had a point he tried to make, and I got it in spite of Morgan's ramblings and yelling. I'm convinced that if the brave school principal had a gun in a locker, and two or three other school staff as well had one, this would had a chance to end before it did. The government passing laws against gun, ammunitions, size of magazine clips, or restrictions for ownership, or gun registry, would not have prevented this crazy person of doing this terrible act, and will not prevent the next crazy person from doing this, with guns or anything else. Being prepared and ready for the worst at the school may have made a big difference – at least there would have been a possibility to make one, and may have saved a few lives. This is not so idiotic and repulsive if you think about it, is it Mr Morgan?
@erm1977. I also just watched morgan's pathetic display of an interview. Could offer nothing but name-calling, and certainly could not offer anything solid about gun control. Any kind of laws will not keep this from happening again – sadly. If he thinks that gun control is going to be some kind of panacea, then he must still believe in Peter Pan and the tooth fairy. He could only offer baffle gas and horse exhaust. His interview and the macaronic way he conducted it, simply made it worse. I don't think he has a clue.
Man you are right on about piers morgan, WHERE DID cnn find this stupid idiot. he is about as sharp as a marble . why doesnt he go back to england , Probaly because they dont want him either. It is very sad that those children were killed, but putting a ban on guns is not the answer. the crooks wont turn theirs in. people need to be responsible with their guns, dont leave them out where a child or a person with a mental problem could get ahold of them. But since i am talking about children being killed ,what about the Abortion doctors? They are killing 3000 BABYS every day. THATS 21000 every week . And Piers Morgan is worried about gun killing people.
Piers keep it up! Mr. Pratt is merely a prat.
Totally agree. Piers is rude, obnoxious and gives a terrible interview. He is very disrespectful Does not matter what the issue / topic is. We do not want to hear his opinions.
Keep up this unique and important work!! Don't. Stop!!
God heal the hearts of all involved. I agree with guyduplan
I fully support Mr.Morgan. People like the guy he interviewed tonight by the name of Pratt, explains why the great USA is suffering with this gun problem. I wonder if Mr.Pratt is getting a good financial picking from all of this support he has for those assault weapons, maybe that's why he is so strong in support of those dangerous weapons. I think Mr.Morgan is actually trying to make a point to the general public, keep it up Mr.Morgan.
Piers, I could not be prouder of you for expressing to your gun advocate guest, with eloquence, what I am burning to say at the roof tops!
I was a big fan of his show till Piers's ridicules/slanderous remarks. I am so disappointed in the way he has managed his show over the last couple days. Bowing to insensitive degrading remarks to guests that have intelligent arguments. NO LONGER A FAN. Not because of his stand but because of using bulling tactics to press his opinion.
mr morgan should have stayed at the mirror and continued his phone tapping and email hacking.a tabloid should be his only job
I agree. I was appalled at his behavior.
I agree Piers. I may agree with your position, but you reminded me of Fox News. A civil discussion should respect what the other opinion is. You did not do that. You got mad and lost your temper. I usually enjoy you, but you hit a low only equal to Fox News. I watch CNN for the respect you usually show...this has not been your finest hour.
Wow!!!! I can't believe how rude and unprofessional Piers just was! Especially since he is so uneducated on firearms and deaths. He is just trying to make a name for himself off the recent tradgedy! I will no longer listen to Piers's one sided, uneducated filfth! How can he invite someone on his show, just to try to tear him apart in the public eye!!!
Could not have stated it any better. Piers is a bully and one does not bully invited guests.
Why don't people site Canada as an example of a huge country that doesn't have GUNS!!!
Duhh; because Canada has millions of guns and just abolished the idiotic "long gun registry" that only law abiding citizens made use of while criminals ignored it.
must be nice to live where one is totally safe – too bad the rest of us dont have that luxury.
the real issue here is school security but you liberals keep babbling about guns like that's the answer.....LOL
Acts such as these are terrible. If I'm not mistaken, criminals and those who commit such violent acts never seemed to do such terrible things where there are those who carry guns. I could be wrong and I am not being insensitive but schools and other such places are soft targets. Criminals know this. They wouldn't walk into places with armed guards, police or others they know to be armed. I was told that at the movie theater in CO,it was the only one that banned guns in that area. Could that be the reason he chose this? Also, even with the ban in effect for ten years, crime rates and other statistics did not change during that time. At least according to the FBI and other sources. I'm for sensible laws but once you start to regulate freedom of any kind where does it stop? Why not put armed guards at schools, why not allow concealed carry permit holders to carry on site? Why not designate a police officer in each borough to the school?
exactly – go to the school where your kids are and be prepared to be shocked. I live in a town in MA very much like this town in CT and their school security is better. in my town sign on open front door says "visitors check in at office" – and that's it......
But lets face it this is liberals going after the NRA and the real issues are irrelevant – and this hack Morgan is disgusting
People are against assault weapons...ok it get it...but let's not over look that he also had 2 other weapons that was highly equivalent to carrying out the same if not more destruction. Lets eliminate the real problem here....people. The gun didn't do this act of violence. The mother with obvious lack of gun responsibility is part to blame. Lets look at the guy who stabbed 22 kids in china. The gun nor the ammo is the problem here. America needs to wake up.
Rick D. would you listen to yourself?? Your a complete idiot!!! Taking the guns out of all law abiding american citizens hands will comnpound the problem. Then the only ones with guns will be the crack pots and criminals. Do you really thinik that by outlawing all guns would keep criminals and mentally unstable people from acquiring guns? I am a law abiding citizen, a 25 year military veteren and a sportsman and when you come to get my guns, you'll have to pry them out of my cold dead fingers!!!
Hey Mr. Morgan and all Readers,
I just wanted to inform you that your perspective of the militia of the 16th, 17th, and early 18th century is historically flawed and grossly inaccurate. Your guests, some of which are fairly well educated, are wrong, too – or they are lying. In most colonies, militia being regulated was that all males, mostly 16 or 18-60, being armed with either a rifle, fowler, or musket (they are different), powder and shot, and a sword, bayonet, or tomahawk as a sidearm, would be inspected and trained for military purposes against Indians and other threats, foreign or domestic. These militias were expressly under the chain of command of the governor to the counties. These weapons were at times state of the art rifles or cheap fowlers for bird hunting. Regardless, if you transfer that to today's world, people believe the same – the 2nd Amendment is for personal, community, and all forms of defense, foreign or domestic. It is an American perspective, yes, but this militia system is based off of the English militia. Lastly, the murders with firearms...you may want to find out how many of those deaths to guns were in criminal on criminal violence, such as street corner drug hits and gang battles. You also may want to stop harassing Americans about their heritage and country, you don't get people on your side. I for one believe that schools should have mandatory armed guards in schools...retired policemen and military for starters. I have firearms and all forms of defense and I believe that if you want "assault weapons," you should go through police range and safety training. REASONABLE gun ownership.
Why don't we hear all the families crying?
" An inside look at how killing by remote control has changed the way we fight"
Piers! No reason to be rude to your guests, even when opinions differ. Let's pretend you are more than right, 2nd amendment repealed, govt confiscates all citizen guns but those for police use (on duty), security guards (on duty), olympic athletes (at practice stations and in events) and military (on base or overseas). This will accomplish NOTHING with respect to criminal element. Criminals don't respect gun laws and will continue to ignore them. And regardless of what the shrinks believe, mass murder is a criminal act. J.A.
rick d How many school killing back in the old west. When everyone owned a six shooter, rifle, or a shotgun. In the roaring twenties the school shooting with the thomas machine guns. Maybe instead of outlawing guns, maybe we should outlaw this generation.
Every think this shotting are a false flag? To remove guns out of the hands of real americans. Europe countries want america at its weakness. Obama wants to order material law when the econmy collaspes, if real americans are unable to protect itself against unlawful government acts.
Here's another thought for you. MOVE JUST MOVE its your right, BUT NOT A RIGHT TO TAKE AWAY MY RIGHTS cause your to scared to protect yourself. Move to another country that has gun law. Oh they have less murder by guns. Funny thing is they have more people dying from poision, dying from faulty brake system in cars, stabing, overdoses, dying from accidents at home, dying from house fires, missing persons...seems people are still finding ways to kill each other.
If you had enough of it. Move just leave....
Piers, keep going Peirs! We need people like to you to keep pushing to get rid of these guns. And don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't comment because you are British. We need you to comment for that exact reason, becasue the British are doind it right! Thank you.
Shame on you Piers! It is behavior such as yours that triggers troubled individuals to do the wrong thing. Peoples actions kill people! Be nice always. I'll keep you and others such as yourself in my prayers. You owe the American public an apology.
Er Dan, You got that wrong...it's YOU who owe the American people an apology, especially the parents and family members who are grieving over their loved ones murdered with guns in Newtown. Keep it up Piers...we are 100% behind you!!!
You're a joke – you were run off from your English talk show for falsifying stories and now you've arrived in the US doing thing taht English colonialist did hundreds of years ago –
You don't like guns? Take your sorry @ss and all your liberal followers back to the UK where you belong -
Hey how about keeping these dangerous psychotropic drugs out of society. Has'st any one looked into the dangerous suicidal side effects of these drugs.
This is going to cost your sponsers dearly... good bye! and stay gone
Piers, you ARE not an American...go away....save your opinions for your country.... all those that agree with you...let it be known, more of us don't agree. Do not over generalize Americans and call your opinions that of the "US." Poll ALL of America before you all over generalize. GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE!!!! PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!!! and for whatever reason they choose to do so, I hope that I have the same ability to protect my family and friends with weapons of equality. IF you don't believe in guns, don't have them! simple solution. Fact of the matter is that those of us who own them, and are not obvious psychopaths, should not have to suffer for your beliefs. Someday, you may be glad we held our ground, or maybe we will stand there and watch as you are shot while we hold our guns, and if and when they are pointed at us, we WILL shoot back......you might want to be on our side....if not, sorry about your luck!
Paula, why don't YOU stop watching Piers Morgan and understand YOU are not only a minority but are parading your ignorance, intolerance and very unamerican comments in a public forum. You are an embarrassment to all of the standards the United States was founded on! You would also be wise to watch your language if you don't want legal difficulties because you came awfully close to implying a threat. No one is forcing you to watch his show. There is this thing called a TV control. Believe it or not it actually has buttons o it that allow you to change the channel. I hope this new information is useful to you .
Those gun nuts you are refering too are mostly responsible firearm owners and US citizens.
As a retired marine I have served four tours in the middle east and I do not like to hear people call names other honest hard working Americans that all they want is to preserve the means to defend themselves and their families and their property. As a parent too I am very concerned about the security of my children in the school based on the recent tragic events and something needs to be done but not disarming the population. Evil has many forms. The bans will do nothing to prevent those, actually they will do quite the opposite, to provide easy hunting jobs for criminals and mentally unstable people. Be practical. Use simple logic and forget about sides and politics.
BRAVO PIERS!!!! Here is a great example of the American Nuts running around with a gun in his hands!! He is the reason America is so hated by the world. He can't let go of his gun because that's all he has a big fat gun in his tight fat greedy fist and that's his only power !! Ask him where his ancestors came from, maybe we can deport HIM to England back where his DNA came from. But somewhere alone the way he lost his mind and found his power in his little guns killing animals and threatening educated intelligent men like Piers Morgan. BRAVO PIERS !!!!
The primary issue is lost. Security of the civillian population is the concern. Who's responsibility isit? When state and government response time is not adequate, we want to be able to take action. Not stand there helpless to defend ourselves fro the bad guy that has a gun.
That is the primary reason for gun advocates. Personal protection. Everyone else wants to keep guns away from the bad guys. Good idea. How is that done without hurting law abiding citizens rights to bear arms?
Tedp, NO ONE WANTS TO DISARM YOU!!! Banning assault rifles ( high vilosity killing machines ) is not taking away your 2nd amendment rights...it is simply protecting all of our rights to be safer. You can certainly use all of the plentiful guns left to protect yourself and your family till the "troops" arrive. By the way how many times in the last 10 years ( or maybe in your whole life ) have you had to do that? Be reasonable! Thank You!
Piers Morgan I watched your show last night when you were interviewing the man about the guns. I must comment. I have never really cared about gun control. I always thought it is my right to own a gun. I have changed my mind after the Sandy Hook shooting. I think that some types of weapons should be banned. With that being said you are a popus jerk. If America is so bad and terrible and Great Britain is so much better then get the Hell out of our country. This country that you hate so much has made you a very rich man. I understand the anger about the shooting. It is beyond terrible. I was just having a very hard time watching you yell at the man you were interviewing about how other countries are so much better. Really, then leave I won't miss you!
Piers Morgan was already a rich guy before he came to USA. You should not mix Apples with Oranges regarding his claims that other countries are better than America. He was simply saying in reference to the guy issues. And that is ver true. Swallow it!
Yes he was probably rich before he came here. This country made him even richer. I know our country has problems. So many problems. I still feel lucky to live here. The underlining tone to me was America sucks you guys are stupid. Guns might need to change but so do people. It is a person who shoot those kids. A very sick person. I just get so tired of people complaining about living in America. Do you know what they do to women in other countries. I feel lucky to live here.
You are so wrong. Piers' approach is exactly what is needed here. That is why nothing changes here ever. This is exactly the right measure of passion and intensity that is needed. He obviously cares profoundly and is horrified by this, as we all should be. He simply has the guts to express himself the way we all should be doing. That is why things get done about these issues in other countries but not here. The gun nuts have controlled the tone and rules of the dialogue for so long it is about time others match their level of force. You are the one who needs to leave. We do have an epidemic here and it seems the only people capable from saving us from ourselves are people from other countries. I almost feel like the US is similar to one of those countries where the UN has to step in for humanitarian reasons and make decisions for the people and its government. That is how dysfunctional we have become, incapable of solving our own problems. Thanks to Piers for caring so much and being so passionate. It would be easy for him to just perform the standard interview and give lip service like everyone else does. Piers doesn't have to care, he could just take the money from CNN and go back to Britain some day as he watches the country further deteriorate. The sign of someone who cares is the amount of passion he displays. America needs a swift kick in pants to learn the right level and measure of outrage that it takes to move the masses and government and your kind of passion is desperately needed here.
mr morgan is an ass.go back to your own country
"it is about time others match their level of force" HOW IRONIC. THATS WHAT WE ARE SAYING. Interesting, Your priorities are a little out of order
Great to see that their seems to be a change increasing in intensity amongst a lot of Americans whereby people are now requiring some sensible action! Please don't leave any action too long, as there will most likely be a repeat of this terrible incident if nothing gets done! I hope you all put your politics and personalities behind you and that you are able to make some very quick change! Thoughts from us all in New Zealand and may you all have a great Christmas!
Morgan is as obnoxious and stupid as Bill O'reilly. CNN should be better than this.
Outrage...really? Gun laws will only be followed by law abiding citizens. If you come face to face with a madman with a gun, will you say glad I am not allowed to own a gun or will you wish you had one to protect yourself and your family. Answer it honestly. You gun banners are absolute idiots! Go argue with someone else. Maybe you should go with Piers to the UK for good!
The problem with Mr. Morgan is that he and his staff present inaccurate information. Americans need to make informed conclusions from these debates. Passion means nothing...good sense means everything. This kid who killed the children and educators was intending to kill himself and others. How do you stop persons like him who get guns illegally, which he did, killing his mom and stealing her legal weapons, who walk into areas without any means of defense? You cannot...police reaction time is minutes at best and vast killing can be done in seconds. Where SOME members of the population are armed, crime is less, MUCH less...FBI stats – look them up. It's not hard.
Piers Morgan's discussions with these assault gun activists are absolutely SPOT ON. He has every right to debate these people. It is his show on CNN, it is the right format and very appropriate, in fact critically necessary and I for one am very glad it is being said with such honesty, clarity, intensity and focus. As an American that has lived in other countries where these assault guns are banned, I am so frustrated with the position that many Americans hold like Van Cleave. They have held us hostage for so long and twisted the minds of so many who think it is cool to own these weapons that can slaughter massive amounts of people in seconds and then have the audacity to make comments like he did after little 5 year old bodies have been riddled with 3 to 11 bullets each. Even the panel of guests he had on after just can’t seem to express the right measure of outrage combined with compelling arguments that Piers is able to do so skillfully. Even the guy that was shot I believe in Aurora, when he was asked him how it made him feel, he said very subdued, “well I guess a little disappointed”. A little disappointed? I just can’t believe the lackluster response, he should be absolutely shouting his outrage from the rafters and then people would take heart. That is the only way things will change. Every single person on that panel should have been mirroring Piers's level of passion and intensity and for the life of me I can’t understand why they are not. So far, other than Feinstein and Bloomberg, I really feel Americans are still out to lunch with their level of outage. Even though this time feels a little different for now, guests on these panels should speak with a whole lot more conviction, emotion and force.
Stacy, who the hell are you to bully your sick view that is used for killing and killing alone. Piers Morgan is doing a great job in United States. Sadly most of our media is not independent or free if you did not notice. British media is independent and free. You better start getting use to it .... This is a global world. NRA is not God or Godly. Guns kill Stacy, guns kill.
Banning military-style semi-automatic assault weapons with high-capacity ammunition magazine that has only one use alone, it's not for sporting or civilian use. Why would any one need such ammunition in the first place unless they them self have been ruthless with others fearing revenge. Or they are drug deals and bandits them self. The average Joe/ Jane that most of are are safer with out such weapons.
Police officers and military people go through extensive training they are the only ones who should be having fire arms. With the epidemic rate of mental illness fire arms should never be in any civilized homes especially for those who trust in God.
Let your God watch over you and your children not Guns. Guns are used for one purpose that is to kill.
Grandma your laungauge offends me and for someone who is of age to be called grandma should know better. The gun did not kill anybody, the person holding the gun killed them. A gun is only dangerous in the hands of the wrong person, but is used as a last resort to take that person out. I would rather take a gun and shoot someone who walks in my home and threatens me and my children then let them have their way. That is my right as an American. God gave me a gun to protect myself. I choose not to be victim..
the police took a long time to get there.i had a police officer tell me that they are a reactionary force .in other words they react after a crime is committed.if you dont believe in guns thats your right but dont force it on me.because when things go bump in the night ,i dont have to be scared.i just have to grab my 9 mm in my bedside safe.i also have a 6 yr old daughter.shes the reason i own guns.
Who are you to call Piers Morgan a jerk? You are not hired by CNN are you? What makes you think we want to hear from you. We don't. So, just shut up.
youre right hes not a jerk .hes an ass
Piers Morgan IS a jerk! And a TOOL! That is my first ammendment right to say so!!!!!!!!!
Tonight was another really offensive interview. Piers used words like stupid and idiot. I'm not tuned in to watch that kind of discourse. I want inteligent persuative debate without sensational and emotional battering by Piers. I've turned off his program until he gains his professional composure.
Stacy you need to understand that it's not only people in the USA that are concerned for their children and that Piers was simply reflecting what many people outside of the USA would have been thinking whilst watching Mr Pratt. I know we don't understand exactly how it is in the USA but to be honest, more guns will not save more lives. No guns probably would! Action is needed and it does get frustrating when you watch people argue back and forward and nothing gets done! Forget the personalities and the politics, start protecting the innocent!
Stacey, I think you totally missed the point Piers was making tonight. It was not about "complaining about living in America". He was disturbed about the horendous atrocity that happened to 26 innocent people and how these things just keep happening and the fact that this man "Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America" thinks its more important to "bear arms", "any arms", which is wrong!! What in the world would the mother of Adam Lanza need with four AMR guns? Ridiculous. Furthermore, his whole argument has nothing to do with the amount of "MONEY" he has made either.
Andrea - I'm impressed, that you were able to find salient points when Piers Morgan was, even I'll say out-of-character, throwing a hissy fit at his guest. I only caught an editted version after midnight. I guess if I have a point here, other than to compliment your hearing, it's that criminals probably don't belong to that gun-owners association either. Can't blame legal gun-owners for what illegal gun-users do, can we? That allegedly high functioning, allegedly autistic, allegedly aspergers syndrome suffering/not-suffering at all, shooter, if he really was mentally retarded , finished high school, went to university, studied, drove a car, and maybe his mother was teaching him hand control (dexterity) by giving him video-games and taking him to the shooting range with her, perhaps even on the recommendation of his shrink? Sure, that's just a hypothesis, but I am CERTAIN, knowing none of the family facts, that his mum was NOT training him to be a mass killer. We shouldn't criticize her actions/decisions/judgement without her being able to defend herself.
I agree with you Stacey. Piers Morgan needs to find his backside on the first plane back to England. This country has made him a very rich ass!!! He's arrogent, inconsiderate, pompus and a loud mouth. Typical Britt!!! He doesn't realize that he's part of the problem. When is the last time you heard him report about anything positive?? Anderson Cooper is 10 times the reporter piers is!!!
Please investigate Michigan's Governor Snyder decision on "open carry" gun laws he pushed into law after Newtown, Conn. Please try to interview Governor Snyder, who is a "tea party member and in favor of all guns.
I have a comment to the guy who says cars and guns are the same. If you drive a car you have to take classes. Then to get a license you have to take a written and driven test with a professional riding with you. If he wants to say guns are like a car then make them take classes and tests. I am just talking about hunting rifles, not assault weapons. All assaul weapons should be banned. I come from a family of hunters and a town of hunters. My brother hunts with a bow and arrow. He does not own a semi-automatic weapon. All the NRA is about money and politics. This is not a political issue. This is a time for th people to come together and say "No more!". We are not going to let another one of our children die to gun violence.
It is crazy for teachers to have a gun in the class room, what if one of the children get hold of the gun and shoot and injured or killed a fellow classmate. Who will be held responsible? America is becoming a war zone. We need a ban on all gun, gun kill and guns do not have eyes. GUNS KILL. Gun should be in the hands of law enforcement and military personels May the little angels rest in peace.
Wrong, I have plenty of guns that haven't killed anyone. Guns don't kill. The person with the hand on the trigger kills. That's what every one needs to notice. Guns are not the problem in America. Is it bad what happened...yes...is it the guns fault... I think not.
Piers, thank you for all you are doing on gun control and especially for the interview you did Monday evening. I suddenly get it. The reason I cannot make any sense out of the gun supporters arguments is that there is really no rational basis for where they are coming from and how they think. It is totally outside of my sense of what is logical and humane. All I had to do was listen to him speak of how much of a thrill it was when people first shot an assault weapon and he said this as matter-of-factly as you could imagine. This was to support the notion that we must protect the right of citizens to have access to this "thrill" because the 2nd Amendment guarantees it. No prodding by you could budge him off that stance. And the topper, the real cause of all this violence is drugs which rob people of the ability to have empathy. Really, he said that with such arrogance and conviction and obviously could not see the irony of it. I sat there listening and it suddenly dawned on me, there isn't a chance in hell that these people are going to get it. They obviously live in a different world than I do. I will continue to work with you to get the people that can change these laws to get out of the NRA inspired clouds and do something that makes sense.
Well Done Piers! It's about bloody time someone in the media truly challenges and exposes the irrational thoughts, positions that defy commonsense with such congurence, commonsense, emotions. I am a dual citizen, born and raised in Canada. How can any conscious American not know, this is a culture of fear and agression. Afterall the U.S. favors being known as the world's military super power. If you grow up in this culture of agression, where apparently anyone
can buy a weapon, where violence is also promoted in movies, media, video games, with knowledge that your country has the greatest military presence in the world, what would one commensensically anticipate to be an end result?Police officers must undergo, extensive evaluations, extensive training, extensive background checks before he/she is EVER issud a weapon, Yet any miscreant can buy a weapon to commit mass murder at a gun "show". Why exactly do we need gun shows? If any weapons sales are allowed, they would desirably be conducted in a weapons retailers only, and they would be extensively monitored. In Colorado, marijuana growers are under video feed, surveilence by the authorities, from the growing, through the sales and these people are hurting no one, surely a video feed/monitoring of every weapon sale, by authorities, has a greater logic, commonsense, a much greater priority. Austalia is an exemplary example of taking action and getting results. I would like to see you interview the Ausies, Canadians, Brits, any and all peer nation Experts, bringing an objective perspective, to gun control, social issues. I wouild also like to see as well interviews with people such as Deepak Chopra and those who know there is another way. Who might have words, thoughts of healing for all us grieving. Great Job Piers! I am grateful to have your presence in the Media!!!
re: Yet any miscreant can buy a weapon to commit mass murder at a gun "show" - Good point there, man. There are already gun laws preventing "just any miscreant" from buying weopons, they are SUPPOSED to go through a background check, one to rule out convicted felons and psychiactric patients from acquiring "guns & ammo", but, as even one NRA chief said, if the database isn't up and running, all the states aren't putting the names into it, the database is flawed and effectively useless. Fix the database structure. Fund it properly (including security, so that only registered gun dealers have access to it) then impose that "mandatory background check" rule on the gun shows too (again, a position put forward by an NRA chief). No point in having laws if they aren't enforced, or aren't enforceable. Writing a law that sounds good, then doing nothing to make the law effective, or enforceable, that's exactly the sort of hypochondriac hysteria that makes Piers Morgan's january rants so laughable – saying you are banning something, and then proposing nothing to accomplish that ban is almost demented, and at best fraudulent
Jandyszakony perhaps we need to put some teeth into those laws and add some things too just as Piers Morgan is showcasing...and whether you like him or not ( many of us do very much and are thankful for his voice ) he did not cause the last 4 mass murders and he did not cause assault rifles to be used and he did not allow loopholes in our laws that permit gun sales without background checks. You should be thankful too that some TV personality cares enough about our children and our people to keep this emphasis going so things will change, all kinds of things. What can you do to HELP instead of hinder this movement? I am sure you have some good energy you could put forward in a positive and successful way to help insure our current laws are upheld and more complete measures are taken to make this a safer, saner country where firearms are concerned. I hope you will deceide to help!
In the interview with gun advocate Philip Van Cleave, he stupidly compared owning a Ferrari with owning an assault weapon. Assault weapons are made to kill.....Ferrari's are not. There needs to be a ban on assault weapons (period)! Leave these weapons in the hands of law enforcement agencies and the military.
And lastly, if Ferrari's caused as many deaths as guns, I would want them banned as well.
Pierce, When you interview one of these pro-gun experts next, ask them to reconcile these two positions:
The prospect of non-US allies securing weapons of mass destruction is a threat to our national security. The US, as a world power, should very proactively engage in preventing these nations from securing/developing such weapons, even to the extent of military intervention. This is appropriate, not only because of the direct threat to ourselves, but also because of the potential capricious, malicious use of WMD by those nations to slaughter their neighbors or even their own citizens.
Within the US, the ready access of all citizens to weaponry designed for mass killing of human beings is sacrosanct, regardless of the fact that the easy procurement of these weapons by deranged individuals has resulted in an unacceptable number of incidents of random slaughter of other innocent citizens.
I am a father, grandfather, and great grandfather, all of my family know and have handled guns, and i will continue to have guns, to protect my family, yes it is herrific what happened in aurora, and newtown, but the major question which has never and probably never be answered is "why this happened" since both individuals are not alive to answer any questions.
What happened to these individuals?
don't get me wrong i am a vietnam veteran and i was raised with guns in my family. and will continue to have guns in my family until the day i die. i know that if i had not been familiar with guns, i almost surely would have died in vietnam.
yes it is extremely appaling that aurora, and newtown transpired but we should never take guns (weapons) from ourselves/. we should do more to control weapon purchase no doubt, but should a control be forced on everbody. "NO".
Eugene, We do know for certain that one reason "why this happened" is that this individual gained easy access to sufficient firepower to commit this heinous act. We also know that exercising more control over weapons purchases, as you suggest, would contribute towards reducing future incidents like this. Is it not also reasonable that we should do something to exercise more control over weapons already in circulation? I'm not saying take every responsible gun owner's guns away, just exercise more control through regulation and enforcement (such as licensing and registration). I'm also not saying that this is the only action we should take, there are many others related to societal factors involved.
Eugene, what kind of guns do you own? I have no problem with the 2nd amendment. Owning a pistol, a hunting rifle, but can you explain the purpose of a owning an semi-automatic assault weapon, with high capacity magazines? Do really think that if the principal of Sandy Hook had a pistol for protection she would have stood any better of a chance against a mental unstable person with a semi-automatic weapon. We need to ban the ownership of assault weapons by the public, they should be illegal to see and own. Listening to Pratt, Gun Owners of America. and other gun activists in the last few days, I do believe they a nuts!
Eugene, so you went to kill a fellow man so far away from United States why? Did the Vietnamese attack you or your country? How many children did you kill, did you look them in there eyes? Did you feel there pain ? Did you hear there cry?
How does any one feel proud with a gun?
Hey Mary....go easy on Eugene for you know not what you are writing about. YOUR government sent our young boys to Viet Nam. They didn't have a choice! It was called the DRAFT. Don't ever blame them. You sound like the idiots that spat on them when they returned to the USA. They thought they were fighting for YOUR freedom.
Piers Morgan absolutely rocks! I liked Larry King but Piers is so much better. Finally someone with not only razor sharp logic but also such enormous courage and passion. One of the finest debaters I have ever seen. This type of intensity and disdain for these gun nuts is absolutely what is necessary to make them crawl back in the hole they came out of and let sane people take the country back. It is already working, Piers is truly making a difference in the debate. People who say it is rude just don’t get it. They can sit back and watch little innocent 5 year olds get slaughtered and barely show any emotion when coming on TV to talk about it, or say these assault rifles are fun – that beyond rude, that is tone deaf.
Piers Morgan is the best. Thank you CNN.
"it is about time others match their level of force" Oh, the IRONY
Piers' approach was rational? what show were you watching, Hansen? He was rudely, obnoxiously, throwing a hissy fit over the words of his guest, before his guest could answer a question. That's not interviewing, that's not debating, and that certainly isn't journalism. Don Lemon, also with CNN, is a far more eloquent and effective spokesperson for the "ban all guns in America" position, and no matter how much I disagree with Lemon's argument, I'll give him full credit for at least being professional and not whiningly speaking over his guests when he has them. The more Piers rants, the more his credibility as a journalist, correct that, former journalist, suffers.
to solve the gun problem is easy. restrict the number of bullets you can carry at any one time to 10. a max of a five bullet capacity clip and 5 bullets on your person period, it doesent matter how many guns you carry only 10 bullete total. if 2 guns you may have 5 bullets for each. a fine for carrying more bullets and or jail time of 1 year
That makes perfect sense.
This nutjob walked into a gun free zone and murdered 26 innocent people, because murder isn't already illegal.
Is this the Wild West? I can not comprehend that guns are needed for protection! This is one of the most civilized countries in the world, yet we need guns for protection! It is unfortunate that guns have so much "power" over people. What happen to ethics and values? Where are we going??
piers, go back to England, Your village called and their missing their idiot.
If EVERYONE has a gun when the police arrive how will they know who the criminal is? Mr. Pratt's view is just plain stupic!
ummmmmmm....probably one of the FEW the dead ones
the one with the most bullet holes
the criminal would be the one lying on the ground if you know what i mean
Piers, YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!! GO BACK TO ENGLAND!!!!
What chance would a teacher have with a gun when someone is shooting with and assult rifle? This guy is so far out, a sick student could get the gun away from the teacher and then the gun is of no help to the teacher. I have never heard of anything so bizzar.
if teachers , staff, etc are armed , and its well known, thats a deterrent Mary...just like at a police station
I cannot believe that such a "liberal thinker" such as Pierce Morgan or any so called "liberal thinker" would call this man from Britain that he's interviewing "stupid" for his opinion because in the end that's all Pierce has is an "opinion". Who's the idiot? Pierce Morgan. I pray he never finds himself in a position to defend himself.
This guest, Pratt has proposed the most ridiculous argument I have heard to solve school shootings. This man must have some sort of cognitive impairment. Teachers packing pistols amongst hundreds of children. As a teacher I must say...not a good answer!
This man wants teachers to carry guns!? What does that teach the children? How would you like to be 6 years old and see your teacher murder someone in your classroom?
how would you like to see the children killed?
or how would you like to be 6 yrs old, see your teacher killed, and 19 of your classmates, and be #20? EVIL IS REAL....ARM YOURSELVES
You must be a gun-toting cowboy! What an idiot! Teachers have enough responsibilities without becoming perpetrators of violence – the very thing they fight in schools! You are an idiot! Educate yourself please!
I'm watching your debate.. and I'm disappointed in Piers Morgan's lack of unprofessionalism. Calling a man stupid! Really, how old are you? Good job on dishonoring the falling by restoring to name calling.
Agreed. Piers is not facillitating a dialogue on this very important issue. His lack of professionalism is disgraceful to CNN.
I agree too and commented about it earlier. This isn't "America's Got Talent" or "Britain's Got Talent".
Piers Morgan is acting like a pompous ass tonight
GO PIERS GO!!!!!!!!!
Is this gentleman insane? I teach Kindergarten and i WILL NOT EVER carry a gun or have a gun in my classroom! I am a firm believer in "Everything I ever need to know i learned in Kindergarten." If more people behaved they way they were taught in Kindergarten, we would not have a 'Sandy Hook' tragedy. More guns in schools is NOT, WILL NOT EVER be the answer. Let me say i am usually a Fox News girl, but it is time for a ban on assault rifles. My heart is broken for the children who lived through this, the ones who lost their lives, and those who love them. Do not let these sweet innocent children and educators die in vain!
You Go Piers – first time on CNN I have seen an idiot called an idiot
Thanks Piers for standing up to that delusional, callous idiot.
I would very much enjoy watching your show Mr. Morgan but I cannot understand what is said because you constantly interupt and talk over your guest. Your passion for your subject is great but is lost when all you hear are two people talking at the same time.
Piers, the gun debate obviously means a lot to you and rightly so. It's your responsibility as a professional, though, to maintain civility when you have guests on who disagree with you. Ad hominem arguments are not convincing..you can do better!!!
Last time I watch PM. His 'interview' was nothing more than advancing his simplistic answer to our gun violence and his continued interuptions of the other debaters points and childish name calling was embarrasing. Gutter politics at its worse. I'll never watch his show again.
I second Steve. Bayou are an idiot. Most biased interview I have ever seen. Interviewers that lose their cool do not deserve to be on the air.
I have a renewed respect for Piers Morgan. What I just saw and heard spew out of Larry Pratt's mouth deserved everything and more or what Piers gave him. Larry Pratt is a very dangerous, pompous, short sighted, cold being. Disgusting. THank you, Piers for having him on, so the viewers could see the type of garbage that is being spewed, in defense of military weapons.
piers ,go back to England, your village called and their missing their idiot.
You have a good argument about gun control, and many of us hold the same line of thinking. However, it is not professional to insult your guests on TV.
Again Piers has another idiot on-Pratt. But this time he stood up and told him what an idiot he is. Piers, stand up in the same way you get Giullani or Trump on and they make stupid statemenets.
A job well done Piers. I support you on the argument all the way. We need to prevent a reoccurrence and act now.
Piers you will never get Americans to give their guns up as it in engrained in American culture and law. There is little difference between semi automatic hunting rifles and assault weapons so..... the lawmakers can sure limit clip size. Limiting clip size to 5 rounds will reduce the effectiveness of any weapon and is the first step in steering people away from paramilitary weapons.
I find your program very informational but your actions very unprofessional. You are rude to your guests and don't let them answer the questions you pose to them if you disagree with them. This is so rude. I have never seen a journalist or host of a program argue or call his guests names because he disagrees with their views. The many newscasters, hosts for example Anderson Cooper don't lash out at their guests. You really must learn some manners and act professionally like the others on CNN.
bravo for what, being rude "take your bravo buddy piers and go to england
I'm settled. People who are not in the military should not own a gun. It scares the crap out of me that there are more guns out there – right outside my door – than there are people, and I'm one of the only ones saying I don't need a gun for self-defense, I'm one of the only ones saying most break-ins happen when you aren't at home, and I can't understand the people that say having a gun means protection, when in fact this is just going to create people with happy trigger fingers. The fact is, guns kill people – people without guns get in fist fights...
Mr. Pratt needs to review Flint Michigan....one of, if not the highest, rates of murder in the country. Kayla Roland was killed at the age of six by another six year old. She was the exception to what is nightly weapon calls and death in this city. Last week a state police helicopter hovered over my home in one of the best neighbors in the city while searching for a young man who had an AK47. Frequently, cars will drive through a part of the city shooting at each other during the day. Look at Flint and review its scanner traffic..it is frightening...too many guns, no one needs an assault weapon...Pratt is nuts..
I can only say that I hope that Mr. Pratt, with his gun locked away, is confronted by a gunman. How much time will he have to tell the gunman "Wait a minute, I have to get my gun!" Maybe, in Mr. Pratt's society, every American will carry a gun in a holster, a la cowboy and be prepared for a gunfight in the street!! Mr. Street is about the most stupid person I have ever had the misfortune to listen to.
Piers has gone off the deep end even though he has the better argument. He's sunk to insulting his guests. What a boob! Over the the weekend he talked about having a sensible discussion, then he loses his cool with a rather mellow guest. He can't even tell the guy that crime, including gun murders, is high in cities irrespective of whether the cities have carry laws, because of population density. Anywhere populations are dense, there tends to be more crimes per person. Piers just wants to have his guest say something provocative, so he can get emotional and insulting, because it's his show and all about him really. The man is hardly a journalist, he has lost his objectivity and cannot go toe-to-toe and effectively shoot down the gun-nut arguments even though the arguments are easy targets. No wonder CNN ratings are in the toilet.
Very well said!
way to stand up to Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Piers for not backing down on the gun violence and these idiots that want to keep such dangerous weapons in the hands of anyone who choses. I live and work in a concealed carry state and I can tell you how well the backround checks work...we have a patient who has been through the court ordered commitment process on no less than 3 occassions and has been committed each time after making threats to "get a gun and take care of these people myself", once even making the threat in open court. I discovered about 9 months ago this individual had applied for and been granted a concealed carry permit. I risked my job to contact our local sherrif to share my concern and was told that they wished they had the information before granting the permit, but they could not revoke the permit once issued unless there was cause. I wish someone really would explain to me how a mentally il person who has been ordered for evaluation and hospitalization 3 times in the same county receives a concealed carry permit issued in that county. The background check process is a sham and a joke. When we say we must do something, let's start with keeping weapons OUT of the hands of people known to be dangerous.
Piers, thank you and well done in your interview with the appropriately named "Pratt".
You have earned my everlasting support & admiration
Piers you are a moron! These "assault rifles" as you call them are used so rarely in day to day crime you dare not mention the actual numbers. And this rifle you seek to ban was not even used in the sandy hook shootings you propaganda spewing freak! I wouldn't be surprised if you owned a large collection of firearms yourself you hypocrite. Just like the regular stories of congressmen and the like getting caught trying to bring weapons on a plane. These same hypocrites like you want to ban firearms because they have executive priveledge. Guns are here to stay and if the government tries to take them from law-abiding citizens in the name of freedom and safety you haven't even begun to see the bloodbath yet! You are the stupid one! Take your fake accent back to England loser!
Love the name Larry PRATT, mmmmmmmmmm very appropriate!,
How does a 5year old self defend themselves you moron/Pratt. Simple by changing the gun culture in the USA , next you will suggest if criminals get their hands on RPGs we should all get one including teachers based on the second amendment for self defence cannot wait to get to Walmart for that! You and your NRA friends are a cancer latching onto and trying to hang onto an archaic 2nd amendment
Go Piers...my rights should not be denied or the rights of 26 angels, because they bark 2nd amendment rights
, what about the right to live. Don't tell me that our forefathers expected 300 million guns in this country when they didn't even know of assault weapons and multi-capacity clips or know, that cars have more regulation. I am sick of those that say I have a concealed weapon permit , like its some badge of honor, really you are special, who cares. He killed 26 people in two minutes. Your microwave dinner takes more time than that. Multiple weapons on homes, really WHY. So piers keep going strong. NRA wants a press conference Friday, they should be blackballed....
Wow! So glad to see Piers stand up to that idiot Larry Pratt.
As a retired teacher, I can see nothing positive to be gained by arming teachers with guns. It would be so easy for a student to overpower a teacher and obtain the gun. What kind of message are we giving our students if we arm our teachers? Mr. Pratt seems to think that the more guns in our country, the merrier.
I am very much in favor of reasonable firearm regulation. Piers is doing nothing to facillitate an honest debate on this very divisive issue. Piers' lack of professionalism is hurting those who favor reasonable regulation and playing into the hand of the NRA. Calling guests "idiots" and "stupid" and interrupting and making speeches is totally counterproductive. Piers' interview "technique" is appallingly bad. CNN you can do better.
Piers Morgan – Jerry Springer with a Brit accent.
PIERS, PIERS , PIERS!
I'm an elementary school teacher in Virginia Beach, Va. OMG, do we ever have a problem in schools!!!
If you post my name, I will be fired. I could give you an day's worth of info regarding the the lack of discipline and decline of values in the education system. It's out of control and I keep telling my husband, "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET! The calibre of kids, where the word "NO", is forbidden, where everyone gets a certificate or ribbon for just being present... YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET!
Bravo. If guns are required for protection then they are not much good if "responsible" gun owners lock them away.
Piers, Was waiting for you to ask Larry Pratt how he plans to arm the young ladies like Vicky Soto. Is she to strap a glock on her hip or wear a shoulder holster under her jacket? They even make "bra" holsters!! He would have looked even more the fool trying to explain that one.
Piers Morgan is a rude unprofessional interviewer who will not let people who he invites to interview to speak. He just can't take anyone going against his point of view, only he is right, so ridiculous, I normally change channels. I wish I could call him names, but I would just bring Myself to his low level.
I agree completely. I am very much in favor of reasonable regulation, and I think Piers is hurting the cause.
He kinda cut off Dr. Oz too!
While I essentially agree with Piers Morgan's opinion and admire his passion, he falls far short as an interviewer and moderator. I wish he would follow basic principles of moderating and allow the participants in the debate to speak, interjecting to manage the flow and a fair balance of time for the conflicting opinions to be presented and supporting arguments to be made, rather than to present his own views. If this is done well the weak arguments will be exposed as just that as the presenters hang themselves and shatter their credibility. Piers unfortunately allows his zeal to dramatically diminish his effectiveness as an interviewer/moderator.
Good for you, Piers! You're the voice of sanity that America needs now. Keep at 'em!
Piers:Thanks for your strong arguments tonight. You were very brave and made the point with
that guy who said more guns will make things better. More guns is crazy. I for one thank you
for coming to the USA. Don't go back. We love you on CNN. Please don't get high pressure
(as it appeared tonight). We need you now....you are a great fighter of these "more guns guys".
Keep it up. Please keep up the fight against assault guns.
Piers: I love you and could not agree with you more but please temper the approach with less emotion and more facts. I fear you are empowering these clowns, something they’ll use to make their case to those we all know make up a healthy portion of this great land.
Well done. Wanted scream at the top of my lungs at this moron
These guys usually get a lot of air time because nobody wants to ..press wise... Challenge them. Just allowing them to report the facts mame. Not willing to compromise their careers. so these morons get to actually speak their little paranoid peonic Minds...further spreading their tiny little paranoid thoughts.
Piers, I liked the way you handled mr Pratt and calling him an idiot was the right thing to do. Good on you! Hats off to you. I don't understand how people can be so incredibly stupid. As an American living in Canada I can say that I am glad that I live in Canada where the second amendment doesn't exist. Keep up the good work!
With all due respect, the tone and rudeness you have shown to your guests who oppose your views is overly aggressive and demeaning. Is that not ironic? Name calling and accusing people of being horrible people becasue they dont agree with you is simply rude. THese are guests on your show. Certainly civility or its lack is a contributor to lack of respect and a glorification of aggressive confrontaiton. Is this not also a root of vioence" We should treat both people and our firearms with respect and responsibility. You are modeling bad interpersonal behavior, only escalating aggressino and conflict. The events are tragic, as tragic and disturbing for those who value gun rights as for anyone else. However intelligent you seem and however much other interviews have been enjoyed your rudeness is inexcuseable and irreverant to the mourning of our nation as the snickers in respons eto your not allowing people to finish their thoughts as you rant. The accusations of moral bankruptcy are unecessary, how would you oike an accusation that your drama is merely adding profits and ratings to your already inflated salary and exploiting tragedy for sensationalism, or that seems to be part of the traditions of the British press", or that you and the paprazzi are simply profiteers and contributors to notoriety of villains and contributors to the death of your princess? A discussion can be had about opposing points of view or startstical twisting of the fact without the nonsense you are engaging in. Perhaps there is some truth that an armed society is a polite one.
Agreed. It just gets worse some nut is on there talking about gun owners not having normal brains and torturing animals! One thing for sure...Piers Morgan is no AndersonCooper who knows how to elicit information from his guest without screaming and name calling.
"You are modeling bad interpersonal behavior, only escalating aggressino and conflict." Well said!!!
Mr. Morgan's disrespect for Mr. Pratt (calling him stupid) is not called for, nor professional, and I find it disgusting. I don't own a gun, but welcome debate among reasonable people. Mr. Morgan has proven himself to be a zealot who can not comprehend the logic of someone who does not agree with him.
I agree with you on Mr. Morgans way that he even spoke to his guest. I understand that he may not agree with his guest, but he was COMPLETELY RUDE and NOT the example that I would want any of us to be represented on this topic. He was not leaving the gentleman the opportunity to hear his response to the question THAT HE HAD ALREADY ASKED....It is a SAD DAY for MR. Morgan today...HE JUST LOST MY RESPECT!
Thank you! I was hoping for a civil debate on the topic and all I saw was ha rude host, screaming at his guest and calling him names.
Again people are obsessing over terminology!! I don't care what one calls a firearm, whether is a rifle, an assault rifle, a pistol , a shotgun or carbine. . . . .whether automatic or semi. . . . whether it has a pistol grip or a grenade launcher!!! we are getting sidetrack!!! just ban any weapon that has more than 5 rounds and has a removable clip. Tax ammunition out of existence (like cigarettes), Tax primers, casings and gun powder (for the home reloaders), require a license and waiting period to buy (the expensive) ammo. Limit the amount of powder (and power) in the bullets (grain loading) so to make em weak, also make them frangible and ban jacketed bullets. You can no longer buy Ammonium Nitrate based fertilizer (only Urea)for fear of bomb makers!! but why can one still buy gun powder and bullets , a most ubiquitous explosive!!!? Why? "Remember what killed the Hummer, gas prices!!" Kill the Ammo
Not a bad idea actually, taking the power out of the bullets, taxing them etc. Even if we banned all guns tomorrow we would never be able achieve a gun-free America. Never. But bullets are expendables and need to be replaced. And I think they "go bad" in a way, over a long period of time, due to chemical degradation of powder/primer and I think the brass becomes unreliable too; not sure though. Or limit the amount of ammo a person can buy in a month. There are one gun a month laws ...
Dershowitz brought up some really good points I thought. But alas Piers barely reacted to them.
so, what you're saying is that it's ok to only let the rich have firearms????
doesn't that leave our government with the afforded opportunity all of us cannot have????
Though not the Federal Supreme Court, the Georgia State Supreme Court found, in 1837, that "the Second Amendment guaranteed “the right of the whole people, old and young, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not merely such as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in on, in the slightest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying of a well regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free state.”
It does demonstrate that the interpretation of "the People" in the Second Amendment was not necessarily held to be the governments of the states, but individual persons,
As usual this left wing hack Morgan blames gun owners for all illegal gun violence and wants to take OUR guns so we will be like the UK – defenseless.
How about we talk about school security you idiot Morgan?
Agreed . I pick my daughter up from school everyday, and it bothers me that her school is so open.Hop a 4 ft fence and an auditorium door is less than 20 ft away.We americans are so blind about the dangers around us.Our schools should be a place of safety.Safety means preparation. One of the things I havent seen anyone address so far is,that if an awkward 20 yr old misfit could cause so much carnage .Imagine what terrorists could do.Schools are a gun free zone.Evreyone knows this. Its also known as a shooting gallerie to sick deranged individuals .Absolutely no resistance.Heres an Idea. Why dont we give ex navy seals ,green berets etc. a free teaching degree.then we would get many benefits out of it.a quick reactionary force to protect our children.and a lot of respect from students.
I live in Canada and can't believe the resistance on gun control. I understand and agree with upholding the second amendament, however there is no need for any type of assault rifle or any magazine that holds 30+ rds of ammo. Here in Canada we are by law not aloud to have any more then 4 rds in any type of shotgun. Any type of assault rifle is also banned. I am an avid hunter and shooter who has no problems with the restrictions that my government has imposed. some of these gun advocates on the show are complete mourons! How can they possibly think more guns is the answer to gun violence. I wish all americans the best on the subject and hope everyone can come to a resonable solution. Canadas hearts and prayers go out to all involved in the Newtown shooting. God bless
that's why you live in canada and we live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! mind your own business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, it is our business. We are your neighbours and the no-gooders come it - think before you slam us!! Maybe you should follow the example of countries who don't have such mass shootings as you do... But let me guess... It's more important to sat that you're American and FREE even though you live in a constant state of alert to any gym violence.... Is that really living or waiting to
"it is about time others match their level of force" – again, HOW IRONIC
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Piers Morgan. And, CNN, please show your backbone when the gun rights radicals come pounding on your door calling for the oust of my newest best hero!!!
I BELIEVE THAT WE ALL NEED TO DISCUSS HOW WE PREVENT THESE YOUNG PEOPLE FROM FEELING LIKE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT THEIR VOICE CAN BE HEARD!!! MAYBE WE ALL NEED TO STOP FOR ONE MOMENT AND START PAYING ATTENTION TO OUR YOUTH!! START PAYING ATTENTION TO THE SIGNS THAT ARE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACES. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE BEING BULLIED, SAY SOMETHING. TEACH OUR KIDS TO EMBRACE SOMEONE FOR THEIR DIFFERENCES INSTEAD OF MAKING FUN OF THEM. TEACH THEM TO "BE THEIR BROTHERS KEEPERS"...TO HELP OUT AND REACH OUT TO THOSE WHO MAY BE "LONERS" OR "DIFFERENT". TEACH OUR CHILDREN THE TRUE MEANING OF COMPASSION. The generation of kids today has lost touch with what is real and fake. Get kids out and get them involved in their own communities. SHUT UP ABOUT THE GUN CONTROL ISSUE FOR A MOMENT, AND FOCUS ON THE ISSUE AT HAND....OUR KIDS TODAY NEED OUR HELP...THEY ARE BEGGING FOR IT....THEY NEED PARENTS, COMMUNITIES, AND YES MR. MORGAN EVEN YOU TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE YOUTH...SHOW THEM THAT THEY MATTER...GET INVOLVED WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY INVOLVED!!!!!!NOW, for our 2nd Amendment...It is MY GOD GIVEN RIGHT IN THIS COUNTRY TO DEFEND MYSELF...I don't like having guns around my house, yet I STILL BELIEVE that I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEFEND MY HOME!
Ps.. Mr. Morgan...YOU LOST MY RESPECT TONIGHT.
I was hoping to hear a civil and enlightened discussion on this topic, instead I witnessed the host bait, berate, and harangue the "guest". Honestly, I thought I was watching a second rate version of "The View." When you wonder why there's so much hate in the world, just look and listen to the discourse between the host and their guest. Politicians running for office, we just witnessed this at its finest during the Presidential Campaign. It's hard to understand what the issues are when people are not able to hear both sides of a problem when there's nothing but screaming and yelling. Piers, if you find it hard to hold your "rag", then you need to find another job. You were a rude host, and kept me and others from being able to form our own opinion based on the information presented. Oh, yes...I believe you were the first to raise your voice and call you guest unflattering names. I found it hard to believe... that you told this man that he enjoyed the deaths of these children.
Do you realize that yor a total ass, you have protection, your against children having protection. What is your answer to stoppingthe sick and angry from killing with whatever they can get there hands on. Give us the answer genius. Oh you can't, shut your hole unless something constructive can be formed in your gun hating brain. Soon only the criminals will have guns, good job dumbas*
Wow! you have such limited vocabulary! You must be a gun-toting hick! If you can't handle the debate, don't watch it! You are the ass... and by that I mean totally stupid....
Piers, although I appreciate your passion I was irritated at your interview. You know what Mr. Pratt's stance is going to be. Let him speak without interruption then offer your response if you must. Don't call your guests names. That is very unprofessional.
Courage to say what must be said, not with media composure but with the raw emotions we all feel–thank you Piers.
The fact is, if you eliminated all guns, there would be no reason to 1. defend yourselves with one, 2. no reason to be afraid of dangerous people, and 3. no complexity on how to control guns. If your country was in peril, rely on the military to take the public's side. What will keep the armed teacher from killing someone else or a student? What keeps the officer from shooting an innocent person? What keeps you from hunting accidents? What keeps you from shooting an ex, or a spouse, or your kids? ANSWER – NOT HAVING A GUN!
Instead of coming up with complex rules, or placing blame on groups of people, I would rather see us eliminate all guns from the United States – that would fix all of this. The fact is, there are too many people with guns. It's not just mass-shootings, but every day someone is murdered by a gun from a criminal. It's not simply a mental health issue. It doesn't have to have complex rules. Just make guns illegal already...
Awesome, eliminate the guns....obviously you are afraid of guns and were not brought up to respect them or use them appropriately! I have no problem with the people like you who want to get rid of them. Just remind me, who happens to be a law abiding, concealed gun carrier, that if the time arises, I will let the bad guy shoot you before I shoot him to save everyone else....seriously, remind me!!!!!
LIKE YOU SAID>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>A CRIMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why does a British journalist have any say in American laws? If he is anti American he can go back home..... I live in America for my rights. Someone from another country has no right to even think about taking my rights away. Our country was founded on these rights and to repeal them is ludicrous. Gun control will do nothing but put more American lives at risk. If a criminal doesn't have a gun they will use whatever they can as a weapon to carry out their intended crime. No one seems to reporting the incident in a theater where an armed, off duty officer took a gunman out with one shot and the only life lost was the criminal. Why? This makes guns look beneficial and the liberal Nazis could never let guns look good, for it defeats there communist agenda. I live in America not a communist country. Take you communism and go home.
Kathy – you live in ignorant bliss! And Piers is an intellectual, a professional and can debate more that you seem to be able to. What a country is based on is not necessary the direction it needs to take consistently if it puts it in danger. And the USA is in danger. If you cannot see that then you are blind or indifferent to the increasing violence and mass violence that is occurring in your country. I hope that you do not face losing a child to this type of violence and say" Well if I had a gun.... " violence does not erase violence- you are perpetrating the problem and you are the problem. Think twice or even more about what a weapon really means. It was not to protect but to kill. If you want your children raised around a war zone, I feel very sorry for you. I definitely don't mine harmed because I could not breathe any common sense into my countrymen. Shame on you!
I take pride in believing and standing for the rights the Founding Fathers of this GREAT Nation put in writing to protect this nation form people like you. How do you think the "Cold War" ended? By deterrence! Arm the people who choose to be armed and deter the criminal who will think twice before they commit their crime. The criminals are the issue not the guns. When a drunk driver kills someone the car isn't to blame, the individual is prosecuted not the Ford they were driving. The blame is being placed on an object for political gain instead of the real root cause of the problem, the criminal. You cannot expect a different outcome without treating the root cause. The root cause is not the object but the criminal that will always find a means to commit his crime. Capital punishment should be swift once an individual is found guilty. Purge society of the criminals and use my tax dollars to fund treatment of the mentally ill before they can become criminals.
ALL i can say is THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!! can i still say that???
Thank you Mr. Morgan for exposing those, Pratt and others, who think that civilians should have access or own an assault rifle as the idiots they really are. I support a ban on such weapons and would like to see our country follow the hard line that Austrailia did in 1996. That sort of common sense approach is the only way to end this nonsense. I work in a state (Louisiana) where you can go to a local Wallmart or Academy and within a very short time walk out with a Bushmaster as the type used on Conn. It is scary. Also arming teachers, is a stupid approach. Why can't we get it together? Second amendment..really. Are the british coming again? Keep at it Mr. Morgan. Don't let this be swept under or hidden by the NRA.
OK, this it. I've had it with Piers Morgan. I'm over his constant over talking to those he does not agree with.
I'm over his rudeness, his way or the highway. Please send him back to his lovely England, where his reputation was not sterling. He's rude, opinoinated at a fault and his accent isn't really that cute. I'm a gonner, until he is gone.
Basically does not reflect positively on CNN.
It really is sad, no terrifying, when it takes 20, 5 year old children to be brutally gunned down for America to start talking about gun control. You people live in a cesspool of fear and any of you who defend Pratt or those like him ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Moore had a talk about this 10 years ago and predicted that something like this would happen and lo and behold look what happened. The police are the law and are armed for a reason, they are the wall between crime and the public. It is their job to control crime not the public's. Self defense is a necessity, a handgun fine, military grade assault rifles, hell no!
I'm saying f-it. I'm tired of being scared because of people with guns. It's not just mass shootings, but crime all over the nation. It is only possible because of ANY GUN, not just because of assault rifles. I'm all for seizing all guns from people. Who gives a crap about mental health issues when we already deny mentally ill people from owning guns? It's not going to stop it by adding extra complications...
My fellow Canadian, you are so right... I guess the USA is the only country in the world who does not understand the real purpose and danger of guns.... Tragedy will just keep occurring in that country. We are so much better off in Canada! Much smarter on this topic!
Piers, Keep the good work.... I feel sad for the kids .... it needs to stop ..... Gun lobbyist are white collar taliban ... who want to hide behind 2nd amenement the way taliban hides behind sharia ...
I just watched the interview with Mr. Pratt and I am just shaking my head. I believe in the second amendment and have always hunted with my family. I do however believe that there is no reason for most civilians to own these assault rifles etc that were used the other day in Newtown. I recently retired from a school district after 30 years as a secretary. I have worked in a high school and 2 elementary schools and lastly in an administrative office. I also have a son in high school and I must say that the idea of knowing my son will go to classes all day long knowing there are guns in each room isn't appealing to me. My husband also works for this district as a custodian in an elementary school. When I think of how many times both my husband and I have found 'lost keys' misplaced purses and sunglasses etc it is amazing. Teachers are also in charge of making sure they lock up a cleaning chemical they use on student desks if they have requested it. They are told to keep it high or locked in cabinets....most importantly to keep it out of reach of children. They sometimes forget due to their busy schedules. I can only imagine where we might now find loaded guns. I believe if you have actually worked in a school you would understand that. I also have visions of a gunman entering a school and classrooms and the teachers in a panic thinking 'where is that gun....what cabinet is it in? Where is the key for the cabinet?' etc........I think it could end up even.worse. My heart breaks for those families of Newtown and I appreciate being allowed to share my thoughts.
In nevada, schools have armed guards, and teachers are paid a yearly 3000 dollar bonus for getting their carry permit.
Pierce keep calm! If someone is pro gun they have never lived abroad where we have freedom of fear. We should feel sorry for them. Americans that have never lived abroad will never appreciate the staggering difference in statistics in gun related deaths. Many people only get to see guns on American films, not in their family's backyard. When you have a break in the house or a mugging in a non gun culture.. Like I have experienced, it takes crime to a different level. Noone feels the need to have guns to protect themselves cos they are reassured they won't be faced with one in the first place.
After listening to Mr. Pratt, I can safely say that I am happy that no NRA-type organization in Canada. I would have hoped that this man was under the influence but his lame argument of more guns means safety is ludicrous. Allowing people to get more guns to defend themselves, to raise their children in a war-type zone is absolutely immoral. The second amendment was created in a time when the USA was under attack... People used muskets – not semi-automatic or automatic rifles that can spit out 30+ bullets for mass destruction. Protection does not come from guns. It comes from knowing that only law enforcement or military personnel carry them. How can you say that there will be less deaths when more weapons are available? Why should children grow up having to see or even touch a gun. Is this what America wants its children to think about every morning? About the possibility of a gun being shot at them or their parents or friends? How could any in their right mind show such callousness for human life and call that freedom? You have imprisoned your people in thinking that guns are necessary for safety. I totally agree with Piers. This man was an idiot and a very dangerous one at that.Very bad combination.. Sounds like Bush... I truly hope that the American people will think twice about living their lives in constant fear because more guns means more FEAR! If they want a change, then fight for it. Don't let NRA tell you that you are safe only with a gun! It is propaganda and a true shame! Like Bloomberg said, the USA is the only industrialized country that has mass shootings of this sort in the WORLD! Surely that is not a thing to be proud of! Do something! Only peace can be positive in your children's lives – not weapons! Weapons are just that – death tools, and they are rarely used in self-defense. That is the most lame argument – self-defense- that could justify having a large buffet available to everyone and anyone!
I agree with Marie France. As a Maritime Canadian I have yet felt the need to purchase any rifle or gun, even though my husband and I have 1 handgun, 1 shotgun and 1 rifle with a normal magazine for 6 catridges. The rifles are used for hunting big game and which are placed in our freezer for our consumption if we are lucky enough to be successful during our hunting season. I wondered if the NRA played any part in the failure in Canada of the licensing of hunting rifles in Canada. Sure would be interested in finding out. Keepup your efforts Piers. You are needed..
So the answer would be to put metal detectors in all schools, and double doors, etc, etc?? What happens when the kids want to go outside to play at lunch time?? What happens when the kids want to go home?? Anyone could be waiting with a gun for just such a moment.
Piers you have forgotten your role. You are no better than Rush Limbaugh. Calling your guests "idiots' and "stupid" is so very unprofessional. I am very much in favor of reasonable regulation of firearms, but your approach is hurting the cause. CNN, please tell Piers to clean it up!
Why do cops carry assault rifles? Do criminals have them? Why don 't you discuss Fast and Furious which was thousands of assault rifles? It would be interesting for you to interview criminals on their view of a ban. Are you discussing a ban on future purchases or banning possession in its entirety ( retroactive/confiscation)? How does your body guard feel about assault weapons? How do you feel about concealed carry? Doesn't Feinstein have a concealed carry permit? How do cops feel about assault weapons to defend their own family? Why do you not discuss the concealed carry holder in the Oregon mall? Who do you want to have assault weapons? Will there be exceptions for body guards or retired law enforcement? I am in favor of putting more police in schools or paying to send teachers ( on a voluntary basis) to the police academy (free) to provide those that wish additional income to work part time (0 – 20 hours per week) as police officers ( voluntary only - several teachers that I know work 2 jobs because we fail to compensate them enough. Not all teachers will do this, but some will.
Attaboy Piers, I've largely considered you nothing but a fluff piece guy but that was an absolute clowncanning of a horrible, horrible person
Way to go Pierce! Hats off to you for speaking your mind to that utter idiot. Thank you for being so passionate on the gun control issue, it shows that you really DO care.
I want to report abuse. Mr Pratt was assaulted by a man without an argument. That's when the name calling comes out in Leiu of a valid argument. I decided to email all the advertisers as well to protest a foreigner who comes to this country to abuse Americans. Obviously Morgan remembers his history and the redcoats and a well armed militia. Old wounds never die do they Mr O'meara. Your an empty suit better suited for judging. Stick with Dancing with the Stars because as a journalist you are unsuited.
I am absolutely impressed by the way Piers has been handling the ignorance of these gun crazy people... I wonder if they would feel the same way if it was one of their family members or loved ones who was gunned down by a high powered rifle... thanks Piers for sticking it to them and letting them know how disgusted we are as human beings that people care more about guns than the lives of our babys. Im not a parent but I morn dearly for those that were losted and enough is enough. Lets band those high powered guns to save our little ones... that should be the slogan. Thanks Piers for all you do with great passion...
Piers, just because you disagree there is no need to take only one side! You are supposed to be a journalist! Go back to England!! We are a gun nation and no one should infringe on our rights!!
Yeah Piers, go back to England where they only have 35 homicides by guns a year. We like it here in America where over 8000 people get killed every year with guns. It is our RIGHT to kill each other!
So agree! What a fool to call himself a journalist. This was the final blow. I am singing off CNN in search of real reporting
Homicides rates in GB are measurable. If I wanted to kill lots of people at a theatre I'd drive my F-150 80 miles an hour into the crowd standing in line. Or in China or GB I'd use a knife and slice up twenty something. It took three shooter to do Sandy Hook. The one in the woods and those who drove away in the van. Sounds like a government operation.
I'm all for telling the rest of you that like me, there's no need for you to own a gun. I don't care if you like hunting. The fact is, you people are comfortable with killing things. That includes people. To me, that's disturbing. None of you should have the right to carry a firearm for any reason, and that alone would eliminate a whole ass-ton of crime...
Tell Eric Holder the attorney general to stop shipping them to Mexican criminals and border crossers. Start there and work you way north. Good Luck.
Flipped over to see what liberals were saying – and lo, and behold, Morgan, the pompas a–, was insulting and berating a very intelligent gentlemen who just happened to have a different view than Morgan. What finally stopped the madman's rampage last Friday? The fear of someone with a gun coming to get him!! All the laws in the world will not stop someone from causing carnage, be it with box cutters (9/11) or guns (12/14). And Morgan, toodle loo!! I'm sure someone will be glad to buy you a one way ticket to return across the pond!
Sanity at last. Did you know Dianne Feinstein carries? Yes indeed and she has bodyguards too. Let Congress turn their guns in and fire the bodyguards and live defenseless like the rest of us.
Please, give us a break!!! Piers Morgan, you are a arogent, clueless idiot. Believe me, us true americans know we have a problem. We don't need another foriegner coming in here and telling us we have a problem. You keep refering to England in your commentaries and quite frankly I'm sick of being compared to the Britts. Maybe you do have less gun violence and mass shootings in your country but in reality, per capita your gun violence rates are probably much higher then ours per capita. This coming from a counrtyman who covered up the murder of Princess Dianna.
I do understand your concern and your enthusiasm to find an end to gun violence and I agree, there is no place in ciivilian american house holds for assault weopons or clips contianing more then five bullets. I am a sportsman. Have been since the age of 12. Served 25 years in the U.S. Army. Saw more then my share of death and heart breaking situations. There is no place other then law enforcement and military for the use of assault weopons. But you attacking these gun supporters is just fueling the fire. You calling them idiots and other foul names is ridiculous coming from a britt.Yee with no sin, cast the first stone!!!Outlawing assault guns is only one part of the answer. If I owned an assault gun, I would never even have a thought to us it to kill innocent people. WE have to address the mental health issues and special needs children as well. I have to mention that I believe that news correspondents add to the problem. I very seldom see anything reported about all the good things that take place in this world on a daily basis but whenever there is a tragic instance, media is all over it like flys on manure. So you see, Piers, you are part of the problem!!!
Lead by example. All high profile individuals including politicians, tv stars including reporters, movie stars and musicians for banning guns immediately disarm your bodyguards. You start and put your money where your mouth is. Time to end the double standard if you are really passionate about it. Bueller? Bueller?
Thank you Piers, thank you, thank you! We need someone with guts to stand up to these gun nuts!!! My sister-in-law is a kindergarten teacher and one of the best in our State. The thought of her going to school each morning with a gun in her pocket is revolting - absolutely and totally ludicrous!!!!! Very scary to think these nuts actually believe they are right, very scary and very unfortunate.
I am sorry to have witnessed your lack of professionalism tonight on your talk show. You have the right to your view point and to express yourself. However lack of respect for your quest and viewing audience and lack of control over your emotions have shown you to be very uncouth and not professional. I will not be watching you or CNN until a apology is issued to your quest and the America public for your action. Our thoughts and prayers should be with these families and classmates and energy applied toward healing this community now. The issue of control over assault weapons may need to addressed but by someone who will receive respect not cause harm by his lack of professionalism. Let's work to improve unity with all not try to make England look like they are judging the American people for lack of control of their country. History shows how that worked out for England, Mr Morgan. God blessings to all.
Well said. This is disgusting. This man needs to be removed. I refuse to watch another episode of his program until he is removed.
I BELIEVE THAT WE ALL NEED TO DISCUSS HOW WE PREVENT THESE YOUNG PEOPLE FROM FEELING LIKE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT THEIR VOICE CAN BE HEARD!!! I used to respect Piers Morgan as an interviewer, and his opinions. However, his inability conduct a civil discussion with someone on the opposite side of a social/political issue, and then to degenerate into name calling and childish insults, talking over his guest and not allowing Mr. Pratt to respond to his questions has irrevocably damaged his journalistic integrity. Inviting Mr. Pratt, knowing his opinions on this matter, should have meant a civil debate on the issue. Instead, inviting him and then talking over him while he tried to give answers Mr. Morgan shows not journalistic curiosity but journalistic sensationalism.
As for whether private citizens should be allowed to own "Assault Weapons," the answer is yes. First, the AR series of riffles are very high quality riffles. Second, these are not "high powered assault riffles." The cartridge is actually a relatively weak cartridge. Most riffle cartridges are much, much more powerful. Third, the purpose of the second amendment is not for self defense, hunting, or sports, but instead it ensures a means of defense against foreign invasion and as a means of defense against our own government, if necessary.
Piers: The issue has reached a point where the language you
used tonight was appropriate. Keep up the fight.
Stronger words I would not object to.
It is great that PIers MOrgen stand up for his opinion, he is the FEW tv personnel who raise the gun control issue way before all these horrible shootings happened. I enjoy your show. Mr alan Dershowitz is on the point!
The gun proponent on the show was spouting nonsense. Oregon has a concealed carry weapon law. Yet it has done nothing to lower the almost daily gun violence we witness on the local Portland tv news shows. Portland's Avg. Annual murder rate is 20 and we hit that number last July. Compare that to any nation and it is plain to see we have a problem.
population of Portland Oregon –593,820 – 18 gun related homicides 2011
population of Canada – 34,482,779 – 179 gun related homicides 2011
either we are doing something very right , or your doing something very wrong
Iceland pop.319,575 – 0 gun related homicides 2011
You do the math . THINK PEOPLE
Piers, you were really messing up when you dealt with Pratt. Some of these people relish being called names and relish being overridden by angry comment. You could play their game, and quietly and logically make a fool of them using their own logic. Regarding Mr. Pratt and the issue of self-defense, what if you'd used the following hypothetical on him: A bad guy breaks into his home in order to satisfy an overpowering need for drugs. A light goes on upstairs or he hears a sound. The bad guy feels he's apt to be shot at if he runs, so he stands to one side of the room. The bad guy is as ready to defend himself as Mr. Pratt is. Would you not agree that he feels he has as much right to self-defense as Mr. Pratt does?
Does Pratt really think the advantage is on his side, and that he is safer having a gun? Piers, I live in a country where the bad guy is likely to cut and run if he hears anything in the house. Pratt may be better advised to lock his bedroom door and call 911.
Hey boss, I PROMISE you that a drug addict breaking into a house is not going to be clear minded enough to "think" about his current situation. He's just going to act & it is probably a good idea to be prepared for the worst. He clearly is not motivated by the law so there is nothing to stop him from bringing in a gun to get what he wants. I will concede that the 1st act of the homeowner should be to call 911.
" I live in a country where the bad guy is likely to cut and run if he hears anything in the house. Pratt may be better advised to lock his bedroom door and call 911."-----–
So your willing to bet your life on """ likely""" ? What if your wrong? When the evil person is 30 seconds away from stabbing you in your own home , 911 cops are 5 minutes away. Maybe they will take some nice pictures when it's over? It's up to YOU to prepare that the white chalk line isn't around you.
I used to enjoy watching CNN but have recently stopped. Why? First, they discuss that same stuff over and over – show to show. And Mr. Morgan, who with his singular, self-interest show and agenda has made me completely lose interest in this news medium. Let me say that I've been choked up with emotion over what has happened at Sandy Hook Elementary. There is no excuse, no explanation or understanding for the utterly sick acts that took the lives of so many innocent. Thinking of those lost tugs as my heart as I write this. Let transition to my point... I'm a Veteran, I love this country and the people in it. I own guns. Yes, plural – GUNS. I think it's necessary to ensure people who own guns be responsible and have mental competency, judgement and appropriate proficiency to own them. However, Mr. Morgan and his parade of equally fanatical 'experts' carrying on about gun laws and gun control underscore how CNN has has reduced itself to a series of all day news reruns and generally lacks of quality journalism. Mr. Morgan in my eyes has become nothing better than a ranting lunatic himself – in fact with his political slant and holier-than-thou air, he might as be the democratic version of Glen Beck.
Mr Morgan – Nice job stacking your shows to push your own agenda; nice job reducing journalism to a parade of people wallowing around in their own group think. I'm open to listening to all sides (since there are more than two); I struggle with the senseless loss of innocents. However, using your privilege to drive your own simple minded version of journalism is pathetic. Try – as hard as it might be – to inform the American public you so frequently belittle.
M said "You must be a gun-toting cowboy! What an idiot! Teachers have enough responsibilities without becoming perpetrators of violence – the very thing they fight in schools! You are an idiot! Educate yourself please!"
M, the name calling is expected from your type (is that you Piers?) , you cant fight against violence in schools when you are unarmed and killed trying to protect the children from violence in schools
I 'd bet that the last thing teachers want to do is pack heat. Has anyone asked them or taken a poll of them to see? You'd figure that would be required BEFORE suggesting arming teachers as a solution to violence in schools. I mean, they are teachers not cops; I don't want a cop teaching my kid physics either!
some teachers have said they would like to be armed and have carry permits – and been denied of course. and then liberals then switch the argument by pointing out how "rare" this is – Duh.
the real issue here is just how bad school security really is yet all Morgan wants to do is disarm us so only the bad guys have weapons – fat chance pal
I mean be practical! Arming teachers means not just giving them a gun, but giving them gun training, asking them to practice shooting on a regular basis to stay proficient, and last but not least, teaching them to kill instantly without remorse. That's too a high a bar for a single profession, asking a person to be a teacher and trained killer. Think it through, it's simply not possible to do on the scale that's needed. And then you can bet your as they will ask for much higher salaries, and rightly so! armyourselves: you can cut the first 100 paychecks ...
I'll gladly pay more taxes to keep my kids alive, not so much to send aid around the world, pay off the unions, etc..........
This shows how LITTLE you know aobut the subject. It seems everyone who watches tv and hears about a unlawful act with a gun, somehow they always become a gun or tactical expert on the subject. No one would arm teachers. NO one would be giving them a gun. Some teachers/staff are ex military. Some are carry permit holders that have had training and like to carry, but are not allowed to in schools. So what you would have is a volunteer thing. Any extra training would not be a problem. So no, not every teacher would be armed. There would be guidelines and they would use their own gun. Cost to taxpayers... probably some paper for printint a 1 page guideline.

Bravo Piers !!! It is about time someone tells it like it is , Larry Pratt, and anyone who thinks like him are seriously ill and these are the ones that need mental health exams before owning as much as a slingshot. Keep up the good fight Mr Morgan, if more people thought like you this world would be a better place.
Iceland is a great example .. 0 deaths from gun violence . they have been in 1 war , the cod war, 0 shots fired 0 casualties and they won the war .. they also saved themselves from a fiscal cliff of their own ..
only 200 years ago there were no locks on door, and no thieves, violence? sure but children were never involved .. and only when the new people arrived did the massacres arrive and never left.
Not only did Piers get obsessed with Pratt, he barely noticed all the great points Dershowitz made and failed to follow up or highlight them ...
Piers is a lousy interviewer and tv journalist. Ever notice that his questions are quite often loaded (no pun intended) and are about a minute long each? Then he interrupts guests after 10 seconds, not just Pratt, he does it all the time!
when do we think this liberal from the UK will ever mention the real issue – school security. we have armed guards at the back protecting paper, at the mall and even at BJ"s but our kids have little to no protection......make any sense.
this is a gun grabber witch hunt and little more....
This country won its freedom from tyranny and the founders created the 2nd amendment for the purpose of assuring we should always have the ability to do so again. I am disgusted with the name calling. Professional conversation is the place to start. It is clear that no one on either side of this issue condones any kind of murder, mass or otherwise. Until everyone acknowledges that everyone wants safety but has a different idea of how to achieve it I don't foresee the kind of conversation that will be productive and move us toward that goal. This problem is way bigger than small guns vs large guns or the clip size. The mentally ill are not getting the care they need. It is legal to threaten to kill your neighbor in writing – ONLINE – and that is protected by the 1st amendment, I know because it happened to me and I know that the individual who threatened me has weapons and has been convicted of felonious battery. I feel like I need at least a small gun to protect myself. CIVIL DISCOURSE is the beginning. Name calling only drives the wedge deeper and is keeping the focus off the goal of safety and keeping it on which side you're on and which side is more stupid.
the real joke here is that this clown Morgan can just call all statistics "bunk" or "crap" with absolutely NOTHING to back it up. so much for an honest press.
and he gets away with it
John Lott ate his lunch and anyone who saw it knows its true – all Morgan did is make a fool of himself
For all of you gun banners out there, I dare you to put a "GUN FREE ZONE" sign on your front lawn – hypocrites
population of Portland Oregon –593,820 - 18 gun related homicides 2011
population of Canada - 34,482,779 - 179 gun related homicides 2011
Iceland pop.319,575 - 0 gun related homicides 2011
exactly – as John Lott pointed out almost all mass killing were in places where guns were not allowed. his book is FACTS and Morgan spouts lies and bluster
On its initial publication in 1998, John R. Lott’s More Guns, Less Crime drew both lavish praise and heated criticism. More than a decade later, it continues to play a key role in ongoing arguments over gun-control laws: despite all the attacks by gun-control advocates, no one has ever been able to refute Lott’s simple, startling conclusion that more guns mean less crime. Relying on the most rigorously comprehensive data analysis ever conducted on crime statistics and right-to-carry laws, the book directly challenges common perceptions about the relationship of guns, crime, and violence. For this third edition, Lott draws on an additional ten years of data—including provocative analysis of the effects of gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C—that brings the book fully up to date and further bolsters its central contention."

when the 2nd was written there were no automatic weapon , go back to your single shot weapons and leave the high powered to the professionals, The only Tyranny that has reined this land arrived on boats Gayle and continues in the heart of anyone who speaks the words "from my cold dead hands"
1. disarm america, allow only hunting arms, or single shot handguns (restricted calibre)
2. a waiting list and psychiatric evaluations of anyone wanting to own a firearm (obviously with no criminal record)
3. limited bullet supply to 50 for life per weapon with an increased cost for ammunition
4. strict, expensive fines for owning non registered or illegal guns. Jail time for second offences.
Ya disarm America like the UK where only the killers have the guns – did it ever occur to you that the "gun crime" people like Morgan speak of is 99% illegal weapons used by criminals?
My issues with your proposed solutions
1. How will you keep criminals form buying illegal weapons on the black market?
2.We already have waiting lists for gun ownership & people with felonies are already legally banned from owning guns. That has not stopped them. And who is going to pay for all those psychological tests & who will get to determine who is sane?
3.How much taxpayer $ will it take to keep records of the amount of ammunition per gun that is sold & how will we keep criminals from obtaining it illegally?(recurring theme)
4.This rule is already in place & here's where we are.
BOYCOTT PIERS MORGAN'S SPONSORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe they have gun laws they enforce? maybe the the US gun crime is not the citizens who LEGALLY own guns.
Maybe in Iceland they dont have a 50 Billion $ yr drug trade to fight over. Maybe Toronto does not have the killers Chicago has.
Ever wonder why the places where law abiding citizens were banned from having guns (like DC) had the highest gun crime rate.
1.You did not do the math
2. are you the bear?
3. yes i have thought of that , and part of D.C. (and the rest) of the Americas problem is how you live, fix the unstable communities, do not give the unstable access to easily found military weapons. So if you are of right mind you can have access to a single shot weapon.
Dear Piers, It took someone who is from England to give us a true perspective on just how insane this country's gun laws are. Thank You! I am a mental health professional and yet until your very clear statistics i did not see just how out of bounds our unlimited numbers of assault rifles and incredible number of murders each year have become. At least in this area we are a very backward country. I appreciate your holding these people who support the NRA's position on the right to own assault rifles to account and your exposing their continued same position even after the latest murder of 20 children and 6 adults for the whole nation to see. I have increasingly become uncomfortable with the apparent control the NRA has had over our politicians and now I am not only uncomfortable but am totally fed up with our political policies being dictated by such an unfeeling power- hungry mob such as they have become. I think you are right about our people having reached a tipping point due to the brave children and adults who were slaughtered at Newtown and by the courageous TV personalities like you who are willing to speak out against these bullies. Pay no attention to the persons who disagree with your strong stand and emotional outrage at the lunacy of these NRA leaders who think that they can't be challenged. The American people are ready to take a stand and bring our country back to the high standards of doing what is right and honorable to protect our children and peace loving adults while at the same time keeping our country strong and free. God bless you and God bless these United States of America!!!!
You dont get it Marcia – the reason the 10 year old assault rifle ban was dropped was because those guns are are not involved in a lot of crimes – we can see why too – they are not concealable. and yes I do agree there is little justification for large clips that hold 20 or more rounds but if you think banning them again will make a big difference you are dreaming.
the real issue here is school security, or the lack thereof. But of course all we here is Democrats and the anti-gun crowd going after the NRA.
the cruel reality is we protect our banks, malls and transportation systems far better than the places we have what means the most to us – our SCHOOLS. and until we start dealing with that issue this will never end.
Ted You don't get it do you? It's simple – live by the gun...die by the gun.
Ted, Yes of course this is a problem that involves several areas but the most important place to begin that WILL begin to make a difference not only in schools but in theaters, shopping malls, parking lots etc. is to ban the military style guns and clips that have absolutely no purpose except to kill people! Further more since I am a mental health professional I am wanting to see expanded, tight background checks that would for instance involve a 30 day waiting period to help at least cut down on the chances of a mentally unbalanced individual getting a hold of a gun at a gun show where they can walk in and out with an assault rifle and no background check! I "get it " Ted. If you folks would do the same and instead of trying to keep those of us who want these changes from going forward simply use your energy to help ADD any other factors you think might also help such as ways to increase the safety of public places such as our schools then we could all work together to make our country a safer place for everyone!
You know what...Piers Morgan is not getting fired or going anywhere! You people suggesting that might ask your selves why. Perhaps it is because the MAJORITY of us whether we write on blogs or not agree with him and no longer have to suffer under the illusion that our country is always the best in everything , has all the answers and is perfect in order to be proud of our country. Some of us are willing to look at facts, look at the reality of a situation and look at the history of some of the countries that have been around a little longer. We all have times we can learn from others. Maybe you should be grateful Piers is here and sharing his views about his country and what they have learned where these mass murders are concerned. So why don't you people open your brains a little or simply turn to another channel.
Thanks again Piers!!! We are grateful for your insight and your courage!!!
Piers keep up the good work, I completely understand your anger and frustration, unfortunately many americans live in a state of fear, seems that they do not trust the Law to protect them. We as British people may need to watch them evolve into a civilized society ,many of them think they have the right to kill. I hope sanity will prevail and that they will think about their children and forget about the second ammendment , so antiquated and not relevant in todays society. Guns were the cause of the death of these innocent children and adults. DO NOT LET THEIR DEATHS BE IN VAIN. I simply cannot understand the mentality of people accepting a life of fear.
Full marks to Piers Morgan for the way he handled his interview with Mr Pratt. Guns in the hands of civilians is a culture thing – USA has to grow up and move beyond the Cowboys and Indians days. The NRA sound like a load of Wyatt Earps – they are dinosaurs and like dinosaurs will disappear, starting now. Leave fighting foreign wars to the military, leave internal security and fighting crime to the police. The USA should move in the direction of "civilised"countries – UK- Europe – Australia etc instead of lurching further in the direction of the anarchical route eg in countries like Syria.
A complete ditto to Clive's comments.
Dr. Oz's comments about the brain of individuals who are not able to connect with others caused me to recall a interview on" State of the Union" the Sunday after the election, with a brain specialist. This person said that the brains of conservative thinkers is distinctly different and the outer expression of this is fear based thinking and living. I am thinking that we have had alot of fear based thinking controlling the workings of this nation in recent years in general and in particular expressed by Mr. Pratt as an example of fear based expression, requiring ownership of guns, disguised behind alot of bravado.
Thank you Piers, as a citizen of another nation which is not immersed in a gun mentality, for taking on this exploration into why, why, why we need to have the relationship we seem to with guns in this country. Why are we so fearful as a population? What is the way forward beyond fear for Us? I think you serve an important role in helping to ask the important questions to the American public not we have been are unable to ask outselves before Sandy Hook. This is a great service. Please do not let up...and please help us by continuing to dig deeper. Thank You
For anyone who spent some 10 yrs in the US and watches this debate overseas, it is amazing to realize that each democracy indeed has its own, peculiar social pathologies and subtle mechanisms of self-deception and collective self-righteousness - Piers is doing a great job helping Republicans and traditional, conservative Americans realize their own contradictory practices and misconceptions !
here here . so right
We'er not ready? 20 first graders and 7 adults killed and we'er not ready? When will we be ready if not now?
We'er not ready is what the opponents of the Declaration of Independence said.If they had prevailed, there would not be a United States of America. John Adams said that" The real revolution was the change in the hearts and minds of the people." Now is the time! Put down the guns and pick-upon the God given tools we were born with and be can begin to build a better world for our children and our children's children. We can make it so if we commit to change..
"Should the teachers be allowed to carry a gun?" asks CNN. Here are my thoughts....
There is a shooting at the school ... let teachers carry the guns
There is a shooting at the church .... let preachers carry the guns
Everytime there is a shooting ... add more guns
300 Million guns are not enough .. let us bring it up to a Billion!
Gun in your hand make you feel safe shiver at the thought of the gun in the hands of others
Don't forget, for every hand you have..there are millions of hands of others!
Our sincere thanks to Pierce for having the passion and clarity to see the truth
Agreed , after so many massacres and so many tries at solutions it is obvious that the United States has gone down the wrong path and it is time to re-evaluate the situation, if the same decisions are made and the country does not change there will most likely be more horrific results than what we have seen in the past week. Unfortunately from the amount of ignorance in the country i see more violence from gun enthusiasts once the change is made and i am already saddned for all of you, because almost every American i have met are stand up people whom i have enjoyed many times guiding on Snowmobile and rafting down rivers. sad situation for you all .

Piers I recently visited your country and it was lovely and I plan on visiting it again having said that I think you should keep your nose out of american politics or take your ass back to England!
What a ridiculous thoughtless comment.
The Pilgrims called the USA home the day they landed. Piers has been here 7 years with a wife and child. This is now his home. He is totally justified in being passionate about this insanity as are many patriotic Americans. They care that their children, family and friends are safe in this country. Your comments do little to aid in this laudable endeavour. It's not his ass that needs to move.
So we are, looking at building schools, with bullet proof glass, bars on the doors and armed security. I thought our children went to school, not day prison. What is happening to our society?
Question for the NRA: What percentage of gun deaths are actually in self-defense?
When all of these assault weapons are gone, and a madman commits the next horrible act with a hunting rifle, or a revolver, what will be done then? This tragedy, like September 11th 2001, will be used to pass more far reaching legislation that further threatens your civil liberties under the guise of public safety. The USA Patriot Act was one step in the incremental decline of your freedoms, and now it appears there will be another.
one thing i don't understand is CNN has armed guards when you enter their building. i am sure everyone feels safe working there just knowing they are being protected. so why wouldn't we do the same for our kids? we are in a different day and age (sad but true). i really feel our future need as much protection (if not more) as CNN employees , banks , The Capitol , and thousands of other places around the country. I really wish Piers would talk about security at CNN and why its good for them but not for children.i don't know the solution its just my thought . lets not have one set of guidelines on protection for adults going to work and another for kids going to school. My heart goes out to all the victims
Although I didn't agree with what Prat was saying, Piers should have been fired on the spot!!! I couldn't believe that a professional was acting like that. The guy criticized him a little and he couldn't handle it. Won't be watching CNN anymore not only because of piers but because CNN no longer reports ALL the news. For example, i went to their sight today to replay the clip from last night show to see if I really heard what i thought i did. I played the clip and they had cut out what piers said to the man. I laugh every time i hear them say THE MOST TRUSTED NEWS. I use to rely on CNN for my news but after seeing their election reporting, I now believe nothing they say. They have become a joke and I can't believe the reporters who used to be highly respected go along with it. Wolf and others have really lost their credibility. CNN and the reporters are helping to destroy this wonderful country. I only watch them now to compare them to FOX NEWS. FOX NEWS IS THE ONLY CHANNEL I CAN BELIEVE. That's ironic because in the 2008 election I voted for Obama because I thought Fox was too biased and lying on him. So, I watched CNN because I trusted them. Well I found out Fox was the truthful one.
the media is constantly reporting how military rifles are designed to fire bullets that "fragment in the body" or are "especially lethal" but where does this information come from? Modern assualt weapons were designed under the very specific rules of the Haque convention IVof 1907 which CLEARLY state:
Artical 23 (E) "In addition to the prohibitions provided by special Conventions, it is especially forbidden – To employ arms, projectiles, or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering"
It goes on to list examples of these projectiles (Bullets) such as Expanding, Hollowpoint, Exposed lead, Etc. So since the USA designed it's weapons around these rules where may I ask is the media getting this information?
As a canadian, I would like somebody to explain to me why americans (who claim they have the best country in the world) are so paranoid about their fellow citizens? Always seeing a danger everywhere. This doesn't happen in other civilized societies....
I guess you must have a paranoid fear of germs for having soap in the bathroom ???
Don,t give up Piers the life you save may be mine ty
I applaud your effort Piers can you also ask the motion picture and video culture communities to step up and become more responsible? It is shocking how many ways and how up close and personal killing is on big screens and video games Almost akin to an Olympic event harder faster better.
Too many times gun advocates say they need guns to protect against criminals. When was the last time a CRIMINAL shot up a school, Mall or theatre? Most criminals shoot each other and not horrendous acts against the public other than the occsional innocent bystander. (which is also tragic). Most mass shootings are caused by the disturbed person down the street with no criminal record. Keep the availability of these weapons well controlled to keep them away from this type of person.
I thought the discussion was interesting until halfway through when when Morgan started screaming at guest John Lott without letting him finish a sentence. Never have I seen a more unprofessional, irritating moderator. CNN has some excellent news people but this guy is just terrible.
Why does't anyone talk about the dangerous psychotropic drugs that these misfit kids are on. Unless we are honest about this we will never solve this problem. Please look into the side effects of these drugs. No kid should be on them, never. How about making sure there is no bullying at school and all kids fit in. Stop the street drug war, tear down the prisons and put money back into the schools.
Why can't you people see what's happening the Government wants more control of the population. And they're using these horrible events to get what they want. An example of this was 9/11 when the Government gain the power to tap your phones. Now it seems that they're trying to take our guns away. We were given the right to bear arms, not just protect ourselves against people trying to rob us or kill us. We were given the right to bear arms if our Government becomes corrupted.
You Interviewed a Gun shop owner from Texas. He went through all the commendable steps for someone to obtain a concealed weapon licence including safety course and background check. If that isn't gun control, I don't know what is. Gun control if applied effectively is not designed to keep weapons from the average sane American. It is there to prevent wackos and criminals from obtaining guns legally. Better that than to have Police in every building and on every corner in the country and all citizens walking around with a dangerous weapon. Effective gun control would prevent selling any weapon to a person that has not gone through a background check to ascertain their mental status or criminal status. Control alone will not prevent these horrible tragedies, one may always slip through, but it is a sensible start to the problem and would make American children and adults a lot safer.
Criminals do not normally run around shooting up schools, malls and theatres. They shoot each other. It usually is the disturbed neighbour down the street. Control with background checks can go a long way to eliminating this threat.
How to stop the killing is to pass a law that if you are found with a unregisterd gun you go to jail and you get 5 years no getting out on good behaviour and you don't get out on bail you just go to jail . I think after you put a few people in jail and the word got out no kid would have a gun with them for fear of getting caught and going to jail for 5 years
Bob, What an original and good idea!!! Getting the assault guns and clips off the streets, having background checks on the secondary gun sales and your idea should help immensely!!! Hope you will write to the White House!
Piers Morgan, presents himself as a journalist, but all you have to do is look at the way he treats the people that he invites to his shows calling them stupid, idiots, or ignorant. What he does understand is that the second amendment is what backs up the first amendment to the bill of rights. The founding fathers of this country included the second amendment to insure the first! What does this idiots of a journalist not understand.
What you don't understand is that your TV control actually has a way to change the channel. It is Pier's show and he can handle people like that by disrespecting the way they present untruths for all of us. Keep it up Piers!!!!
It takes a foreigner to point out the obvious problem of American society. Gun ownership idea of 17th century in 21st century. I had thought CNN had lost its ability to take morally correct stand without trying to be politically correct.
Europeans are losing their civilization. They are not replacing themselves and lack the will to survive. Piers Morgan exemplifies this mentality. A big rationale for the second amendment is defense against tyranny. However, its seccessful implementation requires people appreciative of their freedoms and who desire to preserve them.
Sorry, but I think listing EVERYONE who has a weapon is insane. It wont do anything but cause more problems. When I was a kid my dads house was broken into, and all his weapons was stolen by a coke head, and she sold all of his guns all over the states illeaglly for drug money... If a criminal wants a gun he/she will get it. We have the right to bare arms, and its no ones business. The people who need to know, know.
Read this pro-gun, veteran rant on the subject of assault weapons. It is novel to hear from someone with their own views, rather than spouting off either party line:
Why has nobody even mentioned the glorification of guns by Hollywood? Video Games? Media frenzies whenever there is a shooting? 100 years ago, percentage-wise there were more homes with guns than there are today, but why were there not having shootings in schools, businesses, etc? Hollywood and the video game industry are training these monsters. The media frenzy takes it to a new level in covering the shootings day and night. The people that are attracted to the R-rated violent movies and the killing video games are the people that are going out and performing these heinous deeds, yet the media and politicians are afraid to shine the light on the true culprits. We have to send a message to Hollywood, the gaming industry and the internet videos that are training our children how to become mass murderers!
Regulating guns might fix a small part of the problem, but it's not stopping the cause.
Did prohibition keep people from drinking? No, it actually created organized crime and the Mafia. Does banning drugs keep people from using them? No. So when guns are banned, will access to guns disappear or will we have a new organized crime and cartels running guns? Yes....without a doubt.
For a discussion of possible new means to enact gun control, see "Breaking Through the Gun Control Logjam" at http://firstname.lastname@example.org
Let me see if I understand the issue here;
The Sandy Hook massacre was committed by a mentally deranged individual,
the Virginia Tech massacre was committed by a mentally deranged individual,
the two New York subway murders were committed by mentally ill individuals,
the Aurora Colorado shooting was committed by a mentally deranged individual,
the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was committed by a mentally deranged individual as was the Webster, New York shooting and the Oregon mall shooting yet certain media outlets and "public servants" (ha!) would have you believe the problem is one of "gun control". Then, to top it all off, the President assigns a mentally challenged individual ("...a three-letter word: jobs...", "A successful dump!", "Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see ya.") to be in charge of this process? How does that make sense?
To Larry Pratt: what can the Evil hearted do when the gun is not there?, for God sake we should admit the fact. Let's call a spade a spade.
good point Emma – We should have spade control too ~ evil in the heart, any gardening tool could be used as a weopon as well. same for steak knives. Register knitting needles!
Go to the FBI website and see what kills the most people in this country. Guns are not even close.
"They who can give up essential liberty for obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety"
Dear mr. Morgan,
I am a retired US MArine that proudly served this nation.
Do me a favor, be honest and explain your audience why there is more crime in the UK than in the USA. The stats can be found in the FBI and Scotland Yard website and available for everyone to see.
Stop the circus you created. Be a real broadcaster instead of an entertainer. There are plenty of good examples of amazing broadcasting from your home land
Follow the doctrine of Edward R. Murrow who represents the true essence of broadcasting. Stop accusing and investigate. That should be your job and stop exploiting the confused minds and fear of the population.
Also why the media doesn't cover stories like this.... http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/woman-hiding-kids-shoots-intruder/nTm7s/
Oh, I see ... guns can be good and actually save innocent lives so we are not going to report on that.
I didn't see where you liberal, anti-gun freaks posted this story:
Georgia mom home alone with kids shoots ex-con intruder
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/06/georgia-mom-home-alone-with-kids-shoots-ex-con-intruder/#ixzz2HGpwHCVI
To jon: The story you mentioned is great but the mom didn't use an assault rifle on the intruder!!! Be reasonable, no one wants to take away anyone's right to defend themselves but we don't want OUR right to be reasonably safe in our mall, theaters, schools and other places when the problem exists when people has large assault-type military guns that no one should have or need in the first place!!!
"Georgia mom home alone with kids shoots ex-con intruder"
I thought CNN was a news organization? How can you allow Piers Morgan to spout his personal opinions on gun control on your network? I don’t think he should be deported, everyone is allowed to express their opinion. However, I think CNN should be boycotted for allowing (and paying) him to do so. I will do everything in my power to start a “boycott CNN” campaign on social media. This is very disappointing chain of event for CNN, an organization I used to respect!
Fire that idiot!
You know what...YOU can fire CNN in your own life any time. Why do you have the need to involve other people every time you make a personal decieision. Maybe if a few of you who feel this need would start to exercise power in your own life simply not watching tv shows that you certainly don't have to you would feel empowered in your own daily existance and not have the irrational need to feel over powered by not making your own personal life deceisions!! That would help too cure this strange need to involve a bunch of other people in order to take care of yourself! Hope you can get over this!
if a person owns a certain kind of firearm or a number of firearms they should be required by law to have a safe to house them most people would agree that if you can afford the gun then you can afford the safe mandating that americans keep a weapon under lock and key would help significantly and people on both sides of the argument would agree
Please take this with a grain of salt and try to have the mind set of walking in the path of someone's shoes. Some one else like the person that is pro guns, and doesn't go out of his or her way to attack someone elses personal rights that they hold so dear to heart. This is a response that I wrote to a friend on the internet regarding her personal beliefs for having more gun control in this country and how ridiculous it feels to those who support the second amendment.
"For all of you people out there that think the founding fathers couldn't have imagined the second amendment protecting semi-automatic rifles because they couldn't foresee that they would become this "outrageous" and "dangerous", then you people need to refrain from voicing that opinion on the interwebs. The reason why I say this is because, the first amendment covers our freedom of speech. I know for a fact, there is no way that the founding fathers could have seen the internet coming into the world and be used as a practical way to express our freedom of speech and first amendment rights. So with "logical" reasoning, just like the reasoning gun control activists use. I propose that we eliminate our right to free speech on the internet the day that we outlaw semi-automatic weapons. Although for some reason I'm getting the feeling that most pro freedom of speech people out there are not going to be to thrilled about this and might even find it idiotic."
Please understand that I am being sarcastic and trying to put some humor and ridiculous propositions up on the table for grabs. In all honesty though, this is how farfetched most gun owners feel when gun control activists use this excuse to outlaw semi-automatic rifles. Think about it for a minute and relate the two. Those rights that we both have as American citizens are not that much different.
Nathan K. First of all, let me thank you for your responsible tone and manner of speaking instead of the ranting and raving. It appears since Piers had that man on who presented SO badly the conversation on both sides has taken a much more civil tone. It is appreciated. Why is it that you feel you need semi-automatic rifles? It puts an unnecessary lethal danger of huge proportions where it should not be. I don't think anyone will agree on precisely what the Founding Fathers meant but regardless we do know what type of guns were used in these recent murders. The freedom ,reasonable freedom ,of both sides needs to be considered. You all keep most of your guns and the other side gets reasonable peace of mind in at least knowing if some nut case gets a gun and starts shooting that perhaps he or she will have the chance of being stopped before they kill everyone on the premises! Also do you agree the background checks need to be changed to a safer type with no loopholes for private guns sales to ignore them? Thank you!
Marcia. I honestly think that the piece of mind that gun control activists would receive for banning the ownership of AR-15's and similar "assault weapons" would just be an illusion. Gun control is just another form of prohibition. It doesn't matter to the "Crazies" if it's illegal, they are still going to find a way to get their hands on them. Just like with alcohol in the 20's and scheduled drugs in America today, people are still able to find a way to get their hands on them. The real enemy hear is the lack of education on the situation. I believe that if more people were knowledgeable about their second amendments rights and gun safety there would be less deaths. Think about how many kids accidentally shoot their friends while showing off their father's gun because of a lack of knowledge on basic gun safety. I honestly think that mass shootings can't be avoided, but I do think that most can be prevented with properly educated law abiding citizens carrying legal firearms. Even if that legal firearm is an AR-15.
I think mass shootings can be very differnt without assault rifles. Nathan
How would you propose to educate people OR get them to be more law abiding? What a bout the very good results other countries like England has had inreducing mass murders or gunmurders of anykind after banning those types of firearms? Do you at least agree about requiringgood background checks on All gun sales?
Thank you for having the guts to express your views on assault weapons. It is hard to fathom the ideas that the NRA are proposing. Bullet proof clothing for children is one of the craziest ideas ever presented. America the free ought not to be like middle eastern countries where chidren grow into adult killers from their childhood experiences due to living amongst killing machines all around them. Protecting children from mentally ill killers is paramount. At the same time, we must ensure safe conditions and the logical answer is to ensure these crazies are not allowed to get their hands on these weapons. To further work on safety, we must get serious about mental health diseases for those that suffer these conditions.
I believe the founding fathers in American history would approve of assault weapons in the hands of the mentally ill.
When is Hollywood going to accept some responsibility for the voilence in America?
There will NEVER be a solution to 100% satisfactorily answer both sides of the argument. The focus is on the gun itself, and that is not the right direction to look when looking for a solution. The USER of a firearm is where the focus needs to be placed. Let's start by looking at the recent events...
A child got access to a firearm AT HOME and brings it to a school to deliver JUSTICE for being BULLIED. Perhaps the focus "should" be that the RESPONSIBLE PARENT should have the guns locked up, inaccessible, or in a safe so that the child has NO ACCESS in the first place.
A person (adult) that is a criminal wants to buy a gun. With the screening process in place, he would most likely be rejected because the background screening will identify him as such. If he / she CAN'T buy a gun legally, as a CRIMINAL, he / she will buy a STOLEN gun or steal a gun themselves, or get it from illegal street deals. If EVERY gun owner meets "certain" requirements (as in mandatory SAFE ownership or equivalent secure means), then the possibility or potential for a person to steal a gun for violence is SERIOUSLY deterred. In order to solve this VERY SERIOUS issue, we have to start by sealing up the CRACKS that allow the FEW to slip by and cause havoc. Illegal deals for fire arms are acquired by similar means, so the cycle would be broken if the guns are secured in the first place.
The WORST scenario is a person WITHOUT a criminal history, applies to buy a gun and is approved, but has MENTAL issues or concerns. If a person is SCREENED for a background check, it should also indicate if that person has a history of other gun purchases or not. If there is history of gun purchases and no legal concerns, then that person has ALREADY displayed a SATISFACTORY history of obeying the law.
If a person WITHOUT a criminal history applies to buy a gun and has NO history of buying a gun previously, that should be subjected to further investigation, as perhaps a mental history needs to be evaluated to determine the purposes or reason to buy, other than just trying to use the 2nd Amendment as the only reason. This is where a dangerous person can slip through the cracks, and this is where the focus of the argument should be applied.
Since adults are required to register at the DMV to drive a car, a gun sale transaction should require buyers and sellers to have a legal registration process that will record and track private deals as well. If there is a dangerous person that gets access to a fire arm in that manner and manages to "slip through the cracks"... at least there will be information available to conduct studies for the future to narrow that gap of gun accessibility to the mentally unstable.
Finding a mentally unstable individual is the HARDEST thing to do, so it would be PRUDENT to design a system to counter act the conditions that allows those dangerous people to slip through the cracks.
THAT is where the focus needs to be...
If I can figure that out... then why CAN'T the rest of our country???
...and in the mean time... we absolutely need to ban assault rifle killing machines!!!!
Piers Morgan is akin to Henry the Eighth (His own Former King) giving GREAT HAIRCUTS! Need I say more?
Since this terrible event has occurred in Newtown, CT, the news coverage of the tragedy itself as well as speeches of various political figures has been around the clock on virtually every channel for over a month. There is a call from the President and various congressional statesmen to do a major overhaul of United States gun control. Their comments range from banning assault rifles to repealing the 2nd Amendment – The Right to Bear Arms – from American citizens. Can and should steps be taken? Yes. Should assault rifles be banned and/or the 2nd Amendment repealed? No.
No, ‘No’ is not a strong enough answer. The answer is absolutely not.
The short term call out to ban arms is expected in the wake of such a terrible tragedy. And personally, I believe all parents – myself included – can’t even imagine the pain these families are going through at such beautiful innocence lost through this act. Twenty children lost. Twenty families lost children. Surely there is no crueler fate than the loss of a child, and how many times more painful through a tragedy such as this? It cannot be measured or calculated to my mind or those parents I talk with. The country if not the world grieves with these families for their loss. But as I ponder this, I ask myself – Is the answer to ban assault rifles or repeal our right to bear arms? The answer is always no, as it should be.
Consider the apparent tool of this destruction. The assault rifle. In the hands of this man who entered the school, a terrible weapon. In the hands of most, a sporting or hunting rifle. I personally know three people who own assault rifles and those rifles have harmed no one. Could they? Yes. But so could their car. How many automobile accidents have taken children’s lives this last year? I suspect hundreds. There are several instances of distraught Mothers driving vehicles into bodies of water, drowning all their children. Numerous people die in cars every day including children, yet there is no call to ban them. Timothy McVeigh built and detonated a bomb that killed 168 people in Oklahoma, yet I suspect that whatever van model or truck model he used to hide the bomb is still in production and I suspect the materials used to construct the bomb are still available today. Tobacco kills millions annually and yet I see it available to purchase in gas stations, super markets, and drug stores everywhere – tobacco is a win/win for the government, they collect hundreds of millions in taxes and it kills Americans before they become eligible for social security, it kills hundreds of thousands of Americans but because of the benefits to the government there is no ban. The tool used in this horrible tragedy by this man was the assault rifle, yet it could easily have been a bomb, or a car that he used with deadly intent to kill children and others should he have went past bus stops or drop off zone.
With the author of this destruction taking his own life, there seems no one to blame except the tool itself. However, we must be careful when we consider the revocation of this tool – the firearm – which is American’s right to bear – and for good reason. If we look at history, less than a century ago the civilian populations of Europe did not have arms to stand against a tyrant. Adolf Hitler ordered the revocation and collection of firearms from Jew and Gentile alike. The civilian population including Germany’s own could not defend itself from his regime following, and as history showed us, he killed millions including numbers that estimate over 1.5 million children. The civilian populations could not fight back with arms, they had already turned their arms over to the Nazi’s. America has had wars in Korea and Vietnam on behalf of civilian populations of those countries who did not have arms to defend themselves against armed oppressive governments. We have provided arms to numerous other country’s rebels in hopes that they overthrow their own armed and oppressive governments themselves without our military intervention. The ethnic genocides in Africa are examples for any to see what happens when a government decides to use arms against unarmed populations. How many thousands of American children died in the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War when American farmers fought with plow blades and farm tools against armed and oppressive French and British governments respectively until American’s could finally become armed. Even TODAY our own American soldiers, airmen, marines, and sailors are fighting a war in Afghanistan beyond the scope of elimination of the Taliban captain which has already been accomplished. We train and arm them to continue to fight against their armed Taliban oppressors while pushing them toward a supposed democratic government.
Governments change, and America cannot allow ourselves to be disarmed. One politician has stated that the rights of a few to bear arms does not outweigh the safety of all of us. This is an outrageous statement and grossly inaccurate. There are close to 300 million Americans and the right to bear arms extends to everyone one of them that are law abiding and over the age of 18. Criminals always find a way to obtain firearms so the laws concerning firearms impact the law abiding in the vast majority. Safety from a potentially future oppressive government or lies in the population’s ability to defend itself with arms, exactly what many populations around the world in history and current day society are not able to do for themselves. Today in Syria the estimate of citizens slain by its government is over 60,000. In addition to the afore mentioned wars do we need to look at the Armenians in WWI Turkey when millions of unarmed civilians including entire families and children were put to death? How about Iraq when their president used chemical weapons on his citizens. Should we consider the fact that the government of the United States deliberately and willfully exposed our soldiers to nuclear fallout radiation half a century ago to see the results on humans? How can we forget any of these tragedies and examples of governments that can’t be wholly trusted including our own. The right to bear arms, whether assault rifle or revolver, should remain our right. To take it away is a slap in the face to millions of children already killed in wars and to the brave Americans who have fought in the past and even fight this very day on behalf of so many for so long in so many different countries (including our own) because those people’s governments have not allowed them to bear arms.
It must not even be a question of whether our government allows us to continue to bear arms. Our forefathers and their children who died fighting to give us these rights made certain through the 2nd Amendment that Americans would not fall prey to oppressive governments whether from other countries or our own. Any who suggest that our right to bear arms be taken should be considered a traitor to our nation and guilty of treason against the commonwealth of the United States of America, the common man whether they be representative, senator, or president. If we consider the repeal of the right to bear arms should we then next consider the revocation of the right to free speech? Depending on the speaker and the speech a speech may be more dangerous than all the firearms combined. Or should the right to vote be next. If we the people of the United States no longer have the right to bear arms, we may have no choice on what other amendments or rights the government may one day revoke. I think of the 20 children who lost their lives and how terrible it is and how horrific and again I can’t imagine what the families are going through in the aftermath. I think of the 1.5 million children who lost their lives in Europe during WWII because the common man no longer had arms to bear. I also think of my children, and in the future of their children, and I know that decisions implemented in the government today will impact them and how their lives are lived in the future. We must not put the lives of the future in the hands of the government by allowing the population to be disarmed. To the horror and terrible dismay of the world, history has shown us time and time again that the cost of disarming the common man is measured in the loss of millions of lives, including the lives of millions of children. We cannot allow the disarming of the American people. To those politicians who would say we must repeal the 2nd Amendment, I say who in the hell do you think you are. As harsh as it is to say, and again I can’t comprehend what the families are going through, I’m sure there are many who would say to me if the 20 children could speak what would they say? My response would be ‘If the 1.5 million children in Europe during WWII could speak what would they say?’ I suspect it would be a lamentation for their Fathers and countrymen not to allow themselves to be disarmed.
