I really like what you are saying on the gun control. You are the best. I really like listen to you. Thank you
First off, my sympathy goes out to the victims and their families. As a parent of young children myself, my heart aches. But getting to the manner of which Mr. Morgan talks down to his guest, he is an utter blowhard and I'm sorry I wasted my time watching such a pompous ass.He should go back to Britain and be a bother back home. Yes discussion needs to started on this emotional matter, but discussion is a two way dialogue. As, a Federal Agent who carries a semi automatic handgun and hunter, I keep my weapons locked up and my children are instructed in the safe handling of said weapons. I do agree that there is no need for assault weapons nor high capacity magazines. That being said, this issues is much more than gun control but lack of mental heath programs. Lastly this is the last time I will ever watch that pompusbass Piers Morgan.
You are totally right. I appreciate your candor and your truth within the context of the problem. Thanks once again.
While I do agree that there needs to be better laws regarding guns, I cannot fathom for the life of me how CNN could possibly think that Piers Morgan is an asset to CNN. His vicious, belligerent, rude and bully-type behaviour is unprofessional and very uncalled for as a journalist and supposed reporter. If he invites a guest on his program, courtesy and professionalism would dictate to let the guest finish his comment without Morgan overshouting, name calling and acting like a spoiled child. This belligerent type of host needs to be on FOX, not CNN. Let him go. He is doing this gun cause no positive service.
Piers Morgan's debate capabilities are atrocious. While I do not necessarily agree at all with his guests in favor of keeping guns, a debate is a two way dialogue where both sides are HEARD not talked over or cut off because one does not want to hear the other side. As a Host, passionate or not, he is incredibly rude and is loosing ground in his arguments because of such behavior.
You should be aware that services for the mentally and emotionally disturbed have been steadily and drastically cut – or gutted – since the 1970's. So while you are right about the need for them, the possibility of better mental health services is so remote that it really can't be considered as a possible remedy for the mass shooting tragedies we experience so often. The current state of our gun laws, and the regulations governing the distribution system are complete anarchy. Anybody can get a gun and get it easily. These tragedies are, under the status-quo, inevitable.
Doug, you are right. This was one of the most childish rants I have ever witnessed from a jornalist / talk show host or whatever you lable him as.
He did more damage to the issue than good. He really should think about being a politician. He would fit right in.
I you do not get the facts and statistics out on the table and agree upon them first, you have no start point to accomplish anything from there.
We have not even got to the point of what are the real numbers. Does crime rate see a reduction in cities / states have implimented carry laws? Do the crimes after carry laws are implemented consist of people that carry weapons legaly or is it just the continuation of the increased violence with gangs, cartells....
Im not sure that many people know what the real difference between a military rifle, semi automatic rifle....really is. They all seem to get grouped into the assult rifle category.
I noticed now they have added the language large calibur to the equation now. As I am sure you know, most of the legal semi auto rifles out there are . 223's. In the hunting world we refer to these as varmit rifles and sure dont consider these large calibur.
Large clips, I agree are not needed. What a gun looks like, I am not sure makes a difference. I truly belive that if the video games portrayed shotguns as the ultimate weapon, we would be seeing shotguns used in these horrific shootings and as have been around guns all my life, I am glad that they are not using shotguns. More damage with less shots.
This is what I fear banning certain guns will lead to .Take out the guns that appear to be military type weapons and everyone will be all warm and fuzzy thinking they have solved the problem. Everyone lets down their gaurd and lunatics start using shotguns. Then we are back at the drawing board again. Time wasted.
Education, stricter controls on obtaing, and maybe a little old fashioned schooling and parenting would be the better alternative.
CNN you should be ashamed of Morgan and his performance the last few nights. The last thing we need in this country is someone thats not even from here coming on and preaching to us. If he thinks its so bad here, he should go back where he came from. Oh, thats right, these are the same peolple we tried to get away from over 200 years ago!!!
I agree with Doug totally. Assault weapons are questionable on the streets, but if the responsibility starts in the home where it should be, and any weapons owned legally are under lock and key, tragedies that we just witnessed would be lessened. For Mr Morgan to make blanket statements for the sake of appealing to the anti gun activists, is ridiculous. This is America, we have laws, we have rights and if he has a problem with that maybe he should go back to Britain.
Very well said Doug!
Well said Doug,
Piers does more harm than good and should be an embarrassment to CNN.
Morgan won America's Spokes Model and became a CNN correspondent, how simple. CNN canned Mike Hemmer and his lady partner her name escapes me. Yet CNN brought in Morgan to lead America through it's political difficulties but he seems to have focused upon only one issue. Not mental health, not jobs, not the spiraling National Debt. But anything that gets headlines. Morgan is a simple minded liberal and as well as a poor journalist, if you can even use that term. Morgan and CNN as well as other media organizations have decided to pander for viewers like Obama panders for votes. CNN has forgotten the US Marine in a Mexican prison, forgotten about the Killing of our US Amb. in Benghazi, the National debt, and the list goes on and on and....
I agree the man is an insufferable ass who never said boo when 10 were gunned down in Chicago on ONE WEEKEND with illegal firearmes and Obama said nothing.
Now he wants to take our legal firearms –LOL
CNN has raised it reporting to the pinacle of news ethics with Piers Morgan. Cnn has brought British ambush TV to America!
morgan is a complete jerk, and needs to go BACK to england!!! He and all his cnn cronies with there big yaps, screaming at guests is why FOX IS NUMBER ONE!!!!!! If demented, liberal moderators like morgan cannot control themselves, they need to shut up!!! bigmouth liberals like him are killing our GOD GIVEN country!!
I agree. Pierce Morgan is a complete jerk and needs to be deported back to England. Watching tonights show. Man he is rude, arrogant and too opnionated.Deport him.
You have the right to use your remote and switch back to Fox where you belong.
Why would someone who thinks fox tells the truth watch anything else? No one else on TV is going to tell you what you hear on fox, so if they are the sole bearer of the truth, why deviate?
The last time one of Mr. Morgan's British brothers 200 yrs ago tried to disarm Americans they paid dearly for their arrogance. The British regulars fired on American militia first and Americans kicked the butts of the best fighting force in the world at the time at Lexington and Concord starting the American Revolution. Face up to it, you are a sore loser and still mad about that– because your tyrannical forebears who had no problem shooting Americans in the bak are now in mass graves because they tried to disarm Americans. Deport yourself, adios.
@ PO – You seem to have forgot the blatantly obvious help we got from the French, duh. And a few Hessians, if I recall. You also seem to have slipped your moorings and lost your place in both reason and time.
I don't want to disarm Americans just put some common sense restrictions as to what type of weaponry is accessible to the average untrained uneducated citizen. Very few have the training and education that our law enforcement and armed services members get.
I believe guns help each person to be more equal in their strength and should help bullies know they can't take our property or come in and kill us if another group decided they wanted to take over America again. Do you think the American Indians would have lost if they had rifles to protect themselves? And they were trusting (like many of you) that no one would want to hurt them or take their land. Lesson learned. I believe mental health was shown to be the underlying factor in many of the shootings. Kids need a home with a mother and father to love and support them. Maybe the government should require sterilization in order for a single mother to receive welfare. We can't support their kids and they just keep having more because they make more money with more kids. And what about us allowing Russian troops to train in America, and more to come. Are we really that stupid?
How dare you come into our country and tell us what to do on gun control. Go back to your own country please.
Hey Piers Morgan,
If it's so bad here why don't you go back to your native New World Order Police State Haven ENGLAND. There's plenty of CCTV Camera's on every corner to keep you safe.
Go Back To England!!!
Wow! Two wrongs don't make being rude okay. Piers since when is it okay to abuse guests wether they agree in your opinions or not. Very disappointing!
Amen! Piers is SO rude to guests he invites to be there, constantly interrupting, acting like some expert on this issue without listening to the other side at all. Head back on the Mayflower, Piers.
I heard Mr. Morgan ask a question to one of his guests. The context of the question was what his pro-gun guest would say to those who lost loved ones in the Connecticutt tragedy. I wish that the pro-gun guest would have answered, " I wish that there would have been armed individuals in that school to protect the children". Piers, I as a pro-gun supporter, would not ask you for advice on what laws would be appropriate for America. America that freed itself over 200 years ago from the tyranny of the country you came from. Piers, if you had your way in America, Americans would be reduced to pathetic victims, unable to protect themselves, subject to hacking of their privacy, and the weak, the women, and elders would be unable to protect themselves from rapists and thugs. thank you Tom.
@ Levi: Instead of getting all cranked up about gun-toting Americans protecting old ladies and little girls, you really need to check the statistics concerning how many shots fired - by trained professionals like cops and soldiers - actually hit the person being shot at.
yes lets let this clown go back to the UK where they took all citizens guns and the gun crime rate went UP. and when faced with this fact bt John Lott all this fool could do was call him a liar.
He is a sickening pompas idiot
bla bla bla NRA bla bla. one more child down.bla bla bla bla bla NRA bla bla 1 child shot bla bla bla bla bla bla NRA bla bla bla toddler killed bij gun bla bla bla bla NRA bla bla 2 children shot by brother bla lba bla bla NRA bla blal bla mother shot by son bla bal NRA bla bla.....and so on and on ..........and on..........
With the constant barrage of blood news on TV I wonder if Piers Morgan and CNN feel any responsibility for copy cat killers. How else do they come up with such crazy suicidal ideas.
Well Jolene here is another way of looking at this issue. Spoke by a father of a of a victim in the Columbine High shooting.
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm?Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's sub-committee.What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers." "The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart. "In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA.I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.""I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy-it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room.Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. "I wrote a poem that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today:"Your laws ignore our deepest needs,Your words are empty air. You've stripped away our heritage,You've outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms,And precious children die.You seek for answers everywhere,And ask the question "Why?"You regulate restrictive laws,Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand,That God is what we need!"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, soul, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and reek havoc. Spiritual influences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws." Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.Political posturing and restrictive legislation are not the answers. The young people of our nation hold the key. There is a spiritual awakening taking place that will not be squelched! We do not need more religion. We do not need more gaudy television evangelists spewing out verbal religious garbage. We do not need more million dollar church buildings built while people with basic needs are being ignored. We do need a change of heart and a humble acknowledgment that this nation was founded on the principle of simple trust in God!" "As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right!I challenge every young person in America, and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA- I give to you a sincere challenge.Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"Do what the media did not... let the nation hear this man's speech.
Hey Peirs Morgan go back to England!!! Your nothing more than a British Empire Propaganda Shill. Go Home, if you don't like it so bad here.
Dear Sir/Madam: That was a really shallow remark...this would mean that the majority of people in the U.S. would have to head out somewhere since the First Nation people will always be first claimers of this country. Children will always be a GREAT reason for making changes in relation to guns! In my opinion, it is shocking that we have not made a law to bans these type of weapons a long time ago. That man who would not answer Pier Morgan this evening appeared to be a very frightened man but I don't know what has happened in his life so I cannot judge him however it is a no brainer that a change must occur with these "military-like weapons"...God is still in control! No matter what travesties continue to occur in this world. Parents must continue to listen to their children and be aware of their needs...it is the hardest job ever but always worth the energy and time. Our prayers go out to those left behind and hurting so deeply right now. Our family knows what it is like to lose children prematurely, at least in our minds and accordingly to our understanding. Again, God is still in control! Peace and Love Forever.
The reason this guy told Morgan to go back to England is because this is an issue for Americans to solve and Piers is not an American. He is here on a work visa taking a job from an American. You are wrong by saying guns should be banned. Read the 2nd amendment and you will understand why our forefathers said we must have the right to bear arms. It is to allow us to have the same weapons our government has in case our government becomes tyrantical, like Syria. I am retired U.S. military and I take our gun rights serious. You should pray there are many more like me that would have stopped this mentally ill killer with our concealed carry weapon!
Stay Piers, stay so that JoeBlow and others of his ilk will be forced to debate topics that challenge their beliefs and ignorant views.
Mr Morgan was great. He stopped the NRA gun huggers bulling right in the track. As an American I am ashamed how things are working out in our country. We need more people like Mr Morgan to call a spade a spade.
"Our leaders can not win an election with out the backing of NRA and a chosen lobby. This is absoutally horrible. " who said this ? When he did he was black listed from the media and fired university. This is I call shameless behavior. The silent majority does not want guns in our streets and homes.
I think if any one in America had the balls Piers Morgan has we would not have to have this discussion. We let the lobbiest and others tells us we are taking away their rights. If he was not English some people would not be so hard on him. I was glad that he went after the man that said these guns are fun after 20 little ones were killed. He should be a shamed of himself and he owes everyone that has ever lost a loved one to one of these assault guns an apollogy. I am not sure but I would think these guns were probably used by the SEALS that shot Bin Laden and we try to keep terrorist out of our country. We might as well let them in because we are giving our own terrorist and open dorr to buy these guns and kill our children and loved ones. There is no logical reason for anyone to want these guns in there homes. These guns are used by crimanals and terrorist. IT IS TIME TO STOP YELLING 2ND AMEDMENT RIGHTS AND START PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN. THESE TERRIBLE MURDERS MUST BE STOPPED AND GETTING THESE GUNS OUT OF THE HANDS OF SICK AND SAD PEOPLE IS THE ONLY WAY AND IT IS PAST TIME IF YOU ASKED ANY OF THESE PARENTS IN NEWTOWN.
Then leave Nana if your so disgusted with our country, go to canada or england, they'd appreciate your narrow mindedness.
Totally agree, Nana...oh and here come the ignorant, backwards Americans who want you and I to leave the country if we don't like it! Funny, they seem to forget we live in a Democracy and that there is something called the 1st Amendment that allows for freedom of speech...they live to skip that one and go straight to their favourite (the 2nd). : )
The US looks like a bunch of redneck, hillbillies when we try to defend our right to bear arms. We'd rather protect someone's right to have a AK-47 than consider any kind of restrictions that just might reduce the kind of violence seen in Newtown.
we need to try to enforce gun laws for a change. we noticed Obama and liberals including this clown Morgan had nothing to say when 10 were gunned done in Chicago before the election, on ONE WEEKEND – so whats the solution – we take all the legal gun owners rights away because we cannot enforce the damn gun laws? NO and Hell NO
Yup, Piers Morgan respects the Second Amendment, at least he said he did, it's just the First Amendment that he has trouble with.
This is America after all isn't it???
They really got to find out if he was on any prescribed medications. This could be the culprit. Alot of meds have so many bad side effects. If he was on any prescribed meds the drug companies need to sued in the millions.
Lets see the same amount of up roar over the Thousands of Children killed everyday by Abortion or killed by Robot Skynet Drones in the Middle East.
We will never learn the deepest secrets in this investigation. The Police will follow requests from the White House to quash anything that supports the Second Amendments side as to evidence that hinders the Biden banishment of firearms in this once great country. placing Biden in charge of a gun control committee is like putting a bear in charge of the meat counter at the supermarket. He has no interest in protecting the second Amendment, he is a long time gun hater as is Obama, and many liberals like Bumbling Bloomburg, the Mayor of NYC.
I have generally enjoyed Morgan's show in the past and I also agree with the basic premise of what he is trying to say; however, I have to say that it makes me angry to see him invite people onto his show for "dialog", only to berate them, talk over them, and try to make them look foolish. Anyone who has their own show can use this tactic, as they have complete control of the program. On recent programs, Morgan has made Bill O’Reilly look like an objective host. I am beginning to think that Morgan is a phony and just doing this as a ploy to get more viewers.
Exactly. and he ignores their statements. John Lott who knows more about gun violence than anyone in the US beat this idiot with facts and all the fool could say was
bunk" or some other nonsense blow off remark.
I stopped watching CNN now because there are too many idiots like this dope on the air there..
Piers Morgan has made ambush TV what it is today.
Piers has lost his cool. If he really wants to help make an impact and reduce gun violence, he should get off his personal crusade. Passion is important, and certainly needed as part of the response to the terrible tragedy in CT and with preventing future incidents, but too much passion turns people off.
I completed more than 22 years of distinguished military service.I'm a father, grandfather, hunter, gun owner and the proudest American you will eve meet. No one needs high capacity magazines besides our soldiers and law inforcement. Pierce I am behind you 100%.
SFC, I am retired from the military too. Have you read the 2nd amendment? Our forefathers gave us the right to bear arms in case our government becomes tyrantical, like Syria. We are given the right to have high capacity magazines so that we have the ability to take back our government if need be!
Piers coming to this program with his mind made up already. He arrogantly interrupt those who disagree with him. However, Piers' understanding of this issue is very shallow. . What Piers has to offer is simply emotion based talking points without offering any real solution which can withstand reasoning. If all we need is a feel-good idea, this tough problem should have been solved long time ago.
Here is what ppl like Morgan do not get, the cities with the most gun laws have the highest rate of gun violence. The problem that led to this school shooting is culturally based not gun based, and the media like CNN ( who literally glorifies shootings and crazies for ratings they will never get do to fox) are fueling these shootings as we speak. Also if Britain is so great feel free to go back, I know a great journalist who is objective who would love your job.
The AR15 will fire 1 round per second as ALL semi auto rifles, only full auto will fire 4 to 6 rounds a second.
Fact are Facts
I am sick of Piers Morgan. He's been pushing this gun control discussion for a long time at every opportunity he had for a long time now. That's not the problem. The problem is his rued, obnoxious behavior. He does not give his guest a chance to view their opionions or even answer the questions if the answers are not what he wants tohear. He should take a page out of Larry's King's book and interview his guest without being so argumentative and acting like a bully. Why does he keep comparing America with Britian with the number of gun related deaths when America's population is seven times larger. Come on CNN, you can do a lot better than Pierse Morgan, I'm beginging to put your network on the same level as Fox News and I don't watch Fox anymore because of the biasness of the players on that n etwork. Send Piers back to Britain where he belongs and give someone elsethe opportunity who can perform the job better. I tired of listening to that British accent anyway.
I thing Piers is right on. Keep it up.
Teacher Education pension funds shoould unite and DIVEST any funds they have in gun and related industries until meaningful laws are passed to control the flow of arms in America. Money talks. It worked in South Africa. Why not here?
Guns require ammo. Anyone can go online to websites like bulkammo.com and purchase as much as they want. Anyone. They sell with no regard to a persons mental state, if you can pay for it, they will provide it. Think about it. Why not think outside of the box and ensure there are laws and they are enforced on ammunition? Gun owners fear this. Enforce fair limit's on their ammo.
who is anybody to tell me how much ammo i can have i am a armed security guard in California how come people are so selfish and trying to take away the rights of people who responsible and practice gun safety
Your interview with Pratt was just awful and this is coming from someone who basically buys your argument. At the same time I don't stick my head in the sand as you have. If I was your employer I would fire you immediately over the way you conducted this interview. It was a disgrace!
Right on Dave Perry! It was a disgrace! If I was being interviewed, I would have stood up and left.
I agree Dave. Morgan is a disgrace to the news organization. I would also fire him immediately!
Bravo Piers. The logic of that moron is unmistakably missing. By his logic, everyone should be walking around armed. Would that have saved the kids in Newtown, the movie viewers in Aurora, or the coffee drinkers in Seattle? No, there would just be more carnage. Again, applause applause applause Piers. And I was not a fan previous to this.
Piers was appalling in his flagrant lack of respect and ethnocentric views of his superiority. This is not a simple gun control issue. This is complex involving schools, health care workers, mental health works, police and politicians. Gun are a small piece of the problem -- not the entire problem as an apparent simple minded Piers would have people think.
I agree with you on firing Morgan. Although I disagree that making a law to prevent buying high powered guns will help. The people that want guns will get them. From news reports, his mother was trying to get him mental health help and was growing more and more concerned. Speaking from person experience, there's no help. You can't commit an adult unless they've been violent and even then it's not easy. You can't make them take meds. Changing our mental health laws are key. I also like the idea of putting a paid officer at each school.
I used to be a fan . . . but now, not so much. You are almost abusive with your guests and are spewing a very one-sided view of guns in our country. I will no longer be watching, Mr. Morgan. Perhaps when you are interviewing someone, you should refrain from calling them 'ignorant' and listen for a change.
Your passion about gun control is so evident and I have absolutely no problem with your discussion with Mr. Pratt. Unlike other posts I've read on this blog, I will continue to listen to your show. Please don't give up on this discussion on gun control – it will take every bold voice to say loudly and with conviction that Americans will longer remain silent.
Passion and conviction are fine. Interrupting, insults, rudeness and name calling are not. Morgan was unprofessional, and obnoxious. This was a one-sided 'lecture', not a discussion.
Larry King, please come back and bring some integrity to this shame of a network. Piers run for office in Britain if you are so appalled by America. CNN, time to bring professionalism back, tonight was worse than anything I have seen on Fox News, I am not a Fox news fan.
I agree Angus. A true journalist never lets the public know his/her position on an issue. They find people on both sides of the issue, give them equal, uninterrupted time to plead their case. This is the only way a viewer can make an informed decision on an issue.
I agree R. White! WE LOVE YOU PIERS! DON'T LISTEN TO THESE DUMB, UNEDUCATED COMMENTS FROM REDNECK AMERICANS WITH THEIR SICK & TWISTED GUN FETISHES! IT'S TIME TO GROW UP GUN LOVERS!!! YOU ARE NOT THAT SMART. IT IS 2012, NOT 1812. OVER HALF OF THE GUN WORSHIPERS CAN'T EVEN SPELL, AND WE EXPECT THEM TO OWN A GUN? SCREW THE 2ND AMENDMENT! COMMON SENSE COMES INTO PLAY ONCE IN A WHILE. DIDN'T YOUR PARENTS EVER TEACH YOU THAT? THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE AGREE WITH PIERS. BUT, JUST LIKE THE ELECTION, THE MOST OUTSPOKEN GROUP ARE ANGRY BIBLE THUMPERS, MOST LIKELY FROM SOME VERY RURAL AREA. HEY GUN LOVERS: SHUT. THE. HELL. UP. GUNS. ARE. NOT. FOR. CIVILIANS. PERIOD. GET. A. FREAKIN'. LIFE. AND. LEARN. HOW. TO. SPELL. AMERICA IS NOT THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, AND I SAY THAT AS AN AMERICAN. DO NOT WORRY PIERS, THE PRO-GUN COMMENTS ARE ABSOLUTELY 100% NOT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE!!!! PIERS IS **NOT** RUDE. HE CARES. I WOULD BE YELLING TOO!!! SO WOULD MOST AMERICANS......
You are exactly right. I try to watch CNN and msnbc but they have gone over the top. Just turn them off.
Another scary fact about the AR15 rifle that no one has mentioned. In addition to the.223 caliber round, most AR15's can also chamber a .556 round, which is what the military uses. This round is far more deadly and is available to the general public. Great job last night Piers, keep at it!!!!
did you know the mexican cartels have 50 cal weapons and murder thousands of people a year i live in southern california and would like it people would not tread on my rights to operate firearms so i can know i will be safe from evil men and governments if you let them take my rights how long till they take yours too
.223 and 5.56 ammo are the same thing. There is really not a big difference. Both shoot the same bullet, after...wait for it...someone or something puts the ammo in a gun, then pulls the trigger. Either one is dangerous. Man vs guns. Man can always find a way to be violent, whether it be with a gun, knife, sword, club, rock. But it has to be their nature. A gun by itself harms nobody. The bullet harms no one. Most men are not violent, and just because I or anyone else own a gun, that does not make me or my children killers. I have however experience in my life, more than once, where possession of a gun on my part or others literally saved my life and/or my family. Criminals don't follow laws, don't care about them or the consequences. When you take possession of firearms away from the law abiding citizen, you leave defenseless people with no recourse to protect themselves, family or possessions. I am absolutely disgusted by Piers Morgan and his emotionally charged political bullcrap. We are all completely saddened by the events that happened in Newtown. The one thing I do know, without a doubt, is that those children and teachers are in a better place with God. He loves them all and mourns not just those events, but the events that go on today and the absolute moral deterioration of our society. This land was founded and built on the belief in God, and the more we push him out of our lives, the more these types of tragedies will happen. My fear is that we as a country and society haven't suffered enough to humble us all sufficiently. I just know that pompous bullies with an agenda are the last people I want to hear from, or would ever take advice. Shame on you Piers for disgraceful pandering of this event, and your attempt to adulturate the rights of the all people.
Before you open your mouth and talk about anti-gun issues know your facts first. a .223 caliber and the 5.56mm(not.556) is what the AR-15 uses. So your comment about one is more powerful than the other is WRONG, .223 and 5.56 are the same thing one is a caliber and one is in milimeter.
Next time some one dies in a Drunk Driving Accident I say we ban cars and gasoline since those were the cause of the accident not the driver. Guns dont kill pepople kill.
I just cant believe the once strong Americans will let some reject Limey, socialist Britain, come to their country, get on the US State Run Media channel...ie CNN, and tell Americans WHAT TO DO.
Have Americans all turned to Jelly Fish,in a Nanny State??
As a Loyal American who served his beloved country in Europe, I can say that you are the most horrible news person, I ever heard. You are a classless moron, that needs to go back to the Uk. Your no Churchill. You were rude to that person you interviewed last night and lost all my respect...
What does America see in you?
Someone has to wake you up, the country is cancerous,
Most gun owners and gun crime than any other country in the world
Biggest user of legal drugs and illegal drugs in the world.
Largest number of drunk driving fatalities in the world.
Largest number of suicides in the world
I think we are a little worse off than jelly fish and it makes me laugh that the USA thinks their the great policeman of the world when we cannot even look after our own internal problems...........thank heavens someone is trying to help even if its an outside perspective which is sometimes the most crucial and subjective.
Merry self righteous Christmas
I agree with Piers in his views but at the same time I don't think it is his job to become the news only to report it. I think he is overstepping his job to force his opinion in reporting a story.
As Mark Twain said, and is so appropriate when it comes to Mr. Morgan's opinions, "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
As a Canadian, I can't believe that any American has the right to own more than one hand gun. I have plenty of relatives and I don't know of one the has a gun, rifle for hunting, yes. And we also don't have school shootings.
This issue cannot be ignored any longer, when is enough a enough. You might not like Mr Morgans approach but he is bringing this to every Americans attention. Keep it up Pierce we need to keep talking about it!
God bless you, Piers Morgan. Keep talking about gun control. Maybe, eventually, America will listen.
you are a disgrace to our country. I would have fired you on the spot for conductiing yourself like that. You apparently dont know what Americans stand for in this country. And do your research, the violence has went up in the countries that have banned guns. obviously not by guns but by other means. so you figure it out. IF you like it so much in gun controlled countries then move there
You don't have the facts. Violence has gone down in countries that have passed legislation on gun control.
You are probably correct violence has gone up all around the world, but when the world looks at America all it sees and hears is violence with guns and there are stats to prove it
Let me get this straight. Piers Morgan is an anchor on CNN and someone ELSE is dangerous and a shame on the country? yeah...right!!!
Keep on bringing the gun issue to the attention of the American people. Perhaps more will start to listen. Guns in the hands of every citizen is not the answer.
insurance companies when selling homeowners ins. restrict certain breeds of dogs when you apply for insurance. Why don't the insurance companies deny or charge more for homeowners insurance for people who own guns? Hurt these people in their wallets and maybe they will change their minds.
have had the opportunity to watch your show. i fully agree with your position on gun control, however, your position is so clear that can not be tainted by not letting your guests to speak. is seems unnecessary to interrupt them as you have done few times. the tragedy is big enough that rudeness is not required. please keep your class and demeanor at all times.
I do not understand how you can have someone like Pierce Morgan hosting a TV show when he is clearly prejudice and non-objective. Also he is in to name calling. This guy has got to go.
ASSAULT WEAPONS SHOULD BE BANNED .
We are talking about mentally ill people who can misuse these weapons. If no one has these kind of AR 15 in their home then any mentally unstable or stable person just cannot use it for wrong purpose.
No one requires assault weapons or militry style weapon to defense themselves.
These gun crazy people say that they are civilized and very responsible people. What kind of civilized society gives guns to teachers and school staff. If this is their solution then tomorrow they will say give guns to innocent kids too to save themselves.
Put yourself in the shoes of those who lost their kids and for god's sake think before you open your mouth.
The only solution is to BAN ASSAULT WEAPON.
NO ACCESS TO THESE KIND WEAPONS NO KILLINGS , MENTALLY STABLE OR UNSTABLE, IF ONE CANNOT GET THE AR15 HE CANNOT JUST GO AND KILL INNOCENT KIDS AND PEOPLE.
You say "BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS" please explain to me what a assault weapon is? The term Assault Weapon is a buzz word created by the media to sensationalize their story. If one gets assaulted with a rock, bat or a pencil does that make those items a assault rock, assault bat or a assault pencil?
A mentally ill person who is wanting to kill they will kill whith what ever means they can use. If one uses a mini van to kill a bunch of people will you want all mini vans banned?
GO BACK TO THE UK AND VOICE YOUR GUN OWNERSHIP CONCERNS. YOU ARE NOT AN AMERICAN, THUS YOUR PITIFUL VIEWS ON GUN OWNERSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES HAVE NO WARRANT.
Why be so bitter? does the truth hurt? Maybe Pierce is angry and upset that 20 innocent children were killed, and he is so passionate that he doesnt want it to happen again, maybe he is fed up with the same arguement that its a right to have semi-automatic guns, so anyone/someone has the opportunity to do mass killings. America you need to look at the big picture and get out of this me, myself and I concept.
Instead of all americans standing up & screaming like Piers you attack a man who has an opinion different to most
No wonder you country is heading down hill so quickly.
I'm cheering for USA, But I dont have a lot of confidence for your country.
That first amendment right isn't as upholdable as your second, huh?
1st amendment rights are for Americans just like 2nd amendment rights are!
Piers Morgan is spewing lies on CNN about the guns he wants to see banned! First, let me say that Morgan is not an American, he is a British citizen in America on a work visa that takes a job away from an American. I don't understand what gives him the audacity to tell Americans if we can have guns or not.
He said on tv that these guns are machine guns that can fire 100 bullets per minute. This is not true. Machine guns, which are fully automatic and can fire hundreds of rounds per minute are not legal in the U.S. already. These guns, including the rifle that this mentally ill young man used in Newtown, Ct. are not machine guns. They only fire one shot each time you pull the trigger. Machine guns continue to fire at a very fast pace as long as you hold down the trigger. I am retired from the military and I know weapons!!!
Piers Morgan's views on American's rights to bear arms are irrelavent. He needs to go back to England where they banned all guns and yet gun crimes have risen 79% over the last ten years and 39% over the last year in England. Now, the only ones in England with guns are the criminals.
Why attack someone’s Nationality? It makes you sound uneducated, Has he making you angry? are you are starting to see his point of view and might actually agree with his argument? This is a good thing, we need to talk about this issue, also your clarification on how many bullets a gun can fire makes you sound silly, 20 innocent children still lost their lives to a high powered gun within seconds.
It's obvious you"re right and any one who favors any gun ownership in your eyes, as you've rudely in only your high english way, makes it right to be obnoxous to any one who doesn't have your views and call them stupid. Well, I no longer intend to ever watch you again but I will leave you food for thought.
I know it was a long time ago,but if the Jews in the 30 and 40's had a few guns maybe 6 million of them and 5 million others would not have been char-broiled! So when you all powerful one gets all and I mean all criminals to turn in their guns I'll turn in mine! And if you think the gun control you spout about will keep guns out of their hands then I must borrow youe favorite phrase-you're stupid!
It not just the British, its seems if America doesn’t like what they hear they attack someone nationality. Keep it up America the world is watching
I am not attacking his nationality. I have many British friends and I have fought side by side with British troops. I do have a problem with Piers Morgan, who is not an American, trying to tell Americans what guns they can have!
Have you been reading the comments? everyone is telling him to go home to Britain. America should be embracing this discussion, Piers has a passion for this issue he doesnt want this to happen again as he stated it talked about for a week then goes quiet again until the next slaughter, he doesnt want to sweep this under the mat. I think its good for America to hear a different persons view especiallt someone who wasnt raised and bred in America.
Americans do not want non-Americans telling us what to do. England banned guns and gun crimes went up 39% over the last year. Now, only criminals have guns in England. Why should Americans listen to the British on this subject?
Keep your nose out of Americans business and no one will attack you!
You don’t get it, it’s not about a nationality telling you to get rid of guns. Go back and play Cowboys while the parents who are mourning the 20 children no longer have any more xmas with them.
British, No one hurts more for the families of those killed in Newtown more than law abiding citizens that believe in our 2nd amendment rights. Tell me, since guns were banned in England, what percent has gun crimes increased? It is 39% over the last year! Why should Americans listen to Brits who are telling us to do something that failed in England?
I am not actually british nor do I live in britain, I am just wanted to point out why we attackjing a nationality, when we should be discussing this issue and not getting personal and being bitter. You are so correct there is too much violence in the world, violence has been around since the world began, but why make should it be so damn easy to massacre a whole lot of innocent children. We should be discussing how this should never happen again not shooting the messenger Mr Morgan (excuse the pun).
No nationality has a corner on rude obnoxious and arrogant, but Piers did raise the threshold last night. Rather than an interview, Piers highjacked any 'discussion' into a one-man tirade. He needs a class on 'class' and how to control himself. And for the commenter above suggesting he was upset, get real. The entire country is devastated, and even the parents who lost children are speaking in a composed fashion.
To Mike – where are you getting your data? From the inception of gun control, yes, your figures are accurate. The British Home Office in early 2012 released the following: "In England and Wales there were 388 firearm offences in which there was a fatal or serious injury, 13% lower than in 2009/10. The number of offences resulting in slight injury in 2010/11 was 5% lower than the number recorded in the previous year. In almost 80% of firearms offences no injury occurred. The injury classification is different in Scotland. There were 2 fatal injuries and 109 non-fatal injuries in 2010/11. The total number of injuries was the lowest number recorded for at least a decade." Do your homework, Mike. And compare the numbers, not just percentage changes: 338 offences in the UK compared to over 31,000 in US.
Yeah, and what language would the British be speaking if our gun toting fathers had not gone over to europe and saved their limey bean a$$es
Well said Suzie
Everyone is talking about mental health, yes that may an issue, but why is it women do not pick an assault weapon and go into a community or schools or a movie theater gunning down everybody. Think about this seriously. A mad man does not plan on killing people. Take in to consideration the sniper in Washington DC, no one stop to think whether he had mental problems. He was a war veteran, no on try to get into the mind of this killer. Guns should be ban to every citizen, if people want to shoot they should go to a shooting range and the guns remain there. If there are no guns in the hands of ordinary citizens people would not be a afraid to be in their homes and would not have to have guns for protection. The guns should be in the hands of law enforcement and buisnessman. American is becoming a WAR ZONE. Our children will never be safe with all these deadly weapons in the hands of everyone who love killing people.
Keep living in a fantasy world. England banned guns and gun crime rose 39% in the last year. If you ban guns, only criminals will have them. You better hope a law abiding citizen with a concealed carry weapon is there if a criminal is about to shoot you or your children because the law abiding citizen will stop the criminal!!!!
Google Englands gun ban and see how much it helped solve there crime. Gun crimes are up 70 % over ten years and 39% over the last year alone. When you ban guns, only the criminals will have them. You should pray that a law abiding citizen with a concealed carry permit is near you if a criminal decides to shoot you or your children. The law abiding citizen with his concealed weapon will stop the criminal and save you and your children's lives.
Thank you, Piers Morgan, for showing the moral outrage that many of us feel about the gun culture in this country. You are saying exactly the right things in exactly the right way. I was never much of a fan of CNN, but I very much appreciate the passion and reason that you bring to this issue. I hope and pray that you continue to do so and that others (especially politicians) follow your lead. THANK YOU!
Over 300 M guns are not enough to protect our kindergardeners. Perhaps every child entering kindergarten should be issued a pistol and taught how to shoot accurately.
OR reduce guns by taxing each transaction $10k and each bullet $10, plus an yearly tax of $1000 per weapon- with over 300 M guns that adds up.
Gun dealers should pay $500k yearly to deal and also be subject to unlimited civil and criminal negligence lawsuits for their complicity just like car accidents. Congress also should be held responsible, but why start being responsible now as they continue to be rewarded for incompetence in many areas.
Close the open season on our children.
You are lucky I fought in the military to help give you the 1st amendment right to say such a stupid thing. There is a reason why our founding fathers gave us the right to bear arms! Look it up!
yes lets add a a Tax to every gun purchased and every pullet bought, then with every accident in this country lets add a tax on every Quart of gas, oil, windshield wiper fluid, tires, and every else thing we use on our cars.
your starting to sound just like piers, go back where you came from. You are so far out there your sanity should be ?ed
Piers can't agree with you more. I think it is great that you want to disarm America. Too bad no one watches your show. Somewhere in England a village is missing its idiot.....
I am so discussed after hearing the Piers Morgan attack on our 2nd amendment. I cannot believe any media outlet would air such an idiot. To say he was unprofessional is an understatement. He hides behind our 1st amendment while trashing the other. If the gun violence is so low in jolly old England, why is he here? Oh wait, we have freedoms here that he cannot exploit over there. God Bless the USA!!! CNN, you can do better and until you do, I will no longer be a viewer.
Some of the comments above and my own experience (talking as a foreigner in the US) reaffirm that it is distracting for a non-citizen to make impassioned statements either for or against the 2nd amendment, even among moderates. Hopefully you've seen enough evidence and received enough feedback to show that you'd end up distracting your viewers with an outsider's perspective – even if its perfectly sensible and reasonable. During the discussion tonight, steer clear of your view on the 2nd amendment (for or against). Respect that yours is an outsider's perspective and that perspective will be DISTRACTING – not right or wrong, just distracting for your viewers. I suggest you go so far as to highlight it is not your place to comment for or against the 2nd amendment – that is how viewers (even moderates) feel. Defer to one of your guests who shares your views.
Your confrontational style is no doubt a reason you have the CNN job – nonsense that you'd be fired for it; never stop giving it your all. I enjoy watching you dish out a flogging now and again, whether I agree or disagree with it.
And this country has received a total of twenty-one Peace Nobel Awards, can you actually believe it?
Thanks Piers Morgan for standing up to the NRA. Please do not let NRA intimidated you.
Finally we minorities(against guns) can have our voices heard. Thank you for your passion and support.
Well Piers did not STAND up to the NRA, get your facts straight. He was talking to Larry Pratt Executive Director of Gun Owners of America which is not the NRA. You say your the minorities(against guns) well in this country majority rules here.
I would expect nothing less from a state run media outlet like CNN. Piers is a great edition to your American trashing programs. I think he should organize a giant gun burning event. Where he could lead the millions of people who own guns in shouting, "Heil Obama! Heil Obama, Sieg Heil!"
I have never watched your show and I never will. Especially after last night's horrific interview and your cowardly and callous Twitter post. Of course, ultra-liberal CNN will keep you. Quite frankly, I think you should take your embarassingly shallow views back to England. We don't need you here.
Piers, I rarely watch your program because of your abrasive interview style. You are shrill. You often talk over your guests. You frequently are rude, especially since the Sandy Hook tragedy. I and countless others support strong gun control, but we want to hear what the other side is saying. How can you and we argue against the NRA and gun-rights advocates if we cannot hear what they are saying. So, Piers, take a page from Wolf's book. Listen carefully. Keep your voice calm. Stop pontificating.
I side with Lucille. Mr. Morgan did a disservice to the innocent victims at Sandy Hook by refusing to enter into a civil debate, acting condescending, and insulting his guest.
Just saw your very rude interview with Mr. Platt. Really Piers, in your line of work I would have thought you had better control over your emotions than what you displayed to the public. Regardless of all the name calling and rudeness displayed by you, the FACT remains there wouldn't be near the number of fatalities at the school (or as you brought up, the movie theater) if the adults had been armed. Kind-of makes you angry, when someone points out that your kind-of-thinking is contributing to the problem, doesn't it? You may not understand this, not being from this country, but the purpose of the 2nd Ammendment was not so people could go hunting. The "right of the people to KEEP AND BEAR ARMS, shall not be infringed" (direct quote of 2nd Amendent) in the United States. Why you ask? "Necessary to the SECURITY of a FREE State. In other words, the citizens of the US have the RIGHT to DEFEND themselves and that includes schools and movie theaters!
Piers, you have become more and more outspoken, arrogant and rude with your guests on your show ! When it comes to Gun Control you pontificate ad nauseum talking over the very people you have asked to come on your show to give their point of view. The way you have been conducting yourself you don't need people on your show. Just get up on your platform and pontificate with anger all by yourself. I don't care to watch CNN when your show is on because of the way you shame your country !!!! I guess you consider this your country. You need to shut up and listen to your guests. We all know what your thoughts are on this.
Piers, Take your view of the United States Firearm ownership and go back to the U.K. which you obiviously think is a better place than the United States. We fought a Revolutionary War 236 years ago to rid us of your country's oppressive government and have had to pull your county's chestnuts out of the fire twice in the 20th Century. Americans really do not give a damn of your opinions of our 2nd Ammendment rights to bear arms.
I 2nd that Amendment, er, opps, I mean emotion!
I agree with you pierce. Does the right of owning an assault rifle really have priority over a childs right to live?
I don't get it, I just don't get it. Those of us who contest the sale of such guns are not asking for the moon, NRA is being selfish and greedy. They want it all. This does not make sense and it truly reflects on our country this insane view of NRA. My heart breaks every single day. So they (NRA) really think we could round up all the mentally unstable, quicker than we could sanely stop the sale of these rifles? In my mind, anything that would help, would help.
Yeah more legislation, that's the ticket. In fact, let's simply legislate away mental illness. That would be just as effective as more restricting gun laws.
Explain what a Assault Rifle is please. I bet you cant.
pierce can we talk about gun safety i like using the AR-15 for sport shooting it is a hobby, i carry a firearm the glock 19 a 9mm handgun at work how come no one is thinking about us who are responsible with them
i am a armed security gaurd its how i make a living
Piers is an arrogant uptight brit know it all- entertainment tonight or Nancy Grace is more his speed.
I will not call you Mister. If you do not like the second amendment of the United States of America, feel free to go back to England and please leave all the money you made off the American public here. I fought for my country, and some jerk like you that is not even a citizen of the United States will never get me to give up my guns by ANY MEANS!!
I am an honorably discharged veteran of the USMC, registered as an Independent and born in the U.S. I fail to understand how CNN can hire an individual with such limited capability as Piers Morgan. Why did he relocate to the U.S., is he still upset over the Revolutionary War and being beaten by ARMED U.S. citizens? His argument of sticking his head in the sand is so typical of many of the British and they were very fortunate to have a Winston Churchill to protect their rear ends or they would all be speaking German today. I plan to make sure in the future when he is on the air to watch cartoons, they will make more sense. I truly hope the powers at CNN wake up and send this turkey packing.
Fire him and send him back to the UK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pompous ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Who cares what he thinks! Really we care what he thinks? What a bunch of sheep with their noses up each others a#$ being led to slaughter by the useless oppinionated meda. Disgusting!
The pro-gun lobby insists that American citizens need to carry guns for their own protection. That's the situation in disastrous states like Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo or South Sudan. One of the basic hallmarks of a 'civilized' country is that the vast majority of its citizens can go about their business unarmed, without being in constant fear for their lives. Obviously nothing can be failsafe but, generally, it works out well – in civilized countries. The pro-gun lobby claims not to believe that that is the situation in America, so, by this yardstick, is it right for us outsiders to consider America a civilized nation at all?
I just read an article a few minutes ago that said both Chucky Shumer and Dianne Feinstien had concealed carry permits, Armed guards also. check it out yourself,
Thank you Piers for exposing the Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America. The guy seems to have the IQ of a toad (my apologies to the toads of the world). It's time that Americans can see the dangerous quacks that are in charge of the gun lobby. Let's all work together to make the next generation of Americans a "non-shooting generation"!
Typical, It seems like the best argument gon contral advocate have is demonizing and ridiculing gun owners, If they can somehow slander the gun owner then they can move opinion in their favor. Then comes a total lack of any historical context or case study (Australia). A total disreguard for individual liberties and freedoms. Just slander and loud argument, I am sure you have everyone's best interest in mind, Ha Ha.
Ron, go ahead and pack your bags. You can return with Piers when he goes back to England.
Piers- I applaud your tireless efforts to get the U.S. to impose stricter gun controls and I emphathize with you for the painful, distressing interview with Pratt. Why would a teacher have been more able to fend off this murderer if his own Mother, who is a skilled gun owner, couldn't save herself and thus prevented the sad, sad school massacre? So disturbing to watch the idiot Pratt last night and so sad that Newton and the rest of the Country have had the holidays taken away.
25,000 Americans die every year on the roads due to alcohol and Americans "love affair" with alcohol as a gun banner would frame it. This is Earth the people here are violent, guns are here to stay, look at the U.S. military. If you have any ideas to promote world peace speak up. A gun is a weapon. Man creates weapons, Man is the problem any objections with that logic?
CLINT,I am not sure what context you are using when you say U.S.MILITARY,but we fight so that you dont have to and we do it voluntarily so that you can exercise your 1st amendment rights.
His mother cound not defend herself because she was sleeping when he shot her duuuh!
If an effective solution to the problem is going to be found, the problem has to be defined. Thus far it has only been partially defined and that will not do. Some say it is a “gun control” problem and we need legislation. Some say we need more education for gun owners. Others claim that it is a “mental health” problem. Still others say it is primarily a “security” problem.
I would suggest this. All of those things only partially define the problem and partial solutions will solve virtually nothing.
We are missing the obvious here. The gun problem in America is much more than any of those things.
It is an ADDICTION and must be looked at and treated as such. An organization, such as AA (call it GA) needs to be formed across America by former and current gun owners to handle this addiction at the grass roots level. It may not evolve to a physical addiction, as Alcoholism does, but it is a severe psychological addiction—a dysfunction based on irrational security fears. The very existence of the millions upon millions of those weapons across the US and our obsession with them suggests at the very least, irrationality—at the worst, insanity. Our reasons for gun worship and the unnatural need for all that weaponry must be explored and seen for what it is.
GA meetings at a “grass route” level with a Twelve Step approach would be the appropriate environment for that exploration, and the most likely place for solutions to be found.
At GA meetings questions like these would be asked: Is that gun you own and your reasons for owning it, more important than the children’s lives that were obliterated in Connecticut? Can you legitimately call yourself a Christian and carry a gun? Who is more courageous—the man or woman who surrounds him or herself with one or twenty guns, or the man or woman who refuses to buckle in the face of fear and danger and dares to live without them?
These questions will have the most gravitas, not when asked by TV and Newspaper commentators, but when asked by those who have dealt with their gun obsession and found a way out of it.
That is why such a group as GA must be formed. Otherwise we will continue to offer only partial solutions for a partially defined problem and the murders will continue to occur at the same rate with the same or worse intensity.
Look at this Mr. Morgan and let your experts continue to do what they do. . . Nothing!
I believe something has to be done about gun control. I do hope the decision is made by much cooler heads than Piers. He has been totally unprofessional, verging on lunatic, in his rants. He is supposed to be the 'host'. He should never be allowed to offer any type of discussion on gun control. He also has no right to call our politicians cowards. I couldn't believe he said that. He should lose his job. He has been the opposite of professional. I can only hope that when our politicians sit down to make decisions about our gun laws; cool, adult and compassionate heads prevail. Piers needs to head back across the pond since he finds us so barbaric and cowardly.
Something that concerns me is that a mentally unstable person had access to a semi-automatic weapon. His mother had all the qualifications neccessary and owned that weapon. I have no problem with that. What troubles me is that she, knowing her son was unstable, let her son have access to these weapons. Maybe background checks for gun-owners shouldn't just be for the owner, but for their immediate family and the problems that their surroundings may start.
All public officials in the US have to swear to defend America against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. It's time for public officials and the public in general to consider gun rights advocates and organisations like the NRA as domestic enemies of the American people and repeal the Second Amendment behind which they are hiding. The whole world views Americans as ultimately responsible by not tackling the issue head on.
The Second Amendment was an idea that the American Experiment was founded on, and nobody should be able to repeal it. People do have the right to bear arms. What arms they bear can be restricted, though. I completely support self-defense weapons, but assault weapons I do not. You have good intentions, but the wrong means of restoring the sanity to America.
It is sad that in America we have to have an NRA to protect the 2nd Amendment. If you want to talk enemies the talk the Federal Reserve who has pretty much destroyed your country.
WOW SAM,maybe you should pack your ass up and yourself and piers can travel together, bosom buddies or fellow idiots/
right there with ya robby52 wish he would go back home. its obvious he hates this country, but for some reason he's to scared to go back home. maybe he talked about his country like he talks about ours.
Well if that is how you feel I dont like what you post so lets repeal our First Amendment, and then lets repeal our Tenth Amendment just so the Federal Government can take care of us and not our state we live in.
Now they are saying female teachers are too wimpy. They could never know what a gun is, or how to use it.
He is an FBI trainer doing a news segment on another show. Another reason teachers can't have guns according to him – "Female kindergarten teachers do not wear clothes that allows concealed carry".
So glad Canada kicked your ass in 1812 so we could live in a sane country with an appropriately designed government!
God thank you!
Fiscal cliff, you have a much bigger mountain to climb
Merry Fiscal Cliff!
First of all, I am appalled by the ignorance Mr. Morgan showed his guest for having a differing opinion than his own.
I am a 26 year old first grade teacher. I work in a tough part of town and we have a very open campus where our buildings have doors that are so old they often malfunction and cannot be secured. I completely agree with the guest suggesting that teachers have guns. We all have file cabinets and such that lock and if we were given the type of safe that gives us fast access in each classroom, I would be all for it. I have no locking bathroom, no locking closet. Knowing I had a gun to protect myself AND my young students, would make me feel so much better. Since Lanza killed himself when law enforcement arrived, I doubt he would have even attempted his sick act if he had known that all the teachers and principals were armed.
But think about the kids! What if they managed to get their hands on that gun?!?!
Really C? People walk around everyday with a concealed handgun and no one knows. So what do you think? That teachers are below average intelligence and are so dumb they can't keep their gun concealed and safe from a child.
Piers, or whatever your name is, please go home and mind your own business. Nobody cares what you have to say. Really, nobody. Go home now if you don't like what REAL Americans stand for. Why did you leave your home anyways? F'n tool.
Oh, and by the way, CNN is my favorite news channel. I will no longer be watching Piers and I suggest we all boycott his program. Nothing speaks like ratings and advertising dollars.
You Sir are so misinformed. Why not discuss how the violent crime rate in the UK is 10X greater per capita than in the US? I thought guns made people violent? Disarming citizens will make them victims. Will you be there to protect us when criminals conduct their evil deeds?
If a wild animal were charging me, I would think a 1000 round magazine would not be enough. I do not have the mental illness Hoplophobia.
I personally was glad to see Piers get so irate last night. This issue SHOULD make people irate. I believe that it's important to understand that this is a multi-faceted issue. It's not just gun control or mental health...but that's a good place to start. Add in a violence-oriented society, the constant exposure to violence through all forms of media (including movies and video games), the belief that violence is the way to solve problems, massive cuts in mental health services, the downhill trend of our schools, lack of parental involvement, and a very great need for increased focus on the lives of our youth...We need to understand their development, the problems they face, what they need to become healthy adults, how to relate to them, how to take care of them, how to identify potential problems, make mental health services readily available, provide support for parents of youth who have a mental/emotional/developmental illness. It's not a simple fix. We need everyone to get on board. But I firmly believe that a massive change in gun control laws in this country is a very appropriate place to start, followed very quickly by improving mental health services. Thanks, Piers, for speaking out for many of us.
first of all i need to say that my heart breaks for the children ,teachers, and their families for this horrific tragedy.
that having been said i will also add that piers morgan needs to be removed from the air and soon.
he constantly invites people on his "show'in the guise of offering to hear their side and then slams them, cuts them off, calls them names, and totally refuses to be neutral enough to allow these people their opinions.
PIERS! people kill people, that gun cannot fire itself and i dont give a damn what your country did to strip your citizens of their right to bear arms.
this country was founded on that very basic principal but i really do not expect someone like you to ever understand that reasoning.it is time for you to go.....
Piers Morgan , please leave my country and never return and if you do stay, don't ever bring your sorry British ass to the Republic of Texas !!!
It's hard to admit when those in and from other countries have a better handle on what's going on in the U.S. than we do ourselves. I welcome Mr. Morgan's response and am grateful that he is standing up for his beliefs and calling out the "crazed second amendment radicals" who see only one thing...their perceived right to be armed to the teeth.
How does Mr. Morgan hold any credibility in regards to firearms, Second Amendment interpretation, or domestic culture of the United States? His last invited guest was insulted and called "stupid" amongst other words by Mr. Morgan. Name calling does not lend credibility to your argument, but instead shows you have nothing constructive to add.
How dare you stupid brit get on the air and say i have no god damn right to protect my family, see what happens when you try and take that away from law abiding citizens this will not stand. Go back to your country because you have s*** coming out every time you speak, this is america and we are god damn proud of it. This coming from a concealed permit holder.
Yes I agree with many others that Piers should go back to his homeland that he loves so much. However, I see he came to Amercia to make his self rich and tell Americans how to run our country. Go home Piers! I will gladly pitch in to help cover your one way airfare. I will not support your show any more or any show that your own. You weren't there to discuss the options but rather gives your view of how your right and the rest of us are wrong. You insulte your guest, called them stupid and totaly dismiss them and their views. I second and love what James said above," please leave my country and never return and for sure never bring your sorry disrepectful arrogant ass to Texas.
Kudos to you on doing an awesome job on gun violence. A simple question to all gun owners in the US: Can you take a pledge that you WILL NOT use your guns for a period of one year. Let us use this one year moratorium to enact sensible laws to prevent future tragedies. Are you willing to make this simple sacrifice of not TOUCHING your guns till we bottom out on this issue? Piers- can you pose this question tonight in your Town Hall meeeting. Thank You. S Ram
I spent 20 yrs in the u.s.army to include the first gulf war and I have a healthy respect for firearms and know what it is like to be shot at.
tragedies like this are certainly not taken lightly and contrary to what PIERS thinks we the AMERICAN people really do understand the gravity of this situation and would gladly have taken out garbage like this shooter,if you would only get out of our way.
there are millions of us (U.S.) gun owners who are responsible, moral, law abiding, and well grounded people who may one day have to hold this country up if need be.
do not lump us together with this fringe society of disturbed individuals who should not possess so much as a butter knife.......
According to the FBI within the US in 2011 there were 12,664 murders. The vast majority was committed by firearms numbering at 8,583. However, shotguns were used more often than rifles 356 to 323 times while personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.) have committed more than double the number of murders than shotguns or rifles or the sum of the two for a total of 726 homicides. Knives or cutting instruments caused 1,694 people to lose their life.
s ram,not a bad idea! I would be willing to do that if "you" can guarantee me that in that time frame nobody will threaten myself,my family, or my home. otherwise all bets are off!
robby55, 'We' need to take baby steps in building trust with each other. The 'we' includes trusting law enforcement in our society that they will do their job and protect us from the very valid threats you describe.
They are law enforcement, not Batman. They can't be everywhere at anytime in a matter of seconds. How long do you think you have from the time someone kicks in your door to when he is on top of you? Lets be serious.
there is a lot of truth to what you say and i would like nothing more than to be able to trust everyone of my fellow man
but the sad fact is that none of us can know where a threat might come from, and situations do pop up out of the blue often without planning on the part of the perpetrator.
dont get me wrong,i do sit around and wish for something to happen, but i do plan for such an event.
Wimps carry guns to make up for their fear of internal issues that they cannot solve without one!
The government needs redesigning, democracy my ass you paid billions in campaign funds to put the same president in office and nothing changed, NRA paying politicians to keep the status quo what a load of puppets!
Sweet dreams children your adults have you covered!
and i suppose that everyone in the military is a wimp for using those guns so that you have the right to express your sorry-ass logic that the rest of us have to tolerate every time someone like you expresses your mis-guided and dillussional opinions.
Hello Piers, with the desperate urgent need for discipline and positive adult role models amongst today's kids, your
apalling and extremely disrepectful behavior was absolutely inexcusable.
I would urge you to make a public apology on tonight's show so as to set an example of responsability.
As Alec Baldwin recently said to you on your show, more rigorous background checks are needed and indeed there
are people that should not be able to have a License to own a firearm.
Think also that it is not just intelligent effective gun control that it's needed here, is a matter of CRIMINAL CONTROL.
Remember also that there has been a lot of ocassions that responsible gun owners under attack have been able to
repel attacks saving their own lives and in some instances saving others.
Good evening and Merry Christmas.
I wish Piers would get his facts straight. The AR-15 is not a "machine" gun. Unlike its military precursor, it fires only once per trigger-pull. Gun-haters don't like to get down in the weeds about the technical details.
That said, I mostly agree with him. Nobody needs more than a six-shooter in the house for home defense. Carrying concealed weapons in public is, for most people, dangerous.
The AR-15 is not the sportsman's choice in the field - not because it isn't useful, but because it can't easily mount an easy telescopic sight. It's a lethal toy, with much more utilitarian sports rifles available.
I would vote for a ban on them (their appeal is suburban, not serious field), and allow American free access to 10-or-less pistols, and five-or-less bolt or lever-action riles, and five or less pump action shotguns.
A way to look at gun control is compare Chicago and Houston. Both cities are the same size. Chicago has a gun violence problem, very high murder rate and Houston does not. Chicago has a very strict gun policy (gun control) and on conceal carry, Houston is the opposite. Any question about what gun control brings.
You oversimplify the issue. The population demographics, culture, history, and societal norms ALL contribute to those statistics. You attribute the result to on factor rather than the reality of the many factors involved.
It is an undeniable fact that even nations with a very strict gun control have suffered mass killings in the past. In Norway a killer last year murdered 77 people without using a so called assault rifle, in China in 2010 over 20 children have been murdered at school with knives and the like. I have a question for all the anti gun people. If you pulled up right behind last Friday shooter and saw him entering the school fully armed and witnessed him aiming the gun at those poor children, what would you wish you had available to you?
I used to like and watch the show, but you come to this country and talk down to the citizens that live here?? Guns will forever be a part of this nation and if you don't like it go back to your country and stay there. Don't be mad because of the ass kicking that our forefathers and their guns gave to your arrogant little country. If it weren't for the right to defend, we might be flying your flag over the capital instead of the Stars and Stripes. That young man was deranged and if there was some sort of security protecting the school then the outcome may have been different. Why is it that banks can have armed guards protecting money but we can't have armed guards protecting our children in school??? I guess America has deemed money more important.......This is what happens when someone brings a gun into a zone deemed "gun free".....My prayers go out to those families. Very sad. That is all. Piers go back to your country. I hope you lose ratings and they cancel your show.
I, like many across this country, have been involved in a rigorous and painstaking discussion about the status in this country. I've covered, at length, the merits of being able to have a gun for personal protection but also an undying trepidation about the unhealthy attachments to guns and the inherent risks they pose. It is important to note that while I am an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I am also cognizant of the fact that there needs to be universal set parameters and guidelines to accompany that freedom. I have noticed an undue emphasis on self-defense, with little attention given to the addictions to power and autonomy that guns provide, even in relation to outsiders with guns. Likewise, to counter-act the notion that guns are dangerous, people are quick to point out that other ubiquitous commodities can be fashioned and/or used in such a way as to achieve the kind of devastation that we've seen over recent months. I have thus fervently contested that line of thought on the grounds that it diverts attention away from the appeal of guns, and attempts to undermine some very important differences. First and foremost, what makes ballistic weapons so desirable is the fact that they don't require a high level of proficiency to operate, and require very little physical ability to be effective. Secondly, guns don't require you to be in close proximity with your target, they're easily portable, and with the right features, can cause destruction at a very fast pace and on a massive scale. Furthermore, some people are so overwrought with a sense of power and invincibility when wielding a gun that, even for a rational mind, it consumes them and clouds their better judgement.
The rifle in the picture looks like an M4 (the Ed Show). It has an extendable shoulder stock. Differences in accessories and barrel length distinguishes between the AR15, M16, and M4 models. This one has gas ejection from the barrel to load the next round. The new design has a small cylinder and piston to transmit a force on a pushrod that travels along the barrel to the lower, or receiver, for said round loading. I'm going for my Federal Firearms License. I'm studying the Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide 2005, and the ATF National Firearms Act Handbook. I'm going to try to get some stripped lowers (receivers) on sale on an 11'th hour deal before they are made illegal to grandfather in the serial numbers.
i do not own an a.r.(wish i did),but i was able to take a mauser 48 and drop it into a sporterized stock,got rid of the 8mm barrel,and installed a 308 barrel.
i refer to it as a poor mans project but it is a good shooter and that after all is the intent.
I want to do a variation/clone of the Franklin Armory XO-26. It's not a rifle, or a pistol, or an AOW. Supposedly, no tax stamp is required. I'm going to push the ATF letter in their face in Form 1. Then I'll see if it's for real.
This Morgan fellow i badly in need of a good whipping.
whoop his ass kwisatz!
his program will be coming on @ 9 which is 4 minutes from now and i will watch his sorry ass because his antics are laughable and i need a good laugh after all of the carnage we have all witnessed through the eyes of the media these past days.(maybe we will be viewing what i hope is the last of his program)
It is admirable that Morgan and Ed will allow us to post dissenting, if not insulting messages. Maddow will block people who don't agree with her on her blog.
Piers, I am so proud of you!!!
I am a From Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am a police officer in my city of approximately 1,000,000 people, for 12 years. On behalf of my family, I want to express our heartfelt sorrow and prayers to the families of the victims in Newtown,CT.
America is not the only country that deals with gun violence. This past summer, I was one of dozens of officers that responded to a university shooting, involving a security guard that shot 3 co-workers in the head, tried to enter the US with hundreds of thousands of dollars. There have been multiple shootings with hand guns since and many more hand guns taken off the streets. Gun laws are just as a divisive issue here in Canada as they are in the US. Canada has a national gun registry which came into existence approximately 18 years ago. The promise was the registry would keep guns out of the hand of bad guys, obviously it has not worked. America you are not alone in the debate of gun ownership.
If there is to be a conversation of gun laws, both sides of the argument must be specific on what guns the laws are to address. You cannot use in the same sentence ban assault rifles and then use a general term as guns to back your argument. If you are for gun restriction, then be specific on what guns, if you are for less restriction be specific as to why.
Mental health issues are the same in my city as they are any where else. The lack of funding for mental health issues are enormous. The cost is addressing these issues are left to the municipalities rather then the provincial or federal governments. This is a burden municipalities can't bear. The laws of the "right to know" of a persons mental health must be changed when it comes to the safety of the public. If any discussion on gun laws is to be made, this is what I believe must be the core to any compromise.
As an outside observer, I found America is running on emotion right now. Your country needs to mourn the loss of life first, deal with the why's that emotions bring forward. Then deal with the why's when the emotions have settled and logic has returned.
This brings me to why I am writing on this blog. I watched Piers Morgan last night and found the arguments on both sides very emotional. Both had some valued points, however it was overshadowed by the insulting nature Morgan presented on live television. Insulting a person who has the opposite view of your own, shows me a lack of real listening skills and any attempt to understand what the other is trying to say. It appeared To me that Morgan did not have any rebuttal arguments for his guest so he then resorted to insults by calling a guest "stupid". This just made the attempt for compromise, that much more difficult in your country.
I wish America all of Gods wisdom in this debate and hope both sides will come together to seek a solution all of its citizens can agree on.
it doesnt matter where he is from! why does that matter? I do not see any of you guys making a difference he has ideas. IDEAS people. At least he is speaking his mind
I do believe all automatic and semi-automatic weapons should be banned from public use. I am fine with gun enthusiasts using these weapons at private shooting ranges, with the requirement that these banned weapons STAY ON the private property. This would allow those that like shooting these weapons to do so, without putting these weapons in places where people with mental issue or killing wishes cannot access them to commit any crimes. Thank you!
Really Jimbo???????? Are you serious? All automatic and semi-automatic weapons should be banned but gun enthusiasts can use them on private property? Do you know the difference in a semi automatic and a non semi automatic gun? My Car is private property I am a avid shooter and have my CCW I carry my pistol with me every where I go and not ONCE has the gun on my hip killed any one or caused a crime.
Here we go again. Piers over talking and interrupting all his guests, even the ones that agree with him. What a waste of time. Thanks God there's more than one program to choose from.
Piers you need to stop yelling at your guests and let them speak. The pro gun rights guest is not crazy. He has a well researched opinion. I've read his book and while I personally believe that there are too many guns in the USA, there is NOTHING wrong with his research. It is solid. I think in a perfect world, there would be no guns, but he is right that banning guns has not worked in the USA. Chicago is the perfect example. Guns are highly restricted there but 40-50 people die every month from gun crimes.
Here we go again!!!
If you don't agree with Mr. Morgan agenda he shouts at you and cuts you off.
why you are not discussing about temple shooting in wisconsin ??
11000 drunk driving deaths per year ....10000 gun deaths per year....please consider the role of alcohol use ...it is a mental health concern which has had a role in the tragedy of both gun violence and vehicular homicide
Can you just ask your panel about the definition of the 2nd Amendment? I don't even see the words "for the purpose of hunting" there (which I'd be fine with), let alone self-defense. And where do the words "well regulated Militia" fall into these stories? This doesn't seem well-regulated to me.
Thank you for pointing this out David.
Do you know what a Militia is? it also states the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
/mɨˈlɪʃə/), or irregular army, is commonly used today to refer to a military force composed of ordinary citizens to provide defense, emergency law enforcement, or paramilitary
The term militia (
service, in times of emergency without being paid a regular salary or committed to a fixed term of service. It is a polyseme with multiple distinct but related meanings. Legal and historical meanings of militia include:
Defense activity or service, to protect a community, its territory, property, and laws.
The entire able-bodied population of a community, town, county, or state, available to be called to arms. A subset of these who may be legally penalized for failing to respond to a call-up. A subset of these who actually respond to a call-up, regardless of legal obligation. A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government. An official reserve army, composed of citizen soldiers. Called by various names in different countries such as; the Army Reserve, National Guard, or state defense forces
One person does not make a militia.. The 2nd amendment states everyone has the right to bear arms within a WELL REGULATED MILITIA. I do believe that the term "well regulated" implies there would be rules and regulations as applies to those who bear arms. I believe that as Americans we collectively decide what those rules and regulations shall be. I also believe that if one wants to be in a militia there is none better than our own reserve military. But regardless of if it is a government sanctioned militia or private militia. Within that organization there needs to be lawful rules and regulations. There needs to be proper training in how and when to properly use it weapons. And ultimately it needs to be held accountable if not by the federal government but by the majority people of the United States. Last I knew in America majority rules and everyone has a voice and right to use it or the right to be silent.
I'd like to make two points: First, my shotgun is required by law to include a plug that restricts it to shooting 3 shells. This law is designed to give the birds I shoot at a more fair chance. Why are some people in our country totally OK with gun laws that protect wild animals but will not even consider a discussion of gun laws that protect people? Second, there is a huge rush on gun stores across the country right now. For trigger locks and locking cabinets that will make gun ownership safer? No. For more weapons. That is a sign of our sickness.
Thank you Piers for doing this show and for strongly advocating for serious gun control. ENOUGH is ENOUGH! No more lame excuses about gun control not being the solution. It IS part of the solution. And I hope those who oppose gun control and say mental health is the issue are then willing to step up and PAY for mental health treatment.
The right to have weapons is freedom and american heritage. I wish we had that freedom in Germany.
I was at Virginia Tech during the 2007 shootings I was an active part of the rescue effort and post event debrief. The issue is not stopping the sale of certain weapons, the issue is regulating who has them and personal ownership responsibility. There are millions of assault style weapons in homes across America, legislation stopping them in six months will provide no new solution to this epidemic. Better mental health screening and exchange of information through background checks is a better legislative solution. I personally own and carry guns on a daily basis. Piers Morgan isn't an American and does not belong in this national discussion. There is a solution to decrease events such as we saw last week in Sandy Hook, Piers isn't approaching this situation in a balanced manner.
How is one person or a comapny going to have access to ones personal mental issues problems? Will you like to have a data base exploiting your medical concerns? When you purchase a rifle or pistol you are asked if you had any mental issues and you either answer yes or no, if you answer yes you are not allowed to purchase the gun. Now if we have a data base out there for any one to have access to view the ACLU would be all over that.
You will never control all the crazy people in th USA, you will never get rid of all guns in th USA. However, you can control how you obtain a gun and what types of guns you can get. To own an assault rifle or a semi automatic of any kind gives a person too easy of a way to kill someone or several people in the blink of an eye. Someone could just flip, be having a bad day, undiagnosed depression, and shoot up everyone just like that, like nothing. Sure if someone wants to kill someone there are other ways but I guarantee I takes more thought process than picking up a gun. It takes more time giving a person more time to think about wha they're doing. Assault weapons belong with the experts of those in the military not the average joe. You want them for hunting, keep them locked up at the hunting club until you are going to use them. Is there really any harm in that? And please research what th 2nd amendment actually means before blurting it out.
I agree with most of what you say but you claim you can control when you purchase a gun...Well if you ask that I assume you have never purchased a gun before anyone that purchase a pistoil or rifle gets a back ground check. Also please explain to me what a assault weapon is. Assault weapon is a buzz word created by the Media. I am a avrage joe now and I spent 22 years in the Army and I know how to handle any type of weapon. Also the Seconed Admendment says A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed
Thank you Piers for your passion in bringing this issue forward. Keep up the good work!
Simply put – there is no reason for assault weapons to be in civilian hands. There is no reason for expanded clips to be available to civilians These items are for killing people, not hunting or protection. The second amendment certainly did not envision these items.
These items should definitely be outlawed..
No one is addressing the basic attraction of guns. It has nothing to do with 2nd amendment rights. It is far more basic and base than that. The primary attraction of the gun is the thrill!! I believe it is like any other potentially addictive activity. People who feel powerless feel powerful firing a gun. The more powerful the weapon the more powerful they feel.
We must use "COMMON SENSE" [to quote Thomas Paine] when it comes to gun control. COMMON SENSE says Assault Weapons must be removed from civilian hands, COMMON SENSE says ammunition must be controlled and regulated, COMMON SENSE says we must as a Nation take responsibility for the tragedy at Sandyhook and take action to seee that it never happens again!!
thinks it is not logical to jump on news irregularities as one pointed out here that much earlier news was secondhand hearsay. Also, those being held in custody for their safety is why police don't divulge names right away. Furthermore, removing the second amendment would never be considered by the majority. So only a mad man might think it could happen. What could be done is follow Canada's example. Which is : Hunting weapon license requires 1st passing safety course, then apply to Police for that gun license. If no record, their discretion, appellate. If approved you wait 3 mths for it. It must stay locked at home away from ammo and only legal to transport when with hunting license during that hunting season, between home and legal hunting area. If you shoot a burglar in home or self defense, if he has no gun, you risk manslaughter charges. As warning shots should back them off. Some attackers may be stupid, even if just a knife, we are expected to shoot low at legs. There are exceptions ofcourse, like a witness or close fast action not allowing warnings. Non hunting pistols are only allowed for antique collectors, registered gun club members, locked up at gun range, unless collectible with firing pin disabled. NO SEMI AUTOMATIC WEAPONS ALLOWED. U.S., in my current opinion, what you should consider is just as thorough screening and licensing of school protectors, whether staff or under cover. As well as mall and mass transit meeting points.
WHEN has an AR-15 been used for DEFENSE in the U.S.? These rifles are obviously used in offense in these massacres. Also, I am a 1st grade teacher and there is not one teacher I know who wants to bring a gun not our classroom. What a ridiculous idea!
Writing about things you are ignorant about does not help the discussion:
Yes, I will admit to not knowing much at ALL about guns; I am a teacher, not a trained police officer or military member. I teach 6 year-olds how to read -that is my focus and should continue to be. I also know that my colleagues are the kindest, most giving people I know on this planet; we spend countless hours teaching tolerance and compassion. Good luck trying to convince teachers that they should be responsible for pulling the trigger.
Too much of this discussion tonight was Piers and his anger. Too much interrupting speakers with points to make – particularly the officer at the Church. I gave him a chance because a town meeting seemed to be appropriate. Unfortunately the moderator ruined the whole purpose by behaving like such a pompous snit.
He's angry as are the rest of us and sick and tired of people defending assault weapons and making excuses for wht happened, suggestions that more guns are the answer is honestly laughable.
Please Please tell me what Americans are so afraid of? I heard someone say Adam's mother lived alone and she needed the guns for protection. All I have heard is what a quint place Newton is and a rural area. What was she so afraid of? I have been divorced for over 30 years and lived alone. The thought never crossed my mind to get a gun. I walk home in the dark and walk to the store, half the time my home is not locked, only at night. I know that someone is probably not going to shot me because I live in CANADA. Americans are always trying to bring their guns across the border and they are thrown in jail and fined. Americans are afraid because everyone has a gun!
Millie, this debate about American gun laws has nothing to do with you, a canadian, so please mind your own business
Why is it that every host of these shows brow beat the guests and speakers? I just watched Mr. Morgan hound this guy with "how many bullets does the ar-15 rifle fire while he was trying to answer a question posed by another guest. This happen on every talk show. Mr. Morgan just wants to make ratings this way. He is not interested in any answers that don't prove what he wants to prove. If was really fair in his journalism he would let the guest answer one question before he brow beats him with another. He is not better than Hannity. He's a jerk!!
Thx Pierce Morgan and your bosses and company owners for letting you express the extreme emotion the world in the know must feel about this gun issue. I salute you all. Here's a past of previous posted thoughts of mine : I hope you'll mention the ones relative here ;-) : " thinks it is not logical to jump on news irregularities as one pointed out here that much earlier news was secondhand hearsay. The barrier is getting to the gun range and shooting for the first time. After that, it's just a thing.
Tracy, there are ex-military that are teachers today that would not have a problem carrying concealed and protecting thoses around him!
I appreciate your passion but you are amazingly rude and demeaning to your guests who don't agree with you. You are welcome to leave and go back to your amazingly safe and gun free England. I don't have a gun and I am not thrilled about the crazy people in the world, but all the more reason the 2nd amendment right is important. It would probably be alot easier to deal with mentally ill people and start putting them away right from the get go!!!! Many of these mass shootings are done by people that many people knew were strange, showed signs of not being normal. There are already many in schools now all over the country. We see them, we know they are ticking time bombs and there is nothing anyone can do until the damage they cause happen. You are completely wrong to attack Americans exercising their rights in their own country. Noone has the complete answer so please Stop acting like you do!!!!
This so called "conversation" is a charade. Mr. Morgan clearly has his mind made up and is unreceptive and unwilling to consider any point of view other than his own. Farcical journalism and truly unhelpful to both gun owners and gun opponents who wish to find workable and effective ways to reduce violence in our country.
Perhaps rather than laying down teddy bears and flowers after the fact some brave soul could lay down a gun. The right to bear arms (an amendment no less that is indicative that laws can change) comes with the responsibility to bear the horror of killing your citizens. Perhaps if a gun buyer chooses a weapon and is immediately shot with it, then undergoes a "healing" period while a background check is enacted, the number of guns will decrease. A fearful nation is not a great nation.
Piers..I am Canadian. We have pretty stringent gun control here. That ebing said gun control isnt the whole issue. One of our provinces, Newfoundland, has oone of the highest per capita gun ownership rate in north america. For years it had the highest unemployment and poverty rate in our country. It also had the lowest violent crime rate and lowest gun crime rates. And highest charitable donation rate.
For the record...togive your arguments credibilty educate yourself. Your cuclic rate of fire for the AR15 is incorrect. the cyclic rate of fire depends n the speed with which someone pulls the trigger. It is a SEMI automatic...not an automatic. That being said, no one needs to own and automatic weapon...or a magzine (not clip) with anything over five rounds. The counterpoint to that is that I can kill as many people with four or five revolvers as I can with a a rifle with a 30 round magazine..but every bit help.
Background checks should be required. Having a criminal record should negate your ability to own a firearm. As well...better mental health and linking that mental health record to gun ownership should be a goal.
working to protect abused men, women and children we had Shelters, counselors, advocates and no guns! But they came to us wounded with bullets. or worse babies murdered because they got caught in the middle of a fight..in my career I've seen too much blood. if you are in the military carry it..if you are a hunter..carry it..protect it..lock it up..lock it up..lock it up!! we don't need these mass destructive weapons on the street..I will do everything. in my power to get them off the street..do the ban immediately ...RIP sweet angels and adults..we are so sad..
Piers. I'm just a guy from Canada but I can't believe what's happening right now with the sandy hook shooting. I have huge respect for you and what your doing to get the guns banned. I watched the memorial with the president on Sunday and was shocked when people were using twitter o tell the president to get off the tv because football was on! There's too many ignorant and selfish people in the U.S. The main thing here is to keep the pressure on. This CAN NOT be another two week news item until the next thing comes up! ALL THE PEOPLE TELLING PIERS TO GO HOME... TAKE MORE PRIDE IN YOUR HOME! HE CARES MORE THAN YOU!
Scott, you as a canadian, and Piers Morgan as a Englishman, have no right to speak about what our gun laws should be in America. Worry about your own countries and stay out of our business
The AR-15 rifle has a cyclic fire rate of 800 rounds per minute. However, this is only in fully automatic fire mode. When firing on semi-automatic, the shooter can expect to put 45-60 rounds downrange in a minute depending on how fast he/she can pull the trigger. AR-15's that are on the street are SEMI-automatic. That's maybe 1 per second!
PIER'S, QUIT TRYING TO PROVE YOUR POINTS WITH BAD DATA!
If banning guns worked, Washington, DC and New York City would be the safest cities in the country. Since 1976, it's been illegal in Washington, DC to own any handguns or to keep any type of gun in your home unlocked and fully assembled. However, Washington, DC is the "murder capital of the United States."
New York City has had severe gun control laws since 1911, yet it also ranks among the most dangerous places in the country. In both cities, violent criminals can easily obtain the most deadly weapons on the streets within minutes.
April 20, 1999: Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, walked into Columbine High School in Colorado and in a rampage of gunfire and homemade bombs killed 12 students and a teacher before killing themselves. IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GUN BAN INITIATED BY OUR V.P.!
I would put it at closer to 600 rounds per minute, at least on an M16A1 when fired full auto. I estimate that a 30 round magazine (the largest you would get in a factory made gun) could be emptied in 3 seconds at full auto. A2 models fire 3 bullet bursts per trigger pull. One pull per second means a 30 round magazine empties in 10 seconds. That actually is a long time. This change was made to *decrease* the number of shots fired, thus allowing the soldier to aim and shoot a 3 shot burst more accurately. Automatic models such as these are sold to police departments and military units and some exported to foreign police/military. They are used for defense as well as offense (their original purpose since invented in WW2 by the Germans – the Sturmgevere – meaning Storm/Assault Rifle). They are NOT available to the general public.
The average Joe or Josephine *can* license the ownership of such a gun if the automatic fireing mechanism (called a "lower") was manufactured prior to 1986, when sales of new automatic guns (including automatic firing mechanisms and sears) were banned. Usually you would work with a class 3 gun dealer who helps you file the paperwork.
After sending off the application with a local law enforcement officer's signature on it as well as yours, and paying the $200 filing fee, the license takes maybe 4-6 months to process. Yes they do check your background and felony convictions disqualify you. If you buy an unlicensed automatic gun, there is a good chance you might spend 10 years in prison as this is a felony.
The AR15 and AR5 models sold in stores are all semi-automatic. That means the 30 round magazine would empty in ... 30 seconds. At 1 pull per second the accuracy of the gun decreases. You can register an automatic firing mechanism by the same process as buying a full automatic gun, and pop it in the semi auto rifle to make it an automatic gun. There are also illegal kits available under the counter that allow you to convert a semi automatic to automatic fire (not bursts), but keep in mind 10 years in prison for posessing one.
I know a barber in my town who was a marine and he is a marksman who attends target shoots using a M16A2 like the one he used as a soldier. My children's aunt left them an M16A1 as part of her estate .
Others have bought and obtained licenses for automatic firing mechanisms so they can build replicas of the more modern tactical versions used by law enforcement and elite units of the military, using parts that are not under ban ("uppers and stocks and hand guards and grips. They build them because they look cool, or to mimic guns they formerly used in law enforcement or military, but I'd guess that 95% of them only fire it only at cans and bottles in large wooded lots on private property, just for fun with friends. Most all of the semi-auto police/military style guns sold are also fired for fun like this. Some do indeed hunt with semi auto AR-15s that have special mounts for telescopic sights.
Pierce confuses automatic guns and semi-automatic guns. I just heard him badger the Gun Owner's Association using incorrect terminology and not knowing jack about them. If authorities are going to get down on gun problems, they need to crack down on gun show sales (where almost all gang guns are purchased in bulk) and the illegal sales of the conversion kits. The problem is that some gun manufacturers don't care if the guns they sell get into the hands of criminals. A sale is a sale. The other problem are folks who choose to believe that "them thar librals are gunna take our freedom to resist tyranny away" (read "take our recreational guns and illegal conversions away").
BTW Any hunter that uses an assault rifle is not a hunter...
Isn't it interesting how "pro-choice" advocates like Piers Morgan are suddenly pretending to care about the lives of children.
If Piers wants to have an intelligent discussion on this or any other subject, he will need to stop talking long enough tor the other person to give his point of view. If I wanted to listen to the host interrupt and shout down the guests, I would listen to Sean Hannity.
Great program. We need more of them in our country. I bear arms but this pro-gun dialogue in my country is totally out of control. Mr. Morgan I, for one, am proud you came to our country and are willing to fight for what you (and I) know is true.
Thank you Mr. Morgan.
This is the first time I've watch the show since Larry King left. It will also be the last time. Mr. Morgan, you invite guest to the show and demonstate absolutely no manners who disagree with your opinion. You took this opportunity to voice your UK opinion and not let the opinions of US citizens be heard. Shame on you and CNN! Your opinion has no value in this country. I am an independent US citizen who doesn't own a gun, however, the right to own a firearm is a first right amendment. We fought your country over two hundred years ago for this right. Go back the your country and voice your opinion there.
Hey Julie it's about 6 year old kids getting ripped to pieces not what the U.S. has done for anyone else! It's about YOU! You people only care about yourself and deflect everything onto others! HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE PUTTING YOUR CHILD IN TNE GROUND A WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS!! COLD. SELFISH. PEOPLE.
Julie, you tell him sister!
Background checks hell what did a background check do for the children of Newtown. Ban the damn weapons! Make it a felony to possess semi and full automatic weapons. We put people in jail for smoking a joint yet we can't control the selling of illegal weapons over the internet and gun shows.
I have never seen a journalist allowed by his employer to be so rude and inconsiderate to guests. I used to like this guy but I can't believe how unprofessional he is acting in the wake of this tragedy. Calling guests liars when they answer a subjective question. Refusing to let them speak. Afraid to debate. Yes we know how you feel about the gun laws Piers, can your shut your fat mouth for a minute and let someone else voice their opinion? We have a first amendment in this country as well as a second. Look into it.
It is a sad thing to see someone misuse their position...turning their show into a bully pulpit to berate those that don't say the same things you do, and march lock-step down the streets pushing aside any who stand in your way.
I used to see you as a compassionate and thoughtful person...until now.
Your hot button has been pushed and you are a raging animal. No manners, though you accuse those who don't believe as you do of being ill-tempered. You ask a series of questions not even attempting to listen to the responses. Because they don't answer as you want them to, you bully them by asking too many questions and not letting them answer any of them.
You want to rant, go ahead, but don't pretend to be looking for truth until you can calm yourself down and act like a civilized person who follows the rules of etiquette...(and you call yourself British)
Ask a question, then shut thy mouth and LISTEN...you might actually learn something...I assume you are not too old to do that, right?
I believe you, AND all Americans have the right to their own opinion. I don't begrudge you that. Allow others the same thing, or go to Afghanistan and become a mullah and make everyone else follow your way to Allah.
I will still watch you because when you are Dr Jekyll, you have interesting things to discuss and you are able to get people to open up.
When Mr Hyde rages forth you are an embarrassment to your profession and your family name.
Oh, and Merry Christmas,
and may your ratings rise with calmness and plummet with rage.
The gun legislation is a very sensitive issue and I am not sure what the solution is. I really don't believe restricting guns will eliminate the violence in our country. If the shooter in Newtown had not been unable to obtain firearms, he may have loaded his vehicle with fertilizer and blown up the entire school. If he had not had the rifle he could killed fired almost as fast with one of the pistols in his possesion. My fear is that in the emotion of the moment our legislators will come up with a 2000 page legislation which they will not read or know how far reaching it is.
Why are we so upset about the availability of fire arms and yet there is no outcry for stricter legulation of alcohol. What purpose does it serve. According to the Centers of Disease Control there are 30 deaths per day in accidents involving alcohol (almost 11,000 per year). Those who drink resposibly do not cause deaths. Why should they be deprived of a social drink because some others uses it irresponsbly. Same with firearms.
You are right Mike. His pistols were semi automatic just like the rifle. The pistols would shoot just as fast and can carry almost as many rounds. My Ruger pistol carries 16 in the clip and 1 in the chamber. Banning guns does not work. It did not work in England where gun crimes increased in this past year by 39%. That is why I don't understand why Piers Morgan is preaching to Americans when his country tried it and it does not work!
Mike, repeating a mistake (I won't use the word lie) doesn't make it fact. Get it right, will you? You're embarrassing!
Mike – where are you getting your data? Do you see the difference? Duh!
I have decided to no longer watch Morgan's show. I'm doing this not because I disagree with him...I actually agree with what he is trying to say; however, what he fails to understand is that this is a complex issue that warrants extensive discussion from BOTH sides of the issue. Perhaps he fails to appreciate the complexity of the issue (and its history) because he is new to this country.
Being an objective person, when I tune into a show like this, I want to hear ALL aspects of the issue discussed in a civil manner. I don’t want to hear some self-appointed evangelist constantly express their side of the issue. Moreover, I don’t want this host to cut their “guests” off, talk over them, and treat them in a condescending manner. Watching Morgan the past few nights, I’m now convinced that he just wants to preach his opinion rather than actually discuss the issue. The result of this approach is that he loses everyone except those who already agree with him. This is really less about passion on his part and more about leveraging this tragic incident to cater to those who typically watch his show.
so are all the criminals gonna give up there unregistered guns and extended clips
If the logic is, it's useless to regulate guns because criminals will still break the law, then why have traffic laws? Why have any laws?
Kick ass Piers ! Keep up the good fight.
"Kick ass"? Isn't that an aggressive act? I'm sorry but you aren't allowed to kick ass in the new America. In fact, I think you can go to jail for saying "kick ass" in the new America
Folks, let me ask a rhetorical question: What if every kid in that classroom had a gun and knew how to use it? Don't you think the shooter would have been the only one dead with multiple gunshot wounds? You laugh and mock my question! These are 6 and 7 year-olds, yet you forget in Pioneer Days, very young kids in the Family knew where the gun was and how to use it. Now lets go to Virginia Tech. Now tell me how many students would have been killed if every one in class would have had a gun? Do I make my point? Sadly, the time has come to arm the Teachers and Staff!!! THE GUN IS NOT AT FAULT!!! The Fault is in the Mind of the Holder, totally lacking and devoid of Personal Self Discipline to direct his Behavior! See that Piers Morgan sees this!
Are you for real? 1st graders would have trouble even holding a handgun (they are heavy). What would occur would be kids in front of the kid with a gun will have a holes in the back of their heads.
It's a**holes like you who make sales of guns to criminals and idiots buying illegal kits and unregistered lowers at gun shows possible, and guaranteeing that someone in your family will die from an accidental shooting..
Stand up and take a bow Piers. You just might be responsible for more AR-15 sales than anyone.
God-less President = God-less society = God-less acts = God-less country. The answer is to teach the word of Jesus Christ in every public school. Until we elect a Christian leader, there is no hope for our country.
Teaching Christian beliefs in school would have done nothing to prevent or avoid this situation or any of the others that have occurred recently. These people are mentally ill and, as such, would have done what they did even if they prayed five times a day. If we are ever going to solve this issue, we must focus on the real issues and not use these situations to promote a religious or political agenda.
I will keep you in my prayers. God Bless.
And what happen to the old liberal saying 'You can't legislate morality'?
Killing millions of babies in the womb is perfectly legitimate, but we want to take your guns so you can't killing each other. Is that not hypocritical?
Around 90 people a day are killed by motor vehicles, so let's ban cars! Does the car kill people?
QUIT TRYING TO TAKE DOWN THE TREE BY TRIMMING OFF A BRANCH! Look for the root of the problem. The root is more about the person and not the instruments that they use.
Hey Mark. Think about it my friend. If the guns are not there the mental people cannot kill there mom and a bunch of little kids! This is not like car accidents you MORON.
Scott, the problem is, when guns are banned, only criminals will have them. England banned guns and in this past year, gun crimes have increased by 39% in England. We need to make sure mentally ill people are in hospitals where they cannot do this type thing.
Scott, It's naive people like you that are going to allow even more killings! Once again it's not the weapon that we should be considering here, it's the person. In Oklahoma, it was a bomb made with fertilizer, or it's a knife, or it's some other legal gun, or a baseball bat. In many cases the person is on some type prescription drugs,How about investigating the drug industry. (Read my last post.)
Guns are NOT the problem. So quit pulling a 'Piers Morgan' and insulting someone with name calling before you gather all of the facts!
The age old gun debate. I am not a gun owner. I also do not believe that all guns should be banned. Rather than speaking about gun control. We to talk about RESPONSIBLE gun control. I believe that ALMOST every American has the right to RESPONSIBLY own guns. I don't see however the need for people to own assault weapons. A true hunter does not use an assault weapon to hunt. There are not many deer, rabbits, ducks or even bears out there attacking people with assault weapons.
What need does a hunter need for a 30 round magazine. I never heard of a hunter having to face down a hoard of marauding wild animals. The only time a person needs an assault weapon is to assault people. The only time a person needs an assault weapon for protection is to protect themselves from others who have assault weapons. Take away the assault weapons and you don't need to protect yourself with one if no one else has one.
The problem with the more guns theory is that you make it too easy for people to kill each other. We no longer live in the days of the wild west. Look at the history. Weapons laws came about because too many people who had no business owning a gun had them. It became to easy to kill someone just because you didn't like them.
There needs to be background checks for all gun sales. If a gun owner chooses to sell a weapon it needs to be done through a licensed gun dealer who will run a background check before completing the sale. Also gun owners need to be held accountable if their weapon is used in a crime. It is the responsibility of the gun owner to make sure his or her weapon is inaccessible to others. A gun owner is just as guilty if their weapon is used in a crime as the criminal using it.
IF YOU DON'T WANT THAT RESPONSIBILTY, THEN DON'T BUY THE WEAPON!!!
It is not an argument of gun control isn't an argument of right or wrong it is an argument of common sense.
Yes, Piers should be more courteous; name calling is not helpful, this is a serious issue. CNN needs to get Piers to calm down so we can have a real debate. That said, the pro-gun people offer no substantive credible studies to back up their claims. While there are studies like this one from Harvard School of Public Health that finds,
"This article summarizes the scientific literature on the health risks and benefits of having a gun in the home for the gun owner and his/her family. For most contemporary Americans, scientific studies indicate that the health risk of a gun in the home is greater than the benefit. The evidence is overwhelming for the fact that a gun in the home is a risk factor for completed suicide and that gun accidents are most likely to occur in homes with guns. There is compelling evidence that a gun in the home is a risk factor for intimidation and for killing women in their homes. On the benefit side, there are fewer studies, and there is no credible evidence of a deterrent effect of firearms or that a gun in the home reduces the likelihood or severity of injury during an altercation or break-in. Thus, groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics urge parents not to have guns in the home.”
Here's the link, http://ajl.sagepub.com/content/5/6/502.abstract
David here is some verifiable evidence for being armed:
"Kennesaw (GA) once again was in the news on May 1, 1982, when the city unanimously passed a law requiring "every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunition." After passage of the law, the burglary rate in Kennesaw declined and even today, the City has the lowest crime rate in Cobb County." http://www.kennesaw-ga.gov/visitors/about-us
And what about gun accidents? According to nationally syndicated columnist Samuel Frances, your chance of dying from the accidental discharge of a firearm is 1 in 200,000. You are 29 times more likely to die in an automobile accident.
A "pro-choice" advocate like Piers Morgan is suddenly pretending to care about the lives of children ?
While I can understand your passion you will never make an impression on someone who has a different view by being disrepectful. Ironically you refused to answer questions posed to you about how a ban on assault weapons would have stopped the massacre and how is one to defend themself with a bolt action low caliber rifle. Your behaviour is unlikely to make people who want to own guns have a meaningful discussion on gun control. Anger management perhaps?
I find it somewhat ironic that in a program about gun violence, we have a host and guests who are trying to out-shout each other. That too, is part of our American culture of violence. The tragedy in Newtown, I believe, had several contributing factors. As a result, I am examining my own life to identify ways I am passively supporting this cultural violence. I am going to change the types of movies, books, and television shows I consume. I am going to find an organization to support that works with at-risk children. In turn, I would ask TV personalities & their producers to consider whether the content of their shows contributes to the problem of elevating the culture of violence and questionable behavior or mental stability. (e.g., Robert Blake). For the record, I am not a gun owner. But sometimes what I hear via the news makes me feel like the world is such a crazy place, maybe I should get one.
First my condolences to the people affected by the horrific carnage, this will change the USA forever
As a hunter of almost forty years ,Mr Morgan is correct there is no need to have high capacity clips available for any rife used in big game hunting .
Minimin If the AR15 was equipped with a five shot clip it would be the much the same as any gas operated semi auto rife on the market. never mind its looks .
I have used semi auto rifles in the years before I realized that they waste ammunition. the use of a semi auto during hunting is personal decision that does not make any sense. One well aimed shot does the job and is safer than spraying your quarry. Charge a big tax on on all ammunition. and related products
BAN THE ASSAULT RIFE , THE LARGE CAPACITY CLIPS FOR ALL GUNS GO MORGAN GO !!! KEEP UP THE DEBATE .
THIS IS WHAT THE COUNTRY NEEDS , NOT MORE GUNS
A quote from the Kennesaw, GA official website:
"Kennesaw once again was in the news on May 1, 1982, when the city unanimously passed a law requiring "every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunition." After passage of the law, the burglary rate in Kennesaw declined and even today, the City has the lowest crime rate in Cobb County."
PIERS...ONE COULD SAY YOU ARE STUPID FOR BELIEVING THAT SOME NUT JOBS CAN'T GET THEIR HANDS ON GUNS (EVEN IF THEY BECOME ILLEGAL). DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL BUT THIS COUNTY IS FLOODED WITH THEM AND ANYONE CAN BUY THEM. SO IF SOMEONE GOES A STEP FURTHER IN THINKING WE SHOULD ARM THE TEACHERS OR PUT POLICE IN SCHOOLS THAT SOUNDS MORE INTELLIGENT AND REALISTIC TO ME FOR A SOLUTION. YOU ARE LIVING IN A FANTASY LAND IF YOU THINK THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN IF GUN LAWS WERE MORE STRICT. YOU ARE A RUDE GUY!
I think there are reasonable controls, like background checks and proper storage and maybe limiting how many rounds a weapon can fire for new weapons. However, the man who Piers was yelling at was offering arguments and his book is very well researched and while I think he is probably wrong on the need for some of these weapons, he isn't wrong about the effectiveness of gun control. It doesn't reduce gun crime where it is introduced. Chicago has some of the toughest laws in the nation and it also has 40-50 gun murders a month, most of them are teens or 20 somethings. You also can't compare the USA with Canada or Europe. They have dramatically different demographics. The conditions in Canada's aboriginal communities are pretty horrible too in terms of violence but it is 2 percent of the population. Comparable conditions exist in the USA's black population, but it is 11% of the population ( 50% of gun murder victims are black though)
Liberal, Independent, or Republican you can't tell me you enjoy listening to Piers Morgan on CNN.. Secondly it would be a bit interesting to see how the British public would handle an American news reporter trashing their style of life.. Just saying !!!
I get it that people people don't want guns that can fire many rounds but even a revolver which I think has six bullets has six bullets too many. One bullet and one life is too many. So this idea about banning certain guns is a joke! lets focus more on getting people the help they need and stop living in this culture where the criminals or dangerous people have more rights than the victims! Arming the schools or a police presence is more realistic than thinking guns are gonna go away. That old expression fight fire with fire is making more sense to me now more than ever.
Piers wins the gun salesman award of the year. He just convinced me to go out tomorrow get a couple assault rifles myself while I can. Thanks for the inspiration Piers.
I don't know if you read any of these comments but let me just put it simply. YOU are a pompous a _ _. How dare you talk to a guest as if he were below you? You talked to Mr. Pratt as if he were one of your royal subjects and were beneath you.
You said, "UNBELIEVABLY STUPID, IDIOTS LIKE YOU, UTTER NONSENSE AND DON'T GIVE A DAMN" to Mr. Pratt who was simply trying to get to speak in a fair and unruffled manner about how many Americans feel about guns and to address the recommended controls that people are now thinking are necessary with unrefuted and legitimate reasons not to employ them.
You were a jerk! Let the gun lobby speak for themselves and don't be such a know it all. You and your morals and laws may be right for where you come from but as it stands right now and for the last 200+ years we haven't really needed any guidance from the puny little island with any pursed lip service. As you are well aware, If it wasn't for the many Americans who knew how to shoot, you would be speaking German right now.
WHAT NERVE! Now if you want give some really good advice, have California and the rest of the states that closed all their mental hospitals re-open them and start dealing with people that are obviously ill.
Mr. Pratt should receive an apology from you. You are rude and a weak person since you obviously can't handle the truth and when you can't get your little point across, you have your little tantrums. Mr. Pratt handled you like the little man with a big mouth that you appear to be.
My brother fought for 2 years to prove that he was mentally unstable from ptsd so that he could be deemed permanently disabled. Once he got his back pay from the social security disability the first thing he did with his money was to get the gun he'd always wanted. I was shocked when i heard he was able to do this. My brother is indeed mentally unstable, although not necessarily a violent person. BUT, he should never have been allowed to buy that gun. There is something so wrong with a system that allows you to prove you are mentally unstable and then does nothing to stop you from buying any kind of gun you want. What if he was a killer? The government would have paid for the gun that could potentially be used to killed innocent people. This is not a brain twister. It is clear that this "right to bear arms" has been taken too far. Why not have an individual's right to bear nuclear weapons because other people in other countries may have them? Absurd! FYI...my brother no longer has that gun.
Carolyn, did you go to your local sherrif's office and let him know this? If you did not, and your brother killed someone with that weapon, you would be just as resposible for those deaths as he is! Tell your sherrif today.
I share your views Piers! Way to stand your ground and get the facts out, it's the only way to proceed with positive change!
This is truly a horrific and devastating act of violence and one that I have not stopped thinking about since the day it happened. I am a father of two daughters ages 8 and 10 and can't imagine what these families and community are going through. In my opinion it will take more than just tightened gun laws to decrease or eliminate these horrific acts of violence, but gun laws is where it has to start. The culture and acceptance of guns of all kinds in the United States as we know it must change.
Secondly, we must look at how we diagnose, treat and deal with mental illness. We must create awareness for mental illness for everybody. People living with mental illness process thoughts and rationalize every day life situations in a very different way than the average person. There are always signs or indicators that can be identified long before these horrible acts of violence are committed. We have to do a better job at identifying these indictors and assess the level of mental illness to reduce the potential risk by possibly isolating them from obtaining dangerous weapons for example. Leaving weapons of any kind within reach of a person with a mental illness is just irresponsible.
The argument that those that favor an armed US are deeply flawed. They are saying that if everyone in America was armed, gun crimes would disappear. They are also in favor of arming teachers, which would mean that you could not be a teacher unless you agree to carry a gun into the classroom. It would also mean the children under gun carrying age (whatever that would be) would have to be accompanied by an armed adult. Is that what American's want?
Barry and Eric from Canada, do either of you have the right to tell Americans what we should do? The answer is no, so please keep your opinions to yourself!
Dear Mr. Morgan,
Understanding a problem is at best a difficult endeavor. One tends to look to others for answers or to observe their response and react to that.I believe you have done the later. Notwithstanding the lack of credibility a British born 6 year resident holds in my eyes, considering the history of the Brits and the IRA, the invasion of the Falkan islands. and the promotion of opium addiction in China that brought about the "Opium Wars", and of course we could discuss India,Australia and many more that non-violent Brits advocated disarming those that need the protection to deal with the repercussion of actions by people much like yourself.
The pressures on the average American, be they economic, medical, racial or logistical have increased at a rate that has overwhelmed a medical care system and created laws to imprison people for smoking marijuana.Mental patients were released from government facilities in the 80's and for most of them the care stopped then and there. The years that follow left mental illness in the hand of the private sector. Wealthy mentally ill received care, some to a good end and some not so good, but the poor received no care or were relegated to counseling from less than qualified enterprising individuals capitalizing on the illness rather than initiating the cure.
What you call an assault weapon is what I would , obviously, need if I were to encounter any such threat regardless of the direction it is coming from or the hand that holds it.The weapons attached to the drones and attack helicopter that I know exist kinda make a little pea shooter like the AR-15,or a hand gun with limited range look inadequate rather than too much.
CNN, What are you thinking??? How about you give Piers job to a American who really needs a job and help the USA , and send Piers back to his "safe" country that he keeps compairing our country to. Piers is Rude, disrespectful, you allow him to tell his guest that they are Idiots. Get rid of this guy and lets give someone from our country the job. CNN, bad choice, He is out of control, I'm turning my chanel. I'm very upset.
I took a man from England to get people talking about serious gun control and this "gun culture" in America. Thank you Piers Morgan. Twenty children were shot down in cold blood, Imagine that picture. I cannot believe the lack of empathy that people have not only for this tragedy, however the ones that occur daily. I am from Texas by the way, and no I do not own a gun. My Mom thinks what you are doing is great. She will be seventy this year. Her name is Bonnie. Thank You again for bringing this issue to the surface .
Oh give me a break! Piers Morgan hasn't spawned this debate anymore than I have. This debate is taking place all over the country right now by people who couldn't tell you who Piers Morgan is if their life depended on it. If any one person started the debate, it was the President, not some talk show host seeking a bump in ratings. Of course, I have no doubt that if gun control legislation is passed, Morgan will be the first to claim it was he who changed America...what a joke!
Ill make deal with you YOU AND I MEAN YOU SHOOT AN AR15 AT A GUN RANGE ON TV LIVE AND IF YOU ARE ABLE TO SHOOT 6 ROUNDS A SECOND I WILL GIVE YOU MY AR YOU SAY 6 SHOTS IN A SECOND PROVE IT I WILL GIVE YOU MINE YOU HAVE MY EMAIL BACK UP ALL THAT MOUTH YOU HAVE PROVE WHAT YOU SAY
There is a pattern in these kinds of tragedies- the good guys are almost always unarmed and the bad guys are armed to the teeth!
Oh yeah If you can not do it then you go back to England since you dont seem to like America to much anyways
Pie Morgan, you are by far the most ignorant person I have ever seen on TV, if I actually watched your show. Laws do not work when it comes to criminals. If laws worked so well why do we have such a terrible drug problem here in America? Look at Mexico, they have a very strict gun law, yet the cartel kill hundreds of people a day. It's interesting you make no mention of Eric Holder and Fast and Furious. Why are you not calling for him to be brought to justice for the guns that he allowed to be sold to criminals and thugs? Assault rifles are a tool used to keep our Government under control and to protect our families. Unless you can remove all guns from the earth you are not going to do any good. Box cutters killed over 6000 people in less than a day but we don't ban box cutters. Liberals kill thousands of kids each day but you don't see them banning abortions. Drunk Drivers kill people all the time but we don't ban cars. Why are we banning or putting laws on things that have no brain and not putting the laws on those who brainlessly use these items to do harm to others? You are by far a pathetic man who can't seem to do anything but insult others who do not agree with your idiology. CNN drop this guy if you want some of your viewers back.
I have read several posts that claim we need automatic weapons to defend ourselves from our own government in the event we deem we need to over throw it. 200 years ago, 150 years ago that may have been the case. Today automatic weapons are not going to stop an M1A1 Abrams tank, Raptor stealth fighter or a Tomahawk missile fired from a destroyer 200 miles at sea. The power we have as Americans is in our voice. The president can't declare was on us. He is not an absolute ruler. Supposedly majority rules here. If enough people can behind a cause it becomes the rule of the land. Those who don't like that have the freedom to leave and find somewhere else to live.
Also I have read about gun control in other countries. Tough laws in Mexico yet drug cartels kill thousands.....you honestly cannot compare an average American who can barely make ends meet nowadays to cartels with money dripping out their ears. Of course if you have enough money you can buy anything. That doesn't make it right though.
As I've said before. I'm not looking to disarm Americans. I just want to make sure that not just anyone can get their hands on a weapon that is made for maximum kill. Just look at law enforcement. I don't why we as Americans are so bent on killing each other. There are plenty of others out there in the world who are out to get us. And don't start on that they are the reason we need automatic weapons. They are not coming at us with guns. By the time you know they are near you, your body has been shredded by the bomb in his backpack, he's just as dead as you.
Mr. Muammar Gaddafy for instance would strongly disagree with your theory about modern governments being untouchable because of aircrafts and tanks.
Again people bring other countries with completely different ideologies into the debate. You can't compare what their military capability was then to our military capability is today anymore than you can compare our own military capability when the 2nd amendment was written to what it is now. And unless you are planning a military overthrow of our government you do not need military type assault weapons.
MR. Morgan and rest of the people here let me introduce myself. I am SPC Danny Britton and i am in the US army out of FT Carson, CO. I am currently watching your gun debate show and i heard you ask the question to a member of your audience as to how many round an AR-15 can fire per min. You said you had to talk to many experts and you answer was 1-4 rounds per second. Sir, the AR-15 is almost the same design as my government issued M-4 and the only time i have ever fired that many round out of my AR is when i had it on three round burst setting (which is illegal to sell on the civilian market) and i have been doing this job for 6 1/2 years of my life.
I am also from the state of Alabama so as to your question about what recreational purpose they serve. The AR-15 can fire a 5.56mm or 7.62mm round which are both authorized for hunting. Yes i agree that a 30-30 win or 30-06 are both very capable round for hunting however most AR have grown popular because a Winchester 94 can only be used hunting while and AR-15 can be dual purpose packing the fire power for hunting yet offering the maneuverability that a that a hand gun offers for protection in the home with very effective stopping power.
Also i was very amazed at how biased you were in your show to all those you talked to that shared your belief you were very respectful and nice. However when someone argued with your belief you were very hateful and interrupted them many times and i am very happy that i wasn't in your audience because you would not have ran your mouth at me like that.
Sir, thank you for your service to our country.
If Mr Morgan really wants to get to the truth he would invite experts on the show like yourself to get the facts.
Mr Morgan is not interested in the truth, he is just a bias, self-promoting political hack for the gun control movement. I am all for doing what is reasonable for the curbing of gun violence in this country, but banning semi-automatic rifles that look like military weapons is just a feel good approach to a more complex issue.
I would suggest that Mr Morgan, Ms Feinstein, and Mr Schumer reinstate the 1993 assault ban and get it over with then they can back to looking at other feel good legislation. The sad thing about the ban is the rifle used last Friday would not be banned under that law so it would solve nothing. These politicians along with Mr Morgan just hate guns and use this tragedy as a way to promote their moral superiority over the "less informed" voters.
If American wants to minimize this type of shooting, which is quite rare, in the future is to put armed security professionals in every school and public areas, hire the professionals coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan if you are worried about "the cowboy mentality", take down those silly signs that state "Guns are banned on these premises" and put up signs that state "These premises are patrolled by armed security", and begin taking a serious look at legalizing marijuana use in the country. That is were most of the gun violence occurs in this country, not in a elementary schools.
Keep up the good work pierce! Your coverage on banning military weapons for the public is great but please please have a more detailed discussion soon about other potential laws (I have watched every night and yes these have been brought up but not in depth)1: purchasing no ammunition for these guns and limited ammunition for anything else 2: waiting times, referrals, and comprehensive background checks for not only the individual but also live-in family members as well as non-live in parents (disorders can be inherited and crime is a cycle) 3:: the second ammendment was made when people owned gaskets not revolvers 4: urging parents to obey the M rating on violent video games. Kids playing these games are being desensitized and will grow up accepting a gun culture.
Mr. Morgan a couple of questions for you:
* Why do you claim England is safer than the US while the data shows that England, with 1/5 of the US population, has 1/2 the TOTAL VIOLENT CRIME of the US?
* Why British police, the bobbies, are now patrolling English streets armed with sub-machine guns and pistols while for decades they were doing the same job without any weapons?
Piers Although I'm a Canadian the gun problem in the US concerns both my wife and I We travel the US as Snow birds and many times we have encountered people packing side arms . this is disturbing, you have no idea what is going on in the minds of a person , what it would take to set them off , going through the paths of your own life, you remember the wrongs that some one has caused you and at that moment if you were armed you may have did grievous harm ,later you realize how insignificant it really was . I have had long guns in my house for 65 years, had a two vehicles stolen from a rural property , one vehicle was stolen by a 12 year old , the second vehicle I chased to observe the criminal , I was not armed and am very happy that I was not . This debate that you started is a great starting point for the american people to look in the mirror and open there eyes to the carnage these arms do Please do not stop the debate, every baby step towards a gun control system will be appreciated by further generations hoss

You stated, you been in the US for six or seven years. It is time for you to go back to to England.
CNN should be embarrassed to have you on the news channel
You are the wrong person to lead a civil discussion about gun violence in the US. You bring folks on your show with a different view than yours and then you talk over them, bully them, or belittle them. That may work in England, but it is turn off in the US and nothing gets accomplished. Please do not forget, the US had a revolution war over tyrants like you and you represent country's history very well.
CNN is a great news organization. Anderson, Wolf, and Erin are very good at what they do. You are a disgrace and just a bully.
Please CNN show this guy the door.
On behalf of all us British folk living here in the US, I apologize for Piers. He's an embarrassment to us. Totally agree – he's rude and acts like a child throwing a tantrum.
Apology accepted mate! The mere fact that you acknowledge this fool as an embarrassment, shows you have a brain and are not fooled, like most Americans are fooled. CNN is a joke, as is most t.v. media. People need to learn their history: Most socialist countries disarmed their citizens, right before total tyranny against their people began; Hitler, Mussolinni, Mao Tse-Tung, Joseph Stalin, etc... all banned guns in their country..... RIGHT BEFORE THEY TOOK TOTAL CONTROL OF THEIR PEOPLE.
RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS IIS THERE TO PROTECT THE CITIZENS AGAINST GOVERNMENTS TURNING TYRANNICAL AGAINST THEIR PEOPLE!
Josef Stalin, quotes about Disarmament:
If the opposition (citizen) disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves
“The measures adopted to restore public order are: First of all, the elimination of the so-called subversive elements. … They were elements of disorder and subversion. On the morrow of each conflict I gave the categorical order to confiscate the largest possible number of weapons of every sort and kind. This confiscation, which continues with the utmost energy, has given satisfactory results.”
– Benito Mussolini, address to the Italian Senate, 1931
“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
– Mao Tze Tung, Nov 6 1938
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let’s not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country.”
– Adolf Hitler, dinner talk on April 11, 1942
This interview is a disgrace to your career and to the reputable organization of CNN. Please reconsider your career and either resign from your current interviewing niche or take time off to reevaluate your life values. No person deserves to be treated so horridly in a legitimate interview. You should be quite ashamed of your behavior and take some time to reconsider your approach. I recommend leaving the broadcasting world all together. You disgraced an organization, three countries and yourself. Please leave.
Have a nice life..
When looking for a true solution to a problem it is vastly important to identify the common denominator within all of the cases. We were first taught this as elementary school students in math class. Cancer and other disease researchers use this technique while searching for a cure. Detective's look for a common motive when trying to solve multiple killings. Mere logic should tell us that we should apply this very same technique when attempting to find an answer for the mass murders committed in our country. Limiting your sampling only leads to incorrect and possibly dangerous solutions.Do your own research and you will discover that guns are not the common denominator.
My family deserves the same protection as any other family. Does the the secret service carry semi-automatic weapons to protect the Obama family ?
I have seen so much media on the gun control topic I decided to look at things the way they do. Here is what I get from it.
ACCORDING TO THE LIBERALS AND MAIN STREAM MEDIA WE MUST NOT NEED PRISONS
IF WE MAKE SOMETHING ILLEGAL THEN NO ONE WILL DO IT. IF WE MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO POSSESS OR USE DRUGS NO ONE WILL POSSESS OR USE THEM SO IF MAKING IT A LAW STOPS ANY ONE FROM DOING IT, THEN NO ONE WILL BREAK THE LAW. NO NEED FOR PRISONS.
That sound very stupid to me, but that must be how many people think because that is how they keep coming across to me. during prohibition alcohol was illegal it was still made sold and consumed. drugs are illegal yet it is a billion dollar industry. drinking and driving is illegal but it still kills many times more people than guns do. If you see a gun (any kind assault rifle or single shot pistol), a hammer, screw diver, and a pillow laying on a table, which would you say is more dangerous as it is. The common sense answer is neither. Until someone picks it up they are all the same. When it is picked up then it is on the person that picks it up as to how it is used (they can all be used to kill someone or be used for something safe). It is time to stop blaming the inanimate objects and blame the person using it. We also need to look at Societies influence on these people that comit these awful crimes.
A good journalist would know the subject to be discussed. Unfortunately, Piers (and others making comments here) is not well versed in assault weapons or ammunition. Spreading mis-information does not help. This bantering back and forth about what is an assault weapon distracts from the real issue of mental health problems. Lets try to solve this horrible issue so it does not happen again and leave the inanimate objects out of the discussion. Its a lot easier to pass legislation regarding a bullet than to tackle the much more complex mental health issues.
It took the police 20 minutes to respond. In that time, this nut could have killed 50 people with a butter knife. It is not the weapon, it is the defense that is the problem.
I have lost a lot of respect for Piers Morgan in the last few days. He has a personal agenda to get guns banned and he has been extremely disrespectful to anyone who doesn't agree with him 100%. I don't know how I feel about a ban yet, so I want to dialogue about these horrific events and how we can stop them from happening, but Piers refuses to hear, or let us hear, any opinion contrary to his own. He was so rude and disrespectful to his guests and acted so immaturely when he interrupted and talked over them. He claims he "respects all opinions," but he clearly does not – he only respects those who agree with him. CNN should set a higher standard than this kind of "reporting.". His bias and agenda is getting in the way of a legitimate and worthwhile conversation.
Amen Jennifer!! He never lets anyone speak that doesn't agree with him. I mean..how else is he supposed to push his agenda if people keep countering his ignorant and biased comments with facts that actually makes sense. It definitely won't make him look good if he allows them to talk. He purposely brought John Lott for an interview about his book "More guns less crime" so he could bash him and not let him finish any of his comments. He let the "other anti-gun guy" finish all his points. Search youtube for john lott on piers morgan. I wished john lott came more prepared this time for that..but I guess thats why Piers brought him back for this discussion..so he could cut him off and bash him to make the "pro-gun" guy look bad. I love the meda
By the way...do a fact check on all of Piers points...he's an anti gun guy that knows absolutely nothing about them and doesn't do any research to back up any of his points. Sad that most of the "left-wing" media is like that.
I agree with Piers because you are totally right!

No one is talking about disarming Americans. Just want to keep the most deadly of these weapons out of the hands of people who do not have the proper training , education and mental stability to use them.
HOW do you determine the most deadly weapon one that some crazy person decides to use
Shot guns can do alot of damage also with buck shot or slugs so get rid of those to
Listen you can not FIX STUPID If the government does decide to tell us what gun we can or can not have Do you really think that a criminal that has murder on his mind is going to care about which gun is legal to use or not
Do you really think that all the guns that may be on a NO NO list are going to just disapear and be gone NO If someone wants to commit say murder they will find guns to use banned or not
All DRUGS are illegal but people still get them and die from them every day
People should stop depending on BIG government and use there own good judgement
THERE ARE CRAZY PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD No matter what thats how it is....
I never said remove all weapons even a pillow is deadly in the wrong hands. The most deadly would be the the ones for the highest capacity to kill. An automatic weapon with a 30 round clip is more deadly than the same gun with a 5 round clip. And again I'm not talking disarmament, if a person is qualified and properly trained in the use of their weapon (and I don't mean a 5 day safety course), I mean military or law enforcement training. Then ownership of their weapons is fine. I may be wrong but I believe that someone who is trained and educated in how dangerous their weapon is that they would do their best to keep their weapon out of the wrong hands by disabling and locking it up when not in use. I want those weapons out of the hands of the untrained and uneducated in the proper use of those weapons. How can any sane person argue against that.
Please dont take this wrong BUT I did not say anything about all weapons I was refering to weapons GUNS that they may ban And put on a NO NO list a name I just made up What I am saying is that BANNING them will not make them disapear or keep them out of criminals hands
Another thing PLEASE they are SEMI-AUTOMATIC not FULL AUTO Also it is called a MAGAZINE not a CLIP
Alot of people Spend alot of time at gun ranges and enjoy the AR platform because it is cheap to shoot has no kick and just looks cool Media say why do you need an AR or they say Assult Rifle I prefer Tacticle Rifle OK why do you need a car that does 0 to 60 in 3 seconds YOU DONT really serves no purpose but its fun and you like it
Otter this is not me trying to be cruel to you I just dont agree with Mr.Morgan and his false statements
You know millions and millions of these guns AR 15 have been sold to civilians in last 10 years
According the FBI, of the 199 homicides recorded in Alabama in 2010, handguns were used in 112, hands, fists or feet were used in 17, knives were used in 23....none were committed with a rifle
I appreciate your thoughts and I bet we can agree more than disagree. I apologize for my terminology. I am not a gun owner but I am not opposed to gun ownership. I am not looking for weapons to be banned. I have no problem with people who have proper training and education, people who respect their weapon and the consequences of it's misuse from owning them. I want to make it hard for just your average person from owning them. I know we can never make it 100% impossible from a bad person from getting those weapons. But let's make harder for them to get those weapons and when they do let's try to lessen the lethality by limiting the rate of fire and numbers of rounds they can shoot between reloads. I would also like to go one further by holding gun owners accountable if their weapon does end up in the wrong hands. I personally know people who own guns, hand and rifles. They are respectful of their weapons. They use trigger locks and locked gun safes. Ammunition is kept in a separate locked box. I have fired rifles myself at a gun club with a qualified shooting instructor. If I had the free time and money I would love to own a rifle to go hunting. But I know there is more to owning a gun than just going out and buying one. If I were to buy a gun I would make sure to have trigger locks and a gun safe I would go one more and buy a barrel lock. Keep ammunition locked separately. Unfortunately too many people do not take these step. Also too many people buy a gun with no thought to what it really is and what it can do. The answer is not a ban. It is better education and training along with better(not necessarily tighter) control.
I agree with you as to Mr. Morgan. He speaks too passionately with no regard to a well spoken and level headed discussion.
huh I see tonight Morgan is changing up his words a little Now he says a modified AR15 can shoot 6 rounds a second why did he not say modified the other night
OK what you are talking about Morgan is a product called SLIDE FIRE STOCK they are online for $369.99
They say the slide fire with practice you can shoot like an full automatic and they are legal and you even get a letter from atf that it is legal according to there website
I do not own one of these nor will i ever because i have no need for this it just waste ammo in my opinion
BUT not one time has any one used a modified ar15 in any mass killings that i am aware of
Like I said I feel there is no need for this product BUT we live in a FREE i repeat FREE country and I dont think that government should say what one can or can not own to a certain extent
Mr.Morgan YOU are a reporter of some sort i guess BUT you really need to STOP trying to mislead people and provide facts and leave your personal opinion out of it Thats what is wrong with the media they say and do things to push there agenda and preferences instead of reporting the NEWS
Difference between Semi-Auto and full Auto
Something I looked up
An article you all should read
at bottom of league of shame it reads
The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 92 and South Africa 1,609.
UK 2034 per 100,000 haha No wonder Mr.Morgan wants to be here in America
I agree people should be responsible with all weapons Every gun I have bought came with a trigger lock which I use my children are 18 + and I am sad for any one who is murdered by any means But there are sick people in this world and we can not controll all things
My having an AR15 is for gun range use does it serve a purpose NO not really its fun and cheap and easy to shoot thats why I have one.
I use to drag race and have hot rods did real fast cars have a purpose NO but it was fun
I know guns and cars are not the same BUT it is a hobby either way People street race which makes it bad for hot rodders people killing with guns makes it look bad for that too
I guess there are no real answers for anything I just know that my faith in people is not what it once was I wish there was a way to stop all violence BUT I can not.
I can tell you this Otter I am scared that once the government starts with BANS how far will it go what will they take I do not want to be unarmed in this crazy world It is my job as a husband and father to protect my family if the need be which I hope never does
Have a good life Otter and thank you
I hope it doesn't come to bans either. I hope that both sides can find a way to come together and better educate each other so that responsible people can keep their weapons and make it harder for irresponsible people from getting them. I hope you never need to use your gun to defend your family or yourself.
I hope you and your family have a safe and happy life.
look what i found about Morgan

@piersmorgan don't think youre jumping on the bandwagon I think you are somewhat gleeful that a tragedy happened to help you push your cause
After lecturing Americans for days about the need to eviscerate their second amendment rights, CNN host Piers Morgan stoked further controversy when he sarcastically agreed with a tweet that accused him of being “gleeful” about the Connecticut school massacre because it allowed him to push his anti-gun political agenda.

@piersmorgan don't think youre jumping on the bandwagon I think you are somewhat gleeful that a tragedy happened to help you push your cause
Of course I am, you moron
19 Dec 12
Morgan, who was fired from British newspaper The Daily Mirror in 2004 for publishing a fake news story, has stoked furore amongst second amendment activists over the course of the past week by using the Sandy Hook shootings to aggressively push his pro-gun control message.
Responding to a Twitter user who remarked, “I think you are somewhat gleeful that a tragedy happened to help you push your cause,” Morgan responded, “Of course I am, you moron.”
Piers is a HERO in a society (USA) that is taken hostage by the NRA
Piers Morgan is a rabble rouser, nothing less that a monger of hate, a purveyor of ambush TV and a parasite for the almighty ratings game. Morgan is a poor excuse for an Irishman!
Roscoe dude, i hope that you have no children, otherwise you have to live in fear for the rest of your life that some psychopath blows your child away. USA is doomed.
Dirk I wouldn't go as far as the doomed thing ,but i do agree with your assessment of Roscoe ,
Morgan is doing a great service to the USA , there needs to be a sane debate on AR15 type weapons not only in the US but in NORTH AMERICA .
This type of weapon has no place in the hands of private citizens .
Thank you Pier for saying what most people outside the US think.
For every 80 gun killings in the US there is 1 in Europe – and we are twice as many people.
You Americans should try to understand why the rest of the world don't understand you. You are still living in the wild west. Try to become civilized.
Frank, Copenhagen, Denmark
Frank, you'd be speaking German right now if it weren't for us uncivilized Americans. You should be getting down on your knees to say thanks instead of looking down your nose at who and what we are. Did you ever stop to think it might be that you don't have anything anybody wants that accounts for why you don't need guns? Just wondering.
Chuck Stamford: I know exactly what Americans do not have , and because of that they need guns....: A Civilised Society
There have been many discussions about strengthening gun laws, however, for millions of Americans who are currently gun owners, perhaps a discussion of sensible gun ownership is needed. Suggestions for gun storage alternatives may prove helpful and maybe even save a life.
Perhaps our law enforcement and medical and mental health professionals could take the lead in advocating for sensible gun ownership.
As customary by his kind of journalism (Brits-Based Liberal against everything related to US), Pier tried to draw a connection between US flag and gun owners last night when reporting on kidnapper of 3 girls. Pier automatically assumed the kidnapper is a flag waving gun owner American. However, his uneducated claim about US flag hanging in front porch of kidnapper was false. The flag wasn't American flag but Puerto Rican. It is amazing that a journalist working in US for CNN, getting a high salary, not being able to recognize US flag. As customary by Brits journalist, since they don't have any positive news about their desperate homeland, they always try to put US down with negative news, just to feel good. Is he going to apologize? We will see if he is man enough or a person with a dark and unfair agenda.
