READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
On Tuesday evening, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed New York Times columnist, Nicholas Kristof and Southern Poverty Law Center's Mark Potok to the program to give their perspective on recent issues concerning gun rights and gun control.
Piers Morgan and his guests also discussed the infamously heated exchange between Morgan and radio host Alex Jones on Monday evening.
"As somebody who favors more gun control, I really hope that Alex Jones does more TV," said Kirstof. "I think, for your average Middle American in making the case, because people saw somebody who was foaming at the mouth, and they think, you know, this kind of person shouldn't be having - I think he said 50 guns around."
Potok also found little validity in Jones' on-air rant. "The important thing about what Alex Jones is about, what he represents, is that he has pushed out completely baseless conspiracy theories to literally tens of millions of Americans out there," said Potok.
Later on the program, Morgan's all-star panel comprising of attorney Gloria Allred, author Buzz Bissinger and Huff Post Live's Abby Huntsman gave their take on gun rights and gun control.
"If politicians had a spine," said Allred, "and stood up to the gun lobby and to those who who are very, very extreme in their views, as Mr. Jones was, instead of just cowering and afraid of losing the next election, we would have changes in gun laws that we would need. We would have what you suggest, for example, about closing the loopholes for gun shows."
Huntsman noted the influence of local communities on legislation saying "It really has to do with these legislators going back to their local towns, their local town hall meetings, and hearing from people that they represent, they want this done. It's really going to come from the America people saying, we're outraged, and make sure the conversation continues."
Bissinger took particular issue with the 2008 Supreme Court interpretation of the Second Amendment. "It seems to me, frankly, that a 10-year-old could read the Second Amendment and say, you have the right to bear arms for the formation of a militia. I think the 2008 - and I'm saying this as a layman. The 2008 Supreme Court ruling was a travesty. At the very least, it should be a state's right."

I don't always agree with the way Piers Morgan conducts interviews, but boy oh boy, this dude Alex Jones is rabid. Very believable that a complete moronic idiot like Alex is all for gun rights.
Good point imarod... For those wanting to restrict the second amendment in the US, perhaps you should look at what happened in the UK when they did the same thing. Gun crimes doubled in a decade. F'ing liberal idiots think that they can fix everything with a new law.
To Keyser: There were 35 gun related killings in the U.K. last year as opposed to 10-11000 in the U.S. so that blows your argument right out of the water!
You want to throw around numbers look at how many are gang related 90%. There are more people killed in car crashes. How about we make cars illegal. Or even better yet do background and mental checks be for you can have a kid. More kids did due to their parent killing them then being shoot by a f@#led up person with a gun.
This video was awesome. People shuld try to get this to Piers's attention.
-Your everyday friendly Canadian
Alex is not crazy, or moronic.
Your stating that you think he is shows exactly how ignorant (unknowledgeable) about what's really going on.
Alex may be incredibly frustrated at being pigeon-holed for his views and and in poor control of his emotions, but he's far from crazy or moronic.
He – like most who have a good knowledge of history and statistics – knows that it's a FACT that taking guns away from law abiding citizens RAISES crime rates. The chances of good people dying at the hands of crazies will not go down, because the guns are more heavily regulated or outlawed.
China is the perfect example of extreme gun control. Not only are guns outlawed, but the government is communist. What happened there? The crazies instead chose large knives. So, large knife controls were put in place. So now the crimes are being committed with stolen large knives and cleavers.
It's not my opinion that gun control will not work. It's a statistical and historical fact. It's not an extreme or radical view, if someone thinks that guns are not bad. It's a fact. Guns – until the early 20th century – at some times outnumbered people.
Guns are not the problem, and never will be. The people who want you to think that either have an agenda, or are simply afraid of guns and think that they can make the scary things go away if they make them illegal. Wrong. It's not an opinion, it's a statistical and historical fact. You will not lower the rate of violent crimes by making it impossible for sane, law-abiding people to have guns. There has not been one (1) case in history, where this has been true.
Don't agree? Then retort. But come prepared with historical and statistical (verifiable) proofs to your argument.
Alex's complete lack of logic, lack of critical thinking skills, and his ignorance of (even denial of) actual facts is astounding
But can we do something about the mentally ill people with guns? People who are a threat to themselves and others should not be able to purchase unlimited ammunition. We take the keys away from the elderly that are a threat on the road and if you get a DUI you loose your drivers license. Why can't the same rules apply to guns?
I agree with you 100%. Alex is passionate about what he believes and is not afraid to stand up for it. I admire him for that. I dont always agree but on the gun issue I do.
The antigun people are not educated about the guns or statistics so instead they have to threaten people. Just because Alex stands by his beliefs, doesnt give someone the right to threaten him and those people should be held accountable. These people acted like bullies
Way to go Piers! Take on the madmen!
Alex jones an idiot he made every gun owner look like a ranting fool that believes george bush blew up the trade center
Hmmm....you are really not the smartest guy around here...are you for real or are you kidding...do you for real mean that easy access to guns will lower number of murders and accidents with guns...you really do not respect peoples lives...why do you think that raising a family in a war zone is a good idea? So a shoot out in a school, in a supermarket or other places with a lot of people is a good idea? sacrifice your family just to protect people that make tons of money selling guns, that managed to convince you about that...wow...you have them in east and you have them in west...crazy people...
Alex Jones is a conspiracy nut, I listen to his show, and I listened to him when he guest hosted Coast to Coast AM. He is in the same category as Clyde Lewis and the others that feel the Word Trade Attacks were an inside job, the Moon landing was a hoax, OK city bombing was an inside job, the New World Order is real and the Rosicrucianism societies are working to destroy America.....
From the FBI's crime stats, there were 8,000 gun related deaths not the 11,000 piers said there were. and of those 8,000 over 600 were caused by trigger happy cops murdering unarmed citizens. Why does Piers lie so much? I am from the UK, Piers, please come home and face the charges awaiting you for the hacking scandal and the fake news stories you published in the Daily Mirror!

Alex Jones is not rabid. He is trying to wake you closed minded people and does a lot of research. What he says is ture. You to can find all of the info he gives you. Alex is very passionate about Americans keeping are freedoms and not letting the big banks(new world order) from taking over. I have listened to Piers and everything is a scripted he has no knowledge of what is going on or just does not want you to know.
The most simplistic solution is to mandate that all school children be armed [maybe not kindergarteners cause they can be such big babies], keep a tidy ketch of napalm in all teacher's lounges and imprison anyone who is opposed to the second amendment which, by default, requires the repeal of the first amendment. Result: a new Utopia. This probably means we also will need to burn all copies of the original Utopia currently in our libraries, authored by that crazy Sir Thomas More. Look what happened to him for having morals!
You don't know Alex Jones. You also don't know what these people will do to push their own agenda. Piers Morgan fled the UK after posting false images in his TABLOID newspaper. All this man knows is sensationalism. Then the next night, they're talking about "popping" him? What a bunch of hypocrites! And the way they talked about his children was just scary. I cannot believe this idiot still has a job! I've never watched his show, and never will.
I have lost all respect for CNN in the process. This is so far over the line it's disgusting.
For those of you who call Alex Jones Crazy: Crazy is standing idly by while the TSA gropes your wife and kids, watching as the NDAA and the Patriot Act abolish your right to privacy, not speaking out while your government openly tortures people, sitting on the sideline while the government allows the banks to take record numbers of homes and then acting complaicant while your tax money bails those banks out, watching as the government arms themselves to the teeth against it's citizens while acting to ban your guns, and taking all of this in while denying that something foul is happening... You complaicant little twerps make me absolutely sick and not one of you have the right to call yourselves an American.
Jason, you are completely deranged. Why do so many so called Americans hate our government? All you have is hate in your heart. You are so angry, but don't know how to deal with it so you turn to gun ownership. Your rant basically says you are ready to go to war with the government and you want guns so you can kill them. You are the worst example of what an American is. You reveal yourself as a traitor, ready to go to war against a legally elected government because you are in the minority. Grow up.
Jim, the only one derranged here is you. If you don't like the US, then you are more than welcome to leave...
Jim, you are the worst example of what an American is and has always been. You stand firm against the Bill of Rights which makes you the perfect example of a traitor. My views are synonomous with the founder's visions for Liberty and freedom and I will always stand firm. Read the Federalist Papers and you will see the true reason for having the 2nd Amendment. Further, I am an Independent and to be a zealot partisan is as unAmerican as one can get... Clearly you are the victem of a public education that failed you and you lack any intellectual curiosity to pursue a proper education on your own. If you do not like the Bill of Rights, then move to China where you can be monitored 24-7 for your personal security.
Jim, I find it interesting that you responded to none of the actual points that Jason made in his post. You simply insulted him and went on to classify him according to your own point of view. Are you saying that you are OK with government sponsored torture? Are you saying you are OK with TSA groping your wife or child? Are you saying you are OK with Bush's so called "Patriot Act", which stripped a number of our basic liberties? Can you not respond to interogatives by answering the points rather than ranting with an emotional outburst?
Jason, why do you even watch CNN? Just go back to your Fox News world of paranoia and crazy conspiracy theories.
I know people like you. The "why do you care" group. As long as something doesn't effect them, they turn a blind eye to what is going on around them. Perhaps you are happy with the Patriot Act, the NDAA, the fact that our government is meddling in every aspect of our lives. But to folks like you that's ok. Thank Buddha I am not one of the sheeple, which you seem to have happily joined.
Wow- TSA is groping my wife? Do you have video?
@Keyser, you really need to get help with your anger. I'm sorry the USA has treated you so shabbily.
So perhaps you are suggesting we shoot all of those groups and government officials we are angry at?
Glad I am a "complainant little twerp" And I just know you are wrong about "not one of you have the right to call yourselves an American." I was born here, nuff said
And you are a real fine example of an open minded adult – NOT!
It's astounding to me the level of brainwashing you endure, I feel for you. But for a moment stop and think for a second. Most personal freedom destroying legislation was enacted by Bush and other conservative policy makers. Back then they gave you a nice and perfect illusionary enemy to direct your hate at, terrorists. But all of a sudden a democrat gets in office all that hate and fear of terrorism blithely redirects itself. Where was the outrage WHEN these liberty destroying pieces of law were being voted on? I know it's convenient to wait until someone else step in to place all the blame with whom you have less in common.
The fact that conservative pundits have tricked some of the most adamantly freedom loving citizens such as yourself into this nonsense of hate really is a sad state of affairs. See now there are liberals out there like myself who believe the right to own a handgun sidearm is perfectly reasonable. But that's where it ends is really the only point.
Thank you Jason, I agree. We ALL need to be more like Mr. Alex Jones speaking out & especially when it comes to our rights! Alex Jones is passionate about all of our rights as US Citizens and for that I applaud him, Alex has dedicated years and years of his life speaking out for our rights!!!
President Obama or Vice Biden should not be allowed to explore executive orders to combat gun violence. As a US Citizen I was offended by you Mr. Peirs Morgan for the way you spoke to Mr. Pratt this evening in regards to gun control. CNN has munipulated the interview with Mr. Alex Jones to make him look bad.. The real monsters are the ones that munipulate the people through media and shame on us for letting them. Were you not told Mr. Morgan to just sit there to make yourself look like the calm one while Mr. Jones was speaking? It would not surprise me if Mr. Jones was harrassed just traveling to the CNN show? I would be fired up too. But, I bet your blood was boiling Mr. Morgan because you were told to sit there while Mr. Jones was speaking and why was there not a desk instead of a stool for Alex like you normally have for all other guest? Set up! Set up! Set up! Mr. Morgan you should be removed from television plus it would be nice if both you & your friend Ms. Huffington were removed from CNN. Morgan/Huffington please go back to your own countries. Our family will not be watching CNN after the way you have exploited Mr. Jones and for the way you spoke to Mr. Pratt this evening.
Jason, there are none so blind as those who will not see. You can't wake most of these people up- even those speaking out who survived the Nazi regime can't wake them up. Remember Ben Franklin's words; Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Keep up the good fight!
Alex Jones = The best thing to happen to the advocates of Gun Control...ever.
Do you really think his choice of guest was not made for that very reason? Do you really believe that this person is representative of all people who support our right to keep and bear arms? The inability of some to see beyond the smoke and mirrors is sad. "...Ignore that man behind the curtain!"
Agreed. I suggest Piers have Alex on nightly. Alex's idiocy did more to further the cause of gun control than Piers ever could have.
Alex needs anger management. If his belief on how guns should be controlled in this country is truly fair and just, there would be absolutely no need to rant, yell, threaten. From his display, it is obviously the wrong view. I am embarrassed for him, and feel sorry for him, he is not a happy man!
Yup it a good thing the population of my city is larger than the viewers on morgans show i pray not many people viewed the idiot alex jones
Loved the comments from the all-star panel. Another great show! Well done!
I wish you had invited somebody with intelligence, like Sam Harris, to join the gun debate.
Jones is a very scary man, he is the reason so many sick people have guns, he, with his sick mind and words, is convincing these sick individuals to 'go get a gun, it's your right'..God help us from people like him. I am not a great fan of Piers Morgan, but what he is doing about bringing gun control to light is commendable.
You obviously know nothing about Alex Jones and what he stands for Patty. Like so many others in this country, you let the liberal media form your opinions for you. Can you say Baaaaaaa....
Keyser~ Seriously? Did you even WATCH that interview? How can you possible deny the fact that Jones is a whacko nut job? STFU.
I know exactly what Alex Jones, "stands for". I have listened to him and seen his videos for years. I do not get my information about him from Liberal media. He is a deranged, paranoid, delusional lunatic. And I think that most any trained Psychiatrist who spends a few minutes watching and listening to him would readily agree.
Alex Jones reminds me of James Holmes. Imagine what would happen when you put assault weapons in the hands of a mad man like Jones. Ironically this is exactly the reason why we need gun control – to prevent assault weapons from falling in the hands of individuals like Alex Jones. There is no need for gun control if it were individuals with brains like Piers Morgan who owns it.
Reblogged this on "KnoGimmicks" Social Media .
They need to take away Mr. Jones' guns because he is mentally ill.
Spoken like a true believer Mary. Perhaps we should revoke your right to reproduce. How would you feel about that?
How many guns do you own? How many of them are military type weapons which are only for the armed forces to kill people? And don't tell me you use them to "hunt" as a real hunter uses a hunting rifle! You are as nuts as Jones,
Please stick to what you know and not to what you think you know. First, the weapon you are talking about is similar to the weapon we use in the military in appearance only. Second, while I do know some people who hunt with M16/AR15 style weapons, all you would have to do is look at some hunting magazines or websites to be correctly informed
Very scary that this guy (who hopefully is being "watched " by the Southern Poverty Law Center) has so many weapons. If anyone needs mental health treatment it is this guy with his many fixed paranoid delusions.
How come the socialist-liberal Morgan will not report on this, a man saved other from a possible mass shooting because he has a concealed-carry permit http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/356100/3/Man-flourishing-gun-is-shot-arrested-in-north-city
I used to watch CNN as it was one of the most unbiased media sources in the US. That is until they put this clown from the UK on their channel and gave him a show. I am now boycotting CNN and advising everyone I know to do the same. Get rid of the criminal from the UK and I'll consider watching our channel again.
Other networks have shows I don't like, but I don't boycott the whole network. I still think CNN is the closest to unbiassed. I just moved back to the states. My husband has never seen Fox or MSNBC 'til now, so for kicks and giggles we'll channel surf CNN then fox then msnbc and back. He's truly amazed and I'm truly embarrassed at how subjective the other channels are.
Americans spend millions on drugs that have been banned for decades, yet they keep coming. If we double the money paid to these countries and organizations then every rapist, murderer etc who wants one can have a gun shipped in. One simple question: How will you defend your self when someone kicks in your door with a weapon that's already banned? I'm only asking for the right and ability to shoot back.
For heaven sakes, nobody said you couldn't shoot back. Some of us just wonder why a person needs more than 10 rounds shot faster than 1 per second to protect yourself or to hunt. I live in the middle of Fox country, and even many of my neighbors here see the sense in closing the loopholes, limiting clips to 10, and banning FURTHER sales of assault weapons. We don't want to take away what you have; we want to stop the sales of more of these weapons, and we want EVERYONE to undergo a background check.
Morgan...you passionately argue about gun control but then find it so funny when your guest advocates using a gun to shoot a man that you disagree with about gun control? Your hypocrisy is astounding. You are a stupid insignificant little man.
To all you 2nd Amendment haters - 350 million guns have been sold legally to Americans. Alex Jones is just one man. He is not representative of all gun owners. So don't get too excited. The millions of other Americans don't rant like he does. We simply believe that we have a right to protect ourselves.
Alex Jones was approved to have guns? Clearly the video shows he suffers from a mental disorder.
I doubt you'd get a shot off before you wet yourself. More than likely they will kill you with your own guns. Your guns create and illusion of safety.
I live in Chicago where Fire Works are illegal. Yet every 4th of July everyone has fireworks. How many zillions of dollars will the government have to spend on gun control? And still it will be a losing battle. Leave our 2nd Amendment alone.
I live in Indiana where murder is illegal, yet we still have murders here. By your logic, perhaps Indiana should throw up their hands and consider ending this losing battle against murder, which also costs millions of dollars, and make murder legal.
Yea you're right, their completely the same thing. Actually not, but you actually help make the point. Just making something illegal doesn't prevent it from happening. Only law abiding citizens obey the law.
If Piers thinks England is all that, then that's exactly where he belongs! Why is he here? As far as I'm concerned he has no say so regarding the affairs of this country. What has he invested here besides his lousy opinions on Americas Got Talent. Go home to England Piers where you think it's all good or shut up.
The followers of Jones don't appear to realize that he is a progressive plant who is a gun control advocate. His obviously staged performance lends support to this. Do your research and get the FACTS on Jones.
From a Canadian perspective …
When the issue of gun related deaths is discussed in the USA, there are generally 3 high-level areas which people point to as causes:
1. The ready availability of guns
2. The negative influence of media, including violent video games.
3. “Mental Health” issues.
I’ve shown the statistics, on a table below, of recent firearm related death rates (per 100,000 pop) in “English speaking” countries:
New Zealand 2.66
I’ve chosen English speaking countries with similar cultural attributes as the USA to make comparisons somewhat easier. (Also, like all statistics, they can be challenged or denied, but the intent is to demonstrate that the death rate in the US from firearms is much higher than in the other countries shown above). All of these countries have stronger levels of gun control than the USA.
There is a powerful point of view in the USA that guns, and gun control, are neither the cause nor the solution to the problem of firearm related deaths. The cause(s) are generally seen to lie in the 2 other areas mentioned above. Therefore, if one assumes that guns themselves are not a cause, it has to be either negative media influence or mental health issues, or a combination thereof.
Looking at media influence, the argument would then have to be made that media in the USA is significantly and dramatically more violent than that of the other above-mentioned countries. However, based on both personal experience and other evidence, I think it can be safely stated that people in NZ, Canada, UK, etc., are essentially watching the same TV and movies, and are playing the same video games and apps as their American cousins. Therefore, if media were indeed the root cause, the death rates would be comparable in the other countries.
The same argument holds for that of mental health. If availability of guns isn’t a factor, then there would have to be a significantly higher rate of mental illness, resulting in violent behaviour, in the USA than in these other countries. Once again, I don’t think there is much evidence to support this.
From my perspective, there are only 2 conclusions that can be drawn. Either the far greater availability of guns is a cause of much higher gun related deaths in the USA, or the USA is intrinsically a significantly more violent society, and Americans would continue to kill themselves, and each other, with other weapons if guns weren’t available.
My personal belief is that as long as the USA has the 2nd Amendment, gun control will continue to be considered primarily a civil rights issue, and it will continue to generate very polarized and emotional arguments and rhetoric. In other jurisdictions, like the countries above, gun control is viewed more as a means of balancing public safety with the responsible use of firearms for recreational use (such as hunting, collecting, competing, etc). Citizens of these other countries don’t view carrying a firearm as an inalienable right, nor a patriotic mission, so discussions on gun control don’t typically carry the same emotional weight.
Thank you for the voice of reason but then again, because you/we are Canadian we don't count! I'm from the U.K. and have never even heard of a gun-related crime/murder either before I came here or since & there have been 35 over the past year. The 2nd Amendment is for forming a militia as any 10 yr old could see (paraphrasing one of Morgan's panellists). Of course here in Canada if we shot someone coming through our door, we'd be charged with murder for defending ourselves. It's a scary time we live in & the fact that people like Alex Jones and the other rabid fanatics can get 50 guns makes me not ever want to enter the U.S. ever again.
I completely agree with Jason. I can't believe how the American public has come to believe the same policies of Hitler are the path we should go down.
Yes! Clearly the Obama administration is out to vilify minorities and make them the scapegoat for our problems!
If you are going to gone down the historically inaccurate path that Hitler took away guns and blah blah blah, I suggest you do something different, actually read and research history.
Hitler had no plans to disarm Germany, he wanted the Germans to own guns. He didn't take control of Germany, he was democratically elected and the people loved him. Did you ever see him shy away from a rally, parade, or speaking event? He was an ego-manic.
May I suggest that instead of Countries you look at States. I think you will find that the States with the most restrictive gun rights have the highest violent crime rates. Those that have least restriction have some of the lowest. Why do bad guys go to schools? because they know that no one has a gun but them. Otherwise they would go to a gun show or the police station. Most other Countries don't have 80,000,000 gun owners with 280,000,000 guns. If those other countries had as many guns there would be more gun violence. If they had more hammers they would have more hammer violence. If you don't have the second amendment the others won't last.
You seem to have your cause and effect confused... If in fact your stats are true, a likely cause would be that states with high violent crime rates felt the need to initiate stricter gun control in an effort to curb violence. Stricter gun control laws were not the cause of the gun violence, they were the response to it.
The cause and effect is fine. The point is that the more restrictive gun rights did nothing to make the population more safe. Probably less.
The point is that the more restrictive gun rights did nothing to make the population more safe. Probably less.
sorry . My wife tells me that I repeat myself all the time.
When you outlaw guns, only criminals will have them. Please tell me how well outlawing heroin, etc. worked? There is no such thing as an "assault weapon". Look up your classifications and get it right. Also, the Sandy Hook killer had 4 handguns with him. Not an "assault rifle". The only other gun was a shotgun in his trunk. Have you seen the videos, or did you only listen to what was reported on the news? Also, any of you who think the 2nd Amendment was about hunting need ro re-read your history! What you people need to understand is that no gun rights activist wants to hurt you. We don't hate you. We want to wake you up! You just can't see what we're losing- not just guns, our very way of life has been sold down the river.
Oh also, there were not 35 gun murders in the UK last year it was over 60 and the violent crime rate is through the roof, way higher than the US because we no longer have guns to defend ourselves!
Absolute rubbish George!
Piers. Alex Jones may be extreme, but there is some truth to what he says. And you are way off base on your statistics. Great Britain has a violent crime rate of 1,158,957. 2034 per 100,000 residents. The US has a violent crime rate of 1,203,564. 386 per 100,000 residents. But eh Us has 5 times the population. So which country is by far more violent. Correct. Yours. Violent crime is violent crime. Having more gun control in the United States is not the answer. Criminals and crazies will get them no matter what.
While I understand what your trying to say, it doesn't matter that the US has 5x the population. The statistic is based per 100,000, every 100,000 across the entire population of both countries.
Funny how in this edited clip that they are showing they do not play it though the part where Buzz Bissinger calls for Piers Morgan to "POP" Alex Jones.
Check out this link. How can these gun grabbers make a statement about shooting another journalist for having a conflicting point of view. WOW
Perhaps Alex Jones and the citizens of America and the world who listen to his program arent the "crazy" ones, perhaps its the people who choose to let the government and corporate media dictate to them their thoughts and actions. Wake up people, get off your couch, and think for yourselves!
Strong support for Piers Morgan!!
This country needs rational people like Piers Morgan. We have too many irrational mad men like Alex Jones in this country that threatens the security of the nation. Piers Morgan has common sense. Alex Jones has no sense.
Congratulations on your incredible bit of journalism. I can’t wait for your “You are not the babies daddy” and “I cheated on my wife with her mother” specials next. Good job on bringing in a conspiracy theorist and give him a larger audience in order to get your name into the spotlight and sell more advertising. Open discussion on responsible gun ownership is carried out by differing parties to try to find a solution to a problem, not people trying to push their own agendas.
I’m sorry you don’t understand why someone would want one of these guns, but I don’t understand why you didn’t raise your voice when more people die on the south side of Chicago each year than troops in Afghanistan from illegal hand guns. Or why we don’t discuss alcohol sale locations and hours even though the annual death rate is comparable with firearm deaths. Just because we don’t understand something doesn’t give us the right to make it illegal.
Also, the weapons of which you are speaking are semi-automatic rifles and they are not what we use in the military. The M-16/AR-15 platform is popular for hunting and sport shooting because of its modularity and ease of use.
There are several policies that could be discussed such as reduced capacity magazines, close gun show loopholes, mandatory background checks and waiting periods, ban on automatic weapons, magazine detachment requiring a tool (bullet button). I’m sure there are other responsible suggestions that could be put forward for discussion such as barrel length, training, insurance, and security.
Even though I had no intention of purchasing a gun, I now plan to purchase three different semi-automatic rifles this month and next. As I am deploying once again to Afghanistan, I have to purchase them now before they are summarily banned and my choice to purchase one in the future is denied. I realize that I’ll be able to purchase larger caliber handguns with 13 and 18 round magazines in the future because they don’t look as scary, and as such nobody is even talking about them, at least until the next person with a mental illness performs a horrendous act.
Before anyone posts any more comments, please view this: http://youtu.be/GsmcH2UPsw4
The US is indeed violent, but is the UK a bastion of safety and peace, as Piers Morgan suggests? Nope. Why their likeness is his goal, I have no idea.
Alex Jones is a perfect example of why we need gun crontrol. Thanks, Alex, for making my point.
During the above show, which is the subject of this article, Piers and his guests laughed at Bissinger's disgusting suggestion for Piers to "pop" a human being, be it Alex Jones, with a legally owned gun. Abby Huntsman even chimed in to say she'd love to see that -and in uniform. (?) The only thing you care to bring up was that Alex Jones is the perfect example of why we need gun control. Let's see, rant vs. laughing about "pop[ing]" a human being. Yeah rants are worse, right. We should take guns away from these people who rant.
The 2nd Amendment, Batman Shooting & High Fructose Corn Syrup
GUN VIOLENCE AND INCARCERATION = DISPARITY IN WEALTH AND OPPORTUNITIES.
In 1965, ( I am a 67 year-old white man) I and many others opposed our parents who were racist. They were wrong to fear and hate blacks and we stood up and said, "NO". Our children have to realize that now, almost 50 yeras later that we are wrong about guns. and have vto say "NO." Guns can be used for evil and must be controlled. Our chioldren's parentts are lying to them when they they say guns are good. Black people are just as good as you and I. Guns are bad. We have to educate our kids and grand kids to be better than us and understand that they have to be smarter than we are. Let go of the John Wayne and cowboy ideals just as we had to let go of the white supremicists' lies. Let our children see the harm that guns do and will do. In our newspapers, on the internet, on huge billboards in front of our public buildings, on their TV shows, show them the dailly death toll from guns in the USA. W have big billboards that show the national debt, days to Christams, etc., why not the year-to-date count of people we kill with guns. It is too late for us to learn about the evil that guns can produce. We appear determined to allow each other to kill many of our fellow citizens as we chose. Let us educate our kids to be better than us and to put John Wayne and his mentality back where it belongs, in the history books with the Klu Klux Klan.
I find it interesting on how you try to compare gun ownership with racism and discrimination. Even though there is nothing comparable. All just to appear to have some higher moral ground. Instead, lets compare gun deaths to alcohol related deaths, then ask yourself if your as passionate about eliminating alcohol.
Statistics show 43,000 gun related deaths in 2005. Of those 66.9% were suicides. That leaves about 12,000. Of those 75% had criminal records. That leaves 3000. Of those it is unknown how many involved assault style rifles. Most were committed with handguns not a rifle of any kind. Also most involved 18-24 year olds. Much was gang or drug related. If we are really interested in saving live we should address tobacco which kills 440,000 a year or drugs which kill 200,000 a year or perhaps automobiles. Over 3700 people died in car accidents in Texas alone in one year. How about those statistics?
Right on brother. All good points that anti gun advocates wouldn't like to talk about because that would effect their lifestyle.
Also, 50,000 will die of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol abuse this year.

I say yes Bill of right Firearms Act. Why they don't understand explain you to, america people. If you are fail English test.
Mr Piers Morgan,
In You, I recognize a brave man, an honourable man, a man that stands up against ridiculous ideas and cowardice.
I would be honoured if you were my fellow countryman. Well done and thank you.
The Second Amendement was based on the minute men of the American Revolution. The citizen soldier with his privately-owned latest technology firearms ready to defends his liberties against a tyrannical government bent on over taxation. The second amendment was meant to guarantee that the government would never take away the rights of free speech, private property, religion and assembly guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. As Thomas Jefferson said, "An armed citizenry is necessary to the maintenance of a free state. It is good from time to time for the government to be reminded that the people have the will to resist."
Maybe it is now time to move forward in your thinking major.
People like Alex Jones and Larry Pratt scare the heck out of me. Jones acts like a madman and just plain crazy and he has guns!!! Piers is trying to explain that countries that have banned guns have lower murder rates, etc. But all Jones and Pratt can do is talk over him and come up with their own made up statistics!! I have no respect for them. These two interviews alone make me want to support the banning of guns in the U.S.
I'm pretty sure your mind was made up before these interviews, and no other facts would matter.
if you think pierce and his twisted views will make you safer think again. this is the dude who ran from his homeland because of wire tapping those people. first they got to take the 2nd amendment then it will be the first amendment. then you must shout up and not be able to fight back.
Why don't you go back to Britain if it is so much safer there. You don't belong in the US.
for pierce: If the UK is so safe why do u need video cameras on every street corner?
Buddy Love, the reason so many CCTV cameras were introduced into London and subsequently spread across the U.K was to help combat the terrorist threat from the IRA, often funded by Irish Americans.
Good idea Bob. Piers, maybe you should move to Canada. You would not believe the amount of Americans that have recently moved into my neck of the woods. I don't know why. Hope they leave the weapons home. We only like to fight with hockey sticks.
I don't understand why Piers keeps giving these crazy NRA people any forum at all, they should just be ignored. They are like Jerry Springer guest rejects or wannabes for the pro-wrestling curcuit. They resort to just a bunch of contrived melodramatic nonsense and vulgar theatrics. They are laughable.
Funny, that's the reason I thought he was inviting guests like these instead of a real dialog. Ratings baby. Shock brings tweets, tweets bring advertisers, advertisers bring money. I'm not sure if he did work for the Sun in Britain as some have stated, but if he did it sure is showing
Proverbs 9:7-9: Whoever corrects the arrogant earns insults;
and whoever reproves the wicked incurs opprobrium.
Do not reprove the arrogant, lest they hate you;
Reprove the wise, and they will love you.
Dear Mr. Morgan
Why not have a gun death ticker like that of the national debt and post it in a place that gets plenty of media coverage. This country needs to see its self from a different point of view. Like photo therapy is used to show those that suffer from Anorexia Nervosa how they really look, a gun death ticker could be used to reflect the actual condition the country is in due to guns. The ticker could show for example: The total number of gun deaths, number of homicides, number or of suicides, accidental deaths and so on, on one end and on the other end it could show the number of time guns have been used for the purpose of the second amendment for example: number of times guns have been used against a tyrannical government, number of times guns were used for the purpose of self defense and so on. Let America see its self in the mirror every day in the hopes it will do something about its self. Keep the gun death ticker highly visible and let it slip into the conscience of America and the result that guns have wrought.
Thank you for taking on the NRA. Its about time that someone spoke up against them. You interviews are revealing about the kind of people who are against control. They seem to be dangerous people who really don't care about what happens to people only about their right to have assault weapons. The point that they don't get is we want assult weapons off the street , they can have their hand guns and rifles for hunting, but not a gun that shoots more than one bullet without reloading.
Mr. Morgan has my full support. The second amendment was created in a time when citizens needed to protect their homes from British soliders who felt free to confiscate home, food and whatever else they needed. It WAS NOT intended to put instruments deadly massacre into the hands of individual citizens. One pistol (event though that inself increases the changes of deadly conflict) per household is all the is required. As for game hunters, remember we do hunt for food in these days...we go to the grocery store. The theory that game hunting is necessday to control the wild population is also flawed as we have created that dilemna by encroaching on natural habitate. Surely we if can send a man to the moon, skype each other with the flip of a button, we can come to a solution that protects both man and beast.
Keep fighting against the insanity of the NRA and those members who think arming everyone is the way this country needs to behave.
I totally agree with you and hope CNN continues to allow you to speak up for those of us who believe there are already far too many guns, bullets, and unstable people existing together.
I wish I could nominate Piers Morgan for a Nobel prize. What courage and grace he shows when advocating for sanity in the gun control debate. I pray that those of us in the silent majority will also actually speak out for the sakes of our children's futures, including ratching down the prolifieration and promotion of violence in every aspect of the media, especially where it targets children.
Grow up judy this isnt about those kids ...it's about your government talking all guns and this isn't a time to be pathetic lady
Ah, what a shame if the government took all the guna and only allowed police to have them and the military...it might actually prevent murder and mayhem.
The 2nd Ammendment Saddens Me.
THAT Some of the people of Noth America need to have guns of any type. Then you need a few Laws, Rules,Etc.... to follow.
The Hand Guns REQUIRE .22 – 45 Or 9mm. So ANY Bullets BIGGER Than That Should LAWFULLY ONLY BOUGHT
AT A GUN RANGE and USED IN THAT PLACE (NOT OVER A COUNTER OF A GUN SHOP).
I would even make the comment that all Automatic Assault weapons IF you need to have one BE Kept Locked at a SHOOTING RANGE.......
I'M A UK CITIZEN (EX ARMY) 29 Years Service
Left from history about what happening if you disarm the nation and stop being a whinging Pom and take your head out if the sand.
In the aftermath of the school shootings in Newtown there is yet another re-birth of a heating discussion on gun-laws and gun ownership. What I find amazing is the seeming lack of knowledge and or disregard of facts from both stances.
However, the main argue point I have is with the NRA. I know I am speaking in general terms, but I believe that it is safe to say that most NRA members, and those who lobby for the NRA are Republicans who are taking the stand that government is too big and spending is too much. With that being said, I find it very hypocritical and disgraceful that the NRA proposes that the government find money to pay for police in every school. If the NRA truly cares let them fund this project.
Another disgusting remark made by those who are against any laws or legislation about guns is their unfounded fear that they need their weapons to battle the tyrannical government that may come in the future. These paranoids are afraid that the “government” will turn on them; I guess they forget that we [American citizens] are the power of the government. We elect and we replace our chosen leaders.
Yea so what that Alex dude is a nut ball.....but it's usually the quiet ones you need to worry about. I bought an AR-15 semi-auto...great target gun, fun to shoot...I just want it for when the Aliens or Chinese invade...Don't I have that right??
Keep fighting the good fight Sir Morgan...
How is it okay for Buzz Bissinger to call for the shooting of another human being because he disagrees with him? Why is no one outraged about that? To advocate for gun control, except in the case of shooting those who have different opinions? How is that not disturbing and distressing? I didn't find it the least bit humorous in the wake of the tragedies that we have all just witnessed. Where is the outrage when someone, no matter what your or my opinion might be of him, is threatened on public airwaves? What if the tables were reversed and Alex Jones had joked about shooting one of those people? I find it deeply disturbing that people find that kind of commentary acceptable – no wonder our society is the way it is, if it is okay to make threatening comments, to want to address violence in society by suggesting violent solutions to people who disagree with them. BTW, I have never owned a gun and never will. I abhor all violence, including the violence of the words from these media figures. And not even an apology to Alex Jones for joking about murdering him. I have lost all respect for CNN.
the roles were reversed sort of the white plains journal released the names and addresses of ccw permit holders in two counties in NY and when the names addresses and emails of the staff were released they got threatening emails, letters etc. and the discussion boards blew up with how they were wrong make those threats and they should be arrested apparently its a one way street its ok for gun control advocates (insane gun control freaks or igcf's) to threaten rabid gun-nuts (responsible gun owners) but its definitely not ok for responsible gun owners to threaten insane gun control freaks. Hypocrisy abounds from the igcf's its ok for morgan to shout down and insult his guest like he did for Larry Pratt but if Mr. Jones shouts him down he is a raving lunatic who proves there should be more gun control though as far as i know Mr. Jones has never killed any anyone with his gun when his temper flared so i don't see the connection

ALL the countries above the USA have 100% gun bans

Back in 2004, Piers Morgan was fired from his job as editor at the UK Daily Mirror newspaper when it was discovered that photos allegedly showing British soldiers abusing an Iraqi were fake. The BBC reported in 2004 that “it appeared Piers Morgan remained unrepentant right to the end.”
Your show is very influential. Your raising the topic of Sandy Hook is reveling many more facts and and most importantly the thinking of people like Alex. I request you to put light on the recent terrible incident of suicide attack in Quetta, Pakistan,
which took lives of hundreds of people.
I noticed something about the people who become "un-hinged" with the suggestion of gun control, they remind me of the people on the reality shows about hording. When someone suggest that get rid of any of their positions, they react the same way that some of the "pro gun" people react. They will say things that a rational person would never say when they feel their items are at risk from being taken away. They seem to become very upset with the concept of banning one type of gun and one type of clip, are there not many other type of firearms that they can own. Why do they become so upset with just one type of gun being treated? If we are taking a serious look at the mentally ill in this country, maybe we should look at these individuals and determine if they need care for mental illness.
I'd like to offer a proposal that would reduce gun violence nationally, and could immediately win wide bipartisan support.
This idea has an important difference compared with many of the measures being considered today, which are focused specifically on preventing horrors like the recent massacre of schoolchildren and adults in Newtown, CT. It deals with the rest of the gun violence problem, the non-mass killings that account for over 30 gun deaths per day in the United States.
You've no doubt heard that if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns; that guns don't commit murder, people do. Well, whether we like it or not, their appeal lies in the fact that there is some truth to them, and I would like to offer an idea that uses their same logic to help stem gun violence of all kinds. As I said, it's an idea that appeals to groups across the political spectrum, for reasons I think you'll readily see.
Here is the idea:
Let's outlaw what we ALL agree we don't want. Let's outlaw the use of a gun to commit a crime.
How do we do that, in a way that goes beyond the ineffective measures against the use of guns in crime that are already on the books? Here is how: Let's penalize the USE of guns in a crime far more heavily than we do today. Let's treat gun violence as the truly serious crime we all agree that it is.
How? It's pretty simple, really. If someone fires or brandishes a gun – any gun – in the commission of ANY crime, they will automatically get an additional 15 years tacked on to their sentence. Period.
It sounds harsh. And it is. Intentionally. Because it has to break through the numbness that too often affects our (and criminals') perceptions of gun-use. The sad fact is that gun-use in crime has become a commonplace in America, an expected aspect of the event. What we expect to hear on the News at Eleven. What should outrage us, a man using a gun to rob a candy store, is seen as just part of the usual picture. And thus we have made the use of guns part of our standard canon of even petty crime. We hardly notice it as the shocking violation of people – a threat of death – that it is.
The truth is that the real job at hand isn't about guns; it is about gun culture. And to make a real difference at that level, to get the attention of those who would use guns to terrify and harm others, harsh, eye-catching change is a necessary step.
If those considering going armed must look at the gun as a guaranteed +15 years in prison, they WILL hesitate to carry, and maybe even hesitate to own. (If you don't believe it, then make it 20 years.) If we all agree that we don't want criminals using guns to commit crimes, if we really mean it, then let's write some serious laws that will say so loud and clear. Similar laws have been tried here and there, typically with just 5-year additions to sentences, but they have had only limited effect. 5 years is simply not enough. What is necessary is a stretch that likely exceeds the penalty for the non-gun aspect of the crime itself. The Plus-15 idea does just that. It will be noticed and it WILL have an affect on the predators who would use guns against law-abiding citizens.
It's a good bet that the NRA would accept such a law. Why? Because it isolates only the deliberate, CRIMINAL use of a gun, rather than outlawing ownership or creating background-check hurdles, etc. It is in essence what the NRA has been calling for all along: that only the criminal use of a gun be isolated and punished.
You'd likely get a lot of bipartisan political support for this measure, too, unlike a number of the other proposals being discussed today. After all, the Plus-15 proposal does not prevent gun ownership, and yet it would almost certainly reduce premeditated gun violence, as in drive-by's, robberies, gang violence, etc. It would still allow homeowners and other average citizens to have guns for protection if they so desire. And it's important to note that it wouldn't – in any way – infringe on 2nd Amendment rights. That's important to a lot of the people who oppose many of the other proposals being discussed.
Another thing: whether or not it works as a deterrent (let's face it, criminals don't think they'll get caught at all, so a stiffer sentence may not deter all of them), it will still take the **#!!??!*s who choose to use guns off our streets for a good, long time. We'll be safer and their pals will sooner or later start to get the message.
This is an effective step that we can take politically. Both political sides would actually – maybe even eagerly – go for it.
I call it "The Plus-15" idea. It says what it's about and it's easy to remember.
There are a few simple things you can consider as a GM when you begin to organize and
plan your game that will keep you from finding yourself in the sticky situation I
found myself in all those years ago. The Diablo 3 site released this official FAQ regarding the

this is a very important sign in the Chinese horoscope, it may affect your destiny, helps you to find your fated friends,
opponents, and maybe even your special someone.
