READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
On the heels of a denied White House petition to have the host deported, this evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" returns with a live program, continuing its coverage of the "Guns in America" issue.
As part of a show that promises to be both honest and insightful, tonight Piers Morgan welcomes the return of a Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America.
Roughly three weeks ago Pratt made his initial appearance, debating the host in a segment that was equal parts contentious and combative, with both men passionately making their respective cases.
Revisit Pratt's argument that "evil's in our hearts. Not in the guns," then tune in tonight at 9 for another live edition of a program that will focus on a topic paramount to the future of America.

Mr. Morgan now says handguns for home defense are OK; it's only the 'military' weapons and high cap mags that should be banned (for now). This same strategy was used quite effectively during the early 20th century culminating in the Volstead Act of 1919. Considering how our 2nd Amendment rights have been methodically and systematically chipped away in the last half century by the insatiable left; it's only a matter of time before full prohibition is a reality. Fool me twice Piers; shame on me!
are u guys all insane?? i live in austria, europe, ...probably most of u guys don't even know where that is... and think about that for a second before judging about even carrying a gun...how on earth, apart from all that 2nd amendment sh.., can an adult human being feel good about the fact of having a gun ( semi automatic ar what the f... ever) in her/her surrounding???? this is a mass murder weapon comparable to an a-bomb ...are u kidding me?? all over mid-europe we don't even have an eight the numer of murders by guns...ordinary guns...and i don't even talk about those AR killing machines....think about that...
Austria? Yes where Hitler is from.....you people killed 6 billion people.....
Did you just compare an AR15 to an A-bomb. Your hyperbole is funny. Stay in Austria.
The primary reason for citizens to own military-style fire arms is so that they can defend themselves against their own government. The text of the 2nd Amendment ITSELF gives this justification. It reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a FREE STATE, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." (Emphasis added). In other words, the right of the people to own firearms is so that they can defend themselves against GOVERNMENT TYRANNY and stay free – not so they can go hunting or defend themselves against the occasional criminal (although those are added benefits). When guns are taken away from citizens the people suffer greatly because they can no longer defend themselves when their government goes too far. Let’s not forget that Germany, Russia, China, Cambodia, and Turkey (among others) murdered millions of their own citizens after disarming them. And for those of you wondering: a "well regulated militia" was understood in 1790 to mean properly equipped citizens with privately owned firearms – not to be confused with the National Guard we have today which is an integral component of the US Army Reserve system. Unlike the National Guard, the militia cannot be sent overseas. Also, for those of you that claim that citizens with assault rifles could never defeat our military: you forget that our military contains many freedom loving individuals who would not follow unreasonable orders, who would defect, and who would join the movement to maintain our freedoms if there was ever a power grab by the federal government. There wouldn’t just be one individual – there would be many including individuals already in the military. So it wouldn’t just be assault rifles against the entire military – it would be freedom loving citizens and freedom loving portions of the military against the portions of the military loyal to the fascist federal government. No doubt it would be chaotic and messy. Look at what is going in on in Syria for a current example of what it is like when citizens have to fight their own government for their rights. Hopefully we can retain our rights through peaceful means, but with the gun grabbers out in full force right now and the dictator in chief threatening executive orders to “combat gun violence” it is not looking good. It’s like 1930s Germany all over again.
You are correct... This is a land where the insane control much of the agenda...my father was a career American soldier who was in both WW2 and Korea and he would not allow a gun in his house and yet our country is filled with boneheads who are armed to the teeth pretending they are a Militia... The nuts are running the asylum! Help!
That just isn't true. You think if no one has a gun you will be safer? You think that no one will be able to hurt you or your family because they don't have guns? The issue is that bad guys are less inhibited knowing that you don't have a gun. The odds of you having a confrontation are higher in a world that protects the bad guy from getting hurt and makes the bad buy much bolder about approaching you. Women are viewed weak in a world without guns. Not so these days.
you all are insane the real crime is this show
you stupid ass, our home state of Pa. has a yearly hunting season, sells license, and has hunter safety courses, on how to use guns
As another outsider (from Australia – not Austria) I have to agree. But it is time to call this for what it is: self-interest from a large profit making industry. The "more guns = less murder" line is like the tobacco inductry encouraging more smoking because smoke kills cancers! Or the liquor industry encouraging drinking since alcoholism is more painless if you're drunk! Each industry exists to make more profit but gives out arguments of social "good" – like the guns sellers care about people dieing from guns, and the cigarette sellers care about people dieing from cancer, and the liquor sellers care about people dieing from alcohol. Get real and stop debating with self-interested parties who want to win the game: "the richest guy in the cemetry wins". There is a whole lot wrong with America.
These are the people we have to put up with everyday in this country: Half-wit, uneducated, IQ in the mid-double digits, and so self-conscious, they put their value in how big a 'gun' they have. It's truly Freudian.
The worst part is, their lobbying groups can buy elections. Therein lies the real problem.
These fools think there is going to be some sort of (as they put it "gubberment" take over; and when that day comes, they are going to shoot down all the technology weapons with their assault weapons. Very few of them ever serve in the military. (Roughly 10% of the US population has military experience and that includes reserves.) Of those who have served, less than 3% ever fight. So put enough action movies and combat video games into their (limited in the first place due to our declined educational systems) minds and you have a class of morons who think they are all John Wayne and they are going have their own revolution. (You should read up on Texas. Those people truly believe they are a separate nation. The pledge allegiance to Texas, not the US.) They think they still live in the wild west. Little boys in matured bodies.
So I have to say, good luck in getting them to understand you.
I spent a week in Munich and visited Salzburg. You have a beautiful country. I also spoke with a few Germans in Munich at the beer gardens. One of them (a racist one obviously) said that Austrians are like the redneck southerners in the US and are a very stupid people. Maybe if you would arm yourselves you wouldn't get overrun by foreign governments in about a week's time next time one is out to get you. Did your ancestors enjoy having the swastika flying over the capital? Europe is decaying and the original people's are dying out, and we sure as heck want to avoid that same path.
Maybe you should look at the country that has remained probably one of the safest countries in the past century, Switzerland.
some countries have a civilized society, compare the us death rate from guns to the swiss. So blind. Remember the mother happy go lucky 300k income with a kid that couldn't grow up. She hung arround with the gun slingers and bought many guns and it is odvious they taught her well. case closed, nra. You are worse then drunk drivers compare those numbers
Why do you so underestimate the intelligence of Americans? Are we so limited in our rationale and sense of reasonability that we can only live in a society that is based on "all or nothing" mindset? Violence is what Americans are disgusted and outraged about, and assault weapons (not guns) have become a catalyst to such mass violence. If you see that you can not see the reason and sense in banning assault weapons over your right to own such weapons of mass destruction, then you live in an America that is totally foreign to me. In my America, we, the people are more important and wise then any imaginary concepts or threats. We also have common sense. Believe in America, and trust the people. We are sick and tired of senseless violence and death facilitated by the idiotic availability of assault weapons. By the way, how come the gun proponents have zero sense of responsibility in making such weapons so easily accessible to unstable citizens?
PRATT IS A LIAR
Morgan has his facts validated: use your internet check out UK Government + Home office + statistics + murder rate This from the UK Govermant statistics: 'There were 41 shooting homicide victims in 2009/10 compared with 38 in 2008/09'.
Statisic study by: Kathryn Coleman, Simon Eder and Kevin Smith
There were 619 deaths currently recorded as homicide in England and Wales in 2009/10 as
at 28 September 2010, the date that the Homicide Index database was ‘frozen’ so that
analysis could be conducted. This is a decrease of four per cent (25 homicides) compared
• The 619 offences currently recorded as homicide in 2009/10 represent the lowest number
since 1997/98, when 606 were recorded.
• Overall, the risk of being a victim of homicide was 11 offences per million population.
• In 2009/10, as in previous years, more than two-thirds of homicide victims (68%) were

per cent of homicides involved a sharp instrument, although the number of such offences
fell, from 255 in 2008/09 to 210 in 2009/10.
• There were 41 shooting homicide victims in 2009/10 compared with 38 in 2008/09.
• Female victims were more likely to be killed by someone they knew. Around threequarters

• Three-quarters (75%) of victims aged under 16 knew the main suspect.
whoo...the hitler thing...sure...thats a way to adress the problem..or my post...very adult like..and to the other post...u still don't get it...just ban all guns ( apart from policemen, hunters etc. etc...) ...ever thought about that???....and then ... SURPRISE!!!.....i bet your kids will have the chance to grow adult....isn't that what we all would wish ????..........or don't you......
Actually Tom it isn't up to us. The government sets the guidelines for gun ownership and also does the background checks. Banning a device that kills a few hundred people a year out of millions is circulation is crazy to me. More homicides are committed by people using blunt objects, fists and feet, and knives than all rifles homicides combined. Hand guns account for most of the homicides by gun not rifles and certainly not what you would consider an "assault weapon".
Piers Morgan is a subverter. We need people to defend our rights.
THEN I GUESS YOUR ONE OF THE NUTS THAT NEED TO BE IN THE NUT HOUSE
Name calling is for adolescents. Stick to the issues. Sensitive liberals cling to obtuse ideologies.
Subvert ~ verb (used with object)
1. to overthrow (something established or existing).
2. to cause the downfall, ruin, or destruction of.
3. to undermine the principles of; corrupt.
"Your rights"???? Are they just "YOUR" rights? Morgan has the same rights. It's called the First Amendment.
You can't omit any one of them; so stop this non-sensical argument. Morgan is well within his rights. Are you suggesting that because you don't like what he says, you have the right to take his rights away?
Now that I would call adolescent.
Actually, First Amendment protection does NOT apply to foreigners like Piers "Morgan" O'Meara.
no body has the right to slaughter therefor limit their chances. If your going to put guns in schools then someone has a responsibility to cloth these kids in bullet proof suits and who pays for it.
Obama is paying 30 k each to place his two daughters in a private school which has 11 armed security officers. That's on top of the armed security we the people pay to protect his daughters. Guess he is for armed guards at schools in spite of what he says.
There too many consequences about this option. This people from the NRA are insane.
They offer options without thinking.
Don’t bring up the NRA. Those guys are even publicly saying they have the house and can block anything so it doesn’t matter. That is why they are so smug on TV. I think the gun control most people are talking about will not work, but I really don’t like these guys from the NRA.
They are the ones that suggested; arm the teachers with a gun. They are only for the money,
They don’t care about anything else.
Jose, I agree. The NRA’s suggestion to arm all the teachers was ridiculous.
After a mass shooting in a school in Israel, they armed the teachers, and there hasn't been once since.
Israel armed their teachers after a mass shooting, and there haven't been any other school shootings since.
America is not Isreal
Its about freedoms we have fought for. How many thousands want into the US everyday. How many want into UK? Whats the fastest speed limit in the US? 75,80. My buddy has a porsche 911 turbo, top speed 202mph. Piers would argue "why in the hell would anyone need a car that fast". Gun owners agree that weapons can kill, but were passionate for them because its a freedom. Why do you need a "Bushmaster .223" "Because I can" and it those freedoms our forefathers wrote, our ancestry fought for. The government yes can do better to keep the guns from criminals, so attack them not us. I own guns, and they have never taken a life, including my "Bushmaster .223" "LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE" (FREEDOM)
your freedom ends where the freedom of another one starts...simple as that....mr. 'i compare a fu.. porsche to a semi automatic riffle'.......pfff
Alex, your logic is funny. Gun's don't infringe freedom, they secure liberty for the people. Murder is what infringes freedom, and that is already illegal.
Agreed, my father joined the U.S. Army when he was just 16, lied about his age as did many Kentucky home boys back in the day. I really have to wonder if I was talking to a Policeman in Britain and said the words "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and are endowd by their creator with certain inalieable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" ,,,we he laugh in my face, or hit me with that little billy club britains cops carry?
Peirs, I'm a fellow Limey. My opinions when I first arrived in the US concerning guns were similar to yours now. I have been here since 1985, I am a retired infantryman, USMC and US Army/Guard. I own two weapons, a 1942 Lee Enfield rifle purchased about fifteen years ago and a forty calibre pistol bought 2 months ago. I would like to purchase an AR 15 but it looks like I'm going to be too late. So why the change of heart? Simple, criminals won't be turning in any of their weapons, and as long as they are armed I want to be. What's the need for military style weapons and 30 round magazines? Same answer. As a soldier I have learned the value of the principe of overwhelming firepower, IF I ever find myself in a gunfight I don't want to equalize my opponent, I want to have superior fire power. Having said that if we can figure out how to get ALL the guns out of everybody's hands I would be ok with it. Gun control is only part of the answer to nuts who want to kill groups of people. It has become a style to go to a public place and take out an individuals anger at whatever by killing as many people as possible. I am not a member of the NRA or any other such organization. My pistol is just a tool, my rifle an antique, my AR another tool I would like to have in my tool box.
I believe that to protect our schools and other public venues we have to look at more tha just gun control. Schools can be built in a manner that entry is controlled, and entry through abnormal entry points prevented altogether. Current buildings can be retrofitted, no I don't know where the money would come from. Mental health is a huge part of this problem.
Last thought, Obama scares the hell out of me. I have no idea where he is taking us but I don't believe it's good.
Well, said, Alan, from another limey, particularly on the last sentence. Unfortunately, there is no place else to go......
The U.S. government ought to make laws targeted specifically at law violators and not at law abiding citizens of this nation. There is nothing to fear from law abiding citizens. When laws are made that ban or prohibit certain types of weapons, the only people obeying these laws are law abiding citizens. Only criminals, drug dealers, terrorists and those who are affluent end up with the banned weapons. The current president's children probably attend school guarded by the secret service armed with the true assault weapons, fully automatic sub-machine guns, eguipped with high capacity ammo clips. Not that I object to it, but we, ordinary citizens should have our children protected to the max too. We shouldn't make laws that affect, disarm law abiding Americans. Make laws instead target criminals. That's why when these things happen (mass killings) innocent people were sitting ducks.
take a look above the 49th parallell. Gun laws and an example of when someone went nuts on a neighborhood block party. Killed 2 and wounded many. If he had an AK wow were so lucky we have our gun laws. And I will mention the guns of such events (drug related are brought up over the border. Thanks America as we try to protect our selves from your cancer and guyes like prattt that want to spread the desease. It is time to KILL the cancer.
What does an AK have to do with anything? Any semi-automatic weapon with a large capacity clip doesn't the same thing. If we will quit talking about specific weapons and stay on topic of what enables the weapon to deliver such mass casualties, we might get somewhere. If we keep saying things like assault weapon or military style weapon, we are not really talking about the problem. My 30.06 won two world wars and no one wants to ban it.
Referring to logic as a disease is ridiculous. Yes, the U.S.A has had way too many guns put in circuloation, and now there is NOTHING THEY CAN DO to stop them from being used. The only thing that they can do to keep MORE people from being killed is to let them be able to defend themselves. I for one would rather have the small chance to have to defend myself with a quality weapon than live in a police state ed my people like you and Piers. name calling isnt the answer, but your answer really doent work either. Ever notice how nobody who thinks that there shuld be more regulations has arguments that arent indescernable numbers? I hope that you and others can see that Piers is full of crap numbers and other optimistic idealist ideas.
Your everyday friendly Canadain.
I belive I am not alone on this, we as a whole not just Americans can see the long train of abuses and links between the past events. I am one man who will stand for freedom even for the ones who beg to be disarmed. here is a quote that my fellow patriots can relate to,
“In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, For then it costs nothing to be a Patriot.” Mark Twain
love and light, freedom for all man Love America and Fix her....
okay...im a gun collector and enthusiast ( i dont hunt; i shoot paper and clay targets) and i have my CHL. NO one is taking my weapons away from me. That said, since when does an Englishman not have the right in the USA to speak his mind? Dont like what he has to say? Debate with a cool head, and dont blow up..... or else turn off Mr. Morgan's show. WHAT ARE WE, THE TALIBAN? We dont like what Mr. Morgan has to say so well... lets execute him and burn his family?
Dont get me wrong I dont think his emotional ranting is entertaining and I have found him rude, but is he the only obnoxious talk show host? ( To be fair, he was quite eloquent with Ms. Boyle and Ms. Steisand)
He may be an Englishman but he is FREE TO SPEAK.
You are talking about 100 years ago! When the current technology was a Springfield rifle that had to be ejected after each shot. Get real. We are talking about Tech9's, and similar weapons. No one needs a machine gun, whether auto or semi-auto.
The NRA wants to arm the teachers with a gun?
How great the teachers will have a gun to protect their student. Something comes to mine,
What is one of this student get a hold of the gun and start shutting? AHHH: So the teacher
will not have the gun loaded. Why didn’t you tell me this before? The teacher will have the bullets in her/his purse or pocket. Wow, that is more like it. Now I’m relaxed. Wow!!!!!.
UPS, So if someone with an automatic weapon comes in to the room, the teacher can tell this sick person, hold on let me load up my gun. And this sick person give the teacher time to load up his/her gun and shuts at him and over.
Every one lives happy ever after.
We should just have sleeping gas flood the hall when the school goes on lock down. Lights out for everyone. Police come in with gas mask and get the bad guy before vending the hallways. How about stun guns? The idea of teachers having guns to protect from something that has the odds of lightning hitting them doesn’t seem like a good idea.
use dones to patrol the schools and use the drones if needed to take something or someone down. Only the bad guy gets killed or an idiot that enters the drone zone with any sort of weapon.
That gives a whole new meaning to "big brother".
You are not only an old sodier, but also an old fart! Would like to know what state you're in. It would give me a better idea of the mentality of people living there.. Are you a red neck with old conservative values and meet with the good ol' boys at the neighborhood diner in the morning and neighborhood bar at night? What are you afraid of and why do you feel so threatened? Times have changed old soldier...as McArthur stated: Old soldiers never die. They just fade away....please do that...fade away gently!
I am so thankful to Mr. Morgan for standing up for what he believes. Im so proud to be living in Canada, a Country that does have guns laws. Most guns that are in this country killing people here are here through the U.S. I feel so sad for people with whom Mr. Morgan has spoken to who honestly think that the way to solve the issue is to push back with more guns... I really think many Americans think they live in a country that others are jealous of. We actually laugh at them often and more so feel very sad for them that they do not know what is going on outside their own borders.
Keep up with the truth Mr. Morgan.
why don't you have a tv show in England? Why are you over here? Americans could care less about your opinion. If you don't like guns, I believe your country has a ban, go home.
Unfortunately he's a paid shill for Soetoro-Obama regime. We'll just have to deal with him but I do like your point.
I agree, I think Mr Morgan needs to go home and clean up the United Kingdom, before worrying about the United States.
Clean up the UK? Leave America along? Whaaaat???
Thats like comparing sweeping a floor to cleaning a million mega cesspools. The ol USofA is WRONG and desperatly needs a thorough rimming out beginning with the insane NRA members.
It's just all so sad.
I thank God every day that I am Canadian.
that is one of the best truths i have seen on this web page... nice job
I agree, those people that wants to change america are the ones that are endangering us. They, should just leave our country in peace and stop worrying about us. . These people disgust me and makes me sick. I would never give up my rights because of someone thinking how i should live. Screw you liberals who thinks they know it all can just go to hell.
Ur wrong about that! I care very much and I welcome Piers' opinion and compassion for this very issue. he speaks for those of us who otherwise cannot b heard.
Morgan always gets crazy wingers to make his gun arguments against...otherwise any sane American gun owner could shoot down his argument in a minute.
Speak for yourself. I care about his opinion. Do not generalize.
I don't care about his opinion. He's just an actor...you do realize that....right?
cheers to Piers Morgan! The more he exposes the pro gun folks for their insane view points the the sooner we'll get meaningful legislation on gun control
And who are YOU Mark R. - a nobody!
Piers Morgan was right about gun murders in England @ Wales! It was 39!!! Larry Pratt is a accident waiting to happen!!!!!!
Piers Morgan has argued himself into a corner and cant get out. Idiot
Yes, but the stupid people in the world who think hiding guns will solve everything outnumber us. This is a problem.
Your everyday friendly Canadian.
Its amazes me i own every type of gun that i can own by law and not one of them has been accused of committing a crime people wake up its not the gun that commits the crime its the idiots that have them simple way to solve 90 percent of the crimes enforce the laws on the books. Why make a law and not enforce them. and for peirs moron it sounds like his country is a good place to live why is he in a country that is so terrible i will be more then happy to buy him a one way ticket in case he can't afford one.
If you feel so threatened in this country and it is a terrible country go home
Piers is a ignorant fool. In the USA we have the right to bear arms. Deal with it or go back to ENGLAND.
at lest he'd be safer there! Who's the real idiot here? Someone alive or someone dead?
American are locked in the 17 th century..they need not worry about the muslems getting them ,..they are doing it to themselves
Hello everyone has a opinion here is mine. To many innocent Children died. Do you remember there names. No thought not. I'm sure you respond that Im crazy. I have no clue hello but I do. You hide to have more and more guns to live in your paranoia. Oh my the end is coming lmaoay
Imaoay??? Write in english please!
Avielle, Caroline, Noah, Ana, Charlotte, Daniel, Emilie, Jack, Jesse, Josephine, Dawn, Rachel, Victoria, Mary, Olivia, Lauren, Jessica, James, Grace, Dylan, Chase, Catherine, Benjamin, Anne Marie,
Its is sad about all those children but what if for the sake of agrument that the teacher was armed and properly trained to use that weapon and was able to save some or all those children would the argument would be different mam with all due respect if they banded these weapons the only people that would be without them would be the law abiding citizens if you want a gun bad enough money talks if the laws on the books today was enforced crime would go down and this would be a better world to live in
What is so said is that our goverment is talking about banning these weapons but this is the same gov that lost a huge amount of automatic weapons in mexico and they have been used against the mexican citizens and have killed american border patrols but no body is allowed to question them about it so who is being responsible here lets be fair when its come to being responsible those guns would not have killed anyone if some one would have been responsible (our gov)
It is very sad that innocent children were murdered by a lunatic with a gun, but there are many occurrences of people protecting themselves and their families with a gun that never make the news. It is not reported because it does not go with the liberal point of view. The day that those twenty innocent lives were snuffed out there were over three thousand innocent babies aborted, but that will never be said on the Piers Morgan show.
Mr. Morgan...Go back to England where you belong!! I don't know how or why CNN hired you as most Americans cannot stand you and your poor English (American) dialect.
Your comment is completely grammatically incorrect unless you do really mean that Americans couldn't care more about Piers as opposed to couldn't care less.
Morgan is a rude know it all ass. He likes to interrupt those who start making sense of gun rights, but makes them listen to his false lies and ideas. If you don't agree with him then you must not care for human life in his opinion and are also called a liar ! I will NEVER WATCH his show again!!!
J.D. I make it a habit to listen to those I may disagree with. That way I know what 'the otherside' is up to. If you only talk or listen to those you agree with all you do is pat each other on the back while missing the other opinions.
So don't listen....I happen to be able to understand Piers because I don't live in an area where everyone is the same, and I enjoy his questioning approach.
I disagree....I want to hear what he has to say.
I only want to hear what he says so I can see how much more idiotic he gets.
Your everyday, friendly canadian.
You are insulting America by your rubbish and insensitive remarks and not "love America".
Alex Jones was right about Piers. He fled here. You too can look at this information if you so choose. He published fake photos of the Iraq war while he was editor in chief of the Daily Mirror, a British tabloid rag. He was fired. He was also charged for hacking celebrities phones. Piers Morgan is a known liar and yet people still believe his nonsense.
just above the 49th we inforce gun laws which limit the wako's chances of such easy slaughter. Wake up America you are becoming a sick society. Remember your mighty weapon may protect you from a bullet through the forhead but won't stop a bullet in the back of your head. Best of luck is all I can say.
So the NRA's vision of America is one in which armed parents leave their armed homes to take their kids in a armed car to the armed school, after which they go to work at a armed office or shop.
Finally, I understand the thinking of the National Rifle Assn.: It wants to put armed guards in all schools to protect us from the people it is protecting, when what we really need is protection against them.
I find it interesting that the NRA's position is that everyone else has to change; it doesn't have to do anything.
Maybe NRA Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre was right, but he didn't go far enough.
We may not only need armed guards at every school but also at every movie theater ; in every house of worship (gunman kills six at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin); at every McDonald's ; at every International House of Pancakes (four killed at a Carson City, Nev., IHOP); at every hair and nail salon (gunman kills eight at a hair salon in Seal Beach); at every nursing home (eight killed at a nursing home in North Carolina); and at every post office (gunman kills 14 in an Oklahoma post office in 1986; gunman kills four in a Michigan post office in 1991; gunman kills six at a California postal processing center in 2006).
Don't need armed guards just a few armed patrons/ business owners/
what we need is to get all guns out of everyone's hands except law enforcement and military.
Juan, back when a bunch of college kids at Kent State were having a peaceful demonstration against the Vietnam war, our own country brought in the National Guard and started shooting them. American kids. Dead by our own govt. THAT'S why we have the 2nd amendment.
get all guns out of everyone's hands except law enforcement and military is the answers
All I can hope is that the patriot doesn't turn arround AT THE WRONG TIME AND GETS SHOT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. it basicly boils down to a 50/50 battle using legal weapons the more guns the higher the chance. Wake up. guns has not worked in any war but setting the guns aside has.
way to take something out of context. The mindset of most nra and responsible gun owners is to have it present in the mind of anyone who would want to do harm to someone that i better think twice b/c the odds are that person mayb carrying a firearm. its a deteraint you know like when stores put up a sign that says these premiss is under survillence.
CNN and Piers Morgan should be charged with promoting domestic violence by Homeland Security! If I were to go on National TV and make comments that someone should shoot someone, I would be charged with promoting Domestic Terrorism. What kind of Journalism is it to be Pro Gun Control and then suggest murder and laugh about it? I know Alex Jones was ranting on the show, that is what Alex does and CNN knew that before they invited him on the show. That doesn't excuse CNN from allowing their guests to suggest Murder and then sit around and laugh about it. You people are insane as much as the people pulling the triggers.
I think Piers Morgan needs to fired by CNN, his insultive nature to those who don't agree with his view point are evident in his interviews. Several reporters for CNN kept talking about the 100 round AR-15 magazines, which don't exist, and the 30 round magazines will not stay in the magazine gun well with 30 rounds, they will not seat, and will only work properly with 28 rounds. He also made reference to firing 100 rounds in less than a minute with the AR-15 semi-automatic weapon, Unless you are highly trained with the AR-15, with years of experience, this is not possible. You should have researched the information before making all of these claims, your reporters clearly didn't know what they were talking about.
I agree CNN should fire him. He is not a good interviewer. He asks a question and does not have the guts tolet the guest reply.
Mr. Pratt gave him a good run for his money. How does he get anyone to agree to be on the show.
You, sir.... are a friggin moron.
I couldn't agree with you more,Mickey! Just add it to the list of why persons of integrity never follow anything from CNN.
CNN you seem to be trying to get a following for Piers by letting him antagonize devout americans. I can't believe what I thought to be a respected news source would use such a controversial issue to get ratings. Plus the man you chose is not only not suited to discuss this topic but also an unprofessional, pompous ass. Do you understand that this reflects on CNN poorly? All the more reason for me to change my source for news.
Your opinion. I enjoy Piers, and perhaps someone from another country just might bring up different perspectives. Where is the group that supports gun bans... I want to join them.
being above the 49th para I view and picture the fact that once everyone carries a gun no matter who you kill you claim self defence. Have fun America but keep your guns below the 49th, thank you
I applaude Piers Morgan for his stand on gun control way to go Piers. i'm behind you 500%!!!
Amen sister!!! That show was infuriating to say the least!! What an idiot!!! Alex Jones is exactly the type of person who doesn't need to own any gun much less an assault rifle!! Then he has to go off on a completely unrelated topic (Piers' citizenship) because he doesn't want to answer any questions!! Typical of anyone I've ever known who can't see the insanity in having access to that type of weapon. sigh...
Thank u Barb for standing up for those of us who want to see a change in our gun control policy and for standing behind Mr. Morgan. I too stand firmly behind him and his passion for putting an end to gun violence.
I would like Piers to ask any of his gun-loving guests to name *SPECIFIC* instances in the last 30 years where, in fact, an armed citizen did, in fact, cut short an otherwise mass-shooting. I seriously doubt that any such instances actually exist, and if they do, the numbers will be dramatically smaller than the total number of massacres...
The most recent example would be the Portland, OR mall incident last month wherein an armed civilian confronted the shooter (without firing) causing the shooter to cut short his murder spree and take his own life. Do a little research before putting your ignorance on display for all to see.
I have seen several lists of specific gunmen who stopped mass shootings. One in particular was the one in the mall in Oregon where a young man didn't notice the no gun zone sign on the door of the mall and had his concealed carry with him. After the mass murderer shot two people, he noticed the young man had him in his sight lines. That's when the mass shooter turned his gun on himself. The concealed carry guy was a local hero, but the media didn't pick it up because it didn't match their narrative of trying to get guns banned.
I am licensed and carry a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P9 with "one in the chamber" and no safety everyday everywhere. An armed gunmen is one of the few things that stops an armed gunmen. If SHTF I'm not waiting for a uniformed armed gunman to show up to stop the insane armed gunmen. I am a law abiding armed gunman...which should never be feared.
When someone is in your house call 911 see if you survive by the time they get their. Not.
Ask Larry Pratt where the teachers are going to hide their semi-automatics? Wow, what are we teaching our children. They will only learn to focus on arming themselves and killing others, not getting to the root of the social problems and healing a nation, which is so very needed.
I agree. Piers should stay on this full throttle until something meaningful gets done better yet ,show the face of all the people shot dead since Sandy Hook
Has it ever crossed your mind that possibly one of the reasons the US has never been invaded by a foreign country is because foreign countries know that there are millions of guns in the hands of our citizens? Has it ever occurred to you that we may need our guns to protect ourselves from our own government?
German Firearms Act of 1937:
"No civilian is to have a firearm without a permit and permits will not be issued to [persons] suspected of acting against the state. For Jews this permission will not be granted. Those people who do not require permission to purchase or carry weapons [include] the whole SS and SA, including the Death's Head group and officers of the Hitler Youth." [Kates, Restricting Handguns pg. 185, 1979]
Gun control isn't going to fix the crime rate. In fact, the crime rate will go up because there are Americans that will not surrender their weapons.
Congrats on winning against the idiots that wanted you deported Piers.
If Alex Jones' performance doesn't convince you we need tougher gun control legislation, then maybe the painting "Brought To You By The NRA" better serves as the iconic reminder of the need for tougher gun control legislation. http://www.artandresponse.com/paintings/brought-to-you-by-the-nra.html
Not a fan of Alex Jones or the NRA, but the media has just as much blame for Newton as anyone. Let’s face it, but control isn't going to work. Crime rates are bad even in Britain and guns don't create crime. Anyone that doesn't recognize that we live in a violent world and feels that being disarmed is going to make the violence go away is living in a fantasy. The world is violent and people do harm to other people. Why would you not be prepared to defend yourself from the world around you?
I don't know where or how to comment on this gun debate. All I hear are the 2nd amendment rights of the gun fanatics. Does anyone ever think of the rights of those children and in the Aurora theater not to die. What amendment does their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness fall under?? They had no rights at all! Sabra Brea. Miami,Fla
You are so right and what happened in Newtown has many gun owners looking into a solution. I don't think we are seeing much help from the NRA folks, but real American gun owners are starting to think about what is reasonable for the first time. It really doesn't matter what Oboma does or even congress because over time they still have to fall into line with the will of the people. Sure, they can do a lot of stupid laws for show, but in the end, the will of the people will put people in congress and the house that will do something right. No one wants to see any more of these mass shootings, and educated gun owners are the ones to really solve the problem. Hear that NRA?
Let's see if self-righteous Piers is civil to Mr. Pratt this week. Funny how Piers played the victim following the interview with Alex Jones but comes out today as a macho killer, laughing heartily at the suggestion he "pop" Jones with a gun.
We are a little miffed at Piers not being honest with his role in the answer machine tapping scandal but we are also very concerned with the gun fringe element that wants to deport him and other people based on their beliefs that gun reduction will lead to less gun violence. Its obvious that Piers has gone all in on the gun issue and that his supposed "friends of the show" have not come to his side. Why have Piers and the show's producers not provided speakers from other nations that have adopted gun legislation and had significant success?
Piers lost it. Piers was very light on the facts. He also showed is ignorance of guns. The insults he tossed out fell flat. The Pratt fellow had the facts and logic. Emotion and insults do not serve Piers well. I am in favor of collecting all guns. But, we no longer have that option. We can work together on many levels to quell gun violence. But, not the way Piers goes about it. I was very mortified for him. Where did CNN get this guy? He has a certain air, I admit. But, his veneer of charm, wit and intelligence soon wears away. I think it's time he is replaced. Velshi is my choice!
Piers, all those names you thought of calling Alex while he railroaded all his points? Now you know how you look when you do it to your pro gun guests. Oh, you think you aren't as unhinged? You are. In your British way, but just as domineering and rude. When you then tried to discredit him by turning the topic by letting us see he is a whacky truther? Well, so is half the left like Michael Moore. Who cares if he is right or wrong about that. He is right about our 2nd amendment. It says the militia is regulated–not our arms.
Dear Mr. Morgan, The NRA has taken the position that arming teachers is a desirable answer to protecting students. Please ask Mr. Pratt is the NRA is willing to forever pay the legal defense of every teacher in the future should this become a reality. If the precedent is set that armed teachers are expected to protect students, then any teacher who attempts to do so in another siege and fails to successfully prevent any & all injuries (or deaths) to EVERY student will be quickly villified. Lawyers will be quickly on hand to sue both them and the school districts by every parent with an injured or dead child on the ground that they failed to adequately defend THEIR child. I doubt most teachers would be willing to step into such a "no-win" situation if they give this half a thought.
Piers, you are doing a great job, but I think there are two different issues. The first is the size of the weapon which may or may not make any real difference in the number of gun related deaths. Most gun deaths are not the result of these weapons. The second is having the legal owner of the gun responsible for illegal use of it. I could be wrong, but if you were responsible for any crimes committed with your gun, you would probably be more careful about who had access to it. I don't have a problem with someone owning dozens of guns, but if someone else gets access to them and uses them in a crime I want to be able to come after the irresponsible owner.
In the case of Newton. The owner of the firearms was found dead. So you cannot go after her.
True, but do you think she would have been more careful about having the guns and how they were secured?
The problem doesn't seem to be with legal gun owners which is why I think this debate is a bit silly. The problem is with people accessing other peoples guns... People use the car analogy all of the time drunk driving. The better one is if someone borrows your car, blows through a bunch of red light cameras then you are still responsible for the tickets. Your car, your ticket. Your gun, your crime...
If the AR 15 wasn't there in the first place, the shooting might still have occurred but not in this kind of magnitude. 20 kids?
hay Piers Moron the gun could be put ine a safe in the teachers desk
Why is Piers still in the country?
I for one want to thank you on your anti-gun position. Thanks to your own personal opinion and the way you use it to report the news, Wyoming has now passed a law that gives the National Goverment no control over that states laws concerning personal firearms. One should not only know but understand what they are to fight. I believe you thought you knew what you wanted to do but truly did not understand those you gave your opinion to. Long ago I gave my oath to defend and protect this country and the constution in which many if not all believe is great. I still believe in that oath and wyoming has taken the first step to preserve it.
Let's be clear: Great Britan banned guns and it is still the second most violent nation in Europe. Look it up.
Someone should drop Mr.Morgan off in the worst part of chicago or the worst part of detroit and see how long he could last? Bet you he probably wouldn't make it three blocks without getting mugged, stabbed, or shot. I'm sorry mr. morgan we don't live in a gated community like you do. these people who are committing these crimes are not playing by the same rules as everyone else is. these criminals are not getting semi automatic weapons from walmart, they are getting fully automatic weapons from the black market. so if that means i need a AR for protection then let it be. Also try telling the american people that live on the mexican border that they can not defend them selves if the violence escalates from mexico. Half the drug cartels have more fire power than some national guard units do in the U.S. . So Mr. Morgan stop telling the american people that the AR-15 is the reason for mass shootings and that they are evil and that the people that own these weapons are evil. that is not the case. get your facts straight before announcing it. Also please stop trying to compare your country to our country. there is no comparison.
I think therre would be a lot of happy people if Piers Morgan would go back to HIS native land. Please!!
I think it is a good British citizen Mr Morgan Piers. I do love newspaper the Sun. Yes, it is very at risk US politic crisis. Very dangerous gun they were kill peoples.
I like the fact the Morgan is making a stand. At least he is trying to do something. I am for gun rights but nobody or non military needs assault rifles. That is what Morgan is trying to convey. Not get rid of the right but to control the guns we can get. Why would anyone outside of the law and military need an assault rifle. Go Piers !!!
They said they need assault weapons in case the US government becomes a tyranny. A very absurd notion.
It's not about NEED, Brock. It's about our rights. The 2nd amendment says the right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed. Besides, a semi automatic rife is not a typical military rifle. Military rifles are mostly fully automatic. So if our govt ever decides we are a terrorist or something and comes after us with fully automatic guns, we are stuck defending ourselves with semi automatic guns. Already not a fair fight. And I guess you've never shot prairie dogs or beavers. An AR 15 is a great varmint rifle.
If the gov't decides you are a terrorist or something, you will be read your Miranda rights and you will have your day in court. You don't have the right to resist arrest only if you do will they go after you with automatic weapons.
The 2nd amendment does not specify what kind of arms we are allowed to bear. If you'll have it your way i bet you'll push for the grenade launcher or bazooka. The govt. has allowed us to own assault weapons but society did handle it with great responsibility. Now it's time to take it away. Let's be contented with our hand guns and hunting rifles.
Yes, RD, the 2nd amendment DOES specify what kind of arms we can have. ANY arm we can keep and bear. You might be able to therefore argue you can't have one that you can't physically transport. Otherwise, it specifically says the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE infringed.
Jan .. I have never shot an AR at anything but probably would have fun doing so. But with that said, I feel very secure that the govt will not accuse me of being a terrorist. I do not want rights taken away but I do want control on the type of guns being sold. I just do not see the a reason to shoot 100 rounds a minute and wether semi or fully automatic. If there are business allowed to let people shoot at "varmits" or targets ..great ..all for it. But I don't want any idiots to be able to get their hands on one and decide they are angry and let loose somewhere... If you are worried about the government coming to get you ...I can't help you there. you can join a militia !!
Did I mistype "varmints"? Yes, I have people in my life who use an AR 15 to shoot coyotes, prairie dogs, and other varmints. So Feinstein shows her ignorance when she says things like no hunter worth his salt would use an AR 15. I have no doubt any govt would ever deem you to be a terrorist. But I am pro Israel and a devout Christian. My type is now out of vogue. The other thing is I grow food. As witnessed by the recent hurricanes and subsequent break down of the grid, gangs can go around looting. I want a weapon that protects me from entire gangs.
If the law is changed to toughen gun control so be it.
Laws changes all the time and i believe it is a privilege to own a gun.Its a privilege to drive a car .
Just imangine in another 50 years if you don`t stop these assault weapons.Where does it stop(can i buy a bazooka)
It`s like freedomn of speech there are limitations to what you can say it`s not so and black and white
your just as stupid as piers morgan
Actually he is right on, 'cause there were idiots who turned in AT-4 rocket launchers during the gun buy in Los Angeles, so I am guessing you may be the STUPID one!
its pretty sad when a mass shooting occurs and kids are involved. This has been going on for the past twenty years and now mr morgan is outraged by it? please. how many kids have died in drive by shootings before newtown? lots. where were your comments then mr morgan? why the sudden out cry? how many people die of legally prescribed drugs each year mr. morgan? i don't have the numbers in front of me but i can tell you its a lot more than gun related deaths. where is your public out burst on that mr. morgan?
The 2nd amendment was drafted so we could defend ourselves from tyrannical goverments. How can people be so stupid and blind?
I proposed that the NRA provide armed security or funds for security to all Public schools in the U.S.
Piers, ask Mr Pratt that since it is a Federal law when hunting waterfoul the hunter must have a plug in his shtgun to limit 3 shells, but there is no limit to clip size if some "nut" goes out on a killing spree?
What a great interviewer Morgan is. Saying to your guest, "You're incredibly stupid, aren't you".
Piers Morgan is an entertainer. No more, no less. He has one goal; get ratings in order to gain more ad revenue for CNN. His 'hook' is to be grand and in your face. It's an act. As such, I could care less about his opinions. Remember the old CNN...the reporting from the first Gulf war...Bernard Shaw...
I miss the old CNN...when the news was news and not entertainment. What a shame that the network feels they have to have this type of personality on.
Mr Morgan if you don't see what's going on here your apart of it . You are always rude and so sure of your self . You don't hear the other side of there argument . Their are right now, people in the U.N an within the U.S government trying to take all guns, from every country not just the U.S. And this is so no one can resist tyranny. And we know your apart of the order!
What's going on...Freedom Fighter 911? Is that you imagine more than you know & know less than you can fathom!
I said it before on your blog...& now I'm saying it again; "Larry Pratt is a "Prat"!
Piers, keep up the good work.
Please people from the NRA are flaming idiots, such as Mr. Pratt, to compare anything happening in our country to Mexico.
What we need to look at as well, is State Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies who do not not destroy confiscated weapons, instead they sell them how is this so, a weapon that may have been used to commit a horrific crime is able to be sold and put back on the street, state;s I have found are Kentucky State police, the State of Missouri and Arizona. Which is of course all supported by the NRA, why is this happening, why are these guns not being destroyed?
the reason I need a ar and a 30 round clip is b/c my government has fully auto AR with a 30 round clip
You Sir have no idea what you are talking about!
Yes, he does know what he is talking about. That's why we have the 2nd amendment. We are free only if we have the same weapons as our govt. Unfortunately, we don't. Our govt has fully automated weapons and we can so far only get semi automatic ones.
If you don't trust your government, do yourself a favor and leave.
Are you kidding? To protect yourself from our Government. I bet you believe all the insane things you read on blogs and vote against your own interest TEA Party? "Taxed Enough Already" A total Joke Non Grass Roots BS Lie to get you to benefit Rich People and provide help to no one else. Taxes are the lowest in 60 years and only Uninformed Fools Believe otherwise. When I read the retarded fear-monger statements in this blog I am almost concerned about the future of mankind. Then I realize these are the idiots who will most certainly die by their own means and thus clean up the Gene Pool.
sorry did realize I was replying to your comment direct my bad. But the reason we compare things that happen in mexico is b/c alot of our actions in the US effect the people of mexico. We outlaw drugs but yet are the largest consumers of those illegal drugs giving power to drug cartels. How about operation fast and furious where task force agents walked weapons across the border. You search any guns that have been confiscated in mexico and you find that they were made in the us and many are even registered with doj. And I don't trust my government b/c it is no longer my government it has turned its back on it roots. I will not leave I was here first and will be here long after this molested constinutional republic fails. Thank you I would suggest that if you trust your government you should leave to were tyranny is the normal i.e china n.korea, u.k. mexico let me know how that works out for you
Pierce America is the laughing stock of the world ..no need to worry about the Moslems getting Americans ,they are killing themselves ...wake up America this is not the17th century
Dont Stop! Finish it!
Thank you Piers, for your efforts and your voice. This guy Larry Pratt is a liar. I cringe listening to him and the likes of him. Finally, when people write on this blog and cannot even spell properly or express themselves properly, it tells you what caliber of people we have here in America.
Why don't you accompany Mr. Morgan back to the UK? Perhaps you might find the caliber of people there more to your liking.
People are actually leaving America as a result of violence, it is getting ridiculous.
I hope you're never in a situation where some deranged person comes in shooting innocent people and you think dialing 911 will save you in time !
wish piers would stop pradeing alex jones around like he speaks for all liberty minded people
Well...Alex Jones thinks that he does!
Thank you for being our voice! These IDIOTS, like PRATT and JONES and a waste of space. we do not need assault weapons to defend and hunt.
Yes we do.
No... No... you don't. Get real! I come from a sport and hunting family background... never have any of our ancestors hunted with such weapons.
Sue, you may not have anyone in your extended family who hunts with AR 15s, but I have associates who do. They shoot varmints with them.
The AR-15 is actually a great hunting rifle.
The AR 15 is for shooting varmints: coyotes, prairie dogs, beavers. Feinstein was wrong when she said no hunter worth his salt would have a AR 15.
Why do you use a foreigner to debate something he has nothing to gain from. I sure we have an american broadcaster who needs a job?
What? Because he is an educated man and CNN feels he is the right person for the job. And obviously the ratings have and are there or he wouldn't be on air.
He is extremely respected in the industry. If you don't like it, don't watch it. You sound like a FOX news type anyways.
Morgan is an actor, an entertainer. Nothing more. His only goal is to get ratings for CNN. Higher ratings mean more ad revenue. More ad revenue means Morgan gets paid more.
You think he actually cares about this issue? Really?
Pratt lies, here is the number of gun deaths in England and Wales...
Larry Pratt cooking the numbers to defend himself
He is telling Unbelievable lies
Mr. Pratt is talking about the total number of homicides in the UK which were about 1000 in 2000 and have dropped to about 700 in 2009. That is still a overall homicide rate of less than 2.0 per 100,000 persons compared to the US which is at about 4.8 murders per 100,000 persons.
Would you please go back to the UK?
I think its the jews who make and sell the guns and wants you all to slaughter each other cause its working on the other side of the world. Beware they would love to take controll of america
What is truly sad is that this pompous ass gets an hour of time everyday that used to be slotted for Larry King. The focus of Larry's show was on the guest. Morgan's focus is on himself and his own agendas. His rhetoric is getting old
You don't have to watch him. Why would you listen to anyone who might have a viewpoint that is different from yours?
I think it is interesting and ironic that the owner of the guns used in the Sandy Hook school masacer was killed by her own guns. She defended her right to own guns; she died defending her right. How have many have died with their own firearms?
Keep up the GREAT work Piers!!! Pratt is another one of these Ted Nugent PUNKS. Either ever served a day in the Military. Nothing but Cowards
Oh and Piers did serve in our military? NO!! He hasn't served a single day in any military.
I guess people in Great Britain got tiered of listening to him so now he's over here.
you show your blindness, the eyes in the back of your head will not save you from a bullet
I Cannot understand why Piers is giving Larry Pratt airtime... WHY !!!!!
While I agree the less guns held by civilians the better, Piers Morgan is rude and self righteous to his guests that he doesn't agree with. He poses a question and then immediately says, " I want to jump in here" then proceeds to monopolize the conversation. He positively gushes over guests who agree with him. I turned it after 10 minutes tonight as that's exactly what he did. While I didn't agree with the guest he should be able to state his views without Piers being annoying. Cheryl, Canada
Mr. Pratt is not very encouraging to tourists if visiting the US are we expected to come armed???
Piers is such an idiot who loves to spread propaganda and convince the mass ignorant who fail to do their own research. He calls Pratt a liar for the murder numbers in Britain when they are correct. Britain has a very high crime rate. and this man who so easily calls others liars was fired from the Daily mirror for lying and Hoax look it up.
Piers is an egomaniac and incredibly rude. Who cares what his opinion is on anything...he's supposed to be an interviewer a la Larry King.
300 plus kids died in chicago last year and chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country
Good point and at the same time NH has one of the most relaxed guns laws and look at there crime rate. http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/nhcrime.htm
300 kids, how many kindergartners? Were 300 kids inside the school (safe Place)?
Piers Morgan is an IDIOT !!!! FIRE HIM ....... CNN is no longer credible by allowing this crap on their show. I'm done with CNN......
Agree Gator. Piers thinks this show is all about him. His ratings are horrid so he needs this kind of circus to stay on the air. I don't necessarily agree with this Prat fellow, but at least he's respectful.
It amazes me that CNN allows a Brit to carry on debate regarding American laws. Having lived in Europe for 10 years in the 1980's I can say first hand that the Red Army Faction and Red Brigades, as well as other terrorist organizations freely roamed Europe keeping the masses on edge. I bring this up because Piers makes his assertion about 'guns' and guns alone. What about all the bombings in Europe? People in America don't have the fear that Brits have every time they get on a bus or subway system. People kill people ..... it doesn't matter where you live in the world.
Oh before you go..."Goodbye"!
I cant believe you people take your news from a man who in his own country is under investigation for wire tapping
mr. morgan yiou state that in 30 years there have been 62 gun massacres.... how many people were killed as a result of a drunk driver? should we do car control? what about all the people that die from heart attacks every year? should we ban the "killer hearts?" the nazis did gun control in WWII and look what happened. what works in england wont work here. if alcohol doesnt kill people in a DWI case or cars in a car accident then guns dont kill people, people do. texas has the castle law were you are allowed to shoot an individual that is breaking into your house. this law extends to your car. less home invasions happen in texas prolly likely as people know that every one is armed. like wise car jackings dont happen for that matter. if you dont like guns, go back to america. maybe cnn should stop helping you get your work visa renewed. you sir need to get off your bandwagon and do some real reporting. you are nothing more then an arm chair general.
Big difference Car is moving object, there is no transportation world will come to halt
That is probably the wost argument I have ever heard. There are random checks put in place for drunk drivers, and not they don't always work, but your car laws are ten times tighter than your gun laws. As for heart attacks, if we had the technology, we would.
so now he will expliot the pain of people to further his agenda of disarming the american people
I don't own a gun and believe that we need some major gun control. That being said, Pierce Morgan is being totally obnoxious with his efforts here. Get him off the air please because NOBODY wants to watch him acting like the child he is. He belittles every guest that he has on. I would watch if he could be impartial but he simply cannot be.
Can Piers Morgan conduct an interview without talking over the guest? It is so annoying that I have to turn the channel.
Apparently, not only does Mr. Morgan want to do away with the 2nd amendentment he also wants to do away with our right to freely express ourselves. Notice how he tries to drown out those with different views.
Again, Piers, I feel it's a complete waste of air time to have these gun people on, and I am still hoping that you will change direction. Larry Pratt's outrageous comments about the British stats is an example of what I consider to be mental illness. You said he is lying, but he clearly believes what he is saying. How can this be described as anything other than mental illness? It simply makes no sense.
Regarding the British gun ban and the number of murders via guns. Even though the number of deaths caused by gun usage in America is higher than it is in Britian, what is the ratio of murders caused by guns to the number of gun owners? If nobody in Britian is permitted to own a gun then how did the gun deaths occur? to get an accurate comparison we would need to find the ratio of gun deaths to gun owners in order to determine the efficiency of a ban on guns.
Number of Murders by firearms, Britain, 2011*: 58
(equivalent to 290 US murders) ...Piers better get it correct himself
290 is still way way way less than 10000
Which part of air mass...did you pick that convenient number from?
Let me explain to Morgan what an assault rifle really is. Its JUST THE LARGE CAPACITY CLIPS YOU IDIOT !!!! Large caliber semi automatic hunting rifles have been around for over 100 years. I was around when you could buy guns (handguns & rifles) at Sears, gas stations, hardware stores, etc. The only requirement was you had to be 18 years old. There wasn't nearly as much crime then. Today's society breeds a few people who can't separate reality from fiction. They need HELP !
Can mr. Pratt answer when in his lifetime he used a firearm to defend himself? Better to know Kung fu or jujitsu for self defense... But lazy, unimaginative and ignorant people like Larry Pratt need a semi automatic weapon to feel safe.
I have done extensive research on this topic. There are 50 million people in England, on the census of 2011. On that same year, the amount of murders was 550, primarily not of guns, thats the total number. There were over 9000 in the United States JUST FROM GUNS. The population of the us is right around 350 million. Do the math, even if England had the same population, murders in general would be less than half that of gun murders in the United States. In England as gun laws tighten, gun crime goes down, not up. As gun laws in the States have become more lax, there have been more gun murders. I am Canadian, we have around 100 firearm murders per year, our population is 30 million, do the math. Our gun laws are more lax then the gun laws of England and we have more gun crime. Stop being ignorant, assault rifles are meant for assaulting not defending.
Have you looked at any stats from Switzerland or Austria? They promote RESPONSIBLE gun ownership, and actually encourage shooting as a sport and knowledge of firearms. According to CNBC Zurich, Switzerland and Vienna, Austria are the top two places to live in the world based on quality of life. Switzerland somehow has three cities on this list of best places to live WITHOUT the strangling gun laws....puzzling. Maybe the be all end all answer isn't some sweeping legislation banning guns but instead holding people RESPONSIBLE and promoting gun knowledge, training, etc....
I suggest you do some more research as to the true answer....
You sir came off as the stupid one piers.
The response back on the gun murders in the UK issue has also revolved around non-gun murders. The UK had less than 600 attempted murders in 2011, roughly 15%+ of them failed. About 10% of the total were gun murders. The argument that without guns people move on to other weapons would require an increase in non-gun murders. If the number of attempted murders in the UK was to be increased by the ratio that the US population is greater than the UK population, the number would be roughly 3,000 total attempted murders, with roughly 2,500 successful murders. Therefore, the total murder rate per capita in the UK from all forms is less than 1/10th that of the gun murder rate alone in the USA.
Piers Morgan is an idiot that should go back to where he came from. We don't need him pushing his beliefs on us. If he likes gun control and feels safer with gun control he should leave the US. You can't compare other countries muder rate just because of gun control. Other factors such as drugs, the economy, punishment, etc also affect this number. Get real and look at all factors involved in an equation before spouting off as Piers Morgan does..
I don't know why comparing stats from another country with a different culture helps the debate Piers. It's way too simplistic. If you don't convince everyone we need some control its going to be a fiasco.
What about the rights of people in this country that don't want to own a gun!!! Their rights are over if everyone has to live in a country where guns are the norm!
Thank you Linda for this position. There are plenty of other people out there who agree with us. We just need to be heard and have our rights supported as well.
Linda, My right to own a gun doesn't infringe on your right not to own a gun. You have been walking around guns you whole life and didn’t know it. None of them have jumped out and bit you. The idea that you may have a gun is a deterrent to criminals. Most criminals are thinking about this before they approach anyone. You may choose not to carry a gun, but the fact you can has been protecting you.
He is giving him airtime to show what a jack ass he is. lol
I loved at the ending when Peirs said "You are No friend of mine Sir" LOVE IT!
Ben Swann, a local Fox anchor for WXIX-TV, fact checks CNN host Piers Morgan’s gun claims"There were 12,664 homicides in the U.S. Of those 8,583 were caused by firearms,” he explained in a video posted on WXIX-TV’s web site. “But of those, 400 are listed as justifiable homicide by law enforcement — 260 justifiable homicide by private citizens.” Also, concerning the Newtown shootings, the AR15 was in the trunk of the car! Fact Check Piers Morgan!!!!!
Pratt does not speak for gun owners. As a gun owner and hunter I am fed up with the NRA and the Pratt types. We need sensible laws and enforcement now.
As a responsible gun owner, Mr Pratt perfectly reflects my beliefs. He is absolutely correct about his statements tonight and I applaud him for speaking so clearly about the real world we live in.
I think I need a tank and a rocket launcher to "protect" myself from my neighbor who may have an assault rifle. Where does this insanity end??
I am a gun owner. Pratt speaks for me. Except, as usual, he didn't get a chance to speak much. Piers was so eager to ridicule Alex from his earlier show when Alex dominated him (even though he was giving info–not insulting Piers), Piers does the same thing–just not as loud. Funny, we think if someone is loud, they are being rude. But tonight Piers took several pot shots and because he didn't say them loud, he gets a pass.
A complex issue. I suggest a back to work program for our soldiers. Tax the hell out of gun purchases – 500%. Use the proceeds to fund metal detractors and paying for arming trained personnel to protect our schools, malls and theaters. If people want guns. Let them have them but make 'em pay to guard the general public. This is such a ridiculous argument from unreasonable people thinking our society is like 1919 Germany that we should come up with ridiculous solutions such as a massive tax.
An onerous tax is an infringement. The 2nd amendment says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
I am an ex-M1A1 tanker that preformed his duty for 12.5 years, 8.5 years in europe guarding the borders against "the great red tide". I am insulted that a person I protected has the gaul to brodcast on puplic tv an say that his "ex-country" is so much better than the one he moved to. I have just one thing to say to him, "If it is so great where you came from then take your hiney back there! Get out of America and keep yor limey mouth shut! I would much rather have a "Thank You" for protecting my sorry passivast limey hiney: than to have you spout your communist drievel on public tv corupting the country you now call home! GO BAK TO ENGLAND YOU SORRY PANSY!
Great point! If not for your service, and those before you, Mr. Morgan might be speaking German right now. Thank god those Americans and their god awful gun came and saved your country Piers.
Here is what i found with Google.
The United Kingdom has a total recorded crime rate per capita of approximately 85 per 1000 people; the United States of America records approximately 80.
Since 1998, the number of people injured by firearms in England and Wales increased by 110% from 2,378 in 1998/99 to 5,001 in 2005/06. Most of the rise in injuries were in the category slight injuries from the non-air weapons. "Slight" in this context means an injury that was not classified as "serious" (i.e., did not require detention in hospital, did not involve fractures, concussion, severe general shock, penetration by a bullet or multiple shot wounds). In 2005/06, 87% of such injuries were defined as "slight," which includes the use of firearms as a threat only. In 2007, the British government was accused by Shadow Home Secretary David Davis of making "inaccurate and misleading" statements claiming that gun crime was falling, after official figures showed that gun-related killings and injuries recorded by police had risen more than fourfold since 1998, mainly due to a rise in non-fatal injuries. In 2007, Justice Minister Jack Straw told the BBC, "We are concerned that within the overall record, which is a good one, of crime going down in the last 10-11 years, the number of gun-related incidents has gone up. But it has now started to fall."
In 2008 The Independent reported that there were 42 gun-related deaths in Great Britain, a 20-year low. However, in late 2009 The Telegraph reported that gun crime had doubled in the last 10 years, with an increase in both firearms offences and deaths. A government spokesman said this increase was a result of a change in reporting practices in 2001 and that gun crime had actually fallen since 2005. Chris Grayling, the Shadow Home Secretary (an opposition party spokesperson), attributed the rise to ineffective policing and an out-of-control gang culture. A 2006 statistical analysis found no measurable effect detectable from the 1997 firearms legislation.
In the year Apr 2010 to Mar 2011 there were 11,227 recorded offences involving firearms, broken down as follows.
By weapon type:
• Long-barrelled shotgun = 406
• Sawn-off shotgun = 202
• Handgun = 3,105
• Rifle = 74
• Imitation firearm = 1,610
• Unidentified firearm = 957
• Other firearm = 670
• Air weapons = 4,203
Only those items proven to be "imitations" (which includes BB/soft air types) or air weapons are classed as such, otherwise they are placed by default in the main "live" categories, e.g. an imitation pistol not proven to be such would be counted as a live "handgun." "Other firearm" includes CS gas (223 crimes), pepper spray (118), and stun guns (149).
By crime type:
• Violence against the person:
• Homicide = 60
• Attempted murder/GBH with intent = 757
• Other = 3,317 (1,212 of which involved imitations)
• Robbery = 2,965
• Burglary = 151
• Criminal damage = 3,287 (2,916 of which involved air weapons)
• Other = 690
Oh Don, stop your waffling!
What you've written just shows how much you are a partisan of NRA!
THANK YOU SO MUCH PIERS FOR TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR AMERICA WITH REGARD TO GUN CONTROL...I LOVE YOU
It is commendable, Piers, that you have taken on the gun lobby in the US. Proud of you. Wish some of our politicians had the same courage. Keep up this excellent reporting!!
The number of murders and killings in England and Wales Police recorded 550 homicides in 2011-12.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18900384.
551 homicides (includes murder, manslaughter and infanticide) were reported in 2011/12, a considerable drop on the previous year's total of 638. Homicides are now down to around half of the figure for 2001/2http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2011/jul/14/crime-statistics-england-wales. Do your own resarch and you will see who is lying.
To the Watcher...
The figure 550 in 2011 is a guesstimate of the number of deaths by guns in Britain, the figure of 8,583 is a factual figure for deaths by guns in 2011 in the US with the exception of Alabama or Florida...as these two places don't give stats for gun deaths so you can at least (me, being very fair) add another 50 deaths to the US figure for 2011!
p.s. To: K. Berry, Many people who write in have English as a second language, Your comment regarding spelling and "caliber" of people was on the bigoted and snobish side.
Piers has been ranting about the evils of guns in the U.S. every night for over a month now and he can rant for the next year and he is not going to make a sliver of difference. Why is CNN allowing him to take up best time slot on their network when a tiny percent of the viewers actually care about his views. I can hardly wait until he has completely decimated his rating so they will finally get rid of him. Surely there is some personality that can replace him that we actually want to listen too. I stopped watching after his third rant about guns and stop in weekly in the hopes that's he's been fired.
Agreed. He seems to be a one trick pony, lacking new ideas or originality. So much so that he even has the same guest on again. Will we see Mr. Pratt on again next week?
So don't watch CNN...
Checked 5 different pages to compare murders in England and whales in 2011, nowhere the numbers reported were less than 550 in 2011.
Interviewer and interwiee, both unreliable
What a bunch of pious bs Morgan is putting out. If he don't like our laws, go back to England. When has prohibiting any thing from society worked? It didn't work with alcohol, in the '30s, and hasn't worked with drugs. Honest people obey laws, it is the outlaws that don't. So what makes Mr. Morgan think that outlawing guns will make anyone safer. Frankly, the most common sense approach to protecting our citizens and children in schools was given by the head of the NRA...armed guards in every school...not teachers or administrators! I am a retired principal and unfortunately had a criminal bring a gun to my school. We hired a city policeman to be on campus during school hours and everyone felt safer and the kids loved having him there. So, Mr Morgan, unless you have had direct experience with issues like this stop the bs.
UK Violent Crime Rate: 4,100 per 100,000 citizens
US Violent Crime Rate: 475 per 100,000 citizens
Wow, another brilliant statistic...except that you didn't fill in the blanks...like "Who, Why, When, Where, How"?
As per Piers Morgan's suggestion just minutes ago.....I just Googled the number of murders in 2011 in England and Wales and on several websites (including the BBC) I came up with 500+ murders and a statement that England & Wales have been averaging 550 murders annually over the last decade ......and so Pier's constant use of the figure 39 is likely VERY and woefully inaccurate.....and his own staff has let him down......by the way, the population of those countries is 56m......so a multiplier of 5.5 to equal the USA's population of 310m means that the English comparison would be more like 3000 murders per year in comparison to the USA's 11000. Neither are good numbers......but I do agree we should follow the British model.....but not decry it as more perfect as Morgan seems to want to emphasize.
Murders can occur by means other than guns.
Piers, I did what you suggested – went on Google and did research on murder rates in England and Whales. I am not sure where you get your data, but the data on the internet suggests murder rates in your lovely country to be 10-15X greater than your stated #s during your debate with Pratt.
When you suggest that your viewers do something like this and the data shows your lying about the data used to support your weak argument, it makes you look like a total fool.
Additionally, when your guest on the show tonight answers a question and continue to interrupt his answer because his answer is proving you wrong, it really weakens your stance.
Ben Swann goes on to state “The U.S. has the highest gun ownership in the world…[making it] first in the world for gun ownership,” said Swann. “[The] U.S., despite being number one in gun ownership, is number 28 in gun homicide, with a rate of 2.97 per 100,000 people.”n exploring the United Kingdom’s numbers (Great Britain is part of the UK), some of Morgan’s arguments again seem to falter, as Swann notes that the UK has the second-highest overall crime rate in the European Union (EU); the EU has also named Britain the most violent country in the union.
“In the UK, there are 2,034 violent crimes per 100,000 people,” Swann noted, showcasing that fewer guns is certainly not indicative of a lower crime rate (the rate in the U.S. is 466 per 100,000 residents)."
In case anybody was wondering: here's a link to those statistics that Don posted
Here is what Google found.
More than 100,000 people in Northern Ireland own firearms, having 380,000 among them. Gun control laws in Northern Ireland are slightly different from those in the rest of the UK, being primarily affected by the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004. Under the new law, first-time buyers will be required to demonstrate they can be trusted with the firearm. It will be up to firearms dealers selling the products to tell new buyers, and those upgrading their firearms, about the safety procedures. Firearm possessors in Northern Ireland must not transport their firearms to Great Britain. Northern Ireland is the only part of the United Kingdom where personal protection is accepted as a legitimate reason to obtain and own a firearm and is the only part of the United Kingdom where handguns and semi-automatic firearms are permitted. Also, carrying a firearm in plain view in a public place is allowed without a permit
Time to listen to the victims. Not the ones that think there life is safe with guns and paranoid thinking
Pierce Mr. Pratt was right on his numbers in England. You need to say to him you are sorry having the wrong data.
900 vs 11000 mmmmm
REGULATED militia is the key here. Larry Pratt said "EVERY American should be able to get an AR-15" which contradicts the amendment. REGULATED REGULATED REGULATED! Got it??? Anyone who's prefrontal cortex works worth a damn understands this. I suppose some numb-skulls think that it's healthy for criminals and the mentally ill with suicidal or homicidal ideation or other neurodegenerative diseases to have an AR-15. Ridiculous!
Before you start throwing insulting around, take another read of the 2nd amendment. What is regulated is the militia, not our arms. Did you not diagram sentences when you were in school. The right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. So when we have to join together in an organized fashion to fight tyranny, we'll be glad to let you regulate and coordinate our strategy.
Here here....great point, Jan.
Larry Pratt Never fired a shot but Piers Morgan is bleeding all over the place. With all of the networks research Piers Morgan Failed once again, and will continue to fail, and is he pursues his failed logic.
What if I don't want to own gun? I am supposed to go out and spend my hard earned money on a AR-15 or any other gun so Americans can use them for sport and pleasure so I can protect myself? My favorite hobby is motocross, in 1986, I believe is the year without looking it up was the year the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT put a ban on hyperformance off-road vehicle research and development to the for major brands, Honda, Yamaha,Suzuki, and KTM because retailers were being sued by consumers because they were continually getting hurt or dying for a number of reasons, not to do with machine defects. Thus causing the major companys to stop developing and selling these products in fear the goverment would shut down all products development and sales. If the government can put a ban on product developement on retail goods that unqualified people purchase and use them in ways that hurt themselves, why can't they on guns?
Go back to England then Piers!!!!!! We dnt want you here!!!!!!!! It's called people need morality! The last time I checked a gun didn't shoot itself!!!!!
Laryy Pratt, you are ignorant and a disgrase to this society. Try to to fill into the shoes of those victim's family then you will realize.....What now are you going to arm all the school bus drivers or plan on escorting the buses to and from school? Is there an end to this?
Dear Piers Morgan, Thank you for your excellent common sense approach and coverage of America's gun problem. The statistics in Britain, Canada, etc and other civilized countries speak for themselves. Quite simply and logically less guns equal less gun deaths. Larry Pratt is a dinosaur who should be put out to pasture with his out of touch ideas.
Ok if there is not a government plot to disarm the american ppl then why is all the focus on the gun(s) and not the fact that everyone of these "lone gunmen" was on some kind of prescriptoion drug. Which they all clearly state on the warnings that suicidal even homicidal thoughts can increase in pateints.
I agree that the worst part of the weapons being on the street are the deaths that occur. We need to ban these weapons, only police and military would have access to the high cap mags. We also need to ban any vehicle that is able to go faster than 55 MPH. Thousands are killed a year in the US due to driving too fast. In fact, if a vehicles engine is rated at more than 75 horse power, it should be banned as well. Why in the world would a private citizen need a vehicle that powerful? High HP engines are the same as high cap mags, Death machines.
while i respect the second amendment i wonder that as more and more people own ar15 s and similar weapons wont some gun owners then demand even more powerful weapons in case a gang of criminals so armed attack them?.where will it end?.does the second amendment mean everyone should be able to own a nuclear weapon just because a bad guy has one?
A nuclear weapon would kill more than the people who are trying to kill you. Murder is illegal in America. We can use whatever force is required to kill just the people who are trying to kill us.
The problem, as it seems to me, with Messrs. Pratt and Jones' argument is a failure to recognize the key difference in causation and correlation. As Mr. Jones said to Mr. Morgan (paraphrased) on his recent appearance: The nations with liberal gun policies, the US and Switzerland, keep their crime rates in check due to the amount of assault weapons in the hands of (arguably 'un'-)qualified citizens, not the opposite. However, when making an argument like this, one must consider many other factors that, when taken together, can shed light on relative levels of crime, such as the level of affluence of the country in question, quality of life, happiness index, etc. The guns themselves do not necessarily predicate lower crime. The same may be said of Mr. Pratt's argument: the greater number of guns in the population equals lower crime levels. This has roundly been proven to be false. Factors such as gang activity, the qualifications of the gun holders, and many, many more factors must be considered before making such broad and sweeping generalizations. Cheers for keeping your cool, Piers.
gee piers can your 2 guests after mr pratt be any more wasted on big pharma drugs? what a joke! anyone that cant see how mind wiped they are is probably ill themselves! as mr pratt said earlier today on the alex jones show, your official statistics do not matter because alot of murders are not reported as they are here. if 3 guys outside a bar kill a woman and no one saw it and the woman cant speak for herself, they are let go and its not counted as a homicide! also, remember to multiply morgans figures by 6 because the usa has 6 times the people! and he dares call mr pratt a liar! you sir are a deceiver! you purposely mislead people with half a story! if people cant see that for themselves then they must be pretty weak and pathetic, probably more of your fans!
Piers was quick to call Larry a liar, but not his two quests afterwards. Apparently there was an "automatic" shotgun and rifle used at the colorado shooting... That's a new one! CNN, please invite people to speak of the truth!
Piers, why do you keep comparing your country with ours? Your population is 62,698,362 are population is 311,591,917, nite and day. How many people are kill every year from DUI's so should we ban drinking? . Ps if you feel that it is so much safer in Britain then go back.
How does Piers explain the less guns the less murders? Chicago has some of the strictest gun control yet the highest murder (by gun) rate in the country. Didn't he know the US had guns when he came here.
CNN, Done with getting my news here,
So discusted with this pompas Piers, and you pay him for this!
He is so rude to anyone who does not agree with him.
Although I agree with Morgan on many issues. I don't see the need to compare the US with that "Little" Island country. Controlling that little island is far easier.
Piers Morgan, I am a Christian Texan gun owner and mother of a teenage boy, and I want you to know that you are my hero. So many mothers in the US now realize that we've been silent too long. Thank Heavens you are sticking with the subject, enduring an hour of horrible company with the gun fanatics. Please continue. No one else in America seems to be as great a champion and debater than you, with your British and intellectual restraint versus the irrational and bizarre gun maniacs. These bizarre, strangely unhinged gun fanatics represent an extreme and dangerous group of people similar to the KKK, white supremacists, religious fanatics, and Muslim terrorists. I don't know what is going on in their brains, but they spew such irrational and threatening hatred over their love of guns that they appear to be mentally ill–in a state of psychosis. We have to change the gun laws because it is killing our kids. Period. I can still protect myself and hunt so I just don't get it. We aren't talking about taking anyone's normal guns away, just the kid killer guns and ammo. Doesn't that make sense?
Hey lady you don't like the AMERICAN TRADITION of gun ownership MOVE TO ENGLAND.
Where did she say she didn't like the American tradition of gun ownership? That's not the issue here.
I'm a Texan. I know Texans. You are not a Texan.
If your so unhappy about our Countrys laws then swim your sorry butt back across the pond. I am so sick of this countrys Majorities rights being screwed over by the minority oppiniouns!
Dear Mr. Morgan,
Although I am a fan of your show, I catch you quite naive tonight. Are you really so uniformed as to the formation of this nation that you are not aware of the reason for the Second Amendment. I find the arena that you and your half witted guest banter about as quite comical ... No one has spoken to those not so fortunate as you or I, ....we know the reason for the 2nd Amendment IS protection from the government of the United States as a whole. Dear Sir, your argument for tired home protectors and hunters are indeed foolish, as they should be compared to witch craft in my book. When those that labor are tired of the 'taxes without representation' that you promulgate and these silly orchestrated events, Sir you will be overlooked. Please live up to your background and education Mr. Morgan, as I plan to live up to mine! You have no idea of the Love of country 99% of we Americans practice!!!!...., We live it daily!!!
All my prayers and best wishes to our great United States of America via your wide viewership!
Is this a forum for gun owners and NRA members? Seems to me from majority of comments above. Keep going P.Morgan, stick it in everybody's face until something is done to about this insanity. I don't care if you are from another planet, looks like we have no one here who is willing to push this issue.
Once again Mr Pierce, you don't even have a clue about what a machine gun is. An AR15 is a semi-automatic gun and NOT a machine gun. 1 trigger pull equals 1 round fired. If they are military weapons, why aren't the military carrying AR15's....they are not....they carry fully automatic M16. You also say they cannot be used for hunting, well once again they can be and are used for hunting. Ask any hunter who uses an AR15 if he shoots a deer, does the bullet bounce off and the deer run away? I think not! The AR15 is used for home defense just as any other semi-automatic is. And what about the shooter of Newtown? I have not heard you lay the blame on him......he pulled the trigger and he is to blame, not the law abiding citizen that uses the weapons to defend his home, life and children.
Quick statistical FACTS...FBI Stats...Sorry Piers you are a manipulative lier...https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ooa98FHuaU0
Seems like if people don't agree with your beliefs they are wrong. Something you said about your country had only 900 or so crimes in a year or something. If you are so high on your country why don't you move back to your country? We have a right to own firearms in America. Idiots should not have guns. But because some idiots do you shouldn't penalize all americans.
if Piers really wants a real debate on "guns in america" he should invite Sam Harris on for an hour ! http://www.samharris.org
instead of extreme right wingers like Alex Jones !
I got a pistol permit and own a pistol (.45c Ed Brown) I got it after the home invasion in Cheshire Ct. i fully agree with Piers Morgan and we should be thankful we have him. More guns only mean a wild west atmosphere some day. Could you imagine what a crwded place would be like if everyone had a gun in a panic situation In a situation like that a lot more innocent people will die. A. bullet in most cases goes through its target and beyond What about the rights of people that want to feel protection that don't want to carry a gun? The pro gun groups are paranoid and afraid. Its digusting that they can indorse assault weapons and large volume magazines..I only hope something meaningful does come out of the Newtown massacre. Thank you Piers keep up the good work
ALL GUNS SHOULD BE BANNED!! You sir are a mockery to all peace loving people. Why do you think we have the police force? Buy better locks you idiot!!
I heard yesterday the the school where Presidents Obama kids go, has at least 10 armed guards. Why shouldn't our kids have armed folks in their schools to protect them?
You keep talking about "gun murder" rates.
If you close all pharmacies then "prescription drug abuse" will end. That doesn't mean the addicts are helping old ladies, taking care of children and holding down jobs. Some of them may but most just find another drug to use.
Bad, cruel, mentally ill or just plain mad people will still hurt and kill people. I would not want to be in a close quarters with a well practiced, sword wielding mad man.
If we ban guns only criminals will be armed, if you don't believe me just look how well banning cocaine and heroin has worked.
Piers is a sham and a liar. I just looked up the stats from a UK gov. Report that states from Jan. to Sept. 2011 there were 7024 crimes committed with firearms. Of those, 388 cases of injury or death. I think it's time to turn CNN off for good until This jerk is gone. Shame on you Piers. Very disappointed in you CNN.
I don't really like when people are calling each others liars, but this is not the issue. Tonight, Larry Prat was using baseless numbers as for the murders in Britain.
According to RSN, the total murders in Britain in 2011 was 638, but the total murders from FIREARMS was only 58. Therefore, Piers was right and Prat was wrong. It is very important to remember that the population of Britain is much smaller and therefore the gun murders in the US is not 200 times more, as Piers is trying to say using " dry" numbers. With all due respect, the numbers are relatively much smaller. Something like 1 to 5 gun murders.
Weapons of choice – since the beginning of man – guns – knives – hammers – rocks. Take away guns – there will always be a weapon of choice! You can't Govern Evil. Anything can be a weapon to evil.
No one talks about the man in China who went to a school and stabbed 22 kids. He didn't have a gun – but he did have a weapon of choice!
Let's stop selling knives – collect all rocks – let's protect the world from all Evil LOL :)
Morgan is on a Pipe Dream!
Thank you, Piers, for taking on this issue and for exposing the radical Pratt/Jones-types that are normally relegated to Fox News which we avoid at all costs. Please keep this issue at the forefront, regardless of criticism. As a mother of two small children, I demand that they grow up in a safe society. That is why we live in America and pay taxes to be protected by a police force. The argument from the pro-gun side is simply sickening. It's time for a change in our society.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by
new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their
own government, a program costing Australian taxpayers more than $500
million dollars. The first year results are now in:
1) Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.
2) Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent.
3) Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent!)
4) In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.
Note, that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns! While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months,
since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort
and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns.
The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
link please. thanks
Here is just one place.

Mr. Morgan is rude and a complete idiot!!! if you are going to have a guest on your show, let your guest speak even if you don't agree with what he is saying , he has the right to voice his opinnion.
OH GREAT NOW WE HAVE 2 EUROPEAN DEBATING AMERICAN GUN LAWS ON US TV ......... CNN, GET REAL !!!!!!!!
who is doing all the killing?
Did you know that there are 14.82 murders per 100K by blacks versus 2.17 per 100K for whites?
Per capita there are 7x more murders committed by blacks than whites
Could you please cover something besides gun control...I am growing weary of your continuous coverage of this topic...I mean, really, days and days of an entire show consumed with this topic is getting a little old..
Larry Pratt just got owned again by a INFORMED AMERICAN, go back to ENGLAND Morgan and go to jail for hacking emials.
No one should have the right to own a firearm that holds more than six rounds... While hunting, if you miss on your first shot... You are a lousy hunter; while protecting yourself, if you miss on your first shot... You will most likely become a victim.
Mr. Morgan there are laws in America that makes it illegal to import and distribute drugs. But do you think that stops drugs from coming into our communities? The same thing will happen if you ban legal guns. The gangs and crooks will still get guns (yes even AR15 and AK47). It will be the decent folks who will suffer from not being able to defend themselves. I challenge you to do an honest research on the many tens of thousands of regular people who defended themselves and their loved ones with guns every day in America. Bring them to your show and interview them. You see for every sad and unfortunate victim there are many more who defend themselves properly with guns. When you make an attempt to understand this perspective you will begin to regain my respect.
So... How many gangs have you fought off with ur semi automatic weapons?
Thank you sir, for making my day and proving a point.
Your everyday, friendly Canadian.
I am 64 years old and have watched CNN for many years. I have never made a comment concerning a news program before. I am totally fed up with Piers Morgan and his trying to push his British ideas on gun control in America. He is certainly no Larry King and if he continues to host this show you will be loosing a long time viewer. He needs to return to England where the laws suit him. I am deeply offended by him. I do not like his views nor the way he hosts this show.
Larry King really. That man would never ask a guest a tough question. He was a total poof. He was a fawning celebrity butt kisser. Not that there is anything wrong with that but he carried no gravitas as an interviewer. In fact it is sad that this country needs an advocate from another country to speak the truth on this issue. Piers is here legally and has every right to speak on the subject. Don't like it. Go ahead, change the channel you won't be missed. Try Oprah. It's sounds like her show would be a better fit for your viewing tastes.
Kudos to Piers and his staff for keeping this subject on the front burner.
I am 51 years old and lived in 2 large American cities, and not in the privileged side of town. Our home has NEVER harbored a firearm and have NEVER needed one. The claim that we are 'safer' with guns is ridiculous. Responsible hunters and collectors can easily keep their guns with limits and there is absolutely no need for automatic anything.
It's time to modify the 2nd amendment for our times and keep guns limited to only those who pass a background check and pay to re-register them every two years like automobiles. Every gun needs a serial number, and you wouldn't be able to sell it without the new owner re-registering it again. It should be a privilege to own a firearm, and every registration should cost money. That should infuse some cash in to our economy!
I have to register my pet and my vehicle and pay a fee every couple of years.
It's time to rein in the real nutcases who think that arming our nation is the answer.
Arming the nation isnt the answer, but the U.S.A has created too much of a problem to fix. Now we have to deal with the situation the best we can, and the only way to do so is to be able to defend ourselves. It does not matter what anybody does, if criminals have these kinds of weapons, we cannot defend ourselves with only 4 round handguns.
Hopefully you U.S government officials will come to your senses.
Your everyday, friendly Canadian.
I applaud your showmanship!!!! You have been fully succesful in accomplishing what you've been paid to do.
Now please go home. Oh, wait, they don't want you in the U.K.
Piers Morgan. You will never be Geraldo Rivera...Give It up..
That's funny right there!
Pierce I am behind you all the way. You also have rights. The right to oppose a law. The right to express your views. The right to free press. The right to believe as you choose. I happen to agree with you and I am gald you are not affraid to speak up. Please don't stop!
Great job Piers. Keep up the courageous work in this absurd gun issue. I am a proud USA citizen for my entire long life, and very anti-crime. The USA would be an even greater nation with more people like you in it. Thank you.
Mr Morgan needs to check his facts on gun violence in his own country before he wishes to be a soundboard for change in this country. shouting down his guests shows he is a blooey dope as they say back home. if he wishes to examine facts, perhaps he should examine American cities with strict gun control such as Chicago and DC and Camden....need we say more. Bans never worked in a free country. Get support for strict with enforcement and monitor mental health more stringent and stop raving like an inane lunatic...it's a turnoff.
In the United Kingdom he worked as a writer and editor for several British tabloids, including The Sun, News of the World, and Daily Mirror, and was a judge on Britain's Got Talent. In November 2012 Morgan was criticised in the official findings of the Leveson Inquiry, when Lord Leveson stated that comments made in Morgan's testimony about phone hacking "clearly prove is that he was aware that it was taking place in the press as a whole and that he was sufficiently unembarrassed by what was criminal behaviour that he was prepared to joke about it"...kinda hard to take the moral high ground isn't it?
Mr. Morgan, please do not give up, and don't listen to the naysayers...there are many people in the U.S. that agree with your views on gun control. And in my opinion, Mr. Jones has made himself into a perfect example of someone who shouldn't be allowed to have guns...I don't think he's mentally stable enough.
Let me paint the rest of you a picture: Everyone is armed, and carries a handgun everywhere – work, school, cars, malls, theatres, colleges, bars, restaurants, etc. Do you feel safe given this answer? I would say no – especially since I wouldn't be carrying one – and all it would take for me to get shot is one of you to find me alone and be a little hateful. Don't like atheists? I am one – what makes you not shoot me given you know that and in your head you think I'm satanic when I'm not?
I would be terrified of people always if your answer to this is more guns – and I guaranteee none of you have thought about this past if you had a gun, you could protect yourself from other guns. Forget about the 3/2,000,000 schizos out there who have committed a mass shooting in the last 4 years. There are thousands of similar, albiet smaller scale, crimes all across the country numbering in the hundreds per day by criminals. AND YOUR ACCEPTING OF THAT???
I would say, yes – the answer is indeed tighter gun control until we can get crime itself under control. You all cannot handle the responsibility of gun ownership.
I would be scared of dying too if I didn't know there was more to our existence after this life.
I keep hearing "Why does anyone need a 30 round clip, assault weapon". It would be my guess not for hunting or protection from everyday criminals. Has anyone ever considered that citizens may be concerned about the direction of this country and realize the true consequence of gun control and maybe, 9 bullets wont be enough to protect us from an oppressive government? Thats what I read in the second amendment.
I am honored to hear Piers Morgan fight this fight on TV. Crush these fools Piers. One by one with facts and common sense. Beat it into their tiny heads buddy. We got your back.
Thank you Piers for continuing to push this debate. Please do not stop. You are absolutely correct in your views on this subject. There is positively no need for American citizens to be armed as if they are going to be defending themselves against hoards of marauders. The rabid right continue to state their need for self defense and that we are trying to unarm them. Nothing could be further from the truth. If citizens want to keep a gun in their home for self defense then I don't believe anyone would deny them that right. Stockpiling assault weapos and huge amounts of ammunition on the other hand is just ludicrious. Citizens walking around armed with firearms is also ludicrous. Piers ask one of these rabid right gun rights nuts where does the 2nd ammendment gives them the right to ammunition. I don't see it. Guns are just the delivery system, It is actually bullets that kill. Besides gun control, we need bullett control. Strictly limit the posession, production and sale of ammunition with long prison sentences for violations. The 2nd ammendment does not give anyone the right to ammunition. Once again thank you for keeping this issue in the public eye. Don't stop. Americans have short attention spans and this issue has to be in their face every minute of everyday until it is solved.
"The right of civilians in a free society to possess "military-looking," or even actual military weapons, is essential if a monopoly of force is not to reside in the hands of government, where modern history shows the potential for far greater abuses and crimes exists than are possible for any deranged individual."
~Aymette v. State, 21 Tenn.Reports 154 (1840)
prominently cited in
U.S. v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174 (1939)
Last time I checked a lot has changed since 1840 Tennessee.
We never hear anything about the gun manufacturers. Why? The right to bear an arm would not be the issue if laws were put into place to prevent the manufacture of hand guns and assault weapons. The government could have its own manufacturer for such weapons used by the military and/or law enforcement. Its my understanding that guns for the sport of hunting are not the issue here. I think we could all benefit from hearing from representatives from the gun manufacturers to explain their motivation for the making of assault weapons.
Linda, if you put a ban on gun manufacturers, you just infringed the 2nd amendment which says "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." They make them because they enjoy making them. Browning, who invented a new version of a gun and became a big manufacturer was a Mormon. These are not blood thirsty people.
Those who forget history are certain to repeat it. I'm not a gun nut, but just look at this world. All of those poor people in Syria and other places that have no guns to defend themselves. Mexico prohibits guns. Look at the murder rate. Insurrection? Tyranny? I don't know. But I still remember the USNational guard firing on and killing college students at Kent State. Our forefathers knew that an armed public will prevent tyranny. Remember that only 160 years ago we had a civil war. Impossible to repeat???? I'm going out to buy my first gun. Our screwy legislators and president scare me.
You're a scared little person john.
That little assault weapon is not going to protect you. If fact, it is only going to put your family at more risk because it is your first weapon and you will screw up. So go ahead, put your family at more risk because you, in your small little mind, believe you are going to protect yourself from an imaginary threat. You are so uninformed.
Hooray...the score is...Piers Morgan 1 – 0 Alex Jones
Take a bow, Piers.
The argument of Mr. Pratt is baseless. His claim is supply more automatic weapons to the culprit and you civilians buy more guns to protect you and your family. What a non-sense argument. If there is strict restriction and ban to own such weapons from all civilians, where is the need to protect you or your family with such weapons? Why don't Mr. Pratt understand that simple logic. As we have- been hearing time and again, because of these loose gun rules, even the law-enforcement people's life is in danger, even though they are having the guns, which may be less powerful than that in the hands of those culprits. Gentlemen, understand the simple logic, ban the automatic guns from public, then there is no need for the good guys even to have that weapons to protect their family.
Dear VP Joe Biden, President Barack Obama, and Other Panel Members
I know that organized crime is committing acts of terror for the purpose of advocating a defenseless population, which is linked to subjugation through organized crime, corruption, abuse, and oppression. It takes time to show this to be true but there is progress on this issue and it can be found on the Psychological Harassment Information Association website, the Rage Shooting Factors page.
Please do not weaken the U.S. rights, the 2nd amendment, and give information a bit more time.
You Piers loving idiots. Britain won't let him come back!!! Read this:
That is your proof. Look at the adds for end of world desperate fools and endorsement of War Criminal Dick Cheney. How far off base can your evidence be? You might want to actually read the link. Rupert Murdoch was the owner so actually the fault lies with the owner of Fox News. TV's Network for the absolute uniformed. Just watch that channel for a while and see the idiots they put up to speak. John Bolton, Michele Bachmann, Louie Gohmert, Karl Rove
I found some stats for Mr. Morgan on this web sight. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1223193/Culture-violence-Gun-crime-goes-89-decade.html
Dude – before you write something, learn how to follow an argument and support your point with something relevant. Piers is talking about gun murders – not gun violence, which is what the article you reference is about.
You have to be kidding me!
It states: "Reports said that the figures would show gun crime had doubled under Labour and that an average of 22 firearms offences were committed every day in Britain."
I ask you, WHAT REPORTS??? Then I ask you, WHO WROTE THE ARTICLE??? Then I ask you, WHERE'S THE CITATION TO THE FACTS??? You can't even comment or challenge the article because the comments section is turned off!
Are you so naive and ignorant as to believe anything that is told to you? That article is as valid as the whack-a-doodle Hollywood rags sold at your grocery store. For all we know, the article could be quoting Mr. Pratt! YOU ARE SO GULLABLE.

Wow I thought it was 1939 and Piers Morgan was Hitler vilifying the Jews in a public forum.
I'm right, your wrong and I won't listen anyway. Typical Liberal when they can't debate, resort to name calling and insults.
Remember when CNN was good? I miss the old CNN.
Tabloid journalism...some things (and people) never change..do they Piers?
One has to wonder, does Piers actually care about this issue, or were his ratings slipping?
I was a medic and know what bullets do to a body, however I am trainning my 6 and 9 year old on AR's and Ak's......and they are doing very well! We have turned into a candy ass society.
I can only stomach to watch the pompous arrogant Morgan for a few seconds while flipping channels..And when I do see him spewing his liberal propaganda even his facts are wrong...Like he keeps talking about the AR style rifle used at the Aurora theater...After the theater shooting there were many witnesses who stated that Holmes started his evil with a shotgun then he switched to the rifle which jammed right away !!..he then discarded the rifle and used the 40 caliber handgun...Morgan has said the ridicules statement that armed guards won't work as a deterrent and gives Fort hood as a example...since when does a jihadist care about being killed ?? he was a terrorist intent on killing as many Americans as he could...Morgan would do better to preach in his homeland the UK where after the gun bans the gun violence there has doubled and not to mention the 120.000 knifings there a year..And now there's even talk in the UK about banning large kitchen knifes...How are all those bans working out fat boy ??
I am curious why you as a British citizen, choose to work and stay here? Is it because of the money or some other reasons? I am sure many American like me would like to know the truth. Thank you if you will respond.
Piers Morgan should have the father and brother of Adam Lanza on and ask them why did they not stop Adams mother from contributing to his facination with firearms knowing he was a troubled youth. To me they are just as guilty as Adam and his mother.
Pratt and Jones come across as terrorists. Prior to the interviews, I believed that NRA was a big donor to our Politicians, however after listening them, I believe that they are terrorizing our Politicians. Their loophole to keep our Government from coming into our homes is insane because the Fourth Amendment protects us from the Government invading our homes. It's all about greed.
People face the facts and admit that Mr. Morgan is trying to save lives. Americans have to grow up and face facts. Guns do not kill people true, people kill people, but if there was no guns there would be less deaths .
Piers tried, but he came up short in making his point. When Mr. Pratt referred to the woman who shot the intruder 5 times and the intruder was still able to move, Piers should have immediately pointed out that while the intruder may not have been killed, the 5 shots to his head STOPPED him from further threatening or harming the homeowner and her child. And that's all one is trying to accomplish when confronted with a threat to their life or safety. You shoot to STOP THE THREAT and that's exactly what the woman did and she was successful. And THAT should have been Piers' response to Pratt saying the woman should have been armed with a weapon that was able to house more rounds. She didn't need any more rounds. She managed to stop the intruder with 5 shots to his head and neck.
1) for balanced debate read stats on inforwars.com....result = guns go up crimes goes down. handguns get banned in major cities = more handgun crimes (all backed by govt sites)
2) why is piers givin rights from American 1st amendment when he is not an American? if that nut leader from Iran moved here with a temp visa and was bashing American values my guess is he would be on first plane out.
3) people need to understand it's the person behind the crime. everyone wants to know WHY someone did a crime afterwards proving we understand it is psychological/mental/spiritual/emotional causitive problem.....SO FIX THE PROBLEM
You're right. Chicago has most crime despite gun control laws. Because I don't believe you've to go through customs when you enter Chicago from Indiana. Do you?
Clearly you do not have the IQ or any medical knowledge to understand that you CAN NOT fix the mental health problem. We can only fix the availability and access to guns for those people..
HERE IS THE REAL AGENDA AS I SEE IT, the republican party ,that has been down trodden as of late , with past elections, and a real grass movement of democrats becoming main stream, I believe has just changed, regardless if any gun control gets passed .There will be a landslide of new republicans being voted in now , in the mid term elections, as well as you can bet the next president will be republican , all because everyone that owns a gun will now vote republican and they will now roar back to being the mainstream party. The democrats have just sunk their boat, and you can almost feel the dollars being shoveled to the nra, good job democrats , does anyone else see that or is it just me?
Dana, I think dems are ok. America has reached a tipping point where minority's are the majority. As long as dems support enough minority issues they'll beat republicans.
No, just you. Pay attention to what Republicans are doing to further isolate themselves from Women, Minorities , actually anyone except Rich White People and those who can be fooled into voting against their own interest. As for the NRA the money doesn't help if the message is insane. Just so you know, the NRA was the least successful political investor in the last election with a success rate of less than 9 10ths of 1 percent 0.8 something. The worst of all and lower than Karl Rove SuperPack with More than 100 Million and 1.8 success.
Dana, if you are correct, then gun owners will still be in for an awakening as there's a good possibility Chris Christie will be the Republican Presidential candidate. And given his comments last month about gun control, it sure sounds like he's on board for stricter legislation regarding assault weapons, semiautomatic weapons, and high capacity magazines.
Great job Pierce, we need people like you to check the increasing influence of "stupid" in this country. After all we need safety of our next generations.
Here's the fundamental argument behind 2nd amendment that you should have mentioned:
It was written by some smart people at a time when farmers, barbers, teachers and soldiers had access to the same types of weapons. There was not a huge difference between the armed capabilities of ordinary citizens and military. The argument that we need guns in case "elected government" unleashes tyranny and we'll defend ourselves with these weapons is outdated a bit. Today government has drones, B52 bombers and inter continental ballistic missiles with nuclear weapons. So stupid people will be crushed in minutes no matter how many automatic rifles they get.
Anyway, here's what has changed since citizens of UK & other civilized countries were disarmed. In those times, the Internet and other electronic media wasn't there & stupid people like Alex Jones & Pratt whatever (by the way Pratt is not stupid. He's cynical and venom spewing selfish person) had no voice. They'd listen to their local intellectuals such as professors, teachers, business owners & stop their nonsense right there. now they have a medium to carry on their nonsense. Guess what politicians figured that they can actually ride on their stupidity & take advantage. Results are in front of us. Unbelievable but these people have problem with same intellectuals, colleges & professors etc.
Before calling others "stupid" you might want to check the spelling of the name of your subject... Makes you look pretty... Well... Stupid.
Thanks sir. Which school did you go to? Just so I can alert others to avoid that one. Ohh sorry you probably dropped out.
Is "Perspective" too big a word for this blog?
Ok "Perspective"..... Time to take your meds.
"American need to protect themselves from fellow Americans and therefore everybody should have AR-15". The most insane idea I have ever heard. Why do we even have police. May be we should not have any police and just carry a gun everywhere. Would be a hit in developing countries to control population!!!!
Police do not have a duty to provide police services to individuals, even if a dispatcher promises help to be on the way, except when police develop a special duty to particular individuals. Know the facts.
Gun control began with corrupt politicians and organized crime in NYC.
New York passed the Sullivan Act in 1911, one of the first gun control laws. This law required that firearms small enough to be concealed on a person be registered. This state law became a test measure for future gun control laws.
Big Tim Sullivan was a notorious Irish gangster whose mob controlled New York City south of 14th Street around the turn of the 20th century. Throwing in his lot with the likes of Monk Eastman, Paul Kelly and Arnold Rothstein, Sullivan became an expert on that dark nexus where organized crime and politics consummate their unholy alliance, and soon became an influential figure in the corrupt Democratic machine there known as Tammany Hall.
He made the relatively easy transition from dangerous street thug and political ward heeler to New York state senator first in 1894. He left Albany in 1903 for a term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and returned to the legislature in 1909 after complaining that he lacked the juice in Washington he'd grown accustomed to on his home turf.
In 1911, the Irish and Jewish mobsters who put him into office faced a growing problem - the Italians. Immigrant mafiosi newly arrived from Sicily and Naples were horning in on what had once been their exclusive domain. Gunfights on the Lower East Side and the neighborhood around Mulberry Street that was to become Little Italy grew more and more frequent, and it was getting so that you couldn't even shake down a barber shop or a greengrocer without some guy fresh off the boat taking a shot at you.
Not to worry, Big Tim told the boys. And in 1911, he took care of the problem.
The Sullivan Act was passed into law in New York state in 1911 and remains Big Tim's primary legacy. It effectively banned most people from owning and, especially, carrying handguns. Under the onerous conditions of the corrupted law, a peaceable citizen of sound mind could apply for a pistol permit, but if any of a number of elected or appointed officials objected to its issuance, he or she could be denied the license. The law remains in effect to this day and has been used as the basis for gun laws in many other states and municipalities.
Piers you are so full of it. No one needs to be unarmed these days. I want a gun to face someone with a gun.
The notion that stopping access of guns to the mentally ill will not stop the ongoing bloodbath in the US. Anyone who has ever taken antidepressants is by definition "mentally ill" but of course not to the degree that they would ever contemplate murder.
Aside from the criminal acts of the few, a large proportion gun deaths result from misadventure, accidents or from anger and rage. How do you legislate against angry people from having access to guns. How many deaths each year result from quarrels or from road rage or jealousy in bad relationships. You only have to see the apoplectic rage exhibited by Alex Jones and his ilk, to know that it was very prudent of Piers Morgan not to have done the show in Alex' residence and within easy reach of 50 guns.
If you are going to have background checks on gun owners it is not only wise to stop the criminal element from having a gun but maybe one needs to consider as well the IQ or the rage quotient of the gun owner in deciding if the applicant is safe to have a weapon.
In my own town over Thanksgiving 2 brothers got into an argument over who parked their car in the driveway and who had to park a few yards away on the street. Both had guns and instead of throwing a few punches they shot each other dead in a fit of uncontrolled rage. How do you stop rage aka temporary insanity, which we all suffer from at times, from killing people unless you remove gun access from mainstream America as have many sensible Goverments.
There is so much irrational fear in the USA that guns of any kind are not the kind of thing to be so readily available.
I applaud Piuers Morgan for shining a light on a very ugly feature of American life and hope that this does not go away without concrete action from the public and Government.
The arrogant Morgan is milking this bogus gun control spew for all he can ...this is the only he can get viewers..So he doesn't care about facts but only liberal ideology, and his ratings. Support the "National gun appreciation day" on January 19th
I admire your program in fighting for gun controlled in USA.
According to Pratt's opinion that everyone should arm themselves, I should be ready to draw my gun out every time I am in the public area to shoot at someone or everyone (that is, if my reaction is quick like the cowboy in the movie, or the gunman doesn't have time to notice me yet) or caught in cross fire of any kind of causes.
Yes, the evil is in our hearts not in the guns.
But the guns should not be so readily available to those licensed sick-minded people, who can so easily grab a legal gun from his/her closet and walk out of the door and shoot at people.
no guns = no gun crimes! no cars = no motor vehicle accidents! no alcohol = no alcoholism and no drunk driving accisents! no showers and no tall buildings = no falls! ALL these things kill more mommies, daddies, little kiddies, and families than guns. FIX the real problem! personal responsibility. sandy hooks mom was an idiot for having guns in a home with a severly mental child, and idiot for having unlocked guns in the home of a severly mental child, and an idiot for taking her severly mental child shooting, call it what it is and stop blaming an inaminate object
"stop blaming the Inanimate object" – Just call yourself a big idiot and we will forgive you...
There are millions of stupid people who do not take responsibility and have guns. That is what this debate is about. We need laws so that those stupid people can not get guns. Get it!!!
Help us government!!! We are too stupid and irresponsible to think for ourselves. Only you know what's best for us.
Mr. Morgan- Someone needs to let the "gun extremeists" know that the governement is not trying to take away our guns, they arent allowed to do that. Rather they are trying to; as you say you support, illegalize the sale and distribution of "assault style rifles". In no way does it better America to put more weapons in the hands of looneys, as well ANYWHERE near our schools, but there in lays the problem. The real issue isnt what type of gun these people are using, the real issue is WHO is getting these tools. In America we have to have a lisence to drive, you're drug store reference respectfully; however to buy a gun you only have to be 18 years old. Piers, to your argument of who needs this type of gun, dont forget about one of our last "frontier states" where its necessary to own a gun, Alaska. This is an environment where you could be attacked by a bear, charged by a moose etc. These are instances where it would be very appropriate to have a repeating rifle -semi automatic, not an automatic rifle, which are only allowed by military and law enforcement personnel. Why someone recieving phyciatric care would need one and thousands of rounds of ammunition, well I fully agree with you. No need at all, however as Americans we have the right to own and keep arms, which means we can own guns. But to have a magazine that holds a hundred rounds and thounands of rounds at the ready... lets keep that for the Military. I wish you could find someone of the middle ground to interview Piers, but thank you to Mr. Jones for the laugh.1776? Are we revolting from England again? As a gun enthusiast I wish I could appologize to you on his behalf. If only this country could see past the political issues of this problem, perhaps we could actually find a responsible way to deal with this. You really want to eliminate gun issues, have returning serviceman looking for a job teach classes to the public about guns. You want to own assault style rifles, fine, but prove you know what you're doing. That applies to everything else in America, why not the most deadly tool available to us?? If you merely plan to just take these kinds of guns away from people, then you create a black market for it. Guns dont stop, just like the war on drugs didnt. Also dont over look death toll in Chicago, and keep in mind those are illegal guns. Just a thought ....
You are a gun enthusiast? Why do you lowbrow Americans need guns anyways? Please enlighten us on your infantile fascination with killing instruments. Cretin.
Mildly immature but okay, I'll go with that- How come America didnt push to outlaw box cutters, or airplanes. Were these not tools directly used in mass killings? In all fairness I believe the answer is yes. Why arent the chemicals used to make explosives outlawed? This is America, and you have the Right to be against guns and I respect that, however I have the right to be pro gun. I am a gun enthusiast, not an extremist. Guns are used to hunt and target shoot and to keep family and home safe. People who live in the city wont ever understand what guns really are, I just pray you people dont ruin that for the rest of us who rely on them. May I ask why you are soo apposed to reforming gun laws and ensuring that people who have no business having guns can get them?
Not sure if this is true but this was in the daily mail today "And the Mail on Sunday reported that firearms offences had risen from 4,903 in 1998 to a record 9,300 last year, an increase of 90% " .

Maybe once all the legal guns are gone it developes a black market for gun going to the bad guys.
Read the article! There is no citation of where they acquired those facts. There is no basis if those facts are valid or not. Are you so gullable that you will believe anything you read???
My statement was based on common sense and no stupid article on the web. I didn’t quote anything other than my own thoughts. When a bad guy is thinking about doing a mugging in the Wal-Mart parking lot, he has to be thinking about the possibility of that person carrying a weapon. He has to come from behind and sneak up to grab you. If you pay attention to your surroundings, then this can’t happen. No chance of a gun and the bad guy just walks up to you and says give me your money because he is bigger or has another person with him.
Is CNN trying to shut this debate down again? I am again tonight trying to post a response to Morgan's show and my first post as not appeared. Who else is this happening to?
More guns? Turn each person into judge, jury and executioner? What would you think if it was YOUR life in the balance of that judge's finger on an assault weapon's trigger? Many thanks for your sanity campaign, Pierce. Refreshingly brave. So badly needed. . We need you to stay right here in the US and help lead the way. Now.
Here is a fact that doesn't and can't get reported. How many times has the threat that you have a gun saved your life or acted as a deterrent to someone assaulting you? How bold are criminals when they know for certain that you are unarmed?
Let me say more. In a violent society the right to own and carry arms protects even the people that don’t choose to do so. So you have been enjoying the protection even if you didn’t know it.
I think I need a tank and a rocket launcher to "protect" myself from my neighbor who may have an assault rifle. Where does this insanity end???
Maybe your neighbor just has your back?
I have just tried to send my post again. No tinfoil hat promise, but the comment I want to post is still not appearing. What is going on CNN are you trying to stifle the debate?
CR, I see your posts. There are some links that will not post in the right place, but you are posting to the main board just fine.
Have lost ALL respect for Mr. Morgan after this interview. Was under the illusion that he was a journalist. Insulting a guest on his show, calling him an idiot, is more Jerry springer than news. Have some respect for your guest, regardless of your personal opinion of his view. I will not watch another of his shows if this is how he displays his journalistic talents.
Piers Morgan...Well done you! Sir, you have moxie and balls. In the face of outrageous and insane viewpoints on gun control, you shine like a beacon of common sense in this whole mess. So glad you can fully exercise your first amendment rights and highlight the gun lobby as the complete tossers they are. Honestly I have never in my life witnessed such idiocy as this. For all those wishing him deported, you are being very ironic. For all your kicking and screaming about your second amendment rights, you want the government to 'silence' him for his first amendment rights? That would be what they call a slippery slope. The killing of women and children is not enough for you to wake up?
Better get rid of all the military in every country in the world. They are winning in the body count of women and children.
Piers Morgan is not a journalist. He's an entertainer. His job is to get you to watch his show. To do that, he has to put on a show, create an act.
That's all it is folks....an act.
Bullseye,, I Agree,,Piers reminds me of a Frank Zappa Quote " Americans are fascinated with stupidity, so in order to be successfull in show business you have to come to terms with stupidity and learn to make it work for you" And If Piers Morgan isn't stupid I don't know who is.
Go home you foppish Brit. You are a ridiculous man who has no relevance to an American dialogue. Imagine if Larry King (your talented predecessor) were to move to the UK, yet retain his American citizenship, and attempt shape policy in order to force all Brits to get braces, or learn to properly cook meals, or correctly pronounce the word aluminum, or finally shrug off the old "divine rule" of your ludicrous monarchy like real big boys and girls, do you think that your misguided bretheren would be upset with a person such as this? You "sir" are engaging in sedition against the foundational principles of our Republic and this will be remembered by all sentient thinkers in this land. You are thusly labeled – agent provocateur. Now get the hell out of here.
MMMMM White House erred....does First Amndement apply to non citizens? Sureply Piers Morgan has breeched the terms of his Visa by engaging in politics, read the small print on conditions of Visa.
Just tried to post my comment again, I can see other posts other than mine have a appeared. What is going on CNN?
Once again I have just tried to repost my comment, but no joy, it's still not appearing. Why is that CNN?
Cr, it is all screened and sifted for 'real' information. They don't want the truth known.
It's amazing that these posts I've made complaining appear, but the comment I want to post still won't appear!
I feel a lot safer with armed guards in malls when I go to them, but the ones with no guards I don't go those.
Fukushima is still spewing radiation at massive levels into the air, water, and land.
Let me just ask this: When was the last time you said, "Where is my Gun"? I need to a: Protect myself or my family, b: kill someone c: ???? I personally can't think of a time. I got rid of mine.
So there are 3 hundred million guns in the US. That is one for every man, woman and child in this country. How in the world would we ever get rid of them? We can't. Stop making bullets. Make that illegal. At least for the high powered AR-15. What, you need to kill a herd of Elk at 100 rounds a minute?
Every day of my life I ask where's my gun, I need to protect myself. I live in a remote area where I am often alone and it takes the police at least 30 minutes to get here. And an AR 15 doesn't shoot elk. It takes a much bigger gun to shoot an elk, or even a deer. An AR 15 shoots varmints. And any invaders who break into my home. And no, I don't want them to have a faster gun than mine. I want to stay alive.
The 223 is not high powered. If you push it's limits, you can get it up to the 22-250 at best. The only thing that makes it different is the clip which is an accessory. And anyone shooting 100 rounds a minute has just trashed the barrel of an AR-15.
First off, could somebody please explain to me how criminals follow laws? When it comes to banning any form of gun, or the amount of ammunition it can hold, there are several things to think about. Piers is right about the number of guns currently residing in the United States. I'm not sure, out of that number, how many of those guns are assault type weapons. Now, if those assault type weapons were banned, where do you think they would go? Could you be sure that every single assault gun landed in the hands of law enforcement? Would every single assault gun be destroyed or shipped to another country? What makes you think that the simple status such as "banned" would keep those weapons out of the hands of those individuals that want them? Please tell me more about how much a criminal cares about the word "banned". Please tell me how banning a single category of weapons will prevent gun violence from any other category of weapons. If an individual truly steps over the edge of sanity to commit violence, they will find a way to hurt others. If they can't get an assault rifle, they will acquire a different type of gun (including pistols, shotguns, semi-automatic and bolt action rifles). If they can't get any form of gun due to a rejected background check, they'll find a way to buy, steal, or borrow a gun from someone they know. Even if all guns were banned, the individual would still find a way to hurt people. They could make bombs with household chemicals, use a knife, or even use a vehicle to cause massive amounts of damage. An individual over the edge that has a goal to hurt people will find a way to hurt people. The issue on violent acts such as mass shootings isn't the fact that it was a "shooting". The issue on these violent acts is the failed recognition of those individuals with the potential to commit these horrendous acts. Acting hastily on banning certain guns, or even all guns, won't solve any problems. Yeah, it will make some people feel better that American citizens aren't "supposed" to have guns, and sit there in an ignorant haze that somehow the word "banned" made all of those guns magically disappear. But for those American citizens like me, I fear for the safety of law abiding citizens that may lose the right to protect themselves against individuals out there that won't care one way or another if certain weapons (or all weapons) are banned. You can take guns out of the hands of those that abide by the law. But you could never make the guns disappear. They will always be there. But now they will be in the hands of those that don't care about the law and now realize that the risk of firearm retaliation against their criminal actions is decreased entirely. Of course, the premise of the whole thing resides in the banning of assault type guns and limiting the amount of ammunition they can carry. But that won't stop gun violence. The focus should not be on the regulations enforced upon gun buyers, sellers, and owners. The focus should be placed on people. We've all heard it, guns don't kill people; people kill people. Then it's said that people wouldn't kill people with guns if guns weren't available. All true. But people kill people, gun or no gun. You can agree with me or not, I don't care. But please think about how effective any sort of gun control could truly be. You can ban whatever you want. But you'll never be able to prevent violence.
How do you make a comparison between America and the United Kingdom in terms of population vs gun violence??? It is not a close comparison. Most recent census is 312.8 million vs. 63.2 million. And I am floored by Piers comment about "my country" in referral to the UK... excuse me, but you live in the US. If you want to support "your country", then go back there!!!
Lisa, you can easily compare the number of murders in countries with different populations by looking at murder rates, that is the number of murders per 100,000 people. In 2009 the murder rate in the UK was 1.2 murders per 100,000 people. By contrast, in the US the murder rate was 4.8 murders per 100,000 people. Simply put the US has a murder rate 4 times the rate in the UK. BTW, we also have nearly one gun for every man, woman, and child in the US (300 million guns or about 90 guns per 100 persons). In the UK there are only about 6 guns per 100 persons. Not so surprising that are murder rate is so much higher, is it?
Mr Morgan, you refer to the U K as your country. I think it is appropriate for you to stay out if our business in the U S and return to the U K.
Guns do not kill people, people do. the important thing to address his our mental health issues in the US and better background checks.
Criminals and mentally I'll people who want to get guns will get guns no matter what the rules and regulations. Disarming the responsible and honest American is not the answer. The left always attacks the law abiding citizen and ignores the real issue.
Please go back to the U K. We do not want you here.
I am so proud of Piers Morgan for addressing this vital matter...taking on the likes of crazy gun fantatics as Larry Pratt and Alex Jones while Peirs maintains his cool, has facts and figures to confirm that more guns does NOT mean more safety. Hats off
to Piers for letting the world know the truth.. I admire England and other European countries for not perpetuating guns in their
towns and country... and that LESS guns equates to dramatically LESS deaths. The semi automatic guns and any gun more powerful should only be in the hands of the military leaders and even then should be limited. Guns promote violence and death.
Citizens of the U.S. must be vocal in favor of gun control and promote GUN TRADE INS for goods or money. The recent mass deaths by young mad men with powerful guns is horrendous and can never be allowed to happen again. We must all take a stand. I am also proud of Joe Biden and Pres. Obama for forming the Gun Control task force. It's way overdue but not to late, for us all in the days and years to come. Piers, keep up the great reporting, brave and steady deameanor and courage for making this timely issue remain alive and in the forefront of discussion - you are doing a great service in the U.S. and to all of our citizens. Thank you, Piers.
Piers Morgan will never change his view. Until it's 3a.m. and someone has a gun pointed at his head, he won't get it. Then he'll be praying for a gun. He talks about the low GUN murder rate in England. Yes, the GUN murders are down, but murders as a result of knives and other things are up tremendously. He wouldn't let the guy get a word in about that. In a way i hope that Obama puts the gun ban back. It didn't work the first time, and it won't this time. The criminal won't be sitting at home watching CNN worrying about gun laws. People who get it, have already went out and purchased what they need. You anti gunners will be defenseless. Keep 911 on speeddial.
Blame hollywood not guns. Has anyone noticed the new "Texas Chinsaw Massacre"? There calling it "Texas Chainsaw" . What are they hiding?? The entertainment industry profits at the cost of the morals of our society!
Pierce Morgan went limp with Jones, and cried like a school girl after the interview now hes tough guy again. Gun control yes, but how much control and who does the controllling? I like utopia as well, but its a falacy, and attempting to achieve it is dangerous.
Lately as i read and listen to info spewed by antigunners its apparant that antigunners are against self defense because i never hear them mention anything about the countless cases of guns saving the lives of law abiding citizens targeted by criminals. There are numerous cases of guns being used for good. Now the media apparently have the power of Jesus Christ because the good stories do not receive the attention like the bad stories. Oh and for the record, please ban all vehicles operating on the streets of america because i am fed up with people dying behind the wheel or by irresponsible people with cars. How many times has a Honda Accord been used by a drunk driver in america within the last yr and the result was death? So i challenge the media to launch an effort to ban( assault cars). In closing, i have used a gun in self defense and i would use it again. Because of my availability of my firearm and my courage to use it, i was able to complete this statement alive and well in america without my name on a death certificate.
Piers talk about total murders NOT just gun murders. You are just playing with words.
+1 Scott. I think many people saw through his spin on that. The overall murder rate in Britain (gun and non gun committed murders) despite having a virtual gun ban, is one of the highest rates in Western Europe. Morgan just needs to look at his Home Office statistics to see that. According to UN numbers Britians murder rate is 40% higher than Switzerland, Germany and France, and interestingly all three of these countries are some of the largest gun owning nations on the planet!
Maybe in Britain they don't mind getting murdered as long as it isn't with a gun? Seems like you would have less murders in Britain if some of the folks getting killed had a gun?
CR, not sure where you are getting your info. UK homicide rate (murders/100,000) was 1.2 in 2009 according to the UNODC which is right in line with the rest of Europe (France 1.1, Germany & Spain 0.9, Switzerland 0.7). And while the UK rate nearly twice the Swiss rate, the US rate at 4.8 is 4 times the UK rate!
BTW, the UK murder rate in recent years peaked at 2.1 in 2002 and has been in a steady decline since then. In fact you could say the UK murder rate has declined by 57% since 2002.
If you are going to have "experts" speak on your show about gun control you should check their resume. I am a disabled vet and I am appalled by Gen McChrystal saying that he spent thirty years carrying assault type weapons. If the truth was to be known he has spent the last thirty years being guarded by real men(NCOs) carrying these weapons and he would not have gone half the places he went without that guard. Furthermore, I don't really give a damn about the murder rate in England or any other place except the United States. With that being said I served with Brits overseas and I can tell you that they do not share your views on gun control. I own a gun and I can tell you that I know how to use it as do many other americans. I am also not afraid to use it, whether it is in a school setting or out in the country. If the brave teachers at Sandy Hook had been armed I have no doubt that the tradgey we are now living with would be much smaller. This issue has nothing to do with whether a firearm has one shot or thirty, it has to do with keeping the weapons out of the wrong hands, period. Instead of parading victims across the screen why don't you parade the thousands of would be victims that precluded violence by having a firearm handy. I know you don't have the balls to air this but maybe it will help you think about what an ass you are making of yourself. It would also help if you did not have a bunch of non Americans on your show speaking about the issue.
Gen McChrystal giving us a leason in ballistics showed how stupid he is. Obviously he hasn't seen what we use hunting for coyotes. The ballistics of a 223 with NATO rounds is more for wounding and not killing. To be honest, it isn't a good deer rifle because the bullet is just way to small.
Someone actually said thank god i'm canadian as response??? That is funny as they have the worst health care system you could ever imagine, the highest tax rate, and gun crime is growing daily. Daily now we have murders using guns, Toronto had a gang shoot in a mall! We have like 30 million people vs 330 million in the states do some math and figure out the ratio comparable gun violence rate and you will see that we have huge issues right here in Canada....
Never give up your guns America!
Piers Morgan needs to apologize as he DID NOT have his facts right. He says 39 and Google says 51. Which is correct. Piers go back to UK and free up up an employment opportunity for an American. While your wagging your tongue why don't you ask Pres Obama to call off the inagrual party and spend the money on something for good!
Round 2 Larry Pratt takes it. Stop loving this guy America he is after your guns and doesnt care less about anything but ratings and making guess look bad and when a guest gets the upper hand like night he is just plain rude.
Earlier, someone wrote: "The primary reason for citizens to own military-style fire arms is so that they can defend themselves against their own government.". I get a kick from the people who think that their assault weapons is to fight back against the US government if the US government gets out of control. That thinking is 20th century thinking.
If the government wants to "get out of hand" against us, all they have to do, with the press of a button, is to zero-out all of our investments, savings, credit and checking accounts. They do not need guns or a military force to take our freedom. By taking our money, we lose our freedom! Try to buy food, keep the lights on, pay for needs without money.
These gun people simply do noy understand.
Learn from history mate
Zog if all freedom is to you is money then you will indeed be screwed. Talk about 20th century thinking.
I just want to say something about this executive order crap. There is a reason we have a group of people before something becomes a law. Taking a short cut to pass a gun law to infringe on the second amendment supports all these guys talking about government takeovers. I am starting to think that all this has nothing to do with the killings in Newtown.
It has everything to do with that massacre, and the 37,000+ other deaths last year.
Non-military people do not need combat weapons, for any reason. Certainly not self-defense or hunting.
I was in combat, and yes I needed to shoot and kill people. It was unfortunate. When I am in a bigbox store that sells these military-style weapons and I look at the people buying these over-kill weapons, what I see are emasculated men trying to prove to themselves they are 'big men', when actually they are just afraid little people. They need something to tell themselves they have great power.
If I was to have a gun to defend myself, it would not be a weapon that is so inaccurate as an assault weapon. From personal experience, you don't fire those weapons at a target; you 'spray' with them. That's what they are meant for. When you do that in a public place, you are going to kill other people in the area. It's all perfect non-sense.
If you need an assault weapon to defend yourself, you're a pretty disgusting individual. And what are you going to do? Carry it in your car next to you? Or carry it as you walk down the street? Non-sense.
I agree we don’t need these high capacity magazines, but what is an assault weapon if not the number of rounds it shoots? An ar-15 is just a semi-automatic 223. If we use the word “military-style”, my 30.06 hunting rifle won two world wars. You can get an ar-15 in .22 calibers. What the weapon looks like or the style of the weapon has nothing to do with the functionality of it. I think what I find alarming is the idea of an assault weapon or trying to ban certain types of weapons. As you said, the ar-15 isn’t near as accurate as many other weapons. I don’t have much use for one, but I don’t want to demonize a semi-automatic weapon unless there is something specific only to that weapon. The only thing I can find specific to an AR-15 over any other weapon is the magazine which is an accessory that shouldn’t be so easy to obtain. In fact, I don’t think you have to be 18 to purchase one at Cabelas.
I would have no problem going head to head with an AR-15 with a five round clip. If he doesn’t get me in the first few shots, I got him with an accurate shot to the head.
Why are you even thinking of shooting someone?
That's just insane.
If I am being shot at, I am either running or shooting back. Depends on the situation.
ricky you are a tool and a liar. #1 you clearly never served. #2 An AR15 is not an inaccurate weapon not can you "spray" anyone with it. You are "thinking" of a machine gun, which is illegal. I keep seeing your stupid replies and laughing. "No one needs a machine gun, whether auto or semi-auto." Really, ricky? A semi-auto machine gun? Fool.
If I want to own an AR15 and I obey the law then I should be able to own one. I don't need yours or anyone elses permission to do so. Chump.
Indeed I did serve. I'm not sure why you would say "you clearly never served". I served with 1st Bn/46th Infantry, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, a grunt, working off of LZ Professional, 1969-70, until wounded. I hold a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and other awards. Now where did you serve??? Actually, had you served as a combatant, you WOULD know that you can and commonly do spray with a fully automatic M16 (AR15). They changed that with the current M4 to save ammo. There is a third setting that allows for a burst of 3 rounds at a time, but you can still go fully automatic. The only difference between the two is the trigger pawl, which allows full automatic fire.
Now, you arrogant fool, the M16 in full auto is a machine gun. It fires at a high rate. For some very stupid and ignorant reason, you seem to think that only weapons such as an M60 or M240 or M249, or even an M2 (which I've fired a quad M2 on LZ Pro). So call it as you want, the M16 is considered a machine gun.
Now back to your sarcastic bull, just where did you serve, moron? So instead of your saying, "Thank you for your service"; you, my ignorant fool, accuse me of not serving. I just love arrogant twits like you. All mouth, no experience.
And Scott, you big mouthed uneducated idiot,
You can add to my weapon experience: I started with the M79, then the M60 (pig) (with a missing trigger assembly pin which means you could only stop firing by breaking the ammo links, with an M72 LAW strapped to my pack, then an AK47 until the trigger assembly broke, rarely a .45 cal pistol but when I was an RTO, and finally an M1 carbine because it didn't get caught in the vines of the jungle as easily as an M16.
So, please, I may be a 'chump' in your mind, but your mind doesn't count. My service does. I highly doubt you have served your country. Usually all these people screaming "It's my right!" never give back. They just take.
I have worked on a few AR-15 rifles and fired them. I wouldn't call an AR15 an accurate weapon especially after someone has burnt the barrel up ripping a bunch of rounds through it trying to look cool.
What Scott probably doesn't know is that the AR15/M16 isn't accurate because (1) the weight of the round (it was designed to be a 'tumbler', which means when or if it hit something living, the round start tumbling, tearing up anything in its way; and, (2) the barrel is short in comparison to accurate rifles. Similarly, the AK47 is inaccurate. It is due to the rotation of the bolt when it fires. Neither weapon is useful for accuracy firing or hunting. They are built to spray an area, whether in full or semi automatic mode, pulling the trigger very quickly over and over again.
The most important part that Scott and his fearful friends don't want to face is that no one needs a weapon that can fire 20-30 rounds in seconds. If you are shooting for accuracy, you don't rapid fire or need a large clip. If you are hunting, you certainly don't need to fire 20 rounds at a deer. If you are trying to defend yourself, by the time you could get that weapon into position to fire, you would lose. So what is the purpose for having one? I can only think of one: to bolster the low-personal-esteem of the owner. "I have a more powerful gun, therefore I'm a more powerful person." The male ego is so fragile.
The weapons they advocate are military assault weapons. It has no place in the civilian world. Ask any cop what kind of disadvantage he or she is at if people are walking around with powerful weapons. Is that what they really want? Picture it: Crowd of 100 waiting to get into a public event, and 10 of them have guns, and two are carrying AR15's, like the two clowns disrupting and scarring businesses and customers in Portland, OR. Are you sure you want to take that step closer to possible danger. And if your family is with you, .... sure you want to expose them to that?
There is a lot to be said for taking your time and making an accurate shot. I would say that most of the time the best course of action is to get out of the action. Take cover and look for a way out of the line of fire. If you are going to use a weapon to defend, you have a responsibility to everyone in the room to be able to make the shot without shooting anyone else other than the suspect. Being able to shoot 30 rounds doesn’t instill my confidence in that person being able to shoot good and not hit me. In fact, I remember a time when I used to hunt dove with a Remington 870 pump and thought I should upgrade to the 1100 semi-automatic. Let me say this, I shot a lot more rounds, but sure didn’t get as many dove. As for semi-auto and full auto, there really isn’t that big a difference if both have a 30 round magazine.
Come on Scott,
Where did you serve???
You accused me of lying, of not serving. Both are untrue. Too bad you can't say you served your country; the country that gives you all your freedoms, rights and liberty. So answer my question.
Didn't serve did you?
Didn't think so.
Hey Scott! Where did you go?
Hiding? Nothing to say??
Didn't think so.
The first Pratt interview was a net loss for Morgan. Having Alex Jones on was a shrewd restorative move. Morgan tossed it all away in the second Pratt interview by once again being a 'prat' e.g. shrill, badgering, and insulting.
I thought he did quite well. Mr. Pratt never once provided citations. Easy to quote data that is construed. Morgan's data was cited.
send this moron back to England....DEPORT.....
I would date say, he is far more educated and intelligent than you, dear sid.
First of all, he's done nothing wrong. He is fully within his rights.
Has anyone fact-checked Mr. Pratt's statement regarding the London Telegraph publishing the 900+ figure of deaths in the UK last year due to guns???
Personally, I wonder if he was trying to blow smoke up everyone's butt.
Support Piers wh gov PnGK !
Hooray for Piers Morgan and all those like him to have the guts to stand up and fight for gun control. Everyone I know is in favor of gun control but most of us are not as vocal as those waving weapons in our faces and demanding a right that should be seriously modified in light of 21st century weapons. These are not the weapons of 1791.
why would you believe anything that Piers says

Throughout time. And I am a nothing personal strictly business kind of American in all my wheeling and dealing, Buy , Sell, Trade , The Kentucky Trophy Bait LLC, Scott County, Kentucky and come Spring of 2013,,I'm getting my store an FFL license to frame over my cash register wall. Piers is a loud mouth wad mouth. Pratt is right on but couldn't get two words in without being insulted. He is intelligent, why he would go on that show! I will join the NRA and Piers can go back to England if he doesn't like it here!
Sandra, Pratt could not have been more wrong. He was wrong about the numbers of homicides committed with guns in the UK (Morgan was right), he threw in irrelevant comments about King George III and he was completely unable to provide a reason as to why assault weapons should be allowed. In which of his sentences was he correct? It's pretty obvious when a guest has to start attacking the person interviewing him, and making irrelevant comments that are completely off-topic that he's lost the argument.
May, King George III was relevant because he is why we have the 2nd amendment. King George was gathering up our guns. We needed them to fight tyranny. We still need them for that a la Kent State, Waco TX and Ruby Ridge when our own govt hunted us down and shot us. Meanwhile, rather than Peirs saying he disagreed with Pratt's figures, he got all hot and called Pratt a liar, etc. All you have to do is quote your source and let the viewer double check. Piers always get hot and name calls and insults. Except when Alex shouted him down earlier this week. Then, although Alex wasn't name calling or insulting, but only dishing out info in a loud manner, Piers has demonized him ever since. Piers comes from yellow journalism in England and will stoop to anything.
I enjoyed seeing Pratt shoot himself in the foot last night. As for Alex Jones. These guests are unable to put together a logical, coherent argument for the need for citizens to carry assault weapons. Pratt rambling about King George III as if the real problem is that England will try and take back the U.S. if the citizens of America are not allowed guns? Relax people, Piers Morgan is a journalist, not the English military trying to disarm the country so he can invade. I'm annoyed by Twitter comments from gun advocates pointing out irrelevant facts about England and other countries. Focus on the problem being discussed.
I find it bizarre that Pratt thinks the answer to gun crime is in having everyone carry guns. Think about this – in the Empire Building shooting last year nine bystanders were injured by stray bullets. These bullets came from the guns of highly trained police officers. How much worse would the wounded/killed statistics be with inexperienced civilians whipping out their semi -automatics? It's a fact, whether Pratt wants to believe it or not: gun crime in countries where civilians are not allowed to carry guns is a fraction of what it is in the United States. Indisputable.

Chapeau to you Pierce for your constructive criticism of what looks to the rest of the world as the OK CORRAL of America. This country really needs to learn to take some honest criticism of its Super Size Me Me Me Bigger is Best gun slingling BOZO mentality. Come together America; you can do it.

Thank you for scheduling Larry Pratt after Alex Jones so he could clear things up without raving. Piers Morgan & Co thought that it would backfire but no...instead Piers Morgan gets OWNED by Larry Pratt. Good stuff!!!
Thank you Piers Morgan. You have taken a stand where most Americans 'fear to tred'. The NRA has not only bullied the American public, but uses the curtain of the U.S. Citizen and the 2nd Ammendment as their 'battle cry', asking us to 'ignore the gun manufacturers behind the curtain'. I applaud you for taking on the 'gun addicts' on your show. They have demonstrated their idiocy and you have dealt with them in a better manner than most of us. I have seen the personality of 'gun addicts'. My former brother-in-law collected guns, to the point of big time assault rifles. He refused to go anywhere without a gun. When told he couldn't bring a gun in my home, he hid it and brought it in anyway. My father was a 14 yr Marine Corps Vet and a former police officer. Even though we lived in a horrible neighborhood in Philadelphia, with gang violence everywhere & police officers patrolling the halls of my Jr High, my father refused to have a gun in the house. He and the staff at any ER and police dept will tell you: guns in the home end up being stolen, used on the owners or are involved in a gun owner accident or suicide. It is time that our "right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" trumps the gun addicts right to carry a gun and kill us. Thank you Mr. Morgan.
Karen, I agree with you and your father.
These clowns say they need their guns to protect themselves, they usually claim from the government. That implies only one thing, they want to have their 'gun' to shoot at someone. Most have never been in combat, have never shot someone. They don't know what it is like when you have to take a life. It is something that never leaves you; and it's not a good thing. It doesn't make any difference why it happened. All that matters is that a life was killed, and many futures were destroyed. Not only was one life destroyed, but tens of lives were directly affected, all negatively. So when I hear this non-sense excuse for owning assault weapons, in fact any weapons, I just shake my head and know they have no idea what they are doing; and probably never will. They think firing a gun is like they see in the movies. It truly is not. So every day, we get more and more shootings.
We can change this. Write to the WH and your congress and tell them to put your liberty and rights ahead of the political contributions that they and their parties accept from the gun lobbyists.
Ricky, we are going to have to agree to disagree on total disarmament.
Weapons are a deterrent to crime. Criminals think twice before approaching a woman crossing the Wal-Mart parking lot these days. A complete ban on firearms will increase violent crime rates and increase your chances of being a victim of violent crime. Now, if what I am saying is statistically true, would you still be all for a ban on all guns? The facts are out there. Don’t let CNN be your only source of information on a matter that will surely affect your life. Changes like this will have an effect and you really should make sure you know what that change is going to be.
Have you forgotten the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed is because our own govt has hunted us down and shot us? Google Kent State, Waco TX, and Ruby Ridge. First they came for our fully automatic weapons. Now they're coming for our semi automatic weapons. They claim the AK 15 is an assault, military-styled gun. No it's not. It is a varmint rifle where you have to pull the trigger each time to get a bullet to leave the barrel. The military uses guns that are fully automatic, where you just hold the trigger and the gun keeps firing.
I can make an AR-15 semi-automatic fire more than a round a minute by simply pulling the trigger.
"Varmint rifle"? Really? You really are scraping the bottom of your imagination to come up with that one. That is too funny. ..."Varmint rifle".... LOL-I can't stop!
Kent State was 40 years ago, none since and the action of one lunatic officer. Waco was a case of a religious loon setting his flock up for suicide. And how many died at Ruby Ridge?
The AR-15 is the exact same design as the M16. The only difference is the trigger pawl, which is a small piece of metal that is easily replaced with a fully-automatic version; which, I've heard is readily available at many gun shows and on the Internet. So please (I know each weapon very well), don't tell me it isn't a military assault rifle. It is. It is obvious you have not compared the two, broken the two down and looked inside, and haven't fired both. And stop making yourself look like a complete doof by making such statements.
By the way, please read the complete, original version of the second amendment. At the time, 240 years ago, this nation could not afford, nor did the vast majority want a standing army. In place of that, they had state militia. The purpose of the second amendment was to allow citizens to have and hold arms to serve in the militia.
And, since you hate the government so much and don't trust them, what do you do when a member of your family has a heart attack or stroke, or gets in a car accident and is injured? Do you not call 911? Who the hell do you think funds that? Do you decline that help when it arrives? Do you forego calling them because you believe they will come into your home or office and raid you instead of taking your family member to medical help? Boy, I'd hate to be in your family!
Of course you don't. You have to decide whether you really want the government (it all comes as one package) in your life or not. I don't think you've thought this through very well. In fact, I'd venture to say, you are just echoing statements and ideas you've heard from others; given you never were personally at Kent State, Ruby Ridge or Waco, Texas. So tell us about the time you were someplace where a government raid or assault ACTUALLY happened.
I can make an AR-15 semi-automatic fire more than a round a second by simply pulling the trigger.

This man could care less about the future of our kids. He will not budge on his weaponry in order to keep us safe. My guess is that he is saying whatever he must say in order to stay in leadership position on the gun slinging totem pole. By the time someone with a gun realizes we are in danger, someone is already dead. Get with the program, 222 years too long to go without some advancement in our thinking.
COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER!!
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:
"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.
"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.
"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent
I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy - it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.
Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!
"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact.
What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs - politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws.
Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.
"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him.
To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA - I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"
– Darrell Scott
sorry bud, but you forgot the simple math the more guns the more chances of deaths, the larger the weapons the larger the amounts of deaths. We have a generation who sets these laws, who manufacturews sells and promotes, who were brought up by your religious beleifs. And you blame it on the kids. WAKE UP. Don't be so simple minded using religion to cover your problems , wakeup.
Turn your guns into bridges and the powder to explore beyond. And help those to find their place as to belittle they beside you is only wrong. Time to turn and nourish the young with peace, a new direction. Unite to strengthen the direction. Bring reality to the fore front. Don't let those few with the dollar rule. They know the dollar gives them the weapon to devide and conquer. Many at this time are arming the devided side with a deadly weapon while the oposite holds a cross and a rose. David will stand up to goliath one more time .
