Coming up this evening at 9, as the flu crosses the epidemic threshold this week, with one of the deadliest, strands of the flu virus ripping across the country, "Piers Morgan Tonight" invites Dr. Mehmet Oz to share his perspective on healthy living and protecting yourself from sickness and death.
When it comes to the flu shot, the famed television medical professional advises that "it's one of those smart things."
"In life there's some things that are predictable, there's some things that aren't," says Dr. Oz. "This is one of those events that I think it will be beneficial with very low side effects. We've got 130 million of these little vials out there to help people with. Let's take advantage of it."
During this hour long special in front of a live studio audience, Dr. Oz also gives tips on preventing and handling illnesses as well as ways to maintain general healthy living.

I also note that its primary use in conventional medicine is as a topical antiseptic, where it's desirable to kill all of the bacteria it comes in contact with, not just some of them. It should be clear this is not the case for something you're expected to ingest.

Would you please ask one of the pro gun advocates on your show the following questions:
If Mrs Lanza (sp?) did not own a gun, will she be alive today? Her guns did not protect her did it?
If Mrs Lanza had, say a hand gun, could the mass shooting have been averted?
Some gun owners say their semi automatics guns are meant to protect the owners from a possible tyrant government. Why don't they therefor advocate lifting the ban on fully automatic and maybe even more deadly weapons which will better 'protect' them?
Basically, some gun owners say rather than try to prevent assault rifles from ending up in the hands of 'bad people', let us let the 'bad people' own assault rifles, and then shoot them when they try to use it. Sounds like plan F to me.
What if people were held accountable for their own actions. How about we don't give the perpetrator so much airtime and make stars out of them. How about enforcing the laws on the books, i don't know where you live but the State Attorneys office here regularly bargains away the gun charges to get a guilty plea. They are more concerned with their conviction records than having to put any effort into the cases. Then again we could all hide our heads in the sand and blame the gun, it is easier isn't Concerned.

Please consider interviewing individuals who have an expertise in a subject area. Dr. Oz has obviously no clue about nutrition and exercise. There is very little data that says the macro-nutrients we eat have a significant impact on our risk for disease. In contrast an imbalance between caloric intake and expenditure in favor of more intake results in weight gain, in favor of expenditure weight loss. The amount of physical activity we partake in has a significant effect on our risk for disease and early mortality. Walking activities are great but is not sufficient. We must stimulate our musculo-skeletal system (especially our core muscles) using resistive exercises. We must engage in a well-rounded activity program to ensure all organ systems adapt.
The key to weight loss is the power of 500 achieved through reduced caloric intake and increased activity. Do this for a week and you will lose 3500 kcals which equals one pound.

Dr. Oz talks about obesity, it being the number one killer in America. People eating far too much and portion sizes in restaurants far too large.
Here's an adage my mom always used: Eat and fill yourself, don't eat and kill yourself.
A simple little rule that would save you all a lot of future grief. Mom always knows best!
Dr Oz's list of most stressful jobs.. I would have to differ on Firefighters vs Police and out of the two the most stressful job is of the 911 operator. You forget it is the operator who is the first point of contact .. has the action in the moment of the greatest heat... and has to calm it down ... listen to the fighting and yelling and abuse .. and stay on the line until the police arrive... and then stay on the line until the situation is quelled. Please dont forget to add these people and recognize the level of stress ... involved in this type of job. Plus it is a sedentary job.. you sometimes have to eat your dinner while you are working at the desk .. you have to work overtime.. and most operators work 7 days a week in some capacity – their shift plus .. and work ot on weekends or days off.. and these jobs are often held for 20 years or more.

Dr. Oz mentioned Mike Huckabee. When I ate lunch with Mike in 2005 he was one and a half men thinner than his profile looks now. He had the vegetarian entree. People have been poisoned increasingly since 1985 with frankenfats and bisphenol A (now they get Bisphenol S which is as bad.) – Arkansas was not a great place for food when Huckabee was Gov. even tho' he had access to good food as the Gov. Old Mike still has those franken-molecules from eating deep fried twinkies, sausage from cheap meats and cheap chicken. He will get some kind of adenocarcinoma if his resilience against cancer is average, he has his friends at Walmart and Tyson's to be thankful.
Okay, I do like Dr Oz, but my Dr friend just fell off the couch, as did my other Nurse friend who works in Cardiology. I'm rather surprised. I'm am 49 and have Cardiologist with CA Pacific Med Center. He is a leading Cardiologist and had been featured on national news. He, my regular MD, all my Dr friends, medical friends will tell you that 145 for LDL (bad cholesterol) is insane. Oz is correct on HDL (good cholesterol) being 45-50, but all medical people I have or know will tell you LDL should be 65-90, NOT 145.

Listen to your show on satellite radio and want to point out that Dr OZ stated that Rhodiola is Siberian Ginseng when in fact they are from two completely different plant sources. Mr. Morgan. I agree with you that assault weapons should be banned, but please report meaningful statistics. Since the population in the UK is much less than that of the US, reporting gun murders per 100,000 is the murder rate and a truer representation of the statistics than just the raw data. An apples to apples type of comparison.
That's why you have to wonder why the Swiss, Germans and French, who are ranked 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in the world, on a per capita basis, in terms of private gun ownership have homicide rates that are nearly 40% lower than the British. If we were to subscribe to Piers Morgan's argument that more guns mean more crime then these three countries would have significantly higher homicide rates than the Brits, but the don't. Clearly it is not the availability of guns in some countries that's the problem.
Although I am not a pro-gun advocate, there is something about the numbers regarding the murder rate in the U.K. that Piers keeps mentioning that isn't quite right. He refers only to England and Wales. No mention of Scotland, where Dunblane is located, or Northern Ireland, which has a long history of voilence. Why is that?
Scotland and N. Ireland report separately. You're absolutely right, to paint a true picture Morgan should be talking about total homicides – gun and non gun committed murders. Most of Britain's Western European neighbors are big gun owning nations with some of the lowest homicide rates in the world. Britain by comparison has a virtual gun ban and has a significantly higher per capita murder rate than all of its big gun owning neighbors, just why is that?
The thing that bugs me is, Piers keeps referring to the massacre at Dunblane, which is in Scotland, and about the handgun ban that came about afterwards and how gun related murders have dropped since then. But there are no statistics given for Scotland since that massacre occured or since the handgun ban was imposed. Does the handgun ban also pertain to Scotland as well or not? I'm certain, that if the statistics for Scotland and Northern Ireland were included, the murder rate per capita would be much higher. Just look at Northern Ireland alone. The history of extreme violence there, between the Catholics and the Protestants, is long and extensive. Things have settled down a bit over the last few years but tensions are still very high. It wouldn't take very much to get it all going again, I think.
