Scottie Hughes on the need for assault weapons: "Right now we might like our government, but...governments go corrupt"

A month and a day since an unthinkable tragedy in Newtown, Conn. shocked the nation, on Tuesday "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed a live audience, and a collection of opinionated and insightful guests, to offer their thoughts and reactions on an issue that continues to dominate the pulse of America.

Seated in the front row, Lou Palumbo was asked to detail the intricacies of the types of firearms used in several of the most-recent mass-shootings:

"These semi-automatic AR-15's cycle at such an extreme rate that they're capable of inflicting an immense amount of damage in a very short window of time," explained the former police officer.

Currently serving as the director of "Elite Intelligence & Protection," Palumbo went on to explain what he feels is the central concern within the entire conversation:

"We apparently need to address the vetting process that isn't in place for civilians that is in place for us in law enforcement. In other words, as a condition, I had to comply with psychological screening to get a handgun so I could work with it. The general public walks in with a driver's license, and in two days they walk out with a handgun. It's not sufficient any longer for us to know the only thing about you is the fact that you haven't been convicted of a felony."

Joining Piers Morgan on stage, surrounded by the audience, Scottie Hughes continued the conversation, but presented an alternate perspective, offering her explanation as to why all American civilians should be entitled to own assault weapons:

"Our Bill of Rights isn't a bill of needs, it says Bill of Rights," noted the "Tea Party News Network" News Director. "Let's look through history: right now we might like our government, but you've got Cambodia, you've got Russia, you've got Germany...governments go corrupt."

Despite having suffered a painful loss, as her brother was killed with a gun, Hughes supports the Second Amendment, and is against an assault weapons ban.

The host wanted to understand why:

"Just to clarify, you believe an American government in the modern age is going to turn tyranical," asked Morgan.

"I have the right to be able to own a gun just in case," she said. "We don't know what's going to happen. Today, we might have a bright, sunny America. But who's to say what's going to happen."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Morgan moderates a gun debate, with a live audience looking on, that represents both sides of the "Guns in America" issue.

        This is from wikipedia...
In June 2012, it was reported that Piers Morgan Tonight had the lowest ratings for a CNN primetime slot in 21 years. During the week of July 30, 2012 to August 5, 2012, the program averaged 314,000 viewers overall, with a mere 81,000 in the 25 to 54 viewing demographic. That average was the lowest week Piers Morgan Tonight has had since it debut.

They are talking about his show's ratings here in the US! No wonder Piers is desperately holding on to gun issues otherwise people won't watch his show!

Keep up the good work Pierce.
NRA has become a big bully in American Politics. Unfortunately people who support it dont understand that it represents big companies than AMerican Citizens. Even before Presidents makes his proposals, they are out there to get him. They are more worried about buisness and bottom line than second amendment. I believe in second amendment but I dont believe that military style weapons and high capacity magazines are needed in our dialy life to defend our self.
NRA supports measure like armed guards at school, strenthening mental health screening and reforming video game industry because it doesnot cost them a dime and in fact it improves there business. President should put his feet down and bang NRA and get them out of american politics. Good luck Pierce and god bless America.

Dear ANTICHRIST (Gun manufacturers, lobbyists, "extremists" and right-wing conservatives): As the now very dead Charlton Heston (former President of the NRA) once said: Quote: "... Out of my cold, dead hands...." End quote. Now after this horrifice Newtown slaughter of innocent children, We, The Mothers of these United States, would like to reply to this senseless and violent statement from the NRA:

"Better YOUR cold, dead hands.... than our children's!!!!"

So feel free to take us on.... Because "Hell hath no greater fury.... than a woman.... whose children have been murdered!!!" The NRA has underestimated the power of a mother's love for her children, but we have witnessed those teachers/principle in Newtown and their bravery and courage as they stood in front of "their" kids and sacrificed their lives for those children. The NRA has also forgotten one thing: We women have the tenacity of a pit bull and a mother bear when it comes to protecting their children....and to have the AUDACITY to ask us to turn our backs on those little children murdered and their families is the epitomy of EVIL. And to ignore Newtown and do nothing is the consumate voice of the ANTICHRIST. Which side do you choose to align yourselves with? The Devil? The ANTICHRIST? Or our children who deserve our protection? As the Bible stated... "there will be fear.... rumors of war...." and these Alex Jones, LaPierre's NRA degerates... ARE ALL THE ONES SPREADING THIS FEAR.... !!!

oh so we should just lie down and take it? if you want to be a victim your whole life, go ahead. it's just a shame that you don't understand that tanks, jets, and missiles alone will not take over a country, especially when the people of the country that you're trying to take over already occupy that land, don't have uniforms, and it's impossible to know who your enemy is until they're shooting at you. it wouldn't be a land war like WW1 or WW2, it would be guerrilla warfare like in Iraq and Afghanistan, where if we were to pull out today, the bad guys would take back over... that's the worst excuse I've ever heard... so all the military had to do the whole time to disarm us is make tanks and jets? really? no more rifles cause they got tanks! better just give up!

So I guess we will just sit back and let government take us over because we have NO chance in defending ourselves against tanks and missiles right? Wrong, I hate to burst your bubble but not ALL the people in the different military services will just go along with shooting their own people. Dont forget that most of us gun owners are former military as well, like myself a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Dont think for one minute that the government will just completly wipe out all opposition in one clean sweep, as former military people we have all sorts of neat tricks up our sleeves when it comes to combat, but I am sure you would know nothing of that as you probably have never served a day in your life for your country or your state. Also remember that almost every state have militas which are made up of regular everyday citizens many of which are former military, they are not the National Guard as some claim a well regulated milita is. It is a guarantee that us peons will put up the biggest fight the government has ever seen if it comes down to it. Just like those teachers in Newtown that gave their lives to save the children, we to will give our lives if need be to save our families lives.

Mr. Morgan did not seem to understand that the second ammendment was originally meant for the people to bear arms so that when their leaders start mandating rules rather than go through the normal checks and balances, they might have the ability to take their government back. The leaders of such governments do not want the people to be armed with large clips. Unfortunately, there will always be people who do bad things weather it is with a gun or not.

Most people are not qualified to have any meaningful opinion on the effect national policies like an AWB would have. I don't think mothers and fathers should ignore what happened however we have to realize that regardless of how they feel most aren't knowledgeable enough to form an educated opinion on gun control policy. I'm a chemical engineer and keeping thinking how this is a complex issue, the people who should really be involved in this national dialogue are economists and statisticians. Rarely do we hear discussions on the effectiveness of such policies. I just keep imagining what if this was an engineering problem and we had all this data from previous experiments and the people in charge of the finding a solution just screamed at each other how evil they are. What we see on main stream media and from politicians is so far removed from how this problem should be handled.

Checked out the owners manual of an AR-15 and found the following limitation.

Sustained rate of fire for the AR-15 is 12-15 rounds per minute. This is the actual rate of fire that this weapon can continue to deliver for an indefinite length of time without seriously overheating.

Bushmaster says to never exceed 45 rounds per minute.

Why does everyone keep pushing Bushmaster as the source of all evil? The guy had one & it never left his car, he used semi automatic pistols. It's fine to disagree on either side of gun control, but a Bushmaster was never fired in Newtown but keeps coming up in conversation. Why is that?

Certainly not because those EVIL... ANTICHRIST states (Virginia, Florida, midest...) that allow guns to be manufactured limitlessly, with no laws.... that get transported across state lines illegally.... will continue to flood New York..... You've got to hand it to those "Holy Rollers" down in the "so called Bible Belt" in the south who talk about being "born again" and "do the Christian thing" , go to church and try to "save other souls" when they themselves turn their backs on doing the morally right thing.... Stop the gun manufacturers from producing unlimited weapons of mass destruction in the name of the almighty dollar (GREED). These states should take a good look at themselves in a mirror for being the cause of the deterioration and demise of the United States of America.

Why and how are criminals getting all these guns? It is not from non gun owners or children. It is from either manufacturers, dealers, gun shows, owners who sell to any joe smo on the street or via the internet or from robbers who gain access to someones home where the guns were not locked in a safe. How many gun owners who sell their guns do a background check on the person buying their guns??? Probably none! How many dealers sell under the table to anyone. It is about time people who have, deal and or sell these weapons are held accountable. All the kids that have been killed by guns are dead because someone was irresponsible in letting a criminal have that weapon! How pathetic that someones right to have assault weapons supersedes these kids right to live!

Criminals are getting many guns through "straw man" purchases. These are people that have no criminal background that buy the guns to sell to gangs at a premium. Some dealers are working with them or at least are aware of it. The government should make stopping this a priority, but the ATF is so underfunded and undermanned. This is why I say to Obama "ENFORCE THE LAWS WE ALREADY HAVE ON THE BOOKS", do ya get it!

Margie I believe that you are taking this recent experience and making it all about that, but you need to also take lessons learned from the past. Most of these people that are doing shootings, the guns they have are either not registered, or illegally obtained. It has nothing to do with RESPONSIBLE people owning guns... and by responsible I mean law abiding citizens. So when you make guns illegal, only the law abiding poeple will see fit to follow the law... but what about those that are commiting the crimes, or not so law abiding... they will still get guns... we will still have issues and nothing changes except the fact that law abiding people now no longer have the means of protecting themselves. Look what happened in England a couple decades ago. They made everyone turn in guns... even if they were passed down through family generations. Who followed that? The government didn't take away guns that weren't registered from the bad guys and I know their morals didn't tell them to turn in the guns that were illegal. So now you have a country on your hands where crime shot through the roof and why because the good guys had no guns and the bad guys did. They now had the power to do everything that they wanted... they could wave a gun and get whatever they wanted because the knew noone would shoot them for protection... no one had guns.

Prime example... heroin and cocaine are illegal right... does that stop anyone? Can you still find it on our streets? Can I drive through the seedy streets of any city and find it... I sure can... but... but... but... it's ILLEGAL. Same with guns. Banning guns isn't going to do anything and we as a Nation are still going to have these problems.

Dilli, So basically you are saying that laws don't work. OK so next time I come to a stop sign I guess I'll just go through it, and when my insurance is due on my car I won't pay it cause those laws only hurt me cause I'm a law abiding citizen. Wow doesn't make sense! Why do you people still think that we plan and will take away all your guns when it's been specifically said that is not the adgenda. Dilli, where and how are these criminals getting the guns? They are getting them from other people who deal, use or sell guns, not the non gun owners. So somewhere, somehow, these criminals are being permitted to have these weapons because someone was irresponsible. So in order to make people responsbile laws for everyone need to be enacted (and yes enforced too) . Think of it this way, if laws aren't enacted then we can't punish those that make weapons available to criminals. So basically it's like saying it's ok to sell weapons to criminals and you don't have to be held accountable for your actions. Let's look at this mother of the shooter in Conn, she bought and acquired them legally, yet she encouraged her son by taking him to a shooting range (no background check done here on her son at the range) and she gave him accessability to those weapons. Apparently no laws broken here so even if she had lived we couldn't hold her accountable for her actions. What bothers me most here is that all you gun owners want your 2nd Amendment rights intact and expect victims and family of victims to basically just deal with your loss because there is no recourse. Oh well sorry lady that your little girl got shot multiple times in the face, (so much so that the parents couldn't see their child before she was buried) but our 2nd Amendment rights supersedes her right to live. This is exactly what has happened and I find it pathetic that our society tolerate this kind of insanity!

Dilli, This is for Margie. Margie I have been reading these post for the last weeks and I find a format for the gun banners. First and most glaring is the seemingly total lack of context as to the realities today or the historical realities of the planet we live on. Humana are ultra violent, we like to think of people as "nice" and "respectful" and etc. etc. and many are. The truth is though humans have no qualms about killing other humnas. I am not tallking about mentally ill here either, at least not in the way mos commonly noted. Humans will kill other humans for fun, sport, entertanment, tor the "excitement", because they are told to, for want or need., not to mention torture. What you need to fear most and history shows us this is a person like the shooter, or someone brilliantly devious, like stalin killing millions, because they have hundreds of thousands of "guns" at their disposal instead of 4 or 5 . Stalin said " one man with a gun can control a 100 without" I'm paraphrasing. Then look at our goverment today spending 52 cents on the dollar for "weapons" and the other nations arming also. Fix that first then come back to the civilian population. Also if you really want to do something outlaw alcohol. It kills 20,000 a year on the roads and is the NUMBER 1 killer of 16 -24 year old. What about that drinking age not working too well eh?

Dana, Where is their accountability in all of this? Dana, you know what I want to hear most from you people? I want to hear how you gun owners plan on preventing criminals from getting the guns???? What is your adgenda???? You need to do something different because you are all doing a lousy job of preventing criminals from getting the guns. What you are doing now is NOT working, the criminals are still getting the guns. You tell us to arm ourselves, that that is the solution. So now we not only have to have guards at schools but we have to have guards at movie theaters, malls, hair salons, any place we might work or go to outside our homes. So now we all have to live in fear because making laws and enacting them to prevent criminals from getting the guns just won't work because people don't want to be held accountable for their actions. What a society we have become. If this is what we have to do then we will no longer be living free because the criminals have had carte blanche in getting their choice of weapons., we will be living in fear for our lives. WOW!

Margie, What I want to know is what are you going to do about alcohol. 70 people will die today on the roads just so you can drink, When are you people going to ackowledge the facts – criminals don't feel as safe when the victim has a weapon. How hard is that to understand?? Goverments first disarm before they abuse and kill. What are you doing to get rid of nuclear weapon, nuclear weapons are INSANE. But that is the world we live in. We are not ruled by the lollipop kids, What are you going to do about depleted Uranium weapons, which leave horrible birth defects and health issues and our goverment denies, INSANE. Probably not on your radar. What are you going to do about our "money" being exchange for a "currency" and not basically holding the value of a stock certificate, so you can die by inflation?? Please try to look at the big picture, basically the people running around today are every bit as devious and just as intellegent as those 2 or 3,000 years ago, They just have new toys. You live inside the Zoo with the ANIMALS.

Your right. But sadly, these mentally imbalanced people who think the government is coming to get them, take their guns away, throw them into some sort of prison camps.... have "MASS HYSTERIA" which is how Nazi Germany "influenced" the German people to help Hitler create another World World.... (Just like Alex Jones....) So the only thing the NRA (Nazis Ruining America) is doing is spreading fear amongst these mentally ill people who are paranoid and delusional....and asking the rest of us to turn our backs on those Newtown children who were murdered as well as our own children.... Those ARE THE FOLKS WHO SHOULD NOT OWN ANY GUNS IN THE FIRST PLACE SINCE THEY ARE MENTALLY UNSTABLE and are incapable in making rational judgments... The ANTICHRIST/NRA is drumming up as much fear as possible... to help divided this country into "Us" versus "Them" and each side thinks it's on the side of what's morally "right" - sick, sick and sicker....

Piers keeps comparing muskets to Ar-15's in some demented attempt to convince people that we need to go back to throwing rocks and spears to protect ourselves. He is one of those bleeding liberals that believe that if you take the guns away from the good guys the bad guys will just be nice. Please give me a break Piers, you threatened to deport yourself back to Great Britain if we do not pass tougher gun laws, can I help you pack your bags? Can I give you a lift to the airport?
I watched your show tonight and every time someone pro gun tried to speak you drowned them out in argument and most of your speakers were anti-gun, your audience was obviously hand picked with victims who were pro gun ban but where are the victims who used a gun in defense of themselves and survived? This show as not balanced at all and was a joke, you obviously are going to do everything in your power to stir the pot on this issue and push for all the gun control you can get. I only hope you have a gun to protect yourself just like Obama has an army of guns protecting him. Since you both believe the bad guys are going to just play nice why dont both of you give up your guns and just declare a gun free zone around yourselves and lets see how well that works.
P.S. An AR-15 cannot have a magazine of 100 bullets but that is part of your kool aid trying to convince people that all semi automatic weapons can hold massive amounts of bullets which they cannot, they are not machine guns but you frame them as such in every breath on this show. You are a schmuck, go back to G.B. and spout your venom there.

They do make 100 round drums for the AR. The manual says to keep the fire rate below 45 rounds per minute on the bushmaster, but another manual said that continues fire should be 12 to 15 rounds per minute. They over heat and then you have a cook off round where the last chambered round just goes off from the heat.

But neither do I believe the government is coming to take me out of my house and put me in prison....???? What purpose would it serve to do this? Or any other crazy, delusional scenario the NRA (Nazis Ruining America) tries to conjure up to put YOU IN A CONTINUOUS STATE OF FEAR. Why does the NRA do this? Because FEAR is the way Satan controls a country. When you look through the lens of fear, you can't think logically or calmly because you're so anxious and worried, logical thoughts gets pushed out of your brain.... FEAR was meant to be a 10 second alarm to protect yourself with; not a WAY OF LIFE....

JOSH: You've hit the bullseye. The gun owners are divided into a spectrum of various groups: some are hobbyists because they like the machismo that comes with the barrel of a gun... like it's an extension of their manhood; some hunt; but there are some who are seriously paranoid and delusional, thinking that the government is coming to confiscate their weapons, which the NRA (Nazis Ruining America) just loves to keep lying about and spreading... since "FEAR" is the best way to control people who aren't very intelligent.... Gun background checks are useless, they can only "catch" convicted criminals, felons.... not the mentally ill... They need BOTH background checks and psychiatric evaluations. Talk about Nazism; the NRA wants everyone who has ever used a mental health provider to be on a list of people who shouldn't own guns... They better be careful with their duplicity before they shoot themselves in the foot (again)... because everything from "male E.D." to "paranoid personality disorder" is listed in the DSM (psychiatric manual)... as a "mental disorder" Stats say that if there are 4 million gun owners, out of that 4 million, 1 million can be classified as seriously mentally ill.... All the gun owners can look up these facts in the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV" which is what the law and psychiatrists use as "their Bible." or "NAMI" which advocates for the mentally ill.

Classifying guns in two seperate catagories is a mute point. If someone isn't able to get an ASSAULT rifle, I'm sure the same damage can be done with a pistol... I'm sure that some one can die with a .22 round. So Josh let me spell it out for YOU SLOWLY before you have to make yourself look dumb again. Banning certain classes of guns based on looks is just the thin end of the wedge. Britain first banned semiautomatic long guns and then 10 years later banned handguns. Gun control advocates have demonstrated this very tactic in every country around the world that has introduced restrictive gun control measures. The AR15 is the first on the list, the rest, including handguns, will follow that is guaranteed.

This is going to take more than just banning a weapon:

    1. Background check.
    2. Tougher gun laws.
    3. Better Mental Health care.

To Scottie Hughes, and other assault weapons "rights" supporters:

Why aren't you also arguing for the right to bear a squad automatic weapon, or grenades, or a shoulder launched missile? Heck, why stop there – shouldn't you also have the right to own a tank to protect your family and property?

Of course not – you are not allowed to bear those types of arms because they have no place in the hands of someone other than the military and law enforcement and there is no outcry from gun rights advocates over this. So why are you so hung up on high-capacity, semi-automatic rifles and handguns?

The woman in Georgia who recently repelled an intruder to her home while her husband coached her over the phone did so with a 6 shot .38 revolver. It did exactly what that weapon needed to do – it protected her and her family.

Yes you have a right to bear arms, but there has to be a reasonable line drawn as to which arms you can bear.

Im a United States Marine Corps veteran who served 2 tours in IRAQ. Do Americans need weapons like the AR-15...No they dont but they have the right to choose whether they want to pay for such things, most American citizens DO need to be trained on proper weapons handling and usage. We cant say the AR-15 or weapons like that should be taken off the shelves and take them away from the people because i have news for you. Gov Cuomo down graded magazine capacity from 10 to 7, As a Trained Member of the armed forces all i need is one shot and 7 is enough to do alot of damage. These people who commit these crimes TRAIN themselves and no one realizes it. If you pull the weapons from the house holds are you going to take away my semi auto .22 caliber with a 10 round mag? news flash a .22 caliber is the same projectile as on a 5.56 NATO round it just has a smaller powder charge. Hell anyone who has half a brain doesn't need a assault rifle or a rifle in general, a standard revolver with 6 shots if effectively used will kill minimum 6 people and one death is one to many. YOU CANNOT protect Americans by making them cower in the corner and HOPE the good guy with the guns shows up to protect them. By the time the call goes out and the personnel respond and a plan is put together to many will have been hurt or killed. Americans need to wake up and think about the way our lives are heading and where our Government is leading us. Im glad i didnt vote for Obama....And Governor Cuomo, you dont have my support ;)

I find what the director on the show just said ( I didn't catch his name) is the single most important aspect of this discussion. He contradicts Scottie by saying we have high mortality to guns or something and she argues we need guns and blah blah... I'm not sure word for word the convo. But what I get from this is...yeah we have guns and look how simple and fast it is to kill a single person or group of people. Take away guns and then per say the knife is the next weapon of choice. The whole process of stabbing, feeling that flesh contact is a much more personal experience and as of today that's a society we live in. There is much less person to person contact and interaction in society today, Facebook, Twitter, whatever else. It's as though everyone has lost touch with reality. Constantly on the phone, no interpersonal communication skills, nothing. A gun shouldn't be possessed by an unstable human. Guns are a quick solution to a single persons problems, but what underlies this are much deeper issues. Humans in society today have an inability to connect with REAL people in ways we used to. We, society, have an inability to look past the surface issues, to much greater reasons as to why every other day there's a shooting, or some other durasric disaster.

Piers I hear you ask the question about who needs an AR-15 and I have an answer. I'm from Texas and here we have a huge problem with wild pigs. Wild pigs cause a lot of damage to crops. My good friend that's a farmer had 40,000 dollars of crops destroyed this year alone. Pigs can have liters of piglets every 4 months and up to 20 piglets every time. Herds of pigs can sometimes number up 50 or more. We use lots of different methods of getting rid of them. Trapping, hunting with dogs and using AR-15 . I believe the AR-15 is the best way to hunt pigs because you are able to kill many at a time.

I would like to see how many ARs have been sold lately. We have flooded the USA with ARs in the last month and I saw a man the other day buying one that didn't even know how to load one but thought that he will be able to make a lot of money once the government bans them. He didn't own a gun safe. Getting Rid of ARs sounds like the people want a quick fix and there is no such thing. Do you know they make semi automatic shotguns and that you can get buckshot bullets that can have 9 large pellets in one bullet and can put up to 7 to 8 rounds in the shotgun?

This problem is going to be a process and real solutions should be thought of.

Like your post and well said. I also like the pig infestation reason a lot better than tyrannical government. I’m in Oklahoma. Pig problem here as well. A friend also sold his AR and got more than he paid for it several years ago. I will warn him about the pigs now that he is not armed like he should be.

I agree. I hope Piers will post this on his show. It seems no one can give him a good answer why anyone would have a purpose for an AR-15. Heres mine. A few years ago I started looking for a new hunting rifle because I was having issues with accuracy on higher caliber rifles. A 30-06 just inst for me. I wanted something that could be used on a variety of game, was semi automatic for quick follow up shots if needed, had low recoil for accuracy and was able to be customized without a gunsmith. The AR-15 was the answer. There is no other firearm that fit my needs. I own one 5 round mag for deer and one 10 round mag for coyotes. In fact this rifle is a great starter rifle for a lot of people. The low recoil and accuracy makes it a great hunting rifle for children and women, and I believe that is the reason for it popularity. That being said, the gun is locked in a safe when not in use and I would have no issue registering the gun in the future. I dont even look at this gun as a millitary rifle. I look at it as my trusty hunting rifle and I hope I can continue to use it in the future and I hope others can do the same. As long as its responsible. I have no issue with universal background checks. I have no issue with restrictions on 30rnd mags. And I have no issue with making guns like the AR-15 harder to get. But I do believe people should be able to obtain these firearms. Even I have an issue with how easy it is to buy a gun. To many people have no experience or safety knowledge to be able to posses something that can cause so much destruction. Trust me I use this gun for hunting and the .223 is absolutely devastating to flesh and vitals. An 18 year old who has been playing violent video games their whole life should not be able to buy one of these guns without gun safety training from law enforcement. Can you believe that someone who has never held or fired a gun in their life can go buy something that is designed to kill. I think its ridiculous. But qualified responsible people should be able to. Hope you read this Piers. Thanks

CLINT: Is the Dept. of Agriculture helping you guys in any way? Do you have a hunt season for pigs like hunters have for bear or buck?

Jas. pigs are consider a nuisance and there is no season. Pretty much a shoot on site. People also pay lots of money to hunt them on ranches. They even have it where you can us an AR and shoot them out of a helicopter. If people really think baning these weapons will "save lives" then they are small minded people looking for a quick fix.
How about this. In order to buy a gun people should have to get a CHL. I would gladly go get mine so people with no clue about guns could have some kind of trainning. If I wanted to sell someone a gun it would be an easy way for me to check to see if they are able to have one or not. This is a very inexpensive way.

It should be GOL/CHL. GOL meaning "Gun Owner License". You don't have to carry a gun. It would make sure people know how to use them and could also discuss topics that maybe a gun owner never thought about or wasn't aware of. Who knows if someone would have mention to that mother she should have a gun safe that might of helped maybe not. Education and accountability is what we are lacking as Americans. ;-)

Maybe why someone might want an AR-15 with a magazine of 100 might make them feel safe and secure against an intruder/criminal who more than likely has obtained his own assault weapon with several rounds illegally off the street, and the convenience when one is frightened would much rather have a faster and more powerful weapon for just in case because you only live once. Compare it to why do the rich live in gated mansions with security instead of living in a shot-gun house in a poor side of town or better yet, why do the rich drive expensive extra fast turbo cars rather than driving a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle when both car owners could possibly work at the same place and both cars just sitting in the parking lot at work, would it be their right to have a better car just because they have the right for their preference?

Seems that Morgan talks over the opinions that don't suit his purpose, so the other side never gets to clearly state their side of anything. He seems to ride on the emotions of the victims and their families. These poor families are in mourning & can't think clearly. My heart goes out to them and I don't like that they are being exploited .Leave these people alone.

Non Firearm Homicides 16,799 (includes hammers, clubs, knives, poisions, etc.)
    Firearm Homicides 11,493
This all in a country of over 312,000,000 people, guns kill less people than any other major cause, but is the greatest cause of discussion over the fisical cliff and even 195,000 killed through medical errors. Does this seem like something is not quite right here?
Over half a million are killed by Tobacco and we are fighting over disarming the public, almost twice as many are killed by other weapons and we are only concrened with taking guns away from those who do obey the laws. We have some of the toughest laws on the planet concerning drugs sales and use and what good does that do? I think everyone needs to take a moment to meditate on this sceniro.

    Mr. Morgan -
I am a DOD civilian, and a multiple-tour combat veteran, who still regularly deploys to war zones around the world. As a DOD civilian I am authorized (thankfully) to carry both a long rifle (an M4) and sidearm (an M11) to defend myself should I come under fire while "outside the wire". It is a reason like this that I believe a civilian should be allowed to own the domestic equivalent of a military assault rifle to afford them the opportunity to maintain proficiency with such a weapon in between deployments because we are not issued these firearms like soldiers to use with regularity in order to maintain a high level of marksmanship. I would hope you would find that reasonable as well. It's worth noting that, the military doesn't even issue magazines with a capacity greater than 20 rounds to the average rank-and-file soldier, so I can't get on board with a civilian needing anything beyond that either.

To be clear, I think that simply banning assault rifles doesn't address issues that will continually arise where an individual who is known to be mentally unstable is still able to obtain ANY firearm. If they hadn't done it with an assault rifle – they would've done it with a handgun, rifle or shotgun.

Your show I was watching just finished with the NRA commercial that you denounced as pathetic, though they do raise a point. At what point do we draw the line for who can be protected by force of arms? Not a rhetorical question. I think we'd all like to know what your thoughts are on when Piers Morgan thinks that you should be allowed to carry?

Hope something good comes from all this craziness.

One last point I would like to make. A lot of people talk about how many people are killed or injured by ANY firearm in a year whether it is intentional or accidental, and want to make some guns illegal. OK...then if we are worried about how many people get killed or injured in a year; then why are these same people not wanting to make cars illegal? More people die or get injured in a year in some kind of a car than with a firearm. More people die or get injured as a result of drunk driving, careless driving, driving while talking on a cell phone, falling asleep at the wheel, intetionally or accidetally running someone over. Is this the cars fault? Of course not; the fault lies with the person behind the wheel.

Yes, you would be correct in your line of thinking....However, unlike a gun, a car's sole purpose is NOT to inflict bodily harm or death. A car's benefits are numerous and, though bad things do happen, it is more of a positive than a negative.

Guns on the other hand, are when used as designed (whether in self defense or not) solely intended to inflict bodily harm or death.

But yes, in both cases, the operators of the car and/or gun are responsible for proper use.....

The more they keep making American's favorite movies of violence or filth and video games (which use AR-15 and several other high-powered weapons) in every war game they have out, there are always going to be someone that is really mental that wants to die playing the game for real, afterall, America accepts that type of behavior by allowing the production of making the movie and games. Why would a human being want to watch something so violent even if it is not real, why not just watch it for real? That is what the psycho is thinking, why watch when I can do!

With outmost respect Frank, in my opinion and am sure as a veteran you know the whole noise about AR15 is just a political move just to say they do something. Fine we can accept background check & 10 rounds mag but labeling Ar15 & such is a sham, majority of crime are with handguns and God help New Yorkers with there 7 rnds clip. You and I know even for a trained personnel when the heat hit the fan you might empty that clip without hitting Nada... Not to talk about ordinary citizen that have his or her door kick down middle of the night.
Why not tougher penalties for criminal caught with guns whether legal or illegal, why not protecting citizen with a law that makes shooting an intruder with force entrance legal and not the in the back thing, Master Serg the list goes on and on but the truth remains that taking AR 15 from law abiding citizen won't help nothing because criminals ain't turning theirs in. Here comes another lucrative loop hole for underground gun sale.

Morgan has an agenda and will do anything in his power to accomplish his goals. He comes from a country that outlawed guns years ago and now they have tremendous violent crime albeit not often with guns. Now he comes here because no one wanted him there anymore and brings his liberal pacifist views with him. He is rude to those he does not agree with and I felt Scottie was tired of getting talked down to and over so when she got a word in it was too much too fast. Andy makes a good point on handgun crime / murders. It's what is driving me crazy about this whole line of crap that is being pushed about the assault rifle. Yes, you could throw a lot of lead downrange at innocent targets with an AR, but as displayed in the Virginia Tech shooting – you could do just as much OR WORSE in VT's case with one or two handguns and a lot of pre-loaded magazines.

Not calling for a handgun ban, but it illustrates that the issue is with the wrong people getting access to these weapons easily, not that they exist. Better, more comprehensive background checks could help. Greater requirements for gun ownership might as well. The points made on several programs now that I have agreed with are that it takes quite a bit to be a car owner and operator, why not something similar for firearms?

The reason why is because of taxes. You pay taxes on your vehicle. If you register a firearm like you register a vehicle then they might try and make you pay taxes every year on something small in physical size like a gun. Then where does it stop? Make me pay taxes on my computer every year. Make me pay taxes on my TV every year. As soon as you start registering a firearm the government can try and make you pay taxes on it, and that is not right. Then the only person who can legally own a gun is a rich person, and that is not right.

Stan – Fair point. Hadn't considered the taxation part of it. Though I'm not entirely sure that it's an altogether bad thing. Sometimes a barrier to entry for something will make people take a second look at whether they really need something or not. I understand that it is a right to bear arms, but that doesn't make it a necessity.

But I do see your concerns for sure on jacking up the fees / taxes to the point that only a certain class of individual could own one legally. That would be flat wrong.

Ultimately, we still need to address the criminal element ease of getting firearms in the first place. I think you address that, the 'domestic arms race' would decline.

During this show it was mentioned that it was due to a gun free zone, and Mr Morgan shot that idea down. It has everything to do with being a gun free zone. Most mass shootings do happen in a gun free zone. It also has everything to do with the media. Publicity is everything. When was the last time CNN reported on local crime where one person was shot? You don't hear any of those stories on National Headlines... it has to be killings in LARGE numbers... that makes the National News. How do you get those large numbers before the shooter is killed himself/herself... go to a gun free zone where you have nothing but time to pull the trigger over and over and over... increasing the odds of being publicized... point in case Piers Morgan mentioned Adam Lanza, James Holmes, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold by name... who would know that persons name if he only killed one person... he got what he wanted. Everyone knows his name. Piers Morgan just proved my point.

And one more point on Alcohol... if one person shoots another they get life... agreed. But someones entire family can be in a car and get hit by a 2nd or 3rd time DUI offender... and the entire family dies... all the DUI offender has to do is plee that he was drunk and didn't intentionally target that family, it gets reduced to involuntary manslaughter and they have to do what 10-16 months in prison as a base penalty, pay a fine and get out on probation. It sure isn't life. But we want to attack guns?

As I watch my 73 yr. old father complete his umteenth Psychological Profile & Identification Form, an ongoing requirement for employment in American Nuclear Power Plants, I have to wonder why this complicated task is not required of any person who wishes to possess any such weapon of mass destruction?

It should be as simple as (or maybe along with) getting a driver's license. However, as most people couldn't pass these psychological tests that Dad takes on a regular basis, there wouldn't be many firearm owners at all, much less the military style weapon that no civilian needs to own! It's sick!

30 yrs. ago, two 16 yr. old boys played Russian Roulette in my rural rental front yard. They were the landlady's nephews who had a stolen gun. One of them died within 20 feet of my daughter's bedroom window. Where do you suppose those boys learned about Russian Roulette all those years ago... that's right TV and movies!

And... when will we finally admit that our kids are what they see and hear, and that when combined with our faulty healthcare system and failed education system, we will have this epidemic of violence, especially when we continue to feed them more artifical drugs and added food chemicals instead of nurture and nutrition? Read Dr. Gabor Mate's interview with Amy Goodman on democracynow.com to understand it better.

There is no logic in America and we are failing our kids!

      gywn

Russian Roulette can be played with any kind of gun so that kind of goes against the banning of an Assult Style weapon only, it goes a little deeper then that. I'm sure that anyone of these shootings that has happened in our nations history can be pulled off with any style of gun as most of them are done in gun free zones... i.e. schools, theatres, malls etc. Magazine capacity doesn't really come into effect because all they have to do is reload and they have time to do so, as it takes responders several minutes to get to the scene and get details on the layouts and mount a plan to take the shooter down.

Movies with guns and violence aren't the issue either, as even Walt Disney movies have a good guy and a bad guy and most movies have the good guy win by using morals or tact. So we might be able to rule that one out... I'll leave it on the table. Most of the morals kids learn should be through their parents... not TV and if you are leaving your kid to learn through TV, that person isn't a very responsible parent and some of these kids that bring guns to school, do get them from irresponsible parents... they are failing their children, and it has become an epidemic... people lack social skill with internet media, kids are more likely to be found playing their xBox or PlayStation vice going outside, riding bikes and meeting new friends.

HOWEVER, I'm a Nuclear Operator myself and the Psychological Profiles AND background checks are some of the hardest things that I have had to go through, and I couldn't agree with you more... Assualt Rifles aren't classified as Weapons of Mass Destruction, but if it shoots, screen them.

Thumbs up on the parenting aspect in your post.

It is unnerving to listen to people on your show; the selfish, paranoid people that are literally bad-mouthing safety. I have a question first; is that blonde, Scottie(?) who was on your Town Hall meeting show related to Alex Jones? She acted and sounded just like him. It appears the very people who are reacting so radically against gun control are the very reason for more gun control. Just witnessing their irrational behavior on your show proves how unstable these people may be! These people do not have a conscious. They had an excuse for every comment made about gun control and they did not hear a word anyone said. The blonde wouldn't hesitate twice to grab an AR-15 and start firing at someone entering her home before finding out if it was an intruder or a family member. I liked the last comment made by the man whose son was "gunned" down in the Empire State building. What would have happened if all the people there at the time had their own guns? It would be like the Wild West again. What do they think would have happened to the father's that fought during a youth soccer game? People are emotional and when they are emotional they become impulsive. Do the hot tempered parents watching their children playing a recreational sport have a mental illness? What about road rage? Will there be more deaths from angry drivers shooting people who wouldn't get out of their way than there are accidents? The people who are so angry about losing their weapons should be a first concern. Why are they so attached and stimulated by violence? How would they respond if one of their children, a relative, or friend were victims of a mass shooting? Would they be defending the assailant saying it was their 2nd Amendment right to gun down their child? People use weapons as a status symbol; "Look how empowered I am! No one will ever disagree with me again!" No one can give one good reason why they need to own an AR-15...unless they have a hidden agenda. Why are they necessary? Someone just give one really good reason you want that in your house. If guns are such a necessity to these radical people, give them tranquilizer guns. It accomplishes the same thing, temporarily, if the purpose is to have time to get out of harms way. Imagine, hearing an intruder enter your house...you grab your AR-15. You open fire, because all you are thinking about is not getting shot yourself; then, holding onto your AR-15 like its your best friend, (Rambo-style) thinking you're a tough guy, only to strut over to the body on the floor, look down to discover you just gunned down your child who got of school early? Is that how you define OUR 2nd Amendment right?

Why would a person want a military style semi automatic assault riffle like an ar15?
1, It is a good gun for hunting because it has a lightwiegt stock.
      2. It is good for hunting because it is higly accurate.
Most of these so called millitary style semi automatic assault rifles are just hunting rifles with a different style stock. If we changed the stock on some of them most people would think they are semi automatic hunting rifle. The media throws the words military style semi-automatic assault in front of them to sensationalize the story. Trying to ban military style semi automaic assault rifles is like trying to ban all bad guns. I can see trying to make gunshows screan potential gun buyers and increasing mental health help.

Dear Piers, I totally applaud you and your stance, and your most staunch and agressive approach to this most pressing issue. I do not know who Scottie Hughes is, but I believe, unfortnately, she is most misguided, maybe has a bit a listening disorder, and worse, has no concept of any basic commen sense or logic (I am an EE), and I am saddened by her sad rhetoric. I also believe the NRA to be so, so arrogant and am also saddened by their most defensive reaction to all of this. No one that I know of wants to take away the right to bear arms. But, as you say, again and again, and cannot get an intelliegent answer, why does anyone need an assault rifle? I do hope Obama and Cuomo etc can get support to start to get this thing turned around...however, it will not happen overnight. FYI, I have been so close to both the Virginia Tech shootings, (my son graduated from VT in 2006 and had four of his friends wounded), and also he and my other son are graduates of the Newtown School system, (again my older son has a good friend who is a school teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School and miraculously got out alive),.....just thought I would share....keep up your outstanding work

Any intelligent person should realize that the 2nd ammendment is no longer relivent. How do you protect yourself from the weapons that our military uses like smart bombs that are dropped from 30,000 ft and can hit a lightbulb in your house. With an AR-15 or your Glock? I think not.

You think “fight against tyranny” only means all-out war between the government and the citizenry... WRONG! Most of the time, tyranny creeps up gradually... Tyrannical leaders do not want public outcry, much less International attention, because if everyone notices what they’re doing, they have very little chance in succeeding. So they’ll try to do it as secretly as possible. For that, it'll be very convenient for them if we didn't have powerful weapons. Thus, their first step is to disarm us, that’s exactly what Hitler did. This is where the Second Amendment can save us. If the government wants to arrest a well-armed person, they'll have to send a SWAT team, then the entire neighborhood will realize something is going on. If that happen here and there to good people, the rest of the country will know something is wrong. And remember, we still outnumber them. For the government to suppress a large number of people “quietly” is not so easy, not when people put up a good fight.

Simply put, high gun ownership by the citizenry can make it darn difficult for a tyrannical government to form. That’s the brilliance of our Second Amendment.

Bob, i fear that any reason given with regards to owning a assault rifle is the wrong answer. What i think is an intelligent reason, will not suffice for you or mr morgan. I have my reasons for owning one, but you and others may not agree with them. thats the beauty of living in a free society. Why does anyone need an SUV, a car will get you from point A to B just as well. The beauty is we all have a choice, and in fact, a right to make a choice. Simply put, what is good for you, may not be what is good for me!! I live in a state where the gun ownership process is extremely strict, i had to take courses, i do get a background check and a fingerprint scan every time i purchase a firearm, I am limited on what guns i can and cannot buy, I am limited on the magazine capacities, and, i have NO PROBLEM with this process, it is the law in my state, I do however, have a problem giving a so called "Intelligent Reason" why i want to purchase a firearm that is legal to own. why must there be reason? why must a law abiding citizen have to defend their choices?

Piers kept asking the question and insisting he didn't get the answer, "Why do you need an AR-15 style weapon or high capacity magazines?". I have an answer for you Piers. Right now, I don't. As a matter of fact, at this very instant, I don't need any guns, nor do I need a fire extinguisher. I don't need an emergency room. Right now I don't need health insurance, auto insurance or home owner's insurance.
All these things have something in common though, I would rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them.
Nobody can promise me that a police officer will be there when I need him most. Nobody can even promise me that there will never be an interruption in 911 services for an extended period of time. Nobody can promise me that there will ever be a time when I am facing multiple armed adversaries with no help on the way.
Just like I can't promise you that I will ever need an AR-15 or high capacity magazines, and believe me, I truly hope I never do, you can't promise me that I never will.

Sorry to hear Heather that you live your live through the lens of fear. How does it feel to be afraid 24 hours a day 7 days a week? No doubt, you're projecting your fears onto your children. This a mentally imbalanced way to live life. No doubt, you've had experiences with violence to be so afraid. I can hear it in your words. FEAR was meant to be a 10 second alarm; NOT a way of life... When you live in fear, you live in blindness. Yes - violence is out there and we need to protect ourselves from it, but to turn your back on those Newtown children who were slaughtered.... when you too have kids.... is a very ignorant, myopic, dangerous way of thinking. How can you call yourself a "mother" when you've turned your back on those Newtown children who were slaughtered and have no compassion or empathy? And by the way, Piers Morgan was the one who wasn't able to get a one in edgewise with that degenerate Alex Jones, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!! So stop lying; becaues almighty god is watching everyone who aligns themselves with the ANTICHRIST. The NRA is asking you to turn your head and ignore those murdered children in Newtown. If THIS isn't the ANTICHRIST, I don't know what is.... So go ahead and align yourself with the ANTICHRIST... and may God have mercy on your soul.... In light & love.... FOR THE HIGHEST GOOD OF ALL....

Scottie has aligned herself with the devil, the ANTICHRIST. She spreads fear and rumors of war... (just like the Bible said would happen)...and is doing only one thing: dividing this country, because the devil knows that a divided country is one that can easily be destroyed.... She and the rest of these devils (Alex Jones, LaPierre, etc.) have created a war against the innocent and helpless.... (children) and against the United States of America. They tell us the best way to protect our innocent, helpless children is to (1) Buy more guns; (2) Lay in wait for a crazed gunmen; (3) Have a shootout & hope for the best; (4) Mop our children's blood off the classroom floor..... (IF THIS ISN'T THE ANTICHRIST, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS...!) DO YOU?

The AntiChrist doesn't need a gun, He just needs gun laws. The "antichrist" will do his real wonders through banking. It kind of works like this. You go to word and spend 8 hrs. (time) and energy ( breakfast and lunch) and produce or are productive. You spend some but not all, so you need a surragate, a place to store your Time and Energy. this was once gold and silver because it took Time and Energy to find, mine and refine it. a good amount of time and energy because it was "rare" . Along comes the central bankers who do away with this and even testify before congress tha "gold is not Money" I guess it is not for practical purposes today. Still you have excess capital or production. and a need to park it someplace. Now you have a "Federal Reserve Note" which is a fiat (let it be) currency backed by a strong navy and it's reserve currency status (for now) and the fact that most oil is traded in dollars. Oil has in a way replaced gold. Otherwise a private company, the Federal Reserve, unaccountable to anyone to audit or oversee gains control of the "money" supply. A nice place to be. Here they influence goverment actions by extending credit, Then they do this all over the world in every country. Later they coordinate and form a one world currency, in the Bible I think, and pretty much control it all. I don't think weapons that humans have had since the days in the cave are the problem.

    Piers:

Your show needs to address the CEO's of the companies who make these instruments of mass death. Who are they specifically? Talk to them about the possibility of no longer manufacturing semi automatic weapons, extra large clips and these cop killer bullets. Do they really need to produce these weapons to make a profit? Do hedge funds own these companies? If so, are they OK with the carnage their products cause? Put them on the spot.

Let's see who is profiting from these guns. No more free rides for these Captains of Industry who seem to care more about the bottom line than our kids safety. Ask them why they didn't put a moratorium on the production of these semi automatics after Newtown? It was within their power to do that.

Are these overseas manufacturers? If so let’s hit them with major import taxes / tariffs. Let’s tax guns like we do cigarettes. Folks have given up smoking because of its prohibitive costs. Maybe we can get them to do the right thing and drop their interest in semi-automatics as well.

Most weapons used in these deaths are illegally purchased. How about enforcing the gun laws we already have and go after the "straw Men" that are profiting from reselling guns to the criminals and the FFL dealers that turn their backs on this just to make a buck. Fund the current gun laws by expanding the under staffed ATF before we add new laws that won't be enforced.

I was very disappointed in Tuesday night's gun debate on the Piers Morgan Show. He continued to engage Scottie instead of listening to other guests on the show. The policeman said psychological evaluations are conducted before a cop carries a weapon. Piers Morgan did not pursue that. Another captain commented on the number of handgun shootings on city streets surpassing mass assaults. Piers Morgan glossed over that point. While I agree with him that assault weapons should be banned, I feel he did not have a productive debate/discussion about the subject. He continually interrupted guests to push forward his agenda. While his heart is in the right place, his ability as an interviewer lately leaves something to be desired.

  65. Gunowner worried about gun violence and the NRA

    Piers – consider/explore this:
    - Did the word "infringe" mean the same thing in ~1800 as it does today? Is the word being applied today completely out of context?
    - This NRA/Gun techno speak that "military style assault rifles" must be capable of selective or full automatic fire complelely misses the point that US infantrymen usually fire their selective fire M-16s/M-4s on semi-automatic because full automatic fire wastes precious ammunition and increases the chance of collateral damage. In actual combat usage, selective fire M-4s are are usually employed in the same manner as the civilian semi-automatic AR-15, in the semi-automatic mode. Consequently, in usage, there is little de facto difference between AR-15's and M-16s/M-4s.
    – There is NO need for civilians to own semi-automatic rifles that fire assault cartridges (usually, 5.56mm – more powerful than a pistol round & less powerful (and heavy) than a 7.62mm/.30 caliiber service rifle round) equipped with more than a five round magazine. 20/30 round magazines were invented for and intended for military application.
    – Civilian ownership of these weapons and 20/30 round magazines, by a tiny portion of the population, DOES jeopardize the of Life, Liberty and Happines of the entire populace.
    – Those worried about tyranny might really be worried about our changing society and demographics – there is a degree of xephobia in this – the internet reaks of this.

      Gun Owner:

Here is something to think about if you are worried about numbers of people killed or injured. I served active duty in the United States Marine Corps from May 2001 to May 2006. I am also a full time police officer, and been in security/law enforcement for 15 years 5 of them in the Corps. I have been a part of more vehicle incidences involving serious bodily injory or death than I have been involved with gun incidences involving serious bodily injury or death in the civilian world.

So you might be thinking that making cars illegal is absurd. I feel making semi auto rifles and handguns illegal is absurd. If you outlaw these type of guns then only outlaws will possess them. You say there is no need for civilians to have them. I disagree, because I own an AR15 and I have hunted with it. I have shot cans with it. I have shot watermelons with it. Shooting the AR15 is fun. I use it responsibly. I use my AR15 like another person may use a shotgun to shoot at clay targets. What we need to do is enforce the laws that we already have. What prosecuting attornerys and county attorneys need to do is prosecute to the full extent of the law and stop allowing charges to get pled down. Like the man who killed his grandma with a hammer then shot at firemen coming to his home to put the fire out after he got out of jail. He was charged with murder 1 for killing his own grandmother; then it was pled down to manslaughter. By having the charges dropped down allowed him to get out of jail instead of staying in.

What a bunch of fools. If you disarm the citizens of this country, it will become wide open to foreign invasion and we will be absolutely helpless. It takes time to mobilize our military forces and civilians may be the only resistance regionally if we are attacked on all side. I, for one, refuse to be placed into a position of utter helplessness. I sleep very soundly at night knowing that I at least have a chance to defend myself. Yea... I may die during an attack, but at least I'll have a chance to protect my family. Get Piers Morgan off the airways. Who is this fool to promote his opinions about my country on a stage in a forum that I don't have access to. If Piers doesn't like the way this country is set up, let him leave. The AK-47 has killed more people than any other rifle. While it isn't the most accurate weapon, in close combat it is very reliable and cheap to get. When you think about it being invented in 1947 and it is still a major player in current war time, you have to call it a very successful invention. I read somewhere that it kills 250,000 people a year.

The AK is a 30 caliber weapon and hits harder than the 22 caliber M-16. It isn’t as accurate and if head to head with an AR, the AK shooter is going to get hit in the head. Proving once again that 100 misses are not near as good as one hit.

Grade 1 through 12 school should require mandatory viewing from all students to watch the real videos of school shootings, no matter how bad, awful, or scary it might be to watch, but teach each and every student to be aware of bullies at school whether they are the bully or see someone else bullying someone, that way they can see the effects of a bully and how it could cause the victim of bullying mental distress, which could, for someone who is emotionally a weaker person, cause them mental health issues that turn into anger until they snap and seek revenge. No matter what ban of certain weapons, etc. will stop them from getting revenge if they want. A simple homemade pipe bomb will kill more.

Among the reasons of resistance to tyranny, foreign invasion and civil disorder the most prominent on a yearly basis by region is:

Your need for an "assault weapon" is just a flash mob away.

Also, people in the border states suffer a foreign invasion every day, by illegal aliens but worse by the drug cartels using them as mules. Several US citizens have been killed by them, yet the Obama Administraion saw fit to allow the cartels to get many fot he same weapons they want to ban here.
