With the 57th Presidential Inauguration only hours away, on Sunday night Piers Morgan took the show on the road, hosting a special edition of his primetime program from the nation's capital.
As Barack Obama officially begins his second term in the White House, "Piers Morgan Tonight" invited historical analysts, American icons, and political pundits to share their insight and perspective on the next four years.
With Monday's pomp and circumstance falling on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, nearly 45 years since the civil rights leaders death, Morgan asked Maya Angelou about the significance and timing of the occasion.
"What do you think Martin Luther King may have said to Barack Obama if he was still alive now?" asked the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host. "What advice do you think he would have given the president for his second and final term of office?"
Pleased with the inquiry, one of America's literary treasures offered this prediction:
"Thank you. Thank you for that question," said the 84-year-old author and poet. "I think Dr. King would have said 'Continue. Be loving and be strong. Be fierce, and be kind. And don't give in and don't give up.'"
Having praised both the late Dr. King, as well as the commander-in-chief, the author behind such famous works as "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and "On the Pulse of Morning" extended some additional kinds words in the direction of the host:
"I thank you so much. I've been wanting to talk to you since you talked to Oprah [Winfrey.] I have wanted to meet you. You are brilliant, you are fine," said Angelou to Morgan. "You too have courage and insight because you are insightful enough to see that she was intelligent and you are courageous enough to say you knew it."
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Angelou further shares her thoughts on a trio of praise-worthy men: Barack Obama, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Piers Morgan.

If only for Piers Morgan, i find it worthwhile to listen to CNN. He IS brilliant indeed and courageous to confront red necks on his show (specially for gun control : that was a beauty)
morgan got kicked out of his old job for unethical reporting so he comes here to do the same practice, and your calling it beautiful? your a flake!
If you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're" and using the wrong one doesn't immediately make you stop and correct your error, you're clearly not intelligent enough to make judgements on his character based on a story you heard about him second-hand.
What is your definition of a "redneck"? From your comment above it sounds as though gun owners are all rednecks. Any truth to that interpretation?
Dr.Angelou has been my inspiration for many years. There should be more people in the world like her. She is wise, courageous, inspiring and beautiful. I love her dearly
I don't think MLK would say anything due to a couple of facts: First, MLK was a staunch Republican and stood firm on principles and who didn't care for LBJ AT ALL as the Democrats continued to balk at equal voting rights in 1961 and 1962. Secondly, MLK was PRINCIPLED and with Obama supporting gay marriage [which is unbelievable] which opposes all fundamental ethics of MLK's Baptist heritage, there is no way MLK would have even supported Obama like his niece who's very active in the GOP.
Sir you need to get your facts straight, MLK has NEVER publicly endorsed any political party or presidential candidate. His purpose was fighting for equal rights. That whole "MLK was Republican" story happens every election season when white conservatives try and gain the black vote by confusing african americans because they know they can't get it any other way. And you have no idea what MLK would support if he was alive today, people views change everyday and if you don't change with the times you'll be left in the dark. It's not about gay, black, or white, its about individuality. Because at the end of the day your opinion really doesn't matter, we'll be judged by the god we serve.
Piers brings a freshness to American television, more known for its brashness
can you do a show on canada's aboriginal population and the idle no more?
Knowing this history of the slave trade and the current zionist agenda I can only say that I think Maya has been brainwashed or comprised or is senile to think this guy is brilliant. What a dissapointment that Oprah and now reading this Maya have been. Looks like they are under the influence of power and money.
CNN needs to proofread before posting. We as a county have just inagurated the 47th president of the united states.
I believe they are saying this was the 57th inaugurations, not the 57th president.
Michelle – you made the comment that CNN needs to proof-read their content before posting? Interestingly, they are correct in stating the 57th Presidential Inauguration.... And unfortunately, you need to proof-read your own comment before attempting to correct a journalist "We as a county" - Sorry but the word is "country". LOL

Morgan is "brilliant"?! Please....Piers Morgan is as "brilliant" to the left as Shawn Hannity is "brillinat" to the right. Both are ideologues and about as useful as a screendoor on a submarine. The Left shouts garbage...the Right shouts garbage and the only intelligent people are somewhere in between. Let me know when you all come up for some much needed air....
Right on the money.
While I am a fan of Maya Angelou I feel that maybe she doesn't know that Piers Morgan is a CRIMINAL who played a part in phone hacking of private citizens in the UK.
Obama is very decieving. Don't you see what he is doing to this country? There will not be a United States of America in ten years.
Question, Is it an illiteracy on the part of people who judge others for the color of their skin. why should black people be judge for having more vitamin D in their system than others? can vitamin D prevent them from thinking and acting like others (white, pink, orange and blue people) ?
Don't assume bad things about people because they are different.
If you are prejudice – rethink your intelligence level, having a bachelor Degree does always count for common sense.
Pier Morgan-is brilliant and he has courage to ask the tough questions. Thank you so much CNN to have such and wonderful and inspiring Jourlialist on air.
Piers, when critics attack you, or frustration with events becomes overwhelming, remember these words from Maya Angelou, and it must surely make you feel better. I can imagine no greater compliment than hearing this remarkable woman give you such validation! Congratulations, job well done, and thank you.

Were you looking in the mirror when you said that? If so, we all agree.
Hello. This post was extremely fascinating, particularly because I was looking for thoughts on this subject last Wednesday.
