Kelly Ayotte on Hillary Clinton's testimony: "So many questions that went unaswered"

Tonight, Sen. Kelly Ayotte talked to Piers Morgan about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's testimony at the Benghazi hearings earlier today. There "is still so many questions that went unanswered and frankly some unsatisfactory answers," the Republican senator said.

Clinton said "she was clear eyed about the dangers and threats in Eastern Libya but then she said that 'I didn't see any of the security requests,' which were multiple, coming from the consulate," the New Hampshire senator began. "If you are clear eyed about dangers and threats from Eastern Libya, why weren't you asking the questions about 'do we need more security?'"

Ayotte's concern lies with how situations like the attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya are handled in the future:

"When we address what happened here and going forward, we also better address, how are things communicated up the chain of command and why, when you know you're clear eyed about the danger, do you not ask 'have their been additional request?'"

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Ayotte explains why she was unsatisfied with Clinton's answers today.

That this person is a U.S. Senator is all we need to know about the state of affairs this country has reached. My, how the mighty have fallen and she's a perfect example of that standard. Her faux grandstanding is appalling at best and she doesn't have a clue except for what has been fed into her insipid brain.

Is this not the American way to try to disgrace some one who was not responsible for what took place but let Bush get away with the killing of over 5000 in Iraq and killing over 2 millions innocent people by his lies looking for WMD. Are you going to call for an enquire?

No, you don't want answers. You made up your minds long ago that there was some cover up or other motive. Keep believing it if it makes you feel good. Do you believe the same about Bush? Did he use the WMD as an excuse to go to war and make the "boys" some money? Were WMD used to cover up the real reason we wanted to get the war machine moving.

Your both right, she does not have any more information about the actual situation than Hillary Clinton. Hillary made some very important points which Sen.Ayotte failed to mentioned,no suprise.Ms. Clinton's point about the dead Americans was very important, because the issue was that , their job was to make it STOP,not to worry at that point as to who did it. Any resposible government takes the time to find the real truth, not the "truthers" version before jumping to rash conclusions and acting irresposibility. You don't run out and start shooting people and screaming terrorists, even when it turns out it might be,cause you might you might just be wrong.

AGENDA? Like the Republicans did not have an agenda 2years before the election? Like they don't have an agenda now? They are thinking 2016 elections and "just in case Hillary Clinton decides to run". I am , by no means, disputing that the Democrats have an agenda as well. The entire govt. is about agendas which is WHY we can't get any work done. Both Senate and House have taken the tax dollars of working Americans to pay their salary and have done NOTHING! If we tried to get paid for doing nothing, we wouldn't have a job! I wish their paychecks could be held...no work=no pay! THEIR pay should be based on performance....not posturing.

I agree. The Tea Party did us a service by pointing out the national debt caused by Bush's irresponsibility, but this wild fringe drama is from the theater of the absurd. How is all this going to look ten years from now? Does the GOP not see that they are being set up like a bowling pin when people like Kelly Ayotte, Scottie Hughes and Dana Loech speak? Do they not realize that Obama won handily, and if he had been white, he would have won by a landslide? If the GOP hopes to even survive, they will have to get these Tea Party folks calmed down.

So the fact that this administration lied and sought to cover up incompetence at the least doesn't seem to both many in the media. Four Americans died and the administration that vowed to find out what went wrong has done very little. A mere 15 years ago the media would at least ask hard questions. Now they mock the House for daring to. Sad.

OTOH, rumors among the military are that this was a botched effort to stage an election surprise. Might explain why they were told to stand down.

Riiiiiigh, JPO.... so the US Government hired terrorists and ordered them to attack their own personnel, and told the Army to not interfere and then went around lying about what happened and didn't.

Oh my, let's also get grey man, invisible helicopters and the argument the President is soviet, and we'll have another excellent conspiracy theory.

Nevermind there 14 attacks to US embassies and consulates since 2002, this has to be the one ordered by its own government. Oh no, unless..... NOOO..... perhaps all the other attacks were cover-ups too! By Area 51!

One of the better questions asked in the hearing was "Why did the Ambassador go to Benghazi?" If he had requested so much extra security, why would he go there when he knew it wasn't well protected. It wasn't the embassy–just an outpost. That's a question that will never be answered. Hillary Clinton was busy performing her duties world wide. It isn't unusual to think she would not necessarily be reviewing all the requests that come into the State Department. Kelly Ayotte is just trying to get her name noticed.

GOP has had nothing but questions since day one – what they are really complaining about is that they are not getting the answers they want. The GOP has questioned everyone from the Leader of CIA, Joints Chief of Staff, State Staff, Agents, Underlings, Susan Rice, and Now Clinton, and their witch hunt has borne no fruit – Their misguided attempt at once again attempting to embarrass POTUS has gone the way of the GOP over the last 4 years, NOWHERE!!!. Take care of the business of the American People and and stop wasting everyone time with made up conspiracies.

She's right. Piers is jumping the gun and being dramatic. I cannot believe the Secretary of State actually stated under oath today (and this is not an exact quote) something to the effect of....we have four dead Americans and what difference does it make how they died, whether it was because of a protest or because of guys out for a walk one night who who decided they'd go kill some Americans. What difference, at this point, does it make. Sharp response, but dumb answer as the US Secretary of State. I am the wife of a soldier, and it makes a big difference to me because I'd like to know that my government will go to great lengths to protect its citizens and soldiers, here in the US and abroad. Clearly, it all went wrong in Benghazi. The government owes it to those who died in Benghazi and to those who put their lives at risk at US Embassies or Consulates elsewhere in the world to learn from Benghazi so we are best prepared for future attacks.

I believe you missed the point Hillary Clinton was trying to make. We already know the HOW, the Accountability Review Board submitted the findings of their investigation as to the ppl responsible for communication failure on the US end, The point she was trying to make was they need to focus on the SOLUTION to make sure this never happened again. To keep going over and over the "talking points" provided by the Intelligence community is an exercise in futility. Focus on the solution was what Clinton was trying to get across.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Hillary's protestations that the manner in which the four men died, making no difference, are obfuscation and deceptive of her complete failure to manage either the response and her complete incompetence to respond to an assault on our sovereign ground. Her inaction and subsequent evasions are particularly offensive to the memory of those who perished and I'll warrant damned little comfort to their families. Her complete abdication of duty in response to Obama's alleged orders to his National Security Director to provide every means of assistance to the besieged embassy staff indicates either he lied or the alleged response would have been counter to the web of lies he spun attesting to the American people that Al Qaeda was decimated. We should never forget the miserable betrayal of the embassy staff in the time of their greatest peril. Her feigned emotion over the returning bodies is insulting to their honor. Would that Sen Paul had held higher office, she should have been cashiered from position if not found guilty of dereliction of duty. She is a shame to the nation.

I suppose Sen. Ayotte needs to let the rest of her caucaus know that she is on their side, but her grandstanding is not impressive. I don't think some in Congress would be satisfied with any answers. One can have a little sympathy with Sen. McCain as he was apparently a friend of Ambassador Stevens, but Ayotte and Paul are just trying to keep relevant.Of course no cabinet Secretary reads every urgent email that is received in their offices, I'll be Paul and Ayotte don't read everything marked urgent that comes into thier offices either. Secretary Clinton has moved with great dispatch to implement recommendations from an independent commission to correct the problems at State. I have seen no effort on the part of Republicans in Congress to do the same for the part they played in this tragedy. Sen. Paul may have political aspirations, but he would have to do a lot better to impress this independent. I thought Secreatary Clinton demonstrated what a class act she really is today.

Republican, Democrat or Independent – What does it matter? Why do such discussions always have to involve partisan sensibilities, and their attendant rancor?

These questions being asked are on behalf of the American people – "We The People" should like to know why Americans were (firstly) put in harms way by the actions, inactions or oversights of their government? Why that government (secondly) then sought to avoid addressing the the mismanagement, miscommunication, ignorance and other sundry dysfunction that contributed to said tragedy; dismissing it as a random (ergo, unavoidable) act of violence – An accident, if you will?

Furthermore, this government has maintained diplomatic missions overseas, for well over a century – ""We The People" wish it explained how is it that there is an absence of an established protocol for dealing with any and all communications addressing threats of escalating local violence, the likelihood of attack and other related security issues?

One would have thought that in light of the fact that September 11 seems to be a "hallmark" date, as regards the intentions of a group of enemies (real and perceived) that this government should, from now and forever more, remain alert to the probability of attack from such elements on or about that date.

If indeed these, our fellow citizens and fallen heroes, are truly to be honored, it should be that they haven't perished in vain – That their sacrifice may bring a greater clarity and honesty and transparency as regards our shortcomings in such situations; that other lives may be saved.

This conversation should not revolve around blame and flippant retort – This should be a respectful process which seeks to bring clarity to, and acknowledge, and correct those weaknesses that exist, that they may never be revisited.

How memories are forgotten! Iran in 1979:embassy stormed, hostages taken. How resolved? The Great Reagan won the 1980 election by making a deal (secretly) with the Iranians: guns and money for hostages. And now the Republicans are making noise about Benghazi? Bring on Chaney so some more secret deals can be made! Get real Americans!

This woman is a fly-weight. It is excruciatingly obvious that the problem lies with budget problems which are handled by people above her pay grade. Ask the Committee Chair people who have denied, year after year, the funding necessary to maintain adequate security around our diplomatic posts.

She might be a fly-weight but the ultimate joke was this Dana Loesch woman. How in the world, Piers, can you allow people like this to talk over you the way she did? You need to push the button which shuts off her mouth while you say something.

I'll say this - whenever I am inundated by voices talking over one another I instantly shut the sound off and, more than likely, go to the computer for some far more elucidating input. Think about it. You should not allow these morons to drown you out. If they can't take their turn shut them off.

Our fight Is with those who perpetrated the heinous slaughter of American lives. when the facts are clearly laid out, we have plenty of time to see our failures and try to improve upon them so it does not happen again.
