Saturday Night Live Spoofs Piers Morgan Tonight

For all his profile pieces in everything from "The Daily Beast" to "CBS News," there is no media forum which truly signifies Piers Morgan's assent into the pulse of American pop culture more than a recurring presence on "Saturday Night Live."

During the final moments of Tuesday evening's show, the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host opened himself up for some good-natured ribbing, rolling footage of the most-recent NBC sketch to spoof CNN's favorite British television presenter:

As actor and comedian Taran Killam cued up his best British accent, and sidled up behind a very serviceable replica of the program's infamous green-themed studio, he began:

"Good evening. I'm Piers Morgan, or as you know me, the British Mario Lopez. This week, a series of shocking and confusing revelations. Who lied about what? Who is still hiding the truth? And who - what - huh - who - you - what - who..."

When the footage concluded, there stood the real Morgan, with a live audience – not knowing whether or not it was appropriate to laugh – sitting behind him.

Reviewing Killam's effort, the host shared his thoughts:

"Honestly, I don't know what a who - what - who - woo - woo is," said Morgan, referencing his easily-impersonated tendency to blurt out a series of high-pitched, repeating inquisitive words. "Anyway, I'm definitely better looking than that joker."

Piers appears to really be losing it over the gun debate. We all have opinions and he has a right to express his. The fact that he is obsessing and systematically interrupts his guests trying to intervene with his opinion is getting out of hand and increasingly unprofessional. Being unprofessional is the worst that an anchor can do. I hope CNN management will get him back on track.

I don't watch CNN too much but the little I did see of Piers interviewing some right wing radio wingnut, I thought he was very restrained.

Your comment is the most accurate assessment of Piers Morgan' irrational & unprofessional behavior that I've read thus far since he started on this rampage. And your right...he IS losing it.

I would implore Piers to refrain from acting like he is such a firearm expert when it is obvious he is not. The fact that his brother is is the British military does not make Piers an expert..Case in point, he routinely brings up the point that the AR-15 is simply a killing machine because it can fire 100 rounds in 60 seconds. The fact is that this firearm fires one bullet for each time the trigger is pulled, no more. Any semi-automatic firearm can do the same. So what the public needs to understand is that if you want to ban firearms simply based on the number of rounds they are capable of shooting the ban will include most all firearms except bolt action, lever action and revolvers. Good luck with that.

@TRich – did you guys lost completely your common sense? Are we at the point in our history when you, the gun-crazy, demand us to shut up until we become gun specialists? You guys are the death of freedom in America.

I have never hear Piers say that his brother "is" the English army. Or did you only make it to the third grade?

First, yes made it past the 3rd grade. Funny coming from a guy who calls himself "Jimbo". Secondly, I did not tell anyone to "shut up" I would like to have or would like to see an intelligent discussion about gun control but find it hard to do when Piers and others like him have little to no idea what they are talking about. One does not have to be an expert on firearms but should at least be somewhat informed on the subject. Piers is not.

Pierce gives voice to all the Americans truly frustrated and embarrassed that the world sees us as bullies, who confuse freedom with the ability to use assault firearms. We live in the 21st century.

Stop taking America back to the years when we got our independence and the guns were justified!!

He's from England, where they have roughly 1/20th as many gun murders as the US, and about 1/8th that of Switzerland, per 100k people. This is the case because it is hard to get guns, and shooting someone is never really legal because you weren't supposed to have the gun in the first place. Pretty basic logic really, Most brits think our obsession with guns makes us brute beasts with no understanding.

I agree completely. He is so self centered he doesn't even realize that he makes every topic about himself rather than about intellectual discussion. I stopped watching him since his whole gun control debacle. I do believe in protecting the 2nd amendment, but I don't even own a gun. Good bye Piers.

I saw the interview he did with Alex Jones... nobody could remotely accuse Piers of trying to interrupt him. Piers couldn't get a word in edgewise, and he didn't really have to. Jones made a better argument against his side than Piers ever could... he was a raving, bigoted lunatic who apparently thinks we're still at war with Britain.

I have to say I was never a big fan of Larry King UNTIL CNN brought in Morgan. He is absolutely the most nauseating anchor there is. Seriously, that's all CNN could come up with to fill that spot? I cannot watch him do any interviews. I watched CNN for most of the day for Inauguration highlights, once Piers came on in the evening I was done.

He comes from the true free world – his free thinking it's hard to digest in a country in which the tea party movement was possible. A part of the world where people have long vacations and are not willing to take any amount of cr-p from an employer just because they can't afford to loose their jobs and remain without health benefits.

When the European actors want to do brainwashing (Hollywood type of) movies and earn a quick buck (from the masses of stupid viewers) they come to America. I've seen both worlds, only those who lived at least one semester in Europe will know what I'm talking about.

I've always considered CNN the premier news outlet for mainstream media news but I've begun to see changes I don't like in the style of reporting. CNN is becoming much more restrictive on posting comments. The writers and TV people are appearing to be much more biased and are promoting an extremely political agenda. To what end? For what purpose. For ratings? For viewership? The real HEADLINE news style that made it great is dead. CNN is just another popularity contest now.

We love you Piers Morgan, You are a hero in my heart. You stick up for the innocent and have done so with great bravery. Hero's are not the ones who shout and call for more blood or who simply say we can't do anything about it.
The ones who look the other way or simply accept murders as a way of life are cruel to say the least.

Terry, what a nonsensical thing to say, implying you know every Brit; what are you 4 yo? There goes to show the intellect of your crowd, the average gun enthusiast. Actually the Brits love him, because he risked many times his status just to stir things up and point out failings... Keep watching the Anderson Cooper, with his 80% trivia reporting, so you won't even remember what true journalism even means.

So where do we go from here pierce? Kind Regards Yorkshire love you pal!
Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....
Here are some real figures from Down Under a similar thing happened in the UK. Dread to say it but might happen here to. These are true facts that follow

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing the Australian tax payers more than $500 million dollars.
... The first Year results are now in
Australia – wide, homicides are up 6.2 %
Australia- wide assaults are up 9.6 %
Australia – wide armed robberies are up 44% YES 44%
    In the state of Victoria
Lone, homicides with firearms are up by 300% ( Note that while law abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and the criminals still possess their guns !!!)
While figures over the previous 25 yrs show a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically.
Upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that
    THEIR PREY IS UNARMED !
There has also been a dramatic increase in break ins and assaults on the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politician's are now at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was Expended in " successfully ridding Australian society of guns-–
You won't see this on American News or hear your Governor or Members Of State Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience speaks for its self. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives, and property, and yes, gun control Laws affect only the law abiding citizens.
Take note friends! before its too late! Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in?
WHY?? YOU WILL NEED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, if you lived in Australia you would know the gun laws actually changed well over a decade (and two Prime Ministers) ago, after the Port Arthur shooting in Tasmania. Since then murders are at an all time low. Check your facts and save us all your erroneous rant:

I read your fact check Matt. Some of what you said is true, but the facts given on the link you gave only go up to 2007 which was before the complete gun ban in 2008. The article says that certain gun restrictions (not bans) led to lower gun crimes, but it doesn't give anything on the ban itself. You are as misleading as the person you replied to.

Get this guy off the air! It is one thing to stand on your views, but as an interviewer, you have to be able to look at both sides. In his interview with Ben Shapiro, Piers said that he backs American's rights given by the second ammendment, but later in the same interview, he says it would be stupid to think the American governemtn would ever turn on its own people. I don't think America will ever get to that point, but to say it is impossible is ignorant. The second ammendment was created for this reason. I also don't like how Piers will say that if you don't back his ideas, then you clearly don't care about the 20 dead kids in Connecticut. This is absolutely rediculous. This is an issue clearly split down the middle (with a lot of grey there), and saying that you don't want stricter gun laws has nothing to do with caring about those kids. Everyone was hurt that day. As an interviewer, I expect a little objectivity, but Piers brings people on his show to deliberately belittle them to help his cause. Watch the interview with Shapiro as he calls Piers out on everyone of his rediculous tactics.

When Brits think about the average american they think stupid, meaning precisely the type of person who spells ridiculous as "rediculous", as you did, and spend a large part of their lives on a couch with mind numbing evening shows. Of course someone who stirs controversy for the sake of an uncomfortable argument, like Piers, will not find a friend in you.

When is the last time you said someone should have to justify a "need" for their right to free speech? The Bill of RIghts was written exactly for people like you. It is to protect the rights of each citizen from the mob mentality that say "I don't see why you need that so you should be able to have it."

if a person wants to analyse in-depth the gun issue comparing crime/accident statistics in canada vs US would probably be the best comparison. i would take seattle against vancouver canada because theres no sense comparing washington dc against victoria canada . i have no idea what the numbers are so look it up yourself

Haha, SNL is a koke; they had "guts" to thrash Sarah Palin when she was running for VP, but were very tamed when it came to the stupid remarks Romney made before the election. I used to watch them, but their "playing safe when we needed them" disappointed me.

SNL, pick on someone who's "hard to bite on", not someone who's already down, you cowards!

first of all, you don't have to be an expert to have an opinion on gun violence in america. secondly, have you nticed the gun lobby 1) keep changing the subject when asked a frankly logical and simple question 2) use phony statistics 3) appear irrational and unstable – and it's frightening that these nuts actually are permitted to own a gun. they need a psych evaluation.

piers- you're great. keep up the good work. our news people AND POLITICIANS are a bunch of wusses. the gun lobby is irrational and stupid and nutty and thanks for calling "a spade a spade" (oscar wilde – importance of being earnest.)
