For all his profile pieces in everything from "The Daily Beast" to "CBS News," there is no media forum which truly signifies Piers Morgan's assent into the pulse of American pop culture more than a recurring presence on "Saturday Night Live."
During the final moments of Tuesday evening's show, the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host opened himself up for some good-natured ribbing, rolling footage of the most-recent NBC sketch to spoof CNN's favorite British television presenter:
As actor and comedian Taran Killam cued up his best British accent, and sidled up behind a very serviceable replica of the program's infamous green-themed studio, he began:
"Good evening. I'm Piers Morgan, or as you know me, the British Mario Lopez. This week, a series of shocking and confusing revelations. Who lied about what? Who is still hiding the truth? And who - what - huh - who - you - what - who..."
When the footage concluded, there stood the real Morgan, with a live audience – not knowing whether or not it was appropriate to laugh – sitting behind him.
Reviewing Killam's effort, the host shared his thoughts:
"Honestly, I don't know what a who - what - who - woo - woo is," said Morgan, referencing his easily-impersonated tendency to blurt out a series of high-pitched, repeating inquisitive words. "Anyway, I'm definitely better looking than that joker."
