Clips From Last Night: Steve Kroft on Hillary Clinton running for President; Dana Loesch compares the AR-15 to the M-16

On the heels of Sunday's sit-down conversation with President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" invited Steve Kroft to share his first-hand insight and perspective on two of the most sought after interview subjects in the world. Discussing the political future of the outgoing Clinton, the award-winning journalist and longtime "60 Minutes" correspondent offered his predictions regarding a possible 2016 push for the presidency.

"If she's healthy, I think she'll run," said Kroft. "If she's feeling good and she continues to age well, I think she'll run."

"But, you know, that's sort of the unknown," continued Kroft. "She's 65. And I think it just depends on how she feels and whether she thinks that she has the energy. Not just to be president for four years but to go through the campaign that she would have to go through to maybe not get the nomination, maybe get the nomination, but to get elected."

Meanwhile, Monday also saw conservative radio host Dana Loesch return for a visit with Piers Morgan, and this time she produced props, using a gas station lighter to demonstrate the difference between an AR-15 and the military equivalent M-16 rifle.

"If you're trying to somehow equate AR-15s with machine guns, the two are completely different," said Loesch, while igniting the plastic weapon replica. "The difference between a fully automatic, an M-16, which is the military style, is that you hold the trigger."

Watch the clips and listen to the interview, as Kroft talks Clinton, while Loesch talks clips.

Hey Dana, oooops, looks like the cat is out of the bag.... uh-oh.

"CONARC sponsored the development of a .22 military rifle and asked Winchester and Armalite to come up with designs for a high-velocity, full and semi auto fire, 20 shot magazine, 6lbs loaded, able to penetrate both sides of a standard Army helmet at 500 meters rifle. The competing rifles were:"

"The Armalite Division of the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation, Costa Mesa, CA was established in 1954 for the sole purpose of developing military firearms using the latest in plastics and non-ferrous materials. It's team of Eugene M. Stoner – key designer, Robert Fremont – prototype manufacturing supervisor, and L. James Sullivan – who oversaw drafting work had been they key developers of the AR-15."

The M16 is a full size weapon, 40 inches approximately. The weapon shown on your show is most commonly known as an ar 15 because it is the "carbine" version of the m16, and the modern one issued to U.S. troops is designated the M4. Piers has gone on and on about jolly ole England and it's fun laws, and why we don't need assault rifles. I do believe he is concerned with the deaths, but as this Roman Catholic he proclaims, why doesn't he ever take on the thousands that are killed each day in the womb? Or, cigarettes for that matter. Tackling abortion probably would not be included in his left wing agenda.

How is it you right wing religious nut jobs always bring up your issue w/ abortion but have no problem with guns or war. Oh I know, it's because you need poor people to fight your wars and clean your houses.

You have no issue w/ sending a 20 year old kid to die for our love of oil.

On abortion, are you going to take care of the unwanted, ARE YOU?
You right wingers won't even allow your taxes to be raised in the slightest to care for the "takers".

Why is it right wingers preach to get government out of our lives but won't allow us to make decisions about our own lives from whether a person believes this world is good enough to bring new life into, to who a person is allowed to sleep with, to whether or not a person has the right to end their own life with peace and dignity instead of needlessly suffering in a hospital bed.

On abortion, here is a solution:
I've heard many say the most powerful thing one can do is give their life for another...so find a woman who is considering abortion. Give to her all of your assets to raise that child. Then use your 2nd Amendment right and use your AR15 on yourself. You save that unwanted child who will most likely grow up a better human than you because one less person like you would be in this world.

I love how your gun advocate guests explain the difference between an AR15 and a fully automatic machine gun.

Search the internet for an AR15 conversion kit. Fully auto with some modifications which look pretty easy. Heck there's even some youtube videos of converted weapons. Of course they all have warning that it's illegal to own a fully automatic weapon. And while your on there you might as well go all out an make a silencer as well.

Piers, I agree with you re banning assault weapons. However, if the goal is to reduce the amount of violence in the U.S. you need to take a look at the substance abuse issue since the correlation between violence and substance abuse is huge. Of the 11,000 murders in the U.S. last year, I would be very interested in hearing the stats re how many of the perpetrators were under the influence of drugs/alchol at the time. My guess- most of them. I wish you would make this a subject of one of your shows.

Piers you are fighting a losing battle. Let them get on with it. The world does not care what the US does internally.

    hey Piers,
when you & others stop teaching kids that guns are murder machines then they will stop using them as murder machines.
its not complicated. they are protection machines & only should be used for protection & kids need to understand that & YOU ARE NOT HELPING

    British Regime Ideology, not Tyranny

"If we are going to start assaulting citizens with powerful radar causing technology we don't want the citizens shooting back, the equipment is too expensive, and we need gun control, there's too many "deranged people"."

    1) To reduce assault style rifle violence mandate that owners must keep their weapons away from minors and disturbed individuals in the home or face severe civil and criminal consequences with mandatory prison time. Let your son go to school with your AR-10, AR-15, high capacity assault styled weapon because you didn't lock it away from him then lose your savings, your home and your freedom. If you locked it up and he stole it, then you are not culpable. But you run the risk to trust him or not. This would not include handguns.

    2) To reduce handgun related violence declare the Bloods, Crips, MS13, Hells Angels, mafia, .... demonstrably violent gangs.... as TERRORISTS. Treat them like enemy combatants. Use the NDAA 2012 and extended Patriot Act against them. Sure we have too many people in prison and yet our crime rates are down – go figure. Just being in a demonstrably violent gang should make it illegal to own a gun. When you are a member of a gang you are forswearing your primary secular allegiance to the U.S.

Piers, here is your next gun range demo:

Set up a simulated confined space with paper targets or mannequins to represent theater goers. Then cut lose with a semi-auto AR-15 to demonstrate how much damage an untrained person could do. Use high capacity magazines and even swap them out.

Then repeat the question: Why on earth do we need access to that kind of firepower?
