READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
On the heels of a divisive Scientology ad that aired during the Super Bowl, on Tuesday evening "Piers Morgan Tonight" invited Jenna Miscavige Hill to share her unique perspective on the controversial religious organization.
The niece of current leader David Miscavige, the guest left the church nearly a decade ago and has since become an outspoken critic of the organization and its teachings.
Well-known for its connection to some of Hollywood's biggest names – including Tom Cruise and John Travolta – Scientology has been accused of being a cult that brainwashes its members, and forces children into long hours of unlawful labor.
According to Hill, Cruise and others are either turning a blind eye, or simply perpetuating the problem:
"I think that either he does know what's going on and he's not talking about it, or he is willfully ignorant about it," she says of the star of the "Mission: Impossible" franchises. "People who endorse an organization like this, I feel like they have a responsibility to know everything about it and know what they're endorsing."
Having grown up in the church, including staying with the organization for five years after her parents left, Hill told Piers Morgan that conditions and facilities designed for the general population are far different than those reserved for the group's celebrity members:
"Obviously, the church itself is much nicer," she revealed to the "Piers Morgan Tonight" host. "Celebrities have their own private entrances. There's beautiful restaurants there. They have their own classrooms."
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as the author of the new book "Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape" reveals further first-hand insight of time spent within one of the most controversial groups in America.

I left the Catholic church because it is not a democracy.
And it's outdated views on women was the clincher.
It is a well know OSA tactic [scientology's Office of Special Affairs] to try and distract all articles criticising scientology by trying to change the subject and get the commentators to argue the new topic they've brought up – often introducing 'controversial ' subjects... in your case you've attempted to add 'cayholics and women as a diversionary tactic.
The cute sleight of hand that Morgan and Miscavige adroitly effect is to make the audience believe there is something untoward going on when no one has presented one speck of hard evidence.
Give us SOME/ANY evidentiary corroboration! A cell-phone photo, a contemporaneous note on a napkin to a sympathetic spouse. Yet the main consistency is a consistent vacuum of proof.
This is a young woman with shockingly shifty eyes and a book to sell! She lemmingly follows every transparently leading question that Morgan lobs her.
She always agrees, looks sharply to her right, and then agrees some more. Puh-leeze.
Mothers, would you want your son to tie your family up to this one?
why are the "church" in such a rush to attack anybody who says a word against scientology
in the real world people can choose to be part of a church a normal church
@fairndaccurate: Scientology's only defense to any sort of criticism is "they're liars!". The Cult, however, never seems to have any evidence to prove it. So, it's either the "lying apostates" defense, or "hey, look over here, the Catholic & Mormon churches are screwed up too". (Which is completely irrelevant to the conversation).
Scientology is a cult that routinely violates child labor laws and separates families. There's plenty of evidence all over the internet. But, you scientologists aren't allowed to use Google. So, I understand your ignorance of that fact.
Read Jenna's book. Escape from the Cult. PS: Your Freeloader bills are legally unenforceable! I know they hang that over your heads when you try to leave – but you DO NOT have to pay those erroneous bills.
"Fairand accurate" you are the exact opposite of your moniker and are the brand example of Scientology.
Google "Placido Domingo Jr. and Scientology." Do you dare?
Then try "Paulette Cooper and Tom Cruise" if you have the stomach to face such covert lying evil.
Scientology Inc. is an epic fail on communication, a basic course it sells as a service. It is mismanaged for abuse. Ur does not deserve the trust and confidence placed in it. A trail of Scientology covert slander and calumny evidence the corporation's attempts to discredit, stalk and ruin people.
You are clearly a blinded cult member yourself there are thousands of ex members of this cult who have nothing to gain by speaking out against these abnormal belief. Its fascinating in this day and age people still fall for the most ridiculous beliefs,it seems the more whacked out the teachings the more people fall for this crap.Man made cults fall in the same class as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Please think for yourselves people of this earth!
Well, master Jack I wonder that if I read just one piece of the The Way To Happiness to you you wouldn't understand it. If I carefully helped you look up each word of the piece you MIGHT get it and a light may come on inside your head. However, the light would only be a flicker of brightness.
It's not hard to recognize mental blindness in people and geeeees you better hope that "Heaven" is well kept and not run down...because no one has reported back to say which way to go or what condition it is in...
What about those turkeys who are promised virgins when they die by suicidal actions carried out by themselves BUT are forced to do so by another? Did they ever ask the question.....what am I going to penetrate the virgins when I am given them? No body = no penis eh !!!
Anyway, I think for myself and you mind is still narrow and geeeees it's a long time before we make this place sane.
Oh that figures. Read the book and then judge you idiot. Scientologists should be JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE. Nuff said. Go ahead and pooh-pooh her book all you want....obviously for you IGNORANCE IS BLISS.
Nice to see Piers Morgan interviewing Jenna Miscavige, born into a cult and is now telling her story since escaping. Kudos to her and to CNN for not being afraid to expose this criminal cult and their abuse of children.
How about those news articles about Scientology published Placido Domingo Jr's confessions on the internet when he would not disconnect from his wife and daughters. That right there says it all. Egregious violations.
Thank you Jenna Miscavige Hill. It's time for accountability! The two-faced aspect of the Scientology Organization is very treacherous. They have monopolized the life work of a man (Hubbard) and turned it into a greedy control operation that has no real respect for the principles it purports. They also seem to be anti-government based on the"Operation Snow White" felony conviction against them ...have they changed? sounds a lot like Scientology m.o. repeated in Israel last year with their lawyer Guy Finkelstein.
The lovely Ms. Miscavige comes off as unpolished (I mean...) and I think this helps her believability. Although I've heard many of the stories of the abuses of this religion, it really makes one pause if the niece of the Chairman of the Board is treated like she was (no parental love, having cold water poured on for punishment, etc.). I wonder when the celebrities that support this finally give it up. Jada Pinkett, who used Scientology principles in her school, campaigns against child slavery. Maybe someone should clue her in to the fact that subjecting a 7 year old to 14 hour workdays with no parental contact is basically child slavery.
I am so proud of you Jenna for exposing the Truth! Yes, Tom Cruise knows exactly was is going on behind those closed doors and he also has his hands deeply filthy in those crimes and abuses. As Maureen Orth reported in Vanity Fair Oct 2012 issue. I personally witnessed those crimes exposed by Maureen.
Tom cruise and his man-wife David Miscavige should be brought to Justice and USA Government should not keep a blind eyes on this criminal cult.
Jessica, I don't know what your believes are, but I think that the ones that are suppose to brought to justice are all those " men of god " that are destroying the innocence and life of so many kids in their churches. And all those killers which kill people around the planet on the "name of god". Wake up and don't be nonsense
You're telling Jessica to 'wake up', Norberto??? Did you not read what she wrote... 'she' witnessed for herself some of these crimes and travesties. You clearly did not, or are in denial... it's about time YOU woke up to the fact that you are being deceived, or are as complicit in these crimes as David Miscavige and Tom Cruise themselves!
anybody who wants to see the truth
all you have to do is google LISA MCPHERSON
Scientology is not trustworthy, their moral code is to lie. They use a facade of help to cover up abuse. Once in, after the nice front, they confessionals out of people then use them to control others into submission. Free thinkers? Not inside that corrupt organization!
Abuse of children, abuse of trust, use f confessionals, abuse of the entire subject. David Miscavige is like one of the evil Popes who used Jesus Christ as an excuse to put people on torture racks, steal valuables, and burn people at the stake.
It's time we look, really look. and support people who dare to speak out against the Scientology hijacking from its original Founder..
Mr Gerard, You and your associates on here should find a dictionary and check up the word " cult " and before any of you blockheads go off again to dribble from the mouth, you should re read various comon sense words in The Way To Happiness " by L.Ron Hubbard. You WILL find a clearer understanding if you can read properly AND you could never win in Court that that booklet contains straight good behaviourol ways to life live and that SHOULD BE common sense everywhere across this somewhat insane world. DO YOU THINK OUTSIDE THE SQUARE OFTEN TO THINK THAT A PLANE LOAD OF THEM SHOULD BE DROPPED OVER ISRAEL AND TEH WEST BANK? Surely you all should allow yourselves that much common sense and sanity OR are you without these common faculties ??? Ian
Disappointing. I was expecting some juicy horrific stories. But she didn't even have anything to say when asked if miscavige was evil. Uh, evil how? What gives? Why did they leave that out? Or, does she not have specifics to say? Jeez man, reporters suck at getting answers these days.
"Levena" - Ms. Hill said he was evil, and also sowed a nice side when she was a child. Evil is betrayal of trust, as Miscavige does when he makes fun of the "confessionals" and uses them against members. I doesn't get much m ore evil. Wait - the death of Lisa McPherson. Evil. Ordering all people who old him accountable and responsible to be spied on, discredited and slandered? Evil. Paulette Cooper and Tom Cruise? Evil. Ruining people financially? Evil. Getting donations for buildings instead of delivering help and counseling? Evil. Living like a rich celebrity and breaking the spirit of his staff by making them feel worthless? Evil.
S is for Sneaky. That's Scientology!
Thousands of former members who gave their all and were betrayed and abused are leaving, and some are speaking out. I read that some of heir celebrity members even volunteer as spies - like the TV actress Jenna Elfman is on the Scientology volunteer spy list.
Scientology OSA (office of special affairs) steals people's trash, harasses former members and their neighbors, spins lies about people, they even infiltrated Hollywood studios to spy on writers of the awesome show South Park!
That is just one example of the creepy violation of human rights by Scientology, not to mention a massive betrayal of goodhearted people's willingness and belief in trying to make the world a better place for real.
C'mon, levena. She said that Miscavige beats his staff,. There are multiple accounts, all confirming each other, forming a fully dimensional picture of the man's cruelty and capriciousness. She also was able to point out the work she did as a child on the Ranch, for which the Church so helpfully supplied the evidence. The church says that her classmates disagree, but provides no evidence of that-and their pattern of coercing people into signing untruthful affadavits are well known.
Oh OSA, your methods just aren't working. You too will find yourselves RPF'd in due course, no matter how hard you try to conform to the rules. You'll be sec-checked, forced to come up with "crimes" even if you don't think you had any, and it'll be off to a basement somewhere with all the rice and beans and forced labor you can stand, just as happened to Jenna.
The Church is past its prime, and sinking, thanks partially to the captaincy of its sociopathic little leader, but also thanks to its preposterous, brittle, bureaucratic, avaricious, inhumanity. I'm very sure you OSA people didn't join up to do what you're doing now.
How many religions around the world has have different philosophies, and millions of followers each of them ?. I don' believe on Jenna and just a few others ex-scientologyist. I think they did something wrong against their group and they weren't able to confront it. Why so many millions enjoying been part of that organization ?. I don't like some other religions because they are ridiculous but I hear good thinks about scientology on knowledge, education and intellect. Jenna was nervous, un-secure and nonsense.
It is a well know OSA tactic [scientology's Office of Special Affairs] to try and distract all articles criticising scientology by trying to change the subject and get the commentators to argue the new topic they've brought up.
David Miscavige pays $$ millions of dollars to private investigators to spy on and harass people. Fact
Hundreds of people, probably closer to a thousand, have spoken out. against the abuses of David Miscavige. Including the two spies D. Miscavige hired to follow Pat Broeker, the person chosen to run the organization after Hubbard's death. Read about that in the St. Petersburg Times. why did Miscavige have the guy stalked for 20 + years by private investigators he p[aid millions to?
Millions of dollars spent on stalking and spying on people. is that American? And Jenna Elfman appears on one of the Scientology internal rosters as one of their OSA (Office of Special Affairs) spies.
David Miscavige had the Hollywood studio office of South Park writers were spied on, trash dug through, because they wrote a spoof. They sent a covert mole to work there to try to get info to discredit the writers. Scientology spied on Steven Spielberg's wife. Do your research. Get the facts. Scientology management is very manipulative insincere operation.
Not enough evil for you? Wake up.
How many religions around the world have been convicted for the largest infiltration into US government offices on local soil in ALL of U.S history?(operation snow white) How many religions around the world only become recognised through manipulating the judiical systems? A "few others ex-scientologists" you say? Well then, no wonder you are generalizing the way you are, as YOU dont even have the 'confront' to even admit YOU are a scientologist. So, you are a scientologist just so you can try strike an effective blow against the enemy?
Retribution is finally here for the most inhumane "applied religious philosophy" called scientology since WWII.
Scientology, your cult, does not have millions of members.
Last I heard it was some really low number like 25,000. And they are having a rough time recruiting new fools to join now that the Internetrevealing Xenu fantasy has hit the fan.
Norbortos use of the word 'confront' shows his CO$ education and ties. CO$ rarely allows its members to see outside websites or google items like "Lisa McPherson' or "Grant Cardone and Milton Katselas'. "If a thing can be destroyed by the truth, it should be destroyed'. That is todays dilemma for members of CO$, if they use their brains and actually research issues that face them, they leave. If they try to use their brains, they get charged thousands for 'sec-checks' and find themselves eventually kicked out. I won't shed a tear when the missions and churches of CO$ start showing up on the 'for sale' pages.
first of all it comes to humanity. i dont believe in this stupidity that i belong to this abc religion therefore i am better human then you because you belong to xyz religion. according to me anybody is innocent until prove guilty by courts. i am not supporter of scientology. but i believe tom cruise is a scapegoat who is constantly targeted by negative propaganda which he dont deserve. all people who are constantly involved in mudslinging and defaming tom should look in mirror. because in other words they are claiming that they are better human then him on the basis of their religion. for me he did nothing wrong so far.for me he is one of the biggest american living hollywood legend. and as a american i am proud of it. threfore these people are fundamentalist
There are plenty of caring and compassionate people waiting for you on the outside when you leave Scientology.
Jenna Miscavige Hill's husband was Tom Cruise's scientology 'auditor' at one time. James, your writing is either at a 4 th grade level (or a Sea Org captain) or you are a foreign born non native English speaker. Just the type that Scamatology sends to 'confront' the truth on the internet. How are the rice and beans in troll central? All members of Scamatology bear responsibility for what the 'church' has become. Tom Cruise could use a little soul searching, if he can get by Xenu's brain cooties...
All of these "religions" are sects/cults which use psychological brainwashing. I think Piers Morgan should do a show on Jehovah;s Witnesses. I have followed them, done much research on them. None of their kids go to public school, college is discouraged, they do not vote, do not salute our Flag or sing the National Anthem. They say they are NOT PART OF THIS WOLRD, but then at the same time say they are not a CULT. Does this not sound contradictory?? They wrote their own version of the Bible, and yet while saying they are not part of this world, they drive our cars, use our gas, consume our natural resources. They use psychological brainwashing and mind control at its finest. An interview with past elders and members would make a very interesting show.
The subject at hand is Jenna Miscavige Hill and Scientology, not Jehovah's Witnesses. Your attack on them is just the type of trolling scamatologists are required to do. Tell me Ken, how much of 'your' gasoline have Witnesses used?
Sounds like you are a witness. And if you are shame on you for being on this site instead of reading your warped version of the BIBLE. They use a ton of gas in driving around witnessing, they should build their own commune like Jamestown and put barbed wire fence around it.
Big fences with the spikes pointed inward, like Big Blue and Gold Base?
Ken...thank you....I was a friend of a JW person who came out from his 'church'. He lost a son to suicide and suffered terribly due to the way he was treated by his elders. He is one of the kindest, most self-sacrificing men I've ever known, and I'm glad that after some searching around among other kinds of churches he's found his home and is thriving. It's a crime on a lot of levels when church leaders take advantage of people in the name of God. These false shepherds will face Him in due time, and I would not want to be anywhere close by.
I had cousins in Texas who were Jehovah Witnesses. When my one cousin fell away years ago, he was 'shunned' by even his own parents. They would not look directly at him. I was shocked. Recently, I have stopped believing in my religion (I live in SLC) and after 15 years of living in the neighborhood with everyone I attended church with... I feel shunned, too. It's amazing to me. I just lost faith. I didn't turn into a murderous, drug addict. Yet, I feel they all think that. It's been horrible and makes me realize how glad I am not to be a part of 'the group' any more (the firm??). Anyway, most religions offer a lot of good things for people... however, they can go over the top with control.
What baffles me is why should someone get mad at someone else for changing their beliefs or having different beliefs, as long it doesn't hurt anyone? I still think people are basically good – but, everyone needs to trust in their own instincts and heart, live good lives and be kind to one another. Period.
Any religion that splits up families is inherently evil and suffers from cult-itus. Of course Scientology is not a religion but plays it that way to cheat the government out of taxes. This status should be revoked.
OSA's Press Statement RE Jenna Miscavige's Book:
"The church has long respected the family unit, while accommodating and helping those raising children.
“The church has not engaged in any activities that mistreat, neglect or force child to engage in manual labor. The church follows all laws with respect to children. Claims to the contrary are false.”
There are way too many people currently in and out of the church, from public to EX-SO who know better. The More you lie in PR, the more you stoke the fire within people who have been at the receiving end of the mistreatment, neglect, forced labor and disregard for the family unit. I'm one of them and YOU ARE TOO!
Karin/OSA: You are either being paid to cover up the truth, willfully blind, scared or evil. Which is it?
At any rate, the clock is ticking...it is just a matter of time. Each time an abuse or sham is uncovered, the dam that props you up becomes weaker. My advice is; come clean before it's too late.
The Truth Will Set You Free!
Somebody on Tony Ortega's site quoted Voltaire:
"Those that can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
The OSA types who harass, stalk, and lie for the Church fully bear this out. I'm sure very few people join Scientology to squeeze money out of, and put fear into, other people, but look, OSA! That's all you're doing! And to no effect; Scientology is more unpopular than it ever was. It is not about "clearing the planet," obviously. If it costs thousands of dollars to clear one person, how are you going to clear an entire country? You can't even clear Clearwater, and you're not even trying. You're just on extemely ineffective damage control, consisting of blackmailing people through their family members, threatening them, spying and lying. What a way to spend your time!
So many comments who refute Jenna Miscavige... I say go and do some learning. Read the many books written by scholars and ex-members on how this cult operates. Don't stick your head in the sand and say this is like any other religion! As the critics say, 'It's not just you. Everyone thinks $cientology is creepy." Internet search RPF or KRs and you'll see what others already know. Thanks CNN for helping to expose the crimes of this cult. Good interview Piers.
see that you Americans you're a little cracked with your sects
in France, sectarians, they make us laugh
Now, I have more respect for Piers Morgan and any journalist who are not afraid of this nasty cult (scientology). Well done to Jenna Miscavige Hill for speaking out.
Tom Cruise and his buddy (man-wife) David Miscavige should be brought to justice for their criminality, abuses, human rights violation and human trafficking.
Kudos to Maureen Orth for exposing the truth in Vanity Fair Oct 2012 issue. This cult should be close down. Scientology stopped the FBI 2 years investigation by buying someone in the US Justice Department. This is not OK and should be investigated.
I know Jenna. My daughter and Jenna grew up together on the Ranch and both of them were inseparable as best friends. My daughter is a well adjusted young women attending university studing native language towards a masters degree, She does not have the same issue or complaints that Jenna has with regards her childhood experience growing up there, quite the contrary , I heard Jenna on a Radio show the other day saying bad and terrible it all was with schedules and Curriculum s and teachers being just the worst things ever. What she omitted to say on that Show and in her Book was the fact that the Architect of that entre Ranch program, the person that oversaw the Financing of it, the ultimate authority who hand picked the personnel, approving all schedules and curriculum for the place was non other than Jenna's own MOTHER Bitty Blythe Miscavige, I would say that if Jenna has issue with this part of her life she should go take it up with her mom.
Hard manual labor really shouldn't be part of the elementary school curriculum, especially not with a schedule like long hours six days a week.
You should take up the issue with Bitty and ask her opinions about her past actions. Except as long as you're in the "church" you must remain disconnected from all the people who have escaped.
I just finished reading Beyond Belief. I could not put the book down, however, at the end of it, I felt like I had read it all for nothing. Scientology is a CULT as you know, but you need to learn that there is a God. Debrainwashing might happen or might not. The whole idea of what you went through was absurd! I feel sorry for all of you who went through this, lost your parents, siblings etc. but grow from your experience and know that you are no longer Thetans.
