As telecommuting proponents continue to voice their dismay over Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer's mandate that the company will no longer allow employees to work from home, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed Jack Welch to the program to get his expert insight and perspective on the issue.
The former Chairman and CEO of General Electric praised Mayer for making "a bold move to move the company forward."
"She's got to take some action that goes against the grain, said Welch. "She's got to get the majority of people on the team developing a new culture to win."
"I commend her for the guts and I hope it works."
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Welch tells Morgan that he knows Mayer will use "good judgment."

Jack Welch is a very intelligent man, but not exactly a morality leader. He's a dinosaur.

Congratulations people on tackling the topic. In our businesses today, we find the collective creative input trickles to the center best, under one roof. The 'Borg' collective meant 1 + 1 is greater than 2. Working from home won't give us the 'extra' we need to compete globally today. "All hands on board"... we humans need one another more than we ever dreamed.
Just let the woman run her company! Is it the right choice? Is it the wrong choice? We'll know in a few quarters. Whatever.
It doesn't atake any guts to have people do what they have ALWAYS done.
'Come to work' isn't a bold concept.
Telecommuting can get out of control, but it should not be banned. Common sense can be used to develop a balanced approach.

Mayer is a real hottie
So many of these large corporations miss the boat as what it takes to be successful. How does your business structure benefit society as a whole. Yahoo and many other large corporations focus on bottom line, and nothing more.
To take a line from General Schwarzkopf of Iraqi Desert Storm fame once said retired generals should stay retired. This should apply to retired corporate CEO's. GE did well under Welch but the economy was booming. Jack was moving jobs offshore while he was cheating on his wife. It has yet to be seen if Yahoo can be turned around but it is no GE.
I give Jack credit for having sense enough to not criticize the young, hip, cool, woman in charge....a negative comment from Jack would usher the 'near irrelevant Retired CEO' to begin his anachronistic stages of life.
Almost all of whatever you point out happens to be astonishingly appropriate and that makes me wonder why I had not looked at this with this light previously. This piece really did switch the light on for me personally as far as this issue goes. However there is actually 1 factor I am not too comfortable with and while I make an effort to reconcile that with the actual main idea of the position, let me see exactly what all the rest of your visitors have to say.Nicely done.
