READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
Exactly 14 weeks to the day since the tragic mass killing in Newtown, Conn. left 28 people – including 20 children – dead as part of the largest school shooting in U.S. history, tonight "Piers Morgan Live" invites the father of one of the victims to share his thoughts and emotions as part of a face to face interview.
On December 14th, 2012, six-year old Emilie Parker perished at the hands of gunman Adam Lanza. This evening Robbie Parker, Emilie's dad, remembers his little girl:
"She embodied so much in her life. From the moment that I met her and she came into this world, I realized that I was blessed and that she inspired me to become a better person. And from that day, I changed my whole outlook on this world," Parker reveals to Piers Morgan. "That’s what she did for me. And I know that she has that power to do that for other people as well."
A first grader at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Emilie's teachers recognized her potential, and asked her parents to remain in touch:
"She just said, 'you need to keep in contact with me,'" explains Mr. Parker, relaying a conversation he and his wife had with one of their daughter's Kindergartner teachers when she was in the midst of changing classes. "She made us promise her that we would keep in contact with her, because she wanted to know what Emilie was going to accomplish in life because she felt that she had the ability to do anything that she wanted. She said, 'Emilie is going to be great.'"
Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, then tune in this evening at 9 as Robbie Parker opens up about the ways in which he plans to honor his daughter's memory, noting in part that "she is going to continue to touch the lives of countless numbers of people."

The way you used that poor grieving father to further your deranged gun grab arguement was sickening. You're a detestable pig Morgan!!!
Really sickened!! I think your a descendant of a pig swine to even use that poor family in a though of yours, Dude!
It is always interesting when people talk about the high crime rates in the UK. Do a bit of research and you will see that they include a lot in their crime statistics. Things like threatening, jostling, hitting, and on and on. Do due diligence and look at the web site for UK stats and see the gun related instances. Think too about the state of the country when people feel the need to have assault rifles to feel safe in their homes. If you are that concerned about the govt. taking over, don't keep re-electing the very people you are afraid of!
Sickened...well said..Morgan has a career in sleazy tabloid style reporting..and he would think nothing of exploiting and using Sandy Hook and the families of the victims and even the images of victims themselves for propaganda props...And the truth is that none of the proposed gun control and gun ban proposals would have prevented the evil Sandy Hook shooting or any of the other mass shootings. ...Morgan deliberately deceives the people in nearly all fronts in the gun control debate...and he always dances around the fact that the UK has some of the highest violent crime rates in all of of Europe since the gun confiscation and gun bans that went into effect there. and the now the gun violence has doubled in the UK since their bans went into effect...and the citizens there are nearly defenseless and live in terror.
I am always fearfull being in a "gun free zone" knowing a preditor would have no resistance to mass murder. Are we sure Robbie Parker is not a paid actor? Now he is to throw out the first pitch for MLB. Shameless explotation even if his story is true.
What's wrong with honoring someone who died horrifically? You are the sick one to use this excuse to attach Piers Morgan.
Morgan was not honoring ..he was "exploiting" Newtown and the families of the victims, for his gun grabbing agenda and ratings..and BTW it's spelled.. "attack"
Are we done with the history class , i go to give a slap to barrast, bass, well A&** and ther she is on a topic about slaughtered children and you want to talk 1940's history. we dont care about 1940's england or churchill. We are 2013 , kids killed in their classroom and people mock th families and say it was a fictional story, Now thats wkached
well said JUAN
Wow!! You are the sir. Just another filthy American. Don't you have any shame??? You are just as bad as the child killer
Some nazi NRA freak tried to say to Piers that Americans have guns to protect the freedom of the world. He said, 'If it weren't for America's gun laws who would have come to Great Britain's aid in two wars?'. Piers said,'Winston Churchill'.
The answer should have been, America doesn't allow soldiers to use their personal weapons in war. They have standard issue weapons that they take back at the end of the war or enlistment, whichever comes first.
Thank you. That creep tried to blow that one past the entire audience. "Johnny get your gun" wasn't referring to the family firearm. All soldiers were issued weapons to carry with them into battle.
Secondly, our involvement with World War 2 or any other war has no bearing on the firearms debate as it relates to public safety.
Attention all viewers:
As of immediately, I will be stopping my campaign to disarm the American public. It has been brought to my attention that all violent crimes, including gun murders, are at an all time low in America & are steadily decreasing.
To keep pushing gun bans can only result in a reversal of the decrease. Morally I cannot take part in banning guns knowing that will result in an increase of violent crimes.
We're all very proud of you,Piers;also I heard about your wee girl's fever, common in babies, glad she's OK(maybe that guy complaining about the flashing lights can join the NRA just before we take them down);pretty quiet on the comments page today, but still good, direct, and informative:I'm in Auld Reekie so can't watch, but go online every night. This is the big one,not 9/11,the military handled that with the NRA–much to their chagrin no doubt–cut out the loop:this needs to happen here.I'm reliably informed Agents in California are putting about Lanza only used Glocks, clearly mendacious–they are
getting worse:I forced myself on Friday to look at their website in relation to the above, also absolutely no mention of
Sandy Hooke,Newtown, nor Connecticut–positively Orwellian:Winston Smith not putting stories in the paper.Keep it up,
Piers,we're right behind you:it's Massacre Of Glencoe levels,a watershed,and I wrote a dream:
Bald Eagle Turning Into Firebird
I I see a bird,rising,
firebird glowing above the embers,
Congress,preponderance of guns
falling like ninepins into scuffed cinders;
she is shedding:fledged,ready to fly!
She may fly and burn the Harpies
(who may come to her),a phoenix
above the ashes of the old;
she is glowing and young
as if lit by a taper
on twenty candles.
I really wish people can stop focusing on the guns and focus on the BU
LLETS. It is the BULLETS that kill not the gun!!!!
Excellent interview because you all find it hard to face the truth of gun destruction. Those children were blown to pieces and the NRA has made you all cowards with your big guns and no brains......sad.
I feel so bad about Newtown, our nephew was there, however this father who was on tv not even 12 hours after his daughters murder keeps seeking fame by this tragedy is appalling.. Mr Parker needs to see stop making money off his dead daughter s life. just watch the hours after her death and you will see. he is fame hungry!!!
Morbid thought namcy, the guy lost a child! no substance weak minded. that whole town will never be the same and most of you writing on and objective news website Judge, judge the oppresed and miserable. you are in a class all by yourself!
Sooo...you and your family were fortunate enough to have your nephew survive the massacre that day, yet THAT'S all the compassion you can muster for a father that wasn't so lucky? And calling him names?! REALLY?!?!?!
I despair for humanity.
You're disgusting for even thinking he's making a penny off his appearances.
Mr. Parker has started a charitable foundation, not a personal investment fund. Get you head out of your backside and get your facts straight. Your trolling does nothing to further this debate.
Robbie Parker is an actor named Benjamin Farmer, Sandy Hook and the Boston Marathon bombing were perpetrated by actors. Wake up America!
Now that we are 3 months out the NRA was right just wait them out. Your relative was trying to speak for someone who no longer has a voice because of a gun. You are the coward.
My heart aches for all of the families and victims of the Sandy Hook Massacre. I cry with you not just as a human being, but as a parent whose son was also murdered almost 13 years due to gun violence at the hands of gangs. Each and every time I learn of the innocent deaths across this country I relive that pain. My son was an innocent by stander, just 19 years old. Michael was celebrating at the Tacoma, WA Waterfront/Ruston Way. It was his younger sisters' HS graduation, the next morning the Tacoma Police Chaplin knocks at my door wanting me to make arrangements to bry my son. The shooter was caught and convicted of Murder 1 with an illegal assault weapon. The rest is history and the number of deaths continue to climb. I have met with Mona Locke, the wife of the Governor of WA State in 2000 addressing gun control and closing the loopholes. I met with several officials from the city of Tacoma – Basically I was told that I was a grieving mother. So here we stand 12 plus years later fighting the same issue. I pray that all of these victims have not died in vain. This is unacceptable at this point. I can only hope and pray for the day when I will meet my son again – I don't have any faith in our gvernment to make and changes to the gun laws!
yall anti-gun yets sound so ridiculous. so you want no rifles, gun free zones, no guns.. thats what you had at Sandy Hook so what are yall crying about now?
what else could we do to stop that?
the terrorist used stolen guns & went to a place he knew nobody could fight back & its that simple.
go do somethng useful like watch the parking lots of schools to see if someone is coming in with a big rifle & stop them next time geez
Thank you mr Morgan for keeping this battle alive, it makes me sick people are okay with assualt weapons, magazines that hold a hundred bullets. The congress and senate should be ashamed not to give this a vote. The NRA is a horrible org ruining our government.
cheers for piers and his cause against guns.
there is no need for guns in this world.
yea of corse there isnt any need for guns. there wasnt any need for guns at sandy hook at all. thats why it was a gun free zone in a state that had a ban on rifles.
you shouldve told adam lanza that instead of posting it here bcz he didnt know there is no need for guns like the rest of sandy hook knew
Scare The Pilgrims = Started with me in 1977. I was in Springfield , Ohio training in the Joint Vocational School there learning the welding trade. Got Certified American Welding Society , High School Diploma & I clocked in on m 1st welding job 3 days after walking out of that welding class. Minimum wage was $2.65 an Hour in Ohio, & Jimmy Carter was President and he said the Magic Words "GAS SHORTAGE" ,,as he was told by some Rich Texas Oil Men ,,GASOLINE WENT UP TO OVER $2.00 A GALLON. Namcy you are horrendous!?He is not fame hungry he is trying to make sense of it all! How is he making money? You don't get paid for those type of interviews. Did he ask for money? Go be miserable and hateful somewhere else!
Namcy is just a troll. Nobody is that insensitive, especially while claiming to have a loved one so close to the tragedy. I call bs on his/her entire comment.
Piers Morgan is not beating up on Anericans. My dad owned a sporting goods store and I grew up hunting and shooting guns in Texas. I know he would support a ban and I definitely support a ban. Please keep up your persistence so people will force our representatives to represent us. We need more sanity.
You know who seems to want to deface and divide the country with any amount of wrongful words is Sean Hannity. ( in my opinion) for the last three days Ive watched him beg and plead with any weak minded people who'll listen to him that our Presidency is out to get us, our sell us out, divide and deface. What about the majority who support and stand firm withour President. To me the words he drives down his listeners throats is kind of social media terroism and hat, hate, hat. ( my opionon) that channels speakers would slam theirselves in the jaw with a sludge hammer rather then give bipartisan respect and due. Try hearing bo0nding the nation on his show! does that seem like continual slanering of pres Obama ( in my opinion) stand up people!
Jeannie....I respect your opinion to.support a ban and that's your American right to do so, but please tell why you think a ban on these semi automatic rifles would have prevented the Sandy Hook tragedy or any other shooting tragedy..I'm not trying to be a smart a$$..but I really would like to know why you think these bans would prevent mass shootings..As you probably know the bans that ended in 2004 was proven by many studies that the ban didn't work and was a dismal failure...so why would they work now ?? One more thing ..consider if Lanza had no access to a semi automatic rifle and used a shotgun or handguns instead, these poor innocent children would have been just as .....well you know...My point is maybe we should focus on the evil, the criminals the mentally ill who are dangerous.. and not the tools they use ..because every gun could miraculously disappear off the face of the earth and still there would be sadly just as much evil with innocent victims..
Lanza's mother was able to acquire her weapons legally. That's her "right", but she acted highly irresponsibly. If the same weapons were illegal to purchase, she wouldn't have had them within an arm's reach of her disturbed child.
Responsibility can't be legislated, but we can take steps to educate the public about proper firearms storage and ownership procedures. Further, we can restrict purchase of highly lethal weapons so that in the event something does go wrong, 20 kids in a classroom won't be target practice for a nut job.
Any expert in self defense and firearms will tell you that the chance to STOP a shooting is when the shooter reloads. That brief interval allows people to flee, or someone to jump on the shooter and disrupt his fire.
Had Lanza gone into the school with a 9mm and 2 10 bullet magazines, there would have been a much different headline. This type of weapon and magazine is more than adequate for self defense against a would-be thief or rapist, but not enough to mow down 26 people.
The NRA would have us believe that at ANY moment, in ANY place, 20 home invaders will smash through our doors and kill us. They are playing on people's fears and not on reality.
Just for argument’s sake, let’s assume " 2 seconds makes a difference”. Doesn’t it go both ways? If a grandma (120 lb, 80 years old) runs out of ammo after firing 10 shots missing half of them, an only lightly wounded assailant with a knife (200 lb, 20 years old) can take advantage of the 2 seconds and overpower and kill her while she was trying to reload... Remember, the home invasion in Georgia, after receiving 5 shots, the criminal was still able to walk, managed to flee the house in a vehicle. What if there were two or more intruders, the woman and her 9-year-old twins could have not survived the attack!
You're right, it can go both ways. I think this only reaffirms the fact that a firearm isn't a foolproof method of self defense. The Georgia grandmother story is anecdotal but nonetheless proof that owning a gun isn't necessarily going to deter a criminal.
To me, guns should not be so easy to acquire. We shouldn't even be having this discussion. The Grandma in Georgia should have been left alone.
More stringent background checks, waiting periods on purchases, reasonable magazine/clip sizes, and getting the more effective killing machines off the streets would help. There are also other ways to protect yourself WITH or WITHOUT a firearm:
1. Home security system with silent alarm. At least the cops will show up after a burglary when no one is at home to process the scene. They will come right away if you're inside.
2. Take a self defense class. You don't have to be a ninja, but some basic knowledge of how to combat an attacker will buy you time.
3. Buy pepper spray or mace, use it when necessary. Buys more time. Pepper Spray is used in prison against violent criminals when things get out of hand. It would be helpful on the streets.
4. Tasers – Hit someone with a Taser and they're useless. It's a one shot deal, but better than nothing.
5. Stun guns – This one can be used in close combat. Just touch the attacker and he/she gets shocked. Buys time.
Also, street smarts are helpful in all but the most extreme attacks. Stay out of troubled areas. Don't buy illicit drugs. Don't travel with expensive jewelry and watches. Go to the bar with a friend. Keep a cell phone handy for emergencies. Don't pick fights with people over dumb stuff. Avoid becoming intoxicated if you're in an insecure location. Avoid becoming in debt to lone sharks or organized crime.
To be clear I'm NOTa "blame the victim" person. That said, safety can be both proactive and reactive.
Just in case the way I wrote was confusing, the stories about a grandma (hypothetical example) and the home invasion in Georgia (a real event) are two different things. And what do you mean when you say “The Grandma in Georgia should have been left alone.”...??
Nothing is a foolproof method of self defense like nothing in this world is perfect. But compared to all the other things you mentioned here, firearms are the most superior among all if you know how to use them. First of all, cops don’t always show up in time. How does self defense classes work for a 80 years old grandma with weak knees (or people with disabilities like wheelchair bound) against a couple of 200lb armed young men? Firearms are a great equalizer, they give the physically weaker equal ability to fight.
Pepper spray, mace, teasers, stunguns..... neither of those will work effectively enough when you are faced with an attacker with a gun. If those are your choice of self defense, fine go ahead, but don’t get offended when some people think your ideas are not as good as guns.
BTW, the advice you put at the end, thanks, but I wasn’t born yesterday. And I never get intoxicated even at my own home. Also, Stay out of troubled areas? There are people who live in unsafe areas and can’t afford to move to better areas. Who are we to deny them the most efficient form of self-protection method, such as firearms? If you ask me, police should be giving anyone who wants to lawfully own guns free training on handling and safeguarding.
Our lawmakers time and taxpayers money will be better spent on coming up with stricter laws locking up more criminals and longer, and giving the severely disturbed professional help.
"And what do you mean when you say “The Grandma in Georgia should have been left alone.”…??"
I meant exactly what I wrote, she should NOT have been robbed. Why need to ask ourselves why someone would need to rob a Grandma in the first place.
"But compared to all the other things you mentioned here, firearms are the most superior among all if you know how to use them."
You're assuming anyone with a gun has a level of proficiency to fend off an attacked successfully. Even the most skilled shot can be taken by surprise. The thief could should them when they're not looking, and the self defense preparation is useless.
"If those are your choice of self defense, fine go ahead, but don’t get offended when some people think your ideas are not as good as guns."
I'm not offended, it's a matter of opinion. I might add that someone skilled at using a crossbow, blow darts, or throwing stars could incapacitate an attacker from medium range. These three additional examples are also less risky should they fall into the wrong hands. I haven't heard of any mass arrowing/darting/starrings lately. The firearm is only as good as its shooter.
"I wan't born yesterday."
You'd be surprised how many people do stupid things, without realizing the risks they are taking.
"There are people who live in unsafe areas and can’t afford to move to better areas."
Good point, and a gun is more affordable. In truly dangerous areas, I would question whether or not shooting an attacker would be well advised. Gangster asks for your wallet, you shoot him. Fine, that's self defense. No arguments. The problem is that people who snitch on gangsters get killed in short order. So do people that shoot gangsters, including law enforcement.
"Our lawmakers time and taxpayers money will be better spent on coming up with stricter laws locking up more criminals and longer, and giving the severely disturbed professional help."
You're right. I totally agree on that point, specifically better mental health programs and early intervention,
“she should NOT have been robbed. Why need to ask ourselves why someone would need to rob a Grandma in the first place.”
Okay... I just couldn’t imagine anyone thinking anything that obvious needed to be said, so I thought there could’ve been a different meaning of saying something like that... Of course!! No one regardless of age should be robbed! Tell that to criminals! Violent criminals don’t care who you are, they’ll harm anyone who gets in their way. Sadly, that’s the world we live in, thus an efficient self-protection method should be available to anyone who needs it!
No, it’s not that I think anyone with a gun has a level of proficiency to fend off an attacker successfully. I never said everyone should own a gun. People who are uncomfortable handling a gun shouldn’t have a gun. What I’m saying is, it should be the individual’s choice. The new gun laws will narrow down the choice we can make, that’s what I’m opposed to. There are people who are perfectly skilled at maneuvering high-cap, big guns and do need them, like when patrolling their land near the border. The new gun law will indiscriminately take away those guns from the people who need them to ensure their survival. You know that Mexican gangs have big guns, right? The new gun laws impede the right to defend yourself against those vicious scoundrels by making you outgunned! Why is that right?
“I'm not offended, it's a matter of opinion. “
Does this mean you are cool with each person making their own decision for what self defense method they want to choose? Then I’m cool with that. You choose anything you like for yourself, a crossbow, blow darts, throwing stars or whatever. I choose a handgun and a rifle.
“You'd be surprised how many people do stupid things, without realizing the risks they are taking.”
Oh tell me something new... I’m saying you don’t need to tell me things I already know.
“The problem is that people who snitch on gangsters get killed in short order. So do people that shoot gangsters, including law enforcement.”
Are you saying if you go against gangsters, you’ll eventually get killed, so it’s not the wise course of action? Maybe. But that also should be the individual’s choice. I’d rather not give them my wallet every time they demand it and get killed anyway when I run out of money they can extort from me. If I’m gonna die sooner or later (as we all do), I’d rather die fighting against evil.
Sanity's the word,Jeannie, half a billion in circulation by my reckoning(and that might be where we're headed).
TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE NOT AS LUCKY AS ME HERE IS A STARTING POINT I RAN ACROSS MANY YEARS AGO IN A MASSAD AYOOB ARTICLE, THE 4 COLORS OF SELF DEFENSE WITH A HANDGUN TRAINING AND THEIR MAENINGS
#1. CONDITION WHITE #2. CONDITION YELLOW #3. CONDITION ORANGE #4. CONDITION RED
I don't have the time for this . Look it up yourself if you want to learn how to stay alive and not get killed . This has served me well for over 23 years. This is my last post due to the fact I have to make money or I get angry with myself,,Farming is the life for me & laugh if you want but Mr. Buffet The Billionaires Son Is A Farmer by choice also,,
I pay the NRA $25.00 a year to fight for my rights in this batle and I am very very happy with the results of the last 35 years. The Anti Gun Anti American Rights Goof Balls Lose Because They Are WRONG,,plain and simple Bye P-BRAIN
Interesting comments from Feldman that guns aren't the problem, people are the problem! Yet the NRA does NOT support any type of background checks, doesn't support restricting sale of guns at shows, and on it goes. The gun manufacturers are making so much cash off the fear of the American people, they have to keep up the fight. $ is obviously worth more than lives. As long as they are paying the NRA staff the big bucks they are willing to sell their souls.
Mr. Morgan...please continue your efforts to help our incredibly misguided society understand and take actions to make a change in our gun laws. Emilie's father's words brought me to my knees. While ratings count, this father is standing up for his child. What a courageous and dedicated father! I am "sickened" that so many individuals, particularly our politicians, can act (and vote) in such a cold heartless manner. What the hell are they thinking? It is beyond my comprehension. We can't solve all the violence but we can certainly put measures in place to make our world just a tiny, tiny bit safer!
so we know in sandy hook the tough tough illegal gun bans were the cause of the shooting so wth are you talking about? you want more of those bans? sounds like a great plan im sure that will only make less people more vunerable jus like at sandy hook.
go do something useful like be a lookout in school parking lots & if someone is coming in with a rifle then stop them
Obviously the laws weren't strong enough in Connecticut because the weapons were acquired legally, and then improperly stored within reach of a deranged child. That's not only stupid, it's dangerous, 2nd amendment rights or not.
Gun rights folks seem to think just about anything is just as lethal as an AR-15. Fine. Let's ban all firearms and give everyone a stick. Try and kill 26 people with a stick. I'll give you 10 minutes, longer than Lanza had with his gun, and you won't get the job done.
Not one of the President's or Senate's proposals impedes the right to defend yourself with a firearm. Instead, the legislation takes a commonsense approach to keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of the wrong people.
Well, one of the Columbine kids, Harris, had noted on his site that he had made pipe bombs. How do you know those deranged individuals won’t pick another way to kill masses of people when assault weapons are banned?
The last deadly bombing in the USA was Oklahoma City April 1995. The bombs were made with diesel and fertilizer were mixed with Nitro Methane, an important ingredient most people forget about.
It has been 18 years since, and no lethal bombing has occurred. Why? If bombs are so easy to make and the materials are readily available, why haven't bombs been the weapon of choice for ALL criminals, never mind mass murderers?
You can get diesel at the gas station, no background check required. You can get fertilizer at the garden or hardware store, no background check required. Nitro Methane cost McVeigh $1,500 (not cheap), but that is also available.
Bombs are not as easy nor as reliable a tool when it comes to executing people. It's not as simple as "look it up online and you've got a bomb". Chemicals must be mixed exactly right, your ignition system needs to be foolproof, and you need to park a truck in front of a large building (school, offices, otherwise) and leave it there unnoticed.
Successful bomb making requires tests or else there's extremely high probability of failure. It might take a few tries before your mixture of Brand X fertilizer, Brand Y Diesel, and Nitro Methane actually explode. If your whacky neighbor starts blowing things up, I'd certainly start notifying law enforcement. Blasting permits are required even for private property.
We've had 18 years for another lethal bombing and it hasn't happened. Bombs aren't as easy as guns.
Yeah, but who knows what those crazies gonna do when assault weapons are no longer available to them... Bombs may become popular among those who are hell-bent on killing as many as they can. The materials are readily available and so is the how-to on Internet. I hear some of those psychos have rather high IQs...
Don't assume assault weapons disappear in a vacuum. Like I said, bombs have been available before, during, and after the assault weapons ban and no one has used one except ONCE in 1995, 18 years ago.
How do we protect ourselves from crazies? Good question. Here's a thought: help them BEFORE they reach for a weapon to kill:
1. Improve mental health awareness, diagnosis, and treatment.
2. Force medical insurance companies to cover mental health treatments like any other physical illness.
3. Identify at risk individuals and help them. If beyond repair, add them to the crime database that prevents felons from purchasing weapons.
4. Remove unnecessary red tape from committing someone gravely mentally ill to a hospital for treatment.
With awareness, treatment, and support people with mental illness can lead normal lives and never harm a fly.
Man up America: Admit we have a mental health problem and FIX IT. Easy access to firearms only makes matters worse.
“Don’t assume assault weapons disappear in a vacuum.”
OH I DON’T. That’s why I don’t think banning them would do much good; or rather it’s counter-productive removing them from rightful hands such as ranchers who may need them to protect themselves against Mexican gangs.
I don’t disagree with any of what you said about taking care of the mentally ill. That’s why I feel new gun restrictions (which only sane & good people are gonna follow and have no effect on the crazies and criminals) are not the way to go. We should be talking about mental health issues instead.
Criminals and people who are not legally allowed to own a gun find a way to get one! Gang members find ways to get guns! Psychos ( THE PEOPLE DOING THESE TERRIBLE SHOOTINGS) find ways to get these guns!!! So why are you all pushing so hard to get these laws and have guns taken away?? Are you that blinded at you can not see that they will find a way to get a gun or make their own!!! Or worse, they will start making bombs!!! Blow up whole schools and buildings and towns! I sure hope that are sad government is not making up all these scams just to take guns away! The government should focus on the jobs that Americans need and the economy! They should focus on keeping America American! They should stop fighting for power democrat vs. republican and just start working together for the good of the American people! This country is becoming a huge joke! It's sad!
Columbine, Aurora, Sandy Hook,...these were not criminals who committed these acts. They were severely disturbed individuals who had access to both the weapons and the ammunition. Seems common sense that banning weapons designed for war and limiting the amount of ammunition legal weapons can hold might save a child or two. How does one argue with that simple fact? Seems to me that individuals pushing for sensible gun laws are, in fact, working for the good of the American people. Who, exactly, is blinded here?
All of the whackos had also shown signs that they were violent and none of that was reported or it was ignored by parent, caretakers, or therapists. At least some of this carnage could have been avoided if these care takers had acted and America required more of our mental health treatment and reporting of disturbed patients. the easy answer if eliminate the inanimate object...we always want to take the easy way out instead of concentrating ong the fact that parenting in this country is deficient for many reasons. there is no formal reporting process for the mental health indusrty to report violent patients who make threats, follow thorugh on mandatory sentencing. Yup let's penalze the minority and sweep these problems under the rug.
Connecticut Senate Bill 452 was put forward to remedy the fact that it lacks an “assisted outpatient treatment” law. But the bill was passed to Connecticut’s Joint Committee on Judiciary, where it quietly faded away because of opposition by those who viewed it as egregious and outrageously discriminatory.
Had this law passed, it may have forced Adam Lanza to be treated for his alleged mental illness instead of allowing him to roam free and ultimately to kill 26 persons in a vindictive rage.
Why didn’t the legislation pass? Because the ACLU and other “civil liberties” groups cried foul. The ACLU said the bill would “infringe on patients’ privacy rights by expanding the circle of who can medicate individuals without their consent.”
um A mom, if someone uses a gun to murder people then they are criminals what are you talking about?
& those places were gun free zones & nobody had guns so isnt that exactly what you want?
you dont make sense at all. gun laws to solve the problem of criminals taking guns to places that already have ban guns? duh do u not hear yourself talk?
oh maybe they didnt know murder was illegal so thats prbly why having a law on the books didnt stop them huh
To "A Mom"...Do you really think a criminal or a mentally ill person would obey any laws ?? There are 10's of millions of these semi automatics weapons and even more high capacity magazines in circulation and BTW they are not "weapons of war" or "real assault rifles" those are invented propaganda terms..And if they couldn't find one of these rifles they would use something else...The truth is that none of the proposed bans would have prevented the Sandy Hook tragedy or any of the other evil mass shootings.
HI IM PIERS MORGAN , I HAVE NO MANNERS , NO MORALS , NO COMMON DECENTY , BUT I WILL STAND ON THE GRAVES OF CHILDREN , AND DO EVERY UNDERHANDED THING I CAN THINK OF TO KEEP OUTRAGE GOING IN AMERICA, PATHETIC, SICKENING ,DISGUSTING, BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS PIERS , YOU LOST, THERE WILL BE NO GUN CONTROL , IT HAS BEEN DROPPED IT IS OVER, NOW WE NEED CNN TO DROP YOU.
1. Fix your keyboard, the caps lock button is stuck.
2. No one is standing on graves. If dead children aren't a legitimate cause for concern, I'm not sure what is. Let me know.
3. Get a life.
Piers thank you for continuing the fight for sensible gun laws. The use of the second ammendment is criminal on the part of those who ignore the murder and mayhem caused by the reckless assessability to firearms in this nation. Each tragedy starting with the murders from the Texas college campus tower so many years ago remains a painful reminder of the irrational mentality of those who would defend the right to bear arms, any arms. I am surprised they are not lobbying for flame throwers, tanks and bazookas. Wait, it may be coming and the idiotic Supreme Court led by people who have lost all human contact with communities may support it. Keep up the fight Piers there are cracks in the wall defending the maddness of gun rights. Also kudos for CNN and the support of your efforts.
so what do you propose? we set up laws that ban guns in places like schools? wth are u talking about?
what gun laws will you make that criminals will follow so we can avoid a situation where nobody has guns including the criminal?
You seem to think criminals have super powers, including the ability to find a gun when they snap and feel like going on a rampage.
The sad fact of all these shootings is that the weapons were all LEGALLY acquired and either used improperly or left unsecured.
None of these whackos had to go to a back ally to buy an assault weapon. Why bother? Order online or take one from your mother's closet, and off you go.
We should be making it harder to acquire these types of weapons, not easier.
Prediction, Piers Anthony will be the next prominent victim of gun violence. True, since New Town nearly 3000 Americans have died from gun violence. This is actually not much of a change from the norm.
Individuals such as himself who inflame the situation have caused a much more frightening trend. The surge of gun and ammunition purchases across the entire nation. I have personally visited two gun shops in the last two months. Not to purchase a gun or ammunition, but to see the effect of the media on the average individuals choices. All are sold out...... connect the dots....
Piers, go back to the UK and focus on the other forms of violence that are just as prevalent there.
IWhy is the USA so xenophobic and boorish toward us?It's a carbon copy of Dunblane, and we're only trying to help–France has got nothing to say,Germany's paying everyone's bills(China yours),Russia its usual BS and banning orphans going to US for spurious reasons:you're on your own apart from us,and, seeing as you speak English we can discourse
about things:on DAY ONE I heard on the British Broadcasting Corporation of people running like the clappers to gunsmiths
after parking the car up:trying to pin the upsurge of purchases on Piers is unfair and grossly inaccurate, and smacks of
Believe what you wish. I encourage you to do your own research, the problem is systemic, and exists in many forms in all human nature.
My own opinion, these events give media organizations the ability to focus attention on their own beliefs, which in the case of CNN is merely selling advertisements. I don't blame Piers directly, he is just one of the more prominent individuals in the media inflaming and scaring people in an already desperate situation.
The only cure is proper nurture. Something as a species we haven't been very good at since conception. Also, try and stay on topic and speak/type with your best ability. China is paying America's bills? Where does that come from in this conversation. "DAY ONE I heard on the British Broadcasting Corporation of people running like the clappers to gunsmiths after parking the car up:trying to pin the upsurge of purchases on Piers is unfair and grossly inaccurate, and smacks of scapegoating.
If you had read my post, you would notice that I pick out Piers, but blame the media for inflaming a situation. Where are you from? What is your background? I can only guess.
because shep herder dork agory is it, we got isses here at home and dont care about tea and grumpets, lad
Are ye single,lassie?
(We can "watch" Brave from the back seats...)
Said I'd look at your first post again:can't speculate on how inflammatory I find him 'cos I can't watch, but he DOES polarise opinion probably more than anyone I know.Hope you're wrong that he becomes a victim too;regards gun shows, read of one in Idaho where a guy asked for parts from a private dealer and got laughed at,waiting list as long as
Very tired of Americanc claiming that they won 2 world wars. It was an allied effort despite what Hollywood says and has brainwashed people into believing. Get over yourselves and stop rewriting history for your own glory. Check the real facts behind Argo. Come on. Build some real character,
My understanding is that the great majority of Americans support a ban on assault weapons, and yet the minority voice seems to get a much greater percentage of air time than fits the numbers. Where is the logic in that? Piers, given your position and the position of the majority of Americans, why do you still have these people on your show? I don't understand it. Do you think you're going to change their position? Their minds are slammed shut, and will never open except perhaps by gunshot wound.
I fail to see the logic of giving air time to the pro-assault weapon contingent. They seem perfectly capable of buying plenty of their own air time, which seems to be completely unnecessary since they've got Washington all tied up. What could possibly be the point of giving them more air time?
Sorry Sharon, but I have to correct you...
According to a USA Today/Gallup poll, a slight majority of Americans do not want assault weapons banned in the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., elementary school shooting.
Misguided, naive and WRONG
I'm for most gun controls, back ground checks, mandatory gun cources, trigger locks, safe storage etc. What I'd like to see is mandatory jail time for the people who don't keep their fire arms safe! Also I'd like to know why we can't fast track these mass murder people, like the movie theatre shooter? This guy is crazy, he'll never be fixed and what Dr would ever sign a paper saying he was ok to be released? He was caught in the act, they should give him 1 trial and let him claim insanity. Then the judge should agree and say the penalty is the needle, like next week! That will be the end of it, the famalies won't be fixed but they won't ever have to go to a parole hearing or worry that he'll be getting out of prison or a mental inst. I also think if they get caught in the process of committing mass murder they should be given 20 years with no parole, no matter what age they are. Maybe these people will start to unuderstand that you just don't go around killing people, especially young children! The biggest problem is the politians naturally, ever law they make in Canada and the US has to have a loop hole in it, that's the frustrating part. Give them 1 lawyer 1 trial by judge and 1 needle!
Watching the story about Emille Parker was one of the saddest news stories I have ever seen. Beautiful child, loving family, what a senseless, inexplicable loss.
I am not American, I am Canadian but have probably seen more of Amercia than 95% of the US population. I have tons of opinions about Guns in America but nothing to offer that nobody doesn't arleady know. The only place I feel safer today in America than I did 25 years ago is NYC. Unfortunately, as a visitor, I've concluded that America has become a more dangerous place to visit and not just the bad parts of cities but bad parts of the country. Except, I now have no idea where is safe and where is dangerous. Canada has similar issues, but not of the scale, although illegal guns smuggled in from America has grown as an issue (ordinary people can only own rifles in Canada, no handguns and no assault rifles. I don't know anyone who owns a gun in an urban area..
Let me telll you why I have come to this opinio about where America is safe or not.. A few years back, we were in Mystic Connecticut which is a beautiful town by the sea with world class tourist attractions (Mystic Seaport, Mystic Acquarium and Mystic Pizza), every hotel chain in America and lots of apparent law and order. It's across the state, about an hour and a half drive from NewTown and a few hours from Cape Cod. We stayed at a relatively upscale hotel in a large 3 bedroom suite. Our kids and friends kids enjoyed the pool and running around the hotel. All that changed when I picked up the phone. Two calls later from whomever was staying in the floor below , a man said that "if my kids made one more noise he would come up and shoot us all." I didn't understand the threat so he repeated it. "If they run one more time I'll come up and kill you." I of course told the kids (ages 4 to 8 at the time) to "freeze" and called front desk and repeated the conversaton word-for-word. What happened next at a major hotel chain shocks me to this day. "Sorry for the inconvenience sir," the manager said, "we'll move you to a new suite." No police, no swat team, it was nothing more of an issue than if the toilet above us backed up. The hotel staff helped move us (quietly) but nobody called the pollice or did anything about a clear threat to kill me and my family.. I kid you not. In Canada or Uk, or most of Western Europe, the whole wing of the hotel would have been evacuated and somebody arrested. You would have seen it on the nightly news but not in Mystic Conneticut on that day, where at that one hotel, one set of managers viewed it as an inconvenience. I would hope this was a strange occurance and not typical of Mystic CT but it happened to us. It was truly surreal.
Back to my main point,, where is America safe these days. This was not East Central LA. Mystic CT was like being in Disney World. It scared me. That was our last trip to Mystic Connecticut.
I don't really know the point of this posting other than to say I find gun violence in America to be very sad and a big scar on what is otherwise a remarkable country with so much going for it and full of fantastic and warm people.. What I can only imagine is that the money made from selling exotic guns and ammunition are a fraction of the lost tourist dollars. NYC won't suffer, but I can only imagine that fear of violence by guns is a concern to people like me that are not part of a gun culture. Obviously, in saying this, lives are worth more than tourist dollars. I just wanted to share with you my impresssion, as an outsider, of how I think America is being hurt by a growing gun cullture. To end, my heart goes out to all of those who lost loved ones in NewTown;. God bless them and the victims.
Hey Steve, good to hear from you(love Canada,Oshawa,3 weeks,' 77),writing from Edinburgh:troubling to hear your story,
and glad you were moved–hotels never like any fuss, that combined with a hard-bitten complacency as to what they
hold in their hands also part of it,and no end in sight.
if you felt safe in NY then you must be white. cops constantly violate & kill black/spanish people there.
they also have very high murder rate because they ban guns.
the best places in america are the places where responsible law abiding citizens protect their communities because they take personal responsibilty & also the arent afraid to take on the responsibilties that come with living in a free society.
Got news for ya cat the americans did win that war , and they won it with the factories at home , and being able to outproduce the enemy .
That's nuthin.BirmingHAM,England, home of the Supreme Monarchy Of The Earth, produced a MILLION Brown Besses mostly
used to colonise you.
And you were selling these weapons to for the duration of the war?
Cat, best give up.
Those that can't stay on topic or even speak complete sentences are not worth your time. They only help to inflame the situation and can't be doused by logic, reason, history or anything other than just ignoring them. I still try, but beating my head against the wall just gives me a headache.
Pre-school show at yell!! this is the puke your guys are arguing about. You cluelss morons!!!!
The results of the World Wars have NOTHING to do with the gun control debate. ZERO.
Pop Quiz: What is the only nation to have used nuclear weapons in combat?
We are hypocritical and rather arrogant to push an agenda of a nuclear free world when our own President authorized the only use of 2 nuclear bombs in combat in human history.
We love our weapons more than we love each other. Some things never change.
For those who are so adamant about keeping guns in anyone's hands, no matter their background, I think it will take personal tragedy for their opinions to change. How many people can experience the death of a loved one – an innocent bystander – at the hands of a someone wielding a loaded gun and not want a change?
I have never met read or spoken to any individual that wishes to "keep guns in the hands of anyone no matter their background." Give me an example of anyone apart from yourself that has proclaimed such nonsense.
Your latter point's a sound one:cops seem thorough in taking guns off people having a fractious time of it,recent case in point an NRA member involved with a domestic violence charge:police took 39 firearms.(They're the poor blighters who have to attend any incident, after all)Your first point good too:remember getting CNN on Freeview for a while, and there
WERE too many adverts often self-aggrandising,and I probably did just give that post a cursory read,go back and look at
it again.Take it easy,Greg.
I think the problem is the penalties these people get when they do these crimes. They get a minimal sentence for murdering when they should be executed. Execute these people when they commit a felony with a gun. That would slow these crimes.
I still see this as , mental health crime, not gun crime, doesnt anybody else, gun control would have not stopped any of this,
Girl grow up. The whole WW 1 & 2 is in the history books , we help bail out europes butts. dead point. what the "H" do you have a legitamate issue, again asked. these quacks are nobdy!
Nicky Lanza locking her guns away would, and he had difficulty interacting with just about everyone,so I presume having
to procure his own guns would be difficult.
Scare The Pilgriiiiiiims, where aaaaaaaare youuuuuuuuuu? You're the Daddy;have you read my response to your block caps,
underscored rant yet? William Wallace,Scottish Rebel(could kick your ass,STP!Bend yo guns round yo head!!)
Who's Piers Anthony, you mean Morgan, the person you hate but keep watching exactly what CNN anticipated?
Could you stand behind him?
Nope, I wouldn't stand behind him, I would continue to kick him and the media for scaring the public of a massively armed nation to become even more so. I try and see outside of my own shell. I also try very hard to speak correctly and not toss out other concepts in a regular situation. Most importantly I understand history well enough to make the connection of the way I use his name.
In the end, I do not want anyone hurt, still chuckling about your comments on William Wallace. He stood up for his cause, with arms, evil and destruction. Right or wrong, his arms and legs were spread to the four corners of the kingdom to make a MEDIA point. Sorry to use caps.
Perth,Stirling,Berwick, and Edinburgh, where I am:if Oor Wullie was evil what doth that make Longshanks.a man who made the Jews of England wear a yellow motif...a la Newtown,do you think there's any chance of a diminution in clip sizes?
sheperdork and lady cadiva its because it seems like in my and a majority that The NRA is likened to the third riech and dictatorship ( again thats just an opinion) but lets see who holds the NRA precious will we, NEXT....................
I agree Dana as far as it being a mental health problem and I think people should be able to own guns. I do think though that some of these checks and training is good. I want the gov. to do something with these people, lock them up or in the worst case execution. Forget trying to fix them and defend them for years and years. The only ones that benefit are the Dr's and lawyers!
I couldnt agree more or have said it better Brian, I recently purchased a couple of guns , and i went thru the background checks, just gets old being made to feel as if I am the problem since I own a gun. actually cleaning one right now, and all the yelling that piers does about the gun show loophole, which does exist depending on your state , but if you have ever went to a gun show, most of the guns are beat up , worn out , and are the kind of junk you wouldnt want anyway. Nothing is worse than sandy hook, but gun control wont fix it , will just make some feel better. if i was a state governor , id put security on the schools , like the national gaurd .
see now that staement is invalid you in your opinion ( which is cool ) most gun shows have beat up artillary which sounds like your saying most people dont want. But We have the evidence its on all the websites to goto we dont trust them ar far as we can throw them hecklers! We wont stop till we get our legislation through you got the five minute plan, we got the twelve year plan. see you then!
I have one less friend on Facebook this week. I lost a friend, not just a Facebook friend, a friend I have always known, one of those friends you do not recall meeting because they have been there since your earliest memory. This friend maintained the impish grin and sense of humor and dry wit I remember from our childhood together right up to last week. I am struggling with his loss and even more so because it is so tied to what I do and have worked so hard to stop. My friend bought a new cell phone and jokingly texted his sisters that he needed to take a class to learn the Apps the same day he went home and shot himself.
2 years ago an article from the New York Times from February 12 2011 was sent out to all of us working as Navy Mental Health providers on the 32% of soldier suicides dying by overdose of medications. I posed a question back to all: "What about the other 68%? I suspect they are dying by self inflicted gun shot." The response from these Military Mental Health Providers was not exactly positive. Then I simply googled "soldier suicide by gun" and found I was correct, 66% of soldier suicides were by gun. I also discovered that 74 % of suicide victims never showed signs of a major mental illness and had never seen a mental health provider. I learned that 90% of those who attempt suicide and survive never ever attempt again because death is not what they really wanted. I learned that most suicide is not planned, that 70 % of suicide attempts are within one hour of the decision and 24% within 5 minutes.
I, a Psychiatrist, learned that most suicide is impulsive. I learned that mental health treatment is not the most effective way to reduce suicides. I learned that simply reducing access to lethal means (meaning a gun) is the most effective way to reduce suicides. I learned that in 2006 Israel did something simple to reduce soldier suicides, Israel simply told its soldiers you can no longer take your gun home on weekends and holidays and the suicide rate immediately dropped 40%. I also learned that the Psychiatrists and Mental health provider seemed unaware of these facts because we only deal with those patients who are suicidal who sit across from us in our offices and 74% of suicide victims never have been, and never will be in our offices.
For 3 years now more soldiers are dying by suicide than die in combat. If they were dying by friendly fire something would be done. Suicide is friendly fire.
The Military surgeons have learned something very simple in Afghanistan and Iraq, the blood loss must be stopped quickly to save a wounded soldier, so every soldier goes into the field now with 2 tourniquets that can be applied with one hand, there is a "golden 5 minutes" to stop the blood loss. Who would have thought a simple tourniquet has been the biggest advance in saving a soldier's life. If they can survive to get to the Military surgeon the chance of survival is greatly increased. We can learn the same thing with the mentally wounded, if a soldier can survive the suicidal thought we can save them but if they have quick access to a personal gun when drinking and in an argument we do not have time to help them. We need to just think simple.
For 2 years now I have been working on this issue of guns and soldier suicide through every avenue I can think of to simply get the Military to add a public health education approach, similar to Mother's Against Drunk Driving. We need to educate soldiers and their families to reduce quick access to lethal means, in other words, to tell them it is not a good idea to have a loaded gun ready to go during times of stress. The Mother's Against Drunk Driving educational campaign has reduced drunk driving deaths by 37%.
I have been told repeatedly by Pentagon officials, and by my own Psychiatric community, that a comprehensive educational campaign addressing guns and soldier suicide will not happen. Specifically, everyone is afraid of the NRA and its backlash.
I have no doubt that lives can be saved if just a few fathers, mothers, siblings, spouses, soldiers, friends hear the message to safely store the gun for a bit until things cool down.
I lost an uncle to a gun in the home when I was 6. I lost a classmate at Bellarmine Prep to a gun when I was 16, his name was Ken, he sat behind me in Mr. Bucks History class. When I was 27, the Navy family sponsoring me, lost their 6 year-old son when a gun fell out of a closet and went off killing him. When I was in Family Practice in Minnesota, I was 32, my office Nurse' 12 year old son accidentally shot himself and died when he took his dad's rifle off the wall over the fireplace. A 16 year-old boy, one block up our street in Tacoma, shot and killed himself with the family gun 3 years ago. Once again a gun and death have come too close to home with the loss of a lifelong friend. None of these deaths have anything to do with my professional life; these are personal.
Personal and professional now have crossed too many times for me. Something must be done about the easy access to guns, not just in the homes of our soldiers, but in all our homes.
I miss my friend's laugh!
I may not agree with your feelings on the matter but I very much appreciate your perspective and hope to find more reasoned opinions such as yours.
Condolences for your loss(es). Having worked in mental health and being close to families who have experienced such devastating loss, I agree that most suicides are impulsive and most accidents preventable. Limiting access is just common sense. I am having much difficulty understanding why folks are so resistant. I wish you continued strength. We must all work together to help our leaders, lawmakers and parents understand.
Thank you Christopher S. for writing this. We sane americans hear you , now we are waiting for the irrational politicians interested in protecting their careers rather than lives to hear you. There is so point in saying "God Bless America" when the nation is on the path of major self destruction
If you really care about people, the best thing that you could do would be to do something about these dangerous psych drugs, specifically SSRIs. When there's money to be made, no one seems to care that they dramatically increase violence and suicide .
I too feel for all the gun deaths, as a kid i was always around guns , and is was not much of an issue, switzerland, has lots of guns and no gun issues, now i see gun crime rise, my question is what has changed, is it too many kids being raised without a older male figure that can teach firearm safety, is it modern day life and pressures, or is it too much medication with bad side effects, or a bad economy causing this ,I truly dont think it is the gun, it has always been there. What changed
Switzerland actually has an extremely high suicide rate and most of the suicides are by gun. Simple to look up.
You're assuming all else is equal with respect to Switzerland.
Their healthcare, particularly their mental health care and social welfare programs are superior to ours. Less people in poverty, less ill people, and less unstable people walking the streets keeps crime down.
That point is lost on the "me first" gun crowd. Take your choice: everyone gets a gun or everyone gets good healthcare.
If you think gun ownership is more important, fine. Unfortunately that's a rather sad comment that America values shooting people more than helping people.
The cause of gun violence is not the gun. Focus on the problems: poverty, lack of proper education, high dropout rates, generations of families locked into a cycle of living on government handouts, hopelessness, lack of family structure, lack of discipline in school and at home, an ever widening disparity in wealth, failure to control gang activity, etc.
The Battle of Athens, TN in 1946 is a perfect example of why our rights to bear arms should not be infringed. The 2nd amendment was not written to ensure that hunters can take game. The 2nd amendment was written to give the people the legal right to bear arms in order to retain their liberties.
The "assault" weapons that are being attacked are responsible for less than .1% of gun violence. Where is the logic in going after these types of weapons? Why focus on the minutia with inflammatory rhetoric? Weapons that resemble military weapons make for easy sensationalized targets. The equivalent of 20 Sandy Hooks take place in Chicago annually. Why is the focus on the types of weapons used in single incidents with high body counts instead of handguns which are the leading weapon used in gun violence? It makes for sensational news. It's not sensational News to report on the 1.5 murders which take place on an average daily basis in Chicago. Gun laws are not designed with safety in mind. Gun laws are not about safety, gun laws are about control; control of the people.
Do something of value, Piers. Organize people and coerce politicians into addressing the root causes of violence and let the approximately 100,000,000 law abiding gun owners alone.
Cheers to your post. I think reason and knowledge such as your share is where our hope lies.
"those ........or even speak complete sentences...." Check your own non- sentence and your arrogance. More than one topic was discussed on the program this evening and there are some among us that can grasp a couple of ideas at a time. Maybe if you didn't beat your head against the wall, you could grasp them, too.
Best give up now.
"Focus on the problems"
Good point, but until we collectively agree to address those problems you listed with comprehensive healthcare, beneficial social welfare programs, and better education, nothing will change.
Right now people seem to value gun ownership over advancing well being of others. Me first right?
Owning a gun will not solve any of the problems you listed. It will probably make them worse (suicide cleanup, trips to the ER for gunshot victims, mass shootings, accidental shootings, more money spent on law enforcement than other programs).
today is not the last two generations when our parents kicked us out of the house all day long to play and knew we'd better be at the dinner table at 6pm everyday. Sure let your kids walk 2-5 miles on there own little journey, thats child endagerment now. One of the kids wont come home. Grew up around guns , we alol di, but we all got dumber and clueless and the bored and banished got real clever and vilinous! turn your back on someone, keep that spirit, your path will crash in doom! Lets Not change a thing, Right......Right people. idiots!
Come on someone and tell me here who will let a basement full of bored teenagers now alone in your house with a closet full of guns.....or a GUN!!!!! speak up !
I have submitted two comments, neither of which have appeared, so this is an inoffensive test to see if anything I submit gets posted. I believe my comments met the Terms of Service of CNN, so I am writing a test..
Well, my test worked, so I must assume that my comments were not appropraite somehow. Here we are argueing about the second amendment, and perhaps we should be looking at the first.
I am curious about your previous posts, I think we should stick to the second amendment; however the content of your 'deleted' posts might show a trend in the media that does directly effect our abilities to have decent discussion on the issue at hand.
I may not share your views, but I share your concern. Two of my posts were misquoted and not allowed a reply, one of my posts disappeared. None violated Rules of Conduct unless you consider disagreement a violation of said rules.
well Bud, I think we should stick to predictive preventive maintanace on our normal round about daily living, and not worry about amendments. You see what you want, she sees what she whats it to mean. And well the majority of Americans are over what ever your interpretation is. Your neive! dangerous ( to yourself and our safty) lock up the dang gun BUD!
First off sm "lurn sum spellun adn sum grammur" reading you posts is like reading that a 8 year old Afghan child that can read or write.Second, No one needs to hear you speak, your silly and most of you arguments are so fragmented we can't make heads or tails....JUST SAYING ........get some schooling and come back.
Really JT, do tell me young whipper snapper, What issue do you want to really jump into? I'll talk about any issue and see if your educated or barley educated ( morales) and were not talking Grammer) speak
Maybe that basement full of bored teenagers, needs a grown man with a nice leather belt , and teach them some old fashioned discipline, and give them a few chores to do,
Not many chores to do in da basement though,Dana, just grope around in the dark with the Limeys...
(reminds me on 'The October Game' by the late, great Ray Bradbury!)
Oh man, this guy ( you kind of gotta like him) the point is you leave teens unattended and you get trouble and chaos. No kidding, im being serious with ya! Please pass the words around Sir!
well probably girl, but maybe if you start to communicate with your child and play with them when there crawling around and start from there you will instill morale values, unless you dont have any, thats really the whole issue here in America!
Three strikes and you are out. CNN doesn't want to hear the truth.
my man you our defenitely out of your element on this website, you belong on Fox news channel with Hannity and his weak minded, gullable rich mis-fits. were argueing and mean here but were blue collar people, just giving you the heads up. HAA, hes said CNN is misguided or something. Woooooo!
I have a tartan one,and no pants on.
Piers, i just wanted to use this space to tell you how much I admire your stance on guns and the courage with which you deliver your messages. Some gunnies call you a bully, but I say "Bully good!". I haven't watched every show you've done, but have followed with more interest lately. I want to add a couple of points (which you have already covered, I'm sure). On the second amendment, I believe it should be upheld – any citizen should be able to own muscats or single shot pistols (as were available in the 1700s – when it was written). Also, gunnies keep saying that it's not the weapon that's the problem, it's the user. Of course the problem is that we can't keep guns out of bad people's hands, so if we restrict the type of weapon available, it may save lives. My husband had an interesting solution – put into law that the OWNER of the gun will be co-responsible for and serve the sentence for the crime(s) committed. Extreme? Maybe gunnies will keep their guns under tighter lock and key. I can't believe it is a British citizen who's putting up such a brave fight for US citizen's right to the pursuit of happiness. Thank you, from a sane viewer. You must come from the same stock as Winston Churchill.
In juxtaposition to your ignorant rant on the second amendment:
On the first amendment, I believe it should be upheld – any citizen should be able to freely express their ideas with a quill, ink and parchment or with printing presses (as were available in the 1700s – when it was written). Freedom of expression should be controlled over electronic media and with modern printing technology.
Get a life, you Luddite. The founders were well aware that technology advances and the U.S. Supreme Court has stated as much.
The Supreme Court upheld the right to bear arms, but even Justice Scalia admitted the government can still regulate firearms usage.
That's the real question: regulating firearms so they don't fall into the wrong hands. While we're at it, we should fund mental health programs, anti-poverty initiatives, and youth activities so people are healthier and happier.
It's sad that people think owning a gun is better than helping others. Me first I suppose.
Farmers + Guns of our choice to get the job done= Food for the American people.
Farmers + Denied Firearms and Ammunition by Govt. due to new Gun Ban/Ammo Rationing Laws= American people will eat cats & dogs like Mexicans & Chinamen,,, I Promise .
Mr Best Sobriquet Of Them All,can you please read my responses to your earlier rants, and come round and cut me a new
Piers is definately not from the same stock as winston churchill,
@ Brian Underwood. I reviewed CNN's Terms of Service and cannot identify how any of my three comments did not comply.
My main point on this debate is that America's stature in the rest of the world will be affected by how it deals with its gun violence issue. As Piers Morgan has previously said, and the Congressman repeated tonight, America has the highest gun ownership and the highest gun violence of any country in the world and that the first creates the second. The rest of the world can see this.
Thank you, and I am glad your view was posted. I can't quite wrap my mind around my own experiences with this forum as well. Most of mine have been posted, there must be a moderator involved, but I think there might also be an 'executive system,' making automated choices based on what others might call abuse. Hard to say, I don't work in that office, but I smell rotten fish as well.
I wrote an opinion challenging the fellow from the NRA on his insult to Piers about the U.S. saving Britain because it 'had the guns'. I think that is getting rejected. Thanks for your observations. There appears to be some very tight screening of content beyond just the usual rejection of obsenities, etc. This is my second try at replying to you.
Robert I might have misjudged you, if I did im sorry, from what i gather you said ( yes The monitor is tuff) Our violence is so out of control its violence gone wild!!!! ludacrious and if the US dont get a hold on it our personal safty is doomed, and yes we are a big laughingstock of the world on this issue, you are right!
If you feel that your personal safety is in danger, carry a gun. it is that simple
We have different views for certain, we certainly seem to agree about the value of life. I am willing and curious about all reasonably stated opinions, how else can we learn. Have to laugh with you though. Another thing you can't mention is T E D – T U R N E R, that was the only commonality in my two posts that were not allowed.
That is a complete falsehood.
The United States has the 105th highest rate of intentional homicide.
The United States has the 11th highest rate of death by firearms.
My other point that may have been rejected is that I wish Piers would stop having people from the NRA on the show since I find they are repeating the same talking points, which I find are full of half-truths, non sequiturs, and mis-direction. I often turn the show off when they come on.
Why in a gun control discussion would we want to limii the nra , and you say they are full of half truths , do you listen to the lies that come from piers morgan, and by the way its a mute point , in case you havent heard the ban bill has been dropped, we are keeping our rights .
Dana, I am not going to argue with you. I find that the NRA is as I described them, and I find it painful to listen to them, when I know that it is costing American lives. But since I don't live in your country, I can avoid the violence. Best of luck.
Exactly. The NRA is preventing the US from being as great as a country as they think they are. NRA just wants to sell guns , bottom line.
Dana, you never LOST your rights, what you HAVE lost–for now–is the respect of the rest of the world.
Your own PRESIDENT isn't happy about the state of the nation, and the Mayor Of New York,in his opening remarks, isolates his own country. It might be OUR fault [taxation],but it's not about apportioning blame,it's about the future,
and Newtown is back to school.Kids are scared.
Dont bother with her Mr. Wyser she only cares about her own gun and her own little world, we can go jump off a cliff. Her beloved NRA ( The third Reich _ and thats my opinion) dictates the law , or it use to HAAAAAAAA! their Knowone anymore. Get ready for the New gun legislation to teach you how to protect us from you and not let your kids have access and then, then you might be able to goto the range and shhot of some rounds, youve all got to earn that. just like we used to teach or kids . Reward them for obideance see.......!
"The Third Reich..." Very ironic statement. You surely realize that the much like the US government, the USSR, and dictators all over the world, the Nazi regime were proud supporters of gun control, and loathed the idea of mere citizens having access to useful firearms. I'm sure you also realize the racist history of gun control. How the first "gun control" laws in the US, were designed to disarm blacks in the Jim Crow south. It is in history that we can see that "gun control" is not about "guns", but really about "control." The US government is of course the world's largest gun owner, and this year, it has mysteriously increased its annual ammo requisition by 1000%, from 150 million rounds to 1.5 billion rounds. So it is apparent that the rich and powerful men that control the media and the government, don't really hate guns at all. It is obvious that what they really hate are the people of the US. Specifically, they hate the idea that the population that they regard as the "serf class" have access to weaponry. I'm sure that you realize that though. I'm sure that you aren't some kind of useful idiot, the kind that powerful men can depend on to demand that they strip the population of their rights.
sur the nazis wanted gun controll, to controll everyone and to kill who ever they wanted
Thank you Robert Wyer, you seem like a sensible man how dosent like fudging around. What ever your views at least yous horse pucky meter goes off when a belidgerunt juvenile delinquent enters the conversation
Why can't I post?
probably because you are a stupid gun totting american
wow a real live Canadian,a drifter a far from obligations of Nato and its allies. we thought you were just a continueing blizzard and a long lost myth! who knew?
Yup, people who hold true to what NATO truly is, not just in times of our best interest.
Put them all in a barrel over Niagara Falls(AMAZING place, thought about jumping, too many insane Yanks scared of their own
shadows.Come on the Highlanders...
Niagara Falls,man,barrels,lots of 'em:we need a cooper.DB?Ya out there?
How about we try another approach, if only to try and make things better in the short term and not ruffle too many feathers and actually get something done.
Make gun owners responsible for their guns! The government could subsidize insurance companies by reimbursing claims related to guns. Place conditions on the subsidy like requiring that the gun user in the claim is required to have attended a local law enforcement endorsed/vetted gun safety seminar in the last X years. Increase the subsidy if the user willingly subjected themselves to a back ground check. Instill conditions on "best practice" for storage and handling. See how quickly you get the "do you smoke? Do you own a gun? Did you take a class?" questions added to your home insurance or your liability insurance questionnaires. See how quickly insurance rates go up when you answer "no", see how much you value owning that gun when you only own it on principle and not out of conviction or out of necessity?
You can also throw other civil type penalties for discharging a gun in a populated area, or within certain distances of roads and/or buildings. Make driving around with a loaded weapon in your vehicle illegal. Of course, add the appropriate exceptions to all this.
I think the best way they could approach this issue before even going forward with the above is start funding to research to dig into cause/effect and get some numbers. It's already obvious that handguns are the main culprit in this whole conversation. Everything else is akin to banning anything anybody could use to kill someone if their mind is set on it.
A journey begins with one small step, at least in this case the bigger the step the bigger the pushback, the more you stand still.
excellant effort, thats good thinkingand real problem solving. Thank you. Its been wriled around a bite , but is still fresh and a real, real reality in the near future. thinking outside the box isnt that easy! You know to in a populated area if youve got the ding dong who shoots off his gun, you kight of said something to him to suggest your displeasure of him firing his gun near your family-- call the DNR dpe of natural resources, they love investigating this. they will search your house on the stop ( legally ), if you had a complaint before they WILL seize your guns ( because you asked for it), and you know what incurtious people usually mean bech warrents, parole with a firearm " a NO- NO". 8 times out of ten the state gets a little imposed funding money for the state because of their iggnorance and dis respect for thei neighbors and community! the DNR is their to serve you with people who fire their guns in the city, og populated community! trust me , It works!!!!!
Center for Disease Control (CDC) funding for research on Gun accident injury and mortality was removed by the Republican Congress back in 1996 (2nd amendment trumped the first unfortunately).
USA=most disgusting country in the world. With all the rich and famous standing idle, watching children being murdered. The whole world hates America. How long can you fend that off? And now the NRA insults your closest allies. WOW! As long as the NRA exists, the world, the entire world, well hate America.
Are you Michael Moore?
Nope. Just a person who can perceive reality
I think that's what Moore thinks too, but many would disagree.
YA!! Americans. No one else in the world though.
Huh? Are you saying all non-Americans agree with Michael Moore?
tHANKS FOR A FEW SMART PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY,STOP SWEEPING THESE CRIMES UNDER THE RUG AND HIDING FROM THE INSANE
Reblogged this on shepherderdorkagoryteaandgrumpets.
To johns comment on are stupidity and the way the world looks at us hes totally right. Pure denial and ignorance of some weak minded people not wanting to do anything about the shear violence in all our cities. the majority of americans have spoken and leaned on the elected officials everywhere, we know what they vote for and will be held aCCOUTABLE. iF YOU LOOK INTO OUR us SENATE AND cONGRESS ITS ROLLING LIKE Dominos through the sessions and are coming through loud and clear, it will take about 6 years to see some real results, but we have spoken to our politicians and they got it, or or going to get it. the NRA is dead the lobyist are held it check and disolving ( my opinion of the NRA : third reich) is being defeated at every obstacle. things went arrey at the end of the 90's and we got sloppy. Parenting, re-affirming of children education and obediance, and strong accoutability of everyones weapon – great idea form above about gun insurance, spot on!
I apologize to you SM! I thought you were hating on my thoughts. I am only speaking from the heart. As a Canadian, I feel a deep connection to the US. But the past 10 years has driven a deep wedge. I know most Canadians don't put much interest in your affairs, however, we are one in the same, wether we like it or not. I am deeply ashamed of you BROTHER. For you are our big brother. But sometimes the big brother needs to take a page from his young brother
Let\s just get to the point. It does not matter how many children get murdered, AMERICANS want their guns, no matter the cost. End of discussion.
Let's just get to the point. It does not matter how many children get murdered, both AMERICANS & CANADIANS want their CARS, no matter the cost. End of discussion.
Canada has way more terrain, we can have as many cars as we want. Do you have any idea how big this county is? We look after our pollution. What can you say?
I'm just saying cars kill people including children too, and you are perfectly okay having them.
and only four majory cities, easy to covern eha
The "cars kill too" analogy is weak but if you want to use it, consider this:
You can buy a Fiat, Kia, or Hyundai and reach 120 MPH tops. You could buy a Maserati, Porsche, or Ferrari and maybe get to 220 MPH tops.
Guess what? Speed limit is still 65 in all but the most remote areas of the country, and still subject to weather and driving conditions.
Assault weapons are the Maseratis of guns. Their owners get a kick out of the ability to go fast and impress others, but in reality, they can't because doing 220 MPH down a state highway would be dangerous and illegal.
A speed limit is a reasonable restriction on car operation for safety. Gun laws, including magazine size restrictions and rate-of-fire capabilities are therefore equally reasonable, following your thinking. Also, it's not illegal to carry a gun drunk, but it is highly illegal to drive drunk.
Finally, even if your comparison had any basis in reality, you'd realize you're comparing apples and oranges. A car's purpose is to transport. A gun's purpose is to deliver a metal projectile into a target, with intent to maim or kill.
Again, the “guns are deigned to kill and cars are not” argument, as if other things if not designed to kill, it’s okay for them to kill people. It is illogical to fixate on guns when cars kill PAINFULLY WAY WAY more. I’m only saying that if we had more discussions about stricter traffic laws instead, we can save “many many many more” than banning AR-15s. You really want to save lives, or you want to save ONLY gun victims?? Or you just want to get rid of scary looking guns, because they scare you...
You are not scared of the fact that we lose roughly 90 LIVES EVERY SINGLE DAY in our country by car accidents... Yet you are scared of the fact that so-called assault weapons have caused average 42 deaths a year? (Sen.Feinstein. said 350 deaths have occurred since the ban was lifted on Sep.13, 2004)
And getting rid of those guns would only make the attackers choose different methods to carry out the atrocities, so how many do you really think we can save by banning them? And don’t you think the ban will create a thriving Black Market? so only criminals will have them?
You missed my point entirely: if it is reasonable to restrict the use of vehicles to transport in the interests of safety, despite the individual vehicle's ability to perform better than the established standard, then it is reasonable to regulate guns.
It is not illogical to "fixate" on guns if cars kill more people in the aggregate. I'm interested in preventing death, period. It is painfully obvious guns need further restriction.
You also lack a fundamental understanding of intended use. Of all the car related deaths that occur, how many people started their car and thought "I going to cause a pile up and kill 20 people today". Their intent was to operate a motor vehicle to get from A to B. Picking up a gun is a different story. The intent of using a gun is to injure or kill a target. You can't use you gun to get to work.
If you can prove that all car deaths are caused by a clear intent to cause harm, your point stands, but the fact to that matter is that "car accidents" are called "accidents" for reason.
Murderer who use firearms can't say, "Sorry judge, it was a snowy day, I had to get to work fast, and I lost control of my gun and it killed 6 people". On the other hand, someone driving a car that resulted in a pile up could say such a thing, and forensic evidence would prove they attempted to brake, how fast they were going, and if others were following too close, etc.
Guns and Cars are not similar, don't kid yourself.
How does it matter if the killing was intentional or not?! Once you are dead, YOU ARE DEAD, period!!
Are you by any chance saying gun victims and car accident victims are totally different, like apples and oranges? If so, could you explain why and how they are different? A friend of mine’s 7 years old daughter was killed by a reckless driver and the family’s grief was unbearable for me to watch... so please explain why his daughter’s life is “different” from that of Sandy Hook victims... Your heart (so is mine) bleeds for the 20 children who died in the shooting, but you ignore the 2,000 children that die in automobile incidents every year? Because their deaths are “different” from gun victims’ and deserve less attention?? Did you even read what I posted??? ...“FOR CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 2 AND 14, MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH.”
Any death, car, gun, disease, accidental, suicide, is tragic. We all agree death is painful and difficult. Preventable death needs to be examined closely as we continue to evolve.
We're not agreeing on motive and method.
You just said the driver was deemed reckless, not murderous. The courts obviously found them guilty of vehicular manslaughter. I highly doubt that person got in the car with the intent to take another person's life.
A shooting is a different matter. Someone who picks up a gun with the intent to kill can't say it was reckless or by mistake, especially if they have a motive for doing so or a mental defect that prevents them from understanding the consequences of their actions.
I don't want anyone to die needlessly. Terrible accidents are horrible and wrong, but there is a world of difference between a car accident and someone shooting up a store for drug money, or a deranged youth going into a school and killing 20 kids and 5 adults.
Newtown was preventable. What are we going to do about it? Run in circles and ignore the obvious reality that firearms are falling into the wrong hands?
How does “motive and method” matter more than “how often it happens”?? Either with an intent or not, that driver killed my friend’s daughter, are you saying he should be happier because at least the guy didn’t intend to kill his daughter?? By saying gun victims and car victims are like apples and oranges, you dishonor his daughter’s life, you dishonor all the innocent people who died in car accidents. According to your theory, it’s okay to have a lot of manslaughter, as long as there are no murders... if that’s your logic, then I won’t ever understand that.
You think “Newtown was preventable” if Lanza didn’t have an assault rifle? Are you saying he would’ve totally got discouraged from committing a mass killing altogether simply because he didn’t have that type of gun? Didn’t he have multiple handguns? Also, he could’ve built a homemade bomb, like Timothy McVeigh who killed 168 people. 19 kids under the age of 6 were killed, by the way.
Do you really think we can prevent “firearms from falling into the wrong hands” by banning them? Aren’t we only giving Chicago mafia and Mexican cartels more reasons to thrive in their Black Market trading???
1. I'm not dishonoring anyone's death or children. You know that. This is a debate about gun control. I made no derogatory remarks about the victim or their family. Debating the merits of a comparison between cars and guns does NOT trample on the victim's legacy.
2. Did the reckless driver INTEND to kill? No. That doesn't make it any better or right, no innocent lives should be taken. The problem is, when people use a gun, they mean to kill. When they use a car, they mean to get from A to B. Big difference, and two separate problems that both need attention in different ways.
3. You have to consider firearms and car usage in proportion. Some people spend 3 hours a day commuting to work. More time in the car increases the likelihood there will be in an accident. Again, someone driving to work doesn't set out to cause a fatal crash.
If the frequency and volume of car usage is substantially higher than guns on a daily basis, of course there will be more accidental car deaths.
Here is where INTENT matters. According to Wikipedia:
a. Car deaths per capita USA 12.3, middle of world rankings.
b. Gun deaths per capital USA 10.2, near top of the rankings and second only to Brazil in 1st world countries.
Yes, more people die from car ACCIDENTS. However, an equally alarming number die from firearms. 0.2 of 100,000 firearms deaths were determined unintentional. It's safe to say the number unintentional car deaths per 100,000 is MUCH higher.
Intent matters. That's why guns are a problem.
1. You said, there’s a world of difference in the two types of deaths. You said I was kidding myself by trying to address the car accident issue, and calling for stricter traffic laws is somehow less important than gun-control.
How about if I say to those gun victims’ families that at least they didn’t die in a concentration camp after years of hard labor? Do you think that would make the families of gun victims feel any better?
2. Again, why does intent matter so much?? The horrific end results are the same. Your loved one is gone!! And that happens way more often with cars than with guns!! Why do you say “That doesn’t make it any better or right,” and still differentiate two types of deaths?
And guns also PROTECT LIVES. I don’t own an assault rifle, but if someone wants to protect himself against gang bangers that may outgun him, it’s not my place to say that he can’t have it, just because I myself don’t need it. And I think there’s a good possibility the sight of assault weapons can intimidate even armed criminals causing them to flee (you may not have to even fire a shot). That is a life saved! Wouldn’t it be a great defense mechanism for anyone, especially if you are a small-built woman or a senior person?
3. “If the frequency and volume of car usage is substantially higher than guns on a daily basis...,” -- YES, that is why we need more regulations and restrictions on driving! You are making my argument for me.
Is your focus on the world rankings or actually lessening the number of needless, preventable deaths of any form (“saving lives”) ?? INTENT DOESN'T MATTER TO THE DEAD.
4. And you didn’t answer my questions.
A.) Do you think “Newtown was preventable” if Lanza didn’t have an assault rifle? Are you saying he would’ve totally got discouraged from committing a mass killing altogether simply because he didn’t have that type of gun?
B.) Do you really think we can prevent “firearms from falling into the wrong hands” by banning them? Aren’t we only giving Chicago mafia and Mexican cartels more reasons to thrive in their Black Market trading???
Yup, prohibition did not work either... it stimulated the proliferation of rampant underground, organized and widespread criminal activity. Many were astonished and disenchanted with the rise of spectacular gangland crimes, when prohibition was supposed to reduce crime.
No, stupid drivers kill children. Stupid gun owners kill children. The world hates the NRA. BOTTOM LINE.
Then let's lock up the stupid drivers and stupid gun abusers who kill people and let's not ban cars or guns.
hmm, well it is obvious you are a true idiot. People in cars get in accidents. People with assault rifles murder people
But cars kill MORE than assault rifles do. Is there any difference in death between being killed accidentally or being murdered? Is the former less dead than the latter?
That’s been my argument too! If a person is fatally shot with a gun and if a person is fatally hit by a car, ARE THEY NOT BOTH DEAD??
Canada = naive
Drunk driving is not an accident. driving while on the phone or texting and killing someone is not an accident. Take your blinders off
By far the most common type of injury accident involving children are those that also involve motor vehicle collisions. According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), nearly 250,000 children are injured every year in car accidents. This means that on any given day nearly 700 children are harmed due to accidents on our roadways. OF THE 250,000 KIDS INJURED EACH YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 2,000 DIE FROM THEIR INJURIES. Children make up about 5% of total fatalities due to car accidents. In fact, for children between the ages of 2 and 14, “motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death.” Car accidents are also the leading cause of acquired disability (e.g., brain injury, paralysis, etc.) for children nationwide. And approximately 20% of the children who die in a car accident each year are killed in accidents involving a driver who is legally intoxicated. Nearly half of these children were killed while riding as passengers in an automobile driven by an intoxicated driver.
Hi Nae,welcome to Comments
First thing I would say regards your first post is unless the car is used as a weapon from the get-go,driven at someone for example,it's not premeditated murder:with all the shootings we've had it primarily seems to be about settling scores,as
premeditated as it can be.Agree the stats are appalling:I saw a 13-year-old knocked down and killed 30 years ago, people
frantically trying to rouse him,and it never goes away.
It doesn’t make me feel any better if my child was not gunned down, but killed by a careless driver. The latter possibility is 3-4 times higher, I, for one, want to see something MORE gets done about it. Why on earth aren’t we having heated national discussions over it? Why isn’t Mr. Morgan hosting shows after shows after shows inviting traffic experts and talking about it??
Thank you for your diligence on this gun safety issue, Piers Morgan. I feel you're doing a great service to our country as well as the world to spearhead the issue on television.
I just wanted to come to the board on behalf of my mom, brother, and myself and say that as an American, I'm extremely offended watching these American gun lobbyists and the like coming on TV and insulting you to your face as well into the public's eye for being British, as if that's a bad thing. There is an obsessive talking point that is frankly disgusting and smells of small-minded racism that is decidedly anti-British, and obviously the point of it is to attempt to dilute what you're trying to say. Makes me sick to my stomach. But I appreciate how you respond with grace and don't play into that hate tactic. Thanks in advance for keeping the conversation going. We can't let that so-called Connecticut Effect die out like they are insidiously hoping for, not this time. Kind regards.
Keep those candles burnin',buddy.Piers is a very capable man, made mistakes in the past but has paid his dues, and he can STICK IT TO THEM LIKE A GOOD 'UN! Did you see his first interview with some nutter who made the NRA look capable?Called him stupid to his face in the first minute(try doin' that in the street...)Nice to have your support:I'm from Edinburgh, and right behind him on this, and I've had it all, dude:limeys, talking German,blah-de-blah-de-blah...
In an ideal world people would read PDF files on Dunblane, but I guess we're not there yet.
I think many of us are more emotionally-driven than logically. Don’t you think most of us will agree to much stricter traffic laws, if we see the vivid images of each car accident that happens every single day? Automobile-related death happens four times more often than that of gun-related, but we just don’t know it. Because we got so complacent about car accidents, the media won’t take time reporting them. See, most people are not afraid of driving even though they should be, but afraid of military style rifles that kill fewer. The numbers tell us that driving is more dangerous, but the sensationalized images of mass shootings tell us to be scared of the latter more. When our emotion takes over, we lose the sense of logic.
I know most anti-gun people dislike the gun/car analogy, but isn’t it because it reveals the dead truth about the hypocrisy on how indifferent they are about car accident victims? Isn’t it because they don’t want any stricter traffic laws imposed on them, even to “save lives”? Are the car accident victims’ lives somehow worth less than the lives of gun victims? I think not.
Nothing surprises me any more about the NRA,and I bet the soldiers aren't happy when they come home to find Joe Soap
with machine guns comin' out his ears.
The U.S. Soldiers In The Viet Nam War carried weapons sent to them from home by family members. !2 ga. pump-action shotguns and . 357 magnum revolvers for 2 most common. My neighbor of 20 years is a Viet Nam War Marine Vet and we talk often. The M-16 was an aluminum frame firearm designed by an air force jet engine designer engineer. He designed it to operate like a jet engine . Their are 2 types of Gun powder used in military ammo. Ball Type and Stick Type. There was a surplus of ball type propellent and the rounds for the M-16 were loaded with it and the gun JAMMED a lot. When the M-16 at a later date was equipped with a Chrome-lined barrel and the Gun Powder ( propellent) was switched from ball type to stick type the jamming issue faded away. Soldiers in firefights in Viet Nams Jungles were in fire fights and M-16's jams and soldiers died. So many soldiers sent letters home to family and family members sent guns that worked and thats the way it was when I was a kid. Lotta bad info out there,,and it all has a correction somewhere in the internet if you look. Piers Morgan is a pig, oink oink,,<- see ? :)
Ban the Assault type of Guns from the Public, just no need. Lets save some lives. The NRA has its head up its ARS! This is 2013, not the 1800"s , get real. Its all about MONEY & POWER, nothing else.
There's 24-hour production right now in gun factories just to deal with backlogs, and the manufacturers are milking this for all it's worth.

Hi there, tried reading your entries for Newtown on WordPress, but each time I click on to see more words it takes me back
to the CNN site.Do you know what I'm doing wrong?Wait to hear from you.
“Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it.” – Edmund Burke
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." – George Santayana
It’s only been 70 years since WW2 ended. And already, many people have forgotten the important teachings from the most unfortunate event, for example, how Hitler so quickly came to power in a formerly “democratic” country and triggered a world war, and how over 60 MILLION people were killed in the atrocities of WW2.
“Our children's safety and future” is the VERY reason why we the people need to be well-armed. Lives equal to 6,000 years of gun victims can be lost only in a matter of a few years if we couldn’t prevent another world war...
That is why we the people must always watch what our government does and always have the power over the government (by physically outgunning them) and make sure that any power-hungry politicians with tyrannical tendencies know their limit, that their wildest dreams wouldn’t ever come true (so they won’t even dare try) because the people have the power to fight against the corrupt government to the bitter end. And it is our moral obligation to pass on this “power of the people” to the later generations as our Founding Fathers intended, to ensure that our great-great-great-grand-children will enjoy the freedom that we enjoy today. We must fight tooth and nail to preserve the Second Amendment.
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” – Benjamin Franklin
In 2011 the total firearm murders came to 8,583 according to the FBI. Now during that time the total murders committed by rifles – all rifles, not just semi-automatic rifles – were 323. That's 3% of all murders. Hammers and clubs killed half again as many people as rifles. Hands and feet murder twice as many and knives kill five times more Americans than all rifles combined. Preventable medical errors killed about 98,000 people per year. Medical malpractice kills more than twelve times as many people as are murdered in the US each year. That's more than three hundred times the number killed by all rifles – not just the so-called assault rifles. No one talks about limits on hammers or knives or doctors or hospitals. No one does that because the good we perceive from hammers and knives and doctors far outweigh their perceived harm and yet studies show that firearms prevent anywhere from 800,000 to over 2,000,000 violent crimes every year. The lowest estimate means that 100 times more violent crimes were prevented with firearms than the total murders committed with firearms.
12 million unarmed men, women and children were unable to resist being murdered by their own National Socialist government in Germany. Perhaps 50 million unarmed men, women and children were murdered by their own Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. 50 million Chinese murdered by their own government under Mao who also disarmed his people, and in Cuba and in Vietnam and in the killing fields of Cambodia. Now you say that can't happen here. You say we're protected. BY WHAT??
– Watch “GUNS (Virtual State of the Union 2013)” by Bill Whittle on YouTube.
Beautiful, beautiful talented child...killed by horrible, horrible deadly guns. When will you learn, America, when will you learn?
Condolences Mr Lanza, on your loss...Thanks Piers, for keeping this story going so that one day Americans may in their psyche repulse guns in their society.
Piers: Yes, ban 'WOW'! -'Weapons of War' On Main St., but I agree with the NRA operative in one respect, namely that's it's MENTAL HEALTH IN AMERICA, not guns (knives or poison!) that's the Central Issue here, yet the media & Congress still keep it on the backburner. A CRAZY world will not want to tackle Mental Health.
ATT: Sen. Harry Reid: All congressional weenies like yourself should be obliged to view & weep at the video of SANDY HOOK's beautiful, little angel EMILIE PARKER. -A Caring Citizen.
SANDY HOOK: How can any representative in Congress dare tell the American people that they have 'NO COMMENT' on banning 'WOW' -'Weapons of War' on Main St., after we've suffered one of the great American tragedies of the New Millennium?
Old Time Traditional American Thinking. Never listen to a man giving advice when he started out with "Nothing To Lose", AKA Piers Morgan- Brit from Great Britain Exiled by that country for crimes and told never to return so he sought asylum in America and did what anyone in his situation would do...Start A Cult ..which has a small following of weak minded numb nut young people who don't know what America really stands for yet because they are under 40 years old. FACT
What you on about,STP?Exiled from Britain?Banished?Hasn't happened since James I,my bucolic friend.
I've read your posts:you're a raconteur, and you lock 'em in a safe unlike Nicky Lanza, but you never respond to anyone, and
I also think you're a rube.
II also think you're purposefully not replying–where's the Rube's Riposte?
(In fact where is anyone?NO-ONE ELSE HAS POSTED FOR THREE HOURS! ARE YOU ASLEEP? WAKE UP,YANKS! YOUR
COUNTRY NEEDS YOU.
'Is there anybody out there?' Pink Floyd,The Wall.
' and four majory(?)cities,easy to covern(?)eha(??????)...'
S&M,you need a man in your life!

Lots of arguing, but the simple thing to do is hold a referendum or vote on it by the people for the people.
If more than 50% vote for the ban will the NRA accept that? Or dont we love democracy?
a couple things are for certain.
the victims of this tradegy were unarmed so they were killed.
we live in America where our right to protect our country is law because of our const"tution & that cant be changed.
you can either learn how to be responsible for your own safety or you can be vunerable like a little baby.
Good to hear from you, read your other posts.
I can't see how a child could assure their own safety versus someone wielding a gun,and if you're inferring arming teachers you're straight into a crossfire / ricochet situation potentially.Who gets the short straw?
If someone walks into my house with an AR15 they will be met with multiple gunshots & I use hollowpoints so they dont richochet.
So Ive found the secret it solving this problem of stopping gun violence, along with 90,000,000 other Americans, while yall are wasting time on something that makes everyone more vulnerable.
You realize rifles were banned in that state & it was a gun free zone & the terrorist used stolen guns? & what legislation do you want to see passed? Oh yea more of that same legislation that created a place like that for a terrorist. Great ideas you guys got!
Oh Boy!! NS Your version ( like alot of peoples version) is the main reason of huge concern for the majority of americans safty with the way many think their stored away ( loaded and easy access), point and fire first and not assess the danger or who is the perp. weve got alot of word ( educating and training) and probably gun liability insurance!!!
oh is that so SM? then why is there 300 million guns in this country & you are more likely to get hurt by something random falling on your head then by a gun accident?
get real, they arent hard to handle & if you get a quality safe that locks to the floor or wall so it cant be stolen then you wont have problems as long as you are always in immediate control of any firearm outside of your safe...
you realize people are now just using 3d printers to make magazines & receivers right? so it doesnt really matter what you want people to do , they are doing what they want
YES!!! your in denial. watch that bullet in your butt from your community ( logical view point only) You cant controll the conditions once you or your children step outside into the Chaos we created and promote, Stupidty, pure stupidty. And an even greater blunderous mistake is you having a gunTNS!
Piers, I, too, am outraged by the 3000 persons killed by gun violence since the Sandy Hook tragedy. I am also outraged by the 3500-4000 innocent and defenseless children who lose their lives to abortion every day in the US. 3500 per day and 55 million since Roe v. Wade. Can you devote a show to that some time soon? Al Jazeera recently aired an honest and substantive segment on abortion with guests from both sides of the issue. Is abortion the greatest destroyer of peace in the US as Mother Teresa proclaimed or is it really just a matter of privacy as the Supreme court ruled 40 years ago?
Can this episode be re-aired? :)
Man, do you work with the Piers Morgan blog or do you practically live on this board? Your comments seem to be everywhere.
Anyway, I'm talking about the episode that talks about this subject, "Father on losing daughter in Newtown shooting: "She embodied so much in her life...from the moment that I met her...I realized that I was blessed"" – hence why I posted on this post. Wanted to watch again and record on the DVR.
Yeah, guilty as charged, bit of a blast on Saturday!
I'm in UK,and haven't seen it either,unable to watch online(solution,eh?)
Maybe CNN has a player like the BBC i-player,progs available for 7 days(or YouTube, maybe?)
Think it's the same guy in the HOR the NRA were heckling while he was speaking,
I truly cannot understand the thinking when CNN hired Mr. Morgan to replace Larry King. When he has an invited guest that he disagrees with, he constantly interupts, talks over them and rambles the same thing over and over and over again not allowing the guest to express his or her views. He also continually compares the US to the UK in a negative light. If the UK is so great, he should go back and I really wish he would. He is too difficult too listen to, so I have quit watching. Please replace him with someone that is fair and balanced.
Well Seahn Hannity from that other news flop said it this weekend , right out of the weiners mouth, " I want to bomb Irans so-called experimental site!" Sure Sean lets start another WAR! didny accomplish nothing with illegal Iraq war, many american soilders DEAD! Havent sovled anything with Aphganastand WAR- pro american afghanastand presindent is slandering our us military leaders and soilders and putting a personnal civilian bounty on their lifes! S&M doesn't speak English:S&M speaks S&M,continually comparing the NRA with the Third Reich, and I love her.
(Where's that darn light switch?I'm exhausted,my little American chickadees...)
I think sheppard you know america knows about the Third reich, which darn near consumed England, right! And yes the NRA dosent give a tick turd about any individual in America ( my opinion) they would sell our souls to the devil for their beloved ( Lobbyist GUN MANUFACTURORS) And yes a bit worse than the third reich ,but inculde the embarrasement of stupidity!
Give me something Hun! Not guns, not War, Show me your intelligant in family morales, marriage, most important your childrens ( or future children) school, teachers, network, and logic on homework. Who your kids hang around, do you know therir parents! Speak girl!
What you belong on Fox news website, or what? Spell it out honey!
CNN wants to get to the truth, not discriminate on Grammer, religion, or especially Race. Or do you disagree hun?
What is "discrimination on grammar" ??
OH quite a few ( you know who you are) twits on this site can not defend their responce to an issue, only to insult on a basis of ones Grammer ( spelling). None of the twits can defend their amswer or give a simple responce ( They seem to want Eugene, Piers deported for dicind their views . No nonsense !
Oh so sorry! D-e-f-e-n-d their views. Really!
OK, sm, but if you make too many grammar mistakes and really bad misspellings, a lot of people simply cannot understand what you're trying to say and you simply lose us... you know just in case you never thought of it...
FAO Dana + sm
Did you know Piers has a post on here?Near the top,and there's a reply from me to him below it along with

(I think the bulb's broken...)
while yall are all wasting time on what guns to ban & why people shouldnt have personal freedoms, we are 3d printing guns anti-assault rifles so all of yall are just irrelevant. this is no country for old men, mr morgan.
you cannot protect anybody by banning things that are only used to kill based on someone's intentions. they will kill people with whatever they feel will get the job done if thats their intention.
only protection you can have is if you learn how to protect yourself & thats why we do this – PEACE

IS ANYBODY OUT THERE , FEEL LIKE THE LONE RANGER
Most youth are not into stress-relieving activities because they find it really boring. They often conjure images of someone meditating for many hours, sitting with a lotus pose, or doing Tai Chi activities. These activities are suited for older individuals but for the youth, you can always do simple and fun activities that can relieve stress. Soon, you will feel better and you get to enjoy your teenage days.:
Look into our new web blog too
Thanks for another informative website. Where else could I get that type of info written in such a perfect way? I have a project that I am just now working on, and I've been on the look out for such information.
