Fmr. Senator Olympia Snowe: "Seeking the truth should be a bipartisan pursuit"

As new emails thrust the deadly attack on the US compound in Benghazi back into the political spotlight, and with reports surfacing that allege the IRS targeted the Tea Party, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Live" invited Olympia Snowe to share her political insight and perspective.

A former Republican senator from Maine, Snowe surprised many by choosing not to run for what would have been a fourth term, sighting an inability for Democrats and the GOP to work together effectively.

Speaking live with Piers Morgan, the 66-year-old detailed her sentiments Monday night:

"Congress needs to get to the bottom of it and I think the White House has to provide those answers, but it has to be done on a bipartisan basis," she said, referring to such issues as Libya, and political targeting by the Internal Revenue Service. "Seeking the truth should be a bipartisan pursuit. Republicans cannot be overly political about it, and the Democrats cannot be overly dismissive."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Snowe reveals the reaction amongst her colleagues after ending her political career and authoring a book entitled "Fighting for Common Ground: How We Can Fix the Stalemate in Congress."

Great interview with Olympia Snow and at the same time sad that the Hill is so askew. Americans have become apathetic and untouchable politicians are taking advantage of the prolonged mood. Thank you Piers for speaking this disheartening truth.

Piers Morgan SHAME ON YOU your coverage on the GOSNELL Murder of babies born after an abortion was abominable!!! You call yourself a CATHOLIC – where did you receive your catechism training? What do you teach your 4 children? You failed to do your journalist job when you did not call Gloria Alred out on her failure to address the babies that Gosnell killed. Not ONCE did Alred address the death of those children and YOU let her get away with it. You failed to invite a pro-life point of view on your show. You were not fair or balanced in your coverage of the Gosnell case. I realize that your strings are pulled by those who pay your paycheck BUT you failed to honor your role as a journalist to represent BOTH sides of the issue. Time-wise you also failed to give this topic the air time it deserved. Please do you viewers a favor and invite Lila Rose of Live Action or Mary Spaulding Balch, the National Right to Life Committee's director of state legislation. Piers thank you for reading and responding to this viewer’s comment.

Thank you Piers – for interviewing Olympia Snowe. If John McCain had the wisdom to ask Olympia Snowe to be his VP, he might well have been President of the U.S. – for one term. And Ms. Snowe would have been our first female president and America would be better for it! It's not too late...WISE WOMEN WHISPER & VOTE...Granny Gin

"All leaders command respect, even you I would hae to respect as a judge for entertainers, politics?? not so sure?
But Idiot Obama never earned any respect from me at anytime. He's that wrapped-up in his own self importance, he's a clown!! He actually thinks he's important because he won trust from millions of black down-and-outs. He's a joke
of importance, and will never be anything else!"
