Bob Costas on the need for gun legislation: "There's going to be another Aurora, there's going to be another Newtown"

Coming up this evening at 9, Piers Morgan invites Bob Costas to join him in studio for a wide-ranging, primetime interview that is equal parts wildly entertaining, and completely candid.

As part of an hour-long conversation conducted in front of a live audience, the man who's hosted a record nine Olympic games shares his stance on gun control and firearm legislation, offering a response to those that suggest assault weapons with high-capacity magazines are necessary as a means of self-defense:

"They always present this theoretical - 'well, what if there's not one or two invaders to my home, what if there's 10 or 12 and after I've killed the first eight or nine, I need to reload?'," quotes Costas. "Yes, let me know when that happens. And between now and when that happens, sadly, there's going to be another Aurora, there's going to be another Newtown."

Speaking from the heart, with his trademark brand of eloquence and perspective, the eight-time National Sportscaster of the Year award-winner elaborates further on his objection to the notion that increased legislation equals an infringement on one's Second Amendment rights:

"They try and make it sound as if everyone who proposes even the most common sense and moderate gun regulations is really only up to a nefarious game, which is about confiscating their guns so that a tyrannical government will have them at their mercy. Go talk to Gabby Giffords' husband, an astronaut and a gun owner. Talk to the former Phillies and Yankees manager, Dallas Green, a lifelong hunter, a collector of John Wayne movies, whose granddaughter was among those shot and killed in the Gabby Gifford incident," explains Costas, in the process revisiting a theme he'd addressed in a previous appearance on "Piers Morgan Live." "Tell those people that they're sort of mealy-mouthed, panty-waist, non-patriotic gun haters. No, they're not. They're sensible Americans who see that there's a situation that's out of control and don't want the national debate to be controlled by extremists."

Nodding with approval, the host simply adds, "well said, Bob Costas."

Tune in this evening at 9 as the 60-year-old with nearly 20 Emmy Awards to his credit touches upon everything from Lance Armstrong's use of PED's, to bigotry at the Masters, and Jason Collins coming out.

Ok. There WILL be MORE shootings. More SCHOOL shootings. More innocent victims. So why not be honest and SMART about it? Based on the FACTS of over 95 percent of mass killings in America no current or proposed gun control legislation would have had an effect. Gun free zones are where virtually ALL mass killings occur, so thats useless. The killers either procured their weapons illegally or PASSED background checks, or got them from someone ELSE that passed those checks. NO ONE got them at a gun show. Take Nwtown as an example. Would a backgroud check have stopped a teacher from getting those weapons? She had NO police record. She'd pass ANY background check. So you COULD try and eliminate all guns... But thats impossible. You COULD try and put police everywhere that there might be victims... but thats too expensive. Or MAYBE you could TRY and put a BIT of REAL money into our REDICULOUS mental health care system and find and police the TRUE crazies. During the Reagan administration we ended up with a HUGE homeless population as psychiatric facilities, then UNFUNDED, dumped their patients on the street. Time to pick them back up. Treat them. Seclude them. Stop "mainstreaming" them. How about SPECIAL checks for the mentally ill? Perhaps when people are diagnosed with serious mental disorders the POLICE be required to do a home "safety check" to make sure that they have no access to guns? We need INTELLIGENT discussion on the subject. Instead what do we have??? People Like Bob Costas and Piers Morgan that COME to the discussion with a preconceived notion and use NEWTOWN to put forward an agenda they had YEARS before it occurred. Not to say again what millions have said but... Guns REALY are not the problem. Its CRAZIES with guns that are the problem.Stop policing GUNS and start POLICING crazies! Make sense?

Something like The Mental Health Act?You can be 'sectioned' for
a pre-determined period of time, and be assessed and treated
whether you like it or not if you fit the criteria of 'being a
danger to yourself and/or others';if you're no better at the
end the process begins again, two doctors required to sign
you in(have to concur),and the police uninvolved–
        they're already there:seems to work pretty well,mainly
exercised for the right reasons, though people still slip
through the cracks though I guess the burning question is
how many would slip WITHOUT it?

'Gavin Cooke' – You make some very good points. The only thing that upsets me is that someone in the VA has already been abusing this approach. Someone in the VA is now sending letters to verterans saying that it has been determined that the veteran is having 'problems' and therefore may not be able to manage his own affairs, so he cannot own a gun. These letters do not cite their authority for violation of the Second Amendment or what the determination is based on. We may have to be careful how people abused a good course of action. They could claim Obama was sick.

Things lit up and I belched a number of times, I heard a clicking in my nose which sounded like two beads clicking together. I felt objects in my body. It felt like things were going off in my body. My insides feel sore at times. The objects appear to have been motorized/ moved by remote control or computer program. Like they were on a targeted path to hit my body.

Am happy to share this testimony about this great man called Dr Iwajowa. I am Sandra from California , my husband had an affair with another lady for almost 10 years now and it was the worse thing that ever happened to our marriage. I was forced to take a good hard look at MY behavior in the marriage and I came to realize that I was partly to blame for his affair. I had become emotionally unavailable to him and when something good or bad happened in my life, I called my friends instead of my husband. I had stopped allowing him to love me and to support me and he felt as if I no longer needed him. As a musician on the road with his band, it became to much temptation for him when a girl he met on road became interested in him and was more than available for him emotionally and physically. Once I really started to examine my behavior, I realized that I had as much work to do as he did. When going through all theses problem i came across Dr Iwajowa then i explained things to him. after explanation to him, he told me what to do by bringing back my husband so i decided to follow the rules which he gave to me. Now, My husband cut all tires with his other woman and became committed to working on our marriage to save it. Today, we have a beautiful son, another on the way in a couple weeks, we own our home, and have a fuller, happier life than we ever imagined. After i came across the testimony made by Julie about how this man of spirit brought back her ex husband for more than ten years in marriage. so my if you are in such pain and you don't no what to do you can contact this great man for help i promise you all he will help you the way he helped me so via Email IWAJOWATELLERSPELL@YAHOO.COM or call him +2347030410643

So wait... it's somehow evil to demand that any new laws be EFFECTIVE??? Sorry, but if a new proposal woudn't have prevented Sandy Hook, or at least reduced the damage, then why even consider it? Why trot out failed old schemes that were also ineffective? And first and foremost, how do you craft your legislation so that it will impact violent criminals and the dangerously mentally ill WITHOUT handicapping the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families, which they DO between 700,000 and 2.5 million times per year? THIS is the gold standard. This is why the proposed bills went down in flames and will continue to do so unless properly written.

Both Piers and Bob expressed no problem with the 2nd Amendment..., yet they question who would need an AR15 and a 10 round (or more) clip.
They miss the point of the 2nd Amendment. It is to support a citizen Army :
    MILITIA : Noun
A military force of civilians to supplement a regular army in an emergency.

Hence the need for fully Automatic weapons.
It amazes me when time and time again people forget that the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with home intruders ( where a 6 round revolver would suffice) – it has to do with a citizen Army. With battlefield capabilities.

It's clear that Costas doesn't know what he's talking about on guns...None of the gun control proposals would have prevented the horrific Sandy Hook shootings or any of the others shootings...and even the spew about high capacity magazines is nothing but speculative BS ..as the Aurora Colorado shooting proved ,when Holmes AR jammed right from the start and he quickly continued on with his carnage with the other weapons he had, namely a shotgun and two handguns And if there is another school shooting it's because there wasn't trained security in place period.

Mr. Costas, I would like to make a few points based on the segment with Piers Morgan. First of all, I would like everyone to understand that in the United States of America that the right to bear arms is a basic right. Driving however is a privelege and not a right. Background checks to purchase firearms are only there to make it more difficult to the law abiding citizen. The people who want to purchase a firearm to cause physical harm will find a way to get that weapon whether or not they pass a background check. If that person still can't find a way to purchase a firearm, they literally can "print" one with a 3D printer or find the schematics for many versions of an explosive on the internet. If the person that wishes to cause harm to people can not find or do any of those things, they need just grab a knife from their kitchen. If they do grab a knife from their kitchen, there is no reloading, only a fatigue of their arms.
The point that I'm trying to make is that if someone truly wants to harm others, they will find a way. For those that do not want to harm others but only want to protect home AND country (also hunt for food or game), it only makes it more difficult. By making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to purchase a firearm, you harm several facets of this great country we call the good ole USA. You lessen the number of citizens with firearms to protect this country. You hurt the economy from the reduction of manufacturing and sales of firearms. You also increase the cost from the government/insurance companies when someone takes a loved one away. If even one of the teaches or administrators from any of the completely horrific massacres in this country has seen carried a weapon on them, then this discussion would be a moot point. I could guarantee that if someone at any one of these senseless shootings was carrying a weapon, then they would have stepped up and done anything/everything to either stop or reduce the loss of life from this. Have faith in humanity and realize that we will try to stand up and fight for what's right... but only if we have the tools available to us.

YOU'RE dragging up Empire again:Magna Carta,English,KJB,sense of history.

No,it's Dunblane, actually, and I lost a child, and its reprised by Sandy Hook;a British laddie died who looked a bit like my boy who I hope to see on the other side if there is one.His name was Callum, and he was innocent like the boy in the
picture in his Spidey suit who liked trampolines and chocolate, and never stood a chance.I get vexed the US just wants
to file it away. It's a watershed. My concern is that it happens with you again,as we went left, and you've gone right, and
I take it a month at a time.

It's about the mitigation of murder in all its macabre forms which is all the more pressing now its increasingly happening
to children, and no changes have been made;I know there's Amendments in the US,but it's dead bairns end of the day.

They ALL deserve a chance,at heart NO-ONE recognizes that more than the United States.

But don't expect me to give up everything I believe in for the sake of perverse worldliness.

I would or like to make a correction above. I apologize for the poor grammar. Thank you.

One more item, I promise. Fromt he media reports, the Sandy Hook shooting was done with handguns. The only reason an assault rifle was mentioned was because they found it in his back seat. So the debate on assault rifles because of this terrible tragedy is not accurate. Columbine would have a better time to discuss such a topic.... even though they took the weapons from their parents gun racks and did not purchase them on their own.

There was no face slapping by America. America was slapped in the face by senators bought & paid for by the NRA and gun lobby. Americans supported extending background checks. What are the pro-gun groups so afraid of? It's not about taking away your guns or rights. It's about closing the loopholes in the current law. Also, an assault rifles along with high cap. rounds have no place in civilian hands. Go enlist if you want to play army.

If you trust the government (not just the current government, but all the government we and our children will have in the future) not to abuse the individuals’ info. they get from the background checks and registry, why not give them our medical info. as well to know who among us have mental issues? Congress passed the “National Instant Criminal Background Check System Improvement Act” in response to the Virginia Tech shooting. This law was to provide funding to the states to add mental health records into the FBI’s database. The ACLU, a progressive civil rights organization, threatened suits for privacy violations under the federal HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules if the states comply with this measure. Much as I want to prevent the dangerously mentally-ill from getting their hands on guns, I agree with the ACLU for protecting the individuals’ right to privacy. And the ACLU said a gun bill proposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid mandating background checks could infringe on Americans' civil liberties and privacy rights.

The ACLU has "significant concerns" about the language of the bill, said Chris Calabrese, a privacy lobbyist with the ACLU. He said, when approved sellers use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, they destroy most of the obtained records within 24 hours, and all the records must be destroyed within 90 days. Reid's proposal doesn't have any such requirement for universal background checks when it comes to unlicensed gun sales.
Calabrese warned, “Unfortunately, we have seen in the past that the creation of these types of records leads sometimes to the creation of government databases and collections of personal information on all of us. That’s not an inevitable result, but we have seen that happen in the past, certainly. As we’ve seen with many large government databases, if you build it, they will come.”

The phrase comes from the movie “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Coster. The actual quote is “if you build it, he will come.” However, “if you build it, they will come” is how it is used today. It means that if something is built, someone will come to fulfill its(what is built) purpose. You need to watch the movie to fully grasp the meaning though.

The # 1 Attraction of a Semi-Auto Rifle is Maintenence,,they are very easy to FIELD-STRIP,,,they have to be in order to serve in the Military,,.. a soldier has no time to play State-Of-The-Art Gun Smith Procedure in battle..the gun must be easy to dis-assemble and clean , re-assemble and shoot..in jungles, swamps, mountains,,take-a-licking and keep on ticking firearms. That is the attraction of AR-15 type rifles to the Dana 's of the world,,,women can defend themselves without the old man around and apparently People like Piers Morgan and Bob Costas hate the idea,.. go figure.

Yes, it's about taking away everyone's guns. Except for some reason even gun banners who call politicians "criminals" and bought and paid for, etc, don't mind those same politicians and the government agents they control having all the guns. Not very logical thinking, these gun banners.

The California senate just passed a bunch of new gun restrictions including a complete ban on all semi-auto rifles with a removable magazine. That includes things like the most popular .22 rifle ever made.

And Piers Morgan and Bob Costas are going to cause it by ranting and raving about guns and the killers and giving these murderers the idea that they will become immortalized and live in infamy in the history books and that they will be talked about by Piers Morgan and Bob Costas and their ilk for decades. Way to go Piers and the rest of you for encouraging killing sprees and acting all outraged so that the killers know how much of an impact they will have on society as they commit suiicide and take out as many people as they can. And thanks Piers for allowing the killers to inflict even more damage by causing unnecessary new rules and regulations be imposed on non-violent law abiding citizens. Your a real treasure Piers.

So do feet. In fact, they tend to work better than an AR-15, which has a polymer stock.

I understand that the butt of the rifle was used to attack Wermacht soldiers on the Western front, but you leave out a couple of very important facts:
        1) A person is not a door. What can bring down or kill a person may not do the same to a door.
        2) The rifles being used to perform that maneuver in the field were oak with a steel backing, not hollow polymer. That alone translates to the difference between using a whiffle ball bat and a Louisville Slugger.

You always have these so called experts or well known TV Hosts releasing their opinions for attention and ratings on a program. Firearms or Weapons to those who are trained and experienced with them know that they are not the cause of these incidents. The true issues have been around for many years with society and government, but you make uneducated assumptions to place blame and initiate knee jerk reactions on what is basically a tool. Anyone can cause severe or great bodily harm with a hammer, a pipe, a knife etc, the intent or desire is what fuels the incidents. You dont speak for everyone, so dont charge forward acting like you are the voice for public opinion. Just because the majority of society are sheep, doesnt mean you can control the wolves. The same wolves who volunteer to defend and die for this country, and keep a safe place for the sheep to flourish. By the way, Brit's can worry about there own country. We earned the right to govern ourselves without your input.

        You're a liar, and here's why:
        1) Uzi's and other automatic firearms have been illegal in the United Kingdom since 1947. If Thomas Hamilton used an Uzi, it is proof that gun bans don't work.
        2) Thomas Hamilton was a suspected pedophile with charges of assault laid against him. Additionally, he shown symptoms of mental illness. He still owned 4 legal pistols, which if background checks and registries worked, would not have been able to be used to commit the Dunblane shooting.
        3) The victim list has been published and is public knowledge. Not one 8 year old child named Callum was killed. Not one 8 year old was killed, and no one named Callum was killed.

You are a liar, and you sicken me. You are inventing a dead child to push an agenda for a country that you are not even a citizen of, and in doing so $#!t on the graves of the 17 victims of that massacre.

Would you feel safer if an armed police officer was at the school to protect the kids? Most people like having armed police officers show up when there's trouble, so I assume you do as well. If so, what's the difference between an armed police officer and an armed teacher? Some training.

So how about at least allowing the teachers to take that training if they want to and then have a locked gun in their classroom. At the worst, at least the kids would have a chance against an armed criminal in a "gun-free zone" thanks to their teacher protecting them.

Dr. Gary Kleck, a Florida State University criminologist, released a study in 1993 showing that guns are used in defense of crime 2.5 million times each year, an average of once every 13 seconds. A U.S. Department of Justice Survey released in 1994, “Guns in America,” estimated that 1.5 million defensive gun uses each year.

Studies by Kleck and the Department of Justice conclude that guns are frequently used to protect crime victims. Kleck studied crime rates from Great Britain and the Netherlands — two nations with much stricter gun ownership laws than the U.S. — and concluded that the risk of armed robbery is lower in America because of loose gun laws. The rate of burglaries at occupied homes (“hot” burglaries) in Great Britain and the Netherlands is 45%, compared to a rate of 13% in the U.S. Comparing those rates to the percentage of hot burglaries in which the homeowner is threatened or attacked (30%), Kleck concluded that there would be an additional 450,000 burglaries in the U.S. in which homeowners are threatened or attacked if the rate of hot burglaries in the U.S. was similar to the rate in Great Britain. The lower rate in the U.S. is attributed to widespread gun ownership.

Also, according to the Wright-Rossi survey, 34% of the felons responding from state prisons said that they had been “scared off, shot at, wounded or captured” by a victim armed with a firearm. The same percentage said they worried about being fired upon by armed victims, while 57% said they were more concerned with encountering an armed victim than encountering law enforcement officers.

PoliceOne.com, the leading online resource for law enforcement, released findings from a national survey of police professionals that provide insight into the opinions of American law enforcement regarding gun control policies and the root causes of and potential solutions to gun crime in the United States. “This survey captures the perspective of an audience that has an intimate professional connection to gun policies in our country, yet is rarely heard from as a group in discussions on the issue”

The survey, which was conducted in early March 2013, received 15,000 responses from law enforcement professionals. It found that the overall view of law enforcement is strongly anti-gun legislation and pro-gun rights, with the belief that an armed citizenry is effective in stopping crime. Response percentages varied only slightly when analyzed by rank and department size. Among the results:

    • 86 percent feel the currently proposed legislation would have no effect or a negative effect on improving officer safety

    • Similarly, 92 percent feel that banning semi-automatic firearms, or “assault weapons,” would have no effect or a negative effect on reducing violent crime

    • Demonstrating the opinion that the best way to combat gun crime is through harsher punishment, 91 percent said the use of a firearm while perpetrating a crime should lead to a stiff, mandatory sentence with no plea bargains. Likewise, 59 percent believe increasing punishment severity for unlicensed dealers would reduce crime

    • Respondents were more split on background checks, with 31 percent agreeing that mental health background checks in all gun sales would help reduce mass shootings, while 45 percent disagreed

    • 71 percent support law enforcement leaders who have publicly refused to enforce more restrictive gun laws within their jurisdictions

    • 82 percent believe gun buyback or turn-in programs are ineffective in reducing the level of gun violence

    • 91 percent support the concealed carry of firearms by civilians who have not been convicted of a felony and/or have not been deemed psychologically incapable

    • Likewise, 80 percent feel that legally-armed citizens would likely have reduced the number of casualties in recent mass shooting incidents

    • 38 percent believe the biggest cause of gun violence in the United States is the “decline in parenting and family values”. This was trailed by “overly lax parole and short sentencing standards” at 15 percent and “pop culture influence” (e.g., violent movies and video games) at 14 percent

The full survey results can be viewed at http://www.policeone.com/police-gun-survey

Politics have become a give and take proposition. Costos indirectly calls Republicans extremists because they’re the ones preventing gun legislation; and Republicans call democrats extremists because they won’t budge an inch on abortion, not even 3rd trimester abortions. How about Republicans agree to background checks, provided Democrats agree to ban at least late term abortions? I agree with both of those propositions, how about you?

Did the teacher shielding the children make any difference? Would it not have been better for the teacher to have an active defense plan, rather than hoping that somehow the crazed gunman wouldn't shoot them?

The collapsible stock of an AR-15 is not reinforced. Even if it was a fixed stock, which is also not reinforced, it is hollow polymer, which breaks faster than a booted foot does. That why military units worldwide shoot the lock or hinges of a door, then kick it in (unless they have a portable ram or breaching charge). You're wrong.

Just because the United States was involved later in the war doesn't mean I know nothing of military doctrine. It's unfortunate that you have such a history of grandfathers and mothers dying in those situations. It doesn't mean I have no right to talk about the events. And again, during that time period, both the British service rifle (Lee-Enfield Mk. III) and the German service rifle (Karibiner 98k) had hardwood stocks with steel backing, fully capable of bludgeoning the enemy.

But I did spell Wehrmacht wrong. Many apologies. Should have caught that H.

    Who is the one-in-ten?

Is there another Mom's Box Of Guns?

      A call to arms indeed.

You lost an 8 year old son named Callum to a gunman named Thomas Hamilton wielding an Uzi in Dunblane Elementary School in 1996, despite the fact that the official government statement was that Thomas Hamilton used 4 legally owned handguns to commit the shooting, and the publicly available list of victims does not include any 8 year olds, nor any children named Callum.

I hope you don't sleep well at night. You have invented a dead child to tack on to a legitimate massacre and blame an inanimate object for the actions of a man (who was suspected to be a mentally ill pedophile) and the failure of government (which knew he had the firearms, previous assault charges, and an angry argument with a member of Parliament in months before the event).

Sooo we've got wannabe militiamen reading PDF / Wikipedia Files on child massacres.

Now we're getting somewhere, thanks for posting,go and read
Sandy Hook, and we'll see if you are your usual callous,
academic self.I believe the term is wolf in sheep's clothing,
        and here's me a Shepherd!

Thomas Hamilton used an Uzi which...uh...would explain Parliament
recalled from holiday, and sitting in the Commons at midnight, straight
through the Lords[Emergency Legislation],and signed by the Queen.

        What's signed?

Ban on automatic rifles soon as you like, while you have your finger
up your a$$ when confronted with the same.

I'll let you get back to pi$$ing on Newtown.

        @shepherd:

See, the problem with your statement is the fact that the Uzi is defined as either a submachine gun or a machine pistol. It is a compact select-fire weapon chambered in pistol rounds, which have been illegal in the United Kingdom for over half a century.

So, either Thomas Hamilton used an Uzi, and that information was covered up or suppressed by the government, proving that gun bans don't stop people from accessing them as well as proving that you cannot trust your government in order to push an agenda to ban handguns despite the fact that they were not used (sounds very much like the paranoia you vil!fy), or the official statement is correct, and you are a liar.

As for your "son." Give me a good reason why the official victims list, used to fuel the outcry that severely limited handgun ownership in response to the event with the Firearm Act of 1997, did not include an 8 year old boy named Callum. I assume that there must be a reason. After all, every other victim was listed by full name and age.

Finally, Newtown. A disturbed young man stole his mother's firearms (a felony), murdered her (a felony), and went on a spree killing in an elementary school with an Armalite Rifle Model 15 semi-automatic rifle chambered in .223 (another series of felonies). He then comm!tted suicide with one of the stolen firearms, a handgun. No laws currently in place prevented this event, and no law proposed (not universal background checks, not registries, not magazine lim!tations, not an assault weapons ban) would have prevented it. An active defense plan for the children might have prevented some of their deaths, but no one took that in!t!ative.

The militia has never been superseded by the police. Execution of the law is not and has never been the purpose of the militia; the militia exists to provide the people resistance against oppression, be it foreign or domestic.

You're right, handguns were not banned in the United Kingdom until after the events of Dunblane. But you're saying that an Uzi was used, which, as was previously stated, is a select-fire weapon; thus, it has been illegal in the U.K. for over half a century. Now you're backpedaling. Which was it? What weapon killed your imaginary son?

Heartless. Hah. Blood spared due to the presence of a firearm in lawful hands vastly outweighs blood shed due to them. The brutal calculus of war applies to everyday life as well. We recognize that a population with no inherent defenses is ripe for culling. I would have thought that a Scot, having lived centuries under an English boot, would have appreciated that concept. I suppose submitting is just easier.

You told me goodbye. Yet you return, and bring with you a cowardly lie, inventing a dead child to try to make your post somehow above ridicule. I told you, and now tell you again: walk away, boy. I will eat you otherwise.

This divisive debate over "assault weapons" keeps both sides apart so that we can't even pass the kind of legislation both sides support: universal background checks that include prison time for any government personnel who keep the names of those being checked.

    May 20, 2013 at 7:39 pm | Report abuse | Reply

We could start with something simple like prosecuting the current people who knowingly lie on the background check form when making a straw purchase for someone else. I forget the numbers on it, something like 10s of thousands of people falsify their background check answers every year, and then only 10 or so a year are prosecuted.

You'd think all the people who are for background checks and for keeping guns from straw-purchasing criminals would want to prosecute such people to the fullest extent of the law, (which they already can do!). But, no, for some reason they don't. And people like Eric Holder say they don't prosecute it more because it's a "paper crime" or whatever.

Things like this show that a lot of people who claim they want to ban guns and make more gun laws to save lives and protect children are lying. They refuse to enforce current laws already on the books because all they really care about is banning guns entirely including from law-abiding citizens.

Duplicity. I like your use of that word. It sounds so much more charming and sophisticated than lying. Doesn't change it, but it sure sounds better, right? Like you were somehow trying to bait me into a trap. However, by inventing a dead child to tack on to a very real tragedy that could have been prevented by direct intervention from law enforcement (as they had reasonable cause to believe Hamilton was a danger to himself or others, and were aware he owned firearms), you throw everything you've said into question. What else do you lie about to try to win an argument on emotional grounds?

And yes, I said eat you. Chew you up, digest you, and turn you into the same $#!t your argument is made of. Doesn't matter if you're a Highlander or not. I don't live in fear, as you so obviously do. At the risk of sounding stand-offish, bring it the f*** on. I guarantee, whatever the result, it will not end well for you.

Greg, you foolish boy; I am a citizen of the United States of America, who has a const!tutionally guaranteed right, given by nature, to personally own and use firearms in the defense of myself, my country, and my fellow man against all threats, both foreign and domestic. You are a citizen of the United Kingdom, and should mind your own affairs before trying to interfere with ours.

Your argument consists of lies, emotional rhetoric, and pleas to remember the glory days of Great Britain. None of these things are relevant. Walk away.

Tell me if this is a crazy thought. I think all registered gun holders should have to give up all licensed guns for a period of time during
emotional times in one life. Divorce, loss of loved one's and or if someone in their house is on anti depressants. They are allowed to have
their guns back after a a registered psychologist give the licensed gun owner a OK bill of emotional health.

I don't think any one should have a gun in a home were someone is on anti depressants.
