Mark O'Mara on his client George Zimmerman: "He's gained an enormous amount of weight"

On the heels of a ruling which saw George Zimmerman lose a series of potentially crucial pretrial motions, tonight Piers Morgan spoke live with lawyers working either side of the case centered around the 2012 shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

Representing Zimmerman, attorney Mark O'Mara attempted to explain why his client has undergone such a dramatic change in his physical appearance:

"He's facing a prosecution where they're trying to put him in prison for life for an event that he believes he acted reasonably and in the only way that he could," O'Mara told the "Piers Morgan Live" host. "He is in hiding because he can't go out in public. He's gained an enormous amount of weight, over 120 - 125 pounds - I think, because he's sitting in a house stressed, trying to deal with the moniker that's been put on him that he's the most hated man in America for taking the life of somebody when he really feels that he needed to. Nobody takes the life of another lightly, and neither does George. And it's obviously showing in the stress and the way he handles it with [an] enormous amount of weight gain."

Benjamin Crump meanwhile, the attorney for Trayvon Martin's family, continued his assertion that the upcoming trial will be about more than simply self defense:

"This is a civil rights slash equal justice case, Piers. It is the whole world watching to see if everybody in America can get equal justice," he stated. "The police didn't even do a drug and alcohol analysis on a self-confessed killer of an unarmed kid. They didn't even do a background check. They took his word as the gospel. They didn't knock on doors to see if this was somebody's kid. They just assumed what George Zimmerman's stereotypical belief was, that this was a criminal, 'these a-holes always get away.' That's the objective evidence in this case."

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as O'Mara and Crump address additional aspects of a case that is set to begin in roughly two weeks.

why is CNN still posting pics of the little 10 year old when discussing the Trayvon Martin case?

I suppose you would prefer something more racially profiling? I would prefer the pictures of Zimmerman as a skin head along with all of the racists posts of his on face book.

"I suppose you would prefer something more racially profiling?"

Why are you obsessed with race?

The question remains, why does the media continue to use a picture of a cute 12 year old, when he was, in fact, 17 years old at the time of the incident andl over 6 feet tall. Media manipulation to control the narrative, that's why.

Is it legal to kill a 17 yr. old who is over 6 ft. tall? G Z, made a critical mistake that day, all he saw was skin color, "these a@#holes always get away".

      Agree with you, David.
And no, I won't leave. Should those who opposed slavery and not proud of the fact that it was in the United States have left?

Zimmerman's defense wants more money after squandering close to 400,000 dollars. Judging from all the guilt weight he has packed on, it looks as though he has eaten his defense fund!

GMTA! LOL! I couldn't have said it better! Poor George Porgie loves his puddin' & pie too much for his own good! Hopefully, he will be convicted of Murder 2, as charged, so he will actually pay for his horrible crime – the murder of an innocent young man that he followed in order to start something that he ended up finishing in a way that he can't take back. O'Mara has all the answers, dontcha know .. Mr. Slick Quick Talker who doesn't always think things thru, as was apparent to the Judge the other day in court; was an epic fail for Mr. O'Mara & GZ .... just saying .....

You are right Tom. It iwill be up to the jury. How it is presented is one sided. When someone is painted into a corner, they will lie. They, also, will, eventually learn.

Second-degree murder is ordinarily defined as 1) an intentional killing that is not premeditated or planned, nor committed in a reasonable "heat of passion" or 2) a killing caused by dangerous conduct and the offender's obvious lack of concern for human life. Second-degree murder may best be viewed as the middle ground between first-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter. The facts are he did kill Travon it didn't matter how it happened the end result matters as well as the events leading up to it. Concentrating on Travon's school records and weed use is all a distraction from the fact that George who was on the phone with the 911 operator was told to stand down. The following things do not help George Zimmerman: The 911 call, George Zimmerman's interviews with the media (especially the one with Sean Hannity), lying about his finances, and the worst getting a Judge (thrown off the case for openly criticizing him for lying about his finances). Judges in the past have said less outrageous things that were true and not be thrown off the case. The dude is guilty as hell he has no case and he is getting fat off "donations." If you think he is innocent how would you feel if someone would do this to your child then make the ridiculous claims he had if you can honestly say it wouldn't be a problems you don't deserve to be here. If you are an honest person answer my direct statements and don't try to change the subject or "strawman argument" my statements.

LOL – I know it's not meant to be funny but I love the little bit of hidden sarcasm in your opinion! Here we have Mr. O'Mara talking too much again, without thinking it through. He is a fast talker/thinker & sometimes even a liar! The other day in court he lost bigtime & he deserved every bit of what he got from the judge. Also, George's punishment will NOT be life in prison – OM is making things up again. OM wants us to feel sorry for GZ who is eating his way to a definition of morbidly obese. Regardless, I agree with you in everything you said. And, Georgie Porgie needs to pay for his crime no matter how O'Mara tries to justify things; end of story!

Free GZ! He got a future criminal off the streets. We need more just like him...lets start with most of the criminals commenting on this article!

Joe, how do you know that Martin was a future criminal? Oh that's right all black people are criminals. You might want to look at GZ's past, I am sure you won't because your intent is to be an internet thug and profile behind a screen.

Looking at this interview, Mark O Mara purposely "MISLEAD" the jury, as based on this stand your ground law and the FACTS, the only person who was really defending himself and "Standing His Ground" was Trayvon, Zimmerman is known as a fact to have approached Trayvon, there is no evidence of Trayvon coming toward Zimmerman. Trayvon was pursued and he "Stood his Ground", and from Trayvon "Standing his Ground" he was murdered!!
