Holland Taylor on Ann Richards: “Ann Richards, toward the end of her life, was impatient and angry and pissed off by what was happening in the country”

As part of a special CNN weekend appearance, on Sunday, Emmy award winner Holland Taylor sat down with Piers Morgan to discuss both her on and off-screen relationship with Charlie Sheen, as well as her one-woman Broadway hit “Ann.”

For nearly 10 years Taylor played Sheen’s mother Evelyn Harper on the CBS hit “Two and a Half Men,” and mostly remembers the their time together fondly:

“Charlie Sheen and I are very good friends,” Taylor said. “Except for the time when he was really falling apart for a few weeks there. I never saw him act in any way that was anything but gentlemanly, even princely. I loved him then, and I love him now.”

Taylor hasn't spent much time with Sheen, since becoming involved with “Ann” – the Broadway smash-hit she wrote and stars in. The show portrays the life of charismatic and progressive former Texas governor Ann Richards, a woman Taylor portrays as more than just a “sweet little Texas funny lady.”

Taylor's performance has drawn rave reviews, including from the "New York Times" who called the character “a fiery dynamo, frank, funny and warm." The actor described Richards in greater detail for the British host:

“Ann Richards, toward the end of her life, was impatient and angry and pissed off by what was happening in the country."

With a guest list boasting the likes of Tom Hanks, the Clinton's, Gabby Giffords, and her husband Mark Kelly, "Ann" isn't without it's share of big names. But it's the woman for whom the play is named that has Taylor feeling most humbled: “I feel I'm speaking with great purpose.”

Watch the clip, and listen to the interview, as Taylor describes the ensemble in full and what it was like "speaking for someone else." The show runs through September 1, which would have been Ann Richards' 80th birthday.
