READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
On an evening which saw the jury in the George Zimmerman trial find him not guilty in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, Piers Morgan welcomed Robert Zimmerman Jr. for an exclusive, face to face interview.
The brother of George Zimmerman, Robert Zimmerman Jr. described his sibling's reaction to the verdict:
"He is still processing the reality or notion of being a free man, of having what the judge described as no further business before the court."
As much of the nation, and even the world, debated the result of a trial as polarizing and divisive as any in recent memory, Zimmerman Jr. told the "Piers Morgan Live" host that despite hearing the words 'not guilty' at roughly 10:00 p.m. Saturday night, his brother will be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life:
"There are factions, there are groups, there are people that would want to take the law into their own hands as they perceive it, or be vigilante's in some sense," he told Morgan during the live interview. "They think that justice was not served, they won't respect the verdict no matter how it was reached and they will always present a threat to George and his family."
Watch the rest of the clip of Morgan's exclusive interview with George Zimmerman's brother, and for the next edition of "Piers Morgan Live," watch CNN Monday night at 9.

Self defense law is tough, but many legal experts – prosecutors and defense attorneys – believe Stand Your Ground and similar case law is problematic. It only benefits the party that walks away, regardless of how the altercation started or for what reason.
The benefit of the doubt has cast a long shadow over the tragic death of a teenage boy.
wow!!!!!!!! Pierce got his ass kicked by Robert Zimmerman. I'm sure I could try and impress everyone with grammatical rhetoric but that says about all there is to say
Piers must have his ass kicked as much as he got back to English tabloids and England got talent! CNN deserves a better host. Piers Morgan just brings hatred to TV. He'd be better doing gossips!
PM should be embarrassed
Robert Zimmerman jr COMPLETELY owned PM tonight. His snarky British commentary got trodden over. Good work! Go home PM.
Yes, Robert Zimmerman schooled Piers Morgan. What a blowhard Piers is. He is condescending and rude. And tonight, Robert Zimmerman outmatched and outclassed his rhetoric. Way to go Robert. Piers simply nauseates me. He's gross to watch. Please return him to England.
PM gots his ass kicked so badly...LOL
PM is a bimbo & needs to be replace. When he interview GZ brother he would ask a question but when he did not get the answer he wanted he would turn it around into another question only "hypothical". He comes off obviously "one sided" no matter who he is interviewing. He doesn't listen to responses words....I will never watch him again.
PM needs to go to work for The Inquirer.....as well as others that call themselves journalists. None of them have the guts to speak objectively ,they are afraid...why would they not be....when the " the prosecutor in chief" who lives in the white house takes sides they all run.......I do not watch PM show....but when I heard he got his A's kicked I had to.....about time someone stood up to him, none of them have the cojones to say how blacks are racist....I am Mexican I've experienced their true colors ......the day that white man stops been afraid of the blacks that is when the racial divisions are going to stop....PM GO HOME! watch Geraldo Rivera instead.....he is the only one with the cojones to call it as it is....... oh, has anyone seen the "prosecutor in chief" come out to support his people? Good luck to the rest of us!
It wasn't a debate, it was an interview. It's not Piers' job to score points and play gotcha.
He was trying to elicit the feelings and opinion of Robert Zimmerman AFTER the not guilty verdict. It's not a fencing match.
Piers Morgan has shown himself to be in the same class as Bill O'Rielly. They're both opiniated blowhards. Come on CNN! Hire someone with some objectivity and sensitivity. Robert Zimmerman made mincemeat of him and showed how sophisticated a thoughtful commentary can be.
dr dean wolf: Thank you. I never watch PM because of this issue. I try not to even let my TV spout his bull. Last night I went fishing, when I got home he was on and I was curious about the trial outcome. Could not of picked a better time. Zimmerman's brother handed PM his A_ _ on a platter. Loved it....
It seems there are a handful of Zimmerman supporters who are bashing Piers Morgan. Piers is an excellent journalist- intelligent, compassionate, and brave enough to speak out and ask tough questions. I am sickened by by comments about PM being a "foreigner." We (Americans) were ALL foreigners a few generations ago- immigrants came here and took land from Native Americans, and that's how America began. Hateful, racist, fear- mongering people fail to realize this. I am thankful for people like Piers Morgan. America is a great country, and so is the United Kingdom...there can be more than one great country in existence on the planet. Again, ignorant, narrow- minded, fear- mongering, racist, ethnocentric people putting negative and hateful comments...they're only displaying their stupidity and hatefulness.
To those of you celebrating the way Robert Zimmerman handled himself on PM's show...at first I found myself scratching my head wondering if we watched the same interview, and then I realized you were right. Except he actually went further than that. Not only did display himself to be quite the xenophobe to the British raised talk show host (I assume that is what you infer when you claim he got he a-, kicked), but he made a stunning declaration about an unarmed teenage boy having been "responsible for his own demise" which was a giant kick in the aS,, to every minority kid that dares to walk home in the rain with a hoodie, as well as an impassioned F,,,, to the parents that allow them to do such a thing. Yes, he sure kicked a lot of collective a$$$$ last night. Glad some people out there are happy about it.
I would love to get Mr. Morgan's response to this; however, I have not been able to find a direct link to send him this. The media has been ultra-responsive on race and crime; however, where is the national coverage of this http://topconservativenews.com/2013/07/cobb-county-man-slaughtered-in-random-racially-motivated-attack/ ?
Piers should be ashamed to allow this smug, insensitive brother of G Zimmerman to come on national TV five minutes after the verdict and say such insulting comments about Trayvon... that he didn't know if Trayvon was seeking to grow marijuana or obtain firearms.... these comments should have never been allowed on air, and they are slander...and adding salt to an open wound for the Martin family.
We live in a lawless country. We have many, many (too many) laws on paper, but not in effect. As soon as Florida gave it's residents the "stand your ground" law, it essentially handed everyone a gun with the authority to use it. Pitiful. Rest in Peace, Trayvon Martin. Any one of us could join you at any time thanks to State legislators in Florida. I am heartbroken...what a shame!
I agree Patty. Unfortunately, it's the unwritten laws we must abolish. Anyone, even Martin, should be free to walk about thier own neighborhood without being stalked and subsequently harmed. I wonder if Zimmerman sympathizers would feel the same if it was thier child that never came home. Ignorant people are an unfortunate part of life like death, debt, and taxes. Forgive me. I pressed the abuse button by accident but I agree with you.
Stand Your Ground was not used at all in this case.
Stop hounding an innocent man to push a political agenda.
Zimmerman waived his Stand Your Ground hearing as a defense strategy.
If he failed to convince a judge that he stood his ground, it would be hard for a jury to acquit him when the state went to trial for murder.
Instead, his legal team chose to pursue a self defense claim, which is an easier sell if a judge hasn't ruled whether or not Zimmerman stood his ground. The law is still asinine and should be repealed.
Stand your ground is a bad idea?? Stand your ground means you have the right to protect yourself. Stand your ground means that you don't have to run away. Attackers should have more rights than those being attacked?!?
Stand Your Ground is a bad idea because you can ALREADY claim self defense, which is what Zimmerman did.
Stand Your Ground ups the ante on justifiable/self defense homicide. Zimmerman waived his SYG hearing because had a judge ruled against him, it would have been a tough sell to a jury that he was innocent when the state pressed murder charges.
SYG is overkill if self defense claims can already serve as grounds for acquittal.
In reply to John T:
According to the laws of this country a person is NOT innocent until proven guilty. By law a person has the PRESUMPTION of innocence until proven guilty. There is a difference. And a person is never found INNOCENT. They can be found NOT GUILTY. Just as Casey Anthony was found not guilty. It doesn't mean she is innocent. It means the jury decided the prosecution did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Wake up America! This is a sick nation with greedy people running it.
gz was found not guilty of 2nd degree murder or manslauter, it is obvious that he shot tm. i believe the message from the jury is self defense. to post zm's address and encourage people to go forth just shows how behind this country still is. we are presumed innocent of charges until proven guilty which did not happen here. did we forget that this so called child was six feet plus and 200 plus pounds, made racial slurs, was trying to buy weapons according to evidence witheld by the prosecution from his cell phone and there was evidence in the toxicology that he was smoking pot......... this is an unfortunate incident for gz that he was caught in the crosshairs but what if the shooter had been from the same race? would cnn have even televised the case. would this have received all the media attention it got. i don't think so. we need to find out what is wrong with society not point fingers and create more animosity
Stop stop stop with the old addresses. GZ hasn't resided at RTL since the shooting. He was a renter and behind in his rent. His phone numbers changed then as well, when he was able to buy new phone contracts with his blood money. You're either asking for law enforcement to slide up your nose or you're trolling for GZ, trying to stir up shizazz..
And to the person who said Trayvon was 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, stop spreading false info. He was 5-11 and weighed 158 pounds at his death. Get your facts straight before you post. Facts are not subject to opinion.
Piers, Why don't you ask tough questions like Why do you think Trayvon walked up and punched George in the face? Why don't you ask if Trayvon wanted to make it to the house could he have. You are a whimp when it comes to tough questions? I understand you can only ask certain things or you will be fired like Rick Sanchez it is amazing how you guys sell your self out nightly just for a paycheck. Why don't you report on all the black kids getting killed in Chicago/Or how about the white guy in Atlanta on July 3rd who was beaten the hell and tossed into traffic by 4 black thugs.
Piers Morgan is a joke....used the entire interview to try and validate a repulsive Jentel idiot that only wants a free ride in life. I am sick of you liberal asses slanting the accident as something with malice...get a life...she and your network is a jokethe problem with this country
CNN should hire better writers for questions that Piers can ask. Robert Zimmerman was articulate and made Piers look like an idiot. The whole "gun grabber Piers Morgan" thing is just not working. Personally I think CNN should replace him. Im sick of watching him at this point.
No one is coming for your guns. Stop reciting the same old trope.
I do not own a gun but Pebbles they are coming for our guns and I will continue to repeat the "same old trope" In States like NY, GZ wouldnt of had a gun because many arent allowed to have guns in a concealed way like Fla. allows. The laws Fla may be flawed – it will never be perfect but people are tired and scared of the violent crimes in this Country and want to protect themselves Bottom Line!
I'm sorry, but you're reacting with fear and paranoia, forms of emotion. The NRA blames gun control advocates of being emotional and you're acting no differently. Fear = an emotion. Bottom line.
Your fear of confiscation is unreasonable. Your fear of needing to fend off 10 home invaders with a semi-auto rifle is unreasonable. The probability of confiscation is remote, and so is the probability of home invasion. To be clear, my definition of home invasion is one or more people coming into your home WHILE you are there, regardless of their intent to steal or be violent. If they enter when you are NOT there, it is burglary or breaking/entering, in which case your life was not at risk.
"Your fear of needing to fend off 10 home invaders with a semi-auto rifle is unreasonable." unless you're George Zimmerman to fend off the 10+ rioters that will be coming for him.
That's a non sequitur. The average American is NOT George Zimmerman. There is only one George Zimmerman that has to fear any "rioters", and so far NO riots have broken out other than vandals in Oakland. That's thousands of miles from Florida where Zimmerman resides.
You're also speculating as justification to shoot people, which is highly irresponsible.
FIRE. THIS. CLOWN.
You mean fire Piers Morgan? Morgan just need to go back to his tabloids in England.
Yes, please. Do fire Robert Zimmerman Jr. May his name be forgotten.
I agree. I'm finding Piers to be as offensive as Rush Limbaugh in his never ending efforts to push his own agenda. I'll not watch him again. He's rude and closed minded. From now on I'll be watching MSNBC
If CNN is being equated to a toilet, MSNBC is what can be found in a toilet.
Psss....CNN. Ratings advice: hire Robert Zimmerman, fire Piers Morgan.
I totally agree with you 101%!!! He is Intelligent, Young and Handsome.
Amen Matt, CNN should dump Piers Morgan and replace with Robert Zimmerman. The Robert Zimmerman interview was by far the best I've seen all year. Robert did not take any crap from Piers and kept steering Piers from the racism issue (which there was none) and stayed on track as to the verdict.
The interview with Rachel Jeantel today was a joke. I was amazed at how her able to speak improved from two weeks ago. To me her appearance in court was a sham.
George was innocent until proven guilty (by our judicial system), the jury found him not guilty, therefore not guilty and innocent are synonymous for those having a hard time understanding this concept.
Is Piers actually working for the NRA, or is the NRA getting him to do all this for free?
Yet you keep watching him? I can't comment on Piers because I don't watch him enough to know him or his style. I can say that Robert Zimmerman did not fool me with his polished looks and seemingly intelligent input about the trail. It is incredible how so many take the Zimmerman's acounts of events as the holy gospel. Robert Zimmerman was not at the scene. All he can add is a character witness for his brother. It was disturbing to see George smile and chuckle during some phases of the trail as if he was sure he had no worries. And he and his wife hid funds? No big deal? There was no drug/alcohol screen that fateful night? No big deal? The coroner did not follow prodical and perform the examination on the deceased body in reasonable time? No big deal? I could go on. Now Zimmerman ended a life and got NO PRISON time. Michael Vick took a dog's life and got TWO YEARS.
I admire George Zimmerman's brother for so eloquently sticking up to Piers Morgan and his bias , bullying ways. I typically try not to watch him and after watching tonight I was reminded to never watch him again.
I think we can agree that pierce is one sided..nuff said!..gz brother rocked this foreigners ass!!
I wish I could be more articulate....but Piers is an ass...Robert Zimmermon put Piers in his place, which is where he should be. Agreed Tina...Piers is a bully, not an objective reporter....even though he took larry kings spot...he is so far from him...Piers is an unfortunate.
Because Piers asks tough questions? Because he challenges someone? Because he rightly has a problem with the epidemic of gun violence in this country?
Get your priorities straight. A man walks free and another is 6 feet under, and you're not the least bit concerned with how this might be prevented in the future?
Mister Peebles, when did you stop beating your wife? Who was the first black man you called the N word? How are those for tough questions? You like those kinds of questions, huh? They're questions that presume an answer. Those are the kinds of questions Piers asks. They're not "tough" questions. They're leading, manipulative, biased, and bullying questions. They're not designed to get at the truth. They're designed to patronize and they're designed to grovel at the feet of the liberal ignoramus class.
I think the death of an unarmed teenager is a problem, especially if the guy that shot him walks. If he is innocent by legal standards, which is what I accept as part of American society, we seriously need to reexamine the law.
Piers Morgan is well within his rights to ask any question he wants. There are a significant number of people in this country scratching their heads after this verdict. Your personal gripes with his style do not preclude his choice of interview style. Most intelligent people would agree this was a tough case either way, so it is worthy of debate.
On how this might be prevented in the future. Good question. Let me think......ok, I have an idea; Don't sucker-punch someone in the face and try to bash their brains out on the sidewalk? What do you think? It's just crazy enough to work!
Robert Zimmerman Jr articulate? Seriously? Do you realize the incredible stupidity of his glib words? "There are people who would like to take the law into their own hands." Yes, his brother is one such person.
Exactly. His BROTHER was a freaking vigilante. For him to state that others would target his brother extralegally is about the greatest irony possible.
You are so naïve Jessica! That is all I can say...
That's all you can say... because you can't explain what I mean? I'm naive about black people? Is that what you mean? Please explain if you're going to call me names. Otherwise your opinion means absolutely nothing.
Jessica, obviously my opinion does mean something to you as you did, after all, reply! I do not think that ‘naïve’ is name calling but just a matter of fact! I certainly don’t think that you are naïve about black people! Perhaps you are just indifferent when it comes to white people. I am certainly not comparing black and white as I come from a Country that is united with all races namely South Africa and Nelson Mandela is my hero. ‘Nuff’ said!
I apologize if I hurt your feelings.
It just gets better and better. Being lectured to by a Boer who spells her name "Cyndi" about race relations and naivety/intelligence is ridiculous. You still haven't answered–I'm naive because you've had bad experiences in your native country? Or you have preconceptions because of your experiences? I am a white woman sympathetic to the plight of a 17 year old who was tracked because of his race. That is NOT naive.
Zimmerman was following Travon because It was part of Zimmerman's commitment to the neighborhood watch. Should Zimmerman said, I see something unusual, I think I should go check out the other end of the neighborhood. Travon would be alive if he would have respond by saying, hey I live around here and I am glad to see you working hard to keep the neighborhood safe. Instead Travon CHOSE to break Zimmerman's nose and bashed his head against concrete. Travon is dead because of what Travon did.
Zimmerman was clearly told by the authorities NOT to follow him, and he ignored them. That is the quintessence of vigilantism. Trayvon used his OWN right to defend himself: he was bothering no one, Zimmerman started it. I don't get how people like you can honor Zimmerman's right to self defense (with a gun) but not Trayvon's (with his hands). It sounds like you favor Zimmerman for some reason; I wonder what it is.
Sure does get better Jessica, and once again it is of my opinion that you have ‘assumed’ that I was born in South Africa! You are so wrong! I might have lived there for a while and do after all know the difference between naivety/intelligence! You obviously do not know the meaning of a “Boer” as it simply means ‘farmer’ and I have never had that occupation. (Boer –is the Dutch and Afrikaans word for farmer) – also you seem to have proved how naïve you actually are by the spelling of the name Cyndi which most people know is short for Cynthia. I am also White (Caucasian) – I do sympathize with the Marin family. What I was originally referring to was your quote saying-
“His BROTHER was a freaking vigilante. For him to state that others would target his brother extralegal is about the greatest irony possible”
Isn’t this actually taking place as we speak? (People are demonstrating and trying to take the law into their own hands this is what I would call an “extralegal situation” (where your remedies to right the wrong are not governed by law) but perhaps I am wrong. Please note that I do not want to continue this useless conversation.
Cyndi: "you have ‘assumed’ that I was born in South Africa".
Maybe because that is the impression you gave. You said you "come from...South Africa". I don't know about you, but here when we say we come from someplace, that place is our native land. I have lived in Atlanta and Cleveland, but I come from Buffalo. I don't come from Atlantal or Cleveland.
Nonetheless, you made the point that coming from South Africa seemed to be important to you. What difference does it make whether you were born there or not. Your logic is disjointed to say the least.
Spot on. As notafan and Jessica point out, it's completely ironic that he's pointing the finger at imagined vigilantes when his brother was just that.
Thank you geoffermann for pointing this out, I do understand that my grammar has caused confusion. I should have said I have ‘lived’ in South Africa. It is not that important to me as I have lived in many places. For what it is worth, English is not my mother tongue.
Boer is also a common synonym for Afrikaaner, those who worst perpetuated apartheid. You know that, don't be naive! In any case, I apologize if I assumed incorrectly. The irony in his brother's words was what was at issue and it is quite obvious that there is no naivety in pointing that out.
I'm a boer in the real sense. The word Boer is simply a translation into English from the word Farmer. I have a farm and I am therefore a "boer" in Afrikaans (language of the Afrikaner). Nothing offensive about the word at all. That we ARE being killed off systematically, now THAT's a fact and it's not by old white guys and the deaths are violent in the extreme. Torture is run of the mill and unfortunately we have to live behind iron bars within and without our homes – as for ancestry, it's a muddle.
Get rid of Morgnone, send him packing back to the island. Ross. South Africa.
He and nancy grace should both be replaced! Both are idiots!
Piers Morgan belongs with Roland Martin–in the CNN shameful anchor graveyard.
Rick Sanchez too , they dumped that blow hard ...what a know it all. We're is the list now Rick? LoL
Piers Morgan should be replaced by Robert Zimmerman Jr.
Please don't replace Piers. As a CCW holding NRA member, IMO, he is the perfect spokesperson for the gun grabbers. Couldn't be less effective.
Wow! That's calling it like it is......Isn't that just what his brother did, by killing an unarmed child for no reason. Smh
That "child" was violent and nearly killed a man using his fist and concrete. I would have used my gun to defend myself.
Do you recall seeing a picture of Zman's head injuries? his brain was swollen, a very dangerous thing to have. it kills people!!! I know that because I am a trauma care specialist.
If Trayvon felt threaten he had every right to defend himself but didn't Zimmerman a right to take a LIFE!
Moron. Killing an unarmed childs for no reason? Mo-ron
Charles so Zimmerman should of just lied there and let Trayvon finish him off? I will tell you something I'm originally from the north and thankfully left there many years ago. I now see just how brain washed and trained people like you are. I also see what sitting ducks you are too. So let the criminals have the guns and the law abiding citizens be defenseless. THANK GOD I LEFT THERE. I'm not brainwashed.
I initially watched Piers because I simply enjoyed his English accent. But he falls so very short.... Larry, please come back!
GZ was accused of profiling. Isn't the expectation of violence by the media, or surprise there is no violence, a type of profiling as well?
I'm watching Piers' rerun of the interview with Robert Zimmerman. I'm confident, Piers needs to learn objectivity, and general common sense that comes with being human, Piers only has his own agenda. He's such an ego maniac, all he cares about is his word. He in my mind is an unfortunate. What a little boy he is...
I usually enjoy watching Pierce Morgan but it appears to me that Pierce failed to do this homework for this interview. Robert spoke very well and rebutted his personal questions. You can clearly see that Pierce attempted to get controversial but he repeatedly got shot down.
OH!! your so right! Abel!! I enjoy Piers, usually and agree with much of his views, although I think he is a hypocrite cause he supports Murdoch, but on this one, Zimmerman Jr. was right on !!! I was impressed!!
Piers is getting slaughtered by Zimmerman.
How did this uneducated buffoon get a show?
I love the reruns watching Robert Zimmermon just smoke Piers...common...gotta love it...Piers is matched...and, I think, Piers even stutters....love it...
RZ was fantastic!
He should consider becoming a lawyer. what is his background in terms of education or profession? Does anyone know?
I found this interview discusting – Piers was so out to lunch he sould have stade home
You should have stade in school
Give the pour guy a brake!
So this is what it's like to be "invited" to appear on Piers' show? How rude you were tonight Piers. You should be ashamed. What ever happened to being the unbiased host? Robert talked circles around you, was much more articulate than you were, behaved in a calm adult manner (unlike yourself), and handled himself extremely well given what he's been through, whether you agree with him or not. Either your mum didn't teach you your manners, or you just plainly didn't listen!!!!!!! I believe I will be watching Anderson and Erin and going to bed!
Pierce Morgan is a ass! Zimmerman's brother put him in place....where did CNN get this guy??? Pierce was SO totally biased....what happened to objective Journalism? CNN should be embarrased! I was embarrased for you! Zimmeran's brother was so eloquent... Pierce needs to go! CNN totally disappointed be tonight...
I love watching Piers lose an argument hahahah .....getting his ass handed to him in his own show. LOL
Pierce Morgan is such a loser. George's brother stomped on him tonight in this interview. It was even better than the night he got stomped on by the king of conspiracy Jessy Ventura. Its great how they go to commercial break when Morgan is getting his butt kicked. Morgan is a piece of crap with a crap show on a crap news network.
Piers should get a mic in his ear because he looked pretty bad in this interview.
I will never watch Piers Morgan on CNN again. He made no sense, and was a disgrace to your program.
Congratulations to the Zimmerman family. I am so thankful that justice had prevailed. Robert is an excellent representative of his brother, an inspiration. He didn't take one bit of this dregg interviewer's crap.
Piers is a jerk as usual. He was clearly pushing his own opinion by asking loaded questions. It was lousy journalism. Robert Zimmerman held his cool and answered the tough questions very well. I miss Larry King.
Anyone know where I can find the entire interview? The link I found only has the interview until 10:42pm.
I dont think they will release the rest of it cus it was getting to bad for poor Piers
Robert is well spoken and quick with a smart comeback – take Pierce's job! I and millions would watch and respect you!
Piers Morgan is a very disrespectful host. It's becoming unbearble to watch his show. He should go back to tabloids in England. CNN watchers deserve much better!
Before someone carries a gun – think about whether we are really helping society, helping a neighbor or killing them.
Did anyone think Angela Corey's giant smile was out of place?
Good news! Zimmerman's book should be coming out any day! He will have enough to buy lots more guns! Maybe even live in an all white neighborhood far enough away from 7-11 and anyone buying tea and skittles.
Are you sure that is all he went out to buy. Hell, he talked all the time about buying weed and a gun. Oh yeah, maybe he could have been casing places in the neighborhood as well. His school did find a burglary tool and a bag of jewelry on Trayvon. Everybody is trying to portray Trayvon as some sweet little kid. Read the transcript of his text messages a week before the crime and you might get a better picture of what type of kid he was. Fact is, if Trayvon started the altercation, which it seems he did, Zimmerman had every right to shoot if he thought his life was in danger. So please, quit with the "skittles". It is getting old.
I don't watch this show at all, but I heard that Zimmerman was kicking his butt verbally and tuned in. Where can I watch it again?
Susan you might try Hulu. It was a thing of beauty. Piers wasn't prepared to match wits with someone who actually had their wits about them.
Zimmerman did make Piers look like a buffoon, but they won"t post the part of the interview where Morgan got schooled. lmao
The interview was cut short because when it aired, Robert Zimmerman reported that evidence from Trayvon's phone was not put into discovery and was withheld by the Martin family lawyers and the prosecution, showing that Trayvon was seen on it smoking pot, growing pot, had a gun, and jewelry on his bed, and fighting. So much for Skittles.
I'd be very curious to hear more about this.
There were also very sordid details of GZ's past that were excluded. No one is perfect here, TM or GZ... the question is was the homicide justifiable.
Oh really, what might those be? I think Trayvon glorified violence and the "thug life". He thought he should beat down Zimmerman, because he could. Zimmerman had every right to protect his neighborhood and himself. If GZ wanted to hunt down a black kid, why would he call the police first?
I'm so glad you ask...
No one is perfect! GZ is no exception. And correct me if I'm wrong but you're saying because he was a rebellious teenage thug (like so many are) he deserved to die? Then since GZ assaulted a police officer he should die too huh?
CNN FIRE PIERS MORGAN PLEASE! HE'S JUST VERY DISRESPECTFUL, DEMAGOGUE, BIGOT
Am I the only one that sees the irony in this? Robert Zimmerman is afraid people will take the law into their hands, much like his own low-life brother.
You're not alone. I was verbalizing sentiments similar to what you posted at my TV as the words came out of his mouth.
I like you, dragonsheart. You're one of the few rational people posting.
The jury found that there was reasonable doubt as to whether or not George Zimmerman took "the law into his own hands". George Zimmerman contended that he did not approach Travyon Martin. He argued that Travyon bum-rushed him with a punch to the face and subsequent pummeling of his face with his fists and of his head with the concrete sidewalk. Whether or not you believe that, whether or not that version of events fits nicely into your racist fantasy world, the jury found, after hearing all of the evidence, that there was REASONABLE DOUBT as to whether or not George Zimmerman really did take the law into his own hands. The prosecution, with all of the mighty resources of the state of Florida at its disposal, could not provide enough evidence to convict him of taking the law into his own hands.
So Danielle, is a person who is being beaten and whose head is being hammered into the concrete sidewalk, a "low life" because they are genuinely afraid for their own life? Is that person a "low life" because they are terrified if they don't take drastic action immediately, they may be beaten into unconsciousness and death? A "low life"? Really?
Would a black man defending himself with a firearm from a white man beating him mercilessly be branded a "low life" by you for using his weapon to defend his life?
Agree with Matt and his observations.
Unfortunate this case turned into a Race issue early on before GZ was even charged. Unfortunate so many people made up their opinion, one way or another, before the facts of the case were presented in court and to a jury, based on the race of GZ & TM.
Watched the interview with PM and RZ and felt Robert Zimmerman was articulate, held his own. Last nights interview between PM and RZ was a little too much tabloid and disappointed PM kept bringing up that TM (a "child" stronger and taller then myself) was off on a lark to buy candy. Think this type of tabloid show should not be acceptable on CNN. I watch CNN for non-biaised news reporting and disappointed with CNN & PM last night.
Disappointed that this case turned racial from day one and the media coverage ran with the racial issue to increase ratings.
This still doesn't explain why he got out of the car. He was advised not to leave his car. He took the law into his own hands by stepping out of the car and confronting a person who was on their way home.
George Zimmerman is an idiot. A low life. He makes me ashamed to be Hispanic. His reasoning defies all logic and I hope that he has his day, in this case, outside of jail.
Well it would probably be a good idea if you first understood what the meaning of irony is.
Pierce comes off as a bitter man, who lost a debate to man who spoke eloquently about his brother who fought for his life and his freedom. You have no shame Pierce Morgan! You need to go!
I see a brother trying to defend and protect his brother; unwittingly may have cause a bad situation to get worse base on his on comment. Robert Zimmerman, has just called Trayvon Martin an Assailant who
Simply attack his brother for no reason and if that comment wasn’t bad enough he stated that Young Mr. Martin, Trayvon was a typical drug dealing black youth. “He was a kid trying to procure guns and growing Marijuana/Cannabis.
What I see out of this comment since Robert Zimmerman says he speak for the who family: Shows me they Stereotype certain people, and that they as a family are racist. This is base on the two son response when they see black people and how they perceived them in their mind. That can only tell me how the parents raised there children and what they thought them about other race and culture.
Zimmerman family seem to view certain race very negatively and to always shoot first then ask question later. Problem with that mentality is that; it will be meant with equal force or eye for and eye.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND MAY WE ALL RISE ABOVE ALL ISSUES AND COME TO REALIZE WE ARE ALL BROTHERS AND SISTERS LIVING UNDER THE SAME ROOF, WITH THE SAME PURPOSE.
RUBBISH – There was evidence left out of this case that the defense could not use that might make any normal person think twice... GZ will make a lot of money from suing the State of FLA, CNN, and MSNBC for what they did...
I caught the original interview and now can't find it either. CNN apparently does not want to address the real issues that Robert has brought up about Trayvon's history. I was really shocked by these statements that this was withheld on purpose. If true, and I assume it is true, it is a really sad commentary on the players involved in this case. Just speak the truth.
Annette I believe that the following is the truth – Trayvon did not live in that neighborhood nor did his mother or his dad. Mr. Zimmerman was a homeowner and you can view recent property transfer records and see how property values have diminished, most likely due to the crime that Mr. Zimmerman and other homeowners were trying to eradicate. Trayvon's mother and father were divorced and Trayvon was living in Miami with his mother. He was recently suspended from school for having drugs in his possession as well as break in tools and he was kicked out of his mother's home and put on a bus 200 miles to Sanford. Trayvon's dad was remarried but he was "staying" in the home of another lady in the gated subdivision where Mr. Zimmerman owned a home so Trayvon did not live in that home and had only been a guest there for a few days so he was not walking HOME. His dad's girlfriend was aware of the crime spree in the neighborhood and should have warned him of wandering in and out at night and normally gated subdivisions are not public streets. In fact, the girlfriend and dad were out that night and he didn't even know that his son had died until a couple of days later. All of a sudden, they are grieving (millionaire) parents whose dad left him at age 5 and the mother had kicked him out the week before, according to his text messages. He had drugs in his system and in FL if you are under 18 you need a parent's consent to get a tattoo and he had 2 so which parent approved those? The judge wouldn't allow the messages but he talked about all of the fights he had been in as well as looking for a gun to buy. Where does the blame lie? Not with the non-emergency person who had no authority to order anyone to do anything but what about the 2 parents who should be arrested for neglecting this so called "child". Why weren't they with him that night instead of one being 200 miles away and the other married but being out on the town with his girlfriend? They were quick to to file suit against the homeowners ass, even though they didn't even own a home there. Shame on them!. It is not illegal to carry a licensed gun.
Hear, hear, Well said. You can be sure there will not be a civil trial. All of these facts and more, would then come out ,to the embarrassment of the supporters of TM.
It appears that you believe Trayvon's personal and family history are relevant. So was George aware of Trayvon's history prior to following him? Or are you implying that George profiled him? If Trayvon had been a model student living with both parents, would that have made a difference? Would Trayvon then be justified for fighting George? How many of us would not fight to defend ourselves if we "perceived" a personal threat? Don't you believe that George had the right to shoot Trayvon because he perceived his life was in danger? Remember to perceive a threat, no act of violence (not even a scratch) is required by Florida law. Although I do NOT believe George intended to shoot anyone that night, I doubt he would have followed Trayvon if he had not been carrying a gun. For anyone to blame Trayvon for this tragedy and turn George into the "victim" (as some are doing on this forum) is absolutely obscene. Both made poor choices that night, starting and ending with George. Having said all of that, I agree that the prosecution could not prove their case. I wish no harm or ill will to George or his family. But can everyone please stop trashing Trayvon? Allowing his parents to heal without trashing their son is the decent thing to do.
To NJ Mom – No I do not believe Trayvon’s personal and family history is relevant but the truth will be told whether we like it or not! The media will make sure of this. I also do not put blame on the family for any of this and believe me my intention was not to trash Trayvon’s name in any way and I agree with you that we should allow the Martin family time to heal after this tragedy. I would like to apologize if I offended you! I feel that most people are feeling the pain of the loss of Trayvon and I did not mean to place my own judgment on the Martin family whatsoever

GOOD JOB DEFENSE ! ! ! ! George Zimmerman Not Guilty. I am happy to see the justice system works. His brother represented the family very well. Wait until people that don't agree with this verdict find themselves in the same situation. I'm tired of hearing that "Not Guilty" does not mean "Innocent". Because it means that an innocent person was arrested treated like a criminal and should never have been arrested in the first place. Before the trial I believed the media but I watched all of the court testimony. I am sorry that I made a decision without knowing the facts. Now I know the facts. George is and always has been innocent!
Good job on your interview with Robert Zimmerman. You asked the tough questions. The facts were there to prosecute George Zimmerman. It just depended upon who the jurors believed. Why were they inclined to believe Mr. Zimmerman when it was proven over and over again that he lied. Why did they chose to see anything good in Mr. Zimmerman when in his interview he indicated he had no remorse and that he would not do anything differently. No remorse for killing a child? That alone indicates he was deranged. The verdict sends the message that the lives of Blacks in general are not valued. You can shoot them, expel them from school, throw them in jail for no crime, take their children away and nothing adverse will happen to you. Our young Black men are not safe. We always knew it but this just perpetuates the message that business continues as normal. Unless you are Black raising a Black male in America, your comments mean nothing because you just don't get it and you never will.
NO... the facts were not there to convict GZ as most legal analysts have been saying for over a week now !! Good job Georges brother..PM isnt a voice for justice he is a voice for conflict and de-viding.
Most of you need to stop the BS. You simply don't like to hear reality/truth/fact. It's all good if someone is not speaking out against what you believe. Piers has his opinion just like any of you. Whenever someone speaks out about injustice, common sense, or what's clearly right or wrong, that's when you want them hushed, fired, hung, or deported. It's funny when some say justice was served in Zimmermans not guilty verdict, but don't want Piers and others to have their freedom to speak. And actually I feel Piers was holding back on him, Robert Zimmerman clearly came to the interview to be combative and to get some things off his chest. When Piers asked him what if it were his brother who had gotten killed by Treavon, all that "the jury has spoken and the justice system works" nearly went out of the window until he was able to think of a rebuttal. . Good job Piers and to any other host who is a voice to the masses for right, common sense, and justice & equality.
Carlos, the problem with Piers is not his opinion or political perspective. However, as far as I know, his show is on CNN, an ostensibly neutral network. It's not on Fox or MSNBC, in which case we'd all know what we were getting ourselves into: a biased partisan operative acting as a propaganda mouthpiece for his master's political worldview. As such, I think that many of us expect Piers to offer a balanced and unprejudiced platform for interviews that should be open and seeking the truth. But that's not what we get with Piers. Instead, we get a blathering ill-informed, and highly prejudiced boor; a prattling British Rush Limbaugh, an unglued English Chris Matthews. That's the problem with Piers Morgan.
I thought the guy was real idiot. Several weeks ago he was busy attempting to draw similarities between Martin and two black youths accused of murder in GA. The father and defense conceded those statements were racist. And his comments on black on black crime; comparing the government's inability to bring we would be black suspects to trial as somehow exhibiting biases merely evinced his own racial bias. The prosecution lost because it did not prosecute the case as zealously as it defended its decision to prosecute. But the racial divide was telling and disgusting. Nobody can retrieve a firearm on there backside with another seated atop them. And with the exception of the one defense witness, who admitted as much, nobody can tell the voice on the audio without having heard both zimmerman snd martin's voice. And the persistent claims that cased couldn't be brought because there was no eyewitness was bogus. If memory serves me correct there were no alleged witnesses in the OJ case, in the Drew Peterson case, etc.
While we get distracted by this unfortunate incident, and fight with each other, and let our emotions run high, the major problems in the USA are being ignored, Wake up folks, there are no plans to improve education or get people jobs! We are in a downward spiral in the USA, and we have no leadership. We just have endless wars, endless wars, wasting money for 20 years now! This one case is unfortunate, but we are all fiddling around while the USA and many other countries slowly die. And the riots and civil wars of Turkey, Egypt, Syria, etc., will soon in the USA, because we have no leadership that is working to prevent this from happening.
what do you mean by our country not having a leadership? Aren't there those who believe OBAMA is a god given leader?
HLN has been very pathetic in there lack of bias reporting more so than CNN....Dont you agree??
Horrified ....CNN is still re broadcasting the shaming interview! Word of mouth spreads......shame on u,,,,,,done with CNN.......Pierce needs to go
I thought mr. Zimmerman was cool , calm , collective
Intelligent ....pierce your starting to get annoying I know you have American citizen ship, ( I think ) but you don't think American, your British.., I think...grew up with kings & queens....
You badgered mr. Zimmerman , & you looked foolish.....very disrespectful...he wasn't on trial....
The one thing that upsets with Piers is he takes a side prior to the story. What if Travon had respect for elders Would this had happened? 17 year oldstoday respect no-one and society is more fearful of them than they are of society. Can you please address this angle on American society that may have prevented a tragic situation
I guess I'm not the only one who thought the interview was a disgrace. I was very impressed with the way Robert Z handled himself. They should give Morgan's job to him...
This guy is sickening. I can't wait until he disappears. For the intellectual geniuses that are having a bromance with Rob Boy, here's his mug shot from his DUI a few years ago.
Nice ad hominem attack.
What does RZ's DUI have to do with price of tea in China? More specifically, does the question of whether or not RZ was guilty of DUI a few years ago impact the material facts of his brother's case? Does the fact that you were pulled over speeding at some point in your past impact whether or not it is right or wrong that you believe RZ's DUI arrest somehow changes the veracity or logical consistency of RZ's statements tonight on PM's show?
How about throwing out another red herring? Maybe the next one will stick.
Matt, you're attack on me for posting the facts and your self righteous nonsense leads me to believe you have a dog in this fight i.e. you are a Zimmerman.
You'll fade into the nothingness you are. Soon, I hoe.
Matt, your attack on me for posting the facts and your self righteous nonsense leads me to believe you have a dog in this fight i.e. you are a Zimmerman.
Zimmerman's brother was wrong to say Trayvon only had the right to go home when it was his brother that kept him from ever getting home. I doubt people have been threatening George and his family.
Were you there that night? Is that what happened? Because that's not what the jury determined. The jury determined, in fact, that there was reasonable doubt as to what you claim happened actually happened the way you framed it.
And, fyi, George Zimmerman has been threatened. A headline in the June 28 edition of The Washington Times exclaimed, "Twitter Explodes With George Zimmerman Death Threats". A June 8, 2012 story on the Fox News site explained, "Orlando man given George Zimmerman's old cellphone number bombarded with death threats". So, yes you can doubt whether or not George Zimmerman has been threatened but the plain truth is he HAS been threatened.
Matt, the bottom line is 6 people decided the verdict. Yes that's our justice system and what makes our country great. However that does not make some of us free. Its okay though Matt because some of us loose touch with reality and common sense when it's not our child or loved one who was innocently walking to the store minding his own business expecting to go back home and live the rest of his life only to be killed by someone "profiling" him to be something he was not. If you can not see the wrong in this matter but want to stand behind "the law" which was clearly flawed in this situation, then it is people like you that I will forever have a problem with.
Is Piers Morgan really as stupid as he is trying to sound? Bringing up skittles and unarmed? Is he flaming us?
Ha. The great Morgan out reasoned and out talked by Zimmerman's little brother. I love it.
There is no doubt that RZ outspoke PM regarding the verdit of his brother, GZ. He was articulate and certainly demonstrated his intellect when responding to PM's biased questions which were designed to manipulate the public's minds. GZ is not guilty and, yes, innocent of the charges. The individuals that are not innocent are the biased, one-sided, one-minded media. It is not GZ's actions that are inciting potential riots and forcing the race card. It is the irresponsible media. Countless reporters made very preducial statements after the verdict. They are the ones not allowing the races to come together and heal. Their barrage of racial undertones only deepen the divide. Even having the President of the United States stand on a platform and state that TM would be his son, adds fuel to the fire and further divides our races and our country. If the justice department decides to weigh in on this not guilty verdict in an attempt to further GZ's demise, it will be a travesty. I'm actually waiting for our illustrious President's thoughts. Will he further fuel this racial tension, or, will he support our judicial system and the not guilty verdict? Unlike some of you, I do believe that GZ is not guilty of a crime and he IS innocent of the charges. GZ now deserves peace in his life.
He by all means is NOT innocent.... there will be a time when he will be in the same exact pain that trayvon martin was in but worse... but before that he will spend the next weeks months or "possibly" years having flashbacks or nightmares... he best have looked into trayvons eyes after he pulled that trigger... if not that makes him more of a coward... he doesnt need life in prison his life will be like prison... an outcast no one will want anything to do with him. It appears he is already police material. He passed the first step, killing someone and getting away with it... in the legal side of things... but just wait in the name of the father son and holy spirit let the lord strike down upon thee and damned them... unos amigos amenos. Let the countdown begin....
Very strong and bitter words, to say the least! Be careful what you wish on somebody as God is the avenger and not you! I actually feel pity for you as in my opinion I feel that most people (black and white) are feeling the pain of the loss of Trayvon but do not wish to place our own judgment on the Zimmerman family.
Your comments should be 'reported as abuse' – It is disgraceful how you use the Lord's name to curse someone you don't even know. Are you actually a Christian? Lest you forget 'yea who is without sin let him cast the fist stone'! You could be a bit more respectful in future by at least using capitol letters when quoting the trinity. You should be ashamed of yourself.
It is impossible to stand your ground if you are laying on it. And Stand Your Gound was never an issue at the trial.
Wait, so most of the people on this board are saying that GZ killed TM in self defense. Can someone please define the new definition of self defense to me please? GZ followed TM, called 911, and got out of his car to approach TM AFTER the dispatcher advised him not to pursue and stop following him...and you are saying TM had no right to defend himself?? Where were TM's rights? So are you all saying that I have no right to walk down the street at night unarmed and I deserved to be killed if I defend myself if someone has been following me???
T Edwards, one of the scariest things in the world is a person with no common sense or heart. We are Trayvon Martin, we are in danger, our kids, our loved ones.
am very sad and disappointed. I am concerned about Trayvon's family.
Marissa Alexander get 20 years for warning shot scare off her husband when she felt he was threatening her and zimmerman gets off for killing shooting Trayvon martin welcome to florida. This particular case am convinced that corruption and power permeate American society. Zimmerman will fall again since the evidence that he is a criminal and has a disturbed mind and his daddy won't be able to protect him next time ...
unbelievable and by that I mean believable.
Who calls the police just prior to committing 2nd degree murder? Someone who is known by the police and whose father is a retired judge would be confident that there would no consequence. And if it wasn't for the outrage by the public, he wouldn't be on trial. He had a dad who could tell him how to get away with stand your ground.
He lied about his finances and the existence of a second passport there is no reason to believe anything else hey say.
Drake, you really need to state the facts in their entirety and not as sound bites taken out of context. The second passport was a cancelled passport. Once you replace a passport, the old one becomes invalid. When it is scanned, it will register as being invalid. A lot of good that would do for anyone attempting to use one, which is why it was a non-issue for the judge. Stop reading the press with their "ah...ha" "gotcha" sound bites. Makes you appear less than intelligent in your ability to assess everything you read or hear which is exactly what the media likes. The more ignorant you are and the more reactive you are to their captions and nonsense, the more valuable you are to them. Let them know you can think for yourself and don't need them to do your thinking for you.
I understand that PM has to make the contrary argument as every good Journalist should but tonight we witnessed Robert Zimmerman,Jr out match Piers on every question. His cool professorial debating style was factual, sincere and direct in short, RZ owned the interview. This guy would make a great news anchor somewhere, he is just that entertaining.
I'm not impressed by Zimmerman's interview. He wasn't at the scene of the crime. And he took it upon himself to deminish the leader of the NAACP to "self appointed". It's okay to salute heros but make no mistake, the Zimmermans are not. I wonder if you would praise them if Martin was your child.
Let's be real...Zimmerman's injuries could not have been that damn bad because his ass definitely did not have x-rays taken of his "broken" nose, did not need much medical attention, and he most definitely did not have a major concussion (or a concussion at all according to records) from having his head "bashed into concrete" numerous times. Honestly if he was that badly beat up, he wouldn't have told officers that he had "work and class" the morning after the incident occured. And did you see him during the walk through with officers the next day? He looked fine physically, and his memory seemed to be in tact.
On a different note, I believe that Zimmerman needs to be psychologically evaluated. If you ask me, his obsessive behavior and paranoia may reflect traits of OCPD (Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, a lot different fro OCD (do the research)). It seemed like if anything ever seemed out of place, he would call the police. 47 times to be exact!! For example, he called because a neighbor had their garage open in the evening. On another occasion, he called because there was a car parked in the area that he didn't recognize. Damn! No one can get anything past his nosey ass!! You can't even have company over without him sending an officer out to verify anyone's recognition of a vehicle.
In all the case is sad, but in all honesty, the prosecution was not effective and they couldn't tie loose ends to say the least.I wonder how much different the case would have been if Zimmerman did take the stand, and was allowed to be cross-examined. From previous interviews he did put his foot in his mouth quite a bit, so the defense was smart in advising him not to get up there. And just to clear this up once again: An acquittal or not guilty verdict does NOT indicate innocence (so Robert Z jr. Was incorrect with his statements). The jury just couldn't prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt thanks to our "lovely" system.
George Zimmerman Civil Rights Case Logical Next Step To Seek Justice For Trayvon
the family’s lawyer has already said that they will pursue a civil case against Zimmerman. Civil cases are weighed by the jury based on the preponderance of evidence and not beyond the shadow of the doubt — which explains why they can be more successful than criminal prosecutions. A notorious case would be O.J. Simpson who was acquitted of murder charges in criminal court but ordered to pay $33.5 million in civil court.
When an armed man can hunt down an unarmed teenager while on the telephone with a 911 dispatcher, kill the teen, and then walk away free, I think it’s fair to assume that there’s a serious problem with justice in the jurisdiction where the event took place.
Yea, that's true, but a lot more information can be entered into evidence about Trayvon. Be careful what you wish for.
Why is no one talking about Cordell Jude?
The system was 'Shagged', Knock, Knock'd Up, and a mis-carriage crawled out!!, Pierse.
I used to watch CNN 4-6 hours a day and ceased watching because of the biased personal commentary from Piers and Soledad. I want facts. Who, what, where and when. Opinions from media elites doesn't mean sh-t to me. I thought CNN was a journalistic organization unlike MSNBC and FOX, but sadly they are as bad or worse now.
Now I get my news from Google news where I can Siphon though the obviously biased material.
When CNN removes Piers and Soledad I will return to watching.
You can't get out of your vehicle to follow someone with a gun, and when they defend themselves, cry self defense. Zimmerman should have been charged with murder, and his ignorant brother bashing Trayvon on Piers was offensive.
robert zimmerman is such a liar he looks like he dont even know what to say hes getting all twisted up and cant even answer the damn questions what a looser
Morgan got it handed to him during this interview.... Rightfully so. This gay boy, for the first time turned to the FOX network.
that was not self defense he approaches trayvon what kid teen person do you know wont protect them self if a strange man walked up to them in the dark. Justice has not prevailed it just failed. God sees all so good luck when him getting into those heavenly gates. They say its not about race and never was then it was said trayvon was profiled. RACIAL PROFILING DUUUH!!! rediculous
I hope trayvon comes back to haunt you every time you close your eyes
how can you not regret a child that you killed zimmerman???? why didnt you get on the stand?? CAUSE YOUR FAT ASS HAS SOMEHTING TO HIDE DUUUH the judge and the jurry was blind as bats. some mothers they are.. If it happens to thri kid they would be in same shoes beggin jusy to be fair big jask asses
Dear Moron, he didn't need to take the stand because everything he had to say had already been recorded by the police when he volunteered the information. I doubt your dead racist degenerate Skittles thug would have done that.
Robert Zimmerman Jr is a brilliant and articulate speaker who seemed to be very comfortable in telling the truth. I love that he is able to show different points of view as evidenced by when asked about the term stand your ground, he informed us that there are two more accurate and official names for it, one is a code number and one is some other words other than stand your ground! I love that he can say that it was a tragedy that TM died, but that it was justifiable, which I agree with. It's sad, but if I was in the same situation as GZ, I would have fought for my life too!
CNN need to hire Robert Zimmerman Jr to interview PM
Here are the facts taken from this very complex case:
Regretably, Travon Martin (TM) was the aggressor by virtue of the fact he was the one who beat GZ to the ground. Defence counsel was able to prove GZ was the one crying for help and not the boy with the iced tea and skittles.
Stand your ground means what it says. Given the fact that TM was on top, pounding on GZ, it's clear the jury found that
stand your ground was justified. If anyone disagrees with these facts than you will never understand how cases are tried. This was a fair trial in that both sets of counsel had a fair opportunity to present their case. In my view, once it was established the the one crying for help was GZ, it was all over.
For those who argue that TM had a right to stand his ground by pummelling GZ to the ground as he was being stalked you should seriously consider the definition of stalking. Pursuing someone does not merit deadly force. Just call 911 and go on about your way.
This was not a stand your ground case...it was a self-defense case. The criteria within each of these is a tad different. Originally, Zimmerman and his attorneys were crying "stand your ground," but had to retrace that notion because the actions taken did not fit the standard. Zimmerman was not in his own home or car when the incident occurred.
jon paul please explain how zimmerman follwed trayvon but was not the aggresor ...??? please explain how he got out of his truck but was standing his ground or defending himself.. and trayvon started the fight by walking down the block ??? .. and most importantly... HOW COME TRAYVON WASNT CONSIDERED TO BE STANDING HIS GROUND ? OR DEFENDING HIMSELF .. Because of course any black man walking in street is a criminal and in the act of a crime right ?? but of course as u say this is the case you probably think your not a racist
How do you know the course of events were told truthfully. Unless you were there, you don't know Martin initiated the fight. It's incredible how so many take Zimmerman's word as the gospel. Martin didn't get to tell his side. The cop wannabe should have simply stayed in his car like the dispatcher told him to or leave Martin alone all together. Now a teen is deceased and the other party will never have peace of mind.
A note to CNN. Get your act together. It's like saying Pierce Morgan, who is known to provoke others, has a guest on his show stand up and bash his face to the ground, while PM pulls a gun and kills him. Who would you be rooting for?
The guest who acted like a criminal or PM who merely felt his cries for help were not provoking the assistance of your staff fast enough. Surely, you would take the position that stand your ground was justified. Wouldn't you!?
Unlike others, I watch your show because I like certain aspects of it, but clearly your ratings will ultimately take a hit.
PM's disdain for Americans rights to bear arms will catch up to you!
So Piers, if that armed response people you hve employed should get into an altercation with a scaly looking person and should shoot him, it would be on your behalf, right? here in south africa we HAVE to rely on armed response, since the police is so corrupt and slow. They are our first port of call in times of criminal activity. But, you know, while you have armed guards protecting you and yours, you really have NO room to talk about any firearm issues. You can't see this can you? Why did the fight start in any case in the Zimmerman/Trayvon biz? In South Africa, unfortunately many of the very cruel farm murders are perpetrated by youths. You can go and have a look on the internet – there are sites which show the level of violence, but do so with trepidation – it's horrific. If you don't want to protect your own with firearms, then don't get others to do it for you. Are you one of those people who think the world is actually becoming a better place? Well as I see it, the US does not have far to go to become a South Africa.
Well said! I come from South Africa and am now living in the USA – I absolutely agree with you. I would also like to add that Piers should know better as history proves that when the British colonized different Countries, they in fact were more racial than any other Country at the time – the British were the ones who introduced ‘apartheid’ in South Africa (whilst under British rule) and look at India during the time of Mahatma Gandhi how the British slaughtered the Indian people during a peaceful rally. There are many more examples than I can even remember. Wake up Piers!
You're 100% right Cyndi – Americans have no room to talk, they systematically (FROM the Brits they used to be) culled off the native indians and so did they too in Australia with the aboriginees and made sure the few that were left were given a lot of alcohol and be stuck at Alice Springs or thereabouts. They all in great pretence have these strange native festives with great aplomb but in South Africa no-one was allowed to go that far thank God – and that's because the Brits played a small part initially, but apartheid is just a word for segregaton and the americans got rid of that only in the sixties – I may be wrong? But in the end the Brits always manage to have other nations look bad after they'd finished the job off. How they managed to be the heroes in South Africa beats me. But then hey, it's the press machines and that's a mighty powerful evil in the world – for both good and evil but still they swing the way the money crumbles. Cheers
Exactly Magarietha! I could add so much more to this but I would like to point out that during the Mandela Trial (Rivonia) the South African Judiciary system was under British Law and the Advocates dealing with this at the time we known as the Queen’s Council and that is the reason why all records of the trial was filed in London at the time. Who should take the blame for this? Talk about segregation – was it not the British who gave the WHITE 2nd World War Veterans a farm and the BLACK Veterans received a Raleigh Bicycle… Enough said and cheers
Riann, I stand corrected. Self defence would have been a more appropriate term than stand your ground, albeit an argument could be made that GZ was within the four corners of his complex and thus his home, unlike TM.
Dear people of the United States. I respectfully have to say that you bring this misfortune on yourself by arming regular people. It is terrible that a 17 year old boy died because of this. Although it is clear that George was beaten up and it has been proven that he feared great bodily harm, therefore allowing self-defence, arming folks allows for these dramas to occur over and over again. Disarm your people and everyone will be much safer.
Most people here are not armed. Just the crazy ones.
You get a Gold Moron Star today. Intelligent people carry guns because of the crazies like yourself and the dead little racist Skittles thug.
I rest my case.
GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE; PEOPLE WITH THERE TWISTED POINT OF VIEW, AND MISINTERPRETATION OF ONES ACTION KILL PEOPLE.
Zimmerman was on various prescription drugs with known, violent side effects while acting as the neighborhood watch captain and on the night Martin died.It does further explain why he refused medical care that night though.”” this another reason the gun laws need some changing because people who are on these medication can and will harm others. They also can be so conniving around people that they want to keep on their side, just like men who abuse their other half and vice verse. They are okay right up to the minute they have harmed the innocent partner. Just like all the mass murders we have witness, some of these people didn't show signs of any mental issues but were.”
Remember, this is the same jury pool that let that baby murder Casey Anthony off
ex-fiancee, Veronica Zuazo. Zimmerman attacked her while the two were driving to a counseling session
Zimmerman followed a man in his car until the police arrived. Daniel Osmun, the other driver, told police that Zimmerman was tailgating and that he spit his gum out the window "out of frustration.
George Zimmerman cousin’s molestation
zimmerman work as security He was fired for being too aggressive with patrons. He picked up and threw a women. It was pure rage. She twisted her ankle.
My heart goes out to the Martin family. And of course to the next family who suffers this kind of loss at Zimmerman's hands.
And now Zimmerman gets his gun and concealed carry license back. Wonder if he'll use the same gun with at notch on it when he kills his next unarmed black kid.
Maybe Zimmerman should put notches in his gun, for the lives that will not be taken by criminals.Zimmerman did not pull his gun out after having his nose broke. It was only after his head was being bashed against concrete did Zimmerman finally pull out his gun. If you get pulled over by a police officer for any reason and the police officer is walking toward your car, get out of your car and began walking toward the police officer and try to get with in reaching distance of the officer and see if the officer does not warn you to stop or get back in your car. If you continue toward the officer, see if he does not pull his gun. It was not the color of Travon's skin that was beating Zimmerman. It was Travon that was beating Zimmerman.
Just because you drank the Zimmerman Kool aid doesn't mean the rest of us have to swallow.
Has anyone considered that Trayvon's actions, while not an absolute excuse for death, partly contributed to his own demise? Did he have to pound Zimmerman's head into concrete? And consider this, if Zimmerman had not fired the gun, Trayvon Martin would likely be in prison right now for assault and battery. Nobody would care less.
to the poster named chris... so a armed white male followed a teenage black male after being told not to ... and your black so you would know what was running through this teens mind correct ? well in case your not let me help you .. teens get kidnapped, beaten, abused,, so when george jumped out of the car .. trayvon didnt have the right to stand his ground when approached ? hmmmm so white peole can stand their ground and black people must cower ... i get it.. why is it the basic questions are not answered ... did trayvon have the right to stand his ground when approached .. did last i checked stand ya ground without looking up the actuall law means to stay and defend your postion.. if zimmerman was follwing trayvon how was zimmerman standing his ground.. when the black lady who shot in the air in florida who "got 20 years" and didnt shoot anyone.. went to car got gun and went back they said she was agressor.. soooooooo how was it that zimmerman who after being told not to pursue and did so anyway with in his mind set already biased toward the black kid "punks always getting away with this" wasnt the agressor ? explain that
Chris. How convenient that you failed to mention that Zimmerman started the course of events by following a teen who was simply walking home in his OWN NIEGHBORHOOD. The dispatcher told Zimmerman to stay in his car. Hello?
Gee! Concern about people taking the law into their own hands and attacking George Zimmerman! What a notion! As if people should think twice about taking the law into their own hands! If only George Zimmerman had considered that taking the law into your own hands is maybe not such a good idea! "We don't need you to follow him", and George's disappointed "OK"...well now he has had his "fifteen minutes of fame". He certainly earned them. And he deserves whatever he gets in response.
Just observed this fast talking quintessential hypocrite of a brother, Robert Zimmerman. Twisting the facts again on as many airwaves that will have him without asking any real questions, such as, if you speak so eloquently (or deceptively) about the lack of racism in your family, why didn't you testify on behalf of George? Your incredibly RACIST social media post and pic which revealed your true and actual racism, would have shown the court that race really was GZ's motivation in this. His baby talking lawyer could never have lied enough to make that one appear OK. Any one giving this talker air time, please ask the questions. This behind the scenes racism is the very worst of all discrimination. The only thing that brought this dysfunctional family together was hundreds of thousands of dollars the public contributed. The (I have 3 black friends excuse) exhibited with GZ 'tutored 2 black kids,' is bogus. GZ knew nothing about black kids. He stated Trayvon said things like, yo, homie, and when mortally wounded, YOU GOT ME? This is not a black kid's "cool dude" vernacular, but it might be what some guy would think when he is dancing real fast for an alibi. Trayvon, rest peacefully with the angels. George, not a day of peace on earth or in eternity for you.
Yeah yeah yeah, go put on your paper hat and get some fries cooking please. Moron.
Please refer to Robert Zimmerman's racist tweets on youtube. Then put your own paper on. And FYI, you didn't have to sign off your comment as Moron. It was already obvious.
Suza great Job, stated well!
Charles it hurts doesen't it?? Suza guess we are both morons, let me go and cook some fries!
It is terrible that a Hispanic male can be set free for murdering a poor little Afro-American boy who was minding his own business. You would have thought that this Hispanic male would have asked this poor little boy to stop breaking my noise and pushing my head into the concrete and ask him to please get off me before he took out his gun and shot this poor little kid in the heart. What a travesty of justice. Good thing we have civil right leaders that will go after this Hispanic male and seek justice in the Federal courts. It is just immoral and not right that a Hispanic can get away with shooting a poor little Afro-American boy.
Clint, Clint, you twisted little not enough love from mom poor Clint. Don't try to twist this. That is just like most of you people in this country, try to make it seem like one thing, while dodging the main question? Why Did he follow Trayvon? Here is the BIG question: If he had to do it over again would he? GZ said yes he would!! But what if i ask the same question but take away the GUN, would he do it all over again? I believe he would have called the police. and stayed in his house or car until the police arrived!
George, you will get yours very soon.... I will not shed an tears :0)
Zimmerman got out of the car with a gun legally concealed in his waistband and chased trayvon so he would not get away. He was the aggressor
Piers Morgan, On this subject concerning this poor situation. You over stepped your boundaries in your interview with his brother. Have you no respect for anyone!! Bet thing that CNN could do would be to cancel your program and send you back to England so that you could help further with the news wire tapping that you were involved with.
There was a fair trial and all had there say. Let it the dust settle so that all can get on with their lives. You never once mentioned that T. Martins parents settled with a million dollar settlement with the H.O.A.? Why is that? Could it be that you're only looking for what draws ratings? Shame on CNN for that!!
Ask the next host/expert that uses the word " profile " to describe exactly what the modern day description of the word as it relates to Trayvon or other young black men would be. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, NAACP, and others should try to improve the profile of our young black men instead of protesting. Stay in Chicago where there is plenty to do in this regard. CNN always tries to sell the news ( your viewpoint ) rather than tell the news. Thanks,
The riots in the Middle East lost favor with CNN.. They need riots in Oakland to reinforce their message.
Zimmermen had a legal responsibility to to identify himself as a member of the neighborhood watch and was there performing that function and as such he had the legal right to carry a concealed weapon and was indeed carrying. If a plain clothes police officer challenges you, does not identify himself as an officer and the exchange becomes heated to the point of physical violence, who carries the burden of responsibility for whatever may happen next?
I am a neighborhood watch member and we have no requirement to identify ourselves to anyone, no more that a normal citizen has to. It is suggested that we contact the Sheriff if we have a person of interest, but we are to keep eyes on the subject to the point of following the subject for providing this intelligence to law enforcement. I have a CCW (carry concealed weapon) license and I carry my 9mm Glock whenever I am out. If I had a 17 year-old ADULT (not child) pounding on me I would use what ever means to stop the situation. What if George had grabbed a brick while he was being beat and clobbered Trayvon and killed him? Would that be any different? Trayvon would still be dead.
Face it we have crime being caused by everyone out there and it is in your best interest to protect yourself and your loved ones. I will.
Piers Morgan will be forever damned as a result of his interview with Robert Zimmerman.
Morgan's bullying of an ever cerebral and calm Robert Zimmerman, in my opinion, has ruined his own career. As with any bully, he did not know when to quit, did not know when he was outclassed emotionally and intellectually. I would venture to say that Morgan incited more hatred in one hour, than during the 18 months of the trial. What a black eye for CNN. Go home, Morgan, go home.
Have you wondered why this cerebral and calm brother was never called to testify for his brother?
Robert Zimmerman outclasses Morgan in every exchange and his intellect
leaves Piers stammering.
Suza, what exactly would he have been called to testify about? He was not a witness to the incident.
Suza, Zimmerman was found to be not guilty because he acted in self defense. They won their case. Sounds like they didn't need the brother.
Very good canada I agree 110%. Piers' interview with TM's friend Rachel was also a joke. Although her speaking abilities were dramatically improved since the trial (how did that happen), the interview did nothing but promote racism and incite his viewer to continue rioting because of his interview style. Why can't CNN move on to another news item and drop the GZ/TM issue, it's over.
Some of you people need to relax, Piers Morgan is a journalist. He handled himself very professional by his questions. Why are you upset by that? I'm sure if it was the right-wing, idiotic comments and questions coming from Bill O Reilly, you would love that. Sorry unlike many of you, this man has a conscience. The fact that many of you agree with GZ actions, further implement the cruel nature of many along with a mere lack of respect for human life. It further dismays me to hear many of you depict TM past to make him appear as the aggressor, when we all know GZ started the entire pursuit. This case has been about race from the beginning, and the fact that many of you would praise an animal for killing an unarmed, innocent child is sickening.
If these comments are not prescreened, then why can't I post the one I want to?
raceism, drugs, political and business corruption, warmonger of the world, guns everywhere, keep the poor down, deny medical insurance to 50 million people, etc., etc. What a great country and people we americans are! Or think we are!!
I can't believe it that always in Florida never have been guilty of serious crimes, My son to defend his life and did not have any money for a lawyer to defend him being that only defended his life gave him 60 years to life in the state of ca
There is no justice just!
My question? For that followed him my opinion
Showed no remorse is cold now outlived to cold killer on the streets my opinion
so by the white peoples statements on here.. let me understand .. george zimmerman didnt do anything wrong by following the unarmed black teen.. then getting out of the car and approaching him.. while armed.. ok so george was standing his ground because trayvon attacked him ... RIGHT ??? well how come trayvon wasnt standing his ground when follwed and approached ? the 911 operator didnt tell george not to follow.. george didnt say out his mouth these punks always getting away with this.. well actually i am curious what was he doing.. climbing in / out a window ? mugging a old lady ? but again by you white peoples account this was quite fine for george to do every thing he did and it was trayvons fault for this... yea your not a racist, prejudice or just plain crazy... its me the black man who has to keep a camera and cell phone on speed dial for 911 if follwed by white men in a car because clearly i am doing something wrong and deserve to be shot .. i thought this was america where ppl had the right to walk freely anywhere without being impeded
Nothing scares us white folk more than young black males. We identify with the frightened George Zimmerman being attacked by a scary Trayvon. That's why we don't think George Zimmerman did anything wrong.
Know now that never, EVER in ANY real or alternate reality would anyone (male or female) like you legitimately speak for me as 'white folk' (caucasian) people. THIS (and countless) white person holds views totally contrary to the misguided pathetic, ignorant (not stupid; ignorant/misguided/ill-informed, there's a difference, not intended to be insulting) view honestly held by you & sadly too many. Do white folk like me a favor and assign your rhetoric to only yourself & like ilk. NEVER presume to speak for anyone other than yourself. Irrespective of any color, I'm sad for you as a human being. That said, I must give you credit for having the courage to put your true feelings out there. Until people are honest about how they truly feel, no meaningful discussion can take place. I'd much rather deal with a person whose views I oppose, who is willing to be direct about where they stand & have an intelligent debate/exchange of perspectives, than those who mask their bigotry in phoney political correctness.
If someone jumps me and I have a gun and shoot it in self defense, that does not make me evil. That makes me a very scared human being. Sorry, but while crazy confused people are raging, I am going to chant too. HEre it goes!
JUSTICE FOR ALL THE BLACK KIDS THAT ARE MURDERED BY OTHER BLACK PEOPLE! JUSTICE! JUSTICE! JUSTICE! I WILL WEAR MY HOODIE FOR ALL THOSE BLACK KIDS MURDERED BY AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THEIR OWN "HOODS"! JUSTICE! JUSTICE!!!!!
Please. If you were not angry enough for those other murdered kids, don't be putting on a show for this one while using the "race" card. Slavery was abolished A LOOOONG time ago.
isn't George Zimmerman Hispanic?
OUTRAGED? now THIS is an outrage... But the media didn't want to show this. Black teens shoot and kill white baby... Any words for this Mr. Sharpton?, NAACP...ANYBODY?
@ Rose you sound moronic. Until you've walked in a black persons shoes don't make idiotic comments.
@ Magarietha his mother was Peruvian and his father was white.
Sorry, and the father was white? What race is Peruvian? Does she speak spanish?
Peru the country in South America
There is no need for me to walk in anyone's shoes. I am a Jew. My people endured plenty of prejudice and persecution back in the day and you don't see us dragging that resentment and placing it on anyone!
African Americans who still can't understand that this case was not about race, should actually STOP being the moronic ones.
When you see people chanting "Justice for Trayvon" it makes me wonder! Why didn't they chant "Justice!" for victims of other African Americans? That was my point and people get it. Moronic is to demand justice as an excuse to bring back "race issues" that have nothing to do with the case. I have been a teacher for 13 years and I have students from all ethnic backgrounds who still cannot understand to this day why African Americans commit genocide in their own communities and then raise hell when a white person kills one of theirs. What? Are they the only ones with such special privileges? Please... I don't need to walk in their shoes to watch the news and see what is REAL out there. This case was never about race. Get your facts straight.
The irony of Robert Zimmerman Jr. worrying about people taking the law into their own hands... Just wow.
I disagree with the verdict. I am not African American.
Not once in the five, six or seven statements George gave to law enforcement did he ever state that he landed a few punches nor put up his hands to protect himself. Anyone in fear of losing their life would defend themselves with either punching back or blocking shots if they were in fear for their life. George did not say 'boo' about any of that. , He studied the law of stand your ground and did taunt Tray by pursuing him more than once. All George had to do was take a few punches and not protect himself and then would pull out his weapon and claim self defense by showing his bruises. George never once showed in his re-enactment the day after that he either blocked or punched back. REALLY ?I strongly believe that George knew exactly how to game the system by blurting out statements by waiving his Miranda rights, knowing well that this would enhance his credibility.
Justice is not ruled by facts, but on the presentation or mis.. of technical details that lawyers manipulate. They say that Tray was unable to take the stand in his defense, because he was dead. Even if he survived the event, Lawyers would spin theories to dispel both sides.
The biggest failure of any justice system, is to give the defender immunity if they so choose (and they most often 99.9 % choose it) from taking the stand. We question lawyers, ME's, Experts, Police, witnesses, second , third and fourth parties and try to catch them in lies, While the defendant sits there and is protected by LAW from testifying. Taking the fifth should be revisited. Many cases would be cleared up much faster. Then we could catch lawyers that have lied because their profession is to manipulate facts, not always presenting the truth.
Well said Bernard! No one being attacked lies there willingly. GZ NEVER spoke of defending himself. And as a matter of fact, according to the testimony of the physician who examined GZ after the incident at hand, GZ's wounds were superficial and not AT ALL reflective of a person whose head was "pounded into concrete".
So you're saying GZ wasn't attacked and his head wasn't pounded into the concrete. But the evidence shows otherwise so get over it. Perhaps you think that GZ wasn't yet beat bad enough? How long do you think GZ should have waited before defending himself? You may not like it but the thug got what he deserved.
Oh my "Lucretius" is it?! Honestly I shouldn't entertain this absurd comment but just to prove I don't speak opinion I speak fact the medical examiner who testified is Valerie Rao.
And yes that's exactly what she said, the injuries are "insignificant". GZ never mentioned he defended himself in the video ...reenactment...no GROWN man will allow someone to attack him with out defending himself. If every one shot the person they got in a fist fight with there would be alot of dead people in this world. If it were son it wouldn't matter if he was trailer park trash it's still not what he deserved.
If everything would of been exactly the same that night. But Zimmerman was a female on neighborhood watch. Would it have been ok for her to shoot Trayvon after he broke her nose and was on top bashing her head on the sidewalk?
No proof of any nosebreaking. THere's alleged nosebreaking and still no proof of how it happened.
GZ actions in killing Trayvon were on trial; Trayvon was not on trial.
George Zimmerman resides at 1950 RETREAT VIEW CIR SANFORD, FL 32771 (407) 878-6007, (407)435-2400
Where do you live coward?
George Zimmerman resides at 1950 RETREAT VIEW CIR SANFORD, FL 32771 (407) 878-6007, (407)435-2400 go forth in the name of justice
My biggest problem with this and my curiousity grows – why did no one ask GZ why he didn't identify himself – TM stopped and looked right at him and asked "what is your problem, man?" Why didn't GZ just friggin' tell him "I'm the neighborhood watch and was wondering if you live around here?" GZ could have made a different choice but my opinion is that he was too cowardly to tell TM who he was and what his purpose was. By the way, he did answer TM by saying "I don't have a problem". Idiot.
If he realigns himself we will have more innocent dead teens. We don't need that. Damn right people will take the law until their own hands. IG @curtisdoesit
To all of you who said GZ is innocent watch out because you might run up on a George Zimmerman. Today in this society if you are an AA, you get 20 years for shooting a wall, 3 years for shooting a dog, and 3 year for a self-inflicted wound. You can murder an AA boy and walk with a not guilty verdict if you are white. This only happens in America. I believe the NRA, police department, jurors, judge, defense and prosecuting attorneys were all in the bed together on this case. Let's face it AAs there is a double standard in this country for whites and blacks. Take a close look at our President and the struggle he has to endure, which is a very sad case. I hope all families will not have to face their child being murdered. GZ will never be a free man. He committed a murder whether you believe in God or not and the blood of Travon will forever curse him, RZ, and their family. God will slow walk you but eventually you will pay.
Show your child to respect others, that is the problem with your kids, they dont respect anybody... period
"Show your child to respect others, that is the problem with your kids"
I take it "your kids" is a reference to black kids?
Why can't they respect others, like those nice white boys, Adam Lanza, James Holmes, or any of the 14 mass shootings since Newtown?
Truth is a personal perspective.
If the jury was black looking at this incident through the eyes of a black person .... There is no doubt what the verdict would be!
Resolve jury selection to get a semblence of justice!
I already write you the media play dirty, you don't want the truth you want to hang Zimmerman no matter what. Now you are taking what a juror said and put it to Jeantel to make a show of it for money. Do you really think that we buy that you love this country??? Since you come here you want to change us, cus you don't like us. Period. So, make me a favor go back to you cave and leave us along, we don't need anymore people with bias than the ones we already have. ZIMMERMAN IS NOT GUILTY... AND I DONT CARE ABOUT THE LIAS OF JEANTEL...
Oh I feel like vomiting.... on your show with Jeantel.... the case was about the were fight and that is.... Trayvol thought that he can beat to dead Zimmerman and nothing was going to happen to him that is the truth. Why he don't go straight to his home and play stupid??????????????? AHHHHHH
@ Mara Lee, you should check out your words!! first of all, you should never ever claim to be an american patriot because the US is land of all races. You are not an american in the first place, let the red-indianas that were forcefully pushed out from their land say they are the true americans and not you.Secondly, go educate yourself first because there's no accepted scenario in the world where an armed man will shoot another unarmed person on the basis of self-defense.So go back to your cave and educate your stupid a**!!
PLEASE do what I usually feel y'all do a wonderful job of. I am an American with brown skin who is ALWAYS classified as "black" & I strongly disagree wit the general (and largely the only perspective expressed) notion that the Zimmerman verdict, the jurors & Zimmerman supporters are shockingly insensitive to race, justice, and the Martin family. As a 32yr. old American man of color ("African American"), New Orleans native & 7.5 yr. veteran of the USMC, I identify with Zimmerman and strongly support the verdict! Please pull up some credible and honorable men and/or women of color who support the verdict, jury & Zimmerman to share their perspective. We need to balance the strong willed "black" men & esp. women who have expressed their disgust with all pro verdict elements. Thanks for doing what y'all do the way y'all do it!
It was racial from the start, because the comment he made about the hoodie. What made him brave was the weapon he had,if he didn't have the weapon he would have waited for the police. What did he expect when he confronted Trayvon, Anywhere in any neighborhood any teenager or adult would have thought, who is this fool what is he going to do. He should have stayed in his car, in this day and age you can't trust people you don't know. Zimmerman was the aggressor has soon as he stepped out of his car. He murdered a teenager that is never going to begin his life. Why should Zimmerman enjoy his life when he took one. I am Hispanic, Zimmerman is guilty!!
Zimmerman profiled him from the comment he made about the hoodie. As soon as he stepped out of his car he was the aggressor. What did he expect from Trayvon when he confronted him. I would have punched him, because he had a weapon he thought he was the law. If he didn't have the weapon he would have waited for the police. You can't trust people you don't know in this day and age.Zimmerman took a life from a teenager that is never going to start one. Zimmerman knew what he was doing, he took a life so why should he enjoy his. He is guilty!!!
Could you believe that juror B-57,is,already writing a tell all book about the case with her attorney husband. Wow what a pathetic poor excuse of a person to try and capitalize off a dead child's case. This further prove that most if not all had alternative motives from the very being. Such a coward of her and husband to now hide in the dark. We should all boycott Sharlene Martin, the president of The Martin Literary Management publishing company.
Angel01 – Prepare yourself for lots of indignation. B-57 will not be the only one to publish a 'tell-all'. But did you ever think that lots of people WANT to know what took place in the jury room?
@dk, For those that really want to know every single detail that took place in the jury's deliberation room, should just watch the interview. She gave a good enough summary of her perspective. But to know continue by writing a tell all book is just pitiful. Again very ignorant and pathetic of anyone of the jurors to try and capitalize off of Trayvon Martin's death. She did even wait, she announced 2 days after the verdict about her book. In my opinion, her motives out ways her words.
"There are factions, there are groups, there are people that would want to take the law into their own hands as they perceive it, or be vigilante's in some sense." Is Robert Zimmerman that thick that the irony of his statement escapes him? Didn't brother George take the law into his own hands? Wasn't he acting the part of vigilante the night he shot an unarmed teenager to death?
Robert Zimmerman Jr. said Trayvon was "...armed with a sidewalk." When did sidewalks become weapons?
Sidewalks become weapons when they're used to pummel someone's head against. Don't be daft.
Oh really? One to talk about vigilantism. Hypocrite...
All of these "wonderful" comments arguments FOR GZ have me thinking... OK, mabe put YOURSELF (or your cherished loved one- maybe a teenaged daughter or son OR elderly in this situation)- Bottom Line "SIR, WE DON't NEED YOU TO DO THAT" (Which explicitly state exactly what they said and reinforce the fact that the POLICE were on their way) YET can still go out and pursue someone. Huma Nature and basic knowledge- WHO goes out and pursues someone when they are "AFRAID FO THEIR LIVES"??? Welcome to Florida- Where you can get away with EVERYTHING, especially killing children . Thanks a bunch, VIVA LA SOCIOPATH- better pray people like this don't cross paths with YOUR kids(Oh, Yeah can't happen to you since your kids are perfect angels, especially a teen- NOT)... Karmas a "you-know-what". Watch what you say, ignoramus, racists. Hmmm :( Prayers and LOVE to Trayvon Martin, his family, and may this bull NEVER happen again!!!
Wow...George Zimmerman took the law into his own hands...Law enforcement did not even follow procedure...they did not set up a crime scene...they assumed that the Trayvon did not belong to the area and was a criminal...Trayvon's parent sought the legal system to address the miscarriage of justice regarding their son... But Robert Zimmerman is scared that some one will take the law into their own hands? Mind boggling...
Isn't taking the law into his own hands exactly what Zimmerman did?
Robert Zimmerman complaining about vigilantes taking the law into their own hands. Too precious for words.
You cannot make this stuff up. Apparently he lives in an irony free zone.
I think that George Zimmerman's brother has done a very nice job of defending his brother. I appreciated hearing what he had to say and it helped me to understand how hard it must be for George and his family. Trayvon's supporters are many. Even though George was acquitted, it seems like he's been found guilty in the public by so many. I heard what Rachael said in your interview, and she alluded to the idea that in her mind, Trayvon gave his own form of justice to Mr. Zimmerman. After he was being followed, he made a decision to turn around and go up to Mr. Zimmerman and give him "some whoop-ass." That action had an unfortunate consequence that Trayvon didn't expect. I understand what is being said by everyone on Trayvon's side and they have a point, but they aren't talking about that one fact and that's the fact that made the jury find Zimmerman not guilty.
The fact that the state had difficulty proving it's case does not mean that GZ did the 'right thing'. When GZ killed the only other witness who could refute his story, he minimized any chance of him being found guilty. Robert seems to feel that a not guilty verdict translates into "GZ did nothing wrong", which is evident by his statements about GZ having no regrets or feeling bad for killing a 17 yr old kid, on his way home from a candy run @ 7-11. His comments regarding "not being sorry" for something you did if it was right/legal demonstrates the lack of remorse & understanding. After all, according to Robert, black kids are 'risky'. I honestly think he cannot understand why the rest of the world hasn't evolved to the level of righteousness, superiority, intellect & morality his family has. The more he talks, the more you see just how morally bankrupt he & his family is. I'm waiting for him to get so frustrated with everyone who disagrees with, him he stands up & yells, "it was just a black kid, what's the big deal".
I also thought was interesting that he wanted to highlight Trayvon's adolescent tweets, as though they spoke to his character yet, he never mentioned that his brother's ex-fiancé had to get a restraining order against him due to his anger/aggression or the My Space comments about 'Mexican's' or the time his brother was arrested for using violence to resist arrest when he got into a fight with a police officer & had to take an anger management & alcohol awareness class to get the charges dropped. George was an adult when these things occurred, Trayvon was a 17 yr old. Anyone else see the absurd double standard in Robert's comments?
Very well said my neighbor!!
not guilty doesn't mean "innocent". guess many of you have forgotten the ole saying "INNOCENT until proven guilty". Get over it ! we were not jurors who heard every word of prosecution and defense. we did not take part of the jurors private conversations amongst our peers. The jury spoke, stop the race baiting, gun grabbing garbage.
Anyone that has any respect for piers morgan is a complete idiot !
Robert Zimmerman is a right wing, gun rights activist. Who spends most of his days on twitter quoting Rush Limbaugh, and attacking liberals.
It's all just tragic. I'm sure if the jury knew the Zimmerman family, political, background, they'd have been more cautious about cquittal
If you read his twitter feed, it's quite obvious that not only do his family show no remorse for what happened, but they're actually quite proud of the events.
As I said, personally, if I was on the jury and I knew George Zimmerman he was from a family of NRA activists, and (far) right politics, with a huge knowledge of state gun laws, I'd have probably questioned the events more.
By the way – how stupid is he
His brother took the law into his own hands. Confronting an innocent person. And when he realized he couldn't win a fight against a 130 pound schoolboy, he shot him.
If George hadn't tried to be a vigilante, the police would have dealt with Martin – and just let him go, as he'd done nothing wrong.
That's why the police are professionals – as they can handle 130 pound schoolboys. Not get beat up by children
You know Robert, if your family are all (far) right wing, gun activists, who love Rush Limbaugh, and hate liberals, then, keep it to yourself.
I can't think of a worse thing you can do to George Zimmerman, than go on twitter and promote your families right wing politics, and try and build a NRA activist, right wing, media career from the tragedy.
George Zimmerman is already fight claims he's racist. This doesn't help
"There are factions, there are groups, there are people that would want to take the law into their own hands as they perceive it, or be vigilante's in some sense," he told Morgan during the live interview. "
The irony here is beyond belief.
Yes, we know there are "people that would want to take the law into their own hands as they perceive it, or be vigilante's in some sense." It's precisely what GZ did, when he knew the police were on their way.
George Zimmerman has been arrested twice since he was freed. I can't wait to see what happens to him.
Piers Morgan This was a great interview unfortunately I think he is going to continue to make the headlines.I also agree he better carry that gun everywhere he goes cause he is defiantly a marked man. I
hope no one gets hurt in the future.
Piers keep the great interviews coming! great job CNN.
By your logic, an average man, woman, child should be willing to fight with fists if attacked by another man, woman, child. Even though the defender would be unaware of any weapon the attacker has on their person. Your logic is flawed. Most people cannot possibly spend that much time training to physically defend themselves against attack. Thus the great equalizer, the firearm, was developed. You can argue many points about this case, but formulate an educated argument based on reason and logic. Everyone on earth cannot be expected to be "tough" enough to fight it out. You don't want to be shot, don't attack an armed man. And if an armed man is going to assault you, pray you remembered your weapon. When seconds count, police are only minutes away.
You know Dragonheart you were making some sense until you said this "The sad, scarey reality is that pansy *ss people incapable of physical exertion can legally arm themselves with deadly weapons & use them in 'self defense' successfully when the object of their 'fear' is dead & unable to offer their version of the events." That seem pretty assumptive to me doesn't it??
Therefore you, yourself are now guilty of the very same argument that your trying to make and you showed your true colors. And GZ has been consistent in his "version of the events" throughout the last 16 mos. contrary to the trickery and deceit played out by the media who should be completely ashamed of themselves – all in the name of TV ratings only and not about racial injustice for TM. BTW PM is an complete idiot and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the interview with Robert Z if in fact CNN has the balls to show the rest of it Sunday night! It will certainly be the last time I watch PM for sure – what goof!
You are quite correct. I wonder if many who are denouncing the verdict in this case have ever been jurors in a criminal case? I have twice-both felonies. The state has an absolute obligation to proove guilt beyond reasonable doubt thru evidence that the defendant has committed every element of charged crime. Otherwise the defendant presumed innocent to begin with must be acquitted. This has nothing to do with race. And as you say it has nothing to do with declaring that the defendant is a good or wise or prudent person or even if he/she committed the act-it has to do with proof beyond reasonable doubt. To those screeching about this verdict being wrong, I put this question: WERE YOU SCREECHING ABOUT THE VERDICT FREEING O.J.SIMPSON??? The issue is not whether George Zimmerman acted the way he should have-personally I think he didn't-but that is NOT the issue.
Whether you like Piers or not, Robert was incorrect to state that the "Not Guilty" verdict meant the jury found his brother to be innocent. They are not the same thing. He may believe his brother's claim of innocence, but the jury's verdict just means that the jury did not believe that the State proved their case. In no way does it mean that they find GZ innocent. RZ should not assume what the jury was thinking unless they themselves decide to tell us the reasoning for their verdict.
Clearly Joe, your able to understand only up to the point when the reality of the defense laid out by GZ's own lawyers, reflected to the lowest common denominator, coupled with the verdict, is presented in the scenario I described. I merely used less kind language in place of the 'soft' term used by GZ's own trainer. The facts of the case support the scenario I described as a cautionary tale for future reference. That said, only GZ & TM know who confronted whom, what was said & what was done.. It's no small wonder why GZ's been unsuccessful in obtaining a legitimate position in law enforcement considering the FACT that by his own admission his memory is 'bad' and therefore he's unable to remember and/or chooses to act in opposition to standard recommended practices for neighborhood watch, much less legitimate police work. Your preference to dismiss what you recognized as a legitimate points rather than acknowledge incorrect & inappropriate statements by GZ's brother reflect more of what you are about than any colors you want to assign to me. ;)
Derp said it perfect.
If under our system of justice we are 'innocent until proven guilty,' then at what moment was Zimmerman not innocent?

If under our system of justice we are 'innocent until proven guilty,' then at what moment was Zimmerman not innocent?
Frediano, it is my understanding that under our justice system a person is not innocent until proven guilty .They are "presumed" innocent until proven guilty. There is definitely a difference between the two.
Simply research the phrase 'not guilty does or doesn't mean innocent', to put the confusion to rest. Too many well intentioned, good people mistakenly believe that the legalism/legal concept 'presumption of innocence' equals innocence. Look up the word PRESUMED in the dictionary: undertaken without clear justification = presumption. People mistakenly tie a legalism to a factual statement. This issue was futilely hammered home after the Casey Anthony verdict when people made the same misguided assumption, that finding her not guilty meant she was found innocent. People get caught up in the minutiae of individual cases rather than the basics of the law, legal concepts & what they actually mean as opposed to what many prefer to think or or lead believe. Educating jurors in the accurate meaning of the law was much discussed by both sides in this case for good reason. When we know better, we should be responsible to do better. Folks can agree to disagree regarding this verdict based on the information presented at trial. One thing remains evident, too many citizens in a position to be called as jurors clearly need civics lessons to gain a clearer understanding of what commonly tossed around legal terms actually mean. Presumed innocence is not the same as proven innocence. Some jurisdictions have incorporated the verbage 'not proven' in place of 'not guilty' because so many people erroneously equate not guilty with innocence. If you're not educated on a concept, it might be worth getting some working knowledge before you ass u me.
Derp to quote you "You don't want to be shot, don't attack an armed man. And if an armed man is going to assault you, pray you remembered your weapon. When seconds count, police are only minutes away." I agree and I take it one step further people should not have to conceal their weapons, they should be holstered and in plain sight. Problem with this case Martin was 16 at the time of his death and according to Florida Law unable to legally carry a firearm. So there was no need to pray about remembering a weapon, because if Martin had a weapon he would have been guilty of a crime. Robert Zimmerman's comments were insensitive and your comments are flawed by the realities of this case and would only be relevant if you are speaking of two adults both legally able to be yoked with firearms.
The George Zimmerman (GZ) and Trayvon Martin (TM) case is an example of two wrongs don’t make a right. In many respects this incident should have been tried as two separate cases because two separate incidents occurred. In the first incidence, GZ who may have started out with good intentions utterly failed in his volunteer position as Neighborhood Watch. It’s called “Watch” for a reason; it’s not “Neighborhood get-out-of-you-car”. GZ showed poor judgment and in terms of common sense was a completely foolish. He should have never directly followed or confronted TM. If he thought TM was up to no good then call it in and let the police handle it. His second mistake was carrying a gun. Leave the gun at home or at least don’t have it with you during Neighborhood Watch. If you have a gun you are going to use it. In this case GZ would have been better off without the gun. GZ’s actions in this first incident were utterly stupid. Unfortunately you can’t send people to jail for being stupid. In this first incident GZ was the aggressor and TM the unsuspecting victim. Once GZ got back in his car and contact between the men had stopped the first incident was over.
The second incident began 4 minutes later when GZ got out of his car to check the street address. At that time GZ considered the prior matter over TM however did not. When GZ got out of his car he had no idea that he was going to be jumped by TM or that TM was maybe not alone and had buddies lined up to help him teach GZ a lesson. What GZ misunderstood was the kind and number of buttons he had just pushed in TM. In this second incident TM was the aggressor and GZ the unsuspecting victim. What GZ failed to recognize was the “Law of the Jungle” – “Hey you messed with me and now I’m going to let you know it”. TM had the law of the jungle down pat and he instinctively reacted the only way he knew how – violently. Normally things would have been in TM’s favor and he knew it – he had the advantage of surprise, his adrenaline was up, he had marijuana in his bloodstream and he had been “dissed” by GZ. In this case, race is not a factor, TM would have jumped anyone –not because of race but because he had been challenged on his own territory. TM was out to make it clear to GZ that you don’t mess with me and TM meant it in no uncertain terms – TM’s words –“you are going to die (or something to that effect)”. TM’s language, voice and demeanor probably scared the crap out of GZ. At that point GZ perceived that his life was in mortal danger- whether it really was or not to those of us viewing the situation – our views don’t count – it’s what GZ perceived at that moment in time that counts. In other words TM was so good at scaring and letting GZ “have it – pummeling his head into the concrete” that GZ actually feared for his life. Where TM miscalculated was that GZ had a gun. Without the gun TM would still be alive.
In both incidents, number one and number two, both men should have used common sense and cooler heads. Even if someone makes you angry – walk away – don’t try and get even. Had TM just swallowed his pride and walked away (turned the other cheek) he would be alive. Yes, in the first incident GZ showed extremely poor judgment, was the aggressor and in effect “started” the whole chain of events. GZ could have also used other self-defense techniques or even used the gun like a hammer to hit his opponent but unfortunately he didn’t. However once the first incident was over, it was that – OVER. In the second incident, TM was the aggressor and GZ the victim. No matter how wronged TM felt, his inability to exercise self-control and his underestimate of his opponent’s advantage (the gun) resulted in his own death. Clearly two wrongs don’t make a right.
A common misunderstanding of a guilty verdict is that it equates to a declaration of innocence. It most certainly does not. It essentially means "not proven" in that the prosecution has not proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Not guilty doesn't imply innocence any more than "not sad" implies happiness.
The other common misunderstanding here is the phrase "innocent until proven guilty". The actual phrase is "the *presumption* of innocence until proven guilty".
These are subtle but important distinctions in law.
purple drank (lean).
This is a very interesting part of the TRAYVON MARTIN story that is not getting a lot of press. But it was widely reported that the young lad was simply buying "Arizona Ice Tea and Skittles" from the 7-Eleven store.
Turns out that we parents are unaware that there is a drug drink made from Arizona Watermelon drink and Skittles candy and then mixed with OVER THE COUNTER cough medicine (Robitussen and similar brands) that makes a very potent drug.
Not only is there now all sorts of evidence popping up that Trayvon Martin was abusing drugs, but it also is a warning to parents all over America that simple combinations of commonly available goods can be some serious drugs in the hands of our kids.
The drug is called LEAN or PURPLE LEAN or PURPLE DRANK. It is very likely that Trayvon Martin was on his way to make some more LEAN the night he was shot, the coroner's report shows that his liver was damaged in a way that is consistent with the use of LEAN/PURPLE LEAN/PURPLE DRANK. Martin also may have bought a blunt at the convenience store, they empty the tobacco out of the cigar and fill it with marijuana, and he may have smoked it before his encounter with Zimmerman. Marijuana and Purple Lean are a popular combination with rappers and thugs.
Just becaused someone is charged with a crime, does not make them gulity. GZ charged and found by a jury to be not guilty. What is so hard to understand our legal system, a jury, found him innocent of charges.?
Very interesting and good to know. Thanks Dragonsheart.
What is this nonsense about being found not guilty doesn't mean he was innocent? In this country, you are innocent unless proven guilty. As long as he stays within the borders of the United States of America, he is innocent by definition. That's the law. Those who didn't know this or refuse to accept it should be ashamed of themselves.
