READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
As the nation neared the end of a second straight day set upon the backdrop of a government shutdown, on Wednesday evening Piers Morgan asked Jack Welch to share his unique insight and perspective.
Joining "Piers Morgan Live" for a face to face interview, the former Chairman and CEO of General Electric refused to choose a side, instead holding each of America's prominent political parties equally responsible:
"It's terrible. I mean, both sides deserve a spanking for this. The fact that they're not talking and haven't been talking for the last six months, Piers, terrible," said Welch.
Seated across from the "Piers Morgan Live" host, Welch offered a colorful metaphor for the way in which he thinks President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner should have been treating their professional relationship to this point:
"The only way you solve these problems is to schmooze, if you will, when you're not in crisis. You don't want the negotiation to be your first date," described the business executive and author. "You want to have been dating all along as you come to the crisis so you know where each other stands, you know what you can give, and what you can't give."

If the Speaker of the House stated that Obamacare is now the Law of the Land. Why don't the Attorney General along with others arrest and charge the Speaker of the House along with the House GOP Tea Party members with Obstruction of Justice? For those who don't know that Obstruct means to block and Justice means the administration of law.
Sorry I have no respect for Jack Welsh.
His reason for saying it's ok for house to force a shutdown is that Obama "changed it" Obamacare; yeah that's crazy every law and bill gets amended about a billion times. The house crazies can't have a line-item veto on legislation?
You are correct. Laws and bills get amended all the time and ObamaCare needs to be amended again. As Jack Welch said we need to get rid of the medical device tax and give a individual mandate waiver for one year. Individuals could sign up for ObamaCare. Put people that wait another year would not pay a penalty. Getting rid of the medical device tax would keep medical device manufacturers from moving overseas.
I can't believe that CNN would give any air time to Welch. This man may have been the CEO of a company but, on election night of Obama's second term, he ran his mouth about how bad Obama was going to loose.
Tonight I had to listen to him tossing all the blame on Obama for the mess we have now going on. I have news for Welch, his time has went and gone. He sounds like a dotty old man who should be on Fox New to rattle on about his GOP views and not on CNN.
I got so tired of listening to him run his mouth, that I changed the channel.
We are over from England on a trip through California to celebrate our 30 wedding anniversary and feel very let down by the park closures. We were due to visit Yosemite tomorrow for a couple of days and other parks in the coming days. It's very disappointing and we feel let down.....
Pierce, I have watched you ask a question now for days that several others have posed as well; Why isn't the President speaking to the Speaker of the House like President Clinton did in 1994? It is this simple, Newt was in control of his house and John Boehner is not, he can't make a deal or he will lose his caucus. This is clear by how he won't allow an up or down vote in the house, he knows they will have a bipartisan vote and lose. Shame on his lack of courage!
I am an independent and find flaws in most of what I see from both sides, but if you want to enact change you need to get the votes and win the Senate.
Piers, Get out of the USA since you don't like it here – – You crook ! – – No Obama Care "EXCEPTIONS" for anyone – – If it's good enough for me then it's damn good enough for everyone else !!!
Obama will down in history as the poorest most worthless leader we have ever had !
He does not lead in any way !
If he were a Leader we would not be in this mess.
I just lost my full time job and now forced to work less than 30 hrs per week thanks to Obama Care !
If Obama Care is good enough for me then damn it, everyone else should have to join in – – NO EXCEPTIONS for anyone
Piers, you are not covering this topic so everyone can understand both sides of the issue – – go back to where you came from !!!
I can't believe so few radical folks can shut down our government. I'm ashamed of our congress. Please pass a note to the PM of the UK, he I know it's been a while, but we are sorry for all that mess in 1776. Can we come back?
President Obama should let Joe Biden take the lead with congress. He would be able to get both sides working together because he is not afraid to speak to both political leaders. President Obama can stick with running for office and raising money. He can even take credit for the success when Biden gets things done. There could be jobs created and debt reduction and the President can be a hero. He just needs to stand back and let Biden be the leader.
If you want to lower unemployment in America, throw out foreigners like Moran and hire an American. We even have to out source a spot for a liberal idiot?
I am not sure what show/interview it was but Piers said that 1/3 of the US debt is owned by China. This is totally wrong. The basic problem here is the perpetual incorrect (myth creation) information by most US mainstream media. Piers you should be ashamed of yourself. Tell the truth and education people honestly.
If we have to do away with something, let's put the space program on hold or on a skeletal program for about two weeks and see what happens.
Also, on another note, I swear I thought the speaker in one of the houses the other day was going to mention this when he said "and now the rest of the story". Years ago I was listening to Paul Harvey on the radio and he was talking about one of the largest groups of people in the US who do not have private health insurance. Of course he went on and on about it but the answer was doctors. The reason was because they had to pay over $100.000.00 a year(I think it was a year) for malpractice insurance. So they could not afford health insurance. That was almost 20 years ago!
Do you think that is one thing that drives our prices so high, medical equipment (back then). Now computerized medical equipment, more and more advances in science for different medical equipment!!!!!!!!
Maybe now the doctors will be able to afford their health insurance.
Completely concur with what you described. Your explanation was by far the simplest to understand. I say to you, I usually get agitated when folks talk about issues that they clearly have no idea about. You was able to hit the nail right on the head and rolled out everything clearly. I wish, people can take a signal. Will likely be back for additional information. Thanks.
