Richard Quest and the can being kicked down the road

As the 16th day of the partial government shutdown produced a frenzy of action in the nation's capital, on Wednesday night Piers Morgan asked fellow countryman Richard Quest to join him in studio with his trademark brand of energetic financial insight.

Despite a bipartisan effort in the Senate serving to avert a possible default, the host of CNN's "Quest Means Business" suggested that this was simply a band-aid solution, and will not fix the long term issue:

"Doesn't matter which way you look at it, and how you cut this, at the end of the day, this is the most overused phrase at the moment. This is the can that is going to be kicked down the road," said Quest, while displaying an actual can to illustrate his point of repeated continuing resolutions. "Look at when they start kicking this can, and you really start to see the problem."

As the "Piers Morgan Live" hosts notes that the can has surprisingly survived the repeated financial woes of the last several years, Quest points out that "it's just surviving. It's leaking, it's just surviving ... at the end of the day, that's the problem."
