William Shatner on Obamacare: "Ponder the mystery..."

Attention all Trekkies! Coming up tonight at 9, Piers Morgan welcomes actor, author, director and musician William Shatner to his studio for a wide-ranging conversation. The iconic actor, best known for his roles as Captain Kirk on the legendary TV series “Star Trek” and more recently as Denny Crane on “Boston Legal,” is here to promote his latest music project, “Ponder the Mystery.” However, he weighed in on some news topics as well.

“Why have you never become an American citizen,” Morgan asks Shatner, who has lived in the U.S. through the last 11 administrations while maintaining his Canadian citizenship. Shatner joked “all those lines I had to learn ... I had to memorize stuff.”

On a serious note he adds, “I’m sort of proud of the idea that I’m Canadian ... We contribute a lot to the American culture. And we’re part of the American culture, although we’re uniquely Canadian.”

Moving on to Obamacare, Morgan asks Shatner his thoughts about the program. “Ponder the mystery of Obamacare,” encourages Shatner, eluding to the title of his new album. “We need to wait and see ... but if Obama is correct, that the health program lessens the cost of this extraordinary accounting of the medical costs, then we’re home free.”

When Morgan asks Shatner what his alter ego, Capt. Kirk, would do if he were president, Shatner’s answer is unequivocal: “Fire them all and have a new election. Given what the American people in polls are saying, there would be a really rational decision to have elections.”

    Hello Piers Morgan,
    I
II am a great fan of yours because you are one of the few journalists who tells the raw truth without fears. Please read the below comment. Isn't this media worthy? Someone needs to tell the truth behind the "failure" of the federal government's website HealthCare.gov. The American people will love you more for it!

THE ENEMY FROM WITHIN!!! Last night I was doing some research to assist my son who lives in North Carolina by getting him the name of the health insurance exchange website for North Carolina so that he can shop around for better insurance with lower premiums, deductibles and co-pays. In the process I discovered the raw truth as to why the federal government's insurance exchange website HealthCare.gov is overwhelmed and the subscribers are having so many problems trying to enroll. Here are my findings: the governor of North Carolina, in conjunction with 23 other states, has refused to comply with the requirement for states to set-up insurance exchange websites for the residents to be able to shop-around/ purchase insurance, neither have the following 24 states (almost half of the nation). Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. DOES ANYBODY SEE A PATTERN HERE!! Sabotage the system and then complain that the system is broken and doesn't work!!! THE U.S. GOVERNMENT'S WEBSITE HAS TO ENROLL THE RESIDENTS OF THESE 24 STATES WHOSE GOVERNORS REFUSED TO COMPLY WITH THE ACA REQUIREMENTS! Setting-up the insurance exchanges was NOT the responsibility of the federal government!!

Dear Piers – Love you, and love your show. There are an awful lot of people up here in Canada that watches your show, as does our professional well educated family, and a lot of us really like Mayor Rob Ford besides the offensive attacks by the TORONTO STAR. It was so nice to see you politeness and kindness towards him last night on your show. You compared him to a Mayor back in your own town. Rob Ford is a real person, an average hard working guy, and not as a Mayor. He is no fraud, no fake, and he does fight for the people. Don't let people at CNN fall into the trap of abusing him. Such doings really offend a lot of viewers in Canada. When I myself this morning buying a hot chocolate for my daughter at McDonalds, say the media papers all over the table, I told at the table, Rob is a good honest man – support him. People when wild, said we do, we do, and a charming elderly black minister, he stood right and hugged me realizing I myself was a good man, and spoke so frank, standing up for Mayor Rob. Many many people up hear do like him. Michael Siiman. Note I have some inside info on Star paper Robin Doolittle, but I wouldn't say it,
otherwise I'd be just like her and her paper. Many people are getting to really dislike the Toronto Star – AND DO NOT SIDE WITH THEIR BIASED VIEWPOINT, them mad because Rob Ford snubbed them. Piers – continue to be the very wise man that you are. There is something special about you, YOU ARE SO REAL YOURSELF, SPEAK SO FRANK

William Shatner is a funny guy. I am age 55 now, when I was young, I watched his Star Wars show all the time.

Some his commercials are excellent. Piers – you fire him up tonight!!!!!

Also, nice to the e-mail news updates on what is coming.

Prior to you Piers, my family and I thought you got some better big shoes to follow in with Larry King. But you are doing a great job. You come across as a genuine, real person. You speak intelligent and frank. Keep it up.

And don't like the CNN network abuse Toronto Mayor Rob Ford like the "tacky" Toronto Star does. You don't keep pounding a man that is down, and especially not one that supports the average guy and tries to save tax payer's dollars.

Two days ago – in Toronto at MacDonalds – I got a standing ovation from people, and hugs for a 65 year old black minister – all thanking me for supporting Rob Ford with them- and accepting that Rob is a real guy – a pretty straight
shooter. Look at what our Prime Minister says about the Duffy Deal and the $90,000.00 – oh he knew nothing – all around him well knew – but no not him. He is not to be believed, and I think most Canadians don't believe him.

I like Obama, but he has to get back to being closer to the people – not to worry if Obama care is not going yet as planned and has major bumps – rather – he needs to stand up – be frank, honest, ask for people's patient and confidence and give his word he will MAKE IT WORK.

THE BEST WITH YOUR SHOW PIERS – KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, CHEERS MICHAEL SIIMAN FROM TORONTO CANADA
