David Gergen on an Obama comeback: "He still has time to do that"

On the heels of Barack Obama's public apologies regarding the failings of his Affordable Healthcare Act, Friday evening will see Piers Morgan welcome David Gergen, asking the political analyst to share his insights and reactions.

So thrilled to welcome the former presidential adviser to Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton, that the "Piers Morgan Live" host shared his enthusiasm via Twitter:

From his guest's perspective, it will take a lot of work, but under the right circumstances, an Obama comeback is definitely possible:

“He still has time to do that. Ronald Reagan had Iran Contra early in his second term, he came back from that. Bill Clinton had Monica Lewinsky and all of that erupted," says Gergen. "He got impeached in his second term, and he still had great accomplishments and finished high in the polls. Both presidents did.”

Watch the clip for more of Morgan's interview with Gergen, and to hear co-guest Howard Dean's reaction to Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's recent trials and tribulations. Then, for the full edition of "Piers Morgan Live," tune to CNN tonight at 9.

Great show Piers. Your show tonight regarding Obamacare and Obama was on point. You are one of the few who have the guts to tell it like it is and not soft soap the lies. I am more concerned what I should eat for dinner tonight than repealing Obamacare. But the truth of the matter is Obama straight out lied because in order for his plan to work he had to get everybody cancelled from their plans and get those good risks in Obamacare. i understand why he lied. Otherwise his plan would flop under the weight of all the claims from only bad risks signing up. I don't want to get more coverage from him and lose my Doctor and my plan, And pay more money in the long run. I have the answer. For dinner I will take the Spaghetti and meatballs.

Mr.Morgan am not an American and I live in the Caribbean but let me tell you that president Obama is ten times more of a character guy then you. Who give you the right to speak such crap about the president I don’t know. When you took over from Larry King in the beginning you showed as a different Piers but now the real Piers Morgan has arrived, ask yourself if the president was WHITE would you have said those things about him my friend. You have pound the president over and over Piers. Tonight in your program Mr.Weinstein and Robert Redford told you exactly what is going onand they were right, it is some kind of racism and you know that as well. It sure feels that you are also part of these type of attacks Mr.Morgan and your a disappointment to me and millions of Americans my friend. Once again the president did not design the program so get of f of his back. Your standard has dropped real low because a computer program should have never become so important thanks to people like you and CNN. You as an English man should have acted a lot different because you have nothing to loose. Mr.Morgan you continue to just repeat everything that has been said during the whole day by CNN. CNN has become the second FOX NEWS and the whole world has notice that. Mr.Morgan I had really believed in you when you started the program sadly am seeing you could never ever full the shoes of Larry King. Mr.King was never so judgmental. It’s like you don’t have a mind of your own, just repeating everything the other anchors members are saying the whole day. The president legacy will be one of the greatest ever seen Mr.Morgan don’t you worry my friend, God has his back and because he fights for the poor. He does not have two faces like you Mr.Morgan. You do like you understand the need of the minorities in the community but truly you are part of the Republican biggits. Mr.Morgan, God will continue to guide and protect the president and his family. You Mr.Morgan has disappointed many in the community especial the minorities. Obamcare will work no matter what you are CNN do because God never leaves his people down. The Republicans are planning to shutdown the government within 3 weeks and you for one will be surprise. A computer program which the president himself did not design is getting criticize by you and CNN, that’s a joke my friend. President Obama is loved and highly respected all over the world and especially here in the Caribbean, he is ten times a better man then you Mr.Morgan. You should leave the program and go back to England my friend because am sure in the UK they would have taking off the program along time.. Obama has opened up his country for people like yourself and then to be insulted this way, you should be ashamed of your self . Obama has taking the Americans out of a devastating ressesion and allyou could talk about is the harm to his legacy Mr.Morgan, please give me a break. His legacy will be perfect and not even a computer program gone wrong will stop him.. Wait and see what is coming up in a couple of weeks by the Republicans, Boehner already said no to immigration reform and the budget negations are being stalled by them as well. God is on the president side and will continue to protect him from people like you and the whole of CNN. The poor will be helped by Obamacare no matter what you and CNN do.

R u kidding ? The Caribbean is a big nobody. Who cares who you think deserves respect. Piers is correct in many ways. He didn't say President Obama is a bad man... He said he made a Big error in judgement. That's all. Dean is a fool also. Go away with your Cheer Leading.

Very misleading when you speak of an affordable health care plan. Many people do not carry insurance for the fact that they can only afford an insurance with such a high deductible that they decide to take a chance without paying out a monthly fee on something they may or have never used for the year. Perhaps if you really wanted to offer an affordable health care plan you would have offered an insurance plan such as this:
Year one you sign up, $5000.00 deductible, year two, you never used your insurance, deductible goes to $3500.00, you don't use your insurance, year three deductible goes to $1000.00. This means for having good health you are rewarded, your premium could reduce as well for good health. I think you get the gist.
Problem I have seen with offering insurance – such as Medicaid where there is no deductible, people go to the Dr. for EVERY THING, things that would only require a bandaid, but since they feel they have insurance they go to the Dr. for EVERYTHING!!!! IT's FREE. THEY are protected from day one after conception until they turn 18 and now you want to raise that to age 26?? Heck by then they are already on their OWN Medicaid plan for they already have 2+ children.

Mr.Morgan hopefuly you pay good attention to what Mr. Weinstein and Mr.Redford said on your program tonight concerning the president, its racism and you know it. Hopefully you find a way to start to report the way you were doing in the first week you took over from Larry King. The Republicans has CNN doing all their dirty work for them just because of a bad roll out of a computer program. You yourself know how complicated this program is and you also know that it wasn't designed by the president. How stupid could you be to continue to blame the president for this mistake. Am proud that the president continue to protect his employees and millions of bosses could learn from this. Mr.Morgan there are so much of important issues coming up within a couple of weeks and still you find time to continue on Obamacare. The program is going to work because ,millions of lives are depending on it. Sadly you cant even take it upon yourself and in your heart to interview those who are going to benefit from the program. Together with the rest of CNN you guys are showing every day the bad side of the Obamacare, where is the good side my friend. Its a shame what you all are doing. You say your against violence but you yourself continue to instigate hatred against the president. All the shooting incidents from the past few weeks, look and ask your self what kind of people committed those acts Mr.Morgan. By spreading hatred through your program is not right. Obamacare is and will remain for those in need and believe me Mr.Morgan it is going to work in the end because the good always comes out on top.

I usually come here to insult and or argue with you Piers, because you usually insult me with how you see issues that I see differently than you. That said... I feel very bad for President Obama. I am a republican, conservative and like some things the Tea Party represents. But...President Obama is a very nice man and he doesn't deserve scorn. I like the fact he thinks everyone should have healthcare. It's logical. My problem with ACA is it is not the correct solution. Break the insurance coverage problem into smaller more manageable parts.

Which "Party" State will offer the most gets the VOTES??

Another thing... A big reason republicans attack President Obama with such zeal is because so many media people do the same to conservatives. It's over the top. Ed Schultz, Madow, Bill Maher, Sharpton, the MSNBC left wing cheering committee.. That former CNN goon Soledad Obrien. These people say such horrible things we feel compelled to be just as evil and cruel.
And we don't like Beck or Limbaugh. Stop equating all republicans with them. And we don't all agree with everything Fox News says...

Mr.Morgan I did not know but I just saw an interview that Oprah give today in your country Great Britten and she said the same thing Mr.Weinsten and Mr.Redford said tonight in your program. It is part of racism because the Republicans don’t like the president they continue to do anything they can to undermined him even if it means damaging the whole country but you know what is even more sad, CNN is busy contributed to all of this as well. Mr.Morgan, do you know where CNN went wrong, no matter what anyone say, Obama is the president of the United States and even you should show some respect and stop playing politics. He apologized more than once and he should stop doing that now as well, he is only human. You still continue to bash him MR.Morgan and once again it is sad because millions of Americans who needs Obamacare are being lead to believe that after all these years there is no hope for them. Obamcare is going to save lots of lives and it’s a shame for you to undermined that. Start reporting all the good the program has done already for thousand and what it will mean for millions. That the Republicans are only looking to destroy it everyone could see but keeping them honest means reporting the good side as well. So far your journalism has been terrible regarding what Obamacare truly means for poor Americans my friend., because more than 500.000 thousand has already gotten help through Obamcare but that is not important to you, because you have to sound like the rest of your colleagues. Truthfully, are you telling me these people don’t count. Mr.Morgan what you should be reporting is all those states where the Republicans are controlling that are prohibit there poor citizens from signing up. This is an outrage but still you want to talk about the Presidents legacy. The President is going to do just fine because he is loved by millions in the US and around the world. Here in the Caribbean we wish we had such a leader. This man have kept all of as save for the past years and by bringing back the US economy to the top he has helped us here as well.. No matter what you say Our lives here in the Caribbean depends on the Americans for our tourism and when things go well with the US, things go well with us. We are very grateful for the way the president has brought back the US economy and no computer program is going to change that. Obamacare is going to work in the end and all those vulnerable Americans are finally going to get their health care, that is what the news should be about my friend. The Americans have one of the strongest economy at the moment even the Europeans are jealous of that. Ask you self who brougth the country back out of the ruins. The economy will decide the Presidents legacy Mr.Morgan. Look at the Americans 401K and how well the stock market is doing. The country is doing well even dough the Republicans have blocked every single move to help grow the economy even faster. Believe me when I say, imagine if the Republicans wasn’t blocking the Presidents ideas, how much better would the country be. Mr.Morgan start to look for data and fined out what the Republicans are doing to the United States. Since they lost the last election they have done everything in their power to undermind the President even dough that continues to hurt the American public. I strongly believe they really care who gets hurt . Mr.Morgan the president don’t need any help because as I said before God will continue to help and protect the President of the United States simply because he is a good man and his heart is in the right place.

I lost all respect for Piers Morgan tonight when He called our President a liar. Piers can go back to the UK. Do you really believe enemies of President Obama wouldn't sabotage his healthcare plan? And Piers, you are naive about how engrained racism is in much of the US, including (apparently) the fat cats and The Tea Party.

So he told the truth? Please explain further.
Barbara, do you believe skin color allows one to put forward false statements without being responsible for them? Are you that engrained in your affirmative action mindset that you believe Obama not be a politician, but a man of virtue. He lied. He is a liar. He deceived. He is a deceiver. He is another small politician that you somehow prop up.

Piers, Thank you for not just sitting silently when Harvey Weinstein made his ridiculous ,insulting, outrageous comparison to elevate Obama to Mandela. President Obama is our pop culture distilled. Obama is superficial style ,callow, selfish, inexperienced, fluid character, self serving, lacking honesty or integrity, the media, autotuned and teleprompted image. Obama the empty suit in the now vindicated empty chair tragic comedic skit. USA got what we voted for and now we are getting what we asked for and deserve.

    Mr. Morgan,
As a Canadian and yes a Toronto Taxpayer I am as puzzled about the fascination of our bigger than life Mayor Rob Ford who I voted in 2010 to fight corruption and the government union hooligans and elitists who have turned their back on taxpayers like me. I am equally puzzled as you why you would interview Sara Thomson who frankly has proven to be an annoyance to your citizens and has developed her own contraversy hiring unpaid interns that its considered exploitation according to Our Ontario Labour laws.. This is a woman who neither admired nor respected by majority of our citizens except for the fact that her husband is married to the Rich Billionaire Thomson Reuters Media Family. This is one show I will definitely avoid....She is an arrogant pompous ass whose opinion means nothing to Toronto residents..
