As the head-scratching antics and highlight-reel quotes of Rob Ford continue to fascinate much of North America, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed Sarah Thomson, a woman all too familiar with the Toronto mayor, having run against him for the office in 2010.
"I feel sorry for him. I think he's really got an illness, and he's got to deal with it. And he's hurting Toronto," Thomson told Piers Morgan. "I think people are saying, 'Look it, is there a crack problem, is there a gang problem in Toronto?' And they're fearing that."
Upon scheduling Thomson to appear on his program, Morgan noted that he had received a significant amount of reaction, in particular from people suggesting his guest was an ambitious woman, often pushing a personal agenda. On Monday Thomson pledged her loyalty to Toronto, denying any rumors of self-importance:
"It's all about Toronto. And I think we have to start thinking about Toronto. I've always been about how we put Toronto on the map, how we make Toronto a world class city. Rob is about Rob," she said. "Rob has a lot of problems, and he has to get them fixed."
